Antes Muerta Que Lichita #36 Tuesday 11/10/15: Putting the "lucha" in Lichita

Alicia (she prefers that to Licha, obvs) has secured a famous makeup guy by offering him publicity advice. He's delightfully mean to Luci, who'd been teasing her about being poor.

Also, one of the girls finds out that Xuxette's real name is Jesusa and gives her crap for such a vernacular name.

Alicia has her photo shoot... "Now, with more attitude..."

Meanwhile, her parents are working hard (or at least, Elsa is) to try to be able to pay back Roberto, who's leant them some money. They don't want their daughter to find out about this.

Now that Alicia's getting applauded, Luci is telling people that her main job at the office was to get coffee and make copies. ugh. Alicia turns it around, makes it a story of personal growth and upward mobility, the reporter eats it up, and Luci is in agony. Alicia tells the story of her Dad losing his job to some rich jerk who drove off, and stares daggers at Luci. By the way, it's shocking that Luci gets to sit in on the interview and constantly butt in with obnoxious and mean details. Like when she insinuates that Lichi is only a rising star because she's dating Alex, the jefe's kid.

Xuxette swishes in and demands that the reporter quit and switch to an interview of Luci. Surprisingly, this strategy works and they shoo Lichi out of her seat. Luci then refuses to answer any questions, instead demanding that a photographer take pictures of her "looking like an intellectual." The reporter is disgusted. "So you never studied publicity?" "No, of course not! It's in my veins. Publicity is my middle name! Anyway, in Argentina they have home-schooling..."

She goes on and on about how close she is to her lovely family, but it's Lichi's turn to snipe, pointing out that Luci's family is in ruin. Which she learned from Val, Luci's mom. She also brings up the scandal of the stolen ring! Fury brews behind widened blue eyes.

Beto ostensibly prepares Alex for the API meeting, but is really trying to find out how close he is with Alicia. And tells him that he doesn't love her and it shows. Alex easily realizes that Beto is interested in Alicia. Xuxette bursts in before Beto can respond. There's an emergency, Lichi and Luci are in the office and it looks like they're gonna fight! (she uses a cute expression: "se están agarrando del chongo," or "grabbing the bun..." does that mean they're hair-pulling or is it just an expression for a girlfight).

They're shouting and carrying on and making hilarious faces! It comes to blows and Lichi lands a solid one right in her opponent's nose! Luci crumples and begins wailing. She eventually gets back up, but it's clear our girl has Luci outmatched by a lot. The others arrive and get them to put down their fists. "Oh, we were just having a discussion about aesthetic differences... Whether the dress was blue or gold." Cute reference...
Their faces when they realize the reporter is about to come back...
In the Alicia/Alex interview it becomes clear they're not a super-couple, but come on, they haven't even known each other for a month! The reporter is expecting them to be finishing each other's sentences, that's unrealistic! "Are you guys even a couple? You don't even know each other's favorite color!" Despite all of this, a little hand holding and a nudge from Xuxette get the reporter back on board and she suggests a headline: "The Icónika heir is a sensuality machine with his girlfriend..." whoah. Alex looks like he swallowed a bee. They reject that headline and start spouting romantic nonsense. Everyone swoons, even Xuxette.

The pair are supposed to smooch for one last magazine photo, so of course Nacho and Beto show up to see it! Gulp!

Thank you, Ezra for your very fine recap. I love the title: Lichita does have a lot of "Lucha" (fight) in her.

My faves:

We got a lesson in Mexican literature last night when Alicia and Alex were reciting lines from "Los amorosos" by Jaime Sabines (1926-1999).Personally, I love when works of literature are referenced or in this case recited.

Alicia landed the first punch and it was a punch and not the slap like Luciana was trying to give her. Cheers for Alicia on that one.

Elías insisting he will not be caged in an office.

Alicia putting Alex in his place and reminding that him she asked for nothing in return; it was he who insisted. So, now he cannot complain.

Alicia giving Alex the best advice of his life: dare to come out of the closet.

Ximena is starting to ask who her dad is.

Not a faves:

Magos lying to her mom Elsa about how she got the money to pay the "guy" off. She just saved a little here and there.

Augusto in bed with Sandra telling her to be patient about the expansion to the USA.

Thanks so much Ezra! Love the screen shots you got of Luci and Alicia. :) That fight was fun and funny-- loved the line about difference of opinion about whether the dress was blue or gold. LOL!

It's a good thing Alicia and Alex bonded over Pablo Neruda's poetry early on, because that's the only thing that saved their bacon in that interview.

Not sure if your vcr cut off, but the other major thing that happened this episode was Alicia and Alex finally having it out about why he's had such an attitude with her-- because he thinks she is the one who started the rumor about him being gay. Alicia emphatically denied this (Alex looked like he only half believed her), then she urged him to be brave and come out of the closet already! She also offered to go to the press herself and admit that she made up their relationship. Alex was left silent to think about this.

Alicia then realized, that regardless of what Alex decides, she HAS to find a way to secure her new position by proving herself and that she's worthy of the promotion. She meets with Elias about the Oki Oki account and her slogan about showing the unique and beautiful you. Elias basically tells her that a good creative ad person puts a bit of themselves into each of their campaigns. So Alicia needs to believe SHE has this uniqueness and inner beauty that she is trying to sell with the Oki Oki campaign. This is a bit of a challenge for her.

There was some more of Elias being a free spirit, even working on the floor between Sandra's and Agusto's offices, and annoying them. Agusto being vague about his plans for the US expansion with Sandra post-nookie in bed. Roberto trying to figure out the Agusto-Luci mystery-- the mystery hospital photos, his sudden support of Luci, and his disapproval of her having a relationship with Alex.

Nacho wants to have a man to man talk with Alex, and Alicia stalls him.

Whoopsie! "Not faves"

Jarifa- Glad you paid attention to the actual poem to figure out who the poet was. I thought they were quoting Nerdua since that's who we saw them speaking about early on. Thanks, amiga.

Thanks for the recap!

Loved it when Alicia punched Luci! But also that she gave as good as she got when they were taking turns being interviewed.

Loved that Alicia had it out with Alex! Looks like at the end he was going to a gay club. He may out himself accidentally.

Elias cracks me up with his "free spirit" and working on the floor.

Thanks Jarifa for pointing out where they got their lines, a poem. It was hard for me to understand that bit. I didn't know if they were just speaking from personal experience of love.

Vivi, funny: they used the same poem in MCET. Sabines must be popular.

Thanks Ezra for your wonderful recap. I missed the "Was the dress blue or gold reference" Lol!

. I really dislike that Alex is giving Alicia such a hard time. He really believes the lies of Luciana and Nestor over Alicia. He has not known anyone there that long but he seems perceptive enough (deducing that Beto likes Lichita) to make the conclusion that Alicia is innocent.

. Does Don Augusto know that Alex is gay? He hinted at it with Bea and Alicia mentioned that his dad is on to them.....

. I kept wondering what Luciana was doing at Lichita's interview besides spreading her venom...she should know that Lichita will not be stand aside and take her crap anymore. So I was glad when she did the same when it was her turn to "interview". That punch was awesome but I am surprised that all Luciana did was wail....she is all talk.

. So glad that we are back to single episodes!

Ezra, this was fantastic!!!

I loved your screen shots and the recap was great fun.

"a vernacular name" and "Fury brews behind widened blue eyes: were but several of my favorites.

I so enjoy Elias, his spirit, his independence. He is creative and refuses to conform.

I am so happy Alicia has crossed over from "flight" to "fight" mentality. I cheered her punch to Luciana - has anyone deserved it more? (hmmm, maybe Nestor, but there's still time, right :))

"Xuxette swishes in and demands that the reporter quit and switch to an interview of Luci". I have to smile that Alicia's success is irking both Xux and Luci to the point of bringing these uneasy allies closer together.

Vivi, Alicia did supply Alex with some excellent advice. I hope he follows through so that he and Alicia can stop their charade so they can pursue their professional and personal futures. Hopefully, as real friends.

Jarifa, thank you for the information on Jaime Sabines. You always provide the most interesting details.

Remembering our dear Madelaine and giving thanks to her and to all the men and women who do and have served for their dedication and selflessness.

For anybody interested, here is the poem and a translation.

Los amorosos (First stanza)

Los amorosos callan.
El amor es el silencio más fino,
el más tembloroso, el más insoportable.
Los amorosos buscan,
los amorosos son los que abandonan,
son los que cambian, los que olvidan.

Jaime Sabines

Those in Love

Those in love are quiet.
Love is the most exquisite silence,
the most tremulous, the most unbearable.
Those in love search,
those in love are those who abandon,
those who change, those who forget.

Thank you Ezra---The screen shots were great.

Wow!! What a fight last night. Pow! right in the kisser which left Luciana whimpering---I didn't feel a bit sorry for her. Hit her again I say, she's earned it

From flight to fight. I love it.

Yes and why were those two sitting in on the interview anyway? If anyone was supposed to oversee things, shouldn't Sandra have been there?

I like that Alicia won't be pushed around anymore. She even stood up to Alex and at least got him thinking.

Ximena---Who's my daddy? Magos, you've got some explain' to do.

Maite has such beautiful brown eyes.

must see tv
the gringo

Thanks, Ezra. I missed watching a lot of it last night. Now I feel like I had a front row seat. Great screen shots.

Thank you Ezra, much appreciate your work.

I loved Alicia's challenge to Alex that he could end the relationship farce and shut down the gossip and any future gossip if he would come out. Gave Alex pause

Nice punch

I don't like how Roberto is trying to win Alicia's family behind her back. I know, they weren't supposed to know he is the guarantor of the shop but in classic Roberto style he'll milk this. Roberto also could end all this if he had the guts to be honest with everyone.

Jarifa, thank you for translating the poem.

A nice and welcome treat!

Diana

Thank you, Diana, for mentioning the vets and Madelaine. I still miss her.
