Muchacha Italiana Viene a Casarse #39 Fri 10/16/15 (Mex 53) Fiorella and the Three Stooges

Ciao, Muchachita Patio Peeps!  I'll pick up in Benito's room where Fifi has had a justified little meltdown in response to Vitto, Pedro and Benito all arguing about her as if she weren't there.  Adela suggests she gets some fresh air and Fiorella agrees and they leave together.  The three stooges pick up where they left off, blaming each other for Fifi's fit; Reynaldo ushers them all out the door:  Benny is still recuperating!

Thugs finish Sergio's beat down with a warning and knock him out for good measure.  Julieta finds him on the sidewalk, a passing couple answer her cries for help and call an ambulance.

You know what?  There is no other thing to call this man except Assvaldo.  RPC on the jerk trying to rap to  Alina, the Psychologist at her office, showing up unannounced and absolutely disrespecting her professional and personal space.  He even comes back later with a present.  My pissivity at her is almost as much as that I have for him. She doesn't seem stern enough and while she does unsmilingly close the door in his stupid face, on the other side she seems to smile subtly and look wistful.  He's a butt hole!  What are you looking wistful about?

Roxi tries to tell Eloisa about her crush on Benny but Granny preempts her by asking if she's as stupid as Pedro.  Roxi makes up a story about being in love with a billionaire from Finland.  Granny offers to buy her a one-way ticket. Quina enters and reports the intercom is broken.  Granny goes to take care of it and Quina also tells Roxi her favorite dress has been ruined.  Of course, Roxi dresses her down.  Roxi thinks the ruined dress is one more punishment for not keeping the promise she made to God if Benny survived.

Adela and Fifi walk, talk, and eat ice cream.  Fifi is confused about the three stooges:  Pedro had her love but didn't deserve it, Bennie deserves her love for having saved her life and Vitto is, well, Vitto.  Adela suggests she talk to a priest.  Fifi remembers Freddie suggesting a Psychologist and decides that's what she'll do.

Vitto graciously bids Reynaldo good bye but won't feel safe until would be killer, Pedro, leaves first.  Pedro wishes Fiorella and Vitto much happiness together through a grimace-like smile before leaving.  Weird little scene.

Freddie hires an actor to play a psychologist to find out if Fiorella saw her and Dante kissing.  Seriously?  Okay.  This is a dorky comedy.  Remember that.

Fidel finds evidence that Dante doctored the brakes on the SUV:  oily gloves in the trash bin in the employee's locker room, oil stains on Dante's locker and a confirming flashback of a conversation Fidel had with an auto mechanic and a brake part in Dante's locker.  Dante busts him but he plays it off.  Dante seems ashamed rather than angered at being busted.

Osvaldo returns home and finds Pedro having a drink at the Angeles bar.  They have the most civil conversation I've ever seen between them.  They dance around a bit but both complain of not being able to get something they want very much:  Assvaldo wants a coin (Alina) for his collection, Pedro wants his soul's desire (Fiorella).  Pedro asserts and Assvaldo agrees that neither is free living under Granny's roof.  Pedro would like to tell everybody to take a hike and go far, far away.  Assvaldo can identify as he feels squeezed by the pressure of unexpected fatherhood.  This is Pedro's cue to confess about him and Sonia.  Sonia comes up just as he's about to spill it and claims the secret Pedro wanted to discuss was plans for Eloisa's birthday party.  She claims her idea was a family cruise. Assvaldo is speaking only half (one quarter?) in jest when he says they should stick with a party as somebody might knock the old bag off the boat.

Silly comic relief with Rey and Benny as he dreams about a new life with Fifi in South America opening an Italo-Mexican restaurant and having 23 children.  Adela and Fifi return, he tells her the name of the fantasy restaurant, Benirella, she thinks it's horrible.  She leaves after bidding him a friendly, platonic adieu.

At The Ranch, Julieta has returned from the hospital with Sergio.  They meet Granny and Frederica in the hallway.  Sergio is doing a good job portraying a man with a fresh ass whuppin', I feel his pain.  Freddie doesn't, she laughs with glee that Anibal must've taken his revenge.  Eloisa asks Sergio what happened and even calls him "mi vida."  Sergio is surprised at this expression of concern from Eloisa.  Sergio flows with the mockery to take the sting off Freddie's barbs:  he had xrays but they only showed that whiskey has done more damage to his liver than the beat down did.  Julieta helps him to his room.  Later Sergio convinces Julieta to let him stay in her room.  He doesn't want to be picked on by Freddie anymore.  Julieta is convinced it was Anibal's thugs who beat him up.  Sergio doesn't want to talk about it but says he will take care of it.  Nope.  Julieta points out his sorry state as proof that SHE needs to "take care of it."  Sergio relents.  She kisses and gingerly hugs him.

There is a brief scene where Aitana sings the praises of Granny's accurate assessment that all Pedro needed was a little pushing.  Roxi reminds Aitana of how taken Pedro has been with the Italian chick every since they came to the house.  Aitana feels she's won but wonders if she's had so much of a struggle winning Pedro back because of having gone back on the promise SHE made to God.  "Never make a promise that you can't keep!  The whole universe will conspire to work against you!"

RPC.  Sonia barges into the study to scold Pedro for almost outing the boink that never was.  The best part of this scene is he finally tells her not to touch him and even recoils from her touch, not forcefully enough, but it's a start.  He wants them to confront the family now about their supposed dalliance but she wants to wait until the DNA test is done.  He agrees not to press the issue and thus reduce the stress on Sonia and her unborn baby.  He puts her out of the study.

In the employee's quarters kitchen Freddie introduces the phony shrink, Fibrizio, to Fifi and insists Simoneta leave them alone to talk.

Roxi calls Benny on the phone.  She asks how he's doing and he says badly because she hasn't visited.  Yes, people, her face and voice soften with concern as she talks to him and tells him that she even prayed for him.  He tells her to stop praying and come and see him.  I think Benny was a bit too flip about Roxi's admission of praying because she flips the script and gets back into haughty, classist, dominatrix mode and hangs up on him.  Adela has heard the whole conversation and chides Benny about rapping to Roxi while trying to get closer to Fifi.  Well, Benny's got to hold on to someone who really cares about him.  On the other side we see Roxi lamenting the barrier her all mightiness has built between them.

Back in the employee's kitchen, Fiorella has warmed up quickly to Fibrizio, the fake Psychologist.  He tries to get her to talk about her relationship with her work comrades and events at the ranch.  Fibrizio tries to steer the conversation as Fifi enthusiastically describes her problem.  She loves someone and doesn't know what to do.  Three people love her.   To his asking if she saw anything she recalls something that happened loooong ago:  When she was a little girl playing in a sandbox with a little boy she had a crush on, he threw sand in her eyes.  "The only thing I've ever wanted is to be happy and to get married but ever since that little brat threw sand in my eyes, I've felt that every man has only broken a little piece of my heart."  Fifi looks as if a big weight has been lifted from her heart and liberated by a profound realization!  Fibrizio looks frustrated and bored.

Finally, Dante and Granny are with the repairman who has finished fixing the intercom system.  He gives Granny a handset to test and just at that moment he hears Pedro talking to Aitana.  Pedro wants to get a big weight lifted from his heart as well.  He wants to tell Aitana something about himself that will certainly cause trouble in the family and may change her opinion about him, but he's got to do it.  "One night when I was drunk, I don't really remember it well, but when I woke up I was in my room, naked and in bed with Sonia and she and I did something".  I don't even remember Aitana's reaction but Granny screeches WHAT??  Aitana and Pedro both hear her over the handset in the room where they are, and Granny stifles herself too late.

BUS-TED!

Gracias, Lila!!!!!

The Three Stooges is a perfect name for those three...how they all fit in the same room with the size of their collective egos is beyond me!

"Freddie hires an actor....Seriously? Okay." IKR! I thought she and Dante had pretty much decided that Fi saw them? Hey, ok, if she wants to pay a guy, what do I care. Less money for a new hat, then.

I was already hating Osvaldo...and then he went to the psychologist's office and I thought "OK, there's room for more hate." and THEN he made the whole coin collection metaphor and...my capacity for hating him just might be infinite.

"Silly comic relief with Rey and Benny...." It sure was. I got a real laugh out of the fusion restaurant idea. Just the sheer silliness of it, but I don't think a spaghetti taco sounds half bad. I can neither confirm nor deny that I have ever eaten such a thing. I will cop to having enjoyed a pizzadilla.

"Aitana and Pedro both hear her over the handset in the room where they are, and Granny stifles herself too late. BUS-TED!" Ohhhhh, the look on her face! Come on, Eloisa, you've done far worse than listen in on converations. Don't be shy now.

Thanks for taking us into the weekend :D

Thank you LILA! It was a great recap, and you showed great restraint with the RPC.
The three doofuses stumbling around trying to impress Fifi were all pretty annoying. Has Pedro's head injury caused him to act like a bumbling teenager all of a sudden?
Best scene of the night was Benito fantasizing about the Italo-Mexican restaurante. But does Benito still think he is in love with Fifi? 'Cause he seems pretty serious about Roxy.
Also did we ever learn what happened to Anibal's private investigator when the security guys caught him filming Sergio and Julieta?
Okay, off to dream land, where I will be smacking my lips over the "pizzadilla"...

J in Oregon

J, I was confused about that as well! Benito went from thinking Fi was finally returning his "love" to telling Rox he'd be recovering faster with a visit from her. He's very much a "love the one you're with" kind of guy, even if "with" is just over the phone.

Grazie tanto, Lila. This was a complete episode, #53 in Mexico.

To answer a question: Anibal's PI refused to do anything else illegal; he had been trespassing onto the Angeles property to get the photos Anibal wanted and didn't get because the camera was taken away from him.

When Julieta said that these were Anibal's thugs it tempted me to wonder whether Anibal is mobbed up. FG's character in LQLVMR was from Miami and would have made a perfect Mafioso. Maybe Televisa is reading us?

Didn't mention this yesterday but I actually felt bad for Sonia during the hospital scene flashback because Assvaldo earned that nick in that scene (which was before the curtain went up on this tale). He just walked out of the room while she cried because the baby was stillborn. She should have divorced him over that, but that would have meant losing her status and his money.

OK; sympathy gone.

Buongiorno e mille grazie, Diva carita! You know what? I DID have a sudden realization that this is supposed to be one of those fast-paced, dorky romantic comedies filled with moments of not too deeply held angst because you KNOW those crazy kids are going to end up together and it really helped me calm down about some of the stupid stuff that's been happening.

Dang. Long sentence.

Yah, I could have snatched a knot in Assvaldo's ass! What a jerk! I know Alina is trying to keep her cool but she almost looks like she's playing hard to get and that he can have her if he just tries a little harder. I'm going to forget this is a madcap comedy if she yields and cuss like a sailor!

Please come back later, Diva, and hang with us!

Grazie, mi amica, J in O J! That silly Benito, does he ALSO think he's God's gift to women? Let another comely lass get near him, he'll go after her too! What an idiot and he doesn't even recognize the signs that Roxi is falling for him.

Don't know what happened to the security guy, J. Check yesterday's recap. Arrivederci!

Buongiorno, Urban! e mille grazie! Yes, I thought this was a complete episode, grazie! Hmmm, you know, I think someone else, or maybe it was you, Urban, speculated about Anibal and mob connections. He looks the part. What does she think she's going to do to "take care of it" with Anibal?

Yah, also noticed how Assvaldo suddenly got lost while Sonia was crushed with shock and grief.

Ok. Was there ever a TN stillborn that wasn't really alive somewhere? If so, I'll let this go. I couldn't possibly see what a little alive Sonia/Assy bambino could mean for the story, just a weird thought.

Do you think that motherhood could lead to redemption for Sonia? I am wondering whether it could because she might want to protect that child from Assvaldo. Might be easier if she has a girl than a boy. But I'm not hedging my bets over it. Wish we knew more about her family background, but she never talks about it.

The almost-reveal scene of Pedro and Assvaldo was interesting. I love how Pedro is feeling the pinch and thinks of going far away and how Assvaldo said something about why would this family vacation together when they live together. That's the most intelligent thing he's ever said.

Wonderful Lila. Thanks so much for the detail. I have to watch this one yet (or do I???). Was feeling really comfy, tired after a vacation day of running around in the blustery cool day and promptly feel asleep reading on the couch.

Can't say anyone won me more over or not reading events. Do like the idea of Senor STOOPID getting busted with his admission to the Big-A. I'll give him that, he at least told her. But oh, Grammy Monster is going to be one unhappy lady Monday.

You know, I often think as I get frustrated at the antics in this that it is supposed to be a "light TN", but there's been little or nothing I can look at as a comedy. Guess it falls in between somewhere, but the venom spewed far too often just isn't funny.

Benito is such a Dude Casanova. Little too fast to pull the switch, so I think he may be better suited to Roxy. They both need a good slap up the head to get their act together and can do it in tandem.

Personally, in this tale, if I was one of these women, I'd be going for that college professor and ditch these guys. Yum.

Yeah, yeah, I still hold out hope that Gael will see the light. Still at his table.

Daisynjay

Thaks for the fantastic recap Lila!

Man this family sucks! There's not a good one in the bunch (except for the beautiful, but relatively timid Gael. And Sergio's not really bad either.)

Lila - that's a fun theory, but why would anyone have faked the baby's stillborn status to begin with? The only one we know that would've gone that far is Eloisa and it's the opposite of what she would want (the baby gone, but Sonia still around). Still, that would be a cool wrench to throw in the mix. PS: I could have snatched a knot in Assvaldo's ass! I don't know what that means, but it sounds hilarious!

Benny's just a teenaged boy. He has a crush on Fi because she's still pretty. She's still pretty, so he still has a crush, even though he has a crush on Rox because she's pretty and pays attention to him. He doesn't exactly have a crush on Gi, but he likes that she has/had a crush on him, so he gets jealous whenever she focuses on Gael. If everyone knew not to take him seriously, no one would get hurt.(For a second I thought Benirella meant something gross in Italian because of what Fi said, but Google didn't bring anything up. Did she mean a word that sounds like Benirella?)

You know I hate Roxi, but Sonia's a total B. What is she gaining by keeping this lie up with Pedro? Is she that delusional that she thinks that somehow they're going to end up together? Or does she plan to pull a classic TN DNA switch in 9 months? (Lord God, if we have to deal with this for the entire TN, I'm might have to bail.)

In view of how the events are unfolding in this novela I don't think we can anticipate a time jump. And Pedro should get off the ranch and into a good condo for the sake of his own sanity, but now that Fidel has begun connecting the dots I don't think he will.

Which brings up the following question: Does he keep his personal financial assets separate from the rest of the clan? If not, he's a fool.

Thank you Lila! I loved "the boink that never was."

Buongiorno, Hellashelle, sorellina mia! Thanks for that bit on the stillborn. It's just all still borns I've ever met in novelas always show up years later, alive, well and ignorant of their origins.

To snatch a knot in someone's ass is an old expression from my Southern roots. Just think of what the outcome would be if you see someone and their whole hind quarters are tied in a knot. Not pleasant. It's the reult of opening a can of whoop-ass on somebody! Aren't those old colloquialisms fun?

Hella, Benito is so very young, isn't he? Silly thing. I'll try to cut him some slack. Fifi eventually said "Benirella" doesn't mean anything and Google agrees!

Roxi is trying to soften, Hella, did you see that scene? And yes, agree with you on Sonia which is why I don't see motherhood redeeming her. The baby is just a bargaining chip to get what she THINKS she wants: Pedro.

does she plan to pull a classic TN DNA switch in 9 months? (Lord God, if we have to deal with this for the entire TN, I'm might have to bail.)

I, too, tremble at the thought, Hella! Yikes!

Urban, I hope Fidel gives financial advice and not only advises on matters of the heart!

Hey, grazie Sarita, sorellina carita!

They could work out a time jump. Fi just said she'd slow the wedding down, right. So nothing actually has to change between now and when Sonia's baby's born.

All we need is two scenes: One for Eloisa to tell Pedro to keep his mouth shut "for the good of the family" until after the DNA test (that would actually be a plus because Eloisa might get legit tests while Sonia would absolutely get fake ones...well, if she's smart enough to figure out how). And the second for Roxi to say she will do comply with her vow (or won't. Either way, it's kind of like "whatever, Rox").

All Fidel has is a suspicion and gloves. Even if he got a legit mechanics report, there's nothing that proves absolutely that Dante did it. They'll just say Ramon or whatever his name was snuck back in and cut them. What else is there that would have to pan out now?

Yes, The Roxis and Mari's of the world get to redeem themselves by saying sorry and turning over new leaves. It bothers the crap out of me that they get away with just "feeling really babd about it" and then they get forgiven, but such is lif, I suppose. Now that the main protag on YNCELH has ruined everyone's life, all the Roxis and Maris of the world now get a free pass from me. They're minor villains, not Trojan Horses in their own camps.

Lila, your fantastic recap mirrored the privotal events of last night perfectly.

"Passivity", "Sergio flows with the mockery to take the sting off Freddie's barbs" and "she flips the script and gets back into haughty, classist, dominatrix mode" were among many favorites.

I feel there is little doubt as to who Fi should end up with. ITA with daisy that it is the hottie proffie. We've seen little of him, but he is intelligent, kind and is drop dead gorgeous. Assuming he lacks Pedro's family from hell, what else is there??

I have a question. Why does no one ever think to tell Sergio when his son is in trouble/hurt? He is an after thought when thought of at all. Did anyone tell him about the accident? Did I miss that or was it cut out. Just curious. He and Pedro share a strange father/son dynamic but one I'd like to see flourish and grow. I am so glad Julieta will save him from the big, bad men. I like Sergio but feel he got more of a small smackdown than a savage beating. That crew looked strong and mean and could have inflicted much more damage.

"The only thing I've ever wanted is to be happy and to get married...". I hope Fiorella's declaration meant her being happy includes more than getting married. Marriage is but one aspect of a full life and not everyone chooses it and not everyone who does succeeds. There is so much more to life. Does she realize this is 2015??

Thank you Lila!

Diana

LILA--I had the same thought about the doctor announcing to Sonia that her baby was stillborn. Recalling at least 3 other TNS I've seen where this as a plot device and the baby is aliiiiive! (*"It's aliiiive!": Victor Frankenstein.)

J in Oregon

Mille grazie, Diana!, carita mia! You know what? You're right! I forgot about Sergio as well! I don't think anyone told him. Maybe that's the same day he got his beat down but still, Pedro is his son! No wonder he was surprised that his own mother expressed concern about the beating!

Dear Diana, Fiorella doesn't realize it's 2015 and I don't want her to, I just want these people to give me the fairy tale I signed up for and I want her to get her Prince Charming, not this wimpy dude who doesn't even know when little peter's had action and who is blackmailed by his cousin in law and whipped by his Granny!

Oooo. Did I write all that out loud? Ok. All better now!

Prego, Diana!

Okay, J in O, I know, these little angel babies always survive!

J, love the "it's allliiiiiive". But I would think if there was a remote possibility of either a crooked doctor or Eloisa's interference, we might have seen a young child popping into the plot somewhere. But being Grammy Monster seems to be all thrilled about the baby now, guess we can't put her in there as hiding the baby back then. Orrrrrrrr... can we? She didn't like the 'singer' coming into the family. Maybe then she wanted her gone and has been surprised Os didn't drop Sonia's sorry ass when the baby was lost. Now she figures...hey, what the heck.

My fondest hope is that Fifi realizes that it is wonderful to dream of marriage, but seeing herself in this tug of war with all these men as if she's an object to be won, maybe it would make her think that, though she may not be slated for organic chemistry, she might have a future doing something else that would make her feel equally special that she is good at. She already is aware that men have let her down...she should look to know she can make it herself and then family and marriage can be a part of that later. I can see her running a little shop with all the flowers and goop that goes with wedding tidbits...sort of like the cute tea place that Montserrat had in Robo.

Daisynjay

Heehee DaisynJay: "(Fifi) may not be slated for organic chemistry, she might have a future doing something else that would make her feel equally special..." Hear hear! It's not like marriage/no marriage are the only two options for the girl *(or any girl)!

J in O

Hey y'all, maybe Hell-oisa (thanks, Sarita!) disappears babies. Sonia and Ozzie's angel baby, and who was the little lost girl in the foggy woods in Julieta's nightmare? Was that Julieta herself or a child Julieta had and with whom she made a psychic connection to feel the little girl's pain at being lost. Maybe Hell-oisa is responsible for that little girl's plight.

Just another pot-smokin' speculation.

"Fiorella doesn't realize it's 2015 and I don't want her to, I just want these people to give me the fairy tale I signed up for and I want her to get her Prince Charming, not this wimpy dude who doesn't even know when little peter's had action and who is blackmailed by his cousin in law and whipped by his Granny!"

We've been robbed I tell you! Just like all those scenes in the opening credits that are darling....but were never actually in the show!

I do like fairy tales, but I'm not a fan of our leads. They are both ineffective buffoons who may yammer about "fighting for their love", but they don't do squat.

I much prefer Gael and Gianna. I even like Roxi and Benito (though I do agree with hellashelle, I can't stand when they make a character so odious and then try to foist off a redemption on me. I find that very insulting.)

Crap. Sorry. Comment bomb.

Daisynjay does have a point. We don't see a small child running around, so I'm a little hesitant to say that Sonia's baby is aliiiive. Then again, it's possible they made this up as they went along and they are heading down that road. I'll be on the lookout for mystery youngins for sure.

I giggled throughout Lila and admit I paid only a quarter attention to the actual show but my nose in the recap.

Love me some Janis Joplin, thanks

"He's a butt hole! What are you looking wistful about?"

I swear Livia Brito is the same simple minded motor mouth she was in DQTQTQ and you would think with all the practice she would be good at it, but she ain't.

Fibrizio - kinda understand why he threw the sand, you never shut up

Benito - you're kidding right, one's a madonna and the other like Madonna

Dante - uh, I'll try the gloves on but it they don't fit you must acquit

Sonia - I got me three dogs too but can't get um to sit

Eloisa - just testing my Life Alert

Aitana - well then Petey how bout we go get a case of beer

Osvaldo - it's cause you're taller than me isn't it

Sergio - stop it Freddie it hurts when I laugh

Why Miss Lila, you gave us a good recap to
Study on this weekend. Thank you my dear. The Episode It is kinda comical.
That fake psych guy freddy hired may not get his payment. He was absulutely useless in
Getting imfo about what fifi saw, and sounds
Like she forgot anyway.obviously seeing the two of them kissing does not leave a long lasting impression on anybody. "Yuck". That
Was a wasted filler, they could have come up
With a better scene.
Roxi and aitana really should stop making
Promises to God they can't keep. These two noddle heads are concerned about the universe taking repercussions against them, It's not University who they should be worried about.

Assvaldo is a gigantic hypocrite. He's threatening to kill his wife for ho hoppin, and
There he is with his zipper down pointing at
The lady psych person, whose not being all
That resistant against his flirtations.
Pedro should ship them all far far away and while they're gone he can grow a backbone.
it's going to be interesting to see what that old lady is going to have to say about her eavesdropping on their conversation.

Sara, ITA, that declaration of love that Pedro and Fifi declared to each other. they're not doing anything to show that they meant It when they said it. the first sign of trouble and his backbone turns to noodles and she just gets so pissed she starts talking and just runs away. if thats their idea of "fighting for our love" they are doomed. Her to that old geezer and him to that clingy vine with hair.

Sarita at 12:20! Preach, sister! I tried not to do that rant, Sara, but you're telling the truth. I really have to restrain myself and maybe I'm grasping at the comedy straws our little tale is offering. Who knows why "they" are doing this to our leads. Maybe our eyes and hearts are too 2015 to appreciate the story. I don't know! Please don't let them mess up gael and Gianna. *Sigh*

Tofie! Hey, amica mia! Grazie! Love the list, girl! Sonia, Eloisa, Aitana and Osvaldo -- all side splitting!

Hey, Nina! Grazie, girl!

Getting imfo about what fifi saw, and sounds
Like she forgot anyway.obviously seeing the two of them kissing does not leave a long lasting impression on anybody

Really. Freddie and Dante really think too much of themselves, don't they. Freddie thinks that kiss should have burned into her consciousness like a hot branding iron! Get real, Freddie!

Could quote your whole comment, Nina! I think from now on when I hear vows to fight I just translate that to back peddling, hypocrisy and lying through the teeth!

Sheesh!

HeHeHe Lila, what a fun recap. Happy Saturday and many comical returns. Love all the comments. What an awesome group. Kinda feel a little better about Benito, he is a kid after all. Poor lost Rox. Nobody believes she is capable of change. Why should they when she screeches at the least provocation. The three stooges indeed. I think Fio should choose the old one, get a killer outfit from Fredericks of Hollywood, dress as a dominatrix on her wedding night and watch him drop dead. Honey moon surprise!!!
She can move on from there. One less suitor. The scene with the shrink was so funny. I got the impression she was on to them. Gae brakes my heart. He is abused by everyone. His beautiful face makes him more pathetic. Gianna's friendship is a healing balm. He is so broken he can't even defend that. Assvaldo is a real jerk. Who does that? leave your wife alone when she is most vulnerable. That still doesn't justify what Sonia is trying to do to Pablo. No good deed goes unpunished i guess. He always treated her decently and this is how she repays his kindness? The family is very toxic and her husband volatile, does she want world war three? Itana saps my energy. If there is no ulterior motive, why the desperation? Pablo is not in love her and she knows it.

Hanna

Lila- thank you for the recrap!

Checking in from my phone (out of town) so this will be brief.

tofie - Great list !

So this is supposed to be a comedy? I hope they get to the funny part soon.

Exactly what is Febreeze supposed to gleam from the fake counseling session?

I figured Roxi kissed a chauffeur and she liked it. These two will probably end up together. Yeesh.

Ciao, Hanna! Gracie!

I think Fio should choose the old one, get a killer outfit from Fredericks of Hollywood, dress as a dominatrix on her wedding night and watch him drop dead. Honey moon surprise!!!

Now THAT'S a great plan, Hanna! Hee Hee! So, you think Fifi was on to the "shrink"? Interesting. She looked like she was a little surprised he didn't have some deep insight after her sandbox story. That was cute.

Gracie! Doris! "Febreeze" that's hilarious! He was supposed to find out if Fifi saw Dante and Freddie kissing. Yah. Profound intell, right? Thanks for checking in, hon!

tofie, you never disappoint, but this:

"Fibrizio - kinda understand why he threw the sand, you never shut up"

Seriously. I'm with Nina. Those two "love birds" have me wanting to use ear plugs and dark glasses. Fifi is starting to become too much a caricature of what the writers, director and actress things a young Italian woman is like. And it's getting annoying. Where's Sophia Loren when you need her. Pedro, and I know it's what the writers are giving him, is just amazingly weak and ineffectual. My main complaint on that is that we are supposed to believe this guy is a CEO of a major company. Wonder if he whines at the vendor meetings too.

If Fidel has known Petey since he was a whiney wee lad, he has to know a few tidbits about what went on in this household too. Surprised we don't get more insight from him on that regarding the other characters. This over-focus on Petey still makes me head scratch. (Maybe why Petey's mother drank herself to oblivion--couldn't have the man she loved...who is....

Wouldn't it be fun--everyone in the family has a servant or outsider as a parent that they don't know about, nor does the head snob herself Eloisa? Please writers...make it so.

"Where's Sophia Loren when you need her."

Looking down on the customers at La Dolce Vita. Vito has used her heavily in his decorating scheme.

Hell-oisa. Love it! That woman is hell on wheels.

Nothing was cut regarding Sergio being informed about Pedro's accident; it just wasn't there. The writers might not have thought that a big deal because Pedro wasn't kept in the hospital.

Maybe Fiorella should open a florist shop or get a job as an assistant wedding planner. Of course if the latter the first cclient to show up would be Aitana, just like in EPdA in 1998.

Yah, Sara came up with that. It's a keeper!

Thanks for the recap Lila. I was watching that Sonia's scene crying in the hospital that some of you mention and it was very sad. Yeah it was very rude of Assvaldo to leave her wife alone in the room crying for her dead baby and not bothering to try to comfort her but I think that he was in an emotional shock like frozen just as he was the day in which Gael had the epileptic seizures in the ranch. Didn't Pedro had to scream him 2 times to call a doctor? Not justifying him but oh well he was raised in a family of wild animals in which feelings don't matter and you have to take out your claws to survive. So what else can we expect? Oh by the way I like Mimi Morales's crying, when Sonia cries she makes me feel her pain.

Thanks, Marla! Osvaldo doesn't seem to handle any emotion very well and the one he's most comfortable with is ANGER!

You are right Lila. Assvaldo is like frozen ice. Oh I wonder if he has heart? Does his hate for Sonia besides cheating him is because of their dead baby? Maybe he blames her for that and if that's the case oh gosh that is a very selfish way of him for dealing with the pain.

You are right Lila. Assvaldo's heart is frozen like ice. Maybe anger is his only way of dealing and surviving pain. Not a surprise though being raised by a cold and dictator grandmother.

Daisynjay, I'm feeling you on this not really being a comedy. It's also not a romance. But it's not really dark either. I'm not sure what it is.

I think it's in the handbook that whether a baby is snatched and is out there in the world somewhere depends on whether the mother, who passed out shortly after giving birth, heard the baby cry or not. If she insists she heard the baby cry--kidnapping! Sonia said she did not hear the baby cry, so I'm going with not.

Plus, if Granny were going to make the baby disappear, then she wouldn't have made Osvaldo marry Sonia in the first place, because that inflicted Sonia on the entire family, including her. She wouldn't do that to herself. And with Osvaldo saying she ruined the relationship by getting pregnant in the first place, I'm sure he was told he had to marry her--he didn't defy Eloisa's wishes to do it. And Eloisa's not going to allow a divorce to happen now, because "Scandal!" Gosh, it must be so exhausting to be that rich and entitled and give that much of a crap what people say about you.

Diana, that's becoming an issue for me, that Fi behaves like "getting married" is a life goal in and of itself.

And, hell, ok, have a life goal of getting married, but how about adding some more detail to that, like "getting married to a nice guy who loves me and treats me like a partner in all things." Just because she wants to get married doesn't mean she should settle for just any old schmo!

*snort* Hanna, I think Fi might be able to just leave the Fredericks of Hollywood catalog lying about somewhere and that might be too much for Vito's heart to take!

doris, props for "kissed a chauffeur and she liked it"!

sara, maybe on this show the answer is not "mariachi" but "Sofia Loren" :D

I think assvaldo is a mean SOB like his dad
Was. In that flashback gael had a while back.
Gael couldn't shoot the arrow to his liking so
He told the child anyone that couldn't shoot
That arrow wasn't his son. What a jackass to
Say that to your child whose self esteem is
Already low, constantly being compared to
Brave big headed brother, assvaldo. By the
Way where are their parents? Why are all of these dead and that ol bat Is still there being an annoyance to everybody? There dead and
She's still here, why?

Because "mala yerba nunca muere," Nina! (she's too mean to die/only the good die young, etc.)

In that case gael and osy's dad should still be alive somewhere cuz
He was not only mean, he was nasty
Mean, just like the queen B. Maybe
He's hiding.

On no one telling Sergio about P's accident - they made it pretty clear in the beginning that Sergio pretty much bailed on Pedro as a father when his wife died. As a result, I just think the family doesn't take him into account on the -probably rare- occasions that Pedro's needed medical attention. Now that Pedro's a grown man, it's probably even less of a concern, especially since, as Ua mentioned, it didn't call for a hospital visit.

Sonia - that scene was very sad, but I agree there was a bit of shock in Assvaldo that factored into his wandering off. Still a dick move though.

Hanna - I both son't want to see that scene and want to see it more than anything else on this show.

I don't mind Fi just wanting to get married and have a family. If that means happiness for her, then great. I didn't like her sandbox story though. It somehow made her seem...simple-minded? I fele like that sounds meaner than I want it to be.

I too hope Gael and Gianna aren't derailed. I felt for Gael when he was having a jealous moment and Gianna freaked all the way out over it. Gael is super insecure so I get his reaction and wish Gianna had been more understanding. But Gi's not used to that kind of insecurity and she's young and spit-firey, so I can forgive her too. I feel like that'll be a minor blip. Def more concerned about his not ntroducing her to friends, though now I hope that it's because 1) he's trying to prolong the possibility that it gets back to Eloisa and/or 2) he's so insecure, he doesn't want to introduce her to his friends because he's afraid they're too charming and/or will embarrass him in front of Gianna.

That is so not where I thought the "We were in a park..." story was going. I thought it was going to be like Julieta's dream of a girl calling for her mother, that she was going to be remembering that from her POV and the actor Fed hired was going to end up getting a better story than the one Fed was hoping for.

Instead it sounded like a story about how the boys she thinks are cute always reject her.

Now that I think about it, Julieta's dream was probably symbolic and not an actual memory.

Oh Diva ironically in mexico this telenovela before beginning was so much promoted like the most romantic novela of the last times.

Hm, isn't that what they say about pretty much every "romantic" show? Sounds like somebody needs to write them some new ad copy, lol!

Every TN thinks it's a beautiful loves story about a couple's fight against all odds to be together, prove positive that love always wins out and good triumphs over evil. Of course, to be that, the couple should actually fight for that love. We had that problem in Sombra, and at lease there Cristobal was rock steady in declaring his love the whole time.

And if we're being honest, what do we get? An awkward story of obsession and stubbornness about a couple who are ok being together if it's not too difficult, proof positive that laziness always wins out and if good triumphs over evil it's through sheer luck :p

Diva - Word. And as bad as that was, this one might be on par. It's a little sillier and not nearly as gross, but possibly more annoying.

I think it's "romantic" because we're being given a young woman that is all flowers and care free and only wants the hubby and kiddies while she wears a dress around the house and sings. Personally, I find that a lousy message to send young woman. Nothing wrong in the "romantic" idea falling in love and wanting a family, but in this story she is showing almost a desperation in having to have it, and you begin to wonder how much of it is again meeting the cute guy she can't have and wants. But wow, this time, it'll work. (Odds are when you don't know WHO you really are a best match for, after the big wedding, there's a divorce court slot waiting for you a few years down the road.)

I will also say that Petey is one of the luckiest CEO's I know. No corporate travel, no late meetings, no agonizing over reports. No checking emails late at night. You wonder how much he really wants to be doing that job. And when he marries, hate to say it, a wife that understands that life and they are rather forced to participate in it. It's one of those nitpicky things I have with some stories. If Fi is meant for the CEO wife circuit, can we do her some credit and show her as a feisty, smart woman who just didn't have those opportunities to show her stuff? Instead, they seem to be dumbing her down. Sand in her face? Really? That's her traumatic childhood event that colors her opinions? Dumbing down and becoming shallow? What is that???

When it comes to seeing a shrink a patient doesn't always get to the worst right away. Fiorella might see the sandbox incident as a sign that she would have no luck with men for the rest of her life in view of recent events. We don't know even if she had much of a romantic history prior to the opening episode although it's clear that guys find her attractive.

At this point she is not prepared for the Sra Presidente title. One scene that was edited out a week or so ago was when Vittorio said he wanted to shop for her new wardrobe because her flowery dresses would not be appropriate when she would be expected to help him run La Dolce Vita. The clothes she should be wearing in her current position at Eloisa's would be the same: Solid-colored skirt suits, white blouses, and office-appropriate jewelry. She doesn't want to look "15 years older" and nothing in her youth or teen years has prepared her for any of this.

One of two things will have to happen: Either she will do a Pygmalion job on herself to become the proper corporate wife or Pedro will ultimately change the corporate culture at the family business to be less demanding on his and others' private lives. It sounds like something he needs to do, anyway.

The premise is pretty romantic (I mean it's pretty much a classic Cinderella story except the stepfamily is now the potential in-laws), but the follow through kind of bites.

If they really wanted to, they could've had Eloisa tell Pedro that she would black-ball him in the business world (which still seems a little impossible to me, but I could suspend my disbelief for that). Then she would point out that he promised Fi that he would take care of her sister. How's he going to do that without a job or the ranch (i.e. that beautiful place to live with all of that oh-so-necessary fresh air)?

I suppose they also could've made Sonia more of a problem by having her threaten to abort in front of Pedro (even if she swore not to up and down in her private time) if he ran off with Fiorella. Then she could've pulled a guilt trip about his dad abandoning him.

As it is, Pedro just likes to throw hissy fits over other people who are into Fi and is scared to stand up to his grandmother, regardless of his big talk. And Fi for her part just doesn't want to me "mean" to Vittorio because he came through for her in the darkest moment of her life. And now Benito literally saved her life. She pretty much had to blackmail Pedro to get the job.

They did make a big deal about Pedro being all about work before Fiorella and we know he does/did travel for the job because that's how he met her in the beginning. Tania and Aitana (who I guess they want us to think are very similar with their names, looks and clinging ways) both complained about how much he worked and how the job had his focus most of the time. Meanwhile, people have commented on how his work performance has suffered in recent weeks which we know is because he's been distracted by Fiorella's problems or his problems with her.

UA - that's very true and an excellent point; she would have to work through a lot of stuff if she were with a real psych. Maybe the delivery could've saved the sandbox story so that it didn't seem as silly.

Guau! Excellent discussion in the late night and this morning. Carry on, I love these conversations on our intimate little Patio. I'll be boppin in and out.

Pedro is now in a bad position and he needs to stall for time about the forced wedding to Aitana. He doesn't want to marry her, but with Fiorella running out on him he felt he had no choice other than to keep the peace with Eloisa.

If he hadn't said "I wish you'd disappear from the face of the earth" this wouldn't have happened.

Being blackmailed by Sonia is a serious possibility at this point. He will need to insist on a DNA test as soon as it's possible to do it safely, which should be in a couple of weeks.

Pedro and Fi need to (wo)man-up. Pedro shouldn't stall, he should cut this idea off a the knees. He needs to say "This is ridiculous! I'm not going to date/marry a woman because my (grand)mommy wants it that way! It's insane! And I didnt mean what I said. It was stupid and childish and is the last thing I want. I'm sorry." and Fi needs to say "I'm not going to bounce between three men like a freakin' pinball machine! I refuse to play at all! Vittorio, I'm very grateful and I will pay you back, but I'm not marrying you. Ben - I appreciate you pushing me out of the way, but no. Just no. Pedro - also no. At the very least, until you figure out wth you want. What's more, I need to figure out if I can deal with you possibly being the father of Sonia's baby."

At this point, Aitana has been whiny, clingy, and pathetic, but she'll stick with Pedro through ANYTHING. I bet she'll stick with him through the Sonia situation, especially since I'd put money down on Granny telling them both to keep their mouths shut about it. In fact, Granny might just blackmail/guilt trip the crap out of Pedro with this information.

"She'll stick with Pedro through ANYTHING"...like a piece of gum on the bottom of your shoe that you think you've scraped off completely, but you still hear that little sticking sound every time you take a step....

"It somehow made her seem...simple-minded"

Well Fio is. All day she flits around wondering what guy to marry so she can live happily ever after and no decision she's made lasted over an hour or until there's a loud noise, something shinny or a butterfly floats past.

I want to defend Fi...but it's too much work and I wouldn't be behind my own defense. I"m really in the mood for a TN in which I want to root for the heroes and not just for the downfall of the villains. There needs to be a moniker for this movement like TN Revolution or NovelNovela or something. Tofie: you're a word genius - does anything come to mind?

Thanks, Lila. Loved your list , tofie. I am really not interested in any telenovelas right now. Somehow the romance seems to be gone and has been replaced by frustrating stuff and nonsense. I need a hero not these wimps we have been seeing as galans lately...plus crappy storylines.

Well, I am off to teach gerunds and infinitives in writing class and "Who Lives Longer?" In reading class. I had a new experience last week. A student turned in an essay that was obviously plagiarized, but she swore that she wrote it and then showed it to a tutor. I googled the title and ..bam..there the whole essay was. So..she took the essay from the Internet and then took it to a tutor to be corrected ?????? Then, she lied right to my face..over abd over. QTH Off to deal with liar, liar , pants on fire. I am verra bummed out. Meh ----Susanlynn, losing faith in people and telenovelas.

They could stop billing everything as a romance for starters and if it truly is one then lets see Loves Awakening.

Seems the recipe is boy meets girl, love at first sight and it is the love of their lives then you have 100+ hour long episodes to fill with fluff. If you have 6 months to fill, you can show a slow courtship and loves awakening (oh boy, loves awakening gives me goosebumps), tentative steps of the unlucky or never in love and a wicked family member or romantic nemesis sticking there nose where it doesn't belong. What we're getting is the title, the promo poster with a couple hotties (many of which can't act their way out of a wet paper bag) the scene when they first meet, stupid, stupid, stupid, stupid asshole, forgiveness of the self lobotomized, a wedding (happy/happy) and that's it.

Yup Tofie, that recipe seems accurate. It starts out sweet, but gets more and more bitter as it goes on. Wait; I think I might be the one getting more and more bitter. Sigh. Ah well.

For a long time, I accepted TNs as they were. I told my friends about them with that hint of self-aware embarrassment that often comes with telling someone you watch "soaps." "They're often over-the-top, a little crazy. The villain's almost always insane..."

But then there were some that made me realize that they can be great, ones that I could point to with pride at pretty much every episode (MDET and AB-BIG time- come to mind) and now the ones so far below in terms of plot quality just annoy the crap out of me.

I'm sorry, Susanlynn. That does sound disappointing, for someone to be dishonest enough to plagiarize in the first place and then lie on top of that. I don't know what to wish you--that she cuts it out and admits what she did, I guess. And never does it again!

Now how do we get the writers to stop copying and promise never to do it again. I wonder how disappointed they are. Do they ever pitch a brand new idea only to be told "Oh, no, we're not doing that. Here's the script for a show from five years ago. Rewrite that for us, thanks."

Hellashelle- Which one is MDET?

Susanlynn- Wow! That plagiarism story is crazy, and from what I hear, all too common these days. The internet and young people's complete immersion in it, has made this far too easy. Luckily, it's also made it easy for teachers to search for the original sources too.

Susanlynn - I echo the sentiments above. Just remember she's young. At least you're someone who cares about her growth and potential, so better you catch and confront her than a judge later on.

Diva - If the well-worn traditions are as ingrained as they seem, I bet newbies get shot down a lot. Which is a shame; you'd think the industry would realize it needs a shot in the arm.

Vivi- Mi Destino Eres Tu (SO underrated. I totally wish it was on Caray right now, because it was awesome.)

Ah, that was before my tn obsession began. Why wasn't it covered by Caray Caray back in the day? Seems to have all the star qualities beloved by those on the blog.

I don't think Caray was even around back then; MDET aired back in 2000.

Hellashelle- Oh, right! :) Well, perhaps Uni will re-air during the daytime. Although, since 15 years has passed, seems like it's sure for a remake soon.

That's the kind of TN I could get behind, but I'm not sure how well it did. It certainly doesn't get mentioned very often when people get nostalgic, so I'm not sure if it had a big following. It erred on the side of realism, the protags were smart professionals, so it wasn't a feel-good romantic comedy or even a swept-away type romance. It's feet were firmly on the ground, so I feel like maybe it was too "real" for audiences.

Actually, now that I think about it, maybe it would be the perfect time for a remake. If we're a representative subset of the audiences TNs are looking to attract, then we're ripe for a smart plot with a smart couple.

Until then, I'll just rewatch on youtube.

Susanlynn! Mille grazie! What a dumb bunny that student was! Sheesh!

Love this discussion! Do you guys think the recapper can turn viewers and commenters away with titles like " ¡Qué estupidez!" and what felt like (to me) a scathing, dismissive recap? (Incidentally, that refers to my own recap from last Friday) I'd hate to be contributing to a mass exodus!

I wonder sometimes about when the number of comments drops, but that is a subject for its own thread.

Lila, if that is the case, how would we explain...TSTSNBN!

Yeah. We got a ton of comments on TSTSNBN and on Amores con trampa once.

Someone was kind enough to provide two statistical analyses.

Is that right, Sara! Muy interesante. Ok. Well. Let's see what they serve us tonight. I've had my nap. I'm ready for 'em!

Yay! Whatever they serve up, I know I'm going to enjoy the recap :D

Look they can serve up turd on a stick tonight but will savor every bit of the recap tomorrow.

Thanks, Diva!

:D

Awwww, thanks, Tofie!

I think we just need to adjust our thunking. The show is crap. I'm in it for the recaps.
