Bad daddy, BAD! La Sombra Del Pasado 08/17/15 #129 (Mx 132)

Cristobal wonders: why me?

Oh my. What an episode. Let's get right to it shall we?

Your papi is a rat bastard:

The truth is out. Aldi confirms that Severiano was the pig who raped her, Cristobal finally realizes that that's why she left town without saying goodbye. He wants to know why she kept silent and she says she was too ashamed to say anything, she never reported anything to the police because Sev told her that no one would believe her-not with the reputation Roberta had.

Cris blames himself for not realizing what a pig his father is and for not doing more to protect Aldi, disgusted he goes off in search for justice, Aldonza tries to stop him but she's too slow. Cris gets on his horse and rides into town. Aldonza stays behind and collapses, she screams at E-man to stop Cris because he is going to kill his father. E-man and Don Camilo stand around looking hella confused. I bet Don Camilo wishes he had retired instead of taking this job. I'm sure they don't pay him enough to deal with this drama..

Sev is having a meeting with Mel who tells him that someone named Don Emiliano refused to give him the feed, medicine and horseshoes (I think I have the last one wrong) for the horses, and that at this rate they will end up losing the animals, which is bad because Sev and Cande will lose their buisnness and thw workers their jobs. Sev places all the blame on Cande and says things will only improve if she allows him to come back to Las Animas, and then we hear someone knocking at the door (how polite!) I think the worker that was with Mel is the one who opens the door and in storms Cristobal.

Sev can only get a few words out before a punch party lands on his face, one, two, three, four. Cris is able to land four punches and knocks Sev the f*ck out, he could have killed him if not for the fact that Mel and the other worker held him back. Mel tries to calm him down by reminding Cris that Sev is his father, but Cris makes one thing very clear: "I don't have a father, my father died today". Sev is still unconscious on the floor, a puddle of blood forming under him.

Second Chances:

The Lagos family meets with Humberto, they want to know if it's true, is Val really going to have Abelardo's baby? Humberto confirms that yes, there is a bun in the oven, and he apologizes for them not knowing sooner,  but he  just learned the truth recently. Irma says that if Val does not want the baby she and Uriel would adopt him/her. Humberto expresses hope that once the baby is born Valeria will change her ways and mature into a good mother (bwahahahaahaha, has he never met his daughter?) but he assures them that they have his full support and will have a place in Babylardo's life. Irma and Uriel look super happy and by golly they deserve it after having to put up with such awful kids, maybe this time they will luck out and the baby will grow into a decent human being. Hey, one can hope!

Independence Day:

Cris comes home and starts yelling for Candela, he accuses her of having been a part of what his father did to Aldi, Candela seriously has no idea what the hell Cris is talking about and Cris gives no more details, he just says enough is enough, he is moving out. Can we please talk about what a wonderful job the actors playing Mel and Dom have done? They say not one word in this scene but the confusion and despair in their faces says it all.

Cande goes looking for answers:

Candela goes to Sev, she demands to know what he did to her baby that would make him want to move out. Cande thinks that Cris finally found out what Sev did to her but Sev corrects her. Cris only cares about Aldonza. He tells Candela that she and Aldi share something in common, because the thing that happened to her (the rape) also happened to Aldonza and he did it because she told him to get Aldi to leave Santa Lucia. Candela is horrified, she tells Sev not to make her a part of his disgusting crimes. She tries to leave but Sev blocks her way and gets very close to her face, he tells her that he slept with Val just for giggles and that earns him a kick to the nuts and Cande quickly exits his lair.

Lola finally gets the truth:

Lola shows up to work late-is she ever on time? Waiting for her are Irma and Mari. Irma tells her that she knows she is the one who saved the shop and thanks her, then she tells her that Mari has something to say.

Mari:"Lola, you have been like a daughter to my parents and you don't deserve what I did to you, I'll understand if you can't forgive me for the lies that I told. Emanuel never kissed me, I stole that first kiss, he never asked me to marry him, we never left town together, everything was a lie."

*slap* Lola delivered a wimpy slap but I'll take it. Later in the episode Mari quits her job and tells Pato he deserves better than her, she's a poisonous creature and should not be around him.

Aldi gets some comfort:

E-man also learns the truth and is getting ready to confront Sev but Aldi asks him not to, if he wants to help her he can do so by hugging her.

Padre J alert! Our galan calls Aldi to check up on her, she lies and tells him everything is fine. Oh god how am I gonna make it through the rest of this mess with out Jeronimo?! Call me Candela cause I'm deep in despair.

Later, Aldi calls Cris to check up on him, turns out he did not kill his papi (yay?), Cris wants to be with Aldi but she shuts him down. Again. Gee what a wonderful love story we have going here. Aldonza goes for a walk and finds la tonta de Lola outside wondering how to make things better with E, after all she believed Mari over E, even after he tried to clear things up, I guess she gets some advice from Aldi but I really question whether that's a good idea.

Candela has a little remorse:

But not enough to suit me, she's at home crying because Cris left her and she's sure she has lost him forever. She wonders, as does everyone on the patio how he (Cris) managed to grow up into a decent human being given the parents he got stuck with. Oh ladies and gents, she's not upset that Sev raped Aldi, no, she's just sad that this led to Cris finally cutting the cord. She says Jeronimo was right when he said she had lost her way and Dom tells her she can still change her ways but Cande thinks it's too late.

This is the tale of how you became stumpy:

Humberto goes home to talk to Val, he promises to be there for her and the baby and tells her that Irma and Uriel  know that the baby she is having is Abelardo's. Val explodes, she tells him he that he might as well publish her disgrace in the local paper because it seems he wants the whole world to know her dirty secret.

Humberto tells her that the Lagos family do not equal the whole world and that if she was willing to have Cande and Sev be the grandparents of her child surely she can do the same with Irma and Uriel. Val tells him to never mention Cande and Sev again, especially Sev. Humberto asks if something happened with Sev and she says no, then she kicks him out of her room.

In the living room Pru is already drinking and crushing pills to put into her drink, she likes her pills so much that she even licks the paper she was using to crush the pills on. Humberto tells her to get it together, their daughter is having a baby and they need to help her. Pru tells him he's not her boss, and then they are interrupted by a knock at the door.

It's Satan Sev: "I need for us to resolve the situation with the lands in El Santuario, I don't know if you are aware of this but I'm no longer living in Las Animas"

Humberto:"that's not my problem,  and those lands are going to Aldonza and Emanuel"
Satan:"Are you crazy?!"
Hum:"No, I'm just trying to get justice, Emanuel deserves to have something from his father and Aldonza will also get her share, you and I both know those lands always belonged to her and we stole them from her"

At this point Val makes the very poor decision to leave her room:

Sev: "Are you forgetting that you helped me?"
Hum:"No, but it's time to make amends, and I'm taking great pleasure in hitting you were it hurts the most"

Oh. Snap.

Sev can top that tho! He tells Humberto that he can hurt him worse and he does by telling Humberto that he slept with Val, and then he asks Val to deny it but she can't. And now it is on!

Humberto wraps his hands around Sevs neck and let's him in on a long held secret: "the night that you were injured, when you came to Las Animas bleeding to death, I made you believe that you were worse off than you really were, I amputated your arm without needing to for what you did to Padre Sixto!"

Oh Snap. Sev pulls a gun on Humberto and Hum dares him to shoot, but Sev does not, he leaves but says that this is not over yet. I'm sure it's not.

Hum almost hits Val but Pru stops him, it seems like Hum has finally given up on Val because he tells her there's nothing more he can do to help her and then he leaves.

Pru takes the chance to mock Val for sleeping with stumpy and Val says that it was Pru who set a bad example for her or did she forget her affair with the mechanic? Pru tells her not to compare the situation, she was a woman in the middle of a marital crisis and Tomas seduced her, and say what you want about him but at least he had two arms, Val on the other hand just slept with Sev for the hell of it. Val says she did it out of desperation, and she never felt so disgusted in her life. Then she asks Pru with help in getting an abortion, Pru refuses to help.

E-man gets some love:

Lola goes to E-man, she explains what happened with Mari and tries to apologize to E  for thinking he was a rat bastartd and having a hand in smearing his reputation but he won't allow her to. He loves her and all that matters is that she's with him again, they kiss, yay?

Papi got run over by a mid-sized SUV:

Val is quickly running out of options, she goes to see a "partera" which I take to mean is someone who helps women give birth to babies and maybe helps with abortions? The woman won't help Val, at 12 weeks an abortion could kill her, not to mention that the fact that it is illegal to practice one so far into a pregnancy.

How desperate is Val? So desperate that she call E-man for help, but he says that he can not help her. Aldi take the phone from him and tells Val to get lost and to never call E-man or show her face around El Sauntiario again. I really wonder if what happened next could have been avoided had Aldonza stayed out of the conversation with Val.

Val is pissed and swears to kill Aldonza.

Humberto is at the clinic when Renato shows up with the final paper work that will give ownership of ES to Aldi and E-man,Hum asks to be the one who delivers the paper work to Aldonza and Renato agrees.

Hum goes to see Aldi and gives her the paper work, he says this is his way of apologizing and of trying to make things better. He says that in another life he would have loved to have a daughter like her, and maybe if he had been a better person that could have happened, but now it is too late, he has the family he deserves and the destiny he deserves (DEAD MAN WALKING) and he can do nothing to change that.

The two part when suddenly headlights come on and a car comes straight towards Aldonza, Humberto pushes Aldonza out of the way and jumps in front of the car, a car that Valeria is driving, the realization of what she's done hits Val: she ran over her father.

And I'm done! I'll clean this up later but now I have to get to work!

Lol, thank you, Eli! See you tomorrow.

There was so much going on, I think I need time to process.

Thanks, Eli. I'm very much looking forward to your take on another impactful episode.

Well, now we know what it takes for Cris to finally move out.

Can't wait to see what you have to say Eli.

Like Kat, I'm still digesting all that occurred. Non stop action tonight.

Diana

Thanks Eli---and your title is priceless!
Hmmm, I"m still pondering our man Humberto growing a Backbone of Steel.
His character transformation has been very convincing...

I am so glad I have my planning period today. I suspect there will be lots of comments to read.

Thank you for the space, Eli. Wow what an episode.

Thank you, Eli! Oh man, that was one helluva episode! I will hang tight until you give us your always dynamite rendering of last night's EXPLOSIVE events!

Thanks, Eli. I can't wait to read your take on things.

I guess Sev got hit in just about every part of his body last night.

My favorite scene was Hum strangling Sev. I'll bet you will do that with your usual flair, Eli.

David

Thank you Eli! I'm so excited for this recap and the comments! Diva, I think you said last week that the wheels were off this roller coaster ride and you are so right!

Thanks Eli! I watched the first half last night, now must go watch the rest this a.m.

I have to admit that was n inordinate amount of blood on the floor after Cris punched Sev.

The Pru and Val scene was some awesome acting. Cynthia Klitbo better get some kind of Premios award for her acting!!!

Good picture... yes, Cris, it's all about you. *sigh*

That cat photo is the best! LOL

LOL! Ha! That photo is perfect.

Doris- I assume most of that blood came from his nose-- from memories of past bloody noses, this can be a lot. But it certainly looks scary when a person is lying unconscious in a pool of it.

Last week was the week for people to hold guns to Sever. This week it's all about punching (Cris), kicking/kneeing (Cande), and strangling (Hum) Sever. I really want Uriel el Oso to have a go at him too. Porfa, porfa, Writers!

ITA about Cythina Klitbo. She was extraordinary this episode. I felt like I was watching an episode of the Twilight Zone during that scene with the Zapata family and Sever, as the camera took close ups of each of their faces, and drunk and high Pru swung between maniacal laughter and shrieking. What a scene!

Are we discussing (/venting) discussing yet?

Eli gave us the space to and the go ahead, so I say if you want to start discussing, you can.

Not me. I'm still kinda stuck on "wow. Did she...? Did he...? Did...? Wait...what?!"

Can we please discuss how disappointing the revelation reaction was?! Did they flip Eman and Cris’ scripts? WTH?! Yes, he should’ve been furious. Yes, he should’ve been ready to bust Sev’s head open. But should he have physically shaken Aldonza off and taken off despite her pleas and then moved out before going back to her?! And did he actually say “He knew I loved you; how could he do that to me”?!What?! Are you kidding me?! OMG, are all of these writers single? Have they never had a relationship before? I mean really, I wanted to see him look sick with grief, yes, show denial, and yes, pull her to him (I think that part was right), but then it went off the rails. Why couldn’t they have just cried together until she fell asleep and then Cris went out (making sure Eman and Camilo were on guard) and would tell Aldonza he’d be back soon, and then beat the crap out of Sev. And not just three punches to the face (though, not gonna lie, the fact that he knocked him unconscious was kind of awesome), like put the serious hurt on him—slam him up against multiple walls, some kidney punches, a couple of kicks maybe. I wanted screaming and crying on Cris’ part about how his dad betrayed him and how could he and how he loved Aldonza and he feels sick and dirty just being his son. And then a sworn promise that the only reason he wasn’t killing Sev right then is that she asked him not to (mirror image of Antonio not shooting Sev because of Eman), but that he could rest assured that he was dead to him. And then he should’ve gone immediately back to Aldonza if only to tell her again that he was sorry and that Sev was dead to him and he was leaving the house so if she needed him he’d be at the pensión.

Ok. Whew! I needed to get that out.
Now, I’m going to assume the only reason we didn’t get the beat down of the century is that the need Sev to be presentable for walking around and causing more mischief, a la his visit to Hum. Which was INCREDIBLE. Sev’s throwing Valeria in Hum’s face, Hum chocking him out and saying he didn’t have to amputate his arm, and above all Pru’s laughing. Seriously, amazing. What a fun house mirror of crazy that scene turned out to be!

Valeria! She definitely feels like the head cheerleader at a football game where everyone found out she wets the bed and has to repeat senior year while everyone else is graduating. How did she even find the underground abortion lady? What was she calling Emmanuel for? Last week I thought Hum might take a bullet for Eman, but it never crossed my mind that he’d thrown himself in front of a car for Aldonza instead! And we were all worried about Cris committing patricide! Poor Hum. He’s the doctor; who’s going to save him?! (Wait, is Ren’s dad still in town? Oh crap is Ren’s dad going to stay and Hum going to die? Crap! Does that mean Joaqin’s going to die?!) Val is totally going to jail and that baby is totally going to Irma and Uriel.

And Pato’s going to forgive Mari, just like Eman forgave Lola. And Eman and Lola will forgive her too. Bah humbug. Yeah, I’m mean. I’ll be nicer with future redemptive TN villains.

Cande’s reaction was…expected more or less. I’m still wondering whether or not this will change things with Aldonza especially now that she’s lost her picture of a husband, possibly her wealth, definitely her standing and her son (though he still hugged her. Again, what?! That didn’t sit right with me either.. I kind of get it, but my reaction was “don’t hug that woman!”).

Candy House – you were very sweet, but ever since you didn’t tie Antonio into the story, I’ve had little to no use for you. Get out until happy times unless you have something to do with this wild ride.

HellaShelle, I applaud your rant! I hope you feel better now :D

Yeah, I'm with you--Cris made it all about him. How shocked he was, how hurt he was...the person it actually happened to was the one comforting him. Not cool. And very weird that he took off and didn't come back, leaving Eman to worry about Aldonza. And then he worried about her needs instead of his own. Good brother!

The Val abortion plotline is infuriating. She has the means to go to a clean, reputable clinic with a trained medical professional and have a reasonably safe procedure, despite being more than 12 weeks along. And if she can't get that in San Miguel, she has the money to go elsewhere. Instead she's opting for this? OK, we get it, writers. You want us to think she's going to die. Because she's evil and deserves to be punished. But why is her punishment all about how she was sexually active, and not, oh, I don't know...the fact that she tried to kill someone?

If we don't get to see Marga finally open the Candy House, find the ring, and accept Arnoldo's proposal, I will be very disappointed.

hellashelle- Whew! Are you feeling better now that you got that off your chest. Love it!

ITA about Cris, and I would have loved to see it all play out the way you laid out. He was doing well there for a while, until he got up from where they were sitting on the stairs trying to assimilate it all, and made it all about him-- me, me, me. That's when he went off the rails. And then it was Al having to call him to find out how he was, instead of him calling to check in on how she was doing after bearing her deepest darkest secret to him.

I'm not bugged by Eman forgiving Lola like everyone else is. He loves her. When he's with her he's happy. We get to see smiling Eman, kissing someone, which increases the chances that he'll be shirtless at some point. All I see are benefits. :)

Hellashelle - ITA with you about our anti-galán/non-galán Cris and his reaction. Seriously, I sound like a broken record but this guy needs acting lessons. While watching it, kept I wondered how Mauricio Islas interpreted it in El Manantial. He does smoldering and such very well.

Eman & Lola - well, whatever. The poor guy finally has someone who LOVES him, after a lifetime of being treated like a piece of inconvenient furniture. I'll give him his due. Lola better be good to him for the rest of their lives.

I'm working on the recap now, please feel free to discuss it! I know a lot happened and that the patio would be going NUTS, that's why I put up a discussion post, let it all out peeps, let it all out!

Hum's visit to Aldonza, to deliver the deed to the land and his overall apology for everything signals a major anvil. He probably won't survive getting hit by Valeria, who should go to jail for it. Ooooh, maybe she can star in "Orange is the New Black, Mexico version"

Lol...I'm trying to let it out slowly, Eli! Otherwise I might level all of Santa Lucia :D

*deep breath* OK, so...middle of the night...rural area...they didn't hear a car coming? Ok, really, I don't care very much about that. The whole "I can't believe that just happened!" is overriding my need for a beanie adjustment. But it was kind of a "Wait a minute!" moment when I thought about it later.

I really wanted Lola to shut up and I guess if Em had to kiss her to make that happen, fine. But that whole conversation boiled down to "I broke up with you because I believed Mari when she lied to me and now I'm getting back together with you because I believe Mari."

As soon as Hum mentioned the word "will" several episodes ago, he had signed his death warrant.

Hey, Hella, get it out, girl! I guess I was ok with Cris's reaction, there was a large dose of shock there, which he is still in. And I have to say I kind of get how he feels like it was "done to him." As ugly and traumatic as it is, and I AM NOT saying that she doesn't need thereapy or she should be over it, but as ugly and traumatic as it was Aldonza has had time to process the assault, has boldly confronted Sev multiple times and stood her ground in the face of his EEEEVIL. This is Cris's dad and even though he's been learning that his dad is far from the person he thought he was, he had just that morning told him that he still had the love of a son for him. To learn what Sev did to the woman HE loved, the woman HIS (supposedly) beloved son loved IS something done to Cris. He knows his dad despised Aldonza with an irrational and intense hatred so he has no reason to ask, "why did you do it to her" but on the basis of that last shred of love between them as father and son he never would have dreamed that his Sev would take that hatred out in such a vile way that is also an assault to his love for Aldonza and dreams of forming a family. Make sense?

ITA the Hum/Sever show down was ABSOLUTELY PERFECTLY EXQUISITE!! And Pru lent an eerie creepiness to it that magnified the impact. DAMN!

Eman did just what we all thought, immediately forgiving Lola and having to shut her stupid mouth with kisses. Whatever. Still don't like the blithering idiota!

And Val has likely killed her own father! The look of horror on her face. Another idiota! She got pissed because she thought she could call in some credits as being his "sister" and get some money out of him to pay the back woods abortion lady and when Aldonza took the phone and shut her down, she gets pissed and must have seen Aldonza standing there outside her house and was going to run her down! She must either not have seen her dad or never dreamed he would risk his life to save hers. Remember how she couldn't understand why Hum intervened medically when Aldonza was shot. She is twisted and if she did she her dad thought he would just stand there.

Val intended to kill Aldonza because she has said that Aldonza is the source of ALL her problems and Al's getting ES and stopping her from beggin Eman for money was the last straw. Think about all the things Hum said to Aldonza before Val mowed him down: he was accepting responsibility for the monstrosities he and his family had committed and accepting his fate. Powerful, powerful episode!

Lila

Re: Humberto, the land, and the will. Yep...it's a twisted version of "Sign and Drive," Sign and Die.

Do you think Humberto was telling the truth when he was choking Sev? Or was he just so angry that he wanted to hurt him in as many ways as he possibly could?

I kept trying to remember, what had Sev "made" him do up to the point where he lost his arm, and the only thing at that point was covering up Padre Sixto's murder. I guess that could have driven him to take advantage of the situation, but he didn't seem all that angry about it at the time. If he's telling the truth, why did it he do it? Was it revenge? Did he think it might keep Sev from doing any more harm?

I'm inclined to believe Hum. He was not happy with covering up Padre Sixto's murder, and I think he was pretty disgusted with himself at the time. But when he went along with Sever, he sold his soul to him. And Sever enjoyed holding that over him. It must have brought Hum some secret pleasure all these years, knowing that he could have saved Sever's arm, if he had really wanted to.

Thanks Eli! Sorry I exploded all over the comments page :$

Pablo's acting itself didn't really bother me, just the actions. I did go back just now and watch the el Manantial version and I must say I liked it better (some of the things I objected to and wanted were persent in the old version).

I think Hum was just trying to hurt Sev when he said that, I don't think it was the truth at all. I think at most Hum might have thought the arm could be saved...but did think he could save it.Maybe rather than try, he thought it was best to amputate and avoid infection or slow muscle death or something.

Lila - I get his feelings, but I don't like the timing.

Great question, Diva. I kinda feel like he said it to try to hurt him more. Sev's arm was really bad at the time and his stressing the urgency of amputation seemed genuine, but I also kinda agree with Vivi. One thing they've done with Sev is not let us in on his innermost thoughts with the tell-tale evil eye shift or other such nonsense. Remember how we didn't know that he knew Pru was having an affair with Tomas? I like that they delivered that as a surprise and I feel like "I didn't really have to cut off your arm" was another one of those. Well played!

Lila

HellaShelle, that's a nice middle ground...on purpose, but not maliciously. Hey, kinda the way Humberto did a lot of other things, now that I think about it.

Kat- Regarding Val and the abortion: "She has the means to go to a clean, reputable clinic with a trained medical professional and have a reasonably safe procedure..."

Actually, I think the point is that a clean clinic is no longer an option because it's illegal in Mexico to give an abortion after 12 weeks. So none of the reputable places are going to do it. If she wants an abortion at this point, it has to be a back alley abortion. I suppose she was calling Eman both for money and for him to give her a ride home, since she would not have been in any shape to drive herself. I couldn't believe she pulled the "you once loved me" card to try to manipulate him into helping her. That ship sailed a LONG time ago, Val.

In any case, I think that baby's going to be born in prison now so it doesn't matter.

Oh, that's a good point too, Lila. And I don't necessarily disagree with you either, Vivi. It's going to be one of those days, I think!

At the point where Pru was crushing up pills, licking the napkin, and sweeping pill crumbs off the table--send her to rehab already! ITA with everyone on Cynthia's fabulous acting job.

That's a good way to describe Hum's actions.

Vivi, the ship sailed and it's, like, beyond the horizon. The ship has landed on another continent. What a piece of work! I'm trying to think about whether she could have called anyone else and...nope. But Em?!

LOVE the photo and caption. Thanks for the giggles!

YIKES. what an episode.

I am missing our dear Madeline and her tunes, so I would like to DJ for you all. There was a Philly DJ who called himself The Boss with all the hot ssuce, The Geater with the heater. Here's some hot sauce for our characters . I am sending this one out to Renato. One of my all time favorites..Michael MacDonald's sultry and so true " What a Fool Believes." For Chris and the cat another all-time favorite of mine " Hang on in There, Baby" by Johnny Bristol. Check them out on YouTube .

I am going to contemplate something appropo for wicked, wicked Sev who at this point seems to have had all human ties Severed from his miserable self. Later, gators.

Oh yes, Vivi, she would need a ride home, wouldn't she? And OSO and Irma reacted just as we thought they would. I could see Val getting off by claiming she lost control and it was an accident. If Hum dies and her nutcase mom survives to go to rehab, I have no doubt that OSO and Irma would take Val in. Would having (accidentally) killed her father be enough to take the bitch out of her and let her submit to the Lagos' loving attention? Seems like a long shot even as I type it!

Lila

Ooooo. Susanylnnn! Nice job DJ'ing, girl! I know both those cuts, honey, and that Johnny Bristol one is HHOTT! We all know what it's about and it's a very appropriate song for Cris and Aldonza for whenever they get their long-awaited swerve on!

;D Lila

Maybe Vile will end up having the baby in prison and then turning the baby over to Oso and Irma to raise . She is desoerate and CRAZZY. Note to self : Being a nasty, entitled, soulless snob never ends well.

Susanlynn, my eyes are playing tricks on me...I read your last line as something about Sev being fed to gators. Wishful thinking. Though I think the poor gators would rather not get the indigestion!

Oh....I am sending this one out to Sev ..Pat Benatar's "Hit Me with Your Best Shot"...and some people did!

I absolutely believe Hum. I think the writers were holding this back to throw in Sev's face at some point.

I know that medical reality has very little place in tn's, but think about this:
a) the whack from Raymundo was to the OUTSIDE of Sev's upper arm.

b) Sev could still move the arm after the attack, so the bone had not been cut through.

c) All the big muscles are in the front and in the back of the arm.

d) All the big arteries, veins and nerves are on the inside of the arm.

Therefore, nothing vital had been damaged irreparably. Hum took that arm off for the simple reason that he already didn't like Sev.

I thought that strangling scene was very powerful, particularly with Hum throwing that in Sev's face, and Pru cackling maniacally in the background.

David

Kat..yeah..okay...Sev eaten by gators works for me..or coyotes...or trampled by horses! Whatever

If Val kills Hum there is no way it would "be enough to take the bitch out of her ". She would blame Humberto for jumping in front of the vehicle and it would be ALL HIS FAULT, because it is never ever hers.

David, thanks for the perspective on that!

Susanlynn, ok, but the animals in question would have to sign something releasing the production of any liability in case of gastrointestinal distress. 'Cause that much evil can't be good!

doris, oh, definitely. Or it will be Aldonza's fault again. Because she exists. Or something.

(Did I just say "that much evil can't be good"? I'm really slipping....)

Hellashelle...I completely agree with you about Chris's reaction to the revelation of the rape. That was not the reaction of a galan, a hero. I am so disappointed. There should have been a scene of Cris holding and comforting Al. She should have been his one and only concern after she finally told him the truth. very disappointed. I wonder how Renato will react when he finally gets the news. Maybe the writers gave him the true galan reaction.

At this point, I don't care if any of these people end up together.

Geez..I have to go now and read some Jamie lines before my romance gene completely dies.

Have to say this, not much time to read through comments, so apologize if already stated ( hellashelle, I get that you and I seem to be on the same wavelength here) but that was the sorriest BIG reveal ever.

Now, I'm going to say this, and no disrespect to the young lady because she has tried and done a fairly ok job so far, but Michelle to me last night was a major fail. The revelation scene with Cris, love of your life, time you can at least commiserate with each other, and she sort of came off aloof. Her facial expressin, mannerism, I don't know, it felt to me like she was phoning in that scene. I got zilch chemistry and understanding between those two. Her discussion with Eman was better, but he was the one who had me riveted, not her.

Then when Cris, and I thought Pablo did ok registering complete shock, left, she went into that god-awful run after him and then the flail to the ground. That whole thing was the most unnatural looking reaction I've ever seen. It came off as over-acting and insincere like someone just told her to do that. The look by the guys was more like "cripes, that's bad acting."

Then, what couldn't have been all that much time later, she's flouncing down next to Mopey commiserating with her over Eman. LAUGHING at one point. Ok, I would take it if it was that sort of laughter someone who is sad or nervous or trying to hide tears behind, but it all came off as if the big reveal had never happened to me. Where was her concern that Cris could be doing something really extreme and serious? Hello????

I can't even on most of the other stuff. The Mari apology was stupid and lame and the fact you know they are making it happen with Pato--GRRRR.

I'll see if I can bop in later for the recap and more comments, but I was really disappointed last night in a good chunk of the action.

Sad face

Daisynjay

Meant to add...the writers got a big old dart right in the middle of the picture form me last night. Writing was just horrid.

Daisynjay

Daisynjay...ah, yes, the flail. Thanks for the reminder. And going slow-mo on that...bad decision.

Diva - Yes! Val will blame it on Aldonza for jumping out of the way and taking Humberto with her.

doris, I'm pretty much expecting an "It should have been you! If you hadn't been sleeping with him, he never would have been here!"

But I was wrong about how the Eman/Lola...thing...worked out, so, maybe I'll be wrong about this too.

Daisynjay...I am right there with you about Michelle. This young actress was just not up for this tragic, gutwrenching role.

As far as Vile blaming everything on Al or anyone else, people do this in real life. They do something terrible to someone and blame it on their victims. A psychologist once explained to me that they somehow twist things in their minds to accomplish this. As she said this, she moved her hand to her head and twisted it. I still cannot comprehend how anyone can manage to do this and not admit that what has happened is their fault , but I have seen it happen in real life .

One thing about Sev is that he seems to revel in his evilness. Yeah..I did that...ha.

As to Hum'S revelation about the arm, I think he was telling the truth in the heat of that moment as he choked the guy who has been the bain of his existence for most of his life. He is Candy's cousin, and he has known Sev since they were married , so who knows what else Sev did to him before the Pedro Sixto murder.

Daisy- LOL. Truth! Thank you; I actually fogot about Aldonza's flopping screaming fit. I didn't mean to, but I laughed.

And yeah, Aldonza has seemed over 'it" for a while now. She's been pretty over Cris for a long while, but actually since Adelina died, her trauma over the rape has also felt kind of over. Maybe it's just because her rabia against Sev has been subdued because her giref and grief exhaustion was so prevalent.

I figure they rush Hum to the hospital and Val goes nuts and screams at Aldonza in the waiting room. I bet on an inadvertant admission that she tried to shoot her too because we need some public confessions to get jail time.

HellaShelle, "I bet on an inadvertant admission that she tried to shoot her too because we need some public confessions to get jail time." Oh, can we, please! And put an end to all the "We have no evidence" nonsense?!

Both Pru and Candela know about Vile shooting Aldonza. The truth could come out of either of them... or Sev, who also knows. Although it would more likely be Pru who spills the beans while drunk.

As to the bit about the amputation, I'm inclined to think that Humberto lied to annoy Sev. After the mistake he made that cost a child's life I don't think he would have done anything like that no matter how he felt about Severiano or what he had done at that point. I doubt that the machete blade was sterile.

As for Cristobal's reaction to The Big Reveal I am mostly blaming the writers who have bungled this story element all along. Cristobal should have been outraged on Aldonza's behalf not just because it ruined the potential for their relationship but it could keep Aldonza afraid of men and sex for the rest of her life.

Which is what rapists want.

It seems as though Michelle is really tired of trying to play this role and cannot wait for this novela to be over.

I'm honestly wondering if this is their way of killing the trauma element. Since Adelina's death (or at least since she held that gun to Sev's face), she's seemed deflated, like she's finally, truly, actually tired of fighting. She got ES back, and she lost her aunt. She's gained a brother, but as glad as she is to know that, I think in words and actions she's basically been saying the cost of this fight was too great. In my opinion, it's like they're trying to say that so much other bad stuff has happened (Adelina's death, finding out Rob killed Ray, Eman being her bro, but also Sev's son), that it makes her rape trauma fade to the background. Anyone else getting that vibe?

Eli, thank you! The recap touched on so many things I was thinking/feeling as I watched. I'm going to try not to quote the whole thing, but it's not going to be easy....

"bwahahahaahaha, has he never met his daughter?" Clearly not! That is some deep, deep denial, thinking Val will give birth and suddenly develop a motherly...er...human?...instinct.

"He tells Candela that she and Aldi share something in common, because the thing that happened to her (the rape) also happened to Aldonza and he did it because she told him to get Aldi to leave Santa Lucia." OK, I know I said it when it happened, that I wasn't going to cut Cande slack for it because she told him to get rid of Aldonza, but hearing him say it...no, dude. No. I changed my mind. It's all Sev's fault.

"Oh god how am I gonna make it through the rest of this mess with out Jeronimo?! Call me Candela cause I'm deep in despair." He is sorely needed!

"She wonders, as does everyone on the patio how he (Cris) managed to grow up into a decent human being given the parents he got stuck with." I had to rewind and make sure that's really what she said, I was so shocked!

Susanlynn, seems like it would be exhausting. I would not be surprised to hear that she lost steam towards the end.

"I actually fogot about Aldonza's flopping screaming fit."
Do you mean the one last night, in that awful black top she was wearing and she is kneeling down on the ground? Looked to me like she was phoning it in for that scene.

I get this role might have been exhausting, but hello, this was THE most important of this story...I hesitate to call it a love story because, I mean, where is that? That scene should have been the game changer last night, and if the director though Allie flopping to the ground doing her worst Brando impersonation was the big drama moment...uh, that would be No.

And Cris beating this father up, ok, that was good. But I wanted more righteous indignation.

Interesting point hellashelle on the interp of how Allie just seemed resigned now to what happened to her. But you know, maybe that's what they intended, but that's not how it really came off. I understand she has gone through hell with this, but she also just laid a bomb on her boyfriend and I think the writers lost a major moment to get those two to truly reach out to each other somehow. Besides the hug, where was the compassion, the understanding of what each person was going through, and oh, hell, making us believe these two can actually make it work as a couple in what, a couple days? Sorry, I got NADA with between those two, and frankly, I put it more on Allie and Michelle's portrayal at this pivotal time than anything.

But she was all happy to get the property, and you know, that might be really in the long run all she really ever wanted. Cris is like a side prize that could happen or not, wouldn't really make a difference. Just make her a little sad if it didn't work. THAT is the vibe I got.

That last episode may need to be two years down the road the way things are going.

Only true love I really saw last night was, I forgot his name, the candy house man.

Daisynjay

P.S. OMG - My Captcha was Candy!!

Lol, Daisynjay, that's kind of creepy! (the captcha)

Aw, yeah, Arnoldo Medina...I hope the grandson talks him into changing his mind. I can't believe that kid went ahead and told Lola his grandpa was dead! He might as well have not answered at all.

Eli, you did an amazing job with this.

:Valeria will change her ways and mature into a good mother (bwahahahaahaha, has he never met his daughter?)" was perfect and one of my favorite lines.

So many secrets revealed, buried but bubbling to the surface, oozing with rancid rancor.

I believe Cris' reaction was to the brink of what he is capable of. Not a volcanic eruption but as stunned, revolted and as heartbreaking as his inner core would allow. I also wish he had stayed with Aldonza but at the least, he renounced and trounced his father.

"Oh ladies and gents, she's not upset that Sev raped Aldi, no, she's just sad that this led to Cris finally cutting the cord". I felt all along there is no redemption for her and this defines that for me.

As nauseating as that was, I am equally disquieted by the fact Hum amputated Sev's arm unnecessarily. Forswearing his Hippocratic Oath was unconscionable. Whether giving his life to save Aldonza will be his redemption, it's not for me to say.

hellashelle, "...think in words and actions she's basically been saying the cost of this fight was too great". I totally agree - well said! She is depleted, running on empty..

"Oh god how am I gonna make it through the rest of this mess with out Jeronimo?!" I don't know how I will either Eli. His few brief minutes were the only time I felt there is hope.

Diana

My older daughter is a risk manager , and throughout this whole novela, I just kept thinking that Al is someone who just does not know that sometimes you just have to cut your losses. Because she returned to SL instead of getting some therapy and making a new life somewhere else, more bad things just kept happening to her and those who loved her. We've probably all done it at some point , but Al kept holding on stubbornly no matter what happened. This novela was a lesson in futilty. Sometimes you just have to listen to Disney and let it go. ..or accept the consequences, and there were a lot of dreadful consequences .

Gee...It's scary thinking that many of us share something in common with Candlela. Gee..cold chills there. Have any of you started wearing brauds ? No? ...just me then.

How about crossbody bags??? Who bought a crossbody bag?...Show of hands.

Excellent recap, Eli! Totally worth the wait to read your sarcastic gems.

The Aldonza screaming for Cris scene was not done well. ITA.

Aldonza has been deflated since Adelina died, which is understandable. Eman has provided the only bright moments for her, and now Hum handing her the paperwork signing over ES to her and Eman. She had already checked in with Cris to make sure he was ok, and hadn't killed his father (her biggest fear), so I didn't see anything wrong with her taking the time to speak to Lola about her Eman woes. You could tell she was stifling an "I told you so" when Lola told her what Mari confessed, and her advice to Lola just seemed to be to get in there, tell Eman everything, and get on with it. She even kept Hum outside, so that the two could get on with their talk (or makeout session) inside the house.

Eli - I LOVE IT!!! "Oh. Snap." "(yay?) LOL - These two elements so perfectly describe my feelings about Sombra right now!

Also, I didn't even notice - Cris knocked on the door? They should've totally had him kick it in! (Yeah, I know, it's a heavy door...would've been awesome though!)

Fabulous, Fabulous recap! Thank you!

I agree that the Lola slap was way too weak. The simplicity of "Oh. Snap."

Your snark is always on point.

Add my voice to the choir of complaints about "that scene." Michelle's wailing and flailing was just awful.

Cynthia in the other hand... She killed it!

Eli- By the way, the other worker who held Cris back was Jacinto. Sever is lucky Jacinto and Mel were there, and that he passed out quickly. Had he still been talking after the initial punches, I think Cris would have continued.

Any one else think Sever called all those suppliers and told them NOT to sell to the Las Animas folks? Seemed suspicious that they are refusing to deal with anyone except Sever.

Susanlynn- ...::HellaShelle tentatively raises her hand:: I often wear my hair Cande style (minus the awsome bun at the back because my hair's short)

As for the cross body bags? Mine are not nearly as intricate or beautiful, but I will often use a cross body bag if I'm going out at night. Seems safer.

Eli - "bwahahahaahaha, has he never met his daughter?" LOL, ikr!

"Oh ladies and gents, she's not upset that Sev raped Aldi, no, she's just sad that this led to Cris finally cutting the cord". I felt all along there is no redemption for her and this defines that for me.
Oh wow. I totally missed this line. Damn Cande. That's cold.

Fantastic recap Eli!! There was such a miss-mash last night, I forgot about the knee to the nether-regions by Cande. Brought a smile to my face on this rainy afternoon.

But this: ""Oh ladies and gents, she's not upset that Sev raped Aldi, no, she's just sad that this led to Cris finally cutting the cord". yeah, I cheered her and then got tired of it in a matter of minutes.

If there was one positive about E-Man shutting Lola up with the kiss is we didn't have to listen to her pouty whining as she apologized. The character could have been easier to take, but that habit of the actress has driven me to distraction.

Thanks for being such a trooper, Eli. That was a trying episode for all of us last night. Especially tough when you are trying to make sense of it and put into words.

All our recappers--you guys have been amazing!

Daisynjay

Vivi, I think that's a safe bet that Sev told the suppliers not to sell to Las Animas. Or I could just be misinterpreting his perpetual smirk and his subsequent blackmailing to be let back into the house. No, wait, I'm probably not.

Eli..That was a fantastic retelling of the whirlwind of events . Thanks so much for this recap and all the others that you provided us with.Love your sense of humor and witty wisdom.

The writers really seem to live a good also. Al was slapped by both Roberta and Candy way back at the start of this rude. Has anyone kept a slap count?...maybe in the teens?? ...and one knee-to-nuts. Candy gave Sev a good one.

thank you, eli, for the wonderful recap!
i am in agreement iwith yall that the writers did not do the big reveal justice--from cris's reaction to aldonza's absurd falling to her knees...it was a let down, but at least he knows.
i am adoring cynthia klitbo...she is just fantastic and even though her character has evolved into a drunken and pilled mess, she is playing her to perfection.

as i have sadi before, my spanish is still very much in the learning stages (thank you, nbelated, hellashel for clarifying camino for me), so could someone please tell me about the message lola received from the candy man's grandson and the subsequent conversation between the two men? i was interrupted by real life (hate when that happens, lol), so i missed much of that segment. did he tell lola his abuelo was dead? i heard him ask his grandfather why, but i did not get the explanation. thank you in advance.
i will miss la sombra when it ends, and all of you wonderful recappers and patio peeps....any suggestions for another good one to watch? :)
TGiM

Eli – Thank you for the recap, the snark, and all your service to us Patio Friends during the run of this telenovela!!! Te mando un gran abrazo!

I just don’t understand Pato’s reaction to Mari quitting. The look on his face was strange, like “I bathed and used deodorant today so what’s up?” Wasn’t he devastated that Lola broke up with him. QTH???

”… and say what you want about him but at least he had two arms…”
OMGoodness, THIS was my LOL moment last night.

I have to admit that I loved Aldi grabbing Eman’s phone and telling Vile to get lost, and then hanging up on her. Yay!

" I think that's a safe bet that Sev told the suppliers not to sell to Las Animas."
I agree. Sev was going to kill Solitario the horse just for spite. He most definitely would also let the other horses die of hunger & disease for spite. The guy is nuts.

Yeah, Al really ticked Vile off when she grabbed the phone from E send told her off. Al is a girl who likes to kick a hornet's nest. Mikevis desperate and not used to not getting her way.

It looks as though Proozy is going to overdose soon. Her constant downing of the pill\booze combo is frightening. I find it hard to believe that she can still put together the great hair, make up, and wardrobe. I like her style , and I would wear most of her outfits which look comfy but stylish. Pru is on a slippery downward projectory that seems impossible to stop. I think that she will not survive.

Had to go looking for the word Pru was using to describe Sever as she ridiculed and laughed at Val, because Uni bleeped it out. She called Sever "manco", which means one-handed/ one-armed/ maimed. It also means defective or faulty, which might be why it's enough of a slur for Uni to feel they had to bleep it out.

Doris- Pru saying that to Val, while making that gesture with her one good hand (the other is only used for holding her glass) was a LOL moment for me too.

Sorry...I have to start proofreading . I am hurrying to post in between chores . Mea culpa.

Val has been saying she was going to kill Al for a while now, and has already tried before. She really didn't need an excuse as flimsy as the phone call to do it. Once she learned Hum had actually signed over ES for real, she would have gone gunning for Al.

Vivi - I fully believe that theory! It's a smart move and exactly the sort of thing Sev would do to force Candela's hand.

Doris - Nah. I think Pato has completely accepted that he and Lola just have a nice friendship. He knows his feelings for Mari are much stronger (and why not? Mari's horrible and the thought of her makes me angry, but she was a good friend to Pato. Lola couldn't give him attention for the span of even one dinner.)

Eli...fabulous photo. So funny. Fabulous recap. I was on the edge of my seat watching this last night, and right back on the edge of my seat reading your retelling. You bring a sens of immediacy and naturalness to the recap that makes me feel like I'm watching with you. And we keep turning to each other and saying oh no...or yay...or that bitch, she doesn't care about Aldonza, only that it means she's lost Chris! You'd be great fun to rant and watch with. And I'm sure you'd have great snacks too.

Now, the episode. Yes, some disappointing moments. But every scene with Humberto was riveting and well played. He said everything I wanted him to say. Just perfect.

And...no throwing tomatoes please...I loved the scene between Emmanuel and Lola. He's the character with the most integrity in this story for me. He never wavers. He loved Lola (after that first soul-changing, illuminating, hope-giving kiss) And he never wavered, In like manner, he loved el Solitario and never wavered, risking all for that horse.

So when the moment comes....no sulking, no recriminations, no blather. Lola...hush. Kiss me. Lola...don't talk. Kiss me. Lola...ahhhhh.....

He is exquisitely uncomplicated. He loves. He gives it all. Would not have changed a single thing about that scene. Just sweeeeeeet. And perfect.

As was your recap, dear Elie.

Judy- I'm with you on the Eman-Lola scene. I didn't need anything else, because Eman didn't need anything else to be happy.

I was thinking about Val when Hum told Aldonza she was the daughter he could've had if he'd been a better man. I thought she would be slinking around and overhear that (prime moment for a close up of crying), but I never would've imagined she was already in the car waiting to run her over. Do you guys think that was her first plan or was she just there to surveill and seeth? Because it was night, why would Al be leaving the house anyway?

Val's comment about being disgusted sleeping with Sev was the Zapata comment I wondered about last night. They keep Hum's close to the vest, but Val usually can't hide her true feelings further than the other person's back.

TGiM, yep. It was last week that grandpa Arnoldo told grandson Arnoldo to reply and say he was dead. We didn't knowun til this episode that he actually did it! I didn't think he would!

Was Val maybe there to try to talk to Eman in person?

Meaning, she was there for one thing, but she saw her chance and took it. Or saw Humberto there, got angry, and acted on impulse.

No, Val was pissed because Aldonza told her off, she went thereto kill Aldonza, her dad just got in the way.

Great work, Eli.

Cristobal needs to save the horses, which are now or will be rightfully his. I completely believe that Severiano intended for them all to die out of spite.

As to Vile, I'm ready to bet that she will spill in the belief that she is entitled to kill Aldonza.

Urban Anthropologist, I got this great mental image of Val being cuffed and dragged off by the cops as she wails "But I'm a Zapataaaaaaaaaaaaaaa!"

Vile would be a future Maleny. If she had any more money than she does now, she would be a nightmare instead of a joke.

I'm saying this being 4 episodes behind on YNCELH, but I feel like Vile is the nightmare and Maleny is the joke. Vile has shot Aldonza and now killed her own father while trying a second time to kill Aldonza.

That's way beyond spoiled trust fund baby.

What is a joke about Vile is how she sees herself. I am guessing that Maleny will be worse when her time comes.

Eli, what an outstanding recap & episode.

Pru, "say what you want, but at least he had two hands".
Vile don't seem to want to take the
Responsibility for nothing that she does wrong. She's just as innocent as she can be, poor little hateful nasty heffa.

I so enjoyed the beat down cris gave daddy.
Knocked him out. Yay!!!!
Did cande really not know how twisted and vile sev is, after all these years of wedded bliss? (yuck)!!!
I hope hum doesn't die, I think he deserves a chance to do life right. I hope he gets it.
Granpa arny still might deside to come back,
You know how these tns are with happy endings, all the good people get one. And theirs was a love story that was never finished.(Marga & Arnoldo). Never to old for a happy ending.
That lady that plays pru is very funny. I love the way she was laughing at val.
With parents like hum and pru val and lardo didn't stand a chance but then they grew up and got older and responsible. Obviously not.

Lardo's parents were Irma and Uriel. Two good people who had bad children.
