La Sombra del Pasado #54 5-1-15 MAY DAY! MAY DAY! THE TRUTH IS OUT!! (or part of it!)

Good evening, Sombra Patio Peeps!  Let’s stop in and see what the fine denizens of Santa Lucia are up to this evening, shall we?  We have a little overlap of Aldonza letting slip that something’s rotten, er burned, in the D.F.  Roberta’s apartment was destroyed by fire!

We interrupt this family discussion to join Cande’s screech fest with Cris, already in progress.   Please see Diva’s wonderful description from yesterday, #53.  Cande stomps out of Cris’s room.  Has anyone else noticed how dark Cris’s room is?  I don’t think it’s just the dark wood and deep blue paint job.  Candela is constantly darkening that poor boy’s door and this is not the last time she’s going to do it today, as we shall see!

It is a bright and lovely morning!  Pru has invited Mari for sundaes, ice coffee or such.  Pru is worried about Vale:  she’s been so emotional since the breakup with Cris.   Mari tries to plead ignorance but finally confesses that Vale came to her house nearly hysterical and looking for Lardo.  Mari tells Pru that Vale and Lardo are “half way” going together and Vale was upset because Aldonza saw her and Lardo kissing and Vale’s afraid Aldonza will tell Cristobal!  Pru is impactada!

Let’s stop back in and see what’s happening at Las Animas.  As Cris descends the stairs he tells Sev that he’s not going on the business trip.  Something important came up and that’s that.  Cris stands eye to eye with Sev and tells him that he can’t make this trip, but next time he won’t fail him.  Sev asks if this “something important” has anything to do with Aldonza.  Cris looks him squarely in the eyes and answers yes, it has everything to do with her.  Sev tries to shame him:  Don’t tell me you’re going to keep begging this girl?  Yes, Cris is going to beg, to plead and insist until she returns to him.  Next, Sev tries to assassinate Aldonza’s character by asking if he’s going to go through all this to pursue a girl who has such vast experience with men.  Cris demands that Sev respect Aldonza!  Now, it’s time for Sev to turn up the decibels and play the angry, indignant Patriarch Card.  How dare Cris disrespect HIM and renege on his promise to be his business associate only to tell him a few days later to go to the devil all for a woman who only wants. . . .   Cris matches him in anger and decibels and cuts him off:  Nothing of what Sev is saying is going to change what he feels for her.  Sev pulls out his trump card:  Cris will assume his place in the business or he can say goodbye to it forever . . .Cris tells Sev he can do with the hacienda and the business whatever he pleases!*  He can give it to Abelardo if he wants to since he loves him so much; “he’ll gladly accept it since he’s your flunky and will do whatever you want him to! “  Sev visibly slumps.   Cris trots up the stairs past Cande who was watching and asks what happened.  Sev tells her that her beloved son is forging, or cooking up something with that maldita Aldonza, and it’s nothing good!

It’s dinner time at Joaquin’s.  What transpires isn’t good for our, or their digestion.  I’d wondered in the comments today how Flavia would react when she found out Joaquin had met a lawyer at the Alcocer place to help them with their legal land problems.  Why did I wonder?  She bitches him out and leaves the table in a huff.  The impossibly cute little boy playing Raimundito doesn’t know how to display any emotion other than the unbridled joy of being a five year old so he beams through his dimples.  The cutie!

Irma and Lola end the work day, night has fallen.  Lola is still sad, her usual spark subdued.  As soon as Irma leaves Sev springs from the darkness.  He tells Lola they need to have a chat.  Lola thinks that chat should be with Candela.  To her credit she doesn’t show the least bit intimidation when he warns her not to open her mouth to anyone.  She tells him he can do what he wishes with his life; she doesn’t have any low down dirty dog in THIS fight (okay, that sentiment is somewhat enhanced).  Predictably he threatens that her Abuelos will pay the consequences if she talks.  Lola dismisses his threats as he has no idea how many times she’s been similarly threatened by Candela!  Sev grabs her arm and tells her the difference between him and his wife is that he follows through with HIS threats.  “Estamos?”  Lola’s eyes finally glint with the fear that feeds this devil’s soul.  She nods her understanding.

We catch up with Pru and Vale.  Pru tells Vale what Mari said about her kind of going with Lardo.  Pru asks how could she do such a thing.  Vale reminds Pru it was HER idea!  Well, Cande didn’t like the idea.  Oh, poor Vale is so flustered, she flops on the bed in tears.  Pru pulls her up into her arms and coos to her saying she hopes Vale didn’t go too far with Lardo.  Vale springs away with indignation and asks Pru if she thinks she’s easy like Aldonza or her Mother!  Of course not! Pru answers.  Pru confirms that Aldonza knows and suggests that Vale tell Cris before Aldonza can get to him, tell him everything; tell her version, that she was desperate and she should turn on the waterworks like she did just now cause she knows she can turn her tears on and off anytime she wishes!  Wonk!  Wonk!

Aldonza and Adelina are about to bid Padre J goodnight when Aldonza’s cell phone rings.  Aldonza walks away, smiling sweetly.  Adelina and PJ’s ears are virtually extended on stalks as they fall silent and listen to her side of the conversation.  It’s Cris!  Awww, he wants to tell her he loves her, he misses her and can’t wait to see her tomorrow:  he has all the papers ready.  Uh oh!  Candela flies into Cris’s room on her broom to practice another round of Bitchcraft on him!  She disconnects the phone!

“This is my house,  and you aren’t going to use my phone to talk to that shameless wench!  And you’re not going to, you CAN'T have anything with daughter of Roberta Lozada!”  Cris demands to know once and for all what she has against Aldonza’s Mother!   You really want to know?   “Roberta Lozada destroyed my life!  Because of her my marriage is the worst hell imaginable!  She stole my husband!   The mother of your beloved Aldonza was your Father’s lover.”   Cris is stricken silent!

Well, it’s time for Joaquin to head to the hospital for his overnight mission of mercy with Padre J.  I’ll spare us all:  Flavia doesn’t see it this way; this is just an excuse to get near that “old slut” Adelina!  They have a yelling match!  He has had it up to HERE with her pissing and moaning and suspicions EVERY DAY!  If she trusts him so little she can just leave because she’s turned his life into a hell but when she goes, she’s leaving little Ray with him!  No way is she going to leave her child to be raised by that witch!  Joaquin has finally had enough and storms out!

Let’s see how the “Why I hate Aldonza talk” is going.  Cande is sobbing:  There!  He wanted to know the truth!  Now he knows!  Cris is quietly empathic.  He asks when this happened.  She doesn’t know when it started but she found out a few months after he was born and she and his Father started to live like two strangers in hell!  (The opposite of Strangers in the Night.)  Cris asks if Cande is not taking this resentment to extremes.  Cande says she has never betrayed Sev and he doesn’t know how it feels to give yourself to someone who stabs you in the back!  Cris was too young to understand but now it’s time he knows why she cannot see him with the daughter of the woman who broke her marriage into bits!  Cris evenly tells Cande that Aldonza is not responsible for what her Mother did.  Oh, but didn’t Cris tell her that Aldonza hates Sev and this hate has come to engulf Cris as well?  That’s exactly what has happened to her: her hatred for Roberta Lozada is so great it has spread to her Daughter!  With that, Cande flies back out of Cris’s bedroom leaving him looking pained and slightly stunned.

Adelina and Aldonza leave the hospital just as Lola arrives to see Padre.  Lola is still subdued, surely still shaken by the embarrassing shock of Sev snogging her former “friend”, Simoneta and then being threatened by Sev.  She decides not to go in and instead sends regards from herself and Doña Irma.  Lola will catch a ride with Aldonza and Adelina. Joaquin arrives for his nightly stay with Padre J.  What’s significant in this little interchange is Joaquin and Adelina grinning at each other before the obligatory cheek kiss.   They share one in on his arrival and one as he leaves.   Adelina doesn’t seem to want to leave but finally does and Joaquin looks after her with a definite sparkle in his eye!  Oh, Lord!

In the kitchen at Las Animas, Dom & Mel talk about Lola’s new beau.  Dom warns Mel that Lola is just interested in Pato to make Eman jealous.  Well, they’re young and they have to learn from their own mistakes.  Besides, Lola could end up really caring for this Pato.  You never know with love, you try to play with love and love ends up playing with you!  They decide now is their chance to show Lola that they trust her.  They’re going to give her permission to be Pato’s novia and give them space.  BUT, because of the law suit and dust up with Cris and Sev, he can’t come into the house.

I’m mighty proud of Cris.  He’s just strutting all over Las Animas with his brand new, refurbished spine!  Cris goes to Sev’s office and proclaims that his Mom told him EVERYthing.  Everything?  Yes, why he hates Roberta Lozada and Aldonza.  Cris says Cande told him that he and Roberta Lozada were lovers.  Sev wants to know is that all she told him.  Cris is incredulous!  Sev wants more?  Sev asks Cris, now that he knows, what is he going to do?   Cris wants to know why he attacks Roberta so when he’s just as responsible as she for their affair.  Sev actually tries to tell Cris that Roberta lured him. . .Cris cuts him off!  He can’t shift responsibility off on Roberta and furthermore, just like he told his Mom, Aldonza is not the least bit at fault for any of this and neither is he and it is not fair that THEY should have to pay for what their parents did!  Cris strides out!

Over at the hospital Joaquin is not very good company for Padre J.  He keeps calling home!  Joaquin tells Padre of the big blowout they had and her incessant jealousy of Adelina.  Flavia didn’t even want him to come to the hospital and she looks for any excuse to fight.  Padre counsels him to take things calmly and he tells Joaquin of his conversation with Flavia several weeks ago.   Flavia wanted Padre to tell Adelina that Joaquin was married; he declined to do that or to tell Joaquin at the time.   Padre says he encouraged her to trust Joaquin and that the only one who would end the marriage would be her with her jealousy and lack of trust in her husband.   “When she sees you are faithful to her, things will get better.”  Unh hunh.  Padre, you need to tell Joaquin to stop with the sparkly goo goo eyes on Adelina.

When Lola arrives home, Dom and Mel tell her about Pato’s visit to ask if he could be her novio.  Dom pledges that even if she has to bite her tongue, she won’t meddle and Mel cautions her not to hurt Pato.  They like that he came to ask them for her hand in noviazgo. (Grammar prolly screwed here).  They give their permission for her to be his novia.  Group hug and kisses!  They are happy to see her happy again and to feel her closeness to them once more!

Pato and Sylvia are out on the pueblo this pleasant night when Eman approaches.  Pato and Eman square off.  Pato tells Eman he got permission to court Lola from her Abuelos.  Don’t you dare hurt her, Eman warns or Pato will have to deal with him!  Pato counters that Eman is the only one who has hurt her and if he cares for her so much but can’t make her happy, he should leave her to be happy with someone else.  Eman stares Pato down for a moment then smoothly and suddenly withdraws.  Sylvia asks if that’s his rival.  Hmmmm, he’s guapo, she observes and then playfully tells Pato that HE is cuter than Eman!  (I beg to differ.)

Tomas’s Father gives him Pru’s keys and tells him to take her car to her and to tell her there is no charge since there wasn't anything wrong with the car!  (Thanks, Vivi!  Totally missed this part!)

Sylvia and Pato are eating when he takes a call from Lola.  Lola tells him she knows that he saw her abuelos today and that he made a good impression.  She likes he asked for her hand in courting and thought it was a great idea.  Pato tells her it was her friend, Mari’s idea.  Lola’s smile freezes  and then fades as she realizes she’s been played!

Pru and Hum are eating supper when Tomas shows up with the bill for the car repair and the keys.  Apparently the bill is quite hefty.  Tomas, in a bald faced double entendre explains the exorbitant repair bill and flirts with Pru at the same time as he refers to the “parts” that were replaced on his “neglected” and “damaged” car that should now be good as new.   Pru acknowledges this hidden meaning with a sly and subtle smile.   Hum goes to get his checkbook and Tomas drags Pru out of the house.  A few moments later Hum comes out with the check, startling Pru and Tomas.  Hum gives Tomas the check and almost has to drag Pru back into the house.  Brazen strumpet!

Lardo has been winning at poker.  He has won a wad of cash and goes to the bar to order a bottle for the table.  Eman is at the bar watering his latest seed of grief over Lola.  He and Eman face each other for the first time since Lardo’s assault.  They give each other the stink eye.  Lardo knows how to get Eman’s goat.  I wish he could just ignore the shit head.  Lardo tells him he knows he’s going with his sister which is OK with him if she likes a common laborer. . .  They yell in each other’s faces.  Eman looks pissed and Lardo has that smirk I want somebody to stuff down his throat!  They part with a mutual “agreement” not to mess with each other.  Lardo feigns concern about Eman’s demeanor and to show he’s a good sport asks the bartender to give Eman a drink on him.  Lardo goes back to the suckers. . .uh friends at the poker table and Eman looks after him with death ray vision.

Tomas checks online.  The candy house has sold for a nice sum!  He’s stoked!  Tomas runs home to get the candy house.  It’s gone!  He tears the closet apart looking for it and finally calls his Momma in distress!  There’s a frantic and rapid-fire back and forth during which Tomas’s Mom lets him feel a false relief that she did not throw the candy house away and then immediately bursts his bubble by telling him she donated it to the Church to be sold in a raffle to raise money for the poor.  She’d warned him if he didn’t clean his closet, SHE would do it and she wasn’t going to take responsibility for whatever she found.  Next time she tells him to clean his closet, maybe he’ll do it!  Cut to the Church where Lulu puts a number on the candy house and puts in in an armoire with other items for the raffle.  She beams that Padre J will be happy to see all the fine items they have!

In as peaceful a scene as we’ve found them,  Aldonza and Adelina have finished dinner.  They are discussing how they will pay for Padre’s hospital bill (surely he must have some money) and for the damages on the apartment.  There is a knock on door.  Camilo (the guard)  says the young man who was there before is back.  It’s Cris!  He can enter when he wishes, Aldonza smiles.   They greet each other with a kiss.  Cris says good evening to Adelina and asks her to stay as she can clarify and confirm some things.   Cris gets right to the point:  He knows what the fight is between their families.  It seems that years ago, her Mother and his Father had a relationship at a time when they both were married. Cris asks Adelina if he’s right as Aldonza turns her shocked eyes toward her Aunt.  Adelina’s eyes well with guilty tears.  Aldonza asks if it’s true and did Adelina know that Cristobal’s Father and her Mother were lovers!  Adelina is silent but her expression speaks volumes.

Well, no peaceful scenes over at the Mendoza’s.  Sev rips into Cande for telling Cris about the affair with Roberta.  With what head was she thinking when she told him that!?  (Uh, Sev, you should’ve directed that question at yourself twenty years ago.)  Now Cris will now think the worse of him!  What has she gained with this revelation!?  Cande maintains she HAD to do it so he would know once and for all why she hates that woman and why she opposes his relationship with Aldonza!  Sev thinks Cande is naïve if she thinks that’s going to keep Cris away.  Cande thinks that now Cris is going to think twice before trying to have a relationship with Aldonza!   Sev can’t believe it:  not only is Cande naïve, she’s stupid!  This isn’t going to mean a damned thing:  Roberta is DEAD and this affair was over twenty years ago!  Cande has opened a Pandora’s box and things are going to get worse!   Between what she just told Cris and what that maldita cura knows, this story is not going to end well for either of them!  Well, Cande thinks he’d better get ready to confront whatever comes because SHE has been for some time!  Sev says they’ll see if she is as prepared as she thinks and of what she’s made because “your stupidity will cost both of us both dearly!”

Ah, Dios mio!  Dessert has turned bitter at the Alcocer house.  Aldonza demands of Adelina, “Answer me! Did you know?  Did you know?”   Yes, Adelina finally answers tearfully, hanging her head.   “You and I have to have a serious talk.  I can’t believe you did this to me.”  Aldonza turns her back on Adelina and suggests she and Cris go outside where they can talk freely.  “Let’s go outside.  I want to be the only one who hears whatever you have to tell me.  We can’t trust anybody."  Adelina hangs her head in hurt and defeat.   Cris throws Adelina a parting glare as Aldonza leads him by the hand out of the house.

Cris never imagined such a thing and Aldonza is surprised as well.  She knows Sev wasn’t the only man in her Mother’s life but she thinks this is only half the truth.  Cris asks what she means.  Aldonza said they didn’t act like lovers:  her Mother hated his Dad with all her heart.  She told Aldonza before she died that Sev destroyed her life and she can’t understand why.  She thinks they could not have loved each other the way THEY do!   Cris wisely surmises that perhaps her Mom had fallen in love with him and expected more from the relationship.  Well, sometimes when things end badly between lovers, they end up hating each other until death.  Aldonza thinks that some pieces of the puzzle are missing.  Cris says maybe, but they will never arrive at the truth with just their conjecture:  they have to find someone who can tell them the truth.  Sadly, she observes, Cris’s Father will never tell them the truth and her Mother can’t.

“Aldonza, I told you this because I thought you had to know.  Look me in the eye and tell me.  Does this change the decision we have made to marry?”

“No.  One has nothing to do with the other.”

Gracias!  Cris lightly sighs with relief and goes in for a kiss.  Aldonza chuckles and warns Cris that her Tia will see them.  Let her look!  He wants the whole world to know!  They are not going to hide anymore, he wants the whole world to know he loves her!  And she loves him!  Mijares serenades them as they go in to savor a long, lingering kiss.  Aaaaaaaaah!

*  One more time with Hal Ketchum.  For when Cris was telling Sev where to stuff his hacienda, listen to the lyrics in   “I Know Where Love Lives”

Okay Peeps, here is part of it. I know y'all want to talk. Lemme sling some hash and I'll get back with you!

:D

Lila, what a great partial recap, thank you. I loved the "Bitchcraft". I may have to needlepoint a pillow with that new word!

The wheels are starting to come off Sev's little red wagon.

Rosemary Primera

Thanks, Lila! I checked the blog before going to be to see if the conversation had started yet. I'm pretty pooped, but I'll be back in the morning to read and really digest.

I was pretty happy to see the almost non-reactive from Cris.

So that should be "before going to bed."

Thanks for posting Lila. I haven't read this yet, but just want to say, "Boy have we been over thinking this". We were all saying that Cande was going to pull the Aldonza is Sev's child garbage and all she told him was they had an affair. Pheww. Big deal, right?

Okay, here comes another part!

Lila---A great part 1.

This line really got to me--Lola's
eyes finally glint with fear that
feeds this devil's soul. Perfect but also scary. Devils soul---so right.
the gringo

Dr. Brave???? QTH was that?

Stupid spammers! Blogger's "spam filter" leaves a lot to be desired when it lets crap like that through no problem and legit comments just get sucked into the abyss. *sigh* Anyway...

Gracias Lila, I am enjoying what's up so far :) I'll be back in the morning for more hash!

Here comes the last part Amigos!

Thank you for removing that Dr. brave thing. That was CREEPY

I'm waiting for Candela to reveal more dirty details!

Now that she's revealed the affair between Severiano & the late Roberta, it's going to be Pandora's Box!

Mornin' Peeps! Did a little tweaking! It's Saturday, errand day and, if the weather permits, a lot of us have spring clean up and such to do. Oh yeah. It's a major sleep in day, too! Give yourself a break from these and other chores and let's have at Friday's episode!

Rosemary Primera, yes! Thank you! The wheels ARE starting to come off Sev's little (devil) red wagon! The beast!

Thank you early birds, Sara, Gringo, and Diva! Need some breakfast. See y'all later!

Please disregard the references to Dr. Brave. There was an ugly SPAM that was removed. Seems I can't remove my comments.

Thanks Lila for another great recap. I have wondered if Sev was Aldonza's father, but if so I am sure Cande would have spit that out as well. I am afraid so many people are going to get hurt with all the manipulation of emotions. Pru, be careful, Eman look out this can't end well for you. Lola, you have a target on your back now. Cande watch out as well. Sev is on a roll.

Lila- You never disappoint. I just watched the episode over breakfast and had your recap as a post-breakfast treat. Thanks, amiga.

Bitchcraft. LOL! Inspired and so perfect!

So many things going on this episode. My goodness. It almost felt like two episodes in one, although I know it wasn't.

Loved Cris standing up to both Cande and Sever. Sever is right that it was stupid of Cande to believe that telling Cris that he and Roberta were lovers would make him stay away from Aldonza. It's just opened the Pandora's Box, just like he said, because now Cris and especially Aldonza will start poking and prodding and trying to get more answers.

But Sever is also stupid and doesn't understand Cris if he thinks that 1) calling Aldonza a slut, and 2) threatening to not pass on the business to him, is going to make Cris change his mind about Aldonza.

I was proud of Lola standing up to Sever, but then she saw his REAL face-- the one he reserves only for his enemies and his lovers, and she was justifiably spooked. Let's hope Sever leaves things there. I really don't think Lola ever planned on telling anyone what she saw anyway.

As for her finding out that it was Mari who recommended that Pato speak to her abuelos, she shouldn't be upset. She should go thank Mary. Sure, Mari just wants Lola completely out of E-man's life, but that's no different than what Lola herself claims she wants.

I am really starting to worry about E-man. He was looking more and more like Roberta this episode. Easily angered and ready to fight. Drinking alone in the cantina and mulling over his heartache. Not good.

The Candy House is on the move again! LOL! Too bad, so sad, Tomas.

I felt even less bad for him since he had just swindled a LOT of money out of Humberto. When he left with the car keys, his father told him he wasn't charging Pru anything since there wasn't anything wrong with the car. By the time he arrived at the doc's house, he had produced some bogus bill-- all going to his pockets.

I did enjoy all the double entendres, including when Tomas says he'll take Pru outside and give "it" to her, which made Pru do a double take. Can't wait for her to get busted.

Clearly, this episode made me chatty...

I enjoyed seeing Al and Cris talking things out together and trying to hash out how they will figure out the rest of the truth about their parents. It was nice to see that.

I hated, however, seeing poor Adelina taking the brunt of the blame for Roberta's sins. Aldonza needs to understand that it isn't really Adelina's place to tell her Roberta's secrets. And there is SO much more that poor Adelina knows, which I'm sure she'll also get in trouble for not revealing sooner.

I enjoyed Adelina and Joaquin's googly eyes, but this can't end well with Flavia very much a part of Joaquin's life, and practicing her Bitchcraft every moment. That happy little Ray, however, is a treat to see, every time. He was really enjoying that rice and beans. :)

Hey, Good Morning and thank you Emeraldrose (LOVE your name!). I can go get rid of Dr. Brave -- jerk!

Agree with all your warnings, Emeraldrose except for Pru! Hum is not a Saint of my devotion (ISBIS) but she is disrespecting Hum in a way that is just outrageous. She's done everything except screw him in their marital bed, BUT she did let him into their bedroom and he lay on their bed with his shoes on. Did you see that condescending pat on the arm Tomas gave Hum when he came in Hum's house. I want Pru to be publicly shamed for her infidelity and to get the equivalent, no WORSE, than the stoning she gave Aldonza! UUUUuuffff!

Hey, Vivi! Thank you, girl! You know, it's funny how NONE of Cande's plans have worked out! NONE of them! She is absolutely clueless on how to stop Cris because she actually said with her own mouth that her hatred for Roberta was so GREAT that it also engulfed Aldonza. Well, Cris is operating on a GREAT LOVE so mommy dearest will NEVER understand nor be able to thwart them. So there!

And yes! They absolute are going to start investigating to get to the whole truth! Sev, Cande, Adelina have ALL done nothing but piqued these kids interest in finding out what is casting la sombra del pasado!

Agree, Sever doesn't understand love either! Love Cris telling him where he could stick his hacienda and ranch!

Yes, Vivi, that is perfect! Lola saw his REAL face-- the one he reserves only for his enemies and his lovers Isn't that so creepily real, that his lovers and enemies get the same persona! Lola was rightly freaked: she'd never seen him like that. I'm so glad he stopped short of sexual leering!

ITA with you about Lola. I was shocked as what Mari told Pato was absolutely true and it paid off. It's also going to get Lola the space she needs to try to grow up. We know Mari's intentions were rotten but that's not Lola's problem.

Yes, poor Eman is starting to look soulfully tragic. That's why I could just beat Lola's ass!

WOW! Thanks, again, Vivi, for another vital plot point! I've got to add that! I know you're not looking for credit but this is huge!

Thanks, amiga!!

:D

Well, one of Cande's plans did work, for a while. Sending Vale to Spain after Cris was dumped and ditched by Aldonza worked brilliantly...until they and Aldonza came back to SL. Poor Cris has been mopey and lacking his spark ever since, until he dumped Val and Aldonza finally gave him another chance. Now, he's back to the confident happy guy we first met. But I suppose Cande would prefer he be depressed and unhappy, than happy with Al.

"He’s just strutting all over Las Animas with his brand new, refurbished spine!

"...sparkly goo goo eyes..."

"I wish he could just ignore the shithead."

Are great lines and I'm not even done reading!

Vivi in D.C., I also feel chatty today. Have too much yard work facing me to want to get to it. But must get moving.

Lila, agree, Pru's behavior is outrageous. I somehow feel sorry for women who are so desperate that they willing risk everything that they have. I had a professor years ago that referred to the "Cream of the crop, the bottom of the barrel" Not the Pru is the cream of the crop. but appears to have it all. Successful (albeit slimmy husband) money, status in the community. "lovely" daughter, nice home et al. Willing to risk it all for a little extra marital snogging. Seems that a few bottoms have made connections, in more ways than one.

Chat on, Vivi!, chat on! It WAS good to see Cris and Al trying to talk things out. This is why I watch these derned things, besides the Spanish: to see a loving couple face the baddies, do a little smooching, not spend 148 episodes hating each other and 2 making out! Sheesh!

I could just quote the whole second paragraph of your comment at 10:58! It's NOT fair for Adelina to be shamed and scolded for Roberta's sins! She gave her whole life up to protect Aldonza from Roberta's stupid, lust-filled "decisions!" I didn't like that either!

Yah, little Ray is being little Ray. Joaquin later had to just say little Ray was upset, that little darlin' cannot act, bless his heart, he was just being his sweet self!

Another good point: Now, he's back to the confident happy guy we first met. But I suppose Cande would prefer he be depressed and unhappy, than happy with Al.

Please, PLEASE let us enjoy Cris and Donnie together. Throw everything at them, let it roll off their backs and bind them together just as this "big, nasty affair" reveal did! They are going to need this for when the REAL big, nasty, secret comes out!

Sara! Daaaarling! Hey, Girl! Come on back when you're done! Thank you!

Emeraldrose, you speak truth. They're playing this dalliance with Tomas lightly but it is going to absolutely devastate Hum. . . .unless Hum has her number in a way that he has not revealed to us. Valeria is definitely her daughter!

Just finished reading. There's no way I am going to be able to keep up with comments this weekend. LOL.

I am glad that my prediction about the possible incest was not correct. I love that Cris and Aldonza are, for the most part, being level headed about this.

Aldonza was unfair to Adelina thought.

Most importantly-the casa de caramelos has made another disappearing appearance. Glad my favorite character has not been forgotten.

Hey, Sara! I haven't seen any of the novelas where they try to trick the main lovers into thinking their siblings! Sounds decidedly unpleasant and frustrating! Yuck!

Sara, I thought about capitalizing The Candy House. Cute storyline! So glad Tomas didn't profit from it, the slug!

Now.....if we could just have the cute little canaries check in!

:D

Lila...Thanks so much for that snappy recap. I especially enjoyed ..bitchcraft.'' I have to write that one down. ''Oh , it's bitchcraft..wicked bitchcraft...ohhh'

Well, I would Love to hang out on the patio and chat, but there is laundry and cleaning to do before hub and I meet friends for dinner. Hope that everyone has a good, restorative weekend. It looks like we will finally hit 80 this weekend...yay. love, Susanlynn, looking for her spring clothing

*they're siblings

Hey, Susanlynn! Thank you and I need to get up off my tail and go do some of MY chores! Hmmmm, noon sounds good! Thanks for stopping by and I hope you make it back in before the weekend is out!

Lila- I remember the first scene we saw Little Ray in, when it started raining and instead of staying in character he just started squeezing with glee that "it's raining!" It's turned out to be quite perfect. Just what a little kid his age would do, instead of precociously being all up in the adults' business. Little kids live in their own world like that. So despite the telenovela being filmed around him, the little actor playing Ray is just happy to be eating some yummy rice and beans, or hanging out in the rain, and he wants to tell Jaoquin about it.

Squealing not squeezing with glee.

That's so true, Vivi, that was a cute scene in the rain and it did work. Little Ray looks like he can put away some groceries, too! Gordito precioso!

;D

Lila, my thanks for this great recap! I missed a big chunk out of the middle, was so happy to read your detailed recap first thing this morning. And I agree, now that we've had a Candy-House sighting, we need the canaries to check in.

Cande is such an insane harpy, Don't know how Chris sits so politely and listens to all that venom...but he gets points for courtesy to his parents, even while standing up to them.

Errands call, but I look forward to checking in with the patio later.

Wow, great recap Lila! Loved:

The impossibly cute little boy playing Raimundito doesn’t know how to display any emotion other than the unbridled joy of being a five year old so he beams through his dimples. ITA, he's so freaking cute! It's really nice to see a little kid in a TN just being a little kid.

Lola’s eyes finally glint with the fear that feeds this devil’s soul.

Padre, you need to tell Joaquin to stop with the sparkly goo goo eyes on Adelina.
Um, yes. Flavia beinga shrew, but she has good reason to be. Well, she hasn't seen the good reasons, but there are good reasons and her instincts are on point. PJ needs to actually ask Joaquin what his feelings are, Joaquin needs to own up to them and Flavia needs to take a chill pill and then calmly talk to him about this without becoming a raging harpy.

He’s just strutting all over Las Animas with his brand new, refurbished spine! Cris - MWAH! We've missed you! I loved that he kept a cool head at his mom's revelation and reacted so reasonably. Love that he told his mom that he gets it, but it's been 20 years and he and Aldie have nothing to do with this. Love wouldn't let Sev even try pull the whining "she seduced me!" card. LOVE that he told Aldie right away and LOVE that they're trying to figure it out together.

Don't love that Aldie scolded Adelina like she's the mom (figure) and Adelina's a bad child. I know it won't happen because we're only like a third of the way through the TN, but I wish on Monday Adelina would tell Aldonza all that she knows: about Ray's death, about Rob's baby. But I suppose that's about as reasonable as expecting Aldie to tell Cris why SHE hates his father.

Gracias again, Lila! Great recap :D

I feel bad for Adelina. It's like she gets her share of blame for not telling PLUS Roberta's since Roberta isn't around. And it feels like the kids are being harder on her than on Cande or Sev, but I guess they expected more from her.

Just one more random thought. Suppose when Pru's baby was born, it was.....a BOY. Pru is SO disappointed. She wanted a daughter. She shows little interest in the baby. Then Hum, trying to keep his wife happy, brings home a baby girl. Pru is delighted, and Hum is the only one that shows even the slightest interest in the boy. I have noticed he has almost no concern about Val and her crisis. That would make Val Aldonza's half sister.

I am always looking for the most improbable situations here. And the story line always refers to Roberta's baby being a girl.

I WILL GET GOING NOW. After another coffee.

Emeraldrose, that would also make Cris and Val siblings, and they've already had sex, MULTIPLE times.

Vivi, "they've already had sex, MULTIPLE times." And when Pru was asking if she'd gone "too far" with Lardo, I was thinking "Come on, they know she was practically living with Cris in Spain...do they really think they had separate bedrooms? What the hell is 'too far'...they registered for fine china?"

Kat- Back when she went to Spain, Hum and Pru even had a conversation about it, and Hum raised an eyebrow and made it perfectly clear he knew Val and Cris were getting it on in Spain.

I read the recap this morning and it was wonderful. I loved your description of the Flavia/Joaquin scene at the kitchen table and Raimundo being such a cute happy boy. I was thinking the same thing as they argued their usual argument right in front of him. I wonder if they prepped the little actor to not take their words seriously and that they are pretending to be mad at each other.

Can I just say "Called It' about what Sev would do to Lola?

I love stories that have the 'upper class' characters accuse the 'lower class' characters of loose morals while the opposite is going on. I'm referring to the Val/Pru conversation. This was a constant theme in Que Pobres Tan Rico.

Poor Joaquin. Who wants to be constantly accused of something you didn't do? Padre's advise was pathetic. He's been showing Flavia that he's faithful and trustworthy and it's gotten him nowhere. I wouldn't want to stay in that relationship either.

Why do these mothers think they can just go into their child's room and take what isn't theirs and decide to get rid of it? First Pru and now Tomas's mother.

cathyx, I'm ok with Tomas' mom doing it since she'd already given him a warning and she was doing it in the process of cleaning his room.

As for Pru, since she has never treated Em like her child in any way, never does anything for him, treats him badly, and took it because she felt she deserved it for putting up with him, and then lied about it--she has no excuse.

Plus Tomas' mom doing that gave me a moment of delight in which I imagined that the Candy House was traveling around on its own.

5Ft, It's one thing doing something like what Tomas's mother did if he were a little child. But he is a grown man and you don't just take something of value from someone and get rid of it like that. But I will also say that all these adult children still living at home are expecting to be treated as grownups without the grownup responsibilities that go with it.

This whole I hate Aldonza because her mother had an affair with my husband thing is utterly ridiculous. She stayed married to the man who cheated on her, but she will despise an innocent person over it.

cathyx, "But I will also say that all these adult children still living at home are expecting to be treated as grownups without the grownup responsibilities that go with it." Word. All Tomas' mom seems to be asking of him is to keep his room clean and he can't even be bothered with that. My guess is that Irma doesn't even try to get Lardo to do anything at all and just avoids his room as much as possible--hence the stench!

Now that the Traveling Candy House is visiting PJ's will PJ recognize it?

Chore break!

Thanks J in O! Cris IS a good boy. While I was complaining about him being dazed and amazed, he was silently taking notes and today he passed the first test with flying colors!

Thank you Hellashelle! Yah, I have to admit Flavia's instincts are not wrong but her Momma should've instructed her in the art of using honey instead of vinegar all the time!

Yah, join me and Vivi at the Aldie needs to be more respectful to Adelina table! Totally NOT COOL Aldie! Hellashelle, I think Adelina has been given the cue to tell it all. It will fortify Aldonza for however the BIG TRUTH is finally revealed. She's got to be the one that does because Sev will surely spin it as Aldonza seduced him. If today was any indication, Cris will never believe it and if he did, it would be unforgivable!

Getting ahead of myself!

oh, you clever wordsmith, Lila.

Bitchcraft

Brazen strumpet!

When does Renato ride in on his Mustang and stake his claim to Aldonza?

So funny Val still thinks she'll marry Cris.

I feel bad for Flavia, her husband is disrespecting her, refusing payment, as they are about to lose property they bought as a family. His first priority should be his family & child unless the boy can eat dirt. I'm supposed to hate her because she bitches non stop but she is telling the uncomfortable truth. Joaquin does have the hots for Adelina, still.

Lola - don't look a gift horse in the mouth

Emmanuel - "Tired of Waiting for You" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2F_j9jm3WNQ

The Candy House - there was stuff growing in that closet

Adelina - wonder what he looks like naked

Aldonza - liar, guess now you'll tell me Santa Clause is just a fat man in red velour

Val - uh, does oral count

Severiano - save time, just tell those NOT on your shit list

Pru - he's got a life insurance policy

tofie, "The Candy House - there was stuff growing in that closet" It's funny 'cause it's true.

The whole Joaquin/Flavia thing is just a mess. She's being horrid and unpleasant for no good reason, and I suspect that the foreclosure is happening because she didn't tell him about the previous howevermany notices that showed up. Yeah, he's still got his crush, but having a crush and acting on it are two different things. If the situation were reversed, I'd be applauding Flavia for not letting her husband try to control her every move.

At the same time, I think there's a part of him that likes that she's acting this way because it gives him an out. Maybe one that he's wanted for a long time and has nothing at all to do with Adelina, but her being back in town gives him an extra push. He and Dominga have both said that this is just Flavia being Flavia, and maybe he was more content to put up with her constant jealous fits when there wasn't anyone around that he would rather be with.

Vivi....I am still not sure IF Chris is Sev's son. Not necessarily Padre J''s. Aside from Sev being a rotten SOB did he use the fact that Cande may have been carrying another mans child when they married as his excuse for playing around on her?

Still haven't made it out to do yard work. Trip to the market and the nursery for a trunk full of plants. Now have to get out and stick them in the ground.

Tofie - When does Renato ride in on his Mustang and stake his claim to Aldonza? haha, love it! Cris is the Principe (in) Azul (jeans) riding up on a white horse, but Renato's like "I'm fron the DF in 2015, so I'lll have to drive up in a white Mustang with a blue stripe." Love it!

Lila - I'm of a mind that when the BIG TRUTH comes out, it'll only be confirmed because of Sev himself. Cris will walk in on him trying it again or walk in on him threatening Aldonza with it again or both. But I will gladly join you and Vivi at the table where Aldonza acts like her aunt is her aunt and not a personal assistant.

Rosemary - those Bitchcraft pillows need to be on the Naughty Melon's inventory (/Etsy).

Ok, great discussion. Don't want to break the flow! Thanks again, Diva; and Cathyx

Cathyx, I will temper my indignation at Pru by remembering her little fling is adding more zing to her eventual downfall and will make her hypocrisy all the more glaring! I want the WHOLE of Santa Lucia to know about it!

Cathyx: This whole I hate Aldonza because her mother had an affair with my husband thing is utterly ridiculous. She stayed married to the man who cheated on her, but she will despise an innocent person over it. EXACTLY! AND will lust after and violate the despised and innocent person's Uncle on top of that!

Tofie! Thanks, Girl! After last nights goo goo eyes I think you are right about Flavia. I agree she shouldn't be hated but it doesn't help that she doesn't have any other speed besides Bitch Overdrive! I think once I saw her speak to him civily, lovingly. Oooo, Val's line. . .naughty!

Emeraldrose, You're a good one if you buy and plant the plants the same day. Me and hubby did about a quarter of the yard clean up and mowed the lawn and now I'm having a near death experience. . . .well, not really, just tired and ready to relax on the PAT - TEE - OOO!

Hellashelle I hope it works out like that! Since Al had to suffer that vile attack, I don't want the writers victimizing her again by allowing Sev to use it to spin and smear her with it!

Dang. I need to find something to eat!

Maybe it is Severiano that tells he was with Aldonza before Cris but never admit to a rape. You know, like she was begging him or that he just got in line like every other male able to breathe in Santa Lucia. Several times Severiano has dropped poison pills to Cris about Aldonza's lack of virtue. He did again last night.

Yes, he did, Tofie, and I fear the dog is going to name himself as one of those whose "sampled her favors." If he would actually do what he did to Aldonza, it's hard to put anything past him. But now that he is beginning to see that Cris is serious about Aldonza, even to turning his back on being the Rich, Alpha Male of Santa Lucia, Lord of all Las Animas, will he NOT reveal the rape. The only thing I can see that Sev cares about is Cris's love and what Cris thinks of him. Maybe, just maybe Sev will realize that knowing his own Father raped his beloved would kill Cris's love and respect for him and sever their relationship for ever! Maybe THAT will hold him back!?

Can anybody get a screenshot of that cheezy "Caja de Caramelos"? Looks like some jellybeans and gumdrops glued onto a gingerbread-style house, who would pay big bucks for that?

Hey...maybe that hand will come thru the bushes and leave it on the patio for us!

J in Oregon

Also on break. I have the luxury of living in my son's guest house. (Permanent guest). My daughter in law and I share a common vision of the yard. All five acres ( most of it woods) is our playground. She is a great help, with my little yard and garden. She is clearing space for a common patio, son is mowing, and I am fooling around being tired. Must get busy again, can't take advantage of a good thing.

Where we are now:
Aldonza has 3 lawyers on her case to get Sev off the land so she can farm it. Sev is going to pay off a judge to get him to side with Sev. Let's hope said judge is Silvia's uncle.

Aldonza owes a lot of money to fix her apartment and now to pay Padre's hospital bills. Will Renato float her a loan to keep her going?

It will take a while to get her farm up and growing and then longer to make money. At least a year in TN time, unless it's some huge money making crop. Only drugs meet that description and I'm sure it won't be that. Since Joaquin is in foreclose and he needs money, and he's sick and tired of Flavia's accusations, will he reconsider Aldonza's offer to be her business partner?

Will Cris and Aldonza marry very soon? Since Cris has quit the horse business, will he join Aldonza in her business?

cathyx, I'm pretty sure they've told us before that a year isn't long enough to start over with a crop--maybe after the fire?--so I'm not sure what they're trying to pull. Unless it's that a degree in agronomy teaches you super-secret ways to grow crops faster?

I do think Joaquin will decide to join Mis Planes Inc. to get some money to pay for the land he's having problems with and/or the bill for the lawyers and/or his divorce....

5FT, I know, having worked in horticulture a good bit of my life, that one year wouldn't produce any profit, in fact not even 3 years, but this is telenovelaland and things grow faster and profits are much larger in telenovelaland. So I was giving them an optimistic time line.

Maybe Flavia will meet an untimely death and put an end to Joaquin's misery.

cathyx, I'm just going to be disappointed if they made a point of telling us that a year wasn't long enough to save Roberta's bacon, but suddenly less than a year is enough for Aldonza. I just need a reasonable excuse.

When Flavia throws one of her tantrums, I remember the end of Rumplestiltskin (or at least the version I grew up with) and expect her to start stomping a hole in the floor that sucks her in.

want to thank all the insights that many commentators posted. I dont often finish reading recap and all the comments on this tn because they are so many, but today I did..

Rosemary Primeria, I believe you are perfectly right about the Candy House back with PJ. I cant wait to see his reaction when he sees it. I had strong feeling when I saw Lulu put it up and saying Padre is going to be so happy when he sees all the beautiful things that were donatedThank you Lila, for your time devoted on this awesome recap just for us! Just when I think it couldnt get better, it does. "Bitchcraft", ""Chris's new and improved spine" and "Lola's instilled fear that feeds the devil's soul." Wow!*!*!!

We shall see, well I droppped Iphone and it so hard to type, read over my scotch tapped broken glass.

Wow! Lots of great comments since I went out.

Wasn't part of Roberta's issue that she had taken out a huge mortgage on the land/house, had failed to pay it down, and didn't reveal the problem until the bank was ready to take the whole damn thing? That's not really the situation Aldonza's in, yet. It sounds liike if Aldonza fixes and sells the apartment, she'll have enough to pay off her neighbors. And there is enough currently in the account to pay the hospital bill and to start up her ag project. The problem is that's the last of her liquidity. That's what she was going to use the sale of the apartment for. So now she needs to find that money somewhere else. It could come in the form of an investment/investor, and she could find some candidates for that. I assume even Cris has his own bank account somewhere.

As for Joaquin, by all accounts his business has been doing fine. He said this particular piece of land has been problematic and that sounds more like legal/title trouble than it sounds like he and Flavia haven't been paying their mortgage or something.

Sorry, the top part of my last entrydidnt show up. Luckily I had copied it for safe meadure. Here is top part of my post: ......

Lila - thank you for the great recap! I especially enjoyed "bitchcraft" and the iPad auto correct wanted to change that to butch raft. LOL

It will be fun to see if Padre J has any sort of reaction to the candy house.

Thank you, Novella Lover! Even more so since you are typing on your impaired phone! Thank you so much! And yes, all your post did appear!

Hey, Doris! I tell ya, I have a physical slide out keyboard on my phone. . .I don't have patience for on-screen keyboards AND my fingers are too fat! Hee Hee! Thank you Doris and I hope you can hang out with us the rest of the weekend!

Lila- thank you for the kick ass recap, reading your recaps always makes me happy!

Okay so here are a few of my thoughts: Joaquin has been clear with Flavia, he was upfront about the fact that he loved Adelina and made it clear that he was devoted to their little family. Adelina was also clear when she said that she was not going after a married man and neither of them have done anything to justify Flavias behavior.

Tehehe Kat, your Rumpelstiltskin stomp visual so funny.

Bottom line, Flavia's crime is she is what's keeping Adelina & Joaquin apart, well not apart, just from hooking up and thought it a low blow for Joaquin to threaten to take the kid with him should she not shut her mouth. On what grounds? I haven't heard him complain to anyone she is mistreating her son.

Let's assume Cris and Aldonza do marry. Will he move in with her and does he really have some money stashed or not a pot to piss in if momma and daddy cut him off. Aldonza has done exactly what Adelina warned would happen and burned through the cash in what, a few months. I've given her way too much credit, mistaking not knowing her mis planes for actually having any. Right now, the only person with enough money to bail everybody out is Renato, assuming there were enough zero's on that statement. Aldonza is already indebted to the guy up to her eyeballs and unless he wants to burn through his inheritance too, with nothing to show for it, he needs to start making the decisions not her. But, why would Renato do that for Aldonza if she marries Cris and knows for real he has no romantic future with her? I find it odd, for a girl that was glued to the guy, told him everything, contemplated romance and put her future in his hands, she hasn't talked to him about this little deviation in mis planes. Come on Aldonza, how you gonna pay, it's ass or cash.

G'morning, Patio Peeps!

Thank you, Dear Eli!! And making you happy makes ME happy! :D

Tofie, I like your defense of Flavia, I know they're using her harshness to justify Joaquin going for Adelina in a more active way. I can't see Adelina falling though. I am disappointed in her grinnin' goo goo eye display. You can't have it both ways, push Joaquin away and then beckon him with your eyes and smile. Adelina asked Joaquin NOT to join Al in her business venture but will he change his mind now that he's super pissed with Flavia? And perhaps the "Ahm takin' mmah boy!" was something uttered in anger! Adelina is probably a REAL 40ish year old virgin. She has devoted her life to Roberta and Aldonza, I wish they'd bring somebody in to the story to be a real love interest for her, not somebody else's husband whom she never wanted when he was available!

Tofie, your analysis of Aldonza/Cris marriage and the impact on Renato's being a key part of her mis planes is ON POINT!

I find it odd, for a girl that was glued to the guy, told him everything, contemplated romance and put her future in his hands, she hasn't talked to him about this little deviation in mis planes. Come on Aldonza, how you gonna pay, it's ass or cash.

Dang, Girl! You have GOT to guest recap for us one day! It would sho' nuff be the BOMB DIGGETY!! Anyway, yah, if she and Cris are able to go ahead and marry this is a good heads up for Renato to keep his purse strings tight and not financially bail Al out and we all know he'd do it in a minute. I don't think he would drop her case if she marries Cris and although Cris claims that he won't get involved in the suit against Sev, I can't see him remaining uninvolved when RENATO is the Lawyer! Unless. . . .Renato let Sylvia take the lead in the case which I could see her happily doing to keep distance between Renato and Aldonza.

Ah sheesh! It's kind of a mess and I'm sure we'll get dragged through every possible permutation of these romantic entanglements right to the end!

Joaquin threatened to keep Ray because Flavia threatened to TAKE Ray and divorce Joaquin. Since HE'S not the one making trouble and threatening to end the marriage, I think he was perfectly within his rights to say it.

Tofie...exactly. I cannot see Renato coming to Al's financial rescue if she marries Chris. He is a nice guy but not that nice. That college education did not do much for Al's decision making skills. All she has managed to do was infuriate the devil and his spouse and make her inheritance disappear.I am getting very frustrated with her.

I've just never bought the ole, you are irrationally jealous of me and X so it's your fault I end up with X, excuse. This go round it's not even irrational. Joaquin, Adelina, Aldonza and Flavia all know Joaquin had/has a thing for Adelina. Yes, it's irrational Adelina would seduce anybody and Flavia should trust her husband to a point when he says she and their boy important but he needs to back that up with a little more tact and a lot more thought. He dug this hole because it took one chat for him to drop everything and would have continued had Adelina not put a stop to it. Yeah, he was gonna be a business partner with Aldonza but that would have really put his household finances in the ditch and a bullet in his marriage. Actually, Flavia should send Adelina a thank you card for telling her husband to go home.

Usually when one is irrationally jealous of the other, it's often because that jealous person is actually the one cheating on the other. Not saying that's the case here.

We don't know what life was like between them before Adelina came back, and that's a big factor. If they were happily married and had very little strife in their marriage, then I would agree that Flavia's jealousy has some foundation. But if she would fly off the handle every time Joaquin smiled at another woman, then Flavia has a big problem.

But if I put myself in Flavia's position and my husband was in Joaquin's position, WWID? (what would I do)

If it's the first case and they were happy together before Adelina came into town, there is nothing Joaquin can do to make Adelina leave, they are neighbors, and he's not working there, then Flavia has to get over it or end the marriage. What can Joaquin do that will make Flavia happy? He's done everything she's asked of him. If my husband had a thing for a neighbor but he never acted on it, but he runs into her now and again because we are neighbors, I might suggest we move away. But if that couldn't happen, then I have to get over my jealousy. It's not healthy to be angry all the time like Flavia is and it solves nothing. Joaquin is in a no win situation.

If Flavia has always been jealous of women that Joaquin has encountered, then Joaquin needs to leave the relationship.

So what can Joaquin do at this point to make Flavia happy?

Thanks, Vivi, I confess I skated oaver their argument because of a personal distaste for bitching, but I missed Flavia bringining up divorce first, and taking little Ray.

Tofie, again agree. I just feel they are headed for a Joaquin/Adelina hook up and I don't want that to happen: this will be confirming the town gossips even though we know he was "driven" into her arms AND I think the character deserves "a love of her own." https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qtkv0SCeXtY

I'm thinking about the first time we saw Flavia. Adelina and Joaquin had innocently run into each other. Flavia came up and was a complete shrew. So I assume she recognized Adelina and immediately reacted.

Little Ray's age makes me think that Flavia and Joaquin got together fairly soon after Adelina left. Flavia has probably always had a deep feeling that she was just the rebound and her hold on Joaco was tenuous at best.

This has probably already been said I guess. Sorry to be repetitive.

No apologies necessary, Sara. I'm glad you bring up that first meeting. Flavia WAS rude. So Jock (I just renamed him) must have done quite a bit of talk about Adelina in his honest disclosure about their old "love lives". Since she never returned his feelings and thus they never really have a relationship, it was kind of dumb for him to go on about her to the extent that she could recognize Adelina or knew her name! Jeesh! I'm sure he had that unmistakeable twinkle in his eye when he did so. Flavia must've thought, "that wench is here to take my man!"

That aside, Flavia seems like the type who would be jealous and suspicious of almost ANY woman unless she's mature and safely matronly, like Dominga.

I've never had the impression that it was a happy marriage.... Adelina is a non-issue for me. Flavia, IMO, has always been a shrew.

I imagine Adelina popping up was Flavia's worst nightmare in the flesh.

I do agree with ya'll that if Flavia is jealous of any interaction real or imagined between Joaquin and another female he should have run long before now.

I too hope Adelina could meet some other guy. It was weird for me before when he was crushing on her and weirder now. Why can't she stumble on her a Pato?

Wonder if Aldonza will ever know her aunt was also in love with her father and took his murder much harder than her mother did? Suffering in silence.

Wow. It had slipped my mind about Adelina's secret love for Ray! Ugh. Aldonza's head is going to explode when she starts finding out more and more about...

La Sombra del Pasado! (*dunh dunh dunh*)

Is it Monday yet?

Vivi, "I assume even Cris has his own bank account somewhere." I'm sure he does, but also sure it doesn't amount to much. He was offered a salary and turned it down, so he would be in the same boat as Aldonza and Renato--whatever they have, they have, but there's zero income right now.

tofie, "But, why would Renato do that for Aldonza if she marries Cris and knows for real he has no romantic future with her?" The only good reason is if Mis Planes are supposed to make them ALL rich, otherwise...as noble as it is to help someone because you think you're in love with them, going broke doing that is just silly.

Lila, "Adelina is probably a REAL 40ish year old virgin. [...]I wish they'd bring somebody in to the story to be a real love interest for her, not somebody else's husband whom she never wanted when he was available!" Word! There's that Jacinto guy over at the other ranch who popped up suddenly. He'd work for me. No history, no previous entanglements that we know of. I could go for that!

cathyx, "So what can Joaquin do at this point to make Flavia happy?" From what we've heard about Flavia from Joaquin and Dominga--move to somewhere where there are no other adult women around and no one who has been related to any Alcocer or Lozada for at least five generations. Because it was sketchy enough to think that he'd become business partners with Aldonza just to get at her aunt...now she's using taking care of Padre J as proof and furious that the lawyer he found is also friends with them. He's going to have to get very, very far away before she stops thinking that all roads lead to Adelina. And when it's not Adelina, it's going to be the next woman she thinks he spends too much time with...Oh, what's that, the business is doing so well you had to go to the bank three times this week to make deposits? Clearly you're shagging the teller! He can't win.

Just to be clear (I'm slow) - we still don't really know what Mis Planes are, right? We just know Aldonza wants the land and to make it profitable? Still no idea what the crop will be. Do I understand correctly?

Sara, I would say, no we don't know what Mis Planes are yet. We do know Aldonza wants the land. It would be logical for her to try to turn a profit, but it's also possible that any profits would only be incidental to the rest of the plan. Getting a crop in could be just another ploy like using the rental agreement to get Sev's animals evicted from their pasture. Maybe there's some provision in the agriculture laws that if she's in the middle of growing a crop that hasn't been harvested yet, or if it's a certain type of crop, it's in the state's best interest that she not be evicted until after the harvest? (And if something like is in play, could that have been further motivation for Sev to set the fire when he did?) Nope, still no idea what the crop will be.

Jacinto...hmmm.. .can't remember him but, yah, that's cool!

Tofie--
Wonder if Aldonza will ever know her aunt was also in love with her father and took his murder much harder than her mother did? Suffering in silence.

Oooohhh! Maybe Adelina's one of thooose!! You know those women who don't want a man unless he's someone else's. Maybe she's, like, afraid if a man is available to her she might, you know, want to "give herself" to him and she's afraid of that! My girl is her own private nunnery! The object of her desire having a wife is her automatic brake so she can love and suffer silently. She loved Ray, whom she couldn't have and now that Jock is married, she suddenly has eyes for him. Adelina could have her own drama queen, martyr for love thing going on. I love Adelina, but nobody's perfect!

I would love to know more about Adelina and Ray. I doubt we ever will, though. This show could have so many spin-offs!

When Roberta forced a confession from Adelina to cover up the REAL story, her banging Sev, Ray seemed clueless, was kind and sort of embarrassed for her. He would have been perfect for her but Roberta probably lured him in with her man-magnet pheromones, saw him as a good catch although she didn't love him and the rest is history.

This may have happened with several other of Roberta's beaus. Adelina didn't get the magnetic pheromone gene so she probably just suffered silently while Rob was beating them off (or not) with sticks!

Lila, I think you're right. Only one in every generation gets the man-magnet gene and Adelina wasn't the one :)

Speaking of pheremones, there was an actual pricey perfume that was sold under same name that claimed to contain REAL pheremones. So if someone missed the man/magnet gene, there may be a solution.

Lila..Yes, you bring up an interesting point. If Ray and Ade had married , we would have seen two sweet souls together. They probably would have had a happy marriage. ..not to mention the fact that Ray would probably still be alive. However, Ray must have been dazzled by Roberta's twirly, swirly red dresses and her hot, intense, impulsive personality. Que lastima.

I'd be more inclined to completely write Flavia off if Joq wasn't staring besottedly at Ade and if he wasn't ramping up Flavia's crazy by blatantly ignoring her concerns. I am 100% at the table that says stop attacking your husband like a crazy, shrieking harpy, but let's pretend she approached him like a reasonable person: "It makes me very uncomfortable that you're spending so much time with the woman you used to be in love with. Not only are you over there a lot of the time, you're not even charging them anything, so I have a hard time thinking of this as work. Please, please stop fixing up their house." "No. I'm not having an affair, so I don't see any reason to stop helping them." "This really bothers me. You're starting to miss out on putting our son to sleep so you can help a woman, knowing that your doing so drives me crazy. Please stop." "No. By the way, I am now going to go into business with them." "This really, really bothers me. I'm asking you to stop." "No. I'm spending the night out of the house. I'm just guarding her brother-in-law." "I can't shake how uncomfortable you're hanging around this woman makes me. Stop it" "No. I've also asked their lawyer to help with our legal troubles." "I'm not sure I can handle this. I feel like you don't care how much this is bothering me. It's gotten to be so serious that I'm thinking of divorce." "Fine. Go ahead. Just know that if you do it, my son is staying with me."

Somewhat imagined conversation: "I swear I'm not having an affair. That family means a lot to me. You should meet them. It might make you feel more comfortable about this." "I don't want to meet her! I listened to you go on for hours about how much you loved her before we got together. I'm not sure you have ever felt that passionately about me, so this is making me crazy! Yes, maybe I'm jealous for no reason, maybe there's nothing there, but I cannot shake this feeling. I know you think that there's no reason to stop, but the reason is that it's hurting me."

Now, I see his side of it: he's not having an affair, and she should trust him more. But I also don't see him trying to alleviate her worries. He also could ramp down, sit her down and say this is really important to him and it bothers him that she doesn't trust him just as much as it bothers her that he's around Adelina a lot. He could ask what exactly it is about this woman she's never met that bothers her so much and how can he show her that her concerns are unfounded. He could bring home flowers and a roaming candy house. He could get mariachis. He could bring in a mediator to help with the "you should meet her" argument.

That was long, sorry. It just bothers me because whether or not he's given Flavia an obvious reason to distrust him, he does have feelings for Ade and he's pretending that he doesn't. Maybe he's denying it to himself too, but they're there. all that being said, I am surprised by how interested I am in this couple. It's not that often that TNs have a realistic couple's obstacle with characters that aren't black and white (Flavia's a darker shade of grey, but she's not quite Cande).

Thanks Hellashelle, your right. I think what we have here is Flavia not feeling valued. Joaquin has not done anything to make her feel special or extra loved in view of her insecurities about Adelina. Especially since he IS spending so much time and free labor. Doesn't matter he has been faithful and good husband, every woman wants/deserves to be feel valued and important to her husband. It irks me that Joaquin goes around telling everyone how miserable he is and how jealous his wife is. Subconsciously he is seems to be setting up the expectation of a separaion. Flavia is a shrew, and I wish she could control her jealousies. I will be honest, if I were in her shoes, I would feel jealous too and I cant say for certain that I could be so cool and say the best things. Nobody really can say for certain how they would react until if and when it happened to them. Got to get ready for work now. Later!

I think they are setting it up so we aren't upset if Flavia dies. They did the same thing with Amores Verdaderos.

I am just speculating. Honestly, I'm not convinced Adelina and Joaquin are supposed to end up together. I see Adelina as the perpetual single tía. But if they are supposed to be together, Flavia will have to be out of the picture. If the audience thinks she's an awful shrew, then they can kill her off without upsetting Viewerville.

But after reading hellashelle's assessment, I feel some pity for Flavia.

Flip it around, though. What if it were Flavia with the old beau (who never really gave her the time of day) back in town and she were helping him fix up his new house because they were always such good friends, reassuring Joaquin that clearly there's nothing going on and she's devoted to him and to their son, not neglecting the care of her son but maybe being late a few times getting dinner on the table, forming new friendships with people the not-an-ex has around and getting to know them as well...and Joaquin is throwing jealous fits, constantly accusing her of sleeping with the guy, turning every conversation into a rant about her "lover," telling her she's "neglecting" him and her duties to run his household, refusing to get to know the guy and writing him off as a sleaze, and when none of that works threatening to leave her and take their son with him because he won't have "that bastard" raising his son?

Would he be entitled to a little ego stroking, cooking special dinners, cutting off all contact, whatever it takes to calm him down and reassure him that he's the only man in her life?

My vote is "no." This isn't just harmless jealousy. This is anger and delusions and an attempt to control another person and I don't care who it's coming from, that's not healthy. And I don't know why the hell he hasn't gotten out sooner if she does this all the time. Maybe it wasn't this bad before or her was thinking of Ray, I don't know.

I wish everyone would stop making valid, well-thought out arguments so I could make up my mind who I should hate. ;-)

Ha, Sara! Too bad! It's just not that kind of show. FWIW, I don't hate Flavia. I even occasionally agree with her. Er, or I did once anyway. When she said it wasn't her job to pack his overnight bag and he could damn well pack it himself, I totally agreed with her. Because he's not Ray's age. And what does he even need a bag for, he's just going to be sitting in Padre J's hospital room?

Diva - you make great points. If the situation were flipped (as if often is in TNs), the guy definitely comes off as just a jerk. Keep in mind though, that that situation would feel much worse because 1) guy's in TNs are genearlly louder and scarier than women when yelling 2) Joaquin works outside of the home, so him not seeing Adelina wouldn't cut him off from people in general 3) Flavia would be making googly eyes, so a lot of the argument would be the same, it might just seem more stifiling coming from a guy.

But we do actually have a flipped example: Ray and Rob. While Rob was somehow more loveable than Flavia, she also put Ray in that situation and it was not ok. We were all like "Poor Ray. Too bad he didn't fall for Ade." He loved her and trusted her and she had a serious affair. And when he got suspicious and loud, she turned on the indignation (and some waterworks? I can't remember) and he pretty much backed all the way down, only to go homicidal when he found out it was true.

Sara-lol, but that's what I love about TNs and the Patio! You guys really make me think and consider human nature and perception. TNs should be in Psych 101 curriculums.

But why is she so mad at Joaquin for sitting taking care of a priest? Because she's a control freak and if it's not Adelina she's mad about, it's whoever he spends time with who isn't her.

I enjoy reading the comments when folks start discussing human foibles.

"Hate" may be a strong word. The well-thought out arguments are making it difficult to decide who annoys me the most.

Just saw your comment cathyx. It's official: Flavia is the most annoying.

(Until the next cogent argument.)

Ray was suspicious and reacted in a pretty mild way--asking if what he'd heard was true. And there were a few "juramelo"s but nothing remotely close to what Flavia is doing. We might have seen different, if he hadn't gone to check out the barn, or if he'd survived that night.

I don't think that Flavia's behavior is an excuse for Joaquin and Adelina to hook up. And I wouldn't respect them if anything happens while he's still married. And I would actually like it if they stay just friends and nothing ever happens. But I think his marriage is too far gone, regardless. That's no way for either of them to live. If she's really going to think every glance of Joaquin's is a full-blown affair, if she really thinks her husband is a lying cheating skank, then she needs to dump his ass. Not insist on keeping him, but try to control him. She should ask Cande how that's working out for her.

Wow! Great comments today. Kat is swaying me more. For me, it would be one thing if Flavia were accusing Joaquin of having feelings for Adelina. That is true. But she is accusing him of actually having the affair. She really thinks so little of him? She really thinks he's the kind of person who lies and cheats and sneaks around? If that were the case, he wouldn't even be honest with her about where he was going. But he is. Every time he tells her exactly where he's going and who he's going to see. Does she really think that instead of taking care of the Padre, ALONE, at night in the hospital, he and Adelina are sneaking off to a broom closet in the hospital and getting it on? Because that seems to be what she's accusing him of.

Since, that is unsettled, should Adelina now sit Aldonza down and tell all? She was safe with all secrets until the return to Santa Lucia and get she was protecting Aldonza for Roberta. Now though, what purpose does hiding another child fulfill, especially since she knows that child likely alive? Aldonza cannot hate Severiano any more. Does Adelina ever speak the unspeakable, that Roberta killed Ray protecting Severiano and burned his body before Severiano does? Can you imagine the glee Severiano will get from disclosing that tidbit to our little fawn.

Roberta made Adelina swear, after she told her about killing Ray after her cancer diagnosis, that she would NEVER tell Aldonza. Adelina is the kind of gal who takes vows seriously, so I'm thinking nothing short of a life threatening situation would get that info out of her.

Aldonza can't hate Sever more, but she could start hating Roberta if she knew that it was HER affair that brought the devil into their lives-- causing Ray's murder and her rape years later.

Vivi, "Does she really think that instead of taking care of the Padre, ALONE, at night in the hospital, he and Adelina are sneaking off to a broom closet in the hospital and getting it on?" Maybe she watches too many Gray's Anatomy reruns :D

Most of the accusations of cheating on this show have been unfounded, or there have been "feelings" but nothing else. Some of them have even been hilariously wrong like the accusations about Humberto and Aldonza. The actual cheaters are doing a much better job of hiding their actions. Even Sev, now that he's been found out, still has Simoneta living right there in town and I'm sure Cande doesn't suspect *that*. Is Pru a cheater yet? I wouldn't say she's doing a good job of hiding anything, more that the people she's trying to hide it from are ridiculously clueless. Val and Lardo have been found out, but they were good at keeping things under wraps for a long time there...her big mistake was trusting Lardo to keep his mouth shut, and then the public kissing on the street put the nail in the coffin.

I think Flavia likely very insecure and with Adelina's return the scab was knocked off. I totally agree she has crossed over to batshit crazy over the PJ slumber party.

Meant to continue, that Adelina would not want Aldonza to hate her mother, and so she is continuing to protect Roberta by keeping quiet about her sins.

Adelina also feels guilty for Ray's death because she thinks she pointed him in the direction of the lovers. I watched that scene twice, and she really didn't. It was late at night, Ray came home, and instead of his wife being home caring for his child, he finds Adelina. He demanded to know where she was and all Adelina said was she was out, and not far away. Sure, she looked guilty as heck, but the words "Roberta is in the barn with her lover" never passed Adelina's lips. Ray found them all on his own (saw Sever's car parked outside the barn) and came to his own conclusions based on recent suspicions.

Didn't Lardo blab before Val even when off to Spain? Val and Lardo have been sleeping together a long while, haven't they?

Santa Lucia is the gossip capital of the world. That has to mess with your head. I'm NOT defending Flavia (as tofie said, she's crossed over to BSC), but being at ground zero for Peyton Place has got to make a person see scandal even when there is none there.

No, Aldonza can't hate Sev more, but finding out eeeeeverything could push her to be even more reckless than she's already been. Don't ask me how, 'cause she's already risking a lot, so I don't know what else she could do, but I'm sure it would be spectacularly stupid. Drive her new truck through Sev's front door? Go tell it all to the clueless cops? Stand up in the middle of church and make accusations?

I'd really like her to be a little more calculating and start looking for and gathering actual evidence instead of flying off the handle and flinging accusations around with nothing to back those accusations up. I just don't get the feeling that if she were to find out more of the truth, instead of thinking "DAMN! I really am dealing with the devil incarnate. I need to tread more carefully" she'd just go scream at him.

As for the other subject...I don't want Aldonza to ever find out what Roberta did. Ever. No matter who she hears it from, her image of her mother would be destroyed and she would never be able to really come to terms with it since Roberta is dead.

*remove "don't"

"Drive her new truck through Sev's front door?"

Just like Ray.

La Sombra del....

PASADO (*dunh dunh dunh*!!!)

I would advise purchasing a Monster Truck before she tries that trick...but what the hell, I'd cheer.

As long as no horses get hurt!

I thought of that Vivi but Severiano will tell Aldonza at some point. Does Adelina gamble he doesn't? I'm for telling and if Aldonza hates her mother for killing her father while protecting her lover, so what. Despite the twirly skirts Roberta is a murderer and to desecrate his body as she did after and continue the affair with Severiano, unpardonable.

Word! No horse trauma!

But more horse drama would be welcome. They're so gorgeous! And such hams in front of the camera :D

Roberta has definitely gotten her anvil-CANCER.

But I don't think that Aldonza should suffer because her mother was a murderer. If Aldonza finds out the truth, I think it will be painful. If she has to find out, I guess it's better it comes from Adelina.

But of course it's more dramatic to have it come from Sev. That's probably how it will go down.

Yes, Adelina is the better choice, if it has to be done. Sev will just make everything sound even worse than it was, or try to add in more lies.

THE SECRETS that Aldonza and Cris have to discover, and who knows them.

The Affair- revealed last week by Cande, confirmed by Sever and Adelina.

The Murder of Padre Sixto (Sever and Humberto)

The Machete Fight/Lost Arm (Sever)

The Murder of Ray (Sever and Adelina)

The Love Child (Sever, Cande, Hum, Adelina, Padre J)

The Plot to Get Rid of the Love Child (Sever, Cande, Hum)

The Identity of the Love Child (Sever, Cande, Hum)

The Rape (Sever, Aldonza, Adelina)

Does Cande really know that the love child is alive and who it is? I was always under the impression that she knew that Sev did something with the baby, but not exactly what.

Sara - that's a good point; Cande might know what Sev did, but not who the kid is. Though she should have figured it out since Hum was the doctor and then magically had a new baby in the house.

I forgot that Cris and Val are another mirror for Joaquin and Flavia.

Yeah. I'm sure if he didn't eventually outright tell her what he did with the baby, she figured it out pretty quickly.

Ok. That makes sense. She probably doesn't want to him to tell him anyway. For now she still has plausible deniability.

Sara is tight, let everyone hate or not hate who they want in peace. With respect, I just want to relax and enjoy my tn's Too much work to flip things around, or debate the issue. I was just stating my opinion, and will not expend energy defending my thoughts. If I may, I also agree that it might go like Amores Verdados, and Flavia bites the dust. I hadn't thought of that.

Yikes, meant: Sara is right.

I don't think anyone meant you had to defend your thoughts, Novella lover. I'm sure that most folks agree we can hate or like whomever we please.

I like the debates and the "flip sides." I enjoy those. I was more making a joke on myself. My opinion is so easily swayed.

Agreed. Nobody has to defend anything. I didn't think anybody was attacking anyone, either. If we have anything to debate or multiple ways of interpreting things, I think that's a strength of the show. Very little is completely cut-and-dried. Even the things I would venture to say we all agree on have room for nuance. Our "evil" characters are three-dimensional, not cardboard cutouts. Our "good" characters are flawed and make mistakes.

So true. TNs with this kind of depth and nuance are so much fun to watch.

Does anyone remember about which episode it was when the casa/caja de caramelos made its first appearance?

Survey says...Episode 30

Saw this question a while back. Here's my 2 cents: Yes, Pru is cheating! BIG TIME! I was angry about her cheating but I stepped back and recalled this is the hypocritical scag that is spreading lies about Aldonza, publicly stoned her and agreed to spread lies about Adelina. So. I am VERY happy she is being such a low down, cheating, lying skank. I don't think two people have to engage their nether regions to cheat. All she lacks is opportunity and she would surrender those as easily as she did her lips and the rest of her body, even though clothed. She let that slug, Tomas, into her home, into her bedroom and yes, into her heart.

I want her to be busted even in the midst of that final surrender, in the most public and humiliating way!

Does Hum know what happened in that barn..how Sev lost his arm and Ray was killed ?

Susanlynn- No. Sever never told anyone what happened in the barn. Hum, Cande, and even Dominga and Melesio were suspicious. But Sever stuck to his injured on farm equipment story with all of them. Only he and Roberta knew exactly what happened in that barn.

no problem Diva or Sara, Didn't feel attacked at all. I did not mean to imply that. Sorry.

Whew! I'm glad. Sometimes things get misunderstood since we are just reading. And I know I my case I'm trying to sneak in comments at work.

Thanks for the BIG SECRETS list, Vivi!

Yes, Vivi thanks, helps get all these intricate details in order in my mind.

Gracias, Vivi! It would be cool to have an interactive white board where we could keep track of all these things. The secrets, the mysteries, the theories...move them around and check things off as we find out for sure.

http://prezi.com/collaborate/

Just sayin.

Don't know if anyone is checking this but I have caught up! Will see you in the next discussion.

Good to hear that, Urban! Glad you are caught up!
