Special Proximas Update

This came in late last week, but I wanted to make sure everyone saw it.  Encaje Rojo and Stevey have both had positive things to say about Amor de Barrio:

"OK, I'm here to speak on behalf of Amor de Barrio (which recently ended in Mexico.)

If it comes after La Vecina in the US, I recommend it be recapped because of the reasons below.

-Fernanda Sasse (she'll be there when you least expect it)
-Marisol del Olmo as a villana
-The length (although it is odd because it shared a thirty minute time slot in June with MIVAC for 2 weeks.)
-Renata Notni
-It's grounded and down-to-earth.

and many reasons more...

I recommend this to all Caray Contributors but if I have to get specific about it, Vivi, Sara, Julia, Lila, tofie and UA (she'd have a field day with a Karmageddeon Awaits on AdB post.)

-Encaje Rojo"

And from Stevey:

"I notice that, in this thread, Encaje Rojo spoke up about the merits of the aforementioned 'Amor de barrio', and I'd like to add my own voice to that particular argument. 'Amor de barrio' debuted to disappointing rating that (as it turns out) were not in any way a testimonial to the quality of the novela, as ALL Televisa novelas are now suffering a drop of AT LEAST 5-6 points in ratings. But, regardless of this, all critics have attested to this being a quality novela, one that warrants better ratings. In addition to that which Encaje Rojo mentioned, when it comes to things that 'Amor de barrio' has going for it, I can add Jessica Coch (who reminded everyone of her talents in her most recent role of the doomed Tania in 'Muchacha italiana viene a casarse) in a DUAL role as mentally ill antagonista, a supporting cast that includes the likes of veteran actors such as Manuel Landeta, Julieta Rosen, Juan Carlos Barreto, and Lisardo, as well as the fact that Marisol de Olmo does a kick-ass job in her role of evil matriarch Catalina Lopezreina, a role made for the likes of Diana Bracho, Daniela Romo, or Rocio Banquells."

And here's some more proximas news from Stevey:

I've got more news about the latest project from that bane to all of our existences, Nathalie Lartilleux (which, for those new to these pages, will be called "Un camino hacia el destino", a remake of a telenovela that aired on Azteca in 2003, called "La hija del jardinero".

Anyways, casting is going on in earnest. The latest confirmations that I have for you all are as follows:

Paulina Goto- Luisa Fernanda (protagonista)
Horacio Pancheri- tentatively named 'Carlos' (galan)
Harry Geithner (villain)
Ana Patricia Rojo (villana)
Manuel Landeta (another villain)
Rene Strickler (father of the galan)
Eugenia Cauduro (mother of the galan)

Filming for this one will commence by the end of November, with airing to follow 'La Vecina'. WE HAVE BEEN WARNED!!
(... and may God have mercy on all of our souls!!! (lol))

In other news...
casting for MaPat's latest, 'Corazon que miente' has been completed. In addition to that which we already know about on here (protagonists- Thelma Madrigal, Pablo Lyle, and Diego Olivera. Antagonists- Alejandro Tommasi, Lourdes Reyes. Supporting cast- Mayrin Villanueva, Helena Rojo, Alejandro Avila, Maria Sorte, Mariana von Rankin, Vanessa Restrepo), we can also add Jessica Mas and Alejandra Procuna in roles yet to be determined.

Also... casting for Juan Osorio / Silvia Navarro's latest, 'Sueño De Amor' is moving right along. The latest? Julian Gil has confirmed to join the cast in the role of (no! yes! GASP!) the villain!! Not much (as yet) to share with you about this one, only that it's been confirmed to air (and, reminder here- this is down MEXICO way...) after 'Antes muerta que Lichita'.

'Simplemente Maria' recently had its 'gran estreno', once 'Amor de barrio' ended. SM has debuted to woeful ratings compared to telenovelas-past, but those that are perfectly keeping in order with things if we adjust ourselves to this new reality (FYI- top ratings for a novela in this timeslot used to be around 18-19. NOW, they're 13-14. And, in case you're wondering, it's like this across the board. PRIME-TIME ratings used to be 25-26 (or better)... NOW, a novela is lucky if it can hit 20 (such as 'A que no me dejas', followed by 'Antes muerta que Lichita' and 'Pasion y Poder', who it seems lately can only HOPE to reach 20 points in ratings...)

Anyways, it remains to be seen how 'Simplemente Maria' will fare. ONE thing is for sure... as soon as I know, or if there is ANYTHING of interest that I have to share, you can bet that I will! :-)

And my continued best wishes to all!! :-)

Gracias, Stevey!

Kat, thank you so much for informing us of the latest and greatest (or not) yet to come.

I laughed at "Nathalie Lartilleux (La Gata, Corazon Indomable, and other unspeakable horrors)". I had to nod in agreement.

Now, A Que No Me Dejas has really intrigued me. Leticia Calderon, Arturo Peniche, Alfredo Adame, Osvaldo Benavides, Erika Buenfil AND Cesar Evora?? Count me in whenever this airs.

Appreciate all the time you put into this and thanks stevey for your contribution.

Diana

Gracias, Diva, for this on-going breaking newsfeed in the novella world! This feature gives me a heads up for possible great shows and warns me of turkeys like those produced by LaToodle-O -- yikes! I must say, Encaje Rojo, to be named amongst the legendary likes of Vivi, Sara, Julia, tofie and UA is quite the honor! I will be watching this space for air dates!

Wow! Thank you Kat, Encaje Rojo, and Stevey for all the great info about what's coming from Mexico soon. Will definitely check out Amor de Barrio with your recommendations.

Things of interest to me:

- Lucero will play part in the Lazos de Amor remake (having been the protagonist in the original)? Interesting! I thought since she's signed with Telemundo at the moment, she wouldn't be doing anything for Televisa. Not surprising that they have cast Rulli and Boyer together again. The audience really seems to love their chemistry.

- Also making a habit of being cast together, are Thelma M and Pablo L. I like them both and enjoy seeing them grow as actors.

- Shocked Silvia Navarro is back in the telenovela game so soon after having her baby. Girl is a workaholic!

- Really looking forward to Hotel de Secretos.

- Not touching anything from Nathalie Lartilleux with a ten foot pole.

Gracias, Kat.

Amor de Barrio sounds interesting but I don't know if I can do double duty through two entire series simultaneously. I have six weeks left of it until YNCELH ends (probably on New Year's Eve, if we have the usual pre-emptions in between). I will look into it in advance just to see what it's all about.

I wish we were getting paid for this.

Having enjoyed MCET, I definitely could be interested in another Juan Osorio production with Silvia Navarro. Can't wait to see what the plot turns out to be and who other cast members are.

Gracias, all! I'm happy these weekly posts have been useful and glad that so many have stepped forward to keep us updated on the proximas :)

I suppose I should say that the dig at Latoodle is only my personal opinion, and while it may be shared by many here, it's not the official opinion of the blog, etc., etc., etc. so if anyone's thinking "Hey, I was looking forward to that one!" don't worry. As long as there's at least one person willing to champion it, there's still a chance it could get recapped. Like I said, though, someone's going to have to think it's worth the commitment, and that means plenty of audience participation. Even the most stalwart volunteers get discouraged when no one seems to be paying attention!

Dankjewel, Diva! (Thank You in Dutch.)

Also, dankjewel for the AdB recommendation recognition. I will warn you ahead of time that, as good a show it is, there are beanie-tightening moments.

Here is the first promo for the new novela El Hotel de los Secretos.
