La Sombra del Pasado #63 Thursday 5/14/15

There's really only gonna by a short version. Honestly, I'm thinking a long version will not be forthcoming. I'm tired. My students are tired. I'm trying to pack up my room and there's dust and bug carcasses are everywhere and I'm pissy and I don't have a Val or a Cris to slap around. I want an inflatable Val doll that you slap and it pops back up for more slapping.

Lola learns Simoneta is actually named Viviana. She goes apeshit. Oh...and Lola finds out Sim/Viv is her mom. She is never going to forgive Dominga. She stomps out to the stables to let Melesio know she hates him, too. Eman is there to witness her apeshittery. He catches up with her in town and comforts her.

Cande can't believe Dominga dared to give her parenting advice when Dominga was sucking at grandmothering. Dominga tells Cande that Simoneta Saavedra is actually Lola's mother.

Sim is having a crappy time with Sev in the DF. She worries about what Cris will do. Sev has other (I assume bigger) stuff to worry about.

Aldonza and Cris are on the too much, magic bus. She talks Cris into letting Tía Adelina live with them.

Pato and Silvia rent a gorgeous house. It comes with a desk that I suspect will also become a character/plot point. The owner of the house conveniently needs their legal help evicting a renter for non-payment. SL is rolling in the legal work.

Joaquin comes to check on the Padre. Adelina asks about Flavia and little Ray. They still aren't back. He tells her about pressing charges. Adelina offers to help with anything he needs.

Humberto and Pru argue.

Abelardo skulks about Las Animas and claims he has some papers to deliver to Sev.

Seriously. Can we ditch the Silka ads? I miss you Concha Nácar.

Padre and Adelina discuss all the stuff he's got to do at the church. Adelina wants him to take it easy. Aldonza and Cris arrive. They tell Padre and Adelina the great news!! Padre will perform the religious ceremony in 8 days (*snort* We know that won't happen.) At least Cris and Aldonza look happy for now.

Lardo has made it into the house and lies his way into Sev's office.

Lola goes to Sim/Viv's house and bangs on her door.

Awesome. Lardo found a gun. Nothing could go wrong with this. Cande bangs on the office door and yells "Who's in here!!"

Thank heaven. Adelina turns down Aldonza's invitation to live with them. Newlyweds need privacy. Adelina can stay in the parrish house and help Padre J out or work with Irma. She respects Aldonz'a life. Now Aldonza needs to respect hers.

Lardo lets Cande in and explains his "errand." He claims to to have not realized he locked the door. Cande still doesn't understand why Sev hired him and doesn't buy Lardo's BS that Sev trusts him.

Lardo runs into Val on the way out and dammit he makes me like him for a moment. He tells Val he would have done anything for her. She doesn't know how to value those who truly care for her. That's why Cris preferred Aldonza. Because Val ain't worth sh!t. And since I don't know how to do screen shots, you get a crappy picture I took on my phone. I paused the recording and thought this was hilarious.

derp.

Ren meets with the detective in the DF. The police in SL haven't been able to find Lardo and the DF police can't do anything since SL is not their jurisdiction. They will either have to wait until Lardo comes back to the DF and catch him OR hope the local SL police get him and send him to the DF for questioning.

Cande and Val are discussing Cris when he comes in. Cande slaps the shit out of him. I mean really lays it on. She rears WAAAY back and KA-POWIE!!!! (and Val looked like she smirked. Bitch.) How dare he go off without telling her!!!! This is her house!! Respect it! Cris says he most certainly will...and he won't be staying long. He leaves and Val wonders what he meant by that.

Mari discovers Lola never opened the shop. Pato shows up. They both try to prove to the other that everything is fine with the respective novi@s. Yawn. Oh, Pato is poet. Mari is not. (PS: I feel more chemistry between Pato and Silvia.)

Lulu informs Padre that Lola is in the church crying like the Magdalena. Lulu didn't have the heart to kick her out. Padre goes to see Lola.

Lola starts to badmouth her grandparents. She tries to explain what they did, but Padre already knew. Lola is surprised by that. Padre explains tha Dominga told him and he encouraged her to tell Lola the truth. He advises not to judge her grandparents too harshly. They had their reasons. Sometimes people avoid the truth so their loved ones don't suffer. Lola thinks they should have told her. She's suffering anyway, isn't she? Padre tells Lola that eventually she will understand. Her grandparents may have been mistaken in how they handled it, but they did it with her best interests at heart. He invites Lola to come eat with him. Aldonza is back and he's sure she has plenty to tell Lola.

Mari informs Irma that Lola didn't open the shop. I really didn't pay attention. I was hypnotized by the over application of Irma's green eyeshadow. Make-up is not doing this lovely actress any favors.

Aldonza and Lola share notes about Sim/Viv. Lola tells her about seeing Sim and Sev kissing and that's why she stopped seeing Sim. Aldonza tells Lola that she and Cris saw Sim with Sev in the DF. Lola marvels that her mother has turned out to be Sev's lover.

Crap. Power surge. TV just shut down. Hope my recording is there when I can turn it back on (don't ask.) If not here's what I recall from the last few minutes. It's not much.

Cande barges into Cris's room. He's made a decision. He'll tell Cande what it is when Sev gets back.

Some SL old biddies bad-mouth Aldonza. Val comes to join the fun. She gets slapped for her trouble. Hell yeah. Do it again, Aldonza!

Sara, YOU ARE GOOD!! La Sombra has not aired here yet.

Thanks in advance

Sara I have not read the 'cap yet because the ep has not aired here yet either.
But just let me say, you are a real trooper, wish we could get you a TN punching bag/dummy to lay into when you feel overloaded!
Hugs,

J in Oregon

Sara- Thanks so much for getting this done so early. I have all day meetings tomorrow and won't be able to check into the blog until late.

Man, I FELT that slap Cande gave Cris, through the screen. Wow! I enjoyed the slap Al gave Val, and wish she would have slapped those old gossips too. Loved the verbal slowdown Lardo gave Val too, but looks like he gets his anvil tomorrow.

I like how Adelina put her foot down about Al letting her have her own life too. I actually thought their conversation was quite revealing about their relationship, as was the conversation Al and Cris had about Adelina. Aldonza acknowledged that Ade loves her unconditionally and that she owes her everything. Her tears at the thought of living without Adelina also shows how much she sees Adeline as her mother.

The argument between Pru and Hum got quite vicious and also revealed what Pru really thinks of her husband. I find the fights between these two to be so real and visceral.

Thanks J and emeraldrose. I feel kind of bad for putting something up before it airs. I put the page break before the recap. Hope that helps a little.

Sorry, Vivi! Missed your comment.

Yeah. Pru brought up the child in Los Olivdos (or wherever) and pretty much told Hum that licking Sev's boots has gotten him no where.

I told ya the slapping would start, Again. All the wrong people are being slapped. And why is sev able to slap folks before they can stop him, The man has one arm For petes sake. And how did he rape sim with one arm. She's got two arms. This Is tv. In real life I think a desperate woman would beat the hell out of him, with both her arms and hands. Thats what I'm thinkin. And your right sara. That wedding ain't happening until way close to the end of the tn. If it happens before then, I will surprised. I know they do all this for entertainment. But it's good for venting. Well something good happened to one bad guy, lardo got shot. Jerka$$!!!!!!

Nina

Nina - we discussed it earlier when Aldonza was raped, but it doesn't matter if Sev has one arm. We can't blame his victims for being raped.

Just noticed- slapdown not slowdown (thanks, Tablet), although it did slow her down too.

Nina- This is a tn that revels in slaps. I don't mind. They've been good so far. :) The slap Cande delivered to Cris was a particularly good one. The one Al gave Cande many episodes ago was also fabulous. She drew blood.

Yes I have to say that this TN has had some of the most powerful slaps I've ever seen.

Hey, Sara! I DID see the episode and you did it more than justice! Man! These people sho' do like to slap folk, don't they? Good gravy! So it's okay to smack the mess out of your grown son because he didn't tell you that, when, or where he was going? You BET it's time to raise up outta there Cris!

Loved Padre's talk to Lola. I won't call her a silly hothead: she DOES need to chill and think. I guess she's allowed to be shocked and hurt for a while. Nuff said.

Loved how Padre took the marriage: he smiled right away! And glad that Adelina insisted on moving to the parsonage but now Lola will be bringing her dram to El Santuario.

And Donnie attacked by two bitter biddies and Vile. Love how Donnie walloped the wench. Good things these guys don't pack heat or this novela would've been over at the second show!

Is this a record? Two major smack downs in one episode?

Thanks, Sara! Bang up job. Hope school is out soon and you can get some rest, honey!

Lila- Well, every time someone pulls out a gun, someone gets shot, so you're not exaggerating. Looks like it's Lardo's turn tomorrow. Tee hee.

Thanks, Lila.

Brain Fart- who's been shot? Ray is the only person I can think of.

Yeah, danggit! Do they think we won't watch? They show too much!

Thanks Sara for taking one for the team.

I loved MalVa's photo, perfecto.

What is the deal with all of the slapping? Granted most were warranted but it still bothers me especially when Cande laid one on her grown son.

Loved the new combo law office/residence. I hope the set designers don't muck it up like Cande's casa.

Rosemary Primera

The other shooting I was thinking of was when Rob dug up the gun and shot at Sever, but it unfortunately jammed. Come to think of it, I think that's also the same gun Lardo stole. It gets around. Like the candy house.

Sara- One correction. Padre has never spoken to Sim/Viv. It was Dominga he spoke with and advised to tell the truth. He also didn't tell Lola that Sim had her reasons. Only Dom and Mel.

Gracias, Sara! Dead bug bodies are the worst! How many more days before you're free?

When Cande was comforting Dominga I actually wondered if she would end up going to Lola and telling her to forgive her grandmother. Cande may be a cold-hearted snake, but she does love her Nana in her own twisted way. I'm not sure how much of Dominga moping around she can take. I'm reminded of the time she freaked out because Dominga felt too "sick" to cook dinner and she wanted to call Humberto right away.

"Humberto and Pru argue." Pru actually, for once, said something thought-provoking when she said that just because Humberto is now trying to be a good person doesn't mean he's a better person than she is. It's not a competition or anything, and he's done things that are, uh, more bad...but she does more low-level bad stuff on a daily basis. For me, between her overall unpleasantness as a person and the fact that he does occasionally *try* to do the right thing, I think that does make him a better person. Maybe not a good person, but a better one.

That picture of Val is perfect!

"Val looked like she smirked." I thought so, too. That's just cold. Especially for a slap that vicious. I wonder if there are outtakes with the actors comparing techniques or arguing over who did it best.

"Lola thinks they should have told her. She's suffering anyway, isn't she?" Is this a theme? Not just on this show but on others? That hiding the truth in order to keep someone from suffering always backfires?

"Make-up is not doing this lovely actress any favors." Maybe they're trying to make her look older in comparison to Mari? It's not working.

"Some SL old biddies bad-mouth Aldonza. Val comes to join the fun." I just put that together with the earlier scene with Pru on the phone. Was THIS her plan? Seriously? That was supposed to be the horror that awaited Aldonza when she got home?

Thanks Vivi. I fixed it. Hope it reads right.

Thanks, Kat. I still have another week.

I also loved that shot of Val. :) She makes great ugly faces. Same with Pru.

Kat- Loved your recap of the Pru Hum argument and your assessment of who is the better person. I feel like Hum is working slowly towards his come to Jesus moment.

At least Hum doesn't try to make anyone's life more difficult just for kicks. Pru, on the other hand...that's practically her job.

It is rather anoying to see this woman keep slappin her grown-up son. When is he going to say enough momma, no more slappin. But its not up to him its the writers/directors call I guess.
Sara- I'm not blaming these poor ladies for being raped, I just wish they'd fight this one armed bastard, cause I think in real life, he'd be totally armless by now. I blame the writers/directors for making these women appear to be more helpless than they should be. He has no weapen, just that one arm. In real life he'd be in a world of hurt. But then again it's just entertainment. I hope I didn't offend anybody. I apologize if I did.

Nina

P.S. more slapping to come!!!

Yep, that was one slap-happy episode, thank you SARA for putting up a great recap in such short order!

Here are my tiny comments:

I, too, was mesmerized by Irma's peacock-tail blue eyelids. Mari looks like she is past her sell-by date. And Silvia looks old enough to be Pato and Renato's mother.

The desk in the new law office--surely there will be a secret document hidden away in it.

Did Cris or Aldonza mention counseling to help her deal with her horrific experience? Or are they just going to wait and see if it all goes away?

And finally SARA I agree: "Seriously. Can we ditch the Silka ads?" They run that disgusting athlete's foot ad every night just as I sit down with my banana yogurt...

J in Oregon

Great work Sara.

It's all going to hit the fan in the next episode. And it looks like Abelardo is getting shot. However, I don't think they're killing him off yet.

As for how Satanic Sev has managed to rape two women (that we know of) he had the element of surprise in his favor. Also, since he had already been living with a single arm for almost 20 years before raping Aldonza he would know very well how to compensate for having only one arm. He can ride a horse just as well as he could, so his legs must be very strong. He can drive, he can dress himself; the only thing he can't do is carve his own steak.

"The desk in the new law office--surely there will be a secret document hidden away in it."

That sounds so Nancy Drew. It kind of makes me giddy.

Wow, Sara, you were on this right away, weren't you. And, despite dead bugs and whatever else you are dealing with at your work place, you really delivered, like always.

I love the slapping. Cris is going to have a multiplicity of reasons to move in with Aldonza.

I am not disgusted by the Silka ads, but I have to admit that watching Victoria del Rosal selling face creams is more appealing.

Your screen shot of Val was great!

Vivi, I may be wrong about this, but I thought the gun Rob shot at Sev with was an automatic, which is why it jammed. The gun Lardo stole from Sev's office was a revolver, wasn't it?

I feel for Lola and Em as they try to uncover the mysteries of their births.

Sev the one armed rapist has never been very believable to me. I think that a healthy woman with two arms could almost surely resist his attacks. Gouge his eyes out, or get ahold of his pinkie finger and bend it all the way back.

Thanks again, Sara.

David

Kat- Thanks for pointing out how Val-Cande-Pru's plots against Aldonza have failed epically. Val's plan for Lardo to seduce her and get info on her dirty past, was especially hilarious. The girl was already used to nasty gossip about her, but I guess now there is "proof" of her imagined skankiness because she went away on a dirty weekend with Cris. Can't wait til they learn they are husband and wife.

David- You're likely right. I know nothing of guns, so I don't notice the details. Sever has quite a few guns in that drawer, huh.

Your a trooper Sara! Great recap amid a tiring time. Hang in there. Summer break is coming soon.

The original script title of this episode was "Whole lotta slappin' goin' on", but they thought it sounded too comedic. One was diserved, the other was the sign of a woman just losing it. What the heck is Cande going to do to him when he tells he married her worst fear? Grab a two by four and hit him? Honestly

So, I had whole other images going through my head with that desk...yeah, little more in the horizontal mode. But much better to think there's some deep dark secret buried in it. Cake, desk, anything else out there?

What was that with the Mari/Pato--some hint of a future hook up? I don't see it...let's move on.

Loved that house! But I wonder who might be the tenant that needs to be kicked out or was that just a side comment to give these guys more work?

That picture is priceless. It's on the dart board all. Have at it. We'kll replace with her look when she finds out about the marriage.

So let's see previews, Lardo with Sev's gun, Cris finds him...won't be good.

Daisynjay

Who wants to bet that the document will have something to do with El Santuario or Las Animas?

Sara, I love how you state things, what a girl with wit.

"Cande can't believe Dominga dared to give her parenting advice when Dominga was sucking at grandmothering"

That photo is perfect

Forever I wonder and my hopes up, what conversation or happenstance will be the tipping point for Humberto?

Aldonza - alone in the house with my husband, no way

Lola - better off dead

PJ - oh dry up

Cris - I got a secret, na-na na-na boo-boo

Cande - if you got a tattoo it better say mom

Abelardo - asking for it

Humberto - what I get for marrying the first girl to touch my willie

Silvia - I'll need a adjoining room

Sara - thank you for the recap and that wonderful screen cap of Val. Perfect!!! I will watch my recording later today.

Silka ads? Oy! I FFWD--> thru all the commercials.

It's doubtful that Aldonza will ever get counseling. They will wear their telenovela beanie hats forever. Who wants to bet that once Sev is dealth with, her PTSD will magically disappear?

Doris, that's what I'm afraid of. Like I said the other day, all roses and pink bows once the villains are taken down. They made a serious plot development after the wedding though that she is NOT handling it well.

Add to the fact that she still wanted her Tia to live with her, that to me was a bit concerning. I know she loves Ade, but how much of that was a need to have someone nearby she can keep running to who knows her full secret? Deep down is she afraid to be alone with Cris? Again, how much is she identifying him subconsciously at those moments with his father? Seemed to me when Ade was talking to her and saying no about moving in, she looked like a young child who had a bubble burst. Allie may come off strong, but there is a hurt little girl under that outer layer.

I've watched enough of these dramas where they do just what you suggest Doris--kill the villain, all trauma goes away and voila--happy ending. GRRRR. To me that sort of diminishes the reality of what some women have to deal with after rape. I hate it as a plot device anyway, but since this one is so central to the whole story, would hope they do it right.

So thinking about the preview--wouldn't it ironic that Ren winds up in town to defend Cris if he is suspected of shooting the mini-me Sev slimeball. Sorry, Uriel and Irma, but that kid is worthless.

Daisynjay

Hi, Sara...thanks for the snappy recap in the midst of end-of-the year stress. I float from classroom to classroom, but I did try to straighten up my tiny rathole of an office a bit..filing papers back into the filing cabinets for the fall semester..if I get any classes to teach.I have accumulated so many papers over the years, and I always fear that as soon as I throw something away, I will need/want it.

Wow..two more slaps. Candy is muy frustrated. It looked like she was winding up for the winning pitch of the final game not the World Series...of Slappers. Then, AL gets the opportunity to land one on that heiffa. Is anyone keeping track of these slaps ? I am guessing that we must be up to about ten by now.

From the way that ponytail was a swinging , it looks like the writers are setting Mari and Pat up as a couple in the end leaving Lola and Em back together again.

Well, lots of hammering here as our contractor/friend Jeff installs a new front door and storm door. Through the years he has also replaced our roof and siding and remodeled two of our bathrooms. Jeff is basically rebuilding the house we built after we got married.

Sev's evil, pure and simple. People are just things to him--things to manipulate, to possess, to do whatever he wants with. It's not about his physical prowess or lack thereof, it's about his lack of giving a damn about anyone but himself. It strikes me as wrong to be surprised or question how he's been able to rape two women (that we know of), when there was zero discussion about how he was able to kill a priest. Nobody said "Hey, Padre Sixto should have been able to get away from him, beat him senseless with a hymnal or something."

Diva - Word! But Padre Sexto was old and frail looking so it wasn't a stretch to believe his murder.

One thing that disturbs me is how the evil deeds of the villains are often left undisclosed at the end of the TN. Nobody else knows about the murder of Padre Sixto, so I fear his death by Sev will never be revealed. Small gripe.

J in O

PS I mean to say, I don't think anybody realized Padre Sixto's death was murder. Just "sudden death" sitting in a pew.

J in O

Maybe Humberto will reveal it. He'll have to, since I don't expect Sev to do it. He'll at least have to confirm.

Sara..I was a big Nancy Drew fan. I always wanted a ''roadster'' , a jaunty hat, and a mystery solving pal.

''Beat him senseless with a hymnal''...loved.

Besides Severed's two strong legs, let's not overlook his big, barrel chest..ugh. He is a big old barrel in black...and just as empty inside.

J in O- I don't like it when they forget some of the villain's crimes. I want it ALL to come to light. I'm glad Hum at least knows that Padre Sixto's death was suspicious.

Reading comments is always so illuminating. It didn't even click to me that Aldonza might have had ulterior motives in wanting Adelina to live with them.

susanlynn- I confess that I still read a Nancy Drew when I need a pick me up. She just makes me happy.

Sara, I hear you, girl. i used to read Nancy Drew books to my younger daughter while we were waiting for the school doors to open....she was in sixth grade, but she still loved being read to. Horton Hatches the Egg always lifts my spirits. Ah, to be young and hopeful. One must strive to keep that youthful positivity in the heart.

Someone needs to tell PJ to cancel Al & Cris' wedding in 8 days. Seems that Cris is going to be blamed for the death of Lardo.

I can hardly wait until MalVal hears about the marriage of Al & Cris. Will she tell anyone that listens that Cris was on the rebound? She can even blame it on Lardo since he will be long gone.

Cande will let Cris stew in jail to keep him away from Al.

I swear that Cande and MalVal feed each others discontent, just like a pair of high school mean girls.

Adalina is Aldonza's security blanket - always has been and always will be.

Rosemary Primera

Just a quick question for all:

Do you think that Aldonza would have freaked out if they had not encountered Satan in the dining room 15 minutes before?

Did Simoneta actually like the rape and thinking of it as rough sex? If so, that could be held against Aldonza.

Good point about Adelina being asked by Aldonza to live with them. Also, Satanic Sev -- if he and Candela fail in their next attempt at creating the rift between the lovers -- will feel free to show up at El Santuario any time he wants after Cris and Aldonza move in there. They will need to increase security.

Totally agree about Val and Cande's feeding each other's nastiness.

I still agree that Sev needs to die for things to get better for Aldonza. No matter what happens he has no limits.

Finally, isn't it ironic that the two most virginal young females in this story are named for two major whores in entertainment history?

What the...? Simoneta said very clearly that he had never forced her before AND HE HAD NO IDEA HOW HORRIBLE IT WAS. No, there is not a way that anything Sev has done to her or anyone else can be "held against" Aldonza.

Did Simoneta actually like the rape and thinking of it as rough sex?

Surely a person knows the difference between rough sex and forcible rape (which I understand to mean "made to have sex against one's will.") If I understand, you are asking how the scene played out? I did not actually see it. I would like to hear from others.

If so, that could be held against Aldonza.

Please explain. I'm not sure I understand this part.

Oy; you're right. I remember now.

If he puts it about that Simoneta enjoys "rough sex" and therefore so did Aldonza, he feeds his own possible delusions as well as local gossip. Pru and her spawn laid the groundwork for that.

However, he would risk the wrath of the Viper Queen by doing so, so I guess not. I don't think she would care about him raping Aldonza, but she would definitely be humiliated at the town knowing he's involved with Simoneta.

Naturally, this is the sort of small town that thinks that just because Roberta was a slut so must be her daughter. That will also happen to Lola if the whole truth about Simoneta came out.

Thanks Urban. Now I get it.

He's not deluded at all, just evil. He enjoys causing pain and torment. It feeds his ego. He's not telling himself they liked it--he flat out doesn't care if they did because it's more fun for him that they didn't. He said it himself--the more resistance he gets, the bigger the thrill for him. He's not going to say jack about it, because he has the brains to know that his reputation wouldn't survive it. Cande's reaction isn't part of that equation.

I'm not sure I understand Urbans point? I'm horrified that anyone would think what happened to Simoneta was Aldonzas fault in any way shape or form.

Severiano is a monster and he gets off on hurting women- Aldonza was an innocent victim, Simoneta was also a victim. I feel a bit less sympathy for her because she's a grown woman who has stayed by his side even though she knows he's a violent pig.

Sara, we posted simultaneously.

I remembered when I read Kat's post that Simoneta let him know that it was horrible and she is beginning to see him for who he really is.

Men like him only believe what they want to about themselves and about women. Add that to the fact that he has besmirched Aldonza's character so often he has probably convinced himself that it's true (The Goebbels Principle). Candela certainly has convinced herself after so many years of hating Roberta and Sev almost has a bigger reason for doing so (The loss of his arm).

So he probably has convinced himself that Aldonza wanted his advances. Simoneta sees that he lusts after her, so his guard is down around her in a way it can't fall around Candela.

Does that make sense?

I think the show was telegraphing something when they had Dominga tell Mel that she thought Simoneta had cooked up the entire scheme--which I took to mean changing her name, setting herself up as a rich widow, and taking up with Sev--just to get to Lola. If that really is the case, she's not staying with Sev because she likes him. She's playing a long con.

Yup. Makes sense.

I'm with Diva on this, he gives not one flying f*ck what these women feel. He likes being in control, he likes hurting women, he knows how demeaning and horrible the act itself is and he DOES NOT CARE. He gets what he wants, he knows this is a good way to break someone's spirit and that's why he does it. Rat bastard.

Oh, nuts; I've started a sh*tstorm.

Candela's feelings do matter to Satanic Sev until and unless he can get El Santuario back. Her family owned Las Animas and he couldn't be who he is without first having married her. If he pushes her too far she just might divorce him after all.

Makes me wonder if when he finds out about the marriage he will keep quiet while planning to kill Aldonza so that El Santuario goes to Cristobal.

It's not just the women. Sev's been controlling and abusive with Mel, Cris...he fired Em for keeping him from hitting Aldonza. There's nobody he sees as an actual person, other than himself. They're all just pawns to him.

...he knows this is a good way to break someone's spirit...

I hate to think how he treats the horses. And now that Em is gone....poor animals.

But why is he so different with Cande?

Worrying that Cande will leave him out in the cold--and I do still think that a divorce would be worse for him than for her--isn't the same as caring about her feelings. She can be happy, miserable (ok, he'd prefer miserable), whatever...as long as she stays married to him so he can keep making using of her resources.

Hopefully, he's no longer as involved in the day-to-day training of the horses so much as administrative and sales stuff. Though, with Em gone and Cris on his way out, that leaves nobody but Mel to both oversee the work and do the training. And to hear Mel tell it, there is no replacing Emmanuel. He's got a rare gift.

True, but I think she has limits. He seems smart enough to know that.

Smart enough and thinking clearly enough. He's got a good grasp on reality or he wouldn't have gotten this far. If he ever loses it, he'll expose himself for the toxic person he is.

UA, I understand what you are saying. I agree Severiano couldn't give a rats ass about what any woman feels or if they want him or not. He believes if he wants it he's entitled and if there is some resistance it must be passion.

If Simoneta stays with him after forcing himself on her it will confirm to him he owns her and she the same submissive, the same as he treated Roberta (she continued to come back for more abuse). He already told Simoneta if she likes it great if she doesn't he doesn't care she's not going anywhere.

I don't think he would abuse horses he plans to sell for tens of thousands of dollars. Anyone who can spend that kind of dinero on a horse can recognize abuse in their demeanor.

Tofie, you are right about Simoneta, at least from his perspective. However, I agree with Kat about her planning her involvement with him so she could get close to Lola again. Makes me wonder what the rest of her backstory is and why she ran out on Santiago and Lola in the first place.

Roberta didn't come back for more abuse. She was done with him after Ray died. And before that, the only "abuse" was standing her up one time.

Simoneta has now been warned that she's stuck with him. She knows the kind of power he has. Why should she expect to be able to get away from him? Why should she risk her life to try? So we won't ask "Why didn't she leave?" That's not worth risking her life over and it means she has to give up Lola.

Not so sure about the long game by Simoneta, there are easier ways to insert herself back into the community without being involved with Severiano. I think she thought she was trading up, got hooked on the possibility of being the wife of a well dressed man and it has blown up on her. I don't recall she even knew Lola was her abandoned daughter at first and you would think that the first thing she would determine.

Could Sim have been involved with Sev when she left Dom's son?

There were other ways before, but there aren't other ways now. Being anywhere near Lola means being within Sev's orbit until and unless Lola gets out of Las Animas and out of Santa Lucia.

Rough, forced sex is probably the only way he can do the "deed". Where are "Mujeres Asesinas" when we need them.

Rosemary Primera

Roberta had fanciful ideas she and Severiano still an item during her pregnancy and why she agreed not to go to hospital. The turning point for Roberta was the burning of the fields & Aldonza's rape.

But Lola is moving out of Severiano's house and in with Aldonza. Lola also is looking for her to pick two bones of contention. Paramour of Severiano and why she abandoned her as a baby.

I didn't see anything to indicate that they kept up the relationship during the time between Ray's death and when she gave birth. He was probably busy dealing with the loss of his limb and figuring out how he was going to keep control now that Cande knew what was going on. Once we jumped time to when Aldonza was older, the "feud" between the families was well-established and she'd heard Roberta talking smack about The Mendozas for years. None of that says to me that Roberta was still going after him, and Sev wasn't stupid enough to keep going after her, specifically, once Cande had identified Roberta as the woman he was screwing around with.

Lola's having one bad frickin' day. I'm worried about how she's going to react when she finds out her amiba got married without her and without telling her.

Ah! So good to be back on the patio! I was suffering withdrawal!

Sara - awesome job! To the point and hilarious. (Adding apeshittery to my dictionary)

Just throwing my two cents in:

Sev: who knows how much practice he's had with forcing himself on people. And he did/does train horses. Plus, only using one arm, that arm must be real strong...(but how does he hold them down AND unbutton and unzip?)

Cande's slap was the biggest I've seen so far! All that because he left town without telling her? Though, truth be told, if I lived with my parents and when several hours away for a couple of days, I'd leave word, a note, a text, whatever. But man, he's lucky he didn't grow up in that house.

I so wish Aldie had said "I heard you dance in topless bars in Pachuca on the weekend." "I do not!" Yeah, sucks when people make up random stories about you, doesn't it."

I hope no one thinks Cris shot Lardo jealousy over Val.

I'm disappointed in myself that I didn't notice the potential irony of Val's name because Lardo pointed it out.

Good point, Rosemary! The best fate for Sev (although that won't be it) would be an army of those women, all well-armed:

Clara, Fantasiosa with her Norman Bates technique

Emelia, Cocinera, the Mexican Mrs Lovett

Claudia, Cuchillera, with her long knives

Soledad, Cautiva, with her ability to think on her feet and kill the man who pimped her out.

I don't think they were still dating on the side but believe (could just be in my head) she still expected something. Ray's murder actually bound them together more. His jacket, his gun, Rays machete all when into a hole and Ray up in smoke. She killed him defending her lover. Severiano was all but a gonner.

Hellashelle-I have a potty mouth. I have to confess I was kind of tickled with myself for "apeshittery." I made it up last night.

Also, I did't notice the irony at all until you pointed it out.

Not smart enough for Caray.

tofie - yup, she did expect something. I don't think they necessarily got physical again, but she definitely thought they still had a relationship. It was how he convinced her to have a home birth with Hum, rather than go to the hospital. After he stole her child and left her for dead, all that hope/love? turned to hatred and resentment.

Lola's definitely got a right to be mad and confused. But I really hope someone can get through to her with the simplicity of why her grandparents did things the way they did. She can still be hurt, but I'd like to see her move beyond cutting people out of her life/refusing to acknowledge their side of things when they do something that hurts her.

Maybe Donnie herself will help Lola see they were trying to protect her from the kind of stigma that SHE has had to live with from having a mother that was loose of leg.

I wonder what was in the note Sim/Viv sent: it might have been something totally benign but, oh well, cat's out of the bag now. I would also like to hear how Sim/Viv answers the question of why she left.

Oh, I totally thought it was benign... Sorry about what happened the last time we saw each other. Please let me explain. I'll be back in town soon. Can we meet for coffee?... sort of thing.

There are so many blasted secrets running through this town, everyone is going to be pissed off at everyone else before this is over.

I think PJ was softening Lola already last night. And it doesn't help that the women they spilled is her mother, is Sev's mistress. Talk about a double whammy. I do see Lola being able to work things out with Mel and Dom, she just needs space.

If Cris is married, the idea of him shooting Lardo over jealousy of Val would be mind-numbing. Unless people who don't know he tied the knot ( he did take the ring off their last night) make those accusations. Someone mentioned Cande would rather see her son in jail they married to Allie-- that happens and honestly, that woman has lost it. None of this is about Allie, it's about a whole different woman and you would destroy your son over someone who is dead? yeah, this town needs a psychiatrist to come to town and hang a shingle. Pato and Sylvia think they are busy, that person would have a line out the door.

Daisy, you got that right. I think it was Tofie who said a few episodes ago that Cande's hatred of Donnie is CRAZY: Donnie had absolutely nothing to do with Sev and her mother's affair yet hatred of Donnie consumes her every waking moment. But the man who was having the affair, well, she not only has continued living with him but even nurtured a hope that they would reconcile and bestowed upon him her freeze-dried c**chie! NUTS!

Thanks for your recap Sara---The Valeria picture is great and yes, it belongs on the patio dartboard.

Nina---I agree that a one arm mad should be a lot easier to fight against than the writers are making it appear. However, one or two blows to either the face or body would do a lot to quiet the situation down.

Didn't Sev have both arms/hands when he murdered Padre Sixto?

David---A semi-automatic, not an automatic.

Cris and Donnie alone in the house
More security is needed. What if Cris has to go to town or somewhere else? Donnie home all alone--not good.

The new law office looked great from the outside street view. The inside was spacious with a lot of rooms to be made into offices for work. However I didn't like the gray stone wall/walls? That looked ugly to me.

Cande's slap to Cris. He dared to leave home without telling her.
The real reason was because she knew that he went to the D.F. to be with Aldonza.

Val loved the slap. I can't wait till she finds out that Cris and Alde are married. What will Cande do then? Is she all out of slaps?

Will Cris be going to jail tonight? Will Lardo accuse him?

Must see tv tonight.

Sara said...--- Could Sim have been involved with Sev when she left Dom's son?
This has occurred to me but then she and Em would be half-sibs and that would rule out them getting together by the Gran Fin.

Irma's green eye shadow was truly tragic.

The scene with Pato & Mari, the music, etc., lead me to believe those two will end up together. Just a Crackpot™ Theory.

Sarah, so glad you were able to recover from all the dead bug carcasses, but at least they were DEAD, thank God for small favors! Yes, I saw chemistry between Pato and Silvia as well, she even looked sweet and cute in that scene. (Did I really say that?) Thanks as usual for the short and sweet recap...

Vivi....“The argument between Pru and Hum got quite vicious and also revealed what Pru really thinks of her husband. I find the fights between these two to be so real and visceral.” There sees to be a malignant lack of respect in that marriage. At first Pru was comical, but their relationship has taken a downward spiral beyond comedy. I wonder what the writers will do with them. They seem to be crossing a point of no return, I do think that there are things that can be said that permanently damage relationships, but hey.....it’s a NOVELA. Not sure what I want to happen....free Hum!!!

I think the reason that we keep bring up counseling is that there is a realness to the problems of the people in Santa Lucia, not just a bunch of action driven drivel and silliness that only ends, unresolved, el fin.

I’m Ok with a one-armed rape: element of surprise, reluctance to “make a fuss’” and a blow to the body or head.

(OT, Vivi, thinking about you with the last episode of “Mad Men” this weekend!)

Sorry, Pato and Mari...

Did anyone notice how tiny Mari looked standing next to Pato?
the gringo

Gringo...yes, I thought that Mari looked very tiny next to lanky Pat.

Ugh! No Mari and Pato! She doesn't deserve his awesomeness!

Yeah, I'm holding a grudge. She's way better than Val, but I still don't think she deserves sweet Pato. He's got chemistry with all three though: Lola, Silvia and Mari. And Pato's so genuinely caring, I could see him encouraging Mari to grow up and find her own way. Sigh. Oh, Pato. Swoon. He's not as sweet an piece of eye candy as full haired, square jawed ren, or the beautiful Cris, but when he smiles...ooh, when that boy smiles ::HellaShelle fans herself and slumps in her chair::

Gringo - Yes, Sev lost his arm after killing Sixto.

Vivi-You are so spot on with Hum and Pru. I've been fascinated by them, especially since Pru first started being tempted, but that fight last night was harsh. Serious truths. I'm not sure they will come out of this. If Pru's affair comes to light and she runs off with Tomas, well, maybe she'll rethink her throwing stones policy. But Val might actually erupt if that happens.

I'm with you at the Pato table, hellashelle!

Hella, on Pru and Hum, “I'm not sure they will come out of this.” I have been thinking the same thing. I think Hum deserves respect and he ain’t gettin’ it from Pru.....free Hum! I’m with you on Pato, but Mari, Silvia or Lola? Non of these gals seem really right for our sophisticated, funny LAWYER Pato! Is there a Pato table on the patio?

Ooh! What great conversations today. Time for the show!

Sandy- Yes. It's finally coming to an end. We'll see if it's a satisfying series finale. :)

That's it. I'm turning off comments. And will do so every time someone blames the victim for being raped.
