TELEMUNDO Y MÁS: DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO, TIERRAS DE REYES, AVENIDA BRASIL, etc – week of April 6, 2015

Dueños del Paraíso is in últimas semanas at 10pm/9C, or as we think of it around here, the NarcoHour.   Look for the latest season of El Señor de los Cielos to begin around April 21 at that same time.

Meanwhile, Tierras de Reyes continues chugging along, the middle child in the primetime lineup that is finally getting a little attention.

The new show this week is Avenida Brasil, a Portuguese language novela that was a monster of a hit (and an unprecedented money-maker) when it originally aired on Brazilian TV from March to October 2012.  It went on to achieve remarkable international success.  For a socioeconomic perspective on its huge impact, take a look at this piece in Forbes from October 19, 2012.

Telemundo broadcast a Spanish-dubbed version of the novela during the daytime last year.  It was discussed and fairly regularly recapped here (mostly by our Mads) beginning during this week, as far as I can tell.  Now the novela is being repeated as a primetime offering in the 8pm/7C slot, beginning tonight, April 6.

Here's a loose translation of what I found on the Telemundo website.  (Bear in mind that, as usual, the writing on this official website is oddly inconsistent and unreliable.  This is one time when it really doesn't sound better in Spanish.)

Synopsis:

Avenida Brasil is the dramatic story of Rita, a girl who struggles to recover the part of the life that her fortune-hunting stepmother Carminha has stolen from her.  Years later, now an adult and motivated by vengeance, Rita finds Carminha and becomes the family cook so she can infiltrate herself into Carminha's life and put her plan into action.   Under the name of Nina, she will have to confront her past and decide how far she will allow her thirst for justice to go even though her attitude could cost her the love of her life.

Characters:

Nina (Débora Falabella) is a discreet and mysterious young woman who is blinded by her objectives.  For her, the ends justify the means if the cause is a great one.  She hides the dark side of her personality.  The heroine of the drama, she is unable to overcome the traumas of her past.  Nina has become a woman driven by the need for justice after the death of her father, Genesio, and after the suffering she herself endured at the hands of her stepmother Carminha.

Carminha (Adriana Esteves) is the great villain of the story.  While married to Genesio, Carminha was Max's lover.  She is a cold, ambitious woman and she will do anything to get what she wants.  After she is widowed, she manages to get her stepdaughter out of her way, abandoning her at a garbage dump (depósito de residuos).  Carminha will also manage to marry Jorge Tifón, a famous soccer player.

Jorge Tifón (Murilo Benício) is an ex-soccer player who had a successful career.  He is rich, but he leads an unostentatious life.  He never abandoned his origins, despite the money he earned through his life.  He is an emotional and generous man who values his family very much.

Jorgito (Cauã Reymond) is the adopted son of Carminha and Tifón.  He is a soccer player, but he never made the first division in Rio de Janeiro.  He has potential, but has lost his focus in the midst of his many problems.  He also lived in a garbage dump as a young child, a time when he was known as Patata.

Max (Marcello Novaes) is Carminha's lover and associate.  He agrees to everything she proposes, including the plan to take her stepdaughter Rita to a garbage dump, and he also helps her to conquer Jorge Tifón.  He marries Ivana, Tifón's sister, and goes to live under the same roof as Carminha and the mother- and father-in-law.  Max enjoys the good life but he is tired of Ivana's family's lack of ambition and of his lover Carminha's disobedience.

¡Que tengan una buena semana!

DUEÑOS

The recap will be up in an hour or so. But first...I posted on Friday that I will be on vacation the week of April 13. NovelaMaven offered to recap the nights I've been doing: Monday and Thursday. And, I won't be back the 20th until late evening. NovelaMaven thinks this is the final. So maybe Hombre de Misterio or Deb might want to take the final since they've been around for the whole ride.

I will do tonight's and Thursday's, although Thursday might be a brief one.

DUEÑOS

Just to clarify a bit what Novelera said about filling in when she is on vacation, this is what I said:

I don't want to muscle my way in here at the last minute, but I can be on standby for April 13, 16 and 20. If one of the 'regulars' hasn't spoken for the day in question, I'll do my best to write something. The 20th may turn out to be the final episode, so I do hope someone else claims it. It seems only fair.

It might be fun for someone who has been watching and commenting all along to jump in and recap without making a long-term commitment. So I repeat that I am on STANDBY on Novelera's nights next week. If no one has spoken up by the time the show airs, I'll try to put something up.

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 1 de 3

We return to Thursday’s scene with Renato and Anastasia. He tells her how special she is and starts to say he could, perhaps, be… She says she doesn’t like what he’s saying, but… They fooled me! She isn't cruelly rejecting him. She just says that she hates being called Señora. Háblame de tú…Anastasia. He smiles that terrific smile we so seldom see. Of course…Anastasia.

Adán comes home and Verónica is waiting for him. She looks very sad. She tells him she’s said things without thinking them through. Maybe she’s felt desperate because she wants their life to be like it was. She wants to be happy and at peace. She apologizes for the way she’s been.

Chad staggers around at the prom looking for Luciana.

Adán tells her she doesn’t have to apologize. He knows that things have been very difficult. He also wants what they had before. They embrace and kiss. The phone rings, and it’s Chad, looking for Luciana.

Leandro Quezada invites José Carlos to have some aguardiente he brought especially from Colombia. [Aguardiente is the national drink of Colombiia and is a distillation of sugar cane molasses and anise essential oils. It’s similar to pastís, sambuca, and anisette.] Paola grumbles about Gina leaving the baby to go to Ft. Lauderdale. We see Daisy taking little Rodrigo off to bed. I FF through one of Varoni’s rants about his testy daughter.

Iggy is in his hospital bed. He lifts the covers, look underneath and starts to cry. I can’t muster up even the tiniest bit of sympathy.

At some sort of odd dressing room at the Prom, Daytona mounts the semi-conscious Chad while one of the mean girls takes photos.

LQ tells José Carlos that they’ll find out from the doctor tomorrow what’s really going on with Iggy. He says that’s why he needs to talk with JC about the “administration” of the cartel. He tells his son that he doesn’t really trust him; but, on the other hand, he can’t leave the cartel in charge of a half man, tullido (crippled or paralyzed). LQ is thinking of making JC the administrator, but with he himself always in the background, protecting his interests.

Vero and Adán have come to the Prom, and found the room with Daytona astride Chad. Adán grabs Chad and asks where’s Lu. Daytona, a nasty piece of work as always, tells the concerned parents that she’ll send them both to jail for narcotics trafficking if Adán lays a hand on Chad. One of the Mean Girls says, giggling, that Luciana left because she wasn’t chosen as Prom Queen.

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 2 de 3

Returning to his hotel room José Carlos opens the door to find a trail of Gina’s clothes. [Ft. Lauderdale, my Aunt Fannie!I] Gina says she was stressed out and needed to see him. He tells her she hasn’t done anything that would cause her to end up like Iggy. He goes on to say that Iggy deserves exactly what he got and, furthermore, that he doesn’t think he’ll ever get up out of that bed.

At Casa Cardona Irene is sucking down champagne while in bed with Bob Venegas. She wonders why Conrado wasn’t at the police station. Then she answers her own question. “Of course! He was with esa vieja, referring to Érika. Bob says that Érika is so beautiful that any hombre se le caería la baba (would be completely thrilled to have her; literally: would be drooling). Irene says she can’t stand her. Bob tells her the truth: that she’s envious! Ever the diplomat, he tells Irene that Érika could be her daughter, no, her granddaughter! This doesn’t go over well. She says that her enmity is because Érika is making her daughter suffer. [But I think it’s because she saw her querido Bob making a pass at Érika at the pool party.] Finally: “How much would you charge me to kill her?

Érika is brought home by Carmen and Sergio. Sergio asks Carmen to wait in the car and tries it on again with Érika. He tells her what a fabulous actress she is and leans in for a kiss. He gets her cheek instead of her lips. He ends up saying he knows he’ll get her to fall in love with him. [For me: Last man on earth, desert island, complete die-off of the population, etc., etc.]

Adán and Vero come home to find Luciana. Roque, one of the Cardona cartel’s bodyguards, brought her home. Vero goes off on her daughter about how dangerous it is for her to be out at night with the Colombian cartel after them. She ends up slapping Lu and Lu says she hates her mother. After Lu goes to her room, Adán tells Vero not to say a word about what they saw with Chad and the girls.

Bob tells Irene that killing Érika would be different from what he usually does. She’s famous. Irene scoffs at this, saying Érika is just a miserable porn actress. She tries to get a discount because Bob is practically part of the family! She promises him some of her old prostitute tricks to make up part of the fee. But he says money still needs to change hands. It sounds like Bob is on board. Irene tells him that her daughter will be completely in agreement with this.

Vero begs to be let in outside her daughter’s bedroom door. Lu finally lets her in and they both apologize: one for the slap and the other for the te odio. Lu begs her mother to help her. She wants an abortion. She says she can’t do it. She’s afraid. Vero: “What are you afraid of? Giving birth? All first-time mothers fear this.” Lu: “Yes, giving birth; that I’ll die” She goes on to say that she’s young. She wants to travel, to study and with a baby, how’s she going to be able to do these things?

Vero says that she was also young when she had Lu, but the minute she held her in her arms, everything changed. Vero goes on for a long and rather syrupy declamation of the virtues of motherhood. [While we see the one who could never be a mother in the shower looking very sad.] We even see a shot of Daisy cooing over Rodrigo. Vero swears that nothing compares to being a mother. Vero asks her daughter to invite her to sleep together that night and Lu does so.

LOS DUEÑOS DEL PARAÍSO – LUNES – Parte 3 de 3

In the morning Adán wakes up on the patio, still dressed. He apparently finished off a bottle of tequila. He wanders around and finds Érika in the pool swimming. She suggests he jump in, saying it’s nice and warm. She looks fantastic. She says he can get one of Conrado’s bathing suits or just jump in in his undies.

We get a quick trip to Santiago and see the despicable Jorge walking down a hallway in his boxers. He finds Mina (or la mina, if that was what they really said) with blood on her face, haunting him. Then he sits up bolt upright. It was a dream. Vanessa is there. She tells him she can imagine why he has bad dreams. She knows about his “work” for La Dina [Dirección de Inteligencia Nacional, the Chilean secret police]. He angrily tells her that his work is private and confidential. Vanessa, not a bit concerned about his victims, just tells him that La Dina should pay him more.

Adán tells Érika, referring to she and Conrado, that, if they fight so much, maybe it would be better to separate. Érika: “Look who’s talking! The ideal husband. She says she knows that his marriage isn’t perfect. He tells her he married for life. He believes in his marriage. Érika: “What happens if you begin to have feelings for someone else?” Adán: “This happens all the time. It’s normal.” She asks if he thinks it’s normal for them to be here together talking about such things. Adán: “Ah, Érika, if you knew…?”

We see that WAA Conrado has arrived. I guess he left the note to hedge his bets at Anastasia’s house, then came looking for his true obsession. Adán: verbalizes that he’s thought about kissing her, touching her taking off her clothes. But he goes on to say that this is only a fantasy. Érika: “It doesn’t have to be only imagination, a fantasy?” They almost kiss, but Adán moves back. Conrado has shown up poolside. “Go ahead! Kiss each other! Kiss her on the mouth! You’re dying to, traidor de mierda.

AVENIDA BRASIL

I watched the first episode. I'll be watching this one and, when Dueños ends, might commit to some recapping when I get back from vacation. But only if there are other volunteers.

Dueños

wow, great recap novelera!

that dress that Gina was wearing looks like it was splattered with blood, what a strange design.

I'm not sure how Daisy got there but both JC and Iggy know her.

and thanks for explaining La Dina.

I'm sure glad I don't have any relatives like Irene and Bob.

so Adan is quitting the biz and putting his family life back together and is over in Erika's pool in his undies, and Conrado, they did this before where they play the music to a song but no words, and I think it was "You don't own me" by Lesley Gore (her second most famous song after "It's My Party")

You don't own me
I'm not just one of your many toys
You don't own me
Don't say I can't go with other boys

And don't tell me what to do
Don't tell me what to say
And please, when I go out with you
Don't put me on display 'cause

You don't own me...

Avenida Brazil

Oi! Oi! Oi!

I think I spent the whole daytime showing trying to get into the tv to give Carminha a good slap or two, she is just plain nasty and it's worse when she is being nice to someone.

Dueños

NovelaMaven- I love your recaps, comments or whatever you care to add, gran final's are too tough for me because they do that jumping around thingy while explaining what happened to everyone and that goes right over my head.

btw, I've noticed that every week Telemundo gets Miami film permits for "Dueños del Paraíso", I'm wondering if they aren't filming the second season.

Avenida Brasil - Monday - Part 1

I’ll do a recap from memory of the first episode and see how it goes from there. I watched this when it was on in the daytime and it is a great novela.
Brazilian novelas have LOTS of characters and stories so it is somewhat overwhelming at first. We haven’t even met half of them yet.

Genesio is a widower who has a young daughter, Rita and they live in an unfashionable suburb of Rio de Janeiro. He has remarried Carmen Lucía, known as Carmina. Rita and Carmina do not get along well. Carmina has convinced Genesio to sell the house that had been the in family of his dead wife and make a new start. Rita is against this and when she starts breaking the ornaments that Carmina has packed and then throws some food on Carmina, Carmina twists the head off the doll her mother gave her and is about to beat her when Genesio comes home. Carmina tells Genesio that Rita is out of control. Genesio won’t listen to Rita’s side of the story.

Meanwhile, Jorge Araújo, who is always referred to as Tifón, is the star of the local football (soccer) club, called Divino. Divino is playing for the championship of its league. We briefly see Tifón’s family, his mother, Doña Muricy, his father, Leleco, and his sister, Ivana. We also see Tifón’s girlfriend, Monalisa, who works in a beauty parlor. Tifón makes a public proposal of marriage to Monalisa from a truck with loudspeakers.

In contrast to the goings on in the suburbs, we have the storyline of Carlos Eduardo. He is a rich financier who lives in a fashionable part of Rio. Carlos Eduardo is a bigamist. We see him with his two wives: Veronica and Debora, their daughter, and Noemia and their son Tomas. Naturally, this arrangement makes his life very complicated (and it will only get more complicated.) He tells his wives that he has frequent business in Sao Paulo to explain his absences. Carlos Eduardo arranges to meet one wife at a restaurant but the other wife is at the same restaurant. He manages to avoid being seen and flees. Veronica and Noemia discuss the failings of their husbands in the ladies room. Carlos Eduardo is a big fan of the Divino football club. He has a relationship to Divino that will be revealed later.

Avenida Brasil - Monday - Part 2

On the morning of the day that will change the lives of many characters in the novela, Rita refuses to get on the school bus and sneaks back into her house. She overhears Carmina on the phone with her lover, Max. Max is going to steal the money that Genesio is receiving for the sale of the house and Carmina and Max will run away together. Carmina says how much she despises Genesio. Rita escapes from the house without being seen by Carmina. She runs to find her father and warn him. He refuses to believe her. He goes to the bank and gets the house sale proceeds. But it appears that he paid attention to what Rita told him. He is walking home apparently carrying the money in a briefcase. Two guys come up on a motorcycle and grab the briefcase. Genesio goes home and tells Carmina that the money from the house sale was stolen. But the money was not in the briefcase. He hides the money in the house and tells Rita that she was right about Carmina. He continues his pretense with Carmina and they watch the football game together.

Carmina tells Genesio that she is going out to get a beer. When she leaves, he tells Rita to lock up the house and not let anyone in. He follows Carmina and sees her meeting her lover. When Max tells Carmina that the money was not in the briefcase, she accuses him of taking it and cutting her out of the deal. Genesio confronts Carmina. She taunts him with her disgust for him and ends up pushing him down a flight of stairs. Genesio hits his head and is disoriented. It starts to pour down with rain.

Meanwhile, Divino has won the football championship and Tifón is celebrating at the club. He decides to go to where Monalisa is. Genesio is staggering around in the road - this is the Avenida Brasil of the novela’s title. He keeps repeating that Carmen Lucia Morero de Souza must go to jail. Genesio staggers in front of Tifón’s car and is hit. Before he dies, Genesio manages to say his wife’s name but nothing else. Tifón assumes that he is being asked to take care of Genesio’s wife and promises to do so.
Carmina and Max have go back to Genesio’s house and are trying to get in.

DUENOS:

Thanks, Novelera, for another one of your wonderful, idiom filled, recaps. I love them!

We didn't see Ferrara last night, but I was thinking, he doesn't have to do a thing. If he just sits back and waits, both the Cardona and Quezada cartels will self destruct!

I felt this was a very talky episode, they're sort of stretching things out, maybe we'll have some action in the last few days.

Novelera, I did watch a little of Sr. Avila, and you were right, Margarita Munoz (our Gina) displays much more of her charms on cable :) Thanks!

I really don't want them to have a season two, but I guess the networks have no way of knowing this. Maybe by not watching El Senor de los Cielos 3, they'll see it's a bad idea (but I doubt it).

As for the Gran Final, I'll do a recap, but it'll probably be my usual short one, so maybe others can fill in and we can have multiple recaps covering various parts of it.

AVENIDA Brasil

Hi, I haven't posted since Reina de Corazones ended. I used to use the name Clarita's Pencilcase. Anyway, looking forward to following AB with y'all :)

AVENIDA BRASIL

Thanks so much, Jean, for the recap. I've missed your writing style!

As I stated before, I'm in because I don't plan to watch El Señor de los Cielos. For crying out loud, Telemundo, you've milked this one to death. The only season worth watching was the first one. And I just can't stand the length of Univisión novelas, the remakes, and the idiotic comedy bits they insert.

I enjoyed the first episode that, yes, was somewhat confusing. I didn't read NovelaMaven's nice description of the characters because I kind of like the first day or two of confusion and wondering how disparate characters are going to play off each other.

That little girl playing Rita is adorable! And that was some big twist that Genesio DID listen to her and found out the truth about her wicked stepmother. I did NOT expect Genesio to be hit by a car driven by the big soccer star!

The bigamist and his business wheeling and dealing offer comic relief to the show.

I didn't find the dubbing as bad as it sometimes is. I studied Portuguese many years ago and sometimes wish I could hear a novela in the language it was performed in, but think that's unlikely since we certainly don't get Brazilian TV stations.

Former Clarita's Pencilcase: I hope you'll consider recapping if you'll be watching this novela. I'll be on vacation next week but would commit to one night per week. Mondays are usually good for me.

AVENIDA

Jean - thank you for the recap. This one looks dark, heavy, stressful and I was worn out after watching this first episode. Because of its reputation, I will give it a good try.

I was grossed out that Veronica and Noemia shared a lipstick. Eww.

Dueños

Thanks. Novelera. Your recap is invaluable. Thanks for the info on Aguardiente because I got it all wrong.

Chad does staggered and confused very well.

We knew Vero would warm up to her husband just as he and Érika made headway. I’d like to see Adán become Mr. Sugar Lips, holding Érika’s purse while her fans throng around her at the next Porno Theatre Premiere. He seems understanding of her career choice now, but would he be so laid back about if she were his woman?

My guess is the fact that Gina left her baby for a while, considering the circumstances, does not bode well for her. But everybody isn't supermom like Vero.

NovelaMaven, looking forward to your recaps. :D

Novelera... Unfortunately I'm still learning and my Spanish is in no way good enough to decipher an entire episode :( The reason I found you guys in the first place was by doing a Google search to try to make head or tails of what was going on in Reina de Corazones!

~ Rita's beheaded doll (previously known as Clarita's Pencil case)

AVENIDA BRAZIL

Rita's Beheaded Doll! Love your nick!

Gracias, gracias!
Feels good to be back :)

Dueños del Paraíso... epi 60, Tuesday
(ultimos capitilos)

it's morning in Miami...

a drunk Conrado walking in on Erika and Adan in the pool about to kiss,
can't let it drop,
Erika keeps them apart, so he takes it next door,
"Veronica", "Veronica",
but at the last minute Adan knocks him down and out.
(this is the second time Adan has done that)

at the hospital, Paola visits Iggy,
the doctor spills, the bullet hit his spinal column, he may not walk,
then he pulls Paola aside, (away from Leandro and JC),
and it destroyed his genitals.
(that Anas is good)

at school Chad pleads his innocence, he doesn't remember anything,
as Lu opens her locker, what's this,
a prom night photo album starring Chad and Daytona,
with Dayto off in the background smiling,
(the dark roots in her blond hair showing more than usual).

Adan swings by Erika's, nothing happened he keeps reminding who ever will listen,
but she has that look, like she wished it would,
Adan brings Conrado a cup of coffee and his nothing happened speech,
Conrado remembers all, and isn't liking any of it.

Chile- Gerardo swings by to get Analia going on her flight, chats with mom,
who is always thrilled with whatever powerful/rich men talk about,
Analia wants him to meet Tomas, him not so much.

Iggy chats with Paola, he looked, he knows,
maybe she should move on,
but Paola is hanging in there for now.

Conrado takes a long shower, thinking of Anas,
and when he gets out, there she is,
we have to talk,
she coaxes him to stop lying to her,
he doesn't know with Erika,
but he does care for Anas,
Cares???

(and as the conversation deepens we see Erika on-the-set sensually eating some grapes)

and possessive Conrado's song plays on, (the same one with all his loves, is this her singing "you don't own me")
and Anas leaves.

back to the porno pic studio, Erika is in Harry Torso's arms with direction from Sergio, Carmen perched on his arm smiling, and returning to his chair we see the defiant Vaitiare Santos (the previous under age porn star) in his seat,
what are you doing here?

Chad is still pleading his case with Lu, who I think has had enough, brings up again that she may not have the baby, which brings up Daytona who wants to remind everyone what a wonderful night it was, Lu storms off, Chad gets angry at Dayto grabbing her, but she reminds him that her dad would not like to hear that he hit her.

Gina swings by the Leandro narco mansion to see her baby, that seems to cry whenever she is around, but Daisy takes her out for some air while Gina calls JC, I want to see you again, ok dinner, what will I tell your dad, don't know but don't worry, and the date is set, as we see a loving look from JC to a lady in his room as he tells her the plan is all set,

and smooth/quiet/hungover Conrado casually swings by the Romero's to apologize, even takes off his sunglasses, but with Adan throwing in that coca males you hallucinate, and Vero insisting to know exactly what he saw between Adan and Erika, and he remembering the almost kiss, wow, I'm not so sure he will follow through on this.

Anas drags on home to the worried Renato and Irene, says she was so stupid, and walks off to be alone.

it was a long day in Miami.

DUENOS:

Thanks, Deb, wonderful poetry/prose, as always!

Yes, it was a long night in Miami, and it was a long night watching the endless conversations. What happened to out action? In the end, I guess Anas broke up with Conrado, so now he'll try to get Erika back, probably won't confront Adan, just work his charm. And Erika was not kissing Harry Torso very well, no passion. Why? Because maybe she wants Conrado back too, and is just using Adan to make Conrado jealous. Maybe.

And now that Anas broke up with Conrado, where does that leave Irene's desire to have Bob kill Erika? That's wouldn't work anymore (as if it ever would).

Although Chad is no prize, I sort of hope he and Lu can work things out. Of course, he's not guilty with Daytona, except that in the past, he's allowed Daytona too much leeway, not being abrupt enough with her, so Lu's doubts keep growing. I really wish something could be done about that awful Daytona, who keeps threatening everyone with her Daddy.

I have no sympathy for Iggy. He kept saying forgive me, forgive me, but for what? Is he the least bit repentant for his rapes of Anas and Lu? For all of his cold blooded murders? Doubt it.

I'm VERY intrigued by the mystery woman who's working with Jose Carlos!

Tierra
Where are all the Tierra fans? SO much has been happening. I don't understand much of the dialogue, but
I can tell that Leo has something awful planned for the
general, one of my favorites. What a dilemna for Pablo.
Despite her flaws, I can't help but feel sorry for Rocio.
I was so happy that Arturo stood up to Caye.I wanted
Nestor and her to get together at one point, but now I
don't think she deserves him. However, I have a very
forgiving spirit if she radically reforms. Anon Gringa

Dueños

Thanks, Deb. My fave: Adan swings by Erika's, nothing happened he keeps reminding who ever will listen - lol

It seems everybody’s too busy with their own personal lives to be bothered running the business. Ferrara, now is a good time for you to make headway while everybody’s distracted with lovesickness.

Hmmm, the mystery woman was conservatively dressed and JC showed affection for her but not an erotic thing. Who oh who could she be?

TIERRA

Behind schedule as usual, but here's a summary of Monday. So much is happening!

Starting with the worst: Valverde has had his goons haul Brigitte off to the isolated cabin of torture. She tries to negotiate the release of her mother before she hands over the information, but he tears the chain with USB pendant from around her neck. Then he menaces her more and then rips her shirt open with the handle of his cane and grabs something that I think was a tracking device? So then he's really angry at her and has his goons haul her away somewhere in the woods; they make her drive her car there. Then head goon makes her crazy with psychological torture while other goon messes around under the hood. They let her get back in her car and tell her they'll give her to the count of three to try to escape before they shoot. She steps on the gas...one...two...at three the car explodes.

Next a sad musical montage...Nestor looking devastated, putting flowers at a white cross with Brigitte's name on it, everyone else sadly reacting to the news of her death. Except Leo, who just wants to get busy with Cayetana.

Oh, the police let Leo go. They all think he's guilty but the prosecutor who's been blackmailed insisted they didn't have enough evidence against him.

Time passing montage...Andrea throws a fit when she sees pics of Sam and Beatriz in a magazine...Irina and Flavio meet up for secret sexytimes...Caye and Leo sneak around...the boys race on horsies...Pablo and Rocio smooch. Yes, indeed.

So it's two months later and Sam and Bea come home from their honeymoon, to the immense disgust of Boris and Natasha.

They stroll around the garden looking all blissful, but then Bea collapses. When she comes to, she temporarily can't remember who Sam is. He freaks out and gets the doctor to come. As previously arranged, the doc lies to Sam and says it's nothing serious. Alone with Bea, he tells her she doesn't have much time left. She's going to start going steeply downhill and her husband needs to know.

Meanwhile, Cayetana has packed her daughters off to the beach house for some R&R, the better to get busy with Leo at home. Unfortunately, her father catches them kissing. Hahaha! So funny, this woman who is about to become a grandmother, getting in trouble with her dad for kissing a bad boy. She swears to daddy that she couldn't help it, the luuuurve was too strong! But she always respected Ignacio and Sofia before she was widowed and Leo was divorced! Grandpa looks thoroughly disgusted. Leo is rude and smarmy to him, as usual.

Off at the beach house, Sofia is telling her unborn child all about how mommy and daddy had sex on the beach and created him/her. Thank goodness that kid can't understand this. Arturo shows up and she's still angry and doesn't trust him. In typical form, his response to that is to forcefully kiss her. I'm SO SICK OF PEOPLE BEING GRABBED AND KISSED AGAINST THEIR WILL AS A DEMONSTRATION OF PASSION AND ROMANCE. Anyway, her sisters show up and tell him to go away. Later, she goes into labor.

Pablo and Rocio announce their engagement to the rest of the staff. They have been dating a whole month, after all.

Meanwhile, over at Snob Central, Veronica's family is rushing to head to the airport for Veronica's wedding. But just then Veronica walks in. She's dumped her fiance. She's going to live her own life and try to be happy. Her mother reacts in predictable fashion. How COULD she?!?!?! Doesn't she know that mommmy's ability to impress vile people she doesn't like with connections to an outdated and useless peerage is far more important than happiness?!?! Minerva threatens to cut her off financially, but Veronica doesn't care. She walks out the door. Never look back, Vero!

There might have been other stuff, but Brigitte's death kind of overshadowed everything.

THANK YOU, Julia
I wonder if Brigette's death is to pave the way for Nestor and Caye later.

This will be my first tn dubbed into Spanish. I haven't watched the entire first episode yet, but, unlike Novelera, I'm glad to have some advance information on who these folk are and their agenda. Thank you, Jean for starting us off.

Hola to our rebranded Clarita's Pencil Case. I do like how you pick something related to the novela. (I also noticed that you, perhaps intentionally, in both cases, chose objects belonging to children in the story.)

However, is there some way that's acceptable to you to somewhat shorten Rita's Beheaded Doll? Because of that and the image that it seems to bring up after some of the real ones that are currently taking place.

Duenos

So Daytona had such a wonderful night with Chad that she had have pics taken and put into an album, all for Lu? Blech. I'm generally opposed to cocaine and drug dealers, but in this case, I'd like to see her father beholden to the Anas crew for something. I don't care what. Just something to shut that girl up.

DUEÑOS, lunes y martes

Now I've finally caught up with the week so far and read Novelera's and deb's fabulous recaps. Thanks so much to both of you.

I was a little more forgiving than you, Novelera, of Vero's little celebration of motherhood. I liked the actresses together, and I like the fact that the character of Vero is such a good mother (the ONLY good mother?) who is completely there for her daughter. She warned her about contraception way back when, but she doesn't throw that in her face now. There was a real message of female solidarity: Men may come and go, but the love for children is an unbreakable bond.

deb, I love how you picked up on the "You don't own me" theme. So feminism comes to NarcoWorld. Who would have imagined it?

I wasn't surprised that JC had a trick up his sleeve. When he told Gina on Monday that Ignacio had gotten what he deserved but that she had nothing to worry about because she had been a good girl, it was clear that he was playing with her. The fact that she had left her baby and come to his hotel room was quite damning, at least in his eyes. For JC, nothing is worse than a bad parent, especially a bad mother.

Could the woman we saw with him on Tuesday be his mother?

Hombre said the other day that we knew JC wasn't gay. Maybe. I still think there's a sexuality issue. Maybe he's bi-. Maybe he was in love with a man. (It was no accident that he was reading 'Glamour' when Gina arrived at his hotel the night before.)

I also think that Vaitiare's presence in the studio was no accident. Maybe she will be a powerful rival to Erika. Maybe she can actually say a line or two, or move and talk at the same time. Poor Erika. The only thing more humiliating than being known as Sugar Lips might be being known as the has-been Sugar Lips.

I wish someone would hire Bob to take care of Irene...

Avenida Brasil – capitulo 2 – Tuesday, April 7

Beside Genesio’s body, Tifón agonizes about what to do. He repeats Carmen’s name over and over. Finally, he calls an ambulance but he leaves the scene as it arrives.

Tifón arrives at the celebration of the Divino win. He takes Monalisa aside and tells her what happened. He says that he feels an obligation to help the victim’s widow. Monalisa agrees.

Back at Genesio’s house, Carmina and Max break the door down. Rita won’t tell them where the money is. She is sure that her father will come back with the police. The police do arrive but to give Carmina the news that Genesio is dead. Poor little Rita’s smile of triumph crumples into tears. Rita yells over and over that Carmina is “mala,”” bad,” but Carmina tells the policeman that Rita is disturbed. Finally, Carmina locks Rita in her room. When the police leave, Carmina stops her grief performance and does a victory dance at her luck in getting rid of Genesio. Now all she and Max need to do is find where the money is hidden.

The next morning, Carmina pretends to make peace with Rita. She tells Rita that she has won. Carmina and Max are leaving. Rita can have the money. She and Max pretend to leave but sneak back and catch Rita getting the money out of its hiding place.

Carmina orders Max to take Rita to the “tiradero,” a giant garbage dump and leave her there with Nilo. Max obeys although he tells Carmina that he didn’t like doing it. Nilo lives in a shack in the tiradero and has a bunch of the children abandoned there who, in return for shelter and food, search the trash for items that can be sold. Poor Rita. She appears to be about 7 years old – very young to face such a trauma.

Tifón shows up at Genesio’s funeral where Carmina is reprising her grief performance for a few mourners. She recognizes him as a famous football star. He does not tell her that he was the one who hit Genesio, he says that he is an old friend of Genesio and heard about his death. He says that he wants to help Genesio’s widow.
Max is ready to hit the road to start their new life with the money from Genesio but Carmina is intrigued by the possibilities of a relationship with Tifón. She identifies the look in his eyes as guilt and figures out that he must have been driving the car that hit Genesio. Instantly, she decides to marry Tifón. Max is less than pleased at having to share his lover with another husband but Carmina thinks that she can get a lot more from being Tifón’s wife than they got from Genesio.

On the humorous front, Alexia, a woman facing her biological clock, comes into a bar talking to her shrink on a cell phone. She tells the shrink that at this moment she is at the most fertile point in her cycle. She desperately wants a child and she has come to find a sperm donor. Carlos Eduardo comes into the bar to recover from his near miss in encountering both his wives at once. Alexia picks him out, takes him home and they have wild sex all night. When he leaves the next morning, Carlos Eduardo mentions that he didn’t use a condom. “No worries,” replies Alexia, “I’m on the pill.” She doesn’t want a relationship – she just wants a baby (so far).

Has anybody recapped last night’s Avenida? If not, here it is in a nutshell (strictly from memory, so probably a little out of sequence; please fill in any blanks you please):

Carmina and Max go back to Genesio’s house where Rita is hiding out. She tries to escape out onto the roof. They search around for her. There’s a close call or two, but they finally leave in disgust. Rita climbs down and goes straight for the hidden money when, out of nowhere, Carminha grabs her in the act. (They’re going out was a decoy and unfortunately our little Rita fell for it).

Tifón finally gets to the victory celebration for his famous fútbol win; Monalisa is fit to be tied, but he drags her off into a private room and spills the beans about what happened out on Avenida Brasíl. Monalisa for all her innate shrewishness is very circumspect and supports Tifón’s desire to help out the widow of this guy he just ran over. Mona thinks things happen for a reason.

Meanwhile, Carlos Eduardo has narrowly escaped his two wives at the fancy restaurant. He heads out to another bar to calm his nerves, but doesn’t escape this other gal whose name I missed. She’s desperate to get pregnant and will do what it takes. I must have missed her backstory, but based on how she hooks our dupe of a Carlos into performing the act, she knows how to get the job done, including standing on her head once she’s got what she wants.

Back at Genesio’s former abode, Rita is handled roughly and dragged into the car by Max. She protests fiercely but is helpless. What is she all of 6 years old? Max delivers her to the hell on earth of a large dumping ground outside the city limits (similar to the Neza in Mexico, but evidently this is Rio’s version).

Our little Rita is stunned by her misfortune but has no choice but to comply with the boss’s orders. She’s put in with all the other children whose job it is pick the garbage when the trucks arrive in the middle of the night. A vivid, modern-day Dickensian nightmare. One of the girls shows her the ropes; but we can only guess what lies ahead for our heroine.

Carminha makes a big show of her grief at the cemetery. Tifón sees her there and finally makes his way to the object of his terrible guilt. He’s ashamed & afraid of getting caught for the hit & run, so his solution is to fake a former friendship with el difunto Genesio. He’s a wealthy man now and just wants to help the widow of his old buddy. The sly Carminha trips him up a couple of times, leading her to suspect the basis of his story. She doesn’t let on to Tifón, but instead starts to romance him through her pretended grief. Later, she tells Max, “sorry honey, I’m gonna marry that futból player”. Max ain’t happy. Carmina is after all the goodies the poor dupe has to offer.

That’s all I remember. I’m having trouble warming up to this show, and my schedule is crazy so I expect I’ll miss a bit. But glad to be watching something.

WOW! Jean, I'm so sorry. I jumped the gun. Thanks for your great recap.

No problem, LXV, we don't have a schedule and I didn't have time to post earlier.

Give this one time. It just gets better and better (and less dark, Doris).

Jean, thanks for the heads up about the future of this show. The darkness has gotten to me, too. They've given the bad guys such an advantage right out of the gate, it feels a bit hopeless. But I do enjoy the comic touches. Really hilarious.

Dueños

Thanks so much, Deb, for your usual terrific Tuesday Recap.

I wish I had time to comment, but getting ready to be gone for a while means everyone here tries to get blood out of the stone before she departs! So I'm buried in work.

I will say that I always love scenes where they do a real close up of Kate's face while she does an emotional scene. She's fabulous! And what she said to Conrado was perfect.

Thanks a million, Jean. And LXV as well. As I mentioned in my Dueños post, I'm getting ready for vacation next week and just about have NO time. So I can't sneak minutes away from my job to write blog posts.

whoa Brigitte Died??!!

I missed the episode but I have a theory anyway
I think she faked her death to get away from Valverde

The theory isn't based on anything but my own crazy brain
and not wanting Valverde to win
Besides who will protect her mom if she's dead?

Also I have a recap for Tuesday but it will take me a half an hour to type up and I can't tonight.
If you can wait till tomorrow I will do Tuesday and Wednesday in one shot
otherwise its up to somebody else

TIERRA

It would be great if you wrote it up. I don't know whether I'll get to it or not. I want to watch, but we're super super busy at work right now so I'm working late.

As to your theory...I love the idea of Brig being alive, but it looked pretty conclusive. The goons were right there. She was not in control of the situation AT ALL, unless somehow she convinced Valverde's trusty henchmen to help her fake it. They blew up the car that she was driving. Short of an EXTREMELY sneaky plan, I doubt there were even enough pieces of her to gather and bury. I hope they at least let her mother off the hook once they didn't need Brigitte anymore. I hope Valverde gets a super super horrible punishment. Mere death is not enough. He needs to suffer immensely. Maybe in the meantime, he and Veronica's horrid mother should get together? They are both terrible people.

I don't know that I want Nestor to get together with Cayetana. He's too good for her. Nestor and Soledad? She'd be lovely if she would stop being a doormat. And then he could be Vero's stepdad and a father figure for the Gallardo clan as well.

TIERRA

Oh, another thing I remembered from Monday's is that Isadora was trying to talk to Arturo again about the death of his parents and he commented on how she kept bringing it up. I mean, first of all, rude. It's not like someone has forgotten their loved ones after they die and they may want to talk about them, but if you were polite you maybe wouldn't lead with THEIR DEATHS. Maybe talk about them in some way that isn't directly related to their grisly untimely end. So Arturo's wondering why she's so interested in the subject.

sorry for the silly question, but is this thread the best place to follow AB ?
I've only ever been on here to follow Reina de Corazones, which I seem to remember as having its own thread..?

DUEÑOS, Miércoles

As I thought, now that Conrado has been given the heave-ho by Anas, he’s going to try to re-establish his relationship with Érika. However, it won’t be easy. He begins by saying that he really didn’t see anything with Adán and Érika in the pool. This has benefits for Adán, too, because later, Verónica seems to finally forgiven him, and they kiss. MAYBE they even made love, we didn’t see. How nice.

It won’t be so easy for Conrado, though. He goes to Érika’s film set, and despite all his charm, and his earnest smoothness, she WON’T forgive him (for being with Anas). He’s done this so many times, and now, it’s too late. The new girl, Vailarte or something like that, makes her presence known, too.

Meanwhile, Irene is serious about having Bob kill Érika. All she needs is the money, $50,000.00. She tells Bob it has to be TODAY, that Anas is about to kill herself, and that this will save her. She says Anas is totally in agreement (what a liar Irene is). But don’t tell her, or anyone else. Hmmm. Irene then tries to make nice with Renato, saying she needs some money, just, uh, $50,000.00, from the warehouse. Renato is suspicious, is it for Bob? No, it’s those people who are still pursuing me. And don’t tell anyone. Renato goes along with this, Irene does go to the warehouse, gets the money, and gives it to Bob in the car. He wants to make out with her in the car, but she’s not in the mood (and besides, Olmeda (is that his name?) is watching. Somehow, I have the sneaky feeling that Renato is watching all of this, and it won’t go the way Irene has planned. But who knows? Will Bob kill Érika today???

Conrado goes back to the mansion to pick up his stuff, and Irene hurls insult after insult at him, too. When he goes upstairs and packs his little suitcase (no rollers back in the 70's), Anas wants to talk to him. She very quietly, calmly tells him that she WILL NEVER FORGIVE HIM, and HE’LL BE SORRY. Nice.

In Chile, we see the evil guy (Orlando?) reminding Jorge and Gerardo he wants his cut. Analía is getting ready for her flight to the US, with drugs in her suitcase, along with Vanessa. Privately, Gerardo tells Analía that he’ll support her financially, as well as Tomás, but he has one request. She needs to contact associates of her husband Alejo in Miami, and set up a connection for the Chile guys to get the Alas de Mariposa cocaine. Analía gulps. Later she calls Conrado, tells him she has to meet with him in Miami, she’ll be there tomorrow, she can’t say what it is on the phone, but its’important. That night, Vanessa shows the others a little trick. She takes some cocaine, puts it in a bottle with some other liquids and coloring, and it becomes a blue liquid. She then puts this in a little spray bottle.

DUEÑOS, Part 2

The girls are dressed in their cute stewardess outfits, sky blue, with skirts to the knee, little caps, they look great. But when Jorge hears the name Conrado, who is a friend of Vanessa’s brother (and Analía’s husband) Alejo, he gets mad at Vanessa, accusing her of cheating on him with Conrado (which maybe she did in the past!). Things are smoothed over, though, and the flight arrives in Miami. Analía and Vanessa are waiting for their suitcases (packed with coke in a secret compartment) to arrive on the carrousel, and some drug sniffing dogs are sniffing. A cop pulls the girls over, you’ll have to come with us. But behind her back, Vanessa has been using that little bottle of blue solution, spritzing someone else’s suitcase. The dogs start barking for the other suitcase, the cop goes after it, and the ladies quickly grab their bags, walking out of the airport just as fast as their high heels will allow.

Iggy tells Paola to forget about him, he doesn’t want her compassion. Of course she tells him she loves him, none of that matters. He makes her swear never to tell Leandro about his private parts, and Paola won’t, but knows that Leandro’s no dummy.

Gina and José Carlos sleep together again, he says he’ll protect her. But we know he’s got some secret agenda going.

Riquelme and Ferrara have a little spat, Riquelme isn’t happy about Ferrara’s violent interrogations, which aren’t working anyway. Silvana shows up, she wants to talk to Riquelme. But Ferrara won’t allow it, and cautions Riquelme, makes him leave, tells Silvana if you have something to say, tell ME. Silvana hesitates, then drops a small leather bound notebook on the table, saying this is my father’s diary. Wow! You can have it, for all it’s worth. I never really thought much about it until recently, and I read a little, and it tells about all his relationships. Ferrara’s eyes light up as he reads the words of Nataniel Cardona, that Anastasia has to be watched, there are lots of rumors about her infidelity. It’s understandable, as she had such a tough upbringing. Ferrara is eating this up! Rita comes in, spills coffee, JUST MISSING the notebook. After the other cops leave, Ferrara tells Silvana, there is something you can do. You know Adán? Silvana does, of course, she’s met him. Well, he’s the most upright of the whole cartel, I want you to get to know him better. (!!!)

Everyone please feel free to add and correct. We haven’t had much action for a few days, but things seem to be about to explode again!

Dueños

your recaps are so smooth Hombre!

interesting scene with Vanessa, oh yes Conrado, how could I forget as she gets a dreamy look, this sets Jorge off and he hits her, Analia jumps in and stops it, he turns on her and... pow,
nope,
Gerardo is behind her back frantically waving his arms for Jorge to knock it off , and he does (because this would have blown their cocaine deal) and he is suddenly the gentleman.

hmm, I was waiting for the drug dog to go after Vanessa and her sprayer.

It sounded like they keep their cash locked in the basement of the Perfume shop, isn't that what Irene asked Renato, if he had the key, hmm, I too like NovelaMaven's idea, "I wish someone would hire Bob to take care of Irene...", and Bob is quite the business man, show me the money.

so who do we pay to get rid of Bob?

wow, Nataniel's diary, who knew he could write, and I sometimes picture his coffin floating around the glades in the morning mist, (unless those poachers grabbed it)

judging from the tv Silvana was watching I'm thinking they are confusing the late 70's with earlier times, at least it was color.

there is something odd about Ferrara's obsession with Anas, (was he looking over pics of her with a sad look on his face), and he seemed to like being close to her, forcing her about, hmm, and he is definitely driving a wedge between Riquelme and Silvana, well she is a Cardona, but he seems to have soften toward her since she handed him the diary, even did a sympathetic don't think we will find anything on Elias, sorry, and now he ponders Adan, who is squeaky clean, he already went after the kids.

Dueños

Thanks, Hombre. Great recap. Analia did look smashing in her uniform. I was surprised the skirt was so long though.

I think Analia is dumb to be back in Miami, but this does make me more interested in the Chile side story.

Bob must’ve been high, trying to get it on with Irene in the car in front of Olmeda and his men.

Olmeda made me smile, a cane-walking enforcer. Makes him look more distinguished.

Hmmm, there shouldn’t be anything incriminating Anas in the diary since she didn’t get involved in the business till after Cardona died.

Not liking Ferrara at all. He got Elias killed, now he's asking Silvana to chum up to Adán. He is not the kind of cop who feels protective of his informant.

Dueños

Finally, a tiny moment to write a comment. Thanks a million, Hombre, love your snarky comments.

Iggy full well knows that he's useless to LQ if he can't give him the grandchildren he wants, much less be the enforcer any more. He wants Paola to keep this quiet; but, I agree, that won't work.

I'm rooting for Silvana to get Rodrigo. Gina has NOT been the greatest mom. She had her chance when she got him back to disappear, but she preferred revenge. Now she leaves the kid she desperately wanted to sneak off to JC's hotel room for some sex. And I don't think Anas is the right person, even though she wants him.

Conrado, WAA! He shows up with the sh**-eating grin and a carnation. A carnation, really? to try to woo Érika. It seems like she isn't buying it.

Yep, those stewardess (back then they didn't say flight attendant) outfits were seriously cute. Gerardo is really a pretty disgusting guy. He's asking Analía to not only mule drugs but to contact her ex's old group to try to buy product. This will not end well. Alejo is furious with her for absconding with his children. Of course, we don't know if Conrado and Adán are in contact with him to let him know she's coming.

I was sort of stunned when Ferrara told Riquelme not to marry his fiancée. It's the first sign of humanity he's demonstrated. He knows about his feelings for Silvana.

Deb, I agree. Ferrara's obsession with Anastasia is vaguely sexual. Plus, Leandro Quezada doesn't even raise his pulse rate.

I think all the actors are excellent, Conrado is doing the lying, cheating, mujeriego perfect, great facial expression. He is not a BAD guy, just into himself. I can see him dieing to save Erika.

Tuesday April 7 part 1
(note to readers I may not have everything in strict chronological order, and sometimes I miss bits. If I have confused anyone I apologize in advance)
(also, I'm trying to translate dialogue, but its easier for me to give the gist rather than a word for word translation)

The general says he won't allow Caye and Leo to be together (though really what can he do?) and storms out.
Just then Irina calls Caye to tell her Sophia is in the hospital about to give birth. Caye leaves for the hospital and Leo goes in for the kiss - she says not now and leaves- Leo hisses to himself not now but soon and for the rest of your life;). Actually he is saying how he will soon be owner of everthing and will finally get some respect.

Cayetana could actually do worse! Valverde is still obsessed with her and wants her and her stuff too.

The doctor leaves Sam with conflicting messages: that all this is normal for Bea's condition and that Sam should really talk to his wife about her illness

At the hospital all three of the girls are frantic but only one of them is in labor, and of course when Caye comes in Arturo gets the blame for Sophia going in to labor early -(only like two weeks though)

Vero broke up w/her novio, and her mom, and needs a place to crash. Flavio says hey you're family, you can stay here as long as you want. She wants to know how Pablo is - he's fine though you did hurt him. Arturo walks in, she wants him to know she followed his advice (and everybody else's) and followed her heart, and she wants to find Pablo and tell him she'll marry him. When she leaves the room Flavio tells Arturo he is worried Pablo won't forgive her and he's moved on w/Rocio

The general rolls in to the kitchen and wants to toast to his first great-grandson. Pablo and Rocio want to toast to them staying on working there as a married couple soon (ugh)

Nestor is remembering Brigitte fondly 'there will never be another like you', when Caye calls him up to threaten Arturo through him. Nestor tells her not to use him as a middle man - she can threaten Art in person- and tells her that Art has a right to see his son that she can't abrogate. Caye of course won't hear it.

Sam tells his bros about Bea's attack and they are as confused and worried as he is, but when Vero comes in, they all cheer up, then Irina texts Flavio and he tells Arturo that Sophia is in labor - to the hospital!-

Tuesday part 2
In the delivery room
The cord is wrapped around the baby's neck and he is in the wrong position and the docs are worried about both the mother and baby's chances. Sophia says do whatever you need to get my baby here alive and if I die let his father Arturo Gallardo have him!
The doc wants to give it some time and see how things progress maybe they can resolve things naturally- without surgery
It looks like they're going to have to do a c-section and Sophia says whatever just save the baby and she wants Art there and she passes out..

In the waiting room
Caye knows in her mother's heart that something is wrong - right then Arturo arrives
Caye and the two girls face off w/ the boys and its all 'you'll get kicked out'
'no you'll get kicked out'
'no I'll have you kicked out'
And in the delivery room the baby has shifted position and the cord isn't around his neck anymore and everything will be ok - except the ongoing fight in the waiting room

Meanwhile

Rocio comes to Pablo's room to give him a good night kiss and more

The "help" are about to smother Bea w/a pillow when Sole comes in and is all what are you doing here and they are all what are you doing here and she doesn't trust them and they don't trust her and its knives out all around. (no actual knives were used in this scene)

Vero slips into Pablo's room to give him the good news and interrupts his lovemaking w/Rocio - awkwardness and Rocio's justifications, and the knowledge that Pablo & Rocio are getting married ensue.
Vero leaves and Pablo & Rocio fight - then Rocio leaves ' I need to be alone right now'
Pablo agonizes alone
Sam calls Sole to let her know about Sophia and check in on Bea
Heartbroken Vero shows up @ Bea's to seek solace in Sole's arms
Her other mother meanwhile, never wants to see her again and is fulminating all over the house - she will cut her off, how could Vero do this to her, ect. Dario says he's moving out too and she will be all all alone from now on so there

In the delivery room
Sophia is having a hard labor and the baby's heartbeats are getting slower and she can't go on
and Arturo arrives and is just the help and support she needs. He tells her she is doing perfect and she can do it and he will always taked care of his son no matter what happens

In the waiting room of never forgiving Caye swears that her nieto will never have anything to do w/los Gallardos which elicits the predictable response from the boys (I get tired of all the fighting so I'm not giving a blow by blow each time)

Elsewhere Leo & Sidepiece plot and plan (nothing too critical, just we will win, they will lose, got to separate A&S, ect.)
and share an interlude that doesn't go as far as she wants, before Leo walks out saying he has a better game afoot

The baby is born !

Tierra

Weds part 1

Sam & Andrea are fighting (as usual) when they bring out the baby and they oohh and ahh over him till they start fighting over who he looks like (sigh) He calls her a witch, she calls him a pig as per usual

Nestor warns Caye off messing w/Art's parental rights and she's not impressed but she does say she's sorry about Brigitte

Vero tells Sole all her troubles and Sole counsels her not to give up on Pablo. Later she seems to have ignored this advice but who knows with her

People can go in and see Sophia! But not all at once. The girls are going in 'ladies first' when Caye comes along and pulls rank and bumps Irina. Caye tells the boys they better not be there when she gets back

In Sophia's room she is telling Arturo she won't prevent him from seeing his son and they are having a sweet parental moment when Caye flies in on her broom and kicks Art out.
When Sophia tells her she's naming the baby Arturo, Caye is livid - she will never accept that and Andrea thinks they all get a say on naming the baby and gets slapped down verbally by Sophia. The baby's name will be Arturo Ignacio and that's final (poor baby)
Confronted with all this stubborn resistance Caye brings up Sidepiece and Art's supposed relationship w/her
Irina sticks up to her mom 'Sophia doesn't need all this static right now guys' and gains some breathing room till they bring in the baby and they all goe gaga over 'nuestro bebe' (seriously said that - our baby- if I was Sophia I'd be pissed. I'd be all 'oh so which ones of *'we'* just went through labour for *'our baby'*?')
Irina does another good turn by convincing her mom to leave the hospital for the night.

in the waiting room
Art shares Sophia's change of attitude w/his bros and the boys rejoice over the good news
Nestor tries to warn Art about what he's in for w/Caye as mother in law in all but name. Art thinks Caye will be staying w/Sophia tonight so he's going home.

Elsewhere

Matamoros intros Pati @ some club where he needs to speak in English but she still sings in Spanish (?) She's got lots of fans
Matamoros ogles the gal taking publicity photos and the crowd gest out of control, taking Pati on an impromptu crowd surfing expedition she doesn't seem to be enjoying. After she is extricated she flounces off and sings no more (for the night, not forever, I don't think)

Weds part 2
Sidepiece is talking to her father in her cups about how she totally hates Leo
Dad thinks maybe she shouldn't have stopped psychiatric treatment (looney alert!)
She talks about "getting rid of" Sophia and now he's sure she should see a shrink stat

Sam gives Sole the baby news and she gives him the Pablo+Rocio news and a heads up on the creepy "help" with a pillow over an asleep Bea scene. He's all yeah they're creepy but they've been working for her forver so what can ya do.

Bea has woken up and confesses to Sam that she's dying - the heart that loves him so much can't keep beating for much longer.
Sam wants to know why she kept this from him. At first she says because she knows he's already lost too many people he loves, but then she fesses up and tells him she didnt want to lose him, - because who wants to be with an old dying lady- and she also didn't want him to stay w/her because he felt sorry for her.
He asks her how could you think that of me and she says its not because she didn't trust him she just doesn't want her final day s filled with pity- so he can't tell anyone else.

Sophia's asleep but she's got her hand resting on the baby like he's going to disappear while she sleeps (which being that this is a tn - there's a pretty good chance) (fingers crossed not though cause that really turns me off)
Andrea wakes up and where is Irina here is her crumpled blanket but she's gone
Irina's w/Flavio in the cafeteria flirting. When Andrea walks in there's a funny scene where Irina's trying to get Flavio out w/o Andrea seeing him; whispering that he should amscray and Andrea is all 'why are you talking to yourself? and Irina goes 'I'm not, I'm trying to get the waiter over here' (wait, hospital cafeterias have waiters?) and just then Flavio comes back in the uniform of a waiter and now Andrea's trying to summon him and he has his hat pulled down and is talking (flirting) to the girls at the next table so he can keep his back to Andrea, and first Andrea, and then when she sees the girls flirting back, Irina gets steamed over his spending so much time over there. So he finally just says 'smile you're on candid camera' to the girls @the next table and hotfoots it out

Crazy!Sidepiece sneaks into Sophia's room, and now when she should be holding on, Sophia's let go of the kid so that Sidepiece can just go and pick him up (creepy) Baby doesn't like craxy lady and starts to fuss as Sidepiece thought bubbles that Sophia isn't her problem; it's the baby she's got to get rid of.
Sophia wakes up and is understandably freaked out, and wants her baby back
Sidepiece pretends to be sane (not very well IMO she's still way creepy) and is all hey what's the problem I was just meeting the baby of the man I love
Sophia is all whatever just stay away from me and my kid.

and that's it

( I apologize if I have offended anyone with my facetious take on Sidepiece's mental health issues - I do understand that mental illness isn't funny - its just ... I just hate her, so much )

I'm not sure about the day's I missed but I haven't seen Leo say anything specific about his plans for the general, or as he calls him, Sancho Panza, just basically that he's going to take over the ranch more than he has already and vague threats

I don't really have a problem with Cayetana and Leo being together - they kind of deserve each other- and since Caye is choosing to be with Leo and has such outmoded ideas of proper gender roles, and he wants to rule everything, they might do well together.

Julia - darn it ! I was really hoping for a plan where Nestor and Brigitte were going to bring down Valverde from a direction he didn't even suspect

I'm holding out hope that Nestor will solve Brigitte's murder now

and I still have a little tiny hope for that EXTREMELY sneaky plan you spoke of

DUEÑOS – JUEVES

Sorry, all. I completely ran out of time to get ready for my trip to Colorado. So below are simply some highlights to stimulate conversation.

Silvana agrees to approach Adán for Ferrara.

Erika lies to Conrado, saying she doesn’t have a thing for Adán.

Analía begs Vanessa not to tell anyone she’s in Miami, but lies and says she didn’t rat out Alejo.

Daisy smuggles Rodrigo out of LQ’s house in a carry-on bag. But Gina comes home just then, fights for her baby and eventually kills Daisy and the driver Renato arranged.

Anastasia has taken some pills and we see her submerge herself in the bathwater

Linda Barragán shows up and tells Vero she’s there for “feminine solidarity” but tells her about sleeping with her husband. Adán comes home. At first he tries to lie, but has to admit it. Delusional Linda says he’ll love her some day as they throw her out.

Vanessa, Analía and Conrado have a poolside chat. Vanessa tells him they want Alas de Mariposa.

Erika and Vero go to the beach together, but Bob Venegas is following them. We see him kill Cerro, the guard Delia is so fond of.

Vanessa goes to see Alejo in prison. Alejo is happy to see her, but furious when Conrado looms up behind her. He calls him a coward and says that they’re all going to fall.

After Gina leaves the room LQ tells JC that he knows how much La Cardona wants the baby, and this has value, can be traded for something.

Anas survived after Renato gave her CPR. In the hospital she seems to have forgiven Irene and says she’ll never leave her. She doesn’t really admit she tried suicide; just says she wanted to sleep.

We see Erika and Vero at the beach. We also see Bob and his high-powered rifle. We don’t see a shot. Vero wonders why Erika wanted this day; Erika isn’t the type who hangs out with women friends. After Vero tells her about Linda, Erika says she knows exactly the day she stopped loving Conrado: the day the Romeros arrived in Miami. She tells Vero she’s in love with Adán.

DUENOS:

Novelera, even with the short recap, you captured just about everything. Great job! Have a nice trip.

One of the things Ferrara wants to find out is who were the Pajaritos' clients, just the Cardonas, or others?

I thought it funny when Erika said to Conrado, do you want me to tell you that Adan doesn't turn me on? Okay, he doesn't. (Hah!)

This was not a great day for our Cardona group, what with Daisy getting killed, the baby not kidnapped, Anas almost dying and Bob with his sights on Erika.

Gina was upset that she had killed two people, but Leandro doesn't mind at all, it's just business. His later comment to Jose Carlos that we all have a price was very cold. Is he going to kill Gina, offer Anas the baby, in return for her drug routes?

You could see the attraction between Vanessa and Conrado, they must have had something in the past. And Conrado is ready to renew it. Although Vanessa says aren't you married, Conrado pretty much dismisses that. What a guy.

The props on this show are amazing, taking us back to the 70's. I noticed a reel to reel tape recorder in the Chilean guys' place, and the clocks, telephones, etc., all remind me of things that were popular then.

Erika and Veronica are wearing the exact same bathing suit! Could Bob shoot the wrong one??

AVENIDA B

Wee Rita--Great new name. It'll be a pleasure to use it. I was also doing a double take on the physical fitness of Tifon. You'd think the casting director never attended a Fifa Cup game. Those guys are fit!

About the single thread. Fewer people watch these three-at-time Telemundo tns and the number of recaps and comments don't go over 200 in any week. Reina de Corazones was an aberration, so a little later on Reina got her own headline on the front page, once there was so much chatter about it. I think more recently, when a Telemundo tn goes into ultimas semanas, they are sometimes given their own headline on the front page. We'll wait and see how this one goes for watchers.

My random thoughts were also on how depressing and irredeemable this is starting out. I'm glad Jean says it gets better. I'm already tired of the darkness and the rain.

THANK YOU, Jean and LXV for the recaps. I guess I'm following it pretty well. The dubbed Spanish isn't bothering me as much as I thought it would. But, I'm tired of Carmhina already! Max seems to be a grifter with a heart of gold, but definitely under Carm's control.

The actress playing Rita, for someone so young, has a wide range of emotions and a perfect delivery. I guess we're supposed to see her all grown up, so I'll miss her.

I've been away for almost two weeks, and so I missed all the episodes until this Wednesday. Many thanks to all the recappers and commenters who made it possible for me to keep up while I was away.

Hombre, thanks for your explanation (in this Wednesday's recap) about Vanessa and the blue spray. I had no idea why she was spraying it like crazy at the baggage carrel.

Novelera, thanks for the short but fine recap on Thursday. I don't know how you managed to squeeze it into your schedule, nor how you managed to hit all the major events so succinctly.

Deb, I loved your "so who do we pay to get rid of Bob?" Count me in to contribute.

Hombre, I too noticed that Vero and Erika were wearing identical bathing suits and have very similar builds, and so I too wondered whether Bob was going to hit the wrong woman. Guess we'll find out tonight.

Yes, as several others have noted, Ferrara does seem somehow strangely obsessed with Anas (and not at all with LQ). Perhaps it's a carry-over from the very close relationship between Teresa and Oleg in "La Reina del Sur" :-). Ferrara's obsession also reminded me a little of FBI agent Willy's obsession with drug lord Teresa (in LRDS).

I think you are onto sth. Vero gets shot by mistake, angering Adan against Anas & Silvana is able to talk him into working with the police.

Dueños

wow, terrific recap novelera, you got it all!

sorry to see Daisy go, she really didn't have much of a part but she was such a happy person.

I can see why Linda is single, and wow, just when it looked like Adan and Vero have made up and slept together.

so I guess no one has gone to see Alejo in prison, and his tiff with Conrado kept Vanessa from finding out that Analia ratted on him.

and so Alejo gets Marcelo for a cellmate.

the bathing suits were odd, but what I noticed is that they were both white (a good contrast to blood red) and they were both lined up in Bob's sights.

Hombre, I liked the pinball machine in the Chilean office.

Avenida Brasil - Thursday partial

I only got to see the last half of Thursday's capitulo because I hadn't set my VCR - ;-(

Rita has incurred the wrath of Nilo. I think she bought food with money from the stuff she collected in the tiradero instead of giving it to Nilo. Anyway, Nilo bribes one of the other children into ratting her out. Rita escapes from Nilo's house and tries to hide in the tiradero in the pouring rain.

She is found by Batata, who, and I don't think this is a spoiler, will be the love of her life. He lives with Mama Lucinda, the guardian angel of children in the tiradero, in a house constructed of items found in the dump but an attractive way. However, Mama Lucinda only has resources to help 12 children at a time and she is full up. Batata tries to bring Rita food on the sly but Mama Lucinda catches him. He threatens to leave Mama Lucinda's with Rita if she doesn't allow Rita to stay at her place. Mama Lucinda relents.

Carmina continues her conquest of Tifon. She gets him to lie down on her bed with her telling him that she is too grief-stricken to get in her late husband's wife. Meanwhile, Monalisa is waiting for Tifon at a hotel to celebrate their engagement. Carmina kisses Tifon and then has sex with him! Afterwards, he is horrified and tells her that this must never happen again. He arrives terribly late at the hotel where Monalisa is waiting. Monalisa is already angry and then she smells the scent of another woman on him and storms out saying it is over between them.

Avenida Brazil

if you want to see a youger/fitter Tifon (Murilo Benício) he plays Lucas on the original El Clon (what?) which is being shown during the day.

the young Rita is what really pulled me into this story.

that and how intent Carminha is in carving out her place in the world, and pretty clever at it, what will it take to get rid of her? (a cast of thousands)

ah, thanks Jean! (wasn't that Wednesday's show?)

last night we found out both Carminha (from Max) and MonaLisa (from Tifon) are pregnant.

AVENIDA B
Jean--Even though it's heartbreaking, I had to watch everything Rita.

The dark-skinned girl (without offending anyone, what would one call her, she's not African-American, or does that encompass both continents...), became Rita's mentor and friend. She showed Rita how to scavenge for valuable trash. She also showed her how she hid some of the money she got for her trash before she handed it over to Nilo.

He discovered that she had palmed some money and wouldn't give her anything to eat. She was lying down unable to work and Nilo didn't care. He was punishing her. Rita gave her some water and then palmed some of her own payments to buy food for AA girl.

There were some tense moments when Nilo was trying to find out who gave her the food. When Rita didn't volunteer, AA pointed her out. That's when Rita ran.

I could have soooo predicted that weak-willed, spineless and dumb-ass Tifon was going to lie down with Carm and she was going to take it from there.

I feel sorry for Monalisa because she's not going to believe for one minute that Genesio fathered Carm's child (which is what I think she is planning to do). I like Monalisa. Why do Tifon's parents hate her so much? She works hard for a decent living, saving up to open her own shop.

I don't know if what follows is from Wednesday or Thursday, but I remember Tifon agreed to put up 1/2 of what Monalisa needed to get her own salon started. That was proof to his parents that she was just a golddigger. She tried to turn down his offer, but they finally kind of left it as maybe a long-term loan, or to shorten the time she would have to take to save up the other half. I think Tifon was feeling guilty that he was buying the widow a house and he wasn't giving his fiancée anything.

Oh, we were left with a cliff hanger, when Carm calls Tifon in the middle of his engagement party and "pretended" she was about to commit suicide he leaves the party telling the maid he was going to get wine. He rushes to the apartment (he has Carm living there--because she had to move out of Genesio's--until the new house is ready for her), finds the door open, and "saves" her.

When Monalisa gets tired of waiting for him to come back to the party, she gets the info from the maid that the call was really from Carm and it was an emergency, she heads for the apt, finds the door open, and....finds him there, was it with Carm in his arms? Can't remember that part.

TIERRA

Sneaky two shoes, thanks for the thorough update. Sofia should have had her mother banned from the hospital. She had enough stress without all her mom's drama to add to it. Although I suppose having her escorted out would just make her more mad and cause more problems later. But I'm getting really really tired of Cayetana's attitude toward the Gallardos and her attempts to control her daughters.

Hate that Sofia named the baby Arturo. Why do telenovela characters have so little imagination with names for their children? They're either naming them after an immediate family member, or refusing to do so out of pique and picking another random close family member to name them after. Never ever do they seem to think maybe the kid should get its own name. Well, maybe very rarely.

So Sidepiece has psychiatric issues, eh? The only surprise there is that her father thinks she should get help for her murderous ambitions.

Veronica sure picked a perfect moment to try to swoop back into Pablo's life. Yikes. Although I like her, I think she deserved that. She did hurt Pablo a great deal when she left him for really stupid reasons. I think she still doesn't appreciate just how wrong her behavior was. She still expects him to be there waiting for her forever.

Dueños

Thanks, Novelera. You are amazing getting all the vitals in. Have a fabulous vacation!

Loved tiny Vero literally shoving Linda (she's a pilot, right?) out of her house.

Kind of weird that Érika seemed to say she fell in love with Adán as soon as he and Vero moved in. I don’t see it that way. IMHO she fell in love with the husband-wife relationship that Adán and Vero had back then.

Well, we know Bob is a good shot and both women aren’t in white for nothing. They’re very different, but I like both of them, so I hope Bob gets interrupted somehow.

I don’t blame Alejo one bit. Conrado was his childhood friend and should’ve done better by him.

I wish the writers had thought to give us more of Ferraro on his off hours. Have we even seen him alone in his flat or talking on the phone to his wife and newborn (still in NYC I presume)?

I like Vanessa’s free spirit, though not the drug smuggling. No way would she have missed an opportunity back in the day to bed Conrado. She seems genuinely happy to see Alejo.

Julia ITA about the baby names but IRL or at least in my real life it seems to be the same. Most of the people I know are re-using the same old names over and over again and it gets so confusing with a bajillion grandkids running around with the same name or some variation of it.

I have a recap for Thurs
but since I don't know if I'll see tonight's ep, it would be great if someone else could recap it

Tierra de Reyes Thursday 4/9
part 1
Pati & Matamoros fight (have to confess I didn't really pay attention 'cause I don't care about what)

Fallout from Sidepiece's hospital visit - Irina feels guilty for leaving Sophia alone to go flirt w/Flavio (she probably should since she's still hiding, even from Sophia, that she & Flavio are back together)

Caye & Leo do the horizontal rumba (nuff said) (some may think too much said already)

Sam spent the night away from the house & Bea is worried, just as she is about to send up flares, he walks in and apologizes for making her worry. As far as I can tell he says he spent all night outdoors searching the heavens for answers and fell asleep. He brings flowers that Bea loves and they make a pact to live their love fully and happily as long as they can

Arturo chides Flavio for burning breakfast - Flavio says it was done with love. Apparently Sam was the one who did all the housework and washing and most of the cooking and without his favorite slave (his words) Flavio is having a hard time picking up the slack.
Even Flavio (not the most sensitive man alive) has figured out that Andrea picks on Sam because she's secretly in love with him
Art made a cradle for the baby.
Alma finds a picture of Vero - no wait that's not right- flip it around.
Vero wonders how they can look so similar w/o being related .... the sound of crickets chirping as the boys miss a wonderful opportunity to say 'hey we wondered the same thing so we had a DNA test done and guess what?'
Juana comes to congratulate Art on the baby

Rocio barges in to Caye's room and catches her in bed w/Leo and backs out quick
Leo sees her Caye doesn't (I think)
Leo asks if Caye has regrets - she doesn't - later, alone, she thought bubbles that she feels like a new woman
Vero's mom calls to talk to Caye and is surprised she's not up yet - Rocio blames it on the baby- Vero's mom asks if Vero has been there and when told Vero visited last night says she will visit in person later on, thought bubbling that guy will hear from me now
Rocio tells Nieves about the Sodom & Gomorra upstairs - Nieves is suitably appalled

Sophia is being released from the hospital
Arturo calls to tell her about his gift - the cuna = cradle
Of course she will accept it (dark clouds on the horizon, abuela will have a fit)

Tierra
Thurs part 2
Pablo comes into the kitchen looking to make up and out with Rocio
Just as they are kissing Leo slithers in (man that guy has the timing of the devil) and sends Pablo out to the stables to "tell the horses which are girls and which are boys" (It doesn't make much sense to me either, unless he's just messing w/him)
First Leo tells Rocio that fraternizing is prohibited between the employees and when Rocio says 'I never heard that rule before, but Pablo and I are engaged and if I have to quit to keep him I will', he says he'll make an exception for her as long as she doesn't tell anyone what she saw that morning, and then tells her she has bad taste.
Leo sends Rocio upstairs w/a rose on Caye's breakfast tray. Caye is in a spectacularly good mood. She says she's raising the house staff's wages 50% and gives Rocio a bottle of presumably expensive perfume and when she finds out Rocio & Pablo are getting married says they can have one of the cabins
Rocio is stunned and tells Nieves the boss isn't herself, she seems like someone else, someone nicer.

The general has figured out with whom Cayetana spent the night and is disappointed in her

Sophia brings the baby home and introduces him to his great-grandfather and incidentally Pablo who has come in to tell her some guys just brought a cradle.
Art put a card on it so there's no keeping everyone(Caye) from finding out its a present from him.
Caye doesn't want that thing in her house- family fight- Caye & Andrea & Leo vs Sophia & Irina
Sophia wins

Sidepiece calls Art; easily pleased that he (unlike me) remembers her name.
Arturo isn't pleased that she visited the Sophia and the baby at the hospital, he says she has no business there
Chastened, she basically says 'oh well good luck with everything bye'

Leo & Cayetana plot to make Sophia disappointed in Art and get her to move far away - somehow. In service of this, Cayetana makes a mysterious phone call.

Pati & Matamoros fight again. This time about Sam; apparently the model Pati chose for her music video looks just like Sam & Matamoros is jealous

Luckily when Vero's mom arrives in the kitchen looking for Pablo, to chew him out, he and Rocio are kissing; leading neatly into the 'I'm not dating your daughter 'cause I'm marrying Rocio, so please don't have me beaten up, or fired, or whatever other horrible thing you were planning to do to me', conversation.
When Pablo finds out Vero didn't go home after finding him in bed w/Rocio, he calls Flavio to find out if she's ok
Flavio basically tells him 'dude you better not hurt my sister, and in fact man you should just stay away from her' without, of course, saying that Vero is his sister. I think he just says she's important to him, very important.

Sophia & Irina chat about the cuna & the possibilities of Sophia & Arturo getting back together. Irina is for it.
Arturo calls to make sure Sophia got the gift and to whisper sweet nothings into the phone (though with his voice its more like growling sweet nothings) till she panics and hangs up.

Valverde cavorts in a pool with various bathing beauties. Cayetana arrives for their meeting and is not amused (no, I didn't know they had a meeting scheduled either)

Vero was not made for mopping and clearly has no idea how its supposed to work
Pablo arrives to talk to her, in clear defiance of Flavio's orders

Bea and Art talk about how everything is fine and that Bea would like to see the baby
Sidepiece arrives in full stalker mode

Sophia is remembering how helpful Art was during the delivery and rocking her baby when Leo slides in to "put things in order" whatver that means, it sounds menacing.
end

Avenida Brasil - Thursday - a few more details

Thanks, Anita, and yes my previous minicap was for Wednesday's capitulo.

Tifón and Monalisa reconciled after she found out that he had slept with Carmina. An engagement celebration is planned and Monalisa’s family comes to attend. Part of the fun of this novela is seeing interactions between the different social classes. Doña Muricy, Tifón's mother, does not want him to marry Monalisa but Leleco, his father, doesn’t have any problem with her. Muricy calls Monalisa an immigrant because she is from Paraiba province near Recife, and is obviously a hick. She is also contemptuous of Monalisa's relations when they arrive. Later we will see the fashionable Rio dwellers being snobby about the denizens of suburban Divino.

Tifón does invest in a hair straightening salon that Monalisa opens and that is a big success. His sister Ivana is the accountant.

As was mentioned earlier, Monalisa finds out she is pregnant and so does Carmina - the latter's baby being Max's.

At the tiradero, Mama Lucinda is in bad with a cold but she sends Rita out to play with Batata and enjoy their childhood while they can. Rita and Batata explore and find a house with a little pool (who would want to live right next to a giant dump? but whatever.) They play house and Batata asks Rita to marry him. Rita replies that children can't get married but Batata insists that they can.

Carlos Eduardo finds out that Alexia got pregnant from their hookup. She says that she doesn’t want a relationship – just a baby. Carlos Eduardo also has problems with his two wives. Noemia usually goes to Nepal to meditate on New Year’s eve but she is concerned about the warnings about what might happen on the millennium (remember all the year 2K warnings?). CE was going to go to the Maldives with Veronica for New Years but now Noemia expects him to do something with her.

Finally, as Anita mentioned, Carmina executes a plan to break up Tifón and Monalisa and it works perfectly as such plans always do when the baddies have their way at the beginning of a novela. Carmina calls Tifón just as Monalisa is going to announce that she is pregnant. Carmina basically threatens suicide and Tifón agrees to go the apartment he rented for her. Then Max calls Tifón’s house and lets Monalisa know where he is. She catches them together and blabs that it was Tifón’s car that hit Genesio. Monalisa tells Tifón that it is over between them. She decides to go back to Paraiba with her family. Tifón gets to the bus station just too late.

ARGH why won't the Gallardos tell Veronica that she is their sister? Have they learned NOTHING? They still haven't realized that the longer they keep a secret, the more angry people will be? They should have told her right away when they found out. Sure, it would be a little shocking to her, but she should know. Why do they always have to be so cagey and shady? Especially when the topic comes up and they have no good reason not to spill! No, even then, they instinctively lie. I'm not so convinced they're the good guys.

DUEÑOS, Viernes

At the beach, Verónica does not react well to Érika's declaration that she's in love with Adán. Érika hastens to add that although she loves Adán, nothing has ever happened between them, and nothing ever will, because Adán loves Vero. “Well, why are you even telling me this?” says Vero, exasperated. You always act like the little innocent victim, but you're really just a slut, turning on people's husbands with your sexy, little girl ways, then pretending you didn't know.” But Vero, replies Érika, I'm telling you because you're my friend. No, I'm not, and I don't want to have anything more to do with you!

Bob has been watching the two ladies through his high powered scope, getting ready to shoot Érika. He takes a little break to go back to the car where he killed Cerro, and grabs the skin mag Cerro was reading, flipping to the centerfold of Érika. He'll keep this for fun after the job is done. He goes back to his hiding place, it's time to shoot. As was pointed out yesterday, the two ladies are wearing identical bathing suits, and with their arguing, they keep switching position. Sure enough, Bob accidentally shoots Vero, one shot through the back, she slumps to the ground, blood running out of her mouth!

Bob calmly gets back in the car and drives off unnoticed. Érika freaks out, trying to get the attention of some passers by (no cell phones then, of course), help, help! She finally gets to a pay phone, begs a guy for some coins, and calls Adán.

Silvana had started her new “job” of getting info from Adán, and was visiting him. She flat out says she wants information from him, since she's trying to find out what happened to her brother Elias. It all sounds fishy to me, and I don't think Adán is buying it either, but then he gets the call, Vero was shot!

Meanwhile, Anas is going to be discharged from the hospital where she was taken after swallowing those sleeping pills, and of course it's the same hospital where Iggy is. As Paola goes to the ladies room, Anas enters and starts tormenting Iggy, hey man, you missing something down there? Iggy is furious, vows to kill her, when Paola comes back, get away from my husband! What'cha gonna do about it? shoots back Anas, and when Paola lunges at her, Anas easily twists her around, gets her in a headlock, then throws her across the room into some hospital equipment. She does this a few times, until Paola is on the ground, then KICKS her. Iggy lunges, falls out of the bed, can't do anything, so Anas kicks him, too! She gets HIM in a headlock, tells Paola it's NOTHING compared to the seven hours Iggy spent raping her. She leaves both of them crumpled on the ground.

Leandro tells Gina it's strange that she had hired Daisy who used to be the babysitter with Anas, but Gina doesn't answer why. Leandro then tells Gina that it's good they have the baby back, because now they can use him as BAIT, to lure Anas to them. Gina is outraged at this, you can't use my baby like that. Leandro SLAPS her, I'll do whatever I f*king well please! Remember I'm the boss, and you, you think you're so pretty and all, but it's all gonna fade, and you'll be nothing. Gina just glares at him

DUEÑOS, Part 2

Paola arrives, tells her Daddy that the evil woman laughed at Iggy! Leandro takes it all calmly, way TOO calmly for José Carlos, who says you need to stop injecting that crap into your arm, it's making you weak. Leandro punches HIM (with very little effect, JC is tough), and reminds him too, that there's only one boss around here, and that's Leandro. JC replies that he's not gonna stand by idly while Leandro runs their business into the ground.

Bob gets back to the mansion, Vero's being shot is already on the news, and Irene reams him out, you shot the wrong dame, you idiot! He denies, she tells him that he should be happy that she likes him, because she's gonna save his ass.

In Chile, Ines comes to see Gerardo, runs into Jorge, I don't really remember what they said because I was looking at Ines' legs.

Analía can see that Vanessa likes Conrado, asks about the past, but Vanessa ain't talkin'. At the warehouse, Conrado gives them a sample of the Alas de Mariposa. But then he gets the call about Vero. Later, Vanessa and Analía meet with Anas about the coke deal, and Anas exhibits her tough side again, dismissing Vanessa to talk only with Analiá, and physically intimidating Analía, together with threats, making it very clear that they will have to do things HER way.

At school, Daytona is thanking the other kids for a wonderful senior year, they'll all miss each other, when the principal interrupts, Lu is taken out into the hall, told her mother was shot, she breaks down, Chad goes out to see, and they both rush to the hospital. Vero does not survive. We later see Adán looking at the corpse, covered by a sheet, he dramatically pulls it back slowly to see Vero's lifeless, apparently naked body so small and fragile, no makeup (but that mascara's still working), he's destroyed. That night he has a dream, everything's fine, they're all laughing around the breakfast table, Vero's smiling, Delia's smiling, they're all eating strawberries, but no, he then sees Vero in her swimsuit, covered in blood, like a zombie, walking towards him, wakes up, alone in bed, and knows it's true.

Analía thinks she could be killed at any moment, nobody can know she's in town, Vanessa thinks she's paranoid, they should go out, since you didn't rat out Alejo, right? Yeah, ummm, right.

Marcelo is pacing the cell, talking to himself, totally losing it, Alejo, his cellmate, forces him to get a grip. Alejo is taken back to that interrogation room. Ferrara wants to “help”him. Alejo says he's not saying one word without his lawyer. Ferrara pushes a piece of paper to him, you could be transferred to a maximum security prison, away from here, and then in six months, we'll drop all charges against you for lack of evidence. Hah hah, says Alejo, I don't trust you guys for a minute, what would I have to do? You have to testify against Anastasia Cardona. If you do that, she'll get the gas chamber, and you'll be free in six months, to be with your family. Hmmmm, this gets Alejo's attention. We see Saúl in the outer room, observing. Rita knows about this, too, and wonders what they should do. We have to report it, says Saúl, that's what we get paid for (by Anas), and you'd better start doing it, too. He calls in, tells that Alejo may be about to become a sapo. Anas will NOT be happy!!!!!!

AVENIDA B

Jean--I apologize for inserting my little review, but it seemed as though Avenida was lacking some attention. Yesterday I realized I hadn't even finished watching Thursday's episode--the cliff-hanger came later.

It IS getting better and more interesting, after last night's episode.

For those of you who may be wondering whether to watch Avenida Brasil, I highly recommend. It's one of the best TN's I've ever seen. I might even watch it again.

No need to apologize, Anita. I will post if I have time but sometimes I don't. Everybody is welcome to do posts.I haven't seen Friday's episode and I won't be able to see it until Sunday night, if then, so go ahead if you want to post something on it.

Been MIA lately but I am all caught up.
Duenos: I think Vero's death may push Adan to become a sapo.
Tierra: Why is Sophia still living with Caye and Leo? This is ridiculous.
Avenida: I saw it last time Tele aired it but I am in again. It is one the best telenovela I've seen. Those hesitating, I urge you to stay. This is just getting started. Thank you for the recappers. You are the best.

Hombre and Novelera, thanks so much for giving us the scoop so far. What a horrifying set of circumstances. Are the writers determined to eliminate every single sympathetic character before we are done?

And Bob and Irene - what loathsome creatures they both are, with absolutely no feeling for human life. (I had the impression that Bob consulted the skin mag because he wasn't sure which of these lovely young women was his intended victim. And then he went ahead and shot anyway! Maybe he figured 50/50 odds were good enough and that any friend of Erica's would be meaningless collateral damage, and he'd get a Do-Over.

I'd characterize Anastasia's contact with Analía as an ambush rather than a meeting...

Anas was every bit her mother's daughter as she beat up Paola and tossed her around that hospital room...

I suppose Vero's death will be interpreted as Quezada retaliation and will feed the ongoing war.

Ok. I'm ready for this to be over.

Dueños

thanks so much Hombre!
this was one of those shows where there was a lot of little things going on and I was getting lost.

hmm, I was wondering if Bob knew which one was Erika, if that's why he went back to get the magazine, but even then he shot the wrong one, and a gut shot too, I didn't get all the damage from the autopsy report that Ferrara read, but it all seemed sloppy to me, after all he could have killed both of them if he wasn't sure.

if I was Irene I would want my money back, she had a hard time keeping Bob around long enough to yell at him, because he just wanted to go off and do his coke.

so sad, Vero died on the beach alone while Erika is running around. (even though she was hard to like, I think she was the only sane person in this show) strange to see Silvana at the hospital, she must be riding with Adan, she is an interesting character when you include her back story.

ha, Paola brought Iggy some books to read, fat chance!

and when Anas shows up and starts getting on him, cracked me up, comparing him to the barbie Ken doll, which doesn't have any genitals either.

Leandro seems to be losing his control, first he slaps Gina for talking back to him and later smacks JC who is upset about Paola being worked over by Anas and accuses Leandro of doing his morphine rather than taking care of business, both times causing Leandro to assert that HE is the boss.

so will Alejo turn on Anas, hmm, Ferrara gives him his word on the deal, good luck with that.

in Chile, when Ines walks in, I think Jorge is doing his coke, which seems to be a normal thing, but explains he is waiting for news of the girls, and Vanessa does call, says things are going good, as she takes off her wig, what?

I think Analia was planning on doing business with Conrado, but Renato knows where they are staying, and rather than go to Vero's wake, Anas drops in on them, and when things look bad for Analia, Conrado moves in and says HE will take care of this.

Jean--Let me give it a whirl after I finish QA and Sombra. Friday's episode was a shock--wasn't expecting what happened on the road!

Thanks, Hombre. Terrific recap.

I was hoping that the shot wouldn’t kill. So sad that Vero died alone right after having crappy encounters with Linda and then Érika, without even a chance to say goodbye to Adán and Lu.

I was so ticked at Érika calling Adán first, instead of 9-1-1. But then I looked it up and apparently many municipalities didn’t designate 9-1-1 for emergencies until the 1980s.

Though I have nothing against Paola, I loved Anas tossing her around the room. Plus Paola needed to know that Iggy had raped Anas for hours. Strangely, I was disturbed when Anas stomped on Iggy. That seemed like something he would do and to be beneath her.

With Vero gone, who will I root for? Let’s see. Alejo, Lu, Silvana. I still would like to see Renato retire from the business on a secluded island. JC is still on my good list. How Adán and Érika go forward should be interesting, but I can’t see them together.

Love Vanessa’s pixie haircut better than that wig.

Why did Gina hire Daisy? I too am hoping Rodrigo winds up with Silvana.

I agree that if you're thing about watching this, give it a go. I'm totally drawn in already.

The baddie is so so bad. I really liked MonaLisa.
The little girl (my namesake!) has been AMAAAZING. What an actress! I'm going to miss her.

AVENIDA BRASIL - Recap for Friday episode

There is a wedding—There is a fatal bus accident—There is nookie by the sea

Let’s start with the wedding. To relieve the abject conditions of their lives as basureros, Mamá Lucinda has decided to let Batata and Rita get married. She stages a full-fledged wedding ceremony with a padre and everything. Everyone is dressed to the nines in found objects. Batata is handsome for an 8-year-old, Rita looks lovely for a 6-year-old (even if she does have her permanent two front teeth). After the ceremony, where eternal love is pledged, rings exchanged, there are two very sweet kiddie kisses.

Big Bad Bushy Nilo is seen observing from the back. The newlyweds cut the cake and when Rita throws the bouquet, BBBNilo catches it and stomps on it. Lucinda gets on her mama-bear tough act and confronts him—with a knife to his throat. Nilo tells her he should never have taken that girl in. That little one is a snake.

Next day after breakfast, the kids go back to work. Rita spies Max talking to Nilo and she hides. Mamá sees and makes the connection. Rita tells her the whole story of her father, Genesio, stepmother, Max and the stolen money. She swears vengeance. Lucinda tries to talk her out of vengeance—it’s better to go on and make a new life. Rita está decidida—venganza will be hers!

We’ll interrupt the flow with a scene between Alexia and Carlos. Carlos arrive unannounced and unexpected bearing bags of baby gifts and a “workout” mat (supposedly for nursing babies). She tries to get rid of him, but they end up having hot, mad, passionate, unrestrained SEX on the mat. She thinks he knows too much about babies, but he swears he has NO children (make that 2 ½ Noes). He asks her to be his novia. She’ll think about it.

There is a fatal bus accident. Monalisa’s entire family is on its way back to Paraibo. On the way, Mona finally admits to herself and to her mom she still loves Tifón and wants to go back to him. They decide to change buses at the first stop and go back to Río. She’s content with the decision as she looks out the window. That means, of course, disaster ahead. The bus driver starts getting careless and tries to pass a truck several times, swerving each time. The last time is the last time. The bus crashes and turns over on its side, perched against a tree. Everyone gets out except the young boy who was nice to Mona before and his mother. Mona climbs back into the bus, but can’t get the mother out—she looks dead. She persuades the boy to get out, just in time to watch the bus topple down to the bottom of the ravine.

At the hospital, Monalisa learns she has lost her baby. They are being put up for the night by the bus company. She volunteers to take the boy and share her room with him. She learns his name is Iran. Next morning she brings him fresh clothing and learns his dad is in prison and they were on their way to Paraibo to bury his maternal grandmother.

Everyone has met at the station. Monalisa’s family is returning to Río. A bus rep has come to pick up Iran to take him to the nearest juvenile facility. Mona can’t let him go. She asks Iran if he’d like to come with her and he says yes. She tells the bus rep to fix things then she tells her family she’s not going to Río, but continuing on to Paraibo, to see where this new life is taking her and Iran.

AVENIDA BRASIL - Recap for Friday episode, pt. 2

There is Nookie-By-The-Sea. Let’s rewind a bit first. Carminha is telling Tifón about her miracle pregnancy. She’s about 2 months pregnant with Genesio’s child—the one they were never able to have while he was alive. She wants Tif to be godfather. (What more clever way to keep Tif close without actually coming out to say she wants him to support them.) She says, no, she doesn’t want anything else from him (but her actions say keep the favors coming). She’s caused enough trouble for him. Tif tells her Monalisa broke up with him permanently.

Back home, Tifón’s Mom is telling her hub Tif is lucky to be rid of Mona. Of Carminha, she has nothing bad to say, she’s a right decent sort and she’s going to go visit her right now. Once there, she does most of the talking. Carminha enhances her status by swearing she would never have taken advantage of Tifón for having run over her husband. Mom thinks it was fate that put them in each other’s paths. She makes a LOVE mountain out of a deep dark hole and offers Carm the use of the family beach house for the weekend to help her through these tough times—and maybe Tifón might show up. On leaving, Mom’s opinion of Carminha is still turned up to HIGH and tells her she would love to have Carm as her DIL. Carm is completely gob smacked.

Carminha is telling Max excitedly of her good luck—with everything. They are going to live the good life. Max grumps about his do-nothing weekend. She tells him to defer his gratification, for heaven’s sake. Oh, and by the way, could his paparazzi buddy come out and take one photo, just one, of her and Tifón, the Celeb, frolicking at the beach house?

Tifón’s Mom talks him into checking out Carminha more closely. He is still into Monalisa, but as soon as she’s gone, he only needs a minute to decide to head for the beach house. Max apparently invited himself to the beach house and wants a little nookie of his own. Carm says they’ll have to be on the lookout for Tif. Yep, they are just getting busy in the hammock when they see Tif’s auto driving up along the strand. Max has to scramble to get out of the way.

Carm greets Tifón with a big hug. She cooks. They can’t eat. It’s awful. He volunteers to make spaghetti a la carbonara. First Carm wants to go play in the ocean. Salt water is good for the spirit, or something like that. Photo Guy gets his pictures. They eat by candlelight. She tells him about her life as a model. She made a lot of money but spent all of it. She could say her life didn’t begin until she met Genesio. Tifón looks at her earnestly cooing, who says it couldn’t begin anew? Carm acts all flustered and gets up to wash the dishes. It ends with some very grown-up kisses. (I'm going to guess they were followed by some nookie.)

Post beach nookie weekend, Tifón drives Carminha back to the city. (I guess Max took her out TO the beach house.) She seems a little cool and distant. Tif wants to know what is the matter, doesn’t she like him? Carm thinks things are going too fast. A couple of days ago he was engaged to be married and she a new widow. Then (so as not to let the pigeon escape) tells him she does like him; she’s fallen in love with him. The more she insists there cannot be anything between them, the more he says there can. She gets out of the car. They have a discussion in the middle of the street. Even as she says, NO, NO, NO, she can’t take anything more from him, she kisses him and says this is Adios, forever. Adios? Tif wants to know what she means by Adios? [My recording stops right here. Drat.]

Thanks for the great recap, Anita. I like your style.

Thanks, Hombre, for a great recap. Since it was a Friday recap, I found myself assuming that novelera wrote it. I was thus somewhat taken aback when I read "I don't really remember what they said because I was looking at Ines' legs." :-)

Bob is supposed to be such a skilled assassin, but he apparently doesn't even realize that he has shot the wrong woman. If he had watched for even a few seconds after he fired the shot, he would have seen that it wasn't Erika that he hit. Or does he in fact realize he's hit the wrong person and simply doesn't care?

Dueños

Juanita, I was surprised Bob had to go back and check the magazine to confirm Érika’s look since he’d been all up in her face back at the party a while back.

Irene at least feels bad about Vero, berating Bob that he killed an innocent woman that didn’t harm anybody. Of course, Irene is a hot mess in the first place because Érika hasn’t done anything to harm anybody either (unless you count cozying up to her friend’s husband and still being in Conrado’s heart). My impression is Bob thought he killed the right person until Irene told him the TV news reports and then he didn’t want to admit his mistake or give her money back. He doesn’t give a damn about loss of an innocent life. I wonder if Renato would feel the need to take action if he knew Bob murdered Vero since Bob is his freelancer.

DUENOS:

Thanks, Deb, for your additions, since I forgot some key points, and thanks to all for the comments. In case people aren't sure, I do the recaps for the Wednesday and Friday shows. Normally, Novelera does Monday and Thursday, Deb does Tuesday. Since Novelera is on vacation, I think NovelaMaven is going to do the Monday and Thursday shows this week. Deb will probably do Tuesday and I'll do Wednesday and Friday. The gran final is supposed to be the following Monday, April 20th, and I'm going to post something, but since my time during the week is so limited, I'm hoping we'll have multiple recaps or extended comments for that one.

Dueños

Thanks, Hombre, for reminding me what the recap schedule has been. I guess it's no wonder I can't keep the telenovelas straight, since I can't even manage the recap schedule :-). Oh well, no matter when you do them, I very much enjoy your recaps.

Dueños
Niecie, I too found it odd that Bob had to go back to refresh his memory about Erika.

You raise a good point about Renato. He's no dummy, and my guess is that he'll put the $50K Irene asked for together with Vero's death once he learns that she and Erika were together on the beach. Just what he'll do with that realization isn't yet clear to me.

Duenos

I'm sure if the women had been naked and Erika hadn't used a body double, then Bob would have gotten it right. (And now I feel bad because Vero was one of the few good people here. QEPD, Vero.

(I'm also now hoping Luciana doesn't have to go through with the pregnancy. Who's going to help her now? Adan? The psycho Colombian woman? She needed her mother).
