Muchacha Italiana Viene a Casarse #16 Tue 9/15/15 (Mex 20-21) Half-reveals

Federica and Eloisa view the footage from this morning at the police station.  Federica feigns concern.  I'm sure Eloisa's concern about the family's rep isn't feigned at all!

The bicycle cab thingie's owner sees the two "thieves" kissing and shouts at them to stop.  Thanks a lot, dude.  Though, there were some weird shadows, so if they could maybe make it to somewhere with better lighting, so I can properly evaluate the technique….  Anyway, Fiorella and Pedro make a run for it!

Eloisa attempts to lecture Roxi, but it's not like that ever does any good.  Federica is having a grand old time watching the scene.  And Roxi is thrilled at her fifteen minutes of fame.  She blames her temper tantrum on the cop.  Suddenly the question of who was doing the actual "drunk driving" is raised…and Roxi takes the heat for Benito.  Gael and Joaquina overhear this.  Eloisa calls her an "inconsciente" (thoughtless person) who would need a few more brain cells to be "en sus cinco" ("in your five"; in possession of all five senses; firing on all cylinders; sober).  Eloisa gives up on yelling at her and sends Roxi from her sight before she goes after her with her cane.

Somehow, amid the running, Fiorella got her coat on.  Pedro's smiling when he says she gets him into all sorts of scrapes.  He says they can't be running around like [horny] teenagers.  But boy does he like her!  She just lights up his world…and he's been into her since he [literally] ran into her in Italy.  He doesn't know how she ended up in Mexico…Fiorella remembers her "fiancé"…and that has the same effect on her as a cold shower. Suddenly she's the one pointing out their class differences and saying it'll never work. He's even ready to talk to Eloisa, but she says to just forget it, forget the "bacio" (kiss).  She's the maid, he's the boss, and that's it--"Finito!"  It's for the best, she tells him.  He asks if she has anything to tell him and, of course, she doesn't take the opportunity to answer him and instead walks away.

Fidel, Osvaldo, and Sonia don't know where Pedro is.  As he sneaks up on them, he calls Fidel and tells him to take the others home and come back for him.  Fidel makes the excuse that Pedro is having dinner with the guy who invited/pressured him into coming.  And wouldn't you just know it, Pedro's cell phone battery was dead, so they can't call him.

Fiorella calls herself stupid for kissing Pedro.  Benito just happens to drive up and she claims she was lost and just wants to get home because she's freezing.

Gael wants to know why Roxi lied about Benito being sober.  He claims he's concerned that Benito might try to blackmail her later.  And that he didn't follow her to the club.  And wants to know if she's ok after Eloisa yelling at her.  Did I miss it when Gael offered to take her away from all this and she said she'd be into that as long as he could bankroll it?  'Cause she's reminding him that that's what he can do if he wants to "help" her.  More immediately, he can figure out a way for her not to have to work.

Out on the porch, Sonia tries to convince Osvaldo that Pedro must be with Fiorella.  Her theory is shot when Benito brings Fiorella home.  Dante confronts Benito about "letting" Roxi drive drunk.  Benito is confused, but catches up quickly and says "You know what she's like."  Dante says it had better not happen again.  Next time, he goes home. "And get that stupid smile off your face!"   Yeah, yeah, Benito, she defended you.  Whatever.

Fiorella tells Gianna all about the kiss…and that they're not engaged…or dating…and she's not going to be his mistress.  Gianna praises her for playing hard-to-get like in the telenovelas…soon he'll be chasing after her.  Yeah, Fiorella's not playing.  She's not going to go out with him.  Pedro's perfect and all, but what about Vittorio?  Gianna's totally Team Pedro and thinks Fiorella should keep it up with the smoochies.  "You really think the owner of this house is going to marry a servant?"  Gianna reminds her that she wasn't always.  She's a hardworking woman with nothing to be ashamed of.

Gianna tells Benito she's got to walk 3k a day for her treatment.  (Is that one of the guard dogs lounging in the background?)  She asks why he moved there and he hints around it before taking her hands, gazing deeply in to her eyes, and asking to tell her a secret…he's in love with Fiorella.  This would be a good time for a patented Gianna temper tantrum.  Where's the water hose?!

Family breakfast.  It's Maximo's first posthumous birthday.  There will be a mass later and Eloisa wants them all there.  They'll also have a dinner.  And tomorrow the boy-grandchildren will hunt (despite Gael's whining), Eloisa and Julieta will go on a spiritual retreat, and…?  Sergio whines about not wanting to go hunting, so he'll stay home with Roxi.  I guess that means Federica and Sonia are going on this "retreat" too?  Federica asks why HER father's birthday isn't celebrated like this.  "Because I married Maximo, not your father."  "But if it wasn't for him, you wouldn't have any of this."  Uncomfortable looks annnnnnnd….

We jump to Pedro's office.  Osvaldo gives him a hard time for skipping family time.  Sonia announces the arrival of the Italians and then tries to find out where Pedro really was last night.  She strikes out and Pedro greets Fabio and the other Italians.  Fabio drools over Sonia, who butchers something between a "gracias" and a "grazie."  Osvaldo reminds Fabio that she's HIS wife.  Pfft…like Fabio cares.

Fiorella gives Eloisa her condolences about Maximo's death.  "He was like a father to all of them," says Eloisa.  Uh…because maybe he actually was, biologically speaking?  Just saying.  Eloisa goes on and on about how Pedro takes after Maximo.  Maximo was the love of her life, and they went through all the best and worst together.  Eloisa has a flashback to Maximo, in their bed, in pain.  He asks her to do something she says she can't.  "If you love me, you will."  In the flashback, Dante is in the room watching.  [CONJECTURE ALERT: it seems like maybe…Maximo wanted her to help him die?  So maybe Dante did what Eloisa couldn't?  And this is their big secret together?]  Eloisa hopes one day Fiorella finds someone she loves like that.

Business meeting.  There's a problem with production at the plant in Monterrey, but Osvaldo is sure it will be easy to resolve.  Well, ok, then, it will be Osvaldo's job to improve production.  "You're always asking for more responsibility."  Uh, don't be airing the dirty family laundry in front of your business associates, dude.  But I think Fabio enjoyed seeing that.

Federica sips tequila and complains about the circus going on for Maximo's birthday.  Dante thinks she's drinking a little early, but Fed says she's got to do it to get through the homage to Maximo.  Dante agrees he had his bad spots.  But he also did some praiseworthy things.  "Name one."  In a flashback, we see a young, feisty, angry Dante being rescued from juvie (or maybe prison) by Maximo, in exchange for his loyalty.  Federica gloats that he can't even think of one thing.

Osvaldo asks for the report on the Monterrey plant, but Sonia doesn't have it ready.  Fabio sees Osvaldo calling her incompetent.  She tries to get him to not chastise her like this in public, but Osvaldo says she needs to get the report done and get to the Mass on time…or does she need a Power Point to explain it to her?  "DO YOU UNDERSTAND?"  Sonia gives a curt "si."  Osvaldo walks away and Fabio pops up to say "All couples go through bad spots, especially if they work together."  Uh, dude, no.  Just no.  He offers himself as a shoulder for her to cry on.

Gianna takes her anger with Benito out on an innocent plant.  Gael wonders what's going on and Gianna does a standard teenage "Why does my entire life suck?!  Nothing goes my way!" except, she's dying, so, maybe it's a little justified.  Gael says someone with a "mal estrella" (a bad star; born under a bad star; unlucky) wouldn't have such a great smile.  Truly.  Also, he identifies with her.  Gianna disagrees--he has everything!  Ah, but he feels rejected and out of place.  His parents liked his brother better and he never knew why.  Gianna says maybe perfect happiness doesn't exist.  Gael says everybody's got problems.  Gianna's getting her optimism, and her smile, back.  Simona comes running up to tell Gael it's time for Mass.  She agrees to run alllll the way back to the house to say that he's on his way.  After an awkward smile, Gael gives Gianna a "see ya" and takes off at a run.

Sonia complains about Osvaldo to Fabio.  He gives her some great advice about being more independent and not depending on her husband…and he's going to show her.  He pretty much proposes they have an affair.

Fiorella sees Pedro and asks him if he isn't going to mass. He blasts her for being so familiar with him.  Fi tries to talk to him about his sadness for his grandfather, but he says he's also angry because of her.  Fiorella says she's not worth being so angry over. "If you were so unimportant, I wouldn't want to be with you."  He's angry that she can't be with him and she won't tell him why.  He wishes he'd never met her.  Before Fiorella can go running after him, Benito comes walking up and Fi asks for a favor…she needs them to follow Pedro.

Sonia did it with Fabio.  Thankfully, she didn't let him take video, like he suggested.  Dude, no, I'm not kidding.  He seriously suggested they record the event, for posterity.  Since she won't give him full marks on his performance, he offers to give it another try.  More would-be-empowering-if-he-wasn't-just-after-sex talk from Fabio.  Blah, blah, blah, enjoy each other, "que los demas digan misa" ("the rest of them can go say Mass"; let them preach; who cares what anyone says/thinks).  "Misa" reminds Sonia she's supposed to be at Maximo's memorial service.

Benito is driving at 20 kph and Fiorella wants him to step on it.  He agreed, right?  He asks if she's got a thing with Pedro and she brushes off the question.

Osvaldo's driver (ex-driver?) sees Sonia leaving the hotel and getting into Fabio's car.  Dude, that's some flat after-sex hair.

I guess Maximo's Mass is being said at the house?  To a half-empty room, Eloisa talks about what a great guy Maximo was--generous, noble.  And their love was always greater than their problems.  His force of will in business made the family what it is today, an example of strength.   Federica snaps and says the old man was a bastard, a thief and a hypocrite.

In town, Fiorella stomps along, with Benito in her wake.  She thinks she sees Pedro at an outdoor café.  Fidel's presence confirms it for her.  He says that Pedro is playing chess with his grandpa.  It was their thing.  This is how he'd rather remember his grandfather.

Ghost!Maximo tells Pedro his game is over, but Pedro should keep playing.  Pedro says he isn't prepared for this, and their old sayings about there being no doubts in business aren't helping him.  Pedro wishes his grandpa were really there.  "Pretend I am.  I'm listening."  Pedro talks to him about this woman he thinks he could love forever, but…he feels like life is complicated.  "So's chess.  Every piece has a part.  The king is in charge, but the most important piece is the queen."  Fiorella comes and stands by Ghost!Grandpa's chair.  With one move, she calls "Jaque" (Check).

Federica is sloshed.  She declares that Maximo played at being the good guy, but he was just as corrupt and ambitious as the rest of the Angeles clan.  Eloisa tells her to shut it.  So does Osvaldo.  I say, in tequila veritas.  Get on with the frijole spillage already!  She tells Osvaldo he only wishes he were like Maximo, but he doesn't have the guts, or the power…or the money!  Dante tries to make a grab for her, but nobody puts Feddie in a corner!  Federica now starts yelling at Dead!Maximo that she hopes he's rotting in hell.  Meanwhile everybody's staring at her and Eloisa finally says that if it weren't for Maximo she'd be out on the street now, and without a cent.  Federica counters that maybe it would have been the other way around…as Dante drags her away, she screams "Maximo stole from him, he was a hypocrite!"

In the square, Fi is now calling "Jaquemate" (Checkmate).  Pedro's in shock and she asks him to talk to her now.  She demands he listen to her.

Benito tries to get info out of Fidel, then he impugns Fidel's eyesight and it is so ON!  Fidel can certainly see Benito for the nosy little punk he is!

Pedro wants to know why Fi rejected him.  She says she didn't, it's just obvious they can't be together…look at her uniform!  Pedro says he's cursed.  All the women he loves leave his life--his mother, Aitana, Tania…and now Fiorella.  Who's Aitana?  His fiancée…ex-fiancée.  He gave her a ring and she accepted, but then…Fi can't even let him finish the story, 'cause she's jealous.  And, hey, wouldn't he be jealous if he found out she was engaged?  Pedro's annoyed that he's trying to tell her something important about his past and she's avoiding it.  "Just tell me why you don't want to be with me!"

Benito = nosy punk.  Fidel = annoyed.

Fiorella swears she's not trying to avoid him, but…she needs time.  That's all.  "To keep playing with me?  To get my hopes up?  The keep deceive me with your lies?  Leave me alone!"

Vito tells Diana he's single and probably going to die that way.  Diana says a guy like him should be enjoying life…with somebody.  Someone who knows how to heal his wounds.   Um, from the way she's sitting on his desk, it would appear that she's applying for the job?

Drunk Federica is still drunk.  Possibly more drunk than she was before.  She says she deserves more!  Dante tells her they have to be careful if they want to get back what was taken.  "But we don't have proooooooof!"  Ah, but Dante has found something…a key…the key to Eloisa's safe!  How did he get it?  She keeps it on her even in the bath.  Dante says tonight is the night…once Eloisa leaves for her retreat, they can get into her safe and get the proof.    Basically, Fed says Eloisa and Maximo cheated her father out of his money.  There is much, uh, kissing, I guess you could call it, or Federica smushing her drunk face on Dante's, during this scene, amid all the actual talking.

Back in the living room, the rest of the family discusses the antics of Drunk!Fed.  Pedro missed it, as did Sonia.  Eloisa has cancelled dinner and gone to her room.  Sonia also exits to do "work."

Pedro apologizes to Eloisa for not being there. He needed some alone time.  She knows exactly where he was, and she's glad he didn't see Federica's "show."  Not that there's any point repeating her drunk ramblings.  Pedro goes off to pack(?) and Dante comes In to report that Federica is asleep in her room.  Eloisa is afraid that Federica knows [HISTORY ALERT!] what happened between Maximo and Gabriel.  Dante declares this impossible…it happened so long ago.  There's no way she could know.  "Yes, when Maximo ended up with all of Gabriel's shares in the company."  Dante says that's an elegant way of putting it.  "But we know that Maximo cheated his brother."  Eloisa replies, "Among other things."  Duuuuuuuuuuuude…so Drunk!Feddie is right?  Wow.  I'm so disappointed in Eloisa and Maximo.  There had better be more to the story than this.

Fidel is going to drive Eloisa and Julieta to their retreat.  (As he hugs Eloisa, I get a look at his arm tattoo, "Vivre et laisser vivre", live and let live.  In French)  Pedro's going to drive himself to the ranch for the hunt.  Osvaldo insists on Sonia going with them.  Pedro jokes about Sonia needing to ditch some of her luggage.  Sergio insists he loves animals too much to  hunt them…not that he's a vegetarian.  He bids the "savages" a fond farewell.

Then he heads to the employee quarters to hand over some bottles of fine booze in exchange for their silence.  He's throwing a party, and they're invited.  Fiorella is offended by Sergio's shamelessness…and Gianna is offended by Fiorella's being offended!  She grabs a bottle of booze and declares that she's going to the party!  Fiorella shouts after her, but…good luck with that.

Sergio welcomes everyone to his party…the house is theirs until Eloisa is back!  Gianna pours herself a glass of champagne, but Benito takes it away from her, saying that booze is like women "Go easy or you'll end up dry, depressed, and out on the street."  Shut up, Benito.

Federica wanders up the stairs, unnoticed amid the throbbing music and the lights.  And now it's time to open the safe…tomorrow!

Hey Diva, Thank you so much! It was a great recap and I really appreciate your eye--and ear--for detail ("Is that one of the guard dogs lounging in the background?" Funny enough, I noticed that dog too.)

Well, poor scorned Pedro copped an attitude, guess we don't blame him. And clearly Fifi's conscience is smiting her (she's an "engaged" woman). Ah, true love is already on the rocks.

I'm not understanding all the cryptic remarks passing back and forth between Dante and Eloisa and Dante and Federika. Then throw in a few poorly-lit flashbacks, and...that's when I'm so grateful for the recaps!

Thank you for the recap. I only watched half chapter but I noticed that this was another edited chapter. They cutted several scenes from maximoS birthday mass. They only passed eloisas speech and not osvaldo, gael, and roxy.

#20 n #21 were shown from MX

Good morning, 5ft. Gee you did a wonderful job on this. Your eye for detail really shone!

Well, I guess the Italian Stallion didn't satisfy Sonia enough to allay her concerns about marital fidelity and family obligations? Her later statement that her obligations as Osvaldo's personal assistant were never ending left him with a look on his face like, "Huh? What is she talking about? I'm an incompetent boob who hasn't done anything. Why is she so busy?"

I am enjoying the back story on Freddy's dad and his interactions with Max.

So, what was the deal with the Mass. I never saw a priest.

Fi can whip Pedro's butt at chess? Wow. Note to Pedro: There are unplumbed depths to this girl that you need to delve into before you become so dismissive.

Thanks again, 5ft. I really enjoyed your take on things.

David

Wonderful Kat!! I actually was annoyed with most of last night, but reading your recap I realize we needed to watch all the antics, emoting and stupidity to get the bits and pieces of past intrigue that affects our story and characters. Right now, though have to say, I just want to yell "Out with it!!!" on the whole Eloisa, Freddy, Max stuff.

There has to be more to the story because I can't imagine Pedro having to deal with the disillusionment of finding out Gramps was a crook. Seeing Freddy, wondering if the brother was a total loser and the "trick" on the shares was to salvage a company the brother was destroying...something along those lines.

I'll put up with this storyline if the writers promise no more Freddy/Dante kissing scenes. I just finish eating dinner when I watch. Talk about acid reflux.

So we want a G&G pairing, but it looks like Gianna is into Benito? Crap. Don't hate Benito, but though I thought they would be the pairing, after Gael, like that twosome much better.

Ick with Di and Vitto. But maybe she'll take his mind away from Fi. Di, Fi...whichever.

Thank you, Kat. I had major comprehension issues last night. I swear this episode felt like it lasted for two hours. I was cranky and migrainey. Thank you for being there to tell me what happened.

Thank you Kat, loved it.

"Benito = nosy punk. Fidel = annoyed" Sonia = easy

I'm not impressed with Fifi at all, she throws herself at Pedro, he bites, and she gives him the stiff arm. She's the same petty thief that tried to extort Pedro and again taking advantage of him by donning a maids uniform but barely dusting. The best thing about Fifi is Gianna.

Hola all. Perfect recap, Diva, which is never surprising when you're at the helm, but always greatly enjoyed :)

"Wow. I'm so disappointed in Eloisa and Maximo. There had better be more to the story than this." Ditto on this. I was hoping Fed was 100% wrong, wrong, wrong. If it's really true, then that will definitely sour this TN for me. Though I guess it would explain why she's not forced to go to work in the office like the rest of them.

So Roxi protected Benito's job, huh. Shrug. They're all marked for redemption and turn arounds (except maybe Fed and Osvaldo. Not too sure about either or them), so I guess it's best to start early. She's still wretched though.

Ugh! Now we have to sit through the protag not telling the galan the "why" of their not being together? Ugh, again?! Boo!

Ah! Tofie, Gianna? I'll agree Fi is hella annoying (and bossy. and ridiculous) with this new track she's on, but Gi's at least as annoying, imo. Maybe we're supposed to believe that she was overprotected all these years, but they've given very little indication that before their dad died she wasn't allowed to do anything, so I'm not sold on that. And even if that's what I'm suppose to assume, her tweenie antics are not endearing her to me at all. The only time she's sufferable is when she's talking to Gael and I can see her glimpses of future maturity. Then he leaves and she morphs into a 12 year old again and I just roll my eyes.

Kat-It just registered that you did TWO recaps yesterday in addition to everything else you are doing for the blog. Thank you again!!!

thanks so much, Kat, for that lively, detailed recap.

OMG ...things escalated quickly, no ? And what the hella was Fed wearing ? ...the tighty capris and the onesleeved top. I guess this is what happens when she has one ti many martunies and loses her hat. And those kisses (?) With beefy Steven Segal??? ..no..just no.

well, someone finally took Sonia up on what she's been advertising, but..ewww..Fabio is so skeevy.

And what was up with Fi busting in on Pedro's chess game with GhostAbuelo...rude. Tease. Not fair. You told him that you two cannot be together....so why are you still in his personal space ?? P.s. Dark hair and blue eyes...dress shirt with the sleeves rolled up...thank you...I feel cheery .I like it; I love it; I want some more of it.

I agree that both Fi and Gi are annoying, but not as annoying as Roxy the Racoon (teehee, Lila).

The thought of all these loose cabins with rifles is scary. Yikes

Crazy Feddy was right up in Eloisa's facade during her rant. I hope she used a little Scope before that scene. Gotta go and teach passive voice...sigh..no...I don't want to.

...cabins????...CANONS

Was "up in her facade" an autocorrect or in purpose? Because I'm totally stealing that for daily and recapping use.

I guess because I have missed the last many episodes, I am not annoyed with our two Italians. I understand why Fi is so protective of Gi, and would also not be thrilled about my barely 18 year old sister with a heart condition partying and drinking with middle aged Sergio and his friends, in the house where I work no less.

I do wish Fi would tell Pedro why she's now stiff arming him all of a sudden. Hey, maybe he'd help her find this mystery fiance so that she can resolve her situation.

I did enjoy the bits of backstory we got about Max, his brother, young Dante, Pedro's fiance, and Gael and his mystery parents (does this mean Osvaldo is his brother?). I also enjoyed the chess game with ghost Max. I'm sure there is more to the story of how and why Max took his brother's shares.

Thanks so much Kat, for another great recap!

Gracias, Kat. Alex is right; they gutted episodes 20 and 21.

I am inclined to agree with Daisy. I think Gabriel was a screw-up and Maximo salvaged the company by perhaps buying out his shares at a lowball price. Possibly Gabriel lied about all this in future times. So Pedro is the new Maximo and Octavio the new Gabriel.

Does that mean that Osvaldo is the younger brother of Federica? They haven't told us that but if not there's another brother we know nothing about.

If I were Eloisa I would have grabbed Federica by the hair and tossed her out on her arse for that display.

Party: Fiorella sent Benito to babysit Gia out of concern. He stopped her from guzzling the entire glass. Rox came down the stairs. Sergio made some complimentary remark about her dress (black thin-strap cut-off top with crystal studs in front). She addressed him as "Tio" but he said "Not Tio; Sergio. So I think he knows she's his half-sister. She was rude to Gia when she saw her about to dance with Benito and started making a scene.

What was missing, Part 1 (Second half in next post):

There was a flashback with a younger Maximo supervising Pedro and Osvaldo playing ball. Looks like he was a good grandfather but he showed a very slight favoritism for Pedro.

There was more to the chess scene leading up to the argument. No new real info, though. Benito would have interfered but Fidel told him to mind his own beeswax. Benito told him he was a friend of Fiorella's, so Fidel backed off a little.

There was a later kitchen scene with Simona and Fiorella where they talked a little about Gia, but no new info. Just Fiorella's anxiety about her. Ramiro entered the kitchen later and heard some of this. (I was mistaken about him leaving this family's employ; sorry 'bout that).

Roxana -- after a petulant preamble -- spoke lovingly of Maximo, saying he was like a father to her. Joaquina dropped her tray at this (OK, we didn't need this part).

Sergio spoke lovingly about his father, as did Octavio. Eloisa spoke after Sergio, talking about Maximo's generosity and her love for him despite difficulties. Federica acted up.

After Dante dragged Federica out later Eloisa ended the ceremony and canceled the dinner.

Marvelous Kat. Extremely well detailed and very juicy at that.

"This would be a good time for a patented Gianna temper tantrum. Where's the water hose?!", "Gianna's getting her optimism, and her smile, back" and "in tequila veritas" were among my many favorites.

This family has put the dys in dysfunctional.

Fiorella has a pang of consciousness. A tad late, isn't it? I'm really surprised it is taking her so long to realize she needs to rectify the situation with her "beloved" fiancée.

Assume Benito and Ginnna will be together in the end. He's become a central character and it seems logical.

I wish we'd see more of Osvaldo in something other than mad jealousy mode. Sonia is easy (as you noted), without morals or heart. But beautiful, certainly.

I was touched by Pedro playing chess with Max. I'm starting to like the actor more and more.

daisy, your "Ick with Di and Vitto. But maybe she'll take his mind away from Fi. Di, Fi...whichever" had me smiling.

ITA on the Fred/Dante "romance". Basta!

Thank you Kat!

Diana

Part 2; Consolidated from Mex episode 21:

Vittorio was robbed in his office at gunpoint by thugs in suits. Diana was there at the time. They took whatever cash was in Vittorio's desk and Diana's wallet. In the process of emptying her wallet one of them took out a photo of her baby. They demanded her necklace, but she refused to surrender it. One pistol-butted Vittorio before they left. Diana crouched down next to Vittorio who reached back to put his hand protectively on her head.

In a later scene she did the first-aid thing on Vittorio's head and the back of his neck. She apologized, thinking that the thug hit him because she wouldn't give up her necklace (which was only a thin 22" gold chain with a modest pendant). He said not to worry; he has a hard head. He's tired of thugs and criminals (so is his trattoria mobbed up?). He revived the issue about children, asking again whether she has any. She denied it again and he asks about that photo.

Another later scene with them she tells him that the baby in the photo is her nephew in the US whom she loves but hasn't yet met. She asks whether he has any children and he tells her no. No nieces or nephews either. He has never been married so he speculates that he will die alone. She told him that was unnecessary, that an interesting man like him should and could have a companion for the rest of his life.

Final scene on this was between Diana and her mother, who guessed that Diana has her eye on Vittorio. She accused her of hoping to get his fortune when he dies, but Diana didn't take offense. She doesn't come off as a basic gold-digger; she's doing it for her son (whose name I think is Beto). However, Mama (whose name hasn't been revealed yet) reminded her that she lied about having a baby. Diana said that revelation will happen in good time when she and Vittorio know each other better.

I think she is holding this info for after the first boink or hot weekend.

Oops; the stuff about the party should have been the last paragraph in that post. I also left out a conversation between Pedro and Gael in the car on the way to the hunt. They talked about women but I don't think any names were mentioned.

I am really peeved about this editing and especially because I'm now afraid I jinxed this series with my comment in the last discussion. It is annoying me that they seem to be doing the same hatchet job they did on PSMA.

While Vittorio is old enough to be Diana's father the idea of them as a couple is far less egregious than that of him marrying Fiorella no matter how that came about. Pedro could pay back whatever he sent (although I would argue that he was actually returning a favor to Mario) and Fiorella would be free to be with Pedro. If Vittorio could see Diana and Fiorella in the same room for half an hour he would see that Diana would be a far better choice for him.

However, for the purposes of this story he will probably stand on principle and insist that Fiorella marry him.

Octavio has no sense of proper business behavior. That ugly scene where he was putting Sonia down is exactly the reason that working with family is a bad idea.

Diva! Grazie, Gracias, Thank You for this wonderful recap! Can't react much or read comments. At work. See y'all later! Love your Alter!Egos symbol. Gonna steal it!

Diva - Thank you for the recap!!!

Urban - Thank you for filling in the edited scenes!

I've only watched the first half of this episode so far.

We were never shown just HOW the family got hold of that video of Roxy at the police station, were we?

If I had to wear those gawdawful (that's polite southern-speak for 'fugly') leggings Freddy had on, I would be doing Tequila shots, too. Just sayin'.

Fi's sharpshooting at the fair were impressive, and now she's a master chess player? That girl haz skilz.

Osvaldo = Assvaldo

Sonia's dress (not office attire, girl!) was spray painted on. No wonder Fabio was drooling over her. Eeeew.

It's completely understandable why Gi likes Benito over Gael. Benito has a job while Gael is a stoner loser. Hopefully, in time, Gael will redeem himself and end up with Gi. Gael seems like a nice enough guy.

Dysfunctional Family dynamics:

Enabler = Eloisa (she keeps these people around her, pays the bills, makes nobody suffer consequences, and has the illusion of control via her money & hidden cameras)
Hero = Pedro
Scapegoat = Osvaldo
Lost Child = Gael
Mascot = Roxy (because she represents everything that is wrong with that family and puts it out there.)

The back story that has piqued my interest is Dante's.

Gianna being the best thing about Fifi (she is) doesn't say much for Fifi, I agree. Both girls are very fortunate Fifi is pretty or they wouldn't have a roof over their head or a full stomach. Fifi's game with Pedro is disrespectful at best toward his largess. Maybe he'll tire of it? Naw, the poor guy lives on an island with sharks around and desperate for some honest lovin.

As distasteful as Federica is I kinda understand her butthurt.

True, Fiorella's beauty and charm is definitely serving both her and her sister well. Ah, it would appear that the bold and the beautiful are also the blessed. At the very least, the beautiful have it significantly easier than us "average" folk.

I could understand Fi's panic if they followed up that scene where she remembered Vitto with one of her speculating that after hearing that Vitto paid their way to Mexico, Pedro would assume she really is a user. Though she is working and did get a job (with Tania) immediately after running out of funds rather than put all this energy into tracking Vitto down so she could milk him for his fortune, so that should help prove she's on the up and up. My moment of eye rolling for her came when she was indignantly demanding that Pedro listen to her after crashing his "one"?"-man chess game. Why is she all demanding if she's not going to give him a significant explanation? Oy!

I agree - I definitely want to know what's going on with Dante's background and why he's decided to betray Maximo('s memory).

We don't know how long ago Maximo took over the company. Federica could have been a child and her cousins not born yet, so whatever there is is known only to Eloisa and Dante, who is probably meant to be older than Sergio. Eloisa praises Pedro and compares him to Maximo, which I'm sure is all about his competence and business talent. Sergio probably was doing his playboy thing and completely unaware of what happened with the company shares.

He doesn't work either, but that is on Eloisa. She could have made him work unless he has proven incompetent in the past (which we don't know, either).

Fiorella is not playing games. If she were she would be comparable to Sonia and these two are as different as any two women could be. She is afraid to tell Pedro about Vittorio because that would not only distance him but make him think her cheap. And I think calling her "Fifi" makes her sound cheap. I also think she works as hard as any other female servant in that household.

She would never have accepted Pedro's money (other than her pay) if Gia's life were not at stake.

BTW, if she has a heart murmur they can give her a pacemaker. My uncle was born with a heart murmur when nothing could be done for it. He had a pacemaker put in when he was about 50 and he made it to 88.

Drinking a whole bottle of champagne would haave put Gia's life at risk; Fiorella was right to send Benito out to babysit her. I'm not sure whether he realizes how important that was.

Thanks so much, Urban, for the missing parts!

"Does that mean that Osvaldo is the younger brother of Federica?"

I don't think so, since Osvaldo calls Eloisa and Max abuelos, like Gael and Pedro do, while Fed calls them tios. From what Gael said about his brother being favored by his (mystery missing) parents, I assume Osvaldo is Gael's brother.

OK, so that means that there is a missing son whom we've heard nothing about. We need to stay on History Alert.

I agree completely about Federica's leggings. On Roxana they would still be fugly but understandable. How about red ones with that black top?

If Gael is Osvaldo's brother, then he is also Pedro's brother, right? I can't see über responsible Pedro letting Gael live the lifestyle he has. Does not compute.

Doris- No. Pedro is the only child of Sergio and his dead wife. He is the cousin of Osvaldo and Gael. There is a missing child (children) somewhere who sprung from the loins of Max and Eloisa and produced Gael and Osvaldo.

It would make Fifi sound cheap if Pedro knew her arrangement with Vittorio and perception is reality. If she's not gonna tell then leave him alone or make up some lie if she can't stay away.

Don't know if she does as much as the other help but she spent a decent amount of time last night following Pedro. She ran up, licked his hand then peed on his boot.

Fifi's not playing a game of hard to get as Gianna assumed but from Pedro's perspective it's beginning to appear so.

Thank you, J! For all I know, I'm not fully understanding the cryptic remarks, either. But I'm pretty sure about the dog in the background...though he seemed more inclined to guard his little patch of lawn there than anything else!

Thank you, marla!

Thank you, David! Yeah, Fabio must have a diamond-hard ego not to take it personally that Sonia was, if anything, more dissatisfied after than before.

Thank you, Daisynjay! I agree...and the longer they drag out this "mystery" about exactly what Max and Eloisa did to Gabriel, the more I worry that it's going to be sort of a dud reveal.

Thank you, sara! It felt a little long to me as well...I can never tell if that's the episode or the fact that it takes longer to recap than to watch! Yesterday was my one day "off" this week, so I figured I'd cram in as much recappy goodness as possible :D

Thank you, tofie! I'm not completely happy with Fiorella, either. If this were a different kind of story, it would be because she read the diary and knew Pedro couldn't resist a damsel in distress and was totally playing him. In this one she's just...conflicted.

Thank you, HellaShelle! Well, Roxi protected Benito's job, but for her own sake and not his. Still, I think they're telegraphing that those two will end up together.

Thank you, Susanlynn! Ew, Fed's leggings, though...somehow they still managed to be baggy, and she grabbed the waistband and hiked them up at one point. I hope the costume department loses those permanently! I'm loving your "facade" line :D

Thank you, Vivi! Well, true, Gianna shouldn't be drinking with that heart condition, probably...and the medication she just started taking that's making her dizzy. Ay, the foolish stubbornness of youth!

Thank you, Urban Anthropologist! Oh, I'd say if Sergio didn't want to be called "Tio" it's because he thinks that makes him sound too old.

Thank you, Diana! I actually think Sonia does have a conscience, but somehow she's got it in her head that she's this brilliant sexual manipulator and she's really just...not. I wish she'd quit trying and get the hell out of there.

Thank you, Lila! I can't take credit for that. It's something from computer programming...it's a way of denoting different instances of the same thing. (Uh, no, I'm not really a programmer, I just know enough to get myself into trouble!)

Thank you, doris! The cop was selling the video to someone, I think, and that's who posted it on the Internet. Or he posted it himself. "Osvaldo = Assvaldo" Priceless!

HellaShelle, that's a good question--if Dante had such loyalty, why is he betraying it now? And I'm not going to accept the answer if it's something to do with some emotion he feels for Fed...it's going to take more than that to be believable!

Urban, thank you for the background info on this family and its history!

Two points:

Unless there is something else going on with the heart, a pacemaker is not a primary treatment for a heart murmur. A heart murmur is caused by a deformed or poorly functioning heart valve. It is audible because the blood doesn't flow smoothly through the valve, but rather squirts through the valve, which is what makes it audible. It is treated by a variety of things including medications, and surgery. A pacemaker, on the other hand, is used to treat problems with electrical conductivity in the heart.

Point two; Although there can always be problems in family businesses, there are also many examples of this being a successful business model. In my family, my grandfather, my uncle and my dad operated a business for many years with harmony and success. Also, my wife and I worked together for most of my professional life without any disharmony or other ill effects.

David

David, thanks for the rest of the medical stuff. I'm sure my uncle developed other issues by the time he was 50. But from what I read Gia's condition does not guarantee an operation. The rules of telenovelas probably do, just as they guarantee toxic families.

The thing is that novela families with family businesses are always dysfunctional. Considering the Angeles family dynamics they should not be working together. I think Eloisa's intentions with Sonia, Rox, and Gael are good but it puts too much pressure on Pedro to whip them into shape.

Pedro will succeed with Gael in the end but the other two are hardcases. Even the threat of poverty and no allowance hasn't put the fear of Abuela into Roxana yet. As for Sonia I agree with Kat about her thinking she's All That And A Bag of Tostitos but she's running into some very hard-headed men who are capable of seeing through her. I also think that Fabio is going to be trouble down the road.

Considering Osvaldo's propensity for screwing up Pedro could have made the most serious mistake so far in putting him in charge of getting those three to work. It brings out the worst in him regarding Sonia and it is probably completely ineffective with Roxana.

Doris-I loved your dysfunctional family dynamics list!

Am I the only one who is having a hard time believing that Memo from La Malquerida grew up to be DANTE??!!!

Wow, UA. You made my head hurt with what was done with the UNI Chop and Dice device. This TN with all the characters and back stories is hard enough to keep track of, and then they are already pulling that? What's the big hurry?

Kat, I sort of am with you there on finding out the whole intrigue of the past family heads will be MEH. Kind of like the "big reveal" in our last TN with the passing of the deeds...wound up pretty much meaning squat with the way the newer owners and generations were looking at things. Seems to me, with what we saw and UA filled in for us, if we didn't have Freddy stirring up the pot and being the resident Beyotch, maybe things wouldn't quite be so bad with a few folks.

But I'm also laying some of this blame as we move along on Eloisa. Not the best mother it seems, as her spawns seem to be spoiled and non-productive and she holds her own on secret keeping and favoritism, which is never the way to get people to work together. Not overly impressed with how she operates either. I cringe when she demeans every statement uttered by anyone who's name isn't Pedro. Some deserved, some not so much. People paying for the sins of the parents?

Daisynjay

Daisynjay- I thought from episode one that Eloisa and Max must have something to do with the majority of their offspring and grandkids being lazy, manipulative, losers. If it were just one of them, I'd give them a pass. But ALL of them, except one (Pedro)? That's when you start to question parenting.

The ability to run a business well does not translate into good parenting. Maximo probably spent too much time at the office and Eloisa may have been too concerned with everything being perfect, including behavior. Not good traits in parents.

This is comparable to situations in our world where high-profile CEOs and conservative politicians have kids in rehab under assumed names and daughters getting secret abortions. No surprises to me. There can also be lots of in-fighting over who inherits what and how much. It is possible (although US lawyers do not advise it) to disinherit adult children. I wonder whether it is possible in Mexico.

Diva, so many astute asides, “This would be a good time for a patented Gianna temper tantrum.  Where's the water hose?!”  “Dude, that's some flat after-sex hair.”  “I say, in tequila veritas.  Get on with the frijole spillage already!” Thanks for your detailed, INFORMATIVE recap. Like Sara, I had difficulty understanding the dialogue last night. You were needed today....

Like many others, I got behind after being out of town, it really takes a lot of time to catch up because the episodes keep on coming.......

Tofie: "I'm not impressed with Fifi at all, she throws herself at Pedro, he bites, and she gives him the stiff arm. She's the same petty thief that tried to extort Pedro and again taking advantage of him by donning a maids uniform but barely dusting.” I really want to like Fifi, but in my heart of hearts, I think she is unwittingly selfish and that disturbs my approval of her character.

Susanlynn: “And what was up with Fi busting in on Pedro's chess game with GhostAbuelo...rude. Tease. Not fair. You told him that you two cannot be together....so why are you still in his personal space ??” Yes, I agree!

Doris: “If I had to wear those gawdawful (that's polite southern-speak for 'fugly') leggings Freddy had on, I would be doing Tequila shots, too. Just sayin'.” Excellent point!

Doris: Enabler = Eloisa (she keeps these people around her, pays the bills, makes nobody suffer consequences, and has the illusion of control via her money & hidden cameras) Yes, yes, yes

Daisy: “But I'm also laying some of this blame as we move along on Eloisa. People paying for the sins of the parents?” The novelas have a way of sanctifying some people and vilifying others, Eloisa is getting a kind hand from the writers.

Young “Dante” had light eyes in his black and white flashback unlike the dark eyes of our current Dante!!!

UA, I wish it were that only conservatives an CEOs had problematic children, then we would only have half as many broken youth suffering. As I see it, addiction and avarice is spread equally through all types of humanity.

Sandy in TN - I was too distracted by "young Dante's" good looks to notice his eye color. Dante needs that tee shirt that says --- Inside every older person is a younger person wondering WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED?"

Sara and Kat, concerning the "facade" comment. I have to be honest and admit that I stolevthis term from an Outlander recap\screencap. A character is testifying at the leading lady's witch trail, and she tells the judges , " Claire struck me, and not just verbally or metaphorically , but actual palms on my facade." These recaps are hilariousky outrageous . I think the person who wrote them was actually born in Peru and Spanish is her first language, so she would be a dynamite telenovela recapper. She is the bomb. Check out her amazing humor at " Outlander recaps Killing Time ."

Doris, I need the "WHAT THE HELL HAPPENED" T-shirt!!!!

The flashback was in black and white, but younger Dante clearly had blue or light eyes...

Sara ... Was that Memo in the flashback of Dante ? If so, the guy must have had a very hard life. Then again, I had a high school class reunion in July and some of the good looking dudes I eent to high school with were irrecognizable while others had improved with age .

On the same topic, Doris, I think, sent this to me:

The Four Stages of Life

1. You believe in Santa Clause
2. You don't believe in Santa Clause
3. You are Santa Clause
4. You look like Santa Clause

I'm in stage 4...

Young Salvador Pineda (Dante), back when he was a hottie and when he used to play the protagonist:

I will have to check out those recaps, Susanlynn. They sound funny.

I'm pretty sure that was Memo. I'll wait and hope Vivi confirms or denies. ;-)

I don't think Eloisa's getting that kind of a hand. It's obvious that she's pretty awful. In the first couple of episodes, yes, she got a kind treatment, but ever since they've been giving the "villains" of the piece their support: Sonia's never been accepted and is constantly belittled for her lack of "the elites" knowledge; Gael has been ignored, belittled and spoken over his whole life; even Roxi - horrid and annoying as she is - has shown that a lot of the time she's living down to Eloisa's expectations without really being asked why she does what she does. Eloisa's been shown as hard, judgmental, elitist and dismissive across the board. Gael and Roxi are very different in how they disappoint her, but you'd never know it from the way she treats them.

But none of these people are children. If any of them went to her and sincerely demonstrated that they wanted to be more responsible, wanted to put the family first, wanted to development themselves and simply asked for help to do so, I don't think she'd deny them that help. And they all know Pedro's a favorite and isn't above giving people a helping hand, so if they find Eloisa too unyielding, they could try asking Pedro first. I'm actually still annoyed that they all jumped in to bring Roxana back into the fold. I think a swift kick out the door and some time without her generous lines of credit would do her a world of good. Yes, she pays the bills (or trust funds or missing parents do, by way of her accounts), but she made it clear in the beginning that she doesn't like having these people around her and pays off bills as a way of not having to deal with them face to face. It's not the most responsible way of doing things and she supposedly raise their lackadasical parents to be useless, but at their ages, there's blame all the way around.

I've been mostly ok with Fi up to now, but this "I can't tell Pedro why we can't be together" thing is just dumb. Maybe I'm just tired of the trope?

Sara- Honestly, I wasn't really paying a lot of attention during the flashback to notice. Sorry, amiga.

Ha ...Loved the four stages of life...ho, ho, ho, oh no.

No worries, Vivi. I don't think I watched do enough of La Malquerida to be sure. Ah well.

Dante was quite handsome in his youth. Thank you for sharing those pics.

Hella, I completely agree with every word of your post, I just think that in the end, Eloisa will be standing with the good guys. All your descriptions of the family are correct, but that is how we see it. I think the writers are painting Eloisa as the sympathetic family matriarch vs the vultures, not the reason for the vultures. The fact that she "gets" Fifi, and supports her against the rest of the family, puts her in the good guy column and her standing in the end will be written accordingly. Also, she is Pedro's advocate, and he is the galan. I don't really care for her because of the many reasons that others have posted today, but, unless she dies a dramatic death, she will be standing in good graces at the end!! IMHO Perhaps I misreading something, it wouldn't be the first time!!

No, I don't think you're misreading things. But as opposed to some TNs where the good guys are all good all the way, I think here the "baddies" will be redeemed and the mistakes Eloisa refers to in her and Max's past will be revealed, thus tarnishing her sterling reputation and I feel like she's been so mean in slinging the mud right back at the vultures, that she'll have to soften at some point and take some responsibility for their crappy behavior. It'll be like Pedro's having to soften, but worse because Pedro's not usually cruel, just ...uncompassionate? Is that a word? But yes, I think she'll be forgiven (and now that you mention it, she might die too. I could totally see a deathbed confession/blessing/revelation, etc. coming from her).

You're right though, she's not in the bad column. Once whatever happened with Fedora's dad comes out though, I think the waters will get cloudy.

Hella, "I feel like she's been so mean in slinging the mud right back at the vultures." That's exactly how I feel about her. Actually, it might be nice to see some upward movement in Eloisa's character from present day perceived clear water, to cloudy, then back again to redeemed clear.

I like uncompassionate as a word, but it is getting the red-lined treatment on my computer!!!!

Crazy day and by the time I get done reading recap and comments, it will be time for the show. But thanks Diva, as always.I got as far "in tequila veritas" and "spill the frijoles already" and loved the juxtaposition of food and drink! Heading out to teach class. Back later.

What, what do you mean there's no Santa Clause???

But I digress, I think Eloisa is playing that part of the controlling mothers we've seen in shows that aren't evil, but by having to control every aspect of their kids' lives, they are annoying and come off questionable. She just has the multi-generational thing going. Even if these women have done something iffy, they are redeemable by the end. This not necessarily being a deep dark drama, I don't think we'll see any worse than she is now, but my guess is the charm of FiFi will smooth her rough edges. Of course, our resident heroine will somehow get everyone who has a chance to see the errors of their ways, or make something of themselves, or make Eloisa like them get their better ending. Guesses will see Fifi start to do that soon, having a talk on behalf of someone soon and Eloisa will lighten up ( and Freddy can choke on her food...NOW THAT I want to see.) if it's not Fifi, it will be Gigi.

Daisynjay

Ha. ..I see a movie in the TV listing on Starz tonight that would be a good title for this telenovela. .."Home Sweet Hell."

Hi LaDiva, a superb recap girl. It sounds like
Ol maximo was a bad bad boy. And it don't
Sounds like granny was to happy about it, but she couldn't do anything about it, cause
Back in those days women were best at home Takin care of the house and kids. Fred
Has reason to be pissed, ol max done some
Dodo on his brother and granny know about it.
Now, that don't mean she agrees with it, she
Might plan to correct it in her will. But freddy
Don't want to wait that long, so shes got a plan.
And gael, "my parents liked my brother better
Than me", yall whats up with that?
This family has secrets comin out of the wood work, or in their case the marble, granite, and the quartz work.
Pedro, "getting upset because fiorella is being Familiar with him", really dude? Wasn't
It a few hours ago his tongue was waltzin with her Tongue? I'd say shes very familiar with you. And if shes engaged to vittorio, why is She playin tongue tackle with pedro? This show keeps getting interestinger and interestinger. From what I saw in the advance tonite gets deadly. Good stuff!!!

I think Pedro was Keeping Up Appearances with that directive to Fiorella. He can trust Fidel with knowledge of his intentions but nobody else we can identify.

If things do turn deadly I hope there is no redemption for the guilty party. I had huge issues with how MCET finally dealt with Isabela, who deserved to go to prison and didn't.

We discussed Freddy's Memorial Misa Meltdown, but the look on Sergio's face during the tribute was worth all the weeks we have devoted to this novela. Soooooo priceless.

Freddy's meltdown with accompanying yoga pants (?) is worthy of the show, "Talk Soup." Not even a toddler in the worst of the terrible twos could have pulled that off. Hope her knees were still in good condition after she dropped down to the floor, I would have to see a orthopod after that stunt.

One theory that keeps running through my mind, regarding Eloisa and her attitude toward her flock of vultures, is that perhaps Maximo really ran the show and spoiled them all rotten. The bad parenting may have stemmed from Max. Eloisa may have deferred to Maximo all their married life, because some marriages function that way, esp. in telenovelaland. Max has been dead a year and maybe at her age, Eloisa has no idea how to reform this brat pack with which she is left. Just a Crockpot Theory™.....

Wowwee! What a WONderful discussion today, guys! Love it!

Doris. When Roxi was in the police station showing her arse, one of the policemen set his cell phone up and started recording. He must have sent the footage (inchage) to Freddy, one of many (surely paid) stooges she's probably got all around the greater Two Rivers area. . .and beyond.

Sonia was raped by her husband and then slept with the Italian Stallion, she has to be preggers. Maury Povich moment in our future?

Good point, Sandy. It's possible that the Italian creep knocked her up, but if she's pregnant this will take time to play out. She will probably be walking on eggshells all through her pregnancy.

Which is what she deserves.

Thank you, Sandy in TN, JudyB, Nina, and anyone else I might have missed. Your comments and enjoyment of this show and my smartassery are much appreciated. It's concert week, so I'm off to do some singing and I'll catch up with you all tomorrow!
