La Sombra del Pasado, Capítulo 130 (Mx 133): Little Ironies in the Night

You guys, it's been a pleasure. I've had such a great time recapping Sombra, I'm sorry to see it end. I want to thank the rest of the AMAZING recap team and everyone who sat on the Naughty Melon's patio for making my first recapping experience so awesome. For all of those reasons, and for all it's ridiculousness, I'm gonna miss this TN. On to the cap! (I'll edit later)

The Short of It: Everyone treads water as they find out Hum’s condition (not good). Sev takes expected advantage/action while Hum’s alone in the hospital. Pru and Val try to flee the cops. Also, Joaq tells Flavia he wants a divorce.

The Long of It:
“DON’T TOUCH HIM!” Valeria comes flying out of the car, screaming in denial of what she’s just done and begging Hum for forgiveness.

Inside, Emanuel and Lola are still making out when Don Camilo comes in, calling for help. He phones an ambulance as Lolanuel race outside.

Candela roams the ruins of her broken kingdom in the dark. She calls out to Mel and he answers his boss, but she’s not giving an order, just asking for someone to lend an ear for a minute. She doesn’t know who she’ll fight with anymore, now that Sev and Cris are gone. She’s started a war with one and filled the other’s heart with poison. Soon, the town will gossip about them the way they spoke of the Alcocers. Switching topics, she asks Mel to, at some point, take her to where Raymundo died. There’s nothing there anymore, but he’ll take her. He wishes her a good night and blessings.

Ren steps out of his office to gaze forlornly at Silvia’s. As Pato joins him in the foyer, Ren admits he already misses Sil more than he ever imagined. What will become of the firm without her? (Who knows cuz y’all two are hopeless) “And without Mari,” Pato adds. (Yeah, no. Don’t even make the comparison, P.) He fills Ren in on Mari leaving. Two tears escape as he notes how the world is nothing without a woman or a girl. (Here, here!)

Meanwhile, Mari laments that when she really fell in love, it was ironically with Lola’s fiancé. Who will believe her when she’s spent so much time trying to steal everything from Lola just because? Uriel points out that they both have to apologize to Eman for the beat down. Mari wants to call him right now to apologize.

Eman’s a little busy. The ambulance is loading Hum and Valeria is the only one that can ride with it because she’s family. She decrees that Aldonza is the only one to blame for this before hopping into the ambulance. Eman takes Mari’s call, but he can’t talk. “My father was just hit by a car,” he says, in shock. Eman, Aldonza, Dom Camilo and Lola all rush to her truck to follow as Sev’s flunky spies from the bushes.

Even though Mari was surprised by the news, she’s too busy weeping about how she could be the horrible person she is to do more than briefly tell her parents that their new compadre’s been run over. She runs into her bedroom. Irma follows to reassure her that she’s not so bad. She’s telling the truth now and she’s sorry. Everyone will forgive her. “How can I have such mala sangre(bad blood) when my parents are so good?” Mari wonders aloud. “Well…it’s because you’re adopted,” Irma says. “Both you and Abelardo were switched at birth with Cristobal and Eman-“

Sorry, I got bored.

No, Mari’s not adopted. Irma tells her it’ll all be fine. Mari returns that Irma’s a great mom. They both wonder if Val’s up to the challenge of being a mother. (Spoiler, Lagos ladies: no.) Irma wants to adopt her grandchild, but thinks it’ll be hard for Val to give up her baby. Mari rightly thinks that eh…not so much.

At the hospital, Pru arrives, seeming quite sober for someone who spent the entire day in a haze of drugs and alcohol. Val immediately begins explaining. “It was an accident! I swear I didn’t mean to do anything to dad!...I went to see Aldonza, to get rid of her once and for all and I got in the car and dad came out of no where and put himself in front! I swear I couldn’t do anything! The one I wanted to kill was that imbecile!” Sadly, this is said as they walk down an empty hallway, so no one overhears this clear confession. Dammit. Having confessed, Val can now think of more important things. Like herself. “What’s going to happen if dad dies?! What will I do?!”

The Alcocer siblings plus Lola, arrive outside the hospital. They decide it’s best if Al waits outside, seeing as how Val’s a hysterical, homicidal nut job. Al calls Cris to let him know what’s up as E and Lola go inside. Sev’s flunky continues to lurk. (Wait, how did they not notice his car following them from the isolated ES lands?)

Eman asks Val what’s going on. Pru starts to spew, but Eman ignores her beautifully. Val shrugs off his questions. Pru tries to sting again, but Eman asserts that he has more right than anyone to be there and he’s not moving.

Outside, Al explains what happened to Cris. She gets a little shaky as she realizes Val came this close to killing her. Cris pulls her in for a hug.

Pato calls Lola to talk about Mari, but instead she tells him abut Hum. He and Ren head to the hospital.

Joaq is still torn up about Adelina’s death. Flavia thinks they have another chance to save their marriage, but Joaquin is firm: It's too late. They’re getting divorced. Ray will stay with her since Joaq’s work takes up so much of his time. They’ll stay in the house; Joaq will leave. Flavia struggles with losing him to a dead woman. He says it’s even worse still being in love with one.

Outside the hospital, Cris and Al discuss Val’s craziness. Cris hopes Hum survives or the guilt will do Val in. He tells Al neither he nor Sev live at LA anymore. He tells her Cande claims she didn’t know about Sev’s raping her. Al’s surprisingly “no comment” about that. Cris has lost trust in both parents, so regardless he considers Cande Sev’s accomplice in everything. In any case, He’s leaving town after the divorce. Aldonza is about to say something about it when Lola returns and then Ren and Pato show up.

Mel and Dom mourn the Fall of the House of Mendoza. They’ve lost respect for their dueños, but not their nostalgic affection. But, Mel says, the old must die to make room for the young. Cande listens in the corridor, tense with the sad knowledge that everything they say is true.

Ren says that in order to claim she hit Hum accidentally, Val will have to admit she was trying to hit Aldonza and attempted murder is no joke. Meanwhile, Lola and Pato catch up. In one day, he’s lost his fiancée, his coworker, a friend, the woman he loves and his secretary. Lola explains what Mari did and that she and Eman are back together. Pato’s happy for her. No lingering or newfound explosive anger or shock about Mari on either side.

Shockingly, the police are already at ES. Det. Incompetente, Jr. Det. Incroyable and a flashlight are apparently the only things needed to take on the case. Don Camilo tells them what happened.

As Eman looks on, the doctor tells Pru and Val that Hum got hit at the base of his skull (maybe he hit his head on a rock?) and the consequences may be serious. Pru wails that he’ll be a brain-damaged idiot. The doctor says he might not make it at all. Val hysterically begs the doctor to save Hum. She and Pru ask to see him and after a moment, the doctor gives in. “Family only,” he says. Ah, the irony: the two Hum would disown if he could go in and the son he didn’t have the courage to claim is left out. Again.

The kids make small talk about Mari and Silvia. They were so great and now they’re gone and the Law Firm of Those Other Two will be hit hard from the loss blah, blah, blah.  Anyway, then the cops show up and Aldonza tells them what happened.

Val begs the comatose Hum to get better (specifically, so he can forgive her.) She has a super crazy moment where she thinks he responds, but Pru gently tells her no. She drapes herself on him gently and weeps some more.

Outside Eman is much more convincingly upset. Lola goes to get him some tea and he tells her that her presence is a huge comfort. She says she’ll always be with him. As she goes to get the tea, the cops come in and he gives his version. Jr. Dt Incroyable sees a shocked Val reverse through the doorway she was entering. She and Pru hurry through the back exit of the hospital to avoid the police.

Flunky reports everything to Sev in the cantina. Sev orders him to continue watching Al, and adds Cris to the list, especially if they’re together. For now, Flunky should return to the hospital and report everything. When he leaves, Sev exudes satisfaction. “After everything, the siblings will be left without lands.”

According to Pato and Ren, Val’s only chance is if Hum wakes up and refuses to press charges. Eman shares that Hum needs a miracle. Cris goes to tell his mom. When he and Al look at each other, we see the barest hint of a spark of what might have been once upon a time. Now, it just looks more like affectionate nostalgia.

The police don’t find Val in Hum’s room. The doctor points out the back exit. Meanwhile, Pru and Val are pressed up against the outside wall, wondering what to do. They scurry off into the shadows.

Eman slips into Hum’s room. He apologizes for saying everything he said. He was so angry, so...Sometimes the ones we love are the ones we hurt the most. He struggles to keep from breaking down. He tells Hum he was like a father to him: he gave him a roof over his head and treated him well when no one else in town would. He wants Hum to be there when he marries Lola. He wants his children to know their grandfather. He sits heavily on the stool and cries uncontrollably for a second before he begins to pray. Unbeknowst to Emanuel, a tear slips from Hum’s eye as well and he moves his hand towards Eman.

Candela thinks Cris has come home, but he tells her he’s just there to share some bad news. When he tells her about Hum, she immediately thinks Sev did it. Cris explains what happened and tells her there’s no point to her going to the hospital right now because she won’t be able to see Hum. He kisses her head and leaves.

The doctor tells everyone to go home, they can’t do anything else tonight. Eman resists, but Al and Lola convince him to get some rest and be fresh in the morning. They all leave.

Cande apologizes, but she has woken Dom up to keep her company. They discuss Hum and Candela tells her about Val’s pregnancy lies and her sleeping with Sev. She’s sorry she ever supported that…that…ooh! Dom’s glad Cris is free of that alacrán(=scorpion) and she suspected something was up with Val and Sev. She encourages Cande to go visit Hum tonight anyway, no matter how she feels about his spawn.

Flunky checks in with Sev. No change to Hum. Sev dismisses Flunky for the night and ponders…

Aw how sweet: He’s decided to go visit his dear compadre himself! He feigns the expected concern while he pumps the doctor for information. It seems Hum could be like this for hours or months. Playing on what’s left of his social standing and his friendship with Hum, Sev gains visiting rights.

The cops catch Pru and Val in the car, just before they flee town. Val, predictably, blames Hum’s accident on Aldonza.

Sev is left alone with Hum. “Muerto el perro se acabó la rabia,” he quips. (Dead, dogs lose rabid…ness. More easily, dead dogs don’t attack/bite.) And then he begins to smother Hum with a pillow. Hum struggles as Sev coldly holds the pillow down.

Thank you, HellaShelle! Awwwwwwwww, your last Sombra recap :'( I'm so glad you decided to give recapping a try! It's been so great having you on the team and I'm glad we'll still see you on the blog.

I loved the bit about Irma telling Mari the babies were switched...hahaha! I agree, I got bored with her whining and crying about how horrrrrrrrrible she's been. And Irma was great, just saying she needs to apologize and then wait it out, but damn! Did we also have to wait it out? In real time? With the sound of Mari's whining?

You noticed the flunky getting out there just as quickly as everyone else...I was thinking "At least he's not burning down the house!" Maybe he teleported. After all this time, I still haven't figured out Santa Lucia geography. And boy did that guy stick out as being suspicious! He might have had a neon sign over his head that said "I don't belong here!"

Flavia...just no. That's all I can say.

Cande really tripped me out this episode. The whole listening in the hallway and accepting everything Mel and Dom were saying; actually utting the Alcocer name without any cursing; not saying anything like "Well, what was he doing out there?!" or trying to blame Aldonza when Cris told her what happened to Humberto. I don't know if I believe her turn toward the light, but it's at least less annoying than listening to Mari!

I loved, "Det. Incompetente, Jr. Det. Incroyable and a flashlight are apparently the only things needed to take on the case." Finally, they think they have enough evidence to arrest someone for something in this town! Took them long enough!

Though, on the other hand...How did Humberto, the victim of a murder attempt gone wrong, not have any police protection at the hospital?! Way to go Incompetente and Incroyable.

"Val, predictably, blames Hum’s accident on Aldonza." Ding, ding, ding! *drink*

Thank you again, HellaShelle, and I'll catch you on the patio tomorrow :)

Hella!!!! That was amazing! It has been a treat to have you on this team, I still remember when I got the e-mail that you'd be doing the Tuesday recaps, my reaction was "yaaaaaaaaassssss".

God I wish Hum had taken both of Sevs arms, that rat bastard! Grrr!

Thanks so much , hellashelle, for all your intelligent, insightful, witty recaps. You did a fantastic job.

Great one, Hellashelle. Glad you were on this team.

Vile will be selfish to the end, no question. If she doesn't commit suicide at some point she will have to live with this on what little conscience she has for the rest of her miserable life.

Candela is getting what she feared most: Total isolation. With Cris walking away Humberto was the only relative she had. She has no further use for Pru or Vile.

More later.

*sniff*

Oh it didn't hit me until your recap! It's the last week. I'm so honored to have been on a team with you. I'll be seeing you on the blog though and that makes me happy.

Thanks for all the marvelous, snarky short and long recaps!

Thank you, hellashelle. This recap was, as always, just great. It's hard to believe that this was your maiden voyage into the troubled waters of telenoveladom. And you're right; you were a member of one of the truly great recapping teams.

Sweet Val explaining to her mother that she wasn't to blame for this, she was just trying to kill Aldonza. And Pru bought that as a completely legitimate explanation.

Sev's lurker in the bushes is violating almost every rule of clandestine operations, and thus, when the time comes, will be easily identified.

I noticed that there were quite a few shots of Hum's hospital room from high in the corner. Was this just a way of showing the entire room, or might we hope that there is a security camera there?

I wish that Hum had been able to touch Eman's hand. Both deserved that tactile assertion of their devotion to each other.

It amazes me how relationships in this tn can flip so completely, and are taken at face value with very little baggage. Lola in particular.

Yeah, the lukewarm hug between Aldonza and Cris made me wonder how this dying ember of a romance can ever be fanned back to its former intensity.

Sev seems to be really good at suffocation. I wonder if a) Hum is really dead, and b) if some astute medical observer will discern the signs of Hum's murder. If they do, then Sev's goose is cooked, because the Doc in Charge has so rigidly controlled access to Hum's room.

And, finally, I just loved the sight of those cuffs clicking shut around Val's wrists.

Thanks again, hellashelle. Your work on this has made it much more enjoyable for me.

David

Hellashelle – Thank you for the snarky recap!!! My favorite line --- ”Sorry, I got bored.” Me, too! LOL And THANK YOU for all your labors in recapping La Sombra for us Patio Peeps!!! May I buy you a beverage of your choice here on the Naughty Melon Patio?

Pru’s arrival at the clinic in total sobriety was a bit of a telenovela beanie hat moment! My first thought was “did she drive herself there???”

Um, yeah, I FFWD thru the Mari scene. Meh.

Aldi & Cris greeting each other outside the hospital was no warmer than if she was greeting a neighbor. QTH??? Aren’t these two supposed to be in love? Oh. Right. Monkey writers.

Joaq+Flavia = FFWD

Hum moved his hand to try to touch Eman. I was hoping Eman would notice.
Hum moved his hand while Sev was in there. I was hoping he would “flip him off.”

ALMOHADACIDE!!! What next?!?

Hellashelle- I'm so glad you made the move from occasional fill-in recapper, to a permanent member of a recapping team. You were great at it from day one. Thanks for all the marvelous recaps you gave us.

The scene with Eman and Hum was very touching, and I'm glad Hum heard Eman even if he wasn't able to communicate. He'll be able to die knowing Eman forgave him, and considered him his father.

There was just the briefest flicker, as you noted, of the old feelings between Al and Cris when he was leaving. But they both seem to have given up on this love affair. Maybe that's good. Maybe what they have to do is start their relationship from scratch. Actually have a first date, date for a while, fall in love for real with no crazy outside pressures.

I did not ffwd through Flavia and Joaquin because I'm interested to see how the writers are wrapping them up. They are going against convention. Joaquin has not fallen back in love with his wife, and he's firm about the divorce. This never happens in a tn. A divorce of a couple married in the Church, who have a small child. Whoa! I'm surprised.

Sever's henchman was not right behind their truck when they went to the clinic, so they didn't miss a car following them. He knew where they were all going, having seen the ambulance. He didn't arrive when they arrived. He arrived later, as Al was waiting ALONE (PJ would not be pleased) outside after she called Cris and just before he arrived. So some time had passed. But they made enough of a point of Eman and Renato making eye contact with him and seeing his face in the waiting room, that that's bound to come in play somehow.

Hella, thank you so much for this, and for all your amazing, better-than-the-show, refreshing, engaging recaps. You will go down in Caray history with your short/long of it format: enviable, my dear, simply enviable! Darn these weekdays with so little time to comment. I especially loved your coverage of last night: The James Brown, This is a Man's World, and Carole King's, It's Too Late, were perfection! And I got bored right along with you with the extended Mari kvetching! That, the candy house and Flavia were just the things I was hoping not to take time in our precious final hours. Oh, well.

Can Pru be more disgusting? Pru wails that he’ll be a brain-damaged idiot.

And this, dear Hella, sums up the so-called Epic Romance that the writers raped, stoned, maligned and mangeled. Your summary sentence has more grace and style than anything they did with what could have been a great love story:

When he and Al look at each other, we see the barest hint of a spark of what might have been once upon a time. Now, it just looks more like affectionate nostalgia.

Well done, Hellashelle. I will miss you and hope we cross novelas again sometime. I'm such a wimp, 7:00 is about the best I can do. You are what the folks down home would say is a natcha bohn (naturally born) recapper. Caray is lucky to have you!

Lila

Eli, honey! Thank you for yesterdays recap! Fantabulous, Teamie! Gracias!

Hellashelle, you have given us one amazing recap after another. Thank you so much for all the wonderful detail and snark!

Switched at birth! Awesome idea. Would explain a few things wouldn't it? We could dream....

Poor Hum, part of me wants him to have that chance to be what E-man envisions, but part of me thinks he is being lined up to have to "suffer" for his past sins and be Sev's last murder. If Cande is heading to the hospital, wouldn't it be grand for her to catch Sev?

Of course, if Hum has to "suffer" by dying, then they better line up some better stuff for others. If you get my drift.

One consequence of Hum dying is that Val's sorry butt can be charged for murder. She would have the baby in jail and Irma/Uriel would get to have their grandchild after all. So that could be one positive I guess of seeing Hum's demise. Val...like orange dear? Pru- bag lady extraordinaire?

And I am so happy they did not wrap Jaoquin in the noose with Flavia. It would have really made no sense. Let him have a fast forward and find someone else. (We really need a fast forward at the end of this.)

Allie and Cris--wow, just nothing, but I take that more in acting and directing than we're supposed to think their love has sort of gone on vacation. I think both actors have a future, but they need to work on the lingering looks of sadness, angst of a forbidden love, showing care and compassion without gestures...Cynthia and Alex should take them in a room and give a few lessons.

Way too much time being spent on Mari right now....way too much. Like, any. Just ditch her story and leave Pato alone. He and Joaquin can get a bachelor pad.

Daisynjay

Well, Adelina died and she did far less bad things than Hum did. He deserved a future with pseudo- grandkids less than she did. I think what Dom and Mel said was true. In order for Cris, Al, Eman, and Lola to be happy and come out of the shadow of the past, their parents are going to have to die or be considered dead. Hopefully that doesn't include Dom and Mel. Ray, Rob, Sim/Viv, Adelina, and now Hum. Cande and Sever left to go.

Good morning my beloved Patio friends!

Last night's episode was a bit more of a whimper than a bang, but I got so choked up writing the recap, you would've thought it was a Gran Final!

Thanks Diva, Eli, UA, Sara, David, Doris, Vivi, and Lila!

Diva - Yeah, this episode felt a little stretched. Did we need another Mari's repentant scene? Well, you all know how I feel about that. The resignation is only drowned out my eye rolling. (PS: Thanks for adding the links at the end of all the recaps!)

I think they first assumed it was an accident (especially since it was his daughter). If Daisy's right and Cande catches Hum, maybe they'll add a security detail?

As our ever logical Vivi pointed out, the henchdude followed the team and it actually makes total sense. I just keep imagining headlights on the lonely road from ES to SL at night. But that's just my imagination, running away with me.

Sweet Val explaining to her mother that she wasn't to blame for this, she was just trying to kill Aldonza. And Pru bought that as a completely legitimate explanation. LOL, ikr!!!

Yeah, I'm on a song kick. Thank you, Lila for noting my pseudo soundtrack for last night's episode. I'm not well versed in music, but I thought I'd add something extra in honor of my final turn.

Let me echo Lila's "natcha bon" quip. You are a natural, both for the short and long version and I'm sorry you will not be continuing on the fabulous 7 pm team. Also, I felt a little tearful as I sensed you were channeling our dear departed Madaleine with all your wonderful song links. This was in so many ways a somber, sad episode and recalling Mads' too-early exit from Life just makes me even sadder.

So many great lines. Det. Incompetente and Det. Incroyable. For sure. "Pru tries to sting again". Perfect. She IS a scorpion.

And this line:

Ah, the irony: the two Hum would disown if he could go in and the son he didn't have the courage to claim is left out. Again.

Beautifully put. And part of the somber, funereal aspect of this dark episode.

I felt like weeping when Emmanuel did not sense Humberto's reaching out for him. And I will truly weep if he dies at Sev's hand. Praying (but it's just a story, just a story) that someone will come in and see the murder attempt and save Humberto just in time.

Thought the Joaquin/Flavia scene was very realistic. Although women often choose to stay with an unfaithful spouse for the sake of the family, I do not know any men who have. And certainly not any men who were in love with another. The time to fix the marriage was way back before any of the fights and tensions between them started. I think Flavia could have ridden out the return of Adelina if she had been as tender and supportive as she was in recent episodes. But too little too late.

Patio Peeps, maybe it's my time of life, but dang, this telenovela has been depressing. Seeing families break up, dreams die, and numerous cruelties inflicted over and over. I like learning Spanish but it's coming at a psychic cost, I'll tell ya.

And yet we get these marvelous recaps for free, full of humor and wit, and saucy song links. Thanks so much HellaShella. You have given us all so much.

As Mel was saying good night to Cande, I suddenly understoodd how Mel and Dom could stick around. They're so laid back and they knew Cande and Sev would either pull back or bury themselves. Mel and Dom were just smart enough to stay out of their way and plant seeds of good, rather than live in the graves of their dreams.

Huh…So I guess Mari doesn’t have to make any more confessions. No "I stole the money and tried to turn you against Lola"? No "I suspected Val was pregnant with Abelardo's baby"? Typical. But I guess it's better than giving this even MORE time. I still have to suffer through her and Pato's reconciliation after all.

How ironic: Adelina never shared enough of herself for Joaq to understand her when she was alive, but now that she’s dead, she’s past along her curse of being haunted by a dead romance to Joaq, who held a torch for her, just like she held one for Ray all those years.

If other doc knows all about Hum’s relationship with Sev, Cande and Cristobal (which is how he got in to see Hum), how come he hesistated to let Eman in?

Aside from Mari and Flavia, did we have to see what happened PLUS see Camilo, Aldonza and Eman's describe it to the cops? Careful show, your elastic's showing.

Was that the longest Cris and Al have spoken without ending up kissing, or fighting?

Thanks JudyB! I don't think I was around to sit on the Patio with Madeline, but I've seen multiple people express their affection for her, so if I could pay her tribute, I'm glad.

I ran across a number of other songs that were fitting for relationships, just not last night. I still feel like there's one for Flavia and Joaq that better fits last night's mood and situation, I just couldn't find it. Any suggestions?

Well, I really liked your Carole King song. It has always been a favorite of mine.

Nothing comes to mind off the top of my head. Although for melancholy, there's always "When we were young last night". And for Flavia, she could sing "I'll be around...no matter how you treat me now...I'll be around from now on..." But, it won't get her anywhere.

But man! this show is giving me the blues right now! Felt a little better when I realized you teared up a bit just writing the recap. These telenovelas do put us in touch with our own hurts and sadness, wounds we might carry from the past. But hopefully there is healing and moving on as well. In addition to learning Spanish!

I don't want to see any more time given to Mari. Her crap is petty compared to what Sev, Vile, Candela, and Pru have done.

Vile has to be outed over her two attempted murders of Aldonza. Pru still hasn't paid for inciting the riot and the threatened arson. And the assaults.

I'll accept a descent into madness for Candela, but the other three need something a little more public and permanent.

Hellashelle, let me add my sincere THANK YOU for your wonderful recaps. Truly each one was a real treat to savor, and thank you to all the recap team, this has been a most enjoyable early morning get together for coffee and a bit of gossip on the patio, and yes, even an occasional visit to the Naughty Melon.

I look forward to seeing many of you again with another TN.

Hmm...May I suggest Carly Simon's " You're So Vain" for that pompous ass Sev ? I always think of dear Mads when I am strolling down the Memory Lane of songs.

Regarding Mads, isn't amazing to feel you know someone whom you have never met or even seen a photo of. She was such a positive, loving voice here at Caray. I remember that she loved her flavored coffee in the fall.

How about "Super Freak" by Rick James for Violent, vicious, valid, Vile Val.

P.s. I now must prove that I am not a robot by identifying waterfalls.....ha !

"Take Me to Church" for Candy Girl ?

Susanlynn...too easy for Sev, but "Don't go chasing waterfalls...."

Urban Anthropologist, so what do you think--will Val just spill it all to the cops or is there just enough sanity left in her to realizes she probably shouldn't admit what happened because they're NOT going to be as sympathetic as drunk mami? For comedy purposes, I'm hoping her entitled outrage wins out. I may need popcorn in addition to my wine!

HellaShelle, I think Flavia's hoping for "If you can't be with the one you love, love the one you're with..." not gonna happen, Flavia!

I see what you mean about Adlina passing down the curse. At least Joaquin actually did have some sort of relationship with Adelina, unlike Adelina and Ray who never really had anything.

Yes, please, basta ya con Mari! With all the blubbering last night, I thought this might be the "Oh, by the way, I stole from you" moment, but no. Confessions, or off my screen!

JudyB, it's not just you. This TN was filled with angst and sadness and grossness. I'm hoping the next one makes up for that. I could use some fluff after this.

Entitled outrage would be nothing new. The toxic mothers in EPDA and TdA (same story) were the ultimate examples and they got what was coming to them.

And to someone else's comment yesterday: Vile isn't being punished for being sexual, but for her sense of entitlement and lack of empathy with anyone.

That was me. She's been treating the baby like a burden (and so has Pru) since she found out about it...then they kept having the specter of death hovering because she was talking about abortion...getting arrested is the first time something has happened to her that had to do with her real crimes instead of the fact that she shagged Lardo.

Since she was screaming about it being all Aldonza's fault as they pulled her from the car, I think she'll maintain that story into the station. But she's a hairbreadth away from cracking like an egg.

I'm laughing all over again remembering that...and hoping they get to use it against her. I don't really know how that works in the Telenovela Justice System.

I just hope she stays behind bars. Irma and Uriel deserve another chance at effective parenthood and this will be their only shot. If she gets out she will either go back alley or Sev will kill her and I think that Vile deserves to live with the memory of what she did to her father.

I'm mean enough to hope it does haunt her forever and that her mind doesn't twist it so she ends up remembering it as literally Aldonza's fault.

I agree. However, she might also take comfort in her own delusions.

So, in reading the comments I see that Mari still has not come clean about stealing money from Irma at the store. Valgame Dios! I FFWD thru her scenes anymore and didn't realize it. That will be yet another Mari scene, I guess.. Ack.

I'm willing to let the theft slide if I don't have to hear about it...the less Mari, the better!

Hellashella, oustandingly superb recap. Loved the snarky stuff.
Val begs the comatose hum to get better so HE CAN FORGIVE HER!!! Really???
"Val decrees that ally is the blame for this."
"This is aldonza's fault."
Patio peeps val is innocent, we was wrong about her. Shes just a sweet chiiiil. Thats my southern drawl.LOL!! HAHAHAHAHAH.
She gently draps herself on hum". Get your heavy a$$ off your daddy so he can breath.
"She didn't mean to hit dad, she wanted to kill the embecil". Ok, the girl has flown over the coocoo's nest and crashed. Urial and Irma should get the nursery ready, here comes baby lardo.
"Flavia thinks they have another chance".
Well I say if you hadn't taken his child and ran off and shacked up with a murderer, maybe you'd have had a chance. But NO!!!
SEV HAS GONE TO THE LAND OF NO RETURN!!!!!!
LA Diva- irma said to mari,"you need to apologize, then wait it out". But damn, did we have to wait it out too? in real time?with the sound of Mari's whinning? Yeah:-D hahahah!
Look how nice mari is now, all sorry and stuff
Good things come to those that wait.:-) We don't have to see mari again. Yay!!!!
Hopefully someone will come in that room before hum dies.
And last but not least, Cristobel Mendoza and Aldonza Alcocer, they both have a Z in they're name, big deal. Ok nobody goes through that kind of hell and something good don't come out of it. These two people deserve to be happy together. Because evil said no, good should prevail, and it will. The story in this tn has been dark from the start. Its time for some happiness and joy!!!
Hit it barrell!!!!! HAPPY HAPPY HAPPY!!!!!
7:00 come oooooon.:-):-):-);-);-);-)

Maybe I was too harsh with Val. She did ask him to get better in general...it was that her follow up "please get betters" included a plea for him to get better so he could forgive her. Her reaction makes sense, I would also be freaked out if I had accidentally hit my dad with a car, worried about him and myself.

Then again: homicidal nut job.

I think you'll be ok as long as you're never trying to run your arch-nemesis over with a car while your dad is nearby :D

Yeah, no way I'd dirty my hands and compromise my freedom for "La Mari."...Unless they were dirty from a good mud fight with her ponytail for leverage. That would probably be enough.

PS: I forgot to include in the ironies of last night the fact that Sev is smothering Hum thinking that he hasn't signed over the property yet, It probably hasn't ocurred to him that he's also changed his will as backup. Even so, though, doesn't he think he's burned his bridges with Valeria and Pru? Even if Hum hadn't changed his will, has his ego grown so much that he thinks he could just force them to do it simply because he wants it done?

Assuming nobody interrupts Sev (and I know he locked the door, but it's not all that sturdy a door) and Humberto doesn't make it, it's a damn shame he's not going to be around to gloat over that last bit of defiance in person. Sev probably thinks he can force them, is my guess. The easy way vs. the hard way makes no difference to him. Ew...actually, I think he'll enjoy wrenching the property from their grasp more than having it quietly handed over. He's just that gross.

hellashelle- Yeah, I had a good laugh over Sever thinking Hum hadn't signed/willed the property to Al-Eman yet, and that he can get it from Pru-Val. Ha!

Also, I should've mentioned in the recap that Val was lying down in the car (i.e. passenger seat reclined all the way back). I assume this was an attempt to hide from the cops as they got out of town right?

That's pretty much what I thought...'cause it's not at all obvious that the seat was down, and no one would possibly think that Prudencia would be sneaking her daughter out of town. *roll eyes* Hey, Val should probably thank the cops. Just because Pru was able to walk upright didn't mean she was in any condition to drive a car!

Who was it that mentioned that Val has spent most of this tn in bed or on her back-- reclining in bed or on the couch playing on her tablet or phone; sleeping; pouting; on bed rest; having sex with her uncle/Cris/Lardo/Spanish dude. It was appropriate that she even tried to flee the police in a reclining position.

Vivi, I have nothing to add to that but hysterical laughter!

Vivi- soda came out of my nose (it hurts!), that was hilarious!

HELLASHELLE: Thank you so much for the wonderful entertaining, snarky recap.
I haven't had time to read the comments yet as I run back to work, but Doris' stood out because it was in caps:
"ALMOHADACIDE!!! What next?!?"

That gave me the giggles. I would love to think back and recall all the various ways they have killed people off on TNs.

Must run, so...Thanks again Helle!

Hellashelle, your swan song for this novella was wonderful. Thank you for all of your excellent recaps these many months.

“And without Mari,” Pato adds. (Yeah, no. Don’t even make the comparison, P.) made me smile. Favorite line was "the irony: the two Hum would disown if he could go in and the son he didn’t have the courage to claim is left out. Again".

"When he and Al look at each other, we see the barest hint of a spark of what might have been once upon a time. Now, it just looks more like affectionate nostalgia". Very well stated. And what is the cure? I like your idea daisy of “Cynthia and Alex should take them in a room and give a few lessons”. Excellent!

I am seriously wondering if Aldonza and Cris will be the end result. They seem too distant, disconnected and disconcerted. How will things magically be threaded so that all makes sense and they come together in bliss?

"Unbeknowst to Emanuel, a tear slips from Hum’s eye as well and he moves his hand towards Eman". I shed a tear during this as well. David, your "I wish that Hum had been able to touch Eman's hand. Both deserved that tactile assertion of their devotion to each other" was so fitting, there is nothing I can add.

Like Vivi, I am surprised that the writers took the route of Joaquin and Flavia divorcing. This was an unexpected touch of realism. I’m glad they didn’t use the traditional "staying together for the sake of the child" ploy.

I am very interested to see what develops with Renato. Is he going to wait until Aldonza dumps him (again) or is he going to realize he can't live without Silvia and go and beg her forgiveness beforehand?

Diana

Diana, If Renato's going to be with Silvia, I want him to realize it on his own, without Aldonza dumping him. Silvia deserves that, at least.

"Unless they were dirty from a good mud fight with her ponytail for leverage."
That is a wonderful word picture for my imagination. BwaHahahahaaa!

" It was appropriate that she even tried to flee the police in a reclining position."
More BwaHahahahaaaaaaa! Good thing I wasn't sipping anything when I read this, Vivi. LOL

I , too, am sick of Mari and her sibling and whining. Basta. Tonight, I would like them to use a little symbolism and show us the ceremonial letting down of that ponytail. Then, shut up Mari.

P.s. Has Lola expelled that engagement ring yet ?

Sniveling

susanlynn, I think it's in the same place Mari's admission of theft is...long forgotten!

Renato has been keeping a very low profile lately.

Working hard on all of Humberto's stuff--will, property transfer, divorce--I guess. And/or the cases Silvia left behind.

Nah. He's working on that heart knowledge. He must be feeling pretty dumb. He chased Aldonza for so long, so hard, so focused...and now he wants Silvia. He probably feels like the dreaded Mari with her Pato situation. Or he feels like all the men ever accused of wanting what they can't have just because they can't have it.

Well, if he'd just make up his mind! :D It's not Aldonza he's missing and he hasn't been spending much time with her, either.

How about this for a first:

Cristobal and Aldonza marry in the church.
They never consummate their marriage.
They have three children via in-vitro fertilization; surrogate optional.

I'm not sure the necessary medical procedures would be any less traumatic.

UA - I like it. Sombra: introducing a new era of family into the world.

Diva - that's why I think he's lying low. He's scared because he realizes he might not actually love Aldonza and he's trying to figure out what he really wants.

Susanlynn - if Lola has not passed that ring by now ( it HAS been a while) that might explain why she has been so grumpy. Traffic jam.
