Pasión y Poder Episode #18 Friday, November 27th 2015 Who needs matching bath robes when you can have personalized toilet paper

On this Black Friday, I'm not looking for good deals on Smart TV's, iPad's, or a PS4. No sirree, I'm looking for a great deal on personalized toilet paper. It's on my Christmas wish list. *This recapper runs to Walmart and fights the crowd to get the best deal*

Shall we begin...

Julia and Artie's lips are at close range. They are about to smooch like they haven't smooched in a loooong time, when Gabriela walks into the room (without the knocking on the door!) and interrupts them. At that moment when Gabriela walks into the room Julia jumps back, startled. Gabriela apologizes for her lack of manners and tells her aunt that Franky (Franco) is on his way over there. Gabriela leaves. Julia tells Artie that it would best if he skedaddles out of there, but Artie wants to know what she wanted to ask him, and she tells him that she'll tell him another day. Artie leaves and Julia is left alone to absorb what has just occurred.

Erick, the sleazeball, acts nice with Consuelo. He sniffs Consuelo's perfume, and tells her, that he loves the smell. He makes her believe that he's interested in fixing their relationship and even suggests taking couples therapy. At first, Consuelo doesn't know how she should behave around him or even if she should believe in him, but at the mention of couples therapy, she melts and is touched that he'd be willing to go along with the couples therapy, for her. When she leaves the room, the sleazeball shows his true face, and texts The Ratt, telling her that he's about to go and see something about a business deal that will leave him with enough dough to have her as queen.

Franky walks into his madrina's office and tells her that his padrino sent him over there to see if she needed anything. Julia isn't amused AT ALL that Eladio has already started to spy on her. She dismisses Franky, rather rudely, but rightfully so. Franky leaves. Now alone with Gabriela, Julia thanks her niece for alerting her of Franky's visit. Gabriela asks her aunt if Artie will have the DNA test done. Julia explains that she didn't even get a chance to ask him to get it done, because the two started talking, and he admitted that he still felt something for her. And by having Artie so close, she realized that she has never stopped loving him. She admits that she should have never seen Artie, because now that love, has been reborn with a much stronger force.

Oh, lookie there, the wedding gifts have started to arrive. And Regina, isn't happy AT ALL. In fact, she's angry, so angry that she even kicks one of the gifts so hard that it goes sliding across the floor. Regina calls Josh Man and summons him to the Montenegro residence ASAP. Nina appears, wondering what has Regina's panties in a bunch. Regina asks her mother if she cancelled the wedding. Nina admits that she didn't cancel anything, because she thought it would be best for Regina to think things through. Unbeknownst to Nina, Artie has arrived in time to overhear that she hasn't cancelled the wedding like he had asked her to, and he lets her have it- accusing her of not taking care of anyone, but herself.  Then we enter the "oh no he didn't!" moment of the night, when Artie tells Nina to her, that he doesn't understand how he could have married HER.

Gabriela finds it incredible that Julia hasn't been able to forget Artie, despite the pass of time. In the "duh!" moment of the night, Julia believes that Artie is the reason, why she never loved Eladio. (Well, the fact that he treats her so badly, probably had something to do with it also, just saying.) Julia confides in Gabriela the mistake she made when she married Eladio- she tells Gabriela that she married Eladio to get back at Artie (for cheating on her) and out of spite and she did it knowing very well that he was Artie's worst enemy. Julia knows that a relationship with Artie is out of the question, since they both happen to be married. Gabriela wonders what Eladio would do if he found out (that Artie and Julia saw each other- I guess). Julia thinks that Eladio would be capable of killing her, but Gabriela doesn't really think Eladio would go there. Still, she thinks Julia should be careful and try and erase Artie from her mind. Oh, but Julia can't do that, because for a moment there, Artie made her feel as if she were a teen on her very first date. Why she even forgot all that she had suffered with Eladio. Julia tells Gabriela not to worry- she knows very well that knowing will happen between her and Artie and she knows that she can't leave Eladio. She knows that she has to think about the consequences and that she has to think about her son. Gabriela asks her if she'll see Artie so she can ask him to get the DNA test. Well, after what he made her feel, Julia doesn't know if she would dare to be close to him yet again.

Artie now has his undies in a bunch and he really lets Nina have it. Oh, he's angry that she doesn't pay any attention to her children. Well, she reminds him, (and she makes a good point here) that they are HIS kids as well. He says that he promises that things would change, and he's been keeping his word, but he can't split himself in four, he's not Spongebob Squarepants. He tells her that it's assumed that she'd be in charge of the what happens in the family. Nina can't believe that after so many years of marriage, here he comes accusing her of doing everything wrong. He tells her that the problem is that she does NOTHING. Now Daniela shows up, and in the "stupid question" moment of the night, she asks her parents if they are arguing (Ummm.. they are yelling .. so yeah they are arguing!). Nina whines that Artie is all of a sudden upset with everything that she does. Artie shows his discontent for Nina failing to cancel the wedding knowing what Joshua did with Regina and Daniela. Daniela acts surprised that her mother didn't cancel the wedding, but Regina knows that Daniela is somehow involved. At that moment, Petra shows up, with the newest addition to the wedding gifts. Petra is all excited with the gift but gets dismissed by Nina. Now Nina wants know why all of a sudden everything she does bothers Artie. He tells her that up until now he didn't see his reality- he got married wanting to have a family, but he can see that his wife still acts as if she's living the single life. His kids have no rules. Again, Nina makes a point by telling him that he also had the responsibility to educate his kids. Artie, at least, accepts that he's part to blame and says that he's trying to make amends despite it being a wee bit too late. He tells her that the problem is that she doesn't help him and he's tired and overwhelmed of everything going on- they are family out of control without any responsibility and obligations. He leaves the room in a huff. Nina lays the blame of the argument on Regina. Regina tells her mother that she's to blame- and says that for sure Daniela had something to do with the wedding invitations. Daniela denies and leaves. Nina makes it clear to Regina that she'd either stop the nonsense and putting her dad against her or else. Nina leaves. Regina is left alone and she decides to take out her anger on the gits. She tosses them around the room and one lands right in front of the Josh Man who arrives at that moment. Regina lets him have it for sending out the wedding invitations when he knew very well that they weren't getting married.

David and Francisco meet for coffee. David tells Francisco that he wants to get to Queretaro already so he can work and keep his mind occupied. Francisco wonders if David will be able to work alongside Regina. David claims that he won't mix the personal with business. Francisco isn't so sure about that. David gets a call and is told that he has to work on some modifications pronto- and guess what? He has to work on those modifications with none other than Regina.

Artie and Agustin talk about girls. Artie tells Agustin that Julia hasn't been happy in her marriage with Eladio. Oh, and she married Eladio, loving him- Artie. Artie admits that despite it hurting him, he was at least satisfied thinking that Julia was happy with Eladio. Agustin spells it out for Artie- it's one thing that Julia isn't happy in her marriage and another that she's going to do something about it, and another thing that Artie can do something for Julia. Artie believes that he can do something for Julia- he can make Eladio pay for Julia's suffering by destroying him.

Regina really lets the Josh Man have it. And you almost feel some sympathy for him, but then you remember that he's an idiot, so it passes. He lies and tells her that he sent out the wedding invitations before she left for Queretaro. He thought that her anger would pass and that she'd change her mind. He admits that it was Daniela would put the idea in his head, that all she (Regina) needed was a little push. Regina knew that Daniela was somehow involved in this whole fiasco, and and calls out Joshua out on being such an imbecile and only screwing one thing after another up ever since they broke up. She tells him that he'll have to let everyone know that the wedding off. He tries to use the "but what will everyone say" card, but she doesn't care what others think. She kicks him out and then calls up the wedding planner and informs him that the wedding is off.

Agustin thinks that Artie is nuts- it's one thing to want to beat Eladio in business and another to want to beat him for Julia. Artie asks him if he wouldn't do the same for the woman he loves. Agustin doesn't answer this question. Instead, he tells Artie that the only woman he should think of is his wife. Well, Artie has realized that Nina... Agustin interrupts and says- oh, so now Artie sees Nina flaws. He reminds Artie that Nina is the same woman she was back when he married her. Artie denies it and also denies that he now is seeing Nina with different eyes- when Agustin suggests that, that is the case. Artie doesn't think that Agustin understands him- he admits that all this time he has felt that something was missing and that it was like being in a abyss and that the only thing that got him out of that abyss was Julia's memory. Her kisses, her looks, the way of reflecting himself in her eyes, was like a rainbow of tranquility. Agustin asks- what about Nina. Artie says that Nina is a good woman, and in the "TMI moment" of the night, he lets his best pal know that he and Nina make a good couple under the sheets, but outside the sheets, they really have nothing in common. Agustin reminds him that he has a family with Nina. Agustin tells Artie that Julia won't get divorced for him. Changing the subject a little, Agustin asks Artie what Julia wanted. Artie replies that Julia didn't tell him because they were interrupted. Artie wants to see Julia again and he needs Agustin to help him. Agustin doesn't want to get involved. Artie starts to talk about what he felt when he was with Julia- he felt like he was a teen again. (Oy vey, stop it Artie. Stop it.)

Petra shows Regina the newest wedding gifts additions. Regina asks Petra not to receive any new wedding gifts and to inform everyone that the wedding is off. Regina wants the chauffeur to return all the gifts. Petra asks- even the toilet paper with your names. Regina says- toilet paper?! Daniela then shows up smiling. Regina calls her out on being involved with the wedding invitations being sent out. Daniela says that she just made a remark to Josh Man and that it's not her fault that he took it so seriously. Regina blames her for causing all of this and she's about to tell her that David thinks that they were in cahoots for... but she gets a phone call and leaves without telling Daniela more.

Erick's business meeting. Erick meets up with two corrupt businessmen that want Erick to help them make Artie lose the construction bidding for a highway and thus help their own construction company get the bidding. If Erick does that, then he'll receive some good money in exchange. Erick isn't so sure, he thought the whole business would be easier. It doesn't seem like he's worried about betraying his father, he just doesn't want his father to know that he was involved. One of the corrupt businessmen assures him that it won't happen- it'll all stay between the three of them, which in is telenovela code for "someone will find it". Erick says that he has to think about it. The other businessmen tells Erick not to take too long thinking about it, because they need a response tomorrow. Erick agrees to giving them a response tomorrow. The corrupt businessmen leave. He gets a phone call from The Ratt. The Ratt wants to know if he made the business deal, and Erick tells her that he had his first meeting with the businessmen. The Ratt doesn't want Erick to let too much time pass or else he could lose the business. Erick says that they have to do things right. The Ratt reminds him that the business deal has to do with him making a lot of money. Erick knows, but says that he has to be discreet, so that he doesn't have problems with his dad. The Ratt says- that once he becomes auto sufficient, then Artie's opinion shouldn't matter to him. Erick says that he can break ties with his dad all of a sudden. The Ratt tells him that she doesn't want to be at Eladio's expense. Erick tells her that he got an advance. The Ratt likes what she hears and tells him to come on over to see if she will give him the "reward" that he deserves, which is telenovela code for "nookie".

Petra tells Nina that Artie has arrived. Petra leaves. Artie comes into the room. Nina asks- if he has something else to tell her off her about. Artie apologizes and says that he was stressed. She tells him that she was hurt by his words about him regretting marrying her because she loves him. But not even because of that will she pressure him to be by her side. He asks- what does she mean. She tells him- that it's easy, if he doesn't love her then he should tell her. If all these years together and the family that we have formed isn't enough and you don't realize that we have a lot to be grateful for. She says that she understands that she's not fifteen anymore and that maybe there is someone else with less years, (and with less lipstick), that he's interested in. Artie tells her not to say that- the Daniela thing upset him. Nina says- do you think that I'm not worried. Artie asks Nina to take care of Daniela. He doesn't want Daniela to get into any more problems and doesn't want her to argue with Regina anymore because they are sisters. Nina wants him to help her then. Artie wants her do something because he's always working and she's in charge of the family. She once again makes a valid point, when she tells him that when someone is a father, working is not everything, and that he has to be present. She tells him that he has to be there.

In the "childish couple" moment of the night, Regina and David meet to talk about work. But before they get down to work, Regina let's him know that the whole wedding invitation fiasco was Joshua's doing because Daniela asked him to do it. She makes it clear to him SHE'S NOT GETTING MARRIED and that his behavior in the morning only confirmed that they can't be together ever because there will always be something separting them. (Yeah, like their own foolishness, stubbornness, and childlike behavior) Well, David isn't so sure if he can believe her and she basically tells him to go ahead and believe what he wants. They decide to get to work.

Daniela is all set to go out, but wait a minute, Artie reminds her that she's grounded. Daniel stomps her foot and thinks it's unfair, but Artie tells her it's for her own good. He leaves because he has to work and Daniela thinks her dad's nuts. Nina gives her the "I'll take care of it" signal.

More Regina and David acting like children- this time in front of the waiter. Regina lets the waiter know that she and David are not a couple and will never be one. David adds- becasue I'm honest, unlike some people. Waiter leaves. Regina tells David to get work. He tells her that he's working. Regina doesn't think it's necessary for them to get together- they could work in their own space and keep in contact via the internet. David likes the idea- that way he won't have to see her face.

Nina tells Daniela that she'll see what she can do about her grounding. Oh well- Daniela prefers being grounded than having to go to rehab. She's about to go up to her prison- her room. But Nina wants to speak to her about why she told the Josh Man to send out the invitations. Nina thinks Daniela should have told her what she was about to do so they could have planned it better. She tells her daughter- that if she's going to do something bad then at least do it right. Nina says that it affected her and that it is keeping her further apart from her dad. She whines that Artie is still treating her with indifference and she knows something is up.

Erick visits The Ratt. He tells her that the business will bring him a lot of money, but he has to go slow. For now he will he leave her a check so she can go get something pretty. The Ratt takes one look of the check- but it's not enough for her to shop till she drops at Victoria's Secret. He tells her that he can't get rich so fast. The Ratt uses her charms on him- and ask how long she'll have to wait to be with him like she has always wanted. He tells her to give him a few months. She hopes the client will give him what he deserves. He assures her that will be the case- and to trust him. He doesn't want to talk about business anymore, unless it has to do with them getting down to business, with smooches, and more, but thankfully we are spared having to witness the "more" part.

Oh snap. Consuelo still wants Miguel to get the dirt on Erick. And she'll help him get into Erick's computer by obtaining his password. (Who else thinks the password is - The Ratt?) Miguel asks her if she is sure about getting the dirt. Oh, she's sure alright, and more than ever. She can't continue on being with those doubts. Miguel leaves for work and tells her to let him know when she gets her hands on the password. He leaves. Consuelo checks the calendar on her phone.

Artie talks with Daniela. He doesn't want her and Regina to fight anymore. Daniela lays the blame on Regina, but Artie knows Daniela provokes Regina. Daniela thinks that Regina is Artie's favorite, but he tells her that he loves all four of his kids the same, and he'd give his life for them. That's why it hurts him that they don't get along because they are a family, and a team. He doesn't want Daniela to forget that Regina is her sister and that she'll always be a part of her life. Instead of hating her she should be close to her and love and respect her. He asks her if she'll able to do that. She says- yes. Artie leaves.

Franky and Gabriela arrive at the same restaurant where David and Regina are. David spots them and he immediately dives under the table. We hear Franky and Gabriela talk. Franky doesn't like how his madrina treated him. Franky wants to find out how David knew about Eladio and Artie's fight. They walk further into the restaurant and Regina notices that David is hiding from Gabriela and Franky.

Julia arrives home. Eladio asks her if she went out. She tells him that she's coming from the foundation and that if he doesn't believe her- well he could go and ask his spies, starting with Franky. Eladio tells her that she's the only one to blame for things going back to how they were before. Julia calls him out on getting her dad involved- the old goat already called her and asked her to be more understanding of her husband. She calls Eladio out of going to her dad to let him know that she doesn't want him (Eladio) in her bed. He tells her that if he loses his patience- then he'll order it. She tells him that it's over- she's not going to put up with him anymore. He grabs her by the arm and wants to know what's wrong with her- has she lost it. She then says the "D" word, yes that's right, she tells him that she wants a DIVORCE.

Daniela heads outside and Petra reminds her that she can't leave becasue she's grounded. Fine, Daniela won't leave, but she'll stick around outside to get fresh air. Daniela starts looking up her photos with David and admits that she has the hots for him. She kisses one of the photos. And at the end of the scene she gets a smirk on her face as if she's planning something that can't be good.

Eladio laughs- hahahaha. He can't believe that she's asking him that. Julia tells him that she wants her freedom. He thinks she's crazy, it'll never happen. He tells her that she's nothing without him and that she wouldn't be able to survive. Especially her dad, he wouldn't survive either, and I'm not seeing the dad not surviving as a bad thing (Does that make me a bad person?). He tells her that if she has someone else then despite loving her so much then he'd have to kill her if he can't have her.

Gabriela notices Regina at the restaurant. She tells Franky about the scene Regina made at the hospital. Franky says all Montenegro's are the same.

Regina calls David out on his hiding under the table. David claims he was looking for a screw coming loose from his watch. Regina smells the BS and knows that the gal over- Gabriela- was at the hospital with him. Regina says- you see how it would be impossible to be together. David says- it's not that. She decides to leave telling him that they'll keep in contact via the internet.

Eladio asks Julia if there's someone else. She tells him no. But he doesn't know how much she wishes that she could give him a taste of his own medicine but she's not a cheater like him. He calls her out on going on about the same thing and not wanting to resolve things between them. She tells him that if only he would have understood her a little and especially if he wouldn't have doubted that David was his son then none of this would be happening. He asks her not to play victim and says that it also hasn't be easy for him to be married to someone who doesn't love him back. He tells her that he can't stand that he loves her and that she doesn't correspond. She tells him that she tried- but he always hurts her where it hurts her the most- her son. She wants a divorce but he tells her that it won't ever happen. He can't divorce her because he loves her. He tells her that they'll be together until death do them part and thinks that she loves him in her own way. He says that, he realized that, the day they made love. He asks her if it's true and invades her space. She rejects him. He leaves to go upstairs.

Regina runs into Josh Man after leaving the restaurant. Josh Man whines that his folks are shipping him off to Saskatchewan, someplace out of Mexico, where he'll have no fun, and it's all Regina's fault. She ruined his life! Regina tells him to grow up. He puts his grubby hands on her arms and David sees this. He leaves on his motorcyle. Regina notices David. She leaves.

A shirtless Erick talks to someone on the phone and wants more info about a construction company- I guess it's the one belonging to the corrupt businessmen he met with earlier. The Ratt, wearing Erick's shirt, asks Erick if he's working. Erick says that he is- and that he has to leave. The Ratt wants Erick to ask for more millions than what they offer him- because he's worth that. (The Patio begs to differ) She gets all kissy with him and he tells her to stop or else he won't make it to his meeting. He asks for his shirt back, puts it on, and leaves. The Ratt gets dressed. Aldo arrives and wants the scoop. The Ratt hopes that it's true that Erick will make a ton of money. She tells Aldo about Erick bringing home a check for tres pesos- can Aldo believe that. No, Aldo, can't believe it. Aldo is someone else, beside The Ratt herself, that thinks The Ratt deserves to be treated like The Ratt Queen. The Ratt agrees that she deserves to be treated like a queen and says that she won't stay with Erick, despite loving him, if he can't financially support her, like she wants him to.

Eladio sprays whatever that thing is he sprays in his mouth. Julia comes into the room and she tells him that she doesn't understand why he wants to be together if their marriage doesn't work. He tells her that he does it because he doesn't want to lose the opportunity to keep things well with her and David. He promised her and he owes it to David. He hopes that her anger passes and he tells her that he'll keep on doing what he promised. He says that this time there won't be doubts and that he'll talk to their son and get closer to him. Julia hopes so- but makes it clear to him that he won't touch her even again- and if he wants to get back together with his Ratt, then she has no problem with it.

Thank you Mauricio much appreciated.

"Julia tells Artie that it would best if he skedaddles out of there"

So let me get this straight, an absent father and husband, who cheated on his fiancee and snap married to cover a pregnancy and snap marries again when he is a recent widower tells the mother of three of his 4 children he shouldn't have married her and her crime is still being able to slip into a skin tight dress, wear dark opaque lipstick and doesn't have eyes in the back of her head.

And this same failure of a father works everyday with a son that drinks and whores under his nose, deems invisible the son of an affair until he needs him to perform illegal hacking, was prepared to marry his favorite child off to a spoiled punk and offers 30 seconds of quality time to his youngest that is clearly in crisis.

Ok, Regina finally called the wedding planner herself to cancel, why didn't she do it herself before? She's spoiled rotten too.

I like SG but this Julia chick I don't and not buying what SG is selling.

Gracias, Mauricio.

I had to laugh at the idea of MonserratT thinking herself a queen. Even a queen of whores is smarter than she is. She certainly doesn't realize that Rome wasn't built in a day and even if Erick manages to get $5 million US out of this crooked deal she's likely to run through that money faster than even Nina does. We can only be grateful that she isn't interested in getting pregnant.

When we criticize Arturo's lack of involvement in the day to day of his household we may be holding him to a standard his culture doesn't expect of him. There is also that this is a remake from a series in 1988. Fernando Colunga is following in the footsteps of Enrique Rocha in his character. I consider ER to be the king of novela villains.

Probably most novelas have a premise that we have to accept in order for the story to work. In this case an outdated parenting model which allows two of the leading man's four children to be spoiled, selfish, and nasty is combined with a narcissistic mother who favors the two less brainy of the four (the male because he's her DNA). I will have more to say about that as my alter-ego.

More later.

Thank you, tofie.

I agree with you about Artie. He should have been there with his kids all along, and having to work is no excuse, since he is his own boss and he could come and go in and out of the office when he pleases. Nina made some good points when she called him out on being an absent father to his children.

It didn't occur to me, until then, that Regina could have called up the wedding planner and cancelled the wedding herself. She didn't need mommy to go and do it for her.

Thank you, Urban

"I had to laugh at the idea of MonserratT thinking herself a queen."

Me too. She's no queen AT ALL. It sure says a lot about her- that she sees herself as someone who deserves to live in luxury.

Now Erick is even wiling to betray to his own father, to give her that life that she wants. I hope Artie finds out and disowns him.

Great job, Mauricio.

Josh looks more like an idiot each episode, and this time even had Regina calling him one to his face. Ha!

Since Nina was the one planning this wedding from top to bottom, even trying to decide Gina's dress, that's why it was her job to tell all the vendors and planners SHE had been working with that it was off. It also allowed her to save face by making up whatever excuse she felt comfortable with. I'm sure if she had refused to do it, Gina would have done it herself, but she said she would.

Even if Erick manages to make big bucks from some shady deals, he isn't smart enough to actually build a business that will keep making money. He and Montse would burn through their fast cash quickly. Erick is not a good long term bet as a sugar daddy, unless his father dies and he gets a large inheritance and part of the business (which someone else would need to run for him).

Nina- Made very good points about Art also having responsibility for how his kids have turned out and behave. But obviously, these two entered into a marriage contract with very traditional and district roles. He worked himself half to death to bring in the money and keep her and the kids living in high fashion- check. Nina's job was to love and nurture ALL the kids, and provide them with structure, guidance, and discipline at home. She fell down on her end of the deal. Should they have divided things this way? Well, much of the world still divides the duties between husbanbs and wives this way. Not my ideal set up, but a set up Nina agreed to when she married Art.

Typos: Distinct roles.

Nina is the pot calling the kettle black in this example. She was too busy flitting off to the beauty parlor, nail salon, expensive lunches with "friends", and acting like a spoiled rich girl rather than a proper mother. The irony of this is that had Arturo been at home more he would have seen through her a long time before this and she would have ended up divorced and without custody of her children.

Which would have been a lot better for all of them.

Regina should send that monogrammed toilet paper to David. Since he still thinks she's with/marrying Josh, I bet he'd love to wipe his butt on paper with their initials on it. :)

Great job Mauricio!!

I put the whole bad parenting on Artie's part again to the story that needs to be told. If we get the gist that all these "grown-ups" were quite young when all the mistakes were made, then there marriages and reactions were from lack of maturity and probably their own lack of parental guidance. To make Artie our galan, we need him to recognize his screw-ups and proceed accordingly. But I have to say, his going on and on to poor Augustin was a bit much last night.

Unfortunately, he marries someone self-centered and hardly of the mothering kind and thus the screwed up kids. Good lord Erick is just plain dumb. And Daniela has nothing better to do than look at herself and cause trouble. Artie should cut her cards and make her go get a job. Same with Erick...seriously. Living in the house is one thing, paying for everything is another. Big boy wear big pants.

Does this mean we're actually going to lose that dweeb Joshua from our screen with the forced trip? Please. Oh please.

Daisynjay

Monogrammed bathroom tissue? Is that really a thing? I shouldn't have googled.

Brief OT: What episode of YNCELH aired last night? I don't want to recap the wrong one.

I agree with the earlier comment that Joshua looks dumber and dumber every time we see him. I hope Regina never boinked him.

With all his spies I'm shocked that Eladio doesn't have cameras all over the house like Helloisa in MIVAC.

Urban- #97 aired, although it seems that at least one of our commenters got no episode at all. See the Yo No comments post from yesterday.

Thanks; just checked it. So I will have #98 for Monday.

Back to our regular discussion.

We haven't said much about Aldo yet so I will offer a theory. He's a trust fund brat because he's on the Penthouse level of the building (which to judge by the exterior isn't tall enough to have one) and he lives vicariously through what he sees going on.

Oh, and although she's too dumb to use it, I congratulate the set designers for finally putting peepholes in doors!

Thanks, Mauricio. Terrific recap. Enjoyed your "signposts," like Then we enter the "oh no he didn't!" moment of the night

How long before Daniela figures out the woman her dad was in love with is David's mother? I actually felt sorry for Nina when Arturo told her, with Daniela standing right there, that he doesn't understand how he could've married her. Arturo, not in front of the kids.

Looks like Consuelo missed a period. Bad timing if she catches Erick cheating soon.

Julia is wrong to involve someone else's husband in her DNA quest. I wouldn't blame Nina for going ballistic if Arturo does a test. It's dumb because either way (and we know David is Eladio's) involving Art will make it look like David could've been his and that Julia cheated during her engagement to Eladio.

Funny moment: David diving and staying under the restaurant table. Daniela was a good sport to keep silent as long as she did.

Julia should see a lawyer who would probably advise her how to do a DNA test involving Eladio and how to protect her father's current living situation.

Another irony in this episode: Eladio's "gifts" of booze and cigars could accelerate Humberto's death, which could free Julia since David is now grown and can be earning decent dinero soon. If she has run a foundation for a number of years there is no good reason for her not to be able to find work, either.

Niecie- Yeah, Miguel, Regina, and David now suspect there is something personal behind this feud. Now that Regina knows there is some other woman Art once loved, she might be the first to figure out Julia was that woman. Yeah, she was a good sport about David's under the table dive and fishing expedition. She could have blown his cover to Gabi and Franco, since she knew that's who he was hiding from, and that he clearly didn't want to be spotted with her.

My larger point about our lame daddy Art, had he & Nina agreed to traditional parenting roles, is he doesn't appear to have had any substantive interactions with his children much less a discussion with his wife on their well being. He's blasting Nina now spoiling to find fault because he's obsessed with another woman. He attacks her capability as a parent and says he's jumping in to fix everything and promptly doesn't, spending his time planning to take down the husband of the woman he wants now. Yep, Daniela is a spoiled brat but when he wanted to convince her to go easy on Regina he started out ok but devolved into patting her head, telling he not to pee on the rug and he was gone in less than a minute. Daniela knows Art doesn't give a crap about her.

As for Nina, I believe Art got what he paid for but she likely kept everything between the lines as the children grew up without their father but they are adults now and get out of the fence from time to time.

I think Nina did a good job cleaning up Erick and Daniela's messes and hiding them when they were young (note how she told Dani that if she's going to do something bad, tell her so she can help her do it effectively). She also seems to have done a better job hiding her contempt and hatred for Regina and Miguel, and/or blind Art is only now seeing it. In either case, none of this is new. She's a rotten mother and stepmother. It doesn't mean Art is a good father either. Neither one of them gave the four people they were tasked with raising what they needed. Art brought in money. Nina's contribution was keeping him happy in bed, and making sure they looked good on the covers and social pages of magazines.

And that probably is a truer reflection of reality than we want to admit to ourselves.

I don't have children because I know I would have made a rotten mother. It is almost impossible to have a couple where you have one rotten parent and one good because that isn't sustainable if they both spend what most of us think is adequate time with the children. Daniela has mastered the art of playing the parents off and against each other, which proves she has more brains than Erick. That he doesn't do this is probably because being male meant he never needed to: he curries favor by (appearing to) work at Dad's company as Arturo did at the same age.

Wonderful recap, as always, Mauricio! Thank you! I especially loved your explications of The Code. I look forward to more entries. :)

Urban, Eladio's gift cigars were a hoot. The old guy is on oxygen, for Pete's sake. I was waiting for the room to explode and take the two misogynists with it.

Mauricio,
Erick is starting his career as industrial saboteur just as Miguel is getting ready to hack into his computer and phone so ALL of Erick's dirty tricks should come to light pretty quickly.

thanks, Mauricio, for your clever, detailed retelling. I love to read your take on the craziness.

I enjoyed reading all the comments about the poor parenting that has gone on here. The moral of the story is that when the three-year-old says to you " Clean up my mess (tiny beads that she was playing with), the correct answer is " Clean up your own messy, sweetheart." It is a good idea to teach kids that lesson at a verra early age.

I think I need to see more salt and peppa Augie. Whataman. What's his back story ? Is he meant to vie for Gabby's hand and take on the pipsqueak Frankie? I see no true galan in this story so far.

I don't like Art, but somebody has to work. I was a military spouse and I couldn't expect him to be in charge of the kids. It's impossible! These "kids" are grown now. Nina I'd responsible for those monsters because she knows what she raised and she still not holding them responsible. Nina was a hands-on parent as far as I can tell. No evidence of a nanny. I would also defend a poor man with 4 mouths and a stay at home wife to feed. I would expect him to work hard to support his family and not know everything that's going on with his kids.

Miguel could go low tech and just follow Ewreck one day and he'd have the goods, forget the iphone hack.

When David and Regina were in the restaurant and Gabi and Franco came in and David hid, Regina questioned him if Gabi was the girl at the hospital and he didn't answer. I thought she wondered Gabi was just another of David's women. Doesn't she know Gabi is his cousin?

Thanks so much for your recap Mauricio. I loved when you admonished Art to stop; he needs to stop. And you are not bad for suggesting Humberto's demise would be a good thing.

Yes Vivi Regina calling Josh an idiot to his face was great! He's so ridiculous trying to blame her for his parents actions. And I hope Daisynjay is right and he won't see Josh again hopefully for the rest of the tn.

UA's observation about this tn being a remake may explain the parent role expectations, though I also think that traditional set up is more common than we think.

NM great idea of the room blowing up on Humberto and Eladio. Too bad it can't happen yet, at least Eladio can't die this early.

tofie, I don't think Regina knows Gaby is David's cousin.

That traditional method of family responsibility has changed, but that is how hub and I did it. I quit my teaching job to stay home with the kids, and hub worked a full-time job and also was an umpire and basketball referee to bring home the bacon for the family. I did all the cooking, cleaning, grocery shopping, and child care plus taught part-time. My daughters, on the other hand, will probably work full-time their whole lives.

The female CEO of a company where I worked a long time ago was the daughter of a man who had emphysema and was on oxygen. He would not stop smoking and no nursing home would take him because of this. One night she got the phone call she had been dreading for years: The oxygen tank blew up and the resulting fire burned the entire building down. He father died of smoke inhalation. Nobody else died, but 16 families were left homeless and without their possessions and pets.

This could ultimately happen to Humberto.

A disturbing, though not altogether surprising, story, Urban. The more I think about, the more convinced I am – that is exactly the end the writers have in store for Humberto!

The weekend is half over and I am just getting to the recap but that doesn't mean that I enjoyed any less---great job Mauricio.

Your maybe there is someone else(and with less lipstick) had me laughing.

Who else thinks the password is the Ratt? LOL--You're probably right on that one.

NovelaMaven---Using an oxygen tank and lighting a cigar. Thanks, I didn't think of that. I guess that the writers didn't either.

A truly sad story Urban---the whole apt. building!

I'm glad that at least Julia now suspects that Franco is spying for Eladio.1

Urban---I agree that no matter how much money Erik makes for selling his dad down the river, both he and Montse will blow it all in no time.

Can't wait to see what Miguel finds on Erik's computer.

must see tv
the gringo

Mauricio! A late, but no less heartfelt Thank You for this wonderful recap. Great discussion, too!

Mauricio--You never fail to delight us with your recaps. This one was special. As Niece said, the "signposts" were great.

I think Julia is going to get into a whole mess of problems asking Arturo to cooperate with the DNA test. Eladio is bound to find out. Is she just too dumb, or not up on the basics of DNA testing, that you need hair (with or without roots, as per tn law), a cheek swab (or maybe lips on a glass) to get Eladio's DNA? She really needs a witness to back up the provenance and then go to a certified lab. Of course, the witness can't be Gaby anymore. She will tell Franco, Franco will tell Eladio and is shut-in time again for Julia.

That oxygen tank explosion needs to happen ASAP. Or, did I see Julia's face show a little bit of disdain for daddy dear when Eladio was holding it over her head?

Does anyone recall any mention of what happened to Amanda? Is she dead or alive?

Erik is worthless for betraying the man who took care of him all his life (I still don't think Arturo is Erik's bio dad).

Nina is not 100% to blame for how the kids have turned out; Arturo is 50% responsible as well.

Arturo wanted a sex buddy & nanny for Miguel and that's what he got. That's all he required of her. Twerk it good in bed & keep the kids out of my face. Don't be mad 25 years later because Nina is a silly, vapid socialite and you want to relive your teen years with Julia.

And silly Julia gets little sympathy from me because she married Eladio out of spite & was willing to give him a chance until she decided she wanted to fantasize about Arturo instead. David's grown & her dad will croak soon. No need for her to stay with Eladio.

We all ask why Eladio just didn't get a DNA test done on David but we could also ask the same of Julia ...I'm sorry but if my husband is claiming I stepped out on him and cuckolded him with another man's baby and I know I haven't been stepping out on him, I'd have a DNA test done to shut my husband up. Things could've been so much different for Julia, Eladio & David had Julia gotten a DNA test done on David when he was a child.

Urban, are you talking about Julia's mother? Humberto referred to her as "Almita" in Thursday's episode when he told Eladio that Julia wasn't as submissive "como mi difunta Almita." So she, alas, is dead.

There was another Amanda mentioned, Gaby's mother (and therefore Julia's sister). That was when Agustín asked Gaby if she was the daughter of Amanda Vallado.

I meant Amanda. I am assuming that Julia's mother is dead. In fact, I think her father is the last of the parents of her generation in this story.

Anon207, the only way Julia could have the DNA test done is under police conditions, as I've said in previous discussions. Eladio is completely unwilling and no matter how she would collect the DNA specimen, he would never accept the results. He wants something to hold over her head and control her with. With a result that would pass inspection by Law & Order SVU he would be left without a leg to stand on. That's what he's really afraid of.

Lila,

I watch the forensic shows. I'm obsessed with them. I would love to be on a jury that has to consider DNA evidence. You don't need the root to do a DNA test. You can do a mitochondrial DNA test without the root. This would prove that both males are somehow related to the same woman (Eladio's mother).

Sorry, Lila, I meant the DNA comment for Anita

OK, I'm wrong. The father can't his pass mtdna to his son. You can only identify two brothers by mtdna.

Back to work.

Hi all. Thank you so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. I'm glad that you all enjoyed the recap and I loved reading the great discussion. I got busy and wasn't able to participate that much but I loved reading what you all had to say.

Well, we are about to enter a brand new week of PyP, and I'm excited to see what will happen this week.

- Will Erick be busted? (both by Consuelo and Artie)

- Will David and Regina stop acting like children and fix their problems?

- Will Nina get rid of that awful lipstick?

- Will Agustin quit his job? (because he's sick and tired of having to listen to Artie going on and on about Julia when he's a married man)

- What will Daniela do with the photos she has of herself and David?

- Will Consuelo find out she's pregnant?

Can't wait to find out.

Thank you Vivi.

That makes sense that Regina didn't cancel the wedding herself because Nina said she'd do it. I'm glad that she called the wedding planner and cancelled it herself once she realized that her mom didn't do it and wasn't going to do it anytime soon.

Yes, The Ratt especially would spend it all pretty fast. And yes, Erick would not be able to handle a business all by himself.

Thank you Daisynjay.

"But I have to say, his going on and on to poor Augustin was a bit much last night."

Yes, it was too much. I can only imagine how annoyed Agustin must have been.

"Does this mean we're actually going to lose that dweeb Joshua from our screen with the forced trip? Please. Oh please."

I hope we do- anything to get him off our screens.

Mauricio--
Here are my answers to your "quiz"==
1. No, not yet
2. No, not yet
3. No, not ever
4. No, unless you know something we don't know
5. The only people she can hurt with those pictures are Regina, Arturo, and Eladio, so my bet is on the Gossip Weeklies first, then Regina.
6. If Consuelo is pregnant (please say it ain't so), then our resident idiot is not shooting blanks. MontserRAT had better be careful or there will be more ratitas running around for Erik to support.

Cynderella--thanks for the correction on DNA--I was being semi-facetious calling it a tn law. So, then, how is it you can detetmine who the father is? I thought that was one of the easier tests, as opposed to who is a father where two brothers are suspected (Reina de Corazones, for instance). They gave of some explanation in the tn that it couldn't be determined precisely when two brothers were involved.

Thank you Urban, for the link to the monogrammed toilet paper. I had no idea there was such a thing and still can't believe that it exits. Who would spend money on that?

Thank you Niece.

"Arturo, not in front of the kids."

I agree. You should never have an argument like that in front of yours. It's one of those arguments that should take place behind closed doors.

Thank you NovelaMaven.

"I was waiting for the room to explode and take the two misogynists with it."

Hahaha, now that would have been good, wouldn't it?

"Erick is starting his career as industrial saboteur just as Miguel is getting ready to hack into his computer and phone so ALL of Erick's dirty tricks should come to light pretty quickly."

I hope that is what happens. I want Erick to get busted.

Thank you Susanlynn.

"It is a good idea to teach kids that lesson at a verra early age."

I agree. It's too late for Erick and Daniela now.

"Is he meant to vie for Gabby's hand and take on the pipsqueak Frankie?"

I hope so. Franky doesn't deserve a nice girl like Gabriela.

Thank you Karen.

Without Humberto around, a part of Julia's problems would be solved.

Thank you gringo.

"Can't wait to see what Miguel finds on Erik's computer."

Me too. I hope it'll be good and that Erick will be busted.

Thank you Lila. I'm glad that you enjoyed the recap.

Thank you Anita.

Yes, all Julia needs is some hair from Eladio and David to get that DNA test done. Not sure why she hasn't thought of this. Going to Artie is NOT a smart move AT ALL.

Thank you Anon207

"Erik is worthless for betraying the man who took care of him all his life."

Well said. My thoughts exactly.

And yes, both Artie and Nina are to blame for how their kids turned out.

I agree. Julia should have gotten that test done herself.

Unless Eladio was the one who plucked his own hair, or swabbed his own cheek, and put it in the sealed envelope and delivered it to the lab himself, he would never believe any test that Julia somehow managed to secretly send off (without one of his spies seeing). He won't believe any test that she manages to have Arturo do either, so I don't know why she's bothering. She's not the one who has doubts, so it's not like she's the one who needs to have it done for her piece of mind. There's just no point, period, in doing the test, if Eladio refuses to participate.

Typo: Peace of mind. Although she does need to give Eladio a piece of her mind, tell him off once and for all about what an idiot he's being about his own son, and leave his a**.

I think the only thing that will eventually open Eladio's mind and dispel his doubts is when he finds out David boinked Dani and intends to boink Gina, and Julia DOESN'T care because they are NOT his sisters!

Of course that will be a wake up call to Eladio, Vivi,--I think I mentioned it a few episodes ago. I also think deep down inside Eladio knows David is his son, otherwise, knowing the kind of man he is, he would not want his fortune to go to David if he were not his son. True enough, he's only recently wanted David to join the family business. Franco must be several years older than David because he's BEEN in the business and David is just getting his engineering degree. Eladio's in a quandry because it would be odd for him to leave his fortune to Franco without raising eyebrows.

Julia is showing she's growing a bit of a spine now, but it's not strong enough to leave him. She had thought of going to live with David in Queretaro to get away from Eladio for awhile, but decided not to, even before she ever asked for a divorce.

Aren't they in Mexico City? If Julia wants a divorce and Eladio won't give her one, she can get a Divorce Express. It's been done in othe novelas.

Anita- It was you who first mentioned David's relations with Art's daughters would be the proof Eladio needs. I don't think Franco needs to be that much older than David. It might just be that Franco went straight to work for Eladio. Also, David is taking extra time to get a Masters degree, which he's just wrapping up.

I don't think Franco is older than David. I think they're the same age or Franco is a little younger. That's based on how long Caridad is in prison.

Anita,

I am an armchair geneticist. I have only been educated by the ID channel, forensic files, etc, the Will: Family Secrets Revealed, Deadline NBC, 20/20.... On those docu-shows, when or if they find a dead body and the parents are dead. They go to the next closest relative which is usually a brother or a sister....they compare the mitochondrial DNA and that is passed only from the mother to her children. So, if two siblings...have the same mitochondrial DNA, they can prove that they shared the same female relative. According to my television shows, each mother passes her unique mtDNA. Meaning, my daughter passes her own. My mtDNA will not be in my grand-daughter. Signed Cynderella, PHDTV
