Padre Jeronimo gets a visit from Satan and his wife La Sombra Del Pasado#55 May4th, 2015

Remember: this is a spoiler free zone.

Aldonza and Cris come to the conclusion that Candela did not tell them the whole truth but they swear that the news regrading their parents ugly past won't keep them apart and then they kiss.

Cris leaves and Aldonza picks on her aunt for keeping things from her, she wants to know if her dad ever figured out that his wife was sleeping with Sev, Adelina says Ray did find out but that he did nothing once he learned the truth cause he kinda died. Aldonza tells her that if she finds out that she lied and kept things from her she will never forgive her. That is so not cool. Why does Adelina have to suffer through this? She did nothing wrong!

The next morning Candela is off to torment, visit Padre J and bumps into Cris on the way out, he tells her that Padre J will be going home so her trip will be wasted, then he tells her that he and Aldi don't believe she told him everything that there is to know about Sev/Rob affair, Candela says there's nothing more to the story and Cris reminds her that sometimes people keep secrets when it benefits them. Cande looks pissed.

At the hospital Joaquin is helping Padre J get dressed, Jeronimo can see that Joaquin is anxious about the fight he had with Flavia and tells him to go home. Once he leaves Satan enters the room. Padre J tells Sev that he is sure he is responsible for the crash-he might not be able to prove it but eventually the truth will be known. Sev tells Padre J he would never hurt a man of God and that surely he has God's protection but that he should be careful- maybe someday his luck will run out and God will be on vacation when he most needs him. Sev is an ass. Aldi and Adelina walk in and chase Sev away. He leaves but before he goes he pays the hospital bill-this will be important later.

Joaquin goes home and finds a note from his wife telling her she has left and that he will never find her. I just can't get over her awful penmanship.

In the hospital Aldi tells Padre J all about her fight with Adelina and then she tells them both that she is going to marry Cris, they look at her like she's lost her mind.

In other news, Abelardo is out gambling and winning, in the background there's a song playing-the song basically says that you should do what makes you happy cause luck eventually runs out and when you die you can't take anything with you, this might be a bad omen for Lardo because....

In Mexico city the police is still investigating the fire that caused Aldonza's apartment to burn down, the investigators have found a set of finger prints-finger prints that match those found on a container of gasoline blocks from the scene of the crime! They tell this to Renato who tells them right away that he knows who did it: Abelardo! I love Renato. Seriously, I'll fight you all for him.

Back in town Prudencia goes to see Abelardo and slaps him twice while telling him to stay away from her precious, Irma walks in on this and does nothing to stop Pru from hitting her kid-maybe she figures he deserved it? Once Pru is gone Lardo tells his mom that Val is not the good girl everyone thinks she is, she likes his umm "charms"  Irma tells him he is a "patan" and walks away.

Back at the hospital Padre J can't get any relief, first he had the visit from Satan, then his niece tells him she's getting married to a man whose family hates her and to top it off Candela shows up and won't stop touching him and even suggests that they get him a nurse. Adelina tells her that won't be needed and when she offers to drive them home Aldi tells her "thanks but no thanks"- Humberto will drive them. Aldonza then goes to pay the bill and learns that Humberto did not charge for his services (I'm still not sure about how to feel about him giving anyone medical care) and that Sev paid the rest of the bill-the nurse refuses to take her payment.

After getting Padre J home Aldi takes off with a check to Las Animas. Speaking of which, Val has made her way there to apologize to Cris, she tells him she briefly dated Lardo to make him jealous and Cris is all like "I don't care, I don't care, I don't care", finally Val leaves him alone.

Aldi makes it into the hacienda and tells Cande she needs to see Sev, she finds Sev and tells him in front of everyone that he is a horrible human being and that she does not need his money-then she throws the check in his face Sev is about to hit her when E-man jumps in the way and tells Sev not to dare, for his efforts E-man gets the boot. Kid just can't win. This might be start of everyone seeing Sev for what he really is.

Cande and Val plot, they are going to use the fact that Aldonza is in the hacienda to their advantage. I hope these two wenches get scurvy and die!

Hm, now that I think about it, I pretty much just watched it and I'm not sure what happened either...so it's not just you :D

I am holding my breath Eli, I know that your recap is going to be good.

WOW!!! Last night what looked like
Sever threating padre J---Aldonza and Adelina in a bitter argument,
Aldonza almost catching a fist in
her face and to top everything off
Aldonza catches b**** Valeria with her lips on Cris.

Can anything else happen in one episode?
the gringo

Flavia flew the coop.

That is a lot of stuff, gringo. I don't know why it didn't make an impression on me.

ok, how about this for a theory...when all was said and done it felt like most of the things that happened were all about getting Aldonza in place to see Val suctioning herself to Cris' face, which is such a trite, overused plot device that it wiped out everything else.

Great title! And honestly, I couldn't remember much either. I think the rage I felt at the end (due to tiredoftropeitis) fried my brain. Right there with you, Diva.

If Sever is going to kill anyone, I think it should be himself.

Rosemary Primera

Yes in novela dramas people do die but I hope it isn't Adelina.

Right 5ft. #5 is that Flavia is out of there.

I agree that the wrong kiss at the right time is over used. How is Aldonza going to react to it?

must see tv tonight.
the gringo

They've raised the bar pretty high, gringo, so while the kiss was annoying, they've had a tendency to come back from this kind of cliffhanger with the "offended" party saying "Oh, please, like I was going to believe that!" and just moving right along. I can hope!

So all caught up and was so excited for last night and then it was sort of an "oh, shut up people" sort of night.

That whole Val kissing Cris thing was me hitting my head against the wall going "NO, these writers weren't going to stoop to this crap!!" I'm hoping Allie doesn't fall for it, promptly walks over to Val and smacks her. I know, I know, the slaps are overused, but c'mon, it's Val.
And honestly, after everything, that CANNOT be what breaks those two up.

And seriously, Ade with the evil eye at Cande is becoming almost comical. I have to tell myself sometime that Ade, though not related to the good Padre, is simply protective of him because otherwise, her vibe is starting to seem almost jealousy.

YEAH>>>> Flavia of the flyaway hair is gone. No more bitching and moaning, but I still felt so bad for Joaquin because that was his son too she took off with. All we need is her to meet some end and the litele guy comes back and Ade gets her happy happy.

E-man standing up to the boss. That won't bode well. And previews, that handy dandy weapon Sev has--wonder who gets in the crossfire?

Daisynjay

Lol, Daisynjay, "an 'oh, shut up people' sort of night" is a great description!

So all caught up and was so excited for last night and then it was sort of an "oh, shut up people" sort of night.

I may have to start using this line as prologues to some recaps. "Ok, patio peeps...It was an OSUP episode."

Always happy to add to the little acronyms were can think up. I like that--OSUP. Might start using that at work too. Our company loves acronyms!! :)

The one part I missed on dialogue (didn't eye candy wise, just couldn't hear what he said) was Renato and the other guy--insurance or detective? Can't wait for your recap Eli to get the scoop on that.

Daisynjay

Thanks for the reminder, Daisynjay...

Where have I seen the Detective actor before? He looks so familiar to me! (Then again, he looks like he could be Hum's brother.)

Eli, thank you for recap! Great stuff and I always love to read your take on the foibles of human nature.

That snarling fight between Aldonza and Adelina did not show our girl Aldie in a good light. First, she was doing a lot of tooth-baring. Second, she said to her aunt "Oh don't go playing the victim again." Well, Tia Adelina HAS been the victim. She always gets stuck with clean-up duty from everyone else's messes.

J in Oregon

Thanks Eli--ok, so that was a detective and YES, Renato is a secondary galan with working brain cells. We may have to arm wrestle for this lad. And hurrah--at least these detectives and police look for things like finger prints. maybe they should have a training session with the SL police about the wonder of finding those in an office that has been broken into.

I so want to see Lardo in an orange jumpsuit. Sev couldn't dare bail him out because that may raise some eye brows.

Oh, didn't catch Sev fired E-man. We sort of figured that would happen. So now, Lola or no Lola, I really want E-man working at Allie's place.

Daisynjay

Good point J - I'll throw this out there. Allie is a big girl. Does Ade really need to be doing nothing but hanging with her to protect her? At this point, she should be moving on, get a job, make a life for herself. Allie is apparently is moving on with hers. I can see Ade maybe having a sort of empty nest syndrome feeling, but really, it's thought? I don't like the way Allie talks to her lately, and maybe there is a bit of "let me grow up" she's feeling like a kid would say to a parent who's holding on to the apron strings too long.

Daisynjay

I LOVE the detectives and the fact that they actually did an investigation, they found the gas can blocks away from the scene of the crime!

Thank you, Eli! I like OSUP, too and groaned along with all of you with the "got caught kissing the old girl friend" trick! That is too old and too pitiful! Maybe they went there to show that once again one of Cande's "brilliant" plans has backfired rather than as a separating mechanism for Donnie and Cris. I hope so!

But more than that and more than E-man getting fired (which I'm glad to get him away from that silly Lola), THIS stood out for me:

Aldonza tells her that if she finds out that she lied and kept things from her she will never forgive her.

If you do that, Donnie, I'ma be glad to see the wolves turned loose on your ass at least for a little bit cause you will deserve a good chewing out! Ungrateful, silly, impulsive thing! Jeesh!

She wants nothing held back? Let Adelina tell her what a silly, impulsive, lust-driven and irresponsible lush her mother was and that if it were not for her, Donnie's little narrow ass would've been pushing up daisies a long time ago or worse! I'm expecting Aldonza to apologize to Adelina but it will probably take another major scare.

There. That's my verbal butt whuppin' for Aldonza! See y'all later!

thanks so much, Eli. Hope that life and work have settled down a little for you.

Lila...wow..you go girl. I completely agree with your view concerning AL and Ad. Ad has sacrificed her own life and happiness for Rob and Ad. as in real life, no good deed goes unpunished.

I am soooo tired of Val and Candy continuing to think that can force Chris to marry Val. What is it with galans who just stand there when someone does a liplock on them. Que? How about a gentle shove?

Lila, you said just what I have been thinking about Aldonza! Sick of her attitude toward her Tia.

Thanks Eli for recapping this.

Eli – thank you for the great recap! I may never have time today to watch my recording, so I really appreciate it.

OSUP is perfect!!!

”- I'll throw this out there. Allie is a big girl. Does Ade really need to be doing nothing but hanging with her to protect her?”
ITA, Daisynjay. Ade is so darned codependent that it would never occur to her to do anything else. She was codependent with Roberta and her biggest enabler, and now sees that she must fill the same role with Aldonza. Maybe Ade thinks she has no job skills with which to get a life. Who knows? JMO

Thank you Eli. What an episode with a lot of stuff.

Stupid criminal does stupid things. Abelardo leaves the gas can somewhere nearby with his fingerprints on it.

Please writers don't make Aldonza fall for the Val kissing Cris idiocy. You know that Al saw Val look right at her right before she grabs Cris to kiss and of course Cris can't pull her off of him so they have to kiss for several seconds while Aldonza sees the entire thing. It was so obviously staged by Val that if Al then gets mad at Cris, I'll be utterly dissappointed.

Now we are set up for Joaquin and Emanuel to work for Aldonza. Very nice.

Eli, thanks for the great recap. This TN just keeps chugging along!

I cannot feel sorry for Adelina. No one has been holding her feet to the fire to take care her sister and niece. She is much like Dominga. If I remember correctly, she did have a job in DF. She was a seamstress, I think. She and the ribbon lady could team up and start a new business.

Yeah, more eye candy in the melon patch.

Rosemary Primera

Finally caught up with this episode! My computer heats up too easily in the warmer weather and the chill pad doesn't do a big enough job.

Where do I start other than saying that this series rocks and if anyone needs a fill-in let me know!

I'm going to start the Karmageddon list on my computer but I will say right now:

Severiano earned his place in hell the day he and Roberta started committing adultery in the church. However, he will be in its lowest depth for killing Padre Sixto, his attempted murders since, and the rape of Aldonza.

Humberto will do time in Purgatory for aiding and abetting Severiano in the murder of the priest, the deliberately botched delivery of Roberta's second baby, and the kidnapping of this baby. And yes, I believe that Emmanuel is that baby. The scandal when Prudencia's adultery is uncovered will be part of the punishment. Too early to determine whether he will earn redemption.

Candela -- unless she actually does something she could get arrested for -- will end up in purgatory herself. Not for lusting after a priest, but for her other crimes against Cristobal and Aldonza.

Abelardo will suffer more than a legal punishment for his crimes. both he and his buddy Tomas will probably end up being turned into the police by their own parents.

But I already have decided that Abelardo's fate should be that of his namesake.

As to Flavia, adios and good riddance. The Padre was right in saying she would ultimately destroy her own marriage with her insane jealousy.

Candela has certainly destroyed herself with her long-term hatred of Roberta and carrying it over to Aldonza. I don't know how she will react when she finds out that Sev raped Aldonza, but she already knows he has no limits. She should have divorced him as soon as she knew about Roberta.

Thanks Eli.

Can't comment much, traveling, but why give us that tired crap kiss.

Loved Emmanuel jumping in.

The Aldonza and Adelina fight was stupid as that kiss and Renato's mamma giving him enough money to start his own firm. Don't run off the tracks dammit.

I agree, Tofie.

Aldonza should be seeing right through that kiss and telling Valeria off right in front of everyone... in Candela's Ice Queen Mode. Better yet, she should wait long enough for Cristobal to push Valeria away and tell her, "Forget it, Valeria, we are so over."

Tomas needs to earn a Darwin Award. How ridiculously stupid is a man who starts an affair with a married woman... and steals from her?

As for Aldonza's conflict with her aunt, I'm on Aldonza's side. Adelina treats her like a child and is now taking the consequences of her silence.

I wonder when it's going to occur to Adelina -- and the padre -- that the baby might have been a boy? She never saw the baby and has only the word of a sociopath and his lackey that it was a girl.

Hey Urban, good to see you and welcome to the Sombra patio. I totally expect Aldonza to tell Vale off and I'm going with her gasp and WTF face says "I can't believe that skank is pulling this old gag" vs. "ODM (Oh, Dios Mio) Cris is deceiving me!" I'm still on Adelina's side in the argument but if she's ever been given an invitation to TELL ALL, including that Roberta killed Raymundo, whether accidentally in an effort to scare him or what; and about her stolen sibling, THIS is her opportunity. Of course, having said "if you're hiding something" leads me to believe she will NOT. But I agree, it's time for Aldonza to bear the weight of the knowledge of who her mother was, the mistakes she made in the past which cast the shadow on her life even now.

Half hour to go and we'll see what Donnie says!

Adelina would be mostly off the hook for this if they had never gone back to Santa Lucia, but then we wouldn't have a series, either.

Other than Adelina (who only knows because Roberta confessed it to her) only Severiano knows about Roberta killing Raimundo. Adelina now has to tell Aldonza as a pre-emptive strike against him telling her. Of course there are enough episodes left for her to first tell the Padre, who will probably give her that exact advice. Which she will not take.

I find it appalling that Aldonza is now financially responsible for the damage done to her neighbors' apartments in DF. Love how the DF cops are on Abelardo's tail. When he walked out of the building with the gas can I knew that was the dumbest thing he ever could have done. Not to mention leaving his suitcase in there.

And isn't it creepy that he and Tomas will probably compare notes on Pru and Val before they're both caught?

You know, I hadn't thought about it but, creepy, yes, both Vale and Pru so deserve being talked about "locker room" style!

It would really be dumb since he's robbing her, but Tomas is totally dumb. Anyway, I hope he puts something on whatever they called their facebook equivalent on this show. Neither he nor Pru have been very discreet at all!

Thanks, Eli! Missed the 2nd half of the epi because of cable trouble, so I appreciate it.

Everyone is upset about a kiss that doesn't appear in the recap. Did it happens, or is it happening tonight?

For all the folks saying that Adelina should leave Aldonza-- would you leave your young niece, a rape survivor, alone and at the mercy of her psycho rapist? Uhm, I wouldn't.

Gracias tanto, Eli! I'm late to the party, but this did make for some entertaining afternoon reading :)

"Aldonza picks on her aunt for keeping things from her" you know, that really is what it felt like to me.

"I just can't get over her awful penmanship." Eli! I can't believe you would focus on that! At such a critical moment! Lol, I totally did it, too...what prop person was tasked to write the note and did they not think for a moment? Was it supposed to look like an angry scrawl? Like she just doesn't write much? Does her grocery list look like that, too?

"I hope these two wenches get scurvy and die!" *snort* I don't know if that's a painful way to go, but I'm ok with that.

I started to be a little worried about the cop, knowing that Sev has a connection there...but then I remembered Sev's buddy is the head of the police academy, so there's no reason for anyone to involve him in an ongoing investigation, right? I hope.... And I love that somebody actually is investigating! And found evidence!

Vivi, yes, it did happen. Val waited for just-fired Em to walk out with Aldonza and suddenly all her "boo hoo, I'm so embarrassed!" talk turned into "I still have feelings for you", sticking her hands on (stupid) Cris' face and snogging him.

I'm not one of those who would leave her but I do say if they're going to stay together then it's time she knew fully what is casting La Sombra del Pasado, that it was her mother's addiction to the devil, not just sexually but her addiction to revenge once she saw he had spurned her and killed or stole the "fruit" of their love. Aldonza's a grown woman and it's time Adelina stopped bearing the weight of all the secrets of the past alone. If she does this maybe Aldonza will see that her Aunt holding things from her was done with the noblest of intention. She should then thank her and they move forward together facing the demons of the past. She already doesn't consult her Aunt in things that affect both of their lives and I don't like how Aldonza treats her. She needs to show Adelina some respect, and Adelina needs to straighten her back, hold up her head and tell her the truth.

The secrets really are weighing on Adelina, but I think she sees it as her burden to bear, too much for Aldonza to handle, and disloyal to Roberta to say anything even remotely unflattering about her, especially now that she's gone. Why she had that loyalty in the first place is beyond me. Well, no, I guess it's not--weren't they the only family each other had left? Which is now the same position she finds herself in with Aldonza. Even though Aldonza is being snippy and mean and acting like her needs and wants are more important that her aunt's, Adelina's not going to leave her. If all the crap Roberta pulled wasn't enough to drive her away, Aldonza has a LONG way to go.

Lila- I agree that would be Adelina's best course of action, but I understand why she's keeping it all to herself. A mix of guilt and wanting to protect Al.

By the way, I also agree Al was being too hard on her tia. If it were Rob, she would have slapped the taste out of her mouth for talking to her that way.

Aldonza guessed that the reason that Adelina didn't want Roberta's ashes buried with Ray's was because of the affair. But the real reason is because the baby's casket is down there. So I'm betting that Aldonza finds out about casket and then remembers what Jeronimo said in his delirium, and puts two and two together. Or something.

I don't think there is a casket there. That's another thing Adelina didn't want her to know.

I'd love to know the backstory of Adelina and Roberta. While it is certainly very possible for the same two parents to have two daughters who are this different it seems incongruous that they end up being a virgin and a whore.

While I didn't like losing the Roberta character because of SG's performance, I had no sympathy for her. Women like her have no business getting married and having children whom they hurt and whose lives can be affected by their reps. Don't ask how I know that.

Adelina almost insults Aldonza by protecting her from these ugly truths. If Aldonza has the courage to look her rapist in the eye as she does, she can handle the whole truth.

I think there's an empty casket there. Adelina wouldn't have cared that Aldonza buried the ashes there or not if there wasn't evidence of another baby.

Aldonza knows about the other baby, but there's not a casket. That's what would raise suspicions and get her thinking about Padre J's ramblings. Roberta and Adelina had a headstone added, but somehow that didn't arounse any suspicions in combination with not actually opening the crypt(?) and having a burial. I guess everyone involved in burials in Santa Lucia is way less gossipy than the population at large.

Or maybe people assumed there was a reason for the headstone with no actual burial?

Vivi-- Hee Hee! Rob certainly did toughen Aldonza up for the slap, didn't she?

Ah, how nice to have intelligent, complex characters to discuss!

:D

Aldonza knows about the other baby?

Yep. She believes, like most everyone else, that her "hermana" died and was buried with her dad. Adelina never anticipated that Rob would die so soon and put her in the position of having to explain why Raymundo was the only one in that grave, despite there being a marker for Baby Girl Alcocer-Lozada (or however they would have put it). She also asked once about what "really" happened the night her sister died and what did the doctor say and got the answer that the doctor said sometimes these things happen. (But somebody correct me if I'm misremembering who had this conversation!)

Kat- You have it right. It was never a secret to Al that she had a sister. It's on the gravestone.

Finally got to read this, Eli. Your recaps always pack a punch and tickle the funny bone. Thank you!

I loved the scurvy line. Great ending!

Thanks, Eli. 'Candela looks pissed.'' I supposed this line could be in EVERY recap. She ALWAYS looks like she is sucking a lemon.
