Antes muerta que Lichita #51 Wednesday 12/2/15 "The Rise of the Black Panther"

Wow! What an episode! So many details! So let's get right to it. . . .

Just when we thought Alicia had gotten into the cab with Pits (El Axilas) it turns out that they played us in the previews and that Roberto appears just in time to prevent Alicia from ever getting into the taxi. He grabs Alicia by the arm and tells her that he has to talk to her about work and he will drive her home. What he says really does not make much sense and he has a hard time convincing her, but he manages to get her away from the taxi after a lot of arguing back and forth. Roberto tells her to wait for him at the reception desk and call her parents as he pays the taxi driver (who is already looking at him warily) a visit. Alicia remembers she did lose her phone and grudgingly goes inside complaining that Roberto always gets his way. So now we have just Pits and Roberto. Pits is afraid because he recognizes Roberto. Roberto grabs Pits by the hair on the back of the head and asks what he was doing with Alicia. Pits lies and says he was just taking her home. Roberto does not believe him one bit and tells him that if he sees him around Alicia and her family, Roberto will make Pits swallow his own fists (better that I stop here with the more than colorful description that follows).

At the Gutiérrez household, Flops (El Chanclas) is installed on the couch when he gets a phone call from Alicia. Boy is he surprised. She explains she forgot her cell phone and was just calling to say she was on her way. Magos comes to chit chat on the couch. Flops starts talking about Magos, Ximena and him, just the three of them in their own house. They wake up Nacho who has had it with their lack of respect for him and his house. He tells them go talk in their own house but not in his at that time of the night. Of course Magos has to complain.

At work, Alicia is complaining that she does not understand why she had to call her parents. They weren't even worried or looking for her. Roberto says that when he saw that taxi driver he got a real bad feeling. Alicia gets real combative and sarcastic wondering what he is doing at Icónika at that hour of the night; just coming by to save her from taxi drivers??? They argue back and forth about why he was there and what they need to discuss (ends up being Alex's campaign) but he does take her home.

Nacho is going on telling El Chanclas how sick he is of the clonking noise he makes in his house. Why can't he wear regular shoes like decent people? Elsa is up now and comes out to see what the ruckus is. Next Ximena is up. Ximena chimes in about not liking chanclas (the shoes) either. Magos jumps on her for getting on her father's case. Elsa tells them to all go to bed or the only one making noise with the chanclas will be her hitting all of them with the chanclas. El Chanclas suggests to Magos that they find their own little nest to live in and they move on into the kitchen. Magos likes that idea. She decides to go to bed and El Chanclas calls El Axilas to see what happened. El Axilas is working in a restaurant kitchen but has time to tell him that he had no idea that the Black Panther was involved. El Chanclas has no idea who he is talking about. El Axilas says the Black Panther showed up to save Alicia. He is just like a killer and must work at Icónika. It is a miracle he got out of there alive. He won't mess with the Black Panther. Better not to call him anymore.

Outside the Gutiérrez house Alicia and Roberto have just arrived and Alicia tells Roberto she does not understand that after what they have been through why he is still worried about her. He says he does not understand what she means. She says that talking about Alex's campaign could have really waited until tomorrow. Alicia is not in the mood for any chit chat. Roberto ends up telling her he does not trust El Chanclas and that she should be careful around him. She gives him a pissy quizzical look and goes inside where El Chanclas is pretending to be asleep on the couch frustrated by the failure of his plan.

When Roberto gets back in his car, Gumaro pops up in the back seat with a bag full of food startling Roberto. Roberto is not going anywhere. He is planning on watching over the Gutiérrez house until dawn. Gumaro wants to know why Roberto can't tell Alicia the whole truth about El Chanclas. If he were to do that they would have to get into El Axilas and how he knew him from jail, etc. Roberto starts in on the food, too.

The next morning at the table at the Gutiérrez house, Nacho is still going on about El Chanclas and him running late which means he will be late to work. Magos tells them that they will be looking for their own place where the three of them can live like the family they are. Nobody looks happy with that news except for Magos. Nacho leaves the table. Elsa says, trying to convince herself, that this is really a sign that Magos is growing up. Trying to be helpful, Alicia tells Magos that she can still count on her to help with Ximena's tuition and whatever else she needs. Magos thanks her. Skulking El Chanclas hears that and tells himself that it is so good to know.

Roberto sees everyone leave the house except for Magos and El Chanclas. He wakes up Gumaro (who says he is not sleeping just watching his eyelids on the inside) and tells him it is really important that he tells him anything suspicious about El Chanclas that he might see. Gumaro leaves the car on his mission hissing and close to the ground like a snake.

At the breakfast table at Augusto's mansion, Augusto is holding courts so to speak. Luciana wants to know if her new position is important or just something he gave her to keep her entertained. Dafne whispers to Alex it is probably the latter and leaves for school. Rafael though is wondering if Luciana got the job on her own merit. Beatriz and Valeria jump to defend Luciana as well as Augusto. it does not look as if Rafael believes a word of it.

At the orphanage, Mateo is telling Roberto about everything being dark and him having his eyes open. Roberto says if it were 't a dream then maybe he was remembering something bad. Mateo does not know but is all excited about meeting his new mother and wants to know when that is going to happen. Roberto gives him a convoluted answer but Mateo does not know the difference. Roberto tells him they can talk about his super hero mom. Mateo does not want to. Roberto tells him he has to stop being angry with her or the anger going to be like a little stone in his heart that he will not know he is carrying. Mateo just wants to play. Roberto looks depressed.

Back at the mansion, Luciana is telling everybody that even if her parents are leaving the mansion she would like to stay there. Beatriz agrees and gets Augusto to agree that Rafael and Valeria can stay at the mansion at least until Luciana's wedding. He even apologizes for his prior bad attitude. He is all smiles. Rafael says since they insist, he and Valeria will stay. Beatriz looks heavenward and thanks God. To her annoyance, Augusto answers "you're welcome."

Gumaro is phoning in his report on El Chanclas and Magos. Agent Gumaro reports that just a short time ago, El Chanclas and Magos left traveling to the north towards Icónika. They kissed four times: two times French kisses and to tell the truth El Chanclas is not a good kisser. He thinks that El Axilas must have given a heads up to El Chanclas that the Black Panther was out there. Roberto is not so sure but he knows how to deal with those kind of scummy people. Gumaro is over and out: he just arrived at his job. He is really getting some turkey and rajas ( roasted poblano peppers) at a street stand.

At Icónika, Roberto sees that El Chanclas and Magos have both arrived. In Alicia's office, Elías can see that Alica is exhausted from working as hard as she has been and tries to get her to sleep a little. She is stubborn and insists she will be just fine. As soon as she sits down at her desk Sandra is there asking her for the previews of the campaigns for today. She is working on them right now. Sandra warns her about not coordinating the creative directors. If she does not know how to do it, just ask to avoid problems. Alicia lets her know that she knows what Sandra told the creative directors about basically ignoring her. Of course, Sandra denies it. Sandra tells her to try to do her job without excuses. Alicia tells us how tired she is of everything and just worn out.

At the coffee cart, El Chanclas is telling Magos that they should pick up Magos at school because he has a surprise for her and also for Magos. Magos is all excited. She just needs to be back at work on time.

In the conference room Alicia is giving an ad presentation to some clients and it is clear that she is exhausted as it goes along. She finally just passes out. Elías jumps to her aid. Sandra ignores her.

El Chanclas and Magos (in his car) pick up Ximena at school. She is not too excited to see them because her grandparents won't know where she is. Magos tells her that they know that she Magos is picking her up. El Chanclas is talking about getting some tacos and then seeing about renting a place where all three of them can live together. Ximena is not happy. Magos is happy with the surprise. Ximena is worried about Magos being late getting back to work. She tells her that can wait. It is more important to deal with the future of their family. Magos asks where will they be looking to rent. El Chanclas says Querétero. Magos thinks Querétero street. No, he means the city of Querétero (about 80 miles from Mexico DF). Suddenly Ximena is not the only one who looks uncomfortable. Magos does not look happy with that news.

Back at Icónika, everyone but Sandra is trying to revive Alicia. They call for a doctor. Sandra apologizes to the clients and leaves. Alicia comes to. Brisas is hoping Alicia is pregnant with Alex's baby: No Alicia is not pregnant. The doctor says that Alicia is suffering from extreme fatigue and stress and that she needs to rest. She asks for some vitamins. The doctor agrees but repeats that she needs rest.

Still in the car, El Chanclas talks Magos into going to Querétero for the rest of the day. Ximena does not want to go. Magos is tired of Ximena saying "no" to anything having to do with her father. Ximena asks that they stop at home so she can change out of her heavy uniform so she won't be too warm. Magos thinks it is a good idea. She can change from her uniform, too, and then they will be on their way. Magos and Ximena have to end up pushing El Chanclas in his car.

When they arrive home, Ximena wants to call her grandparents to let them know where they are going. Magos tells her to just get ready and she can call them from the car when they are on their way. El Chanclas tells Magos not to forget her credit card.

Roberto drops by Alicia's office to see how she is. He wants to know all about her fainting and what happened. He wants to know what the doctor had to say. If she needs any tests he can take her. She says she is just worn out so he gave her some vitamins. Nothing more. He asks: Nothing more? She repeats: nothing more. He will go and get any medicine she needs. She did it already. It was more a a scare than anything else. She thanks him for coming by and worrying about her. She tells him how it is: if the creative directors don't follow her orders, she has to do the work. The buck stops with her. Roberto says he knows she wants to gain their respect but not at the cost of her health. She is all about proving she did not get the job just because she is the fiancée of the owner's son. He should know that better than anybody. Fátima comes in with here vitamin order from the drugstore and the news that Magos disappeared from work hours ago and never came back. The guy in charge of the coffee (El Chanclas) is missing, too. Roberto is worried.

In another office, Sandra is telling Elías that Alicia's situation is not her fault. She simply cannot deal with the pressure. Elías accuses her of being jealous because Alicia is one of those women who can have it all: a successful career, an exemplary marriage and even a family. Sandra insists that is not the case. Women have to decide on either success at work or success with a family. Elías tells her how wrong she is: she dedicated herself to her profession from a very young age and sacrificed their relationship as a couple but a lot of women can do both. Sandra is fed up listening to him blaming her as if she were the only one responsible for their failure as a couple. He reminds her that very soon she won't have to listen to his complaints any more because she will be very far away.

At the mansion, Rafael is helping Dafne with her piano playing when Valeria, Beatriz and Luciana come in talking about wedding preparations. Rafael tells them all how impressed he is with Dafne and asks her if she would like to pose for him for a portrait. Dafne is so excited and happy until Luciana mentions she will be like a Botero (Colombian artist who likes to portray people as large/chubby) painting. Dafne says at least she is not as ignorant as Luciana. The topic quickly changes to Luciana's wedding. She wants a really long train for her veil and hundreds and hundreds of guests, the most expensive wedding in Mexico. Much to Luciana's annoyance, Valeria talks about how Luciana's wedding will be really lovely but her cousin Alex's will be the most luxurious. Rafael reminds her of the real meaning of marriage between her and the man she loves with her family who loves her present. That alone will make her wedding unique. Anyway, the weddings will be on different days (eventhough at the same church: St. Cayetana's), so who will compare them? Beatriz says they have to decide where to have the receptions. Luciana would love hers held at the Alcázar(fortress) of Chaputlepec Castle. Dafne just shakes her head.

Waiting for Ximena to change, Magos and El Chanclas are watching the soap opera "Corazón enamorado" on line which seems to have turned into an opera. Magos goes to see, what is taking Ximena so long. Ximena is standing in her room with the door locked shouting that she does not want to go to Querétero while Magos bangs on the door. Finally she opens the door, El Chanclas grabs Ximena by the arm warning her he is doing it the easy way and they are off.

Now we have a quick trip to St. Cayetana's for more comic relief where the priest and a nun are having a problem communicating about how many wedding there are going to be. (It seems the priest is a little deaf)One or two? Who said what? Toledo y Mondragón, you say? Luciana and Alejandro? The nun ends up saying it is too bad there aren't glasses for one's ears to help one hear better.

Nacho is mopping at the café and chatting with Elsa when Roberto stops by to give them a heads up about El Chanclas. He first asks where their grand daughter is. Elsa says she is off with Magos. Magos told them she was going to pick her up with El Chanclas. They are her parents anyway. Roberto wants her to call Magos and asks how Ximena is. Elsa and Nacho become fearful of what is going on.

El Chanclas, Magos and Ximena are still in Mexico, DF but driving when Ximena asks why she just can't be left behind. El Chanclas gives her a toy that she can play with in Querétero. Ximena takes it and throws it out of the window saying she already told him she does not like those kinds of toys. El Chanclas has had it with her and the truth comes out. First he asks her if she wants to know what a father is like. He tells her will see because he is going to give her one of those beatings that will make her learn. Furthermore, she should just forget about her grandparents because she is never going back to their house. Ximena is silent. Magos is shocked.

As Roberto tries to explain the situation he tells Nacho and Elsa that El Chanclas is associating with a guy who was in jail and who is involved in criminal ventures. A very good friend of his who was in jail with the guy knows him. He adds being in jail does not make one bad or a liar. Nacho reminds Elsa that he always said that El Chanclas gave him a bad feeling. Elsa says she was just supporting her daughter. Roberto breaks up the argument and says he could be exaggerating and if that is the case he apologizes. Elsa grabs her phone and calls Magos who answers. She asks Magos where they are. Magos says that the three of them are real happy when Ximena grabs the phone and starts telling Elsa that El Chanclas is taking them away and that they are never coming home. They are going to live in Querétero. El Chanclas starts trying to grab the cell phone from Ximena as he is driving.

Alicia is with Augusto in his office where he makes the comment how he wished that her fainting spell had been a sign she were pregnant with Alex's baby his grand child. What a pity that is not possible. Alicia explains it was only fatigue. Anyway, he admires her will power that she stayed at work in spite of her feeling so poorly. She states she has a commitment to her job and she tries to fill it the best that she can. Augusto goes on to say that she looks a lot better than when she first started at Icónika but he wants her to even look more polished so he is going to give her some advisors to help her with that. If he considers it necessary, it is fine by her. Yes, he considers it necessary.

El Chanclas finally grabs the phone and tells Elsa and Nacho that everything is tranqui(l). Nacho tells him to bring back his daughter and granddaughter because he will be sorry if he doesn't. That won't be possible and Nacho won't have to be bothered by his "flip flop flip flop" anymore either. He hangs up. Elsa wants to call the police but Roberto reminds her that Ximena is with her parents and that that is not a crime. Roberto tells them that he himself is going to go to Querétero to find them.

Back in the car, El Chanclas wants to know what is wrong with Magos. She is upset because you don't do things the way he does them. He sees no problem since Alicia really loves Ximena she will support them. She can give them money if she wants to keep seeing Ximena. Magos wants her phone back. El Chanclas does not want to give it to her so they start struggling over it as he is trying to drive. At the same time, Roberto is hot on their trail just several miles outside of Querétero. He is talking to Gumaro who tells him to drive carefully. He quickly stops his car when he sees he has a call from a lawyer Mr. García.

Magos and El Chanclas are still fighting over the phone and the car is all over the road. He goes to send a text to the guy he is going to rent the house from and crashes the car.

At Icónika, Alicia has a premonition when talking to Braulio. She keeps rubbing her chest and says she had a feeling like something bad was happening. Braulio leaves. Alicia wonders. Her phone rings and someone is telling her about an accident.

Funny how everybody thought Alicia was pregnant just because she fainted. Watching too many telenovelas???

Jarifa, I always look forward to Thursday mornings as I know there will be an exceptional recap from you. And lo and behold, here it is.

You always summarize the action and events so deftly. Wonderful...

"Flops" and "When Roberto gets back in his car, Gumaro pops up in the back seat with a bag full of food" were my favorites among many.

I just love Gumaro: "He wakes up Gumaro (who says he is not sleeping just watching his eyelids on the inside)". How can you not??

I feel Roberto is starting to be redeemed. I loved his words of wisdom "Roberto tells him he has to stop being angry with her or the anger going to be like a little stone in his heart that he will not know he is carrying". Heartfelt and touching. I also appreciate that he is looking out for Magos and Ximena.

The change in El Chanclas was startling. It is only now that Magos is starting to realize he is not what he seems. Why is it that Ximena knew all along he was no good and I didn't? Children are so perceptive.

I wish Sandra would step away from the dark side. Wouldn't she and Alicia be an amazing team? Sandra is bitter, petty and angry. I suggest a clean break from Augusto and a change of priorities. Pronto.

Alicia is clearly exhausted. Yet, she soldiers on without complaint, doing what she feels she must. And continues to be kind and patient to all in her orbit. She sets the bar quite high, doesn't she?

Thanks so much Jarifa!

Diana

This is great Jarifa, thank you.

"She gives him a pissy quizzical look"

I hope the TN doesn't make Alicia pregnant and it is exhaustion, it should be the girl works her butt off.

Even in the car before they departed Magos was saying perhaps Alicia could lend them the money for a house. Will this straighten her up and will Elsa stop enabling her. Elsa calls it support but it is not and I lay blame at her feet too.

Sandra is one bitter bitch.

Jarifa-- Wow. Fantastic job on the recap.

Alicia was very clear that there was NO other reason that she fainted, and the doc also dispelled any pregnancy rumors, so I really don't think the writers are going to go there.

I just want to throttle Sandra for what she's doing to Alicia. And as folks here have pointed out, it's not only petty and evil, it's bad business. How can Agusto be ok with allowing all his major clients to get shoddy work from all his creative team, and his star creative director to fall over from exhaustion. They are shooting themselves in their own foot.

So glad Rob and Gumaro stayed on the Chanclas case, kept Alicia from getting kidnapped, and that this all forced Chanclas to reveal his true face to Ximena (who knew all along) and Magos (the dope). As this is a light comedy, I have faith that they will all pull through this car accident. Perhaps this will be what finally makes Magos grow up and take responsibility.

Thanks, Jarifa. I missed most of this. Great coverage of an action-packed episode.

Yay, glad everyone is now onto Flops [thanks, Jarifa]. If Magos doesn't throttle him after this, I don't see Ximena ever respecting her mom.

The Black Panther? Looking forward to finding out how Roberto got this nickname in prison.

Wow! What a great Thursday morning read. Loved every word of it. Thank you Jarifa.

And Thank you Ezra from yesterday. I had to get out and work and so I didn't have time to comment after your recap was up. Loved your screen shots.

I was so angry at Sandra last night that I could hardly stand it. Alicia flat out collapses and is totally out on the floor---everyone is concerned and Sandra never even looked up from her computer. Tofie, you sure got it right when you wrote that Sandra was/is a bitter bitch.

And speaking of Sandra---what did Elias mean when he said that Sandra would soon be far away?

The day before yesterday I kept waiting for Alicia to discover that her phone was missing but nothing was said. Then last night, it was just skimmed over like it was no big thing. Que?

A big wake-up call for Magos? I sure hope so. It's time for her to really join in and be an active part of the family. Vacation is over Magos. It's now time to start being responsible.

must see tv
the gringo

Gringo- Sandra already hinted to Elias that she will be leaving the country soon (to take over Iconika's expansion to the U.S.), so that's what he's talking about.

Chanclas never did put Alicia's phone back, but he only took it to make sure she was incommunicado when she was kidnapped. This episode, Braulio gave her a new cell phone, with her same number and all her contacts, so the old phone has been deactivated.

Thanks for the explanations Vivi.

That's great. With Sandra gone, Alicia will be able to unleash her creative genius.
I can't wait for that---or for tonight's show either.

the gringo

Don't celebrate too soon, gringo. It's likely that Agusto just made up the whole thing about him and Sandra going to the US to expand Iconika, just to keep Sandra on a short leash.

Thank you everyone for your kind comments. I really enjoyed doing last night's recap with so much action. The writers are doing an excellent job with some very original turns of phrases some not readily translatable for prime time. Too funny! Btw, when Elsa was threatening to beat them all with a chancla, it reminded me of a very funny comedic YouTube offering from a couple of years back which depicted how a mother could keep her kids in line with a well aimed chancla. It was something like the power of the chancla.

Hey, yet another word for a beating: la tunda.

Diana good to see you back! It was interesting that Ximena did see through El Chanclas from the very start no matter how he tried to appear nice and friendly. What a creep!

Niecie, I love that someone as conservative looking and low key as Roberto could be called the Black Panther. It is just so incongruous. Could it be that his almost beating that guy to death in jail gave him that nickname and that reputation or is there something more? I am wondering, too.

Vivi, yes, Magos is a dope and a bad hearted one at that. All she could think of was a free ride for herself with El Chanclas. When I saw her and Ximena pushing him in his car, I thought that is what there lives would be like if they ended up with him.

Gringo, the "carrot" being used to entice Sandra to go to the USA is that she and Augusto will live there together. Why is "when pigs fly" my current reaction to that possibility?

Tofie, "bitter bitch" sure describes Sandra. I still don't get why Augusto does not put the brakes on her re: her treatment of Alicia. He has so much to gain from Alicia being successful and appearing happily married to Alex.

Wonderful recap as always!

OMG Sandra just keeps losing major points! Elias was right about the envy because there is no other explanation for her disdain of Alicia.

OMG Ximena has to come out 100% okay. And I'm hoping Chanclas is gone for good now, one way or the other. With this accident will Magos finally get her act together? I'm not sure she will. She is the type that uses people and that doesn't just go away.

Loved when Augie said "You're welcome" to Bea's thanks to Dios.

I've been pretty hard on Rob but he has been awesome with regards to Chanclas and Axils(?) and looking out for the family. I wonder if Alicia will find out that he went after Chanclas and Magos. I can't imagine Elsa and Nacho will keep it from her. Maybe it will make her soften towards him again. Though he also needs to put a stop to telling her that she is selling herself.

I think Alicia would be very grateful Roberto is looking out for the family but I remember the poor girl when she gave herself honestly and he tore her heart out and stomped on it. She's cried bucketfuls over the guy and he continues to hurt her so until the tells her the whole truth he's stays on my dodo list.

I'm afraid Alicia will blame herself if Ximena is hurt because she was too busy and once told her to give her dad a chance. No one other than Alicia in the house even noticed Ximena was in distress and when she acted out Magos shut her up.

I'm as mad at Elsa as I am at Magos.

Carvivlie, I, too, wonder if Magos can change much. I have pretty much written her off.

Tofie, ITA Elsa is the queen enabler when it comes to Magos.
