Pasión y Poder Episode #36 Friday, December 25th 2015 Nina turns over a new leaf.. or so it seems, David and Regina make love, and Eladio calls Artie a loser.

Merry Christmas everyone. Hope that you all had a beautiful day today with your family and friends.

Gisela doesn't want Consuelo rooming with her and Clara. Three's a crowd, after all, and they only have ONE bathroom to pee in for crying out loud. Clara puts her foot down and reminds the old hag that this is HER home and if she allows her to live there it's because the hag doesn't have anywhere else to live. So Consuelo's stays! And Gisela better be nice to her! Period.

Eladio wants NOTHING from Artie. Hummy (Humberto) goes on and on about why Eladio should enlist in Team Regina and David. He'd make Julia happy! Plus, he'd have access to all of the Montenegro fortune including a part of his properties if Regina and David get hitched. Eladio smells a rat bastard when he sees one and he knows Hummy is only thinking about what is convenient for his crummy old himself. He threatens to send him back to Shady Pines and then taunts him a little by messing with the cables of his oxygen tank. Over at The Patio, we all cross our fingers and hope this is the end of the old man, but before he does any real damage to the old man he walks off. Darn.

Erick returns home and tries to avoid talking to his folks. But Artie asks him to the living room before he counts to five. Artie and Nina (who is now magically siding with Artie) rip him a new one. They both know very well that he's still getting it on with his little Ratt friend. Artie informs him that his wife has left Casa Montenegro. Yippeee! Erick's glad to hear that. He couldn't stand watching Consuelo flirting with that creepy guy with the dorky glasses- Miguel. Artie tells him to cut the crap and to be a man and face his responsibilities. Artie tells Erick to bring Consuelo back to the house or else. Erick lets his dad that he's divorcing Consuelo. And that he could care less about that child!

Consuelo cries because she wasn't able to save her marriage to a scumbag jerk rat-faced little daddy's boy. Clara says it isn't your fault.. it's the Ratt's fault. Oh, yeah, and Erick's to blame too. He's a big fat jerk. Clara reminds Consuelo that she has the baby as a reason to move forward. Consuelo agrees. It's for her child that she won't allow herself to be defeated. Whatever that means. Clara tells Consuelo that she can count on her for anything. Hugs.

Oh, no he didn't. Artie cannot believe his ears. How could Erick say such a thing?! When is he going to learn to be a MAN for goodness sake?! Nina backs Artie up. She tells Erick that he can't rid himself of the responsibility just like that. Artie says that Miguel would never ever get involved with his sister in law. He may stalk her but get involved with her... NEVER in a million years! Erick's not so sure... just look at the purple spot that Miguel left on his pretty little face.Artie tells Erick that while parents fight and get divorced sometimes.. the children are always a tie that binds the parents together. Erick says that- it was the reason why he wanted to get a divorce before. Because he knew that it had been a mistake to marry Consuelo. But his dad didn't allow it. Artie tells Erick to face the consequences of his own actions. The argument starts getting a little more heated between father and son.. and Nina intervenes. She plays nice and says that she has understood that what matters is family and not what others around them say. Artie buys this hook, line, and sinker and is glad to hear that she's thinking right for once. Then he yells at Erick and tells him to bring Consuelo back home because it's her house more than it is Erick's. Oh snap.

The Ratt talks about her sex life with Aldo over drinks. Yuck. Oh, how she loves being in Erick's not so manly arms. Aldo thinks The Ratt should be looking for a stable economic future with Eladio. Oh, but Erick's soooo handsome, young (Ha!), and passionate! The Ratt says. Aldo reminds her that Erick's just a daddy's boy that can't give her the life that she's used to. The Ratt knows. But being with Erick is like an addiction that she can't give up especially if she can have Eladio's money and Erick's love at the same time.

Erick and Nina are alone now. Erick can't believe that Nina has decided to side with Artie all of a sudden. Well, Nina has decided to give Artie what he wants, so she can get back in his good graces again. She and Daniela have already agreed to follow Artie's every command. And Erick has to do his part too. Erick agrees. But asks his mom to tell him her plan next time, because he thought Nina had gone nuts. Nina says that if he hadn't been wasting time with his Ratt then he would have known. Nina tells Erick that they can't continue to provoke Artie or else they'll end up losing. She reminds Erick that he and only he has to be the heir of the whole Montenegro fortune.

Franco shows up at Eladio's study to do his butt kissing of the day. Eladio lets Franco know that David has left the torture chamber, err Casa Gomez Luna. Eladio lets Franco know how he called David out for having helped Artie with the workers and how David called him out for bribing the union leader guy. Changing the subject, Franco says that he came by to ask him if he needed anything. Well, Eladio doesn't need anything. Franco is about to leave the room, but Eladio calls him back in. Eladio tells Franco that he doesn't want Julia to know that David has left the house. Franco agrees to back his padrino up because he can always count on him to kiss his behind. Yeahhh riiight. Franco tries to shake his padrino's hand but Eladio dismisses him by singling him out the room. Ha!

Erick accepts to go along with Nina's little plan. But he begs his mom not to make him be with Consuelo for the rest of his life. It'd be THE worst punishment ever! Nina tells him that he has to get back together with her.. at least until she gives birth. Then they'll find a way to get him the divorce. And as for the baby.. well, he'll have to keep it.. because of Artie. Well, Erick would rather let Consuelo keep it. Nina tells him that he just isn't getting it. She too could care less about that baby.. that she doesn't even know where it come from. Oh the horror of being seen as a grandmother at her age. *shudder* But they'll have to suck it up. Erick doesn't know if he'll be able too. Well, Nina has a way for him to be able to. She tells him that when he has to doubts to think about what his life would be penniless and without his daddy's support.

It's a beautiful morning and perfect for some dirty negotiations. And that's what Eladio is up to so early in the morning. He meets up with the union leader guy and first let's him have it for allowing Artie to start the construction of the stores. Union leader guy explains that it was out of his hands. He kept his word to keep up the strike and hasn't sat down with Artie to negotiate... yet. And maybe  he should. Eladio hits the desk with his fist and tells the union leader guy that he can't do anything unless he asks him to. Union leader guy says that his people can't be without working for so long. Eladio tells him not to worry about that. They'll get paid well, because he's the one that will be in charge of building the stores now. Union leader guy is muuuy impactado.

Over at Grupo Montenegro, Artie isn't having a very good morning. Augie stops by and lets his pal know that Santiago has cancelled their contract with them on the grounds that Artie didn't follow the timeline of the construction of the stores.

Union leader guy thinks that Eladio won that business deal to build the stores thanks to him. Eladio brings him down a peg or two and says umm... no, it wasn't thanks you. If he won the deal it was thanks to the money he paid him and his skill of dirty negotiations. Union leader guy wants to know what's the next part of the plan. Eladio says that for starters he's not to negotiate with Artie.. at least not now. Union leader guy says that he can count on that. Eladio tells the union leader guy how winning this business deal is the start of what is come against Artie. Next he'll give Artie a wet willy when he isn't looking.

Back at Grupo Montenegro, Artie can't get in contact with the union leader guy. The secretary told him that the guy is in the city.. but Artie doesn't believe it. Artie can't seem to find a way out of this Santiago situation and he wonders why all of this is happening to him. Umm.. maybe because you have the hots for your worst enemy's wife, Artie. Just saying.

Over in Queretaro, David and Regina are eating out again. David tells Regina how he had to leave his house after seeing how his dad reacted. If he left the house it was because of a mutual agreement between him and his dad. Yeah, that's it, a mutual agreement. Regina asks if his dad kicked him out. David says it was for the best. That way he'll avoid arguments with him. Regina says she's sorry because that could distance him from his mom. He knows and that's the only thing that worries him. He'll have to see her down at the foundation or someplace else. David says that there's something more- he's poor now and doesn't have money. He only has what she can see and his job. Regina doesn't care that he's poor now and asks him where's he's staying. He tells her that he's crashing at Francisco's again. Regina tells him how things aren't that good over at her place either. She tells him how her mom hit the roof when she found out about them and that she wants them to break up. But she won't ever break up with him. Artie calls her and lets her know that the construction of the stores won't take place no more. She wonders who will build the stores now.

At the hospital, Franco tells Gaby how his padrino doesn't want Julia to know that David has left the house. Gaby agrees that she shouldn't find out because it could affect her. He tries to get info from her on whether David plans to return back home. She tells him that she doesn't know and doubts it. He tells her that he hopes that David and Eladio settle their differences. Liar. He and Gaby start smooching right there in the hospital lobby and Hummy shows up and isn't amused AT ALL.

Regina tells David how her dad will lose a ton of money with the end of this contract with Santiago. She tells him that his dad got upset with him for helping her out for nothing. He tells her to not to feel bad about that. If he helped her out it was because he wanted to and he'd do it anything if he had to. He says that he hopes that his dad isn't behind this sudden change of mind of Santiago. Dream on, David. Regina wonders when the war between their dads will end. When they stop acting like children, I guess.

Erick is badmouthing Regina to Augie. Artie shows up and tells him to quit whining to Augie. He asks Erick if Consuelo is back at home. Erick says that his mommy hasn't called him to let him know if she has returned. Artie says that Erick is the one that has to go and look for her. He tells him not to even think about stepping foot in Casa Montenegro without Consuelo. Erick leaves. Artie gets a call from Franco. Franco wants to know what Artie's answer is to the blackmail.

Regina and David agree to continue their interrupted romantic dinner from before tonight.

Julia explains to Franco that if Artie came to see her it was to see how she was doing. He was there at the hospital and found out about her and got worried. Franco tells his madrina that he doesn't understand. From where do they know each other? Julia explains that she and Artie were novios a long long time ago. Franco tells Julia that she can count on his discretion. He won't tell Eladio that Artie came to see her. She thanks him for his discretion. Hummy gets wheeled in by the male nurse (who we find out is called Martin). Hummy rudely dismisses Franco by sending him to fetch him a glass of water and then dismisses the male nurse. Julia calls him out on him being rude to Franco. Hummy says that he did that so Franco doesn't forget his place. He's nothing but a mere trusted employee. Hummy can't believe that Julia allows Gaby to go out with a nobody like Franco.

Eladio meets up with Santiago. Eladio wants to go with Santiago to speak with the Santa Fe peeps about allowing his construction over there. He wants to explain to the peeps that it was all a misunderstanding. Santiago isn't really convinced that it was indeed a misunderstanding. He says that the services aren't going to be enough and wants Eladio to fix it. Eladio says that he'll do just that. Yeahhh riiiiight. Eladio wants Santiago to help him convince the peeps about allowing the construction. Santiago says that he can count on that. But before they go to meet with them, Santiago has to meet up his partner at the country club. Eladio agrees to come along.

Hummy tells Julia that he doesn't want his granddaughter to be going out with a nobody like Franco. Julia defends Franco and tells Hummy that Franco is Eladio's righthand man and has a future. Not only that, but Franco is very much like Eladio, much to her dislike. She tells her dad that she's Team Franco and Gaby all the way and that Eladio is right there with her. Hummy says that if she doesn't intervene then he will because he doesn't want Franco and Gaby to be together.

Forget the romantic dinner. Regina and David skip right to dessert. They start getting busy right there in Regina's hotel room after telling each other how much they love each other.

Franco meets up with Artie at the country club to talk about the blackmail when Eladio shows up and catches Franco meeting with Artie. Franco gets nervous. Artie smirks.

Regina and David make love. Uni edited the scene but we missed nothing.

Franco lies to save his butt and pretends to have met with Artie to tell him not to insist with the project over in Tabasco. Artie stands up and tells Franco to be a man and admit that he was trying to blackmail him. Franco tells Artie to go ahead and tell Eladio the whole truth if he wants. But Artie doesn't. Instead he tells Eladio that he did everything to get the workers and the only thing he had left to do was know for sure that Eladio was behind it all. Santiago says he's sorry not sorry but that's how business is. Artie knows that Santiago and Eladio teamed up to screw him over. Eladio tells Artie not to blame Santiago. Next time Artie should be sure that he'll able to do the job.

Julia tells Gaby that Hummy isn't okay with her relationship with Franco. Gaby says that she loves Franco and doesn't care about his origin. Julia advises her niece not to break up with Franco then if she really loves him. She doesn't want Gaby to be pressured by Hummy like she and Gaby's mom were. We find out that Gaby's mom and dad are still together and happy. The doctor comes in and tells Julia that he needs to talk to her.

Artie calls Santiago out on playing dirty. He thinks Santiago knew all along that he was negotiating with the union because Eladio provoked the strike. Eladio says that Artie has no proof about that. Santiago says he doesn't know if Artie's accusation against Eladio is true or not. What he does know is that Artie didn't remain in Tabasco to negotiate. Eladio says that Santiago was free to hire someone else to build his stores when Artie didn't follow the contract. Artie is sarcastic about it turning out to be Eladio who was hired to build the stores. Eladio tells Artie to accept that he lost. Not even with David and Regina's help was he was able to win. He tells Artie that he's always one step ahead of him. He tells Artie to stay away from his family. Artie tells him that it'll be a little hard since his daughter and his son are dating. For some reason, Eladio seems impactado with the news.

Regina and David relish the afterglow of their love making. They tell each other that they love each other and she tells him that she has never been more happier than now.

Santiago is lost now and doesn't know what Eladio and Artie are talking about. Eladio says that Artie thinks that he'll be able to get info on what he does through his daughter. Artie tells Eladio that he isn't like him. Eladio says that fortunately that's the case. (LOL) He and Santiago start to leave to meet up with Santiago's partner. Artie calls Santiago out on supporting Eladio in the Santa Fe construction. Artie then name calls Santiago by calling him corrupt. Santiago shouts back that sticks and stones may break his bones but words will never hurt him.  Eladio and Santiago leave. Artie then makes a phone call. He tells the person on the other line that they'll have to put Plan B into action which consists of sticking a kick me sign on Eladio's back. Artie won't allow Eladio construct in Santa Fe.

Santiago tells Eladio that he was left uncomfortable by what Artie said. Eladio says that he has nothing to worry about. His stores will be built. They shake on it. Santiago then leaves to meet up with his partner. Eladio now confronts Franco. He wants to know what Franco was doing meeting with Artie behind his back. Franco says that he already told him. He was there to tell Artie to give up on the project in Tabasco. But Eladio isn't buying it. He tells Franco that he better not be up to anything or else. Franco tells Eladio that he has shown for years that he can trust him. Eladio reminds Franco that without him he's nothing. Franco says that he knows. He's not like David. Eladio agrees and Franco smiles but that smile turns upside when Eladio continues his sentence and tells Franco that he's not like David because David is the son he had with the woman he loves. Ha!

Francisco shows up at Clara's doorstep wearing an ugly t-shirt. Clara isn't there but Consuelo is. Gisela sees the two together and leaves. Consuelo offers him a cup of joe.

Artie and Augie talk about the Santiago thing. Artie tells Augie that he won't let Eladio play with his Legos and construct in Santa Fe.

Gisela tells Clara that Consuelo is snatching her BF from her and to go and see for herself.

Eladio shows up at the hospital and sees that Julia isn't in her bed. He freaks out because he needs to know where the hell his wife his.

The canaries are back. Julia is with them. Eladio calls and yells at Gaby and Julia for leaving the hospital without telling him.

Francisco and Consuelo talk about soccer. He holds her hand. So of course that's when Clara walks in so she can see this. Clara is clearly upset with Francisco. Consuelo leaves. Francisco notices that Clara is upset and tells her not to think bad. If he came over it was to ask her out to see a soccer game. He tells her that.. yeah, Consuelo is pretty, but she's married, and is going to have a baby. And besides, she doesn't have Clara's smile and sense of humor. Clara is all smiles to hear this.

Erick looks for Clara's address. Daniela comes into the room. Daniela tells Erick that ever since he has all those problems he's not like before. They don't go out anymore. Now he's so dull. He promises her that when he fixes his problems he'll be like before.

Francisco and Clara have a blast at the soccer game. Cute montage of scenes.

Petra tries to help tighten Nina's top. Petra doesn't get why Nina goes through this torture. Nina tells her that beauty is a sacrifice. Nina says that she has to be more hot each day for her husband. Daniela shows up and Nina wants her to help Petra with the tightening because her dad has to see her like when he fell in love with her.

Eladio manhandles Gaby for not telling him that Julia was being discharged from the hospital and threatens to kick her out if she does something so stupid like that again. Franco just stands there and watches the woman he claims to love be manhandled. Eladio heads upstairs and Gaby calls Franco out for not defending her. He tells her that it's her own fault for not obeying Eladio. She realizes that she can't count on him to defend her.

Eladio scolds Julia for leaving the hospital without telling him. She says that she did it because she didn't want to argue with him and just wanted to come home to see her canaries. He asks her if she wanted to provoke him. She tells him that she wasn't in the mood to hear his shrieking. She says that it hurts her and that she can't stand hearing him denying his son. She tells him that she doesn't believe his promises to change because he knows that she's still with his Ratt mistress. He tells her that everything has a consequence and grabs her by the arm and takes her out to the balcony. He then opens the cage and releases the canaries despite her begging him not to do it since the canaries don't know how to fend for themselves out in the world. He drops the cage off the balcony and then tells her that the point that he wants to make with this is that she is like the canaries and couldn't be able to fend for herself if she left his side because she doesn't know how to do anything and couldn't survive.

See! I told you not to get too attached to the canaries! [snort]

This is wonderful, Mauricio, and so very funny. You absolutely nail these people and their childish behavior (Get in here before I count to five, Pinning a Kick Me sign on Eladio's back, playing with legos). And I hope you had a wonderful Christmas too! I love the gift you gave us – thanks!

Every time I hear a "forever" or a "never" or "always" in a telenovela, I shudder. Oy. Regina and David, stop tempting fate, please!

Thanks, Mauricio. You painted a great picture of this episode.

The poor canaries. I guess I'm holding onto hope that Eladio has a weebit of humanity. I was afraid he was going to squeeze the canary to death, but at least he let it fly away.

Hope Gaby wakes up now that her novio did nothing while she was roughed up by Eladio. So Gaby chose to leave her happily married mom and dad and stay in the torture chamber [thanks, Mauricio] with her aunt?

Maurico, great read as usual, thank you.

"Franco shows up at Eladio's study to do his butt kissing of the day"

"What he does know is that Artie didn't remain in Tabasco to negotiate"

Too bad Clara didn't catch Francisco checking out Connie's butt a little earlier. Ok, she's married and pregnant but how does that make Clara feel better?

Excellent point Eladio, you would think Julia had learned something in over 20 years. Her brain must be mush at this point.

Thank you so much Mauricio. By the time this TN is on, I've lost the TV to the boys. So really relying on the recappers...which I'm thinking is better than watching!

I just don't get Julia. Maybe it's the way she is being written, but she KNOWS she has a violent husband. She basically telegraphed to him to make a point with the canaries. Maybe now that Gaby is having her eye-opening moment, and Julia will learn David is gone, they BOTH will get out of that house. Tell the crappy old man he's on his own with the son-on-law he thinks is the gift that keeps on giving.

I will be honest and say the whole business aspect of the fight between these two lame-brain big shots leaves me bored and cold. Even just reading it all makes me think "And they waste air time with all this". I mean we get it, maybe we could do without the details.

And for cripes sake, give Augie a plot and more air time. THat's all he had again last night?

I am firmly convinced The Ratt needs to get out more. Maybe being holed up in that boring apartment, she's not fully aware that Erick is anything but handsome and caring and whatever. They both need to get hit by a truck...or both thrown to the curb and see how they enjoy scraping for a living. Erick still handsome there sweetie?

Yeah, Nina, this isn't 1890. Woman don't have to "suffer" to attract their man. I'm gobsmacked continually by her antiquated attitudes. Or are writers not updating the old dialog from former versions?

Gracias, Maruricio. Hope everyone had a good Christmas Day.

The one thing I'm getting from any of the details of their business talk is that they could both go broke trying to put each other out of business. The other is that Eladio's personality disorder is such that Julia is really the least of all this. She's only the excuse and he needs someone to blame for the fact that she doesn't love him. He refuses to blame himself for this and he is the only responsible party if there is one at all.

El corazon ne se manda.

Had Eladio crushed those poor little birds in his hands before her eyes that might have made her run. What he did instead was just as cruel, which was to tell her that she is defenseless and worthless. This was Humberto's long-term strategy during Julia's youth but he didn't go far enough. He also had vices that depleted the Vallardo family fortune, which gave her an out on this. But although Eladio doesn't gamble away money in Vegas and he is far more cruel. He has crushed her spirit and enjoys her suffering.

He did make a clumsy slip in front of Franco when he said that "David is the son I had with the woman I love." Franco is slipping up lately with a couple of bone-headed moves but he will remember this and wonder what it means.

More later.

Many thanks, Mauricio! Your recap was a great stocking filler! You didn't miss a beat and the witty asides provided many chuckles! I hope you had a wonderful Christmas :)

I've spent the past 3 days stuffing my face in between bouts of running after my toddler nephew and maybe that's what's getting me confused, but didn't Julia open the cage to free her canaries on episode 1? Eladio was a bit more forceful about it but the canaries are now free. It's not like he bashed their little heads against the balcony railing; he set them free, like Julia unsuccessfully attempted to do before.
Besides, when is this woman gonna get the heck out of that house? Didn't she make a whole speech about not wanting anything to do with Eladio and no longer wanting to be his pretend wife etc etc... or was the lure of securing David's GLA company shares more important? She sneaked out of the hospital undetected and could've arranged to go anywhere she wanted but she chose to go back to her mansion. The bottom line is Julia likes the comforts of an affluent life. She has used Eladio as her economic crutch for 25 years and will only leave him once she can get her hands on a replacement one, i.e. Randy Boy Arturo. She will never leave unless she snatches Arturo from his wife, except she doesn't know what Nina is capable of to conserve her goose with the golden eggs.
I agree that lately both Julia and Nina seem like such anachronisms in this story; they act like decorative objects who only open their mouths to whine or wallow in self-pity. This attitude is more in tune with the mores of the 1950s' society.

I tune in regularly to PyP because I'm greatly entertained by Eladio, Franco (especially in his interactions with his Padrino), Erick, Daniela and Petra. These are the only characters that get my full attention when they are on my screen; all the others act as mere plot devices for me to enjoy the antics of my favorite characters. Even Rev Auggie is getting tedious for me! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the eye candy, I really do, but I wish they'd give him a storyline. We only ever see him in office scenes, rolling his eyes every time Arturo is uttering something dumb (which is almost all the time). This makes me wonder if there aren't Oompa-Lumpas hidden in some secret basement and getting down to the nitty-gritty while all the suits at Grupo Montenegro are sitting on their behinds and twiddling their thumbs!

Enjoy your weekend, amigos! I'll try to swing by later if I can.
Hasta luego :)

There's definitely some lazy writing in this series with Nina and Julia being the anachronistic stereotypes they are. Nina fancies herself a Scarlett O'Hara thinking that a smaller waist is what it takes to keep Rhett Butler and his millions. Julia has become a prop rather than a person and is now in a horrible squeeze-play between a father and a husband who both hate her for being a person rather than a mannequin. Neither of them love her at all but can't admit this even to themselves.

Gisela will do what it takes to make Consuelo miserable, so she's not any better off there than in the Montenegro mansion. She should take a separate bedroom with an adjoining nursery and request that Arturo get a nanny to help her. Did everyone catch that Nina refuses to be a grandmother at her age?

Nandicta, thanks, you articulated my thoughts on Julia and Nina and I had already deleted a diatribe of my own, it not quite right.

Nandicta, great thoughts on Nina and Julia. I think you put the nail on the head of why even the two main females in this story are leaving me cold, maybe one we are supposed to not like, but Julia... 1950's indeed. The one aspect of TN's that made me sometimes twitch as I started watching years ago was often the writing that seemed to imply that no matter who or what the female lead was or did, she really was worthless/aimless without a man in her life. This story, except for Regina somewhat so far, seems to be taking that to the extreme with the parental units. Eladio and Artie fighting over Julia makes you want to give them clubs and fur outfits and let them club it out while the dinosaurs look on.

I hold out hope for the positive young characters that they move away from that attitude and THAT is the story we get eventually. Frankly, I would love Connie to become a single, successful mom and give everyone a "so there!!"

Thank you NovelaMaven.

Yes, when I saw Eladio taking Julia out to the balcony, I knew that something was about to happen to the poor canaries. Especially after Julia said that she wanted to get home to see her birds. I hope they'll be alright out in the world.

The constant bickering between Eladio and Artie (and in public) every time they see each other is so child like. They act like five year old's that have to get back at the other every time one does something to the other. At that rate, the war between them will never end, unless one of them dies. So I wonder what Plan B is?

Every time I hear a "forever" or a "never" or "always" in a telenovela, I shudder. Oy. Regina and David, stop tempting fate, please!

Me too. It's always a sign that something bad will happen.

Thank you Niece.

I was afraid for the canaries too. I'm glad that he didn't actually squeeze them. Releasing them doesn't seem so bad. At least now, they'll be far away from him.

Franco not being a man and defending her from Eladio is grounds for a break-up. She needs to dump him and hook up with Agustin.

Thank you tofie.

"Too bad Clara didn't catch Francisco checking out Connie's butt a little earlier. Ok, she's married and pregnant but how does that make Clara feel better?"

Hahaha! I saw that too (him checking her out from behind) and almost added to the recap, but wasn't sure if I had seen right.

Thank you Daisynjay.

Yes, Erick's not exactly what I would call handsome. He's also not young. As for passionate.. well I don't want to even think about that.

Thank you Urban.

"He did make a clumsy slip in front of Franco when he said that "David is the son I had with the woman I love." Franco is slipping up lately with a couple of bone-headed moves but he will remember this and wonder what it means."

Yes, he definitely did slip up. I hope does remember it and looks into what he meant.

Thank you Nandicta.

"but didn't Julia open the cage to free her canaries on episode 1?"

Yes, she did. I went back and checked it out. She opens the cage, but the canaries don't want to fly away, so she closes the cage again.

Dear Mauricio--
Thank you for the lovely present you gave us, indeed. You knew just what we wanted and chose those words specifically to make us smile (to cover up when we had to grit our teeth). Strike-thrus are just the glitter on the wrapping. Again, we thank you for thinking of us on this December 25 and hope all goes well for the rest of the year (and beyond).

Niecie--Gaby came to live in the torture palace to go to school (probably university, but we never see her study or go to classes). I don't think she paid too much attention to Eladio until recently (except to stay out of his way because she and Franco had been carrying on behind his back). Gaby and Julia became close (Julia needed a confidant) and subsequently learned what Julia had been going through emotionally. (Note: We've never actually seen Eladio BEAT Julia--just manhandle her, which is bad enough.) Now, Gaby stays for 1) her aunt's sake and 2) she's convinced Franco is the love of her life.

Speaking of Franco and Gaby--wasn't it interesting to note when Hummy saw them together in love-bird mode, he was 100% against the relationship? They've been living in the same house for what, a couple of weeks now, and he hadn't noticed?

I think Hummy knows Franco is Eladio's son, but that shouldn't have made that big a difference. Consanguinity is absent. Gaby and Franco are only related by marriages (Eladio to Julia and Julia to Gaby's mother and father). Can he be that much of an elitest to object for just that one reason? Hmmmm (and not Hummm).

Since we hadn't seen the canaries since the first or second episode, I knew right away something not good was going to happen when Julia started fawning over them. Yes, I did expect Eladio to kill them, but what he did was actually even more cruel to them and to Julia.

Sorry, I deleted part of my thought on Hummm being an elitist--it was in reference to Franco's origins. Maybe he doesn't know about Franco's relationship to Eladio and is elitist. Julia did try to point out how hypocritical he was vis a vis Eladio's origins and her marriage to him.

Thank you Mauricio---your recaps are always such a good way to start the weekend off with.

I hope Gaby now realizes that she cannot count on Franco to defend her against Eladio. An inheritance or Gaby? Sorry Gaby, you loose and I hope that you wake up to that soon.

Eladio tells her that she is just like the canaries who can't fend for themselves, can't do anything and couldn't survive on her/their own. Yes, that's a good way to bring on love don't you think. You are worthless without me.

LOL Daisynjay---let them club it out while the dinosaurs look on.

forever--never and always have me worried but I'm staying tuned because it's

Gaby should have called her parents and told them about Eladio man handling her. If Julia wants to give her life to Eladio, done, but Gaby is young, has parents that know better than to get sucked into the mess and should leave.

Are we even sure her parents are still alive? Or are the writers still making up their minds about that?

So if Gaby's parents, one or both, are still around, if one turns out to be Julia's sibling, there should be some wonderful explanation as to why she was stuck dealing with dear old dad when he blew through the money or she felt she couldn't go to them when her life went south and they could take her in with David.

If it's the person who married into the family and not particularly close to Julia or Humberto, at least I'll take that. Otherwise, there's some explaning to do on where the heck those people are. I'm hoping whatever comes out doesn't make scratch our heads even more with Julia. I'm beginning to wonder if she has a martyr complex. Her knee jerk reaction against Artie shoes someone not thinking on all cylinders ( or spoiled at one time?)

Thanks, Mauricio. I just finished watching. I deleted my recording of Yo No, so didn't see the last few minutes of this, but saw enough to make me wonder if Gaby really thinks room and board during college is worth all this-- being yelled at, controlled, and manhandled by her uncle (by marriage)? Awww, hell no! I would call mom and dad and have them send me some cash so I can get an apartment. Or get paying job (not the volunteer work at Julia's foundation) so I can afford my own place.

I think this episode it was made pretty clear that her parents are living when Julia asked Gabi if her parents ARE happy-- present tense. Yeah, just how did Julia's sister escape take care of daddy duty? And why can't she go live with her sister and brother-in-law wherever they are?

I'm going to hold out some hope for Julia, because she told Gabi that she's going to divorce Eladio, but she has to plan it well. That's why she's back in the house. Eladio is not the kind of man who would just let you walk away and file for divorce. He's the kind of man where you'd have to divorce him secretly, while also getting your passport, creating a false identify for yourself, embezzling some cash into a secret account, and disappear into the night-- and even then, pray to god he doesn't find you. Did you see how he freaked out just because she left the hospital without her permission? Jeesh!

Thank you Anita.

"Speaking of Franco and Gaby--wasn't it interesting to note when Hummy saw them together in love-bird mode, he was 100% against the relationship? They've been living in the same house for what, a couple of weeks now, and he hadn't noticed?"

I think since Julia landed in the hospital not too long after he moved in, and Gaby has spending a lot time at the hospital, he didn't get a chance to see her and Franco together until he saw them at the hospital.

When it comes to Hummy being against Gaby and Franco being together, I'm siding with Hummmy, but only because we know how much Franco is like his padrino.

Thank you gringo.

I hope Gaby wakes up too and dumps that boyfriend of hers.

Urban,

The way Julia talked about Gaby's parents it seemed as if they are still alive.

Thanks for another of your uniquely Mauricio recaps, Mauricio. Well done and very amusing.

Fun stuff:

For for such a harrowing frenetic start in this TN, FC has settled into this unsettling role quite comfortably. He's become a real treat to watch. It this episode his undisguised impatience and disgust with Franco... "Franco, Franco, Franco...",his toying with Humberto's oxygen tubing, and his menacing of Julia's birds were not so subtle displays of his total dominance and barely subdued malevolence.

Humberto's quietly gliding around in his electric scooter... who knew that you could skulk in a wheelchair?

Petra and Dani cinching up Nina's corset...

Francisco ogling Coni's butt...

Huge beautiful chocolate-dipped strawberries that went untouched... I suppose that David and Regina found something more tasty.

And of course, didn't Nina look stunning? Who cares if she has a bit of a mean streak. I'm hoping that Augie soon reveals that he has been secretly in love with her all these years.

AuntyAnn, thanks so much for your excellent tight and tidy Christmas Eve recap. The CCs were abysmal so it was a genuine lifesaver.

I hope everyone here had a wonderful Christmas.

Carlos

I continue to like Regina and David. They both know what they want, they're level-headed, they actually seem like each other, they haven't fallen victim to the stupid family drama yet. I hope the writers let them stay together for a while longer before another big break up.

Those electric wheelchairs can be pretty quiet. I'm sure the tires have enough air in them to made for a comfortable ride, which is key to that.

Has Augustin ever been married? If not I vote that he's been a workaholic.

I'm guessing that Amanda got out while the getting was still good and Julia felt too guilty to leave when things began going south.

Mauricio: Splendid.

"It's a beautiful morning and perfect for some dirty negotiations" and "Eladio smells a rat bastard when he sees one and he knows Hummy is only thinking about what is convenient for his crummy old himself" were among my favorites.

Just when I think no one can be worse than Erick, the horrible Humberto strikes again. As you noted "Over at The Patio, we all cross our fingers and hope this is the end of the old man, but before he does any real damage to the old man he walks off. Darn." Sigh.

I'm not as enthused about this as I was initially. There is really no one to root for. Regina and David's frolicking is nice, but just not terribly exciting. I like Julia but am so disheartened by her inability/unwillingness to leave Eladio's lair, my support is beginning to waiver. I like Auggie, but we haven't seen him do anything but listed to Artie's incessant whining about Julia and Eladio.

Harming innocent animals is a cardinal sin to me. Eladio has now secured his place in Hades.

"who knew that you could skulk in a wheelchair?" Bless you Carlos. You just made my night.

Diana

Thanks so much for your recap Mauricio! You brought a lot of laughs to this tn. I particularly enjoyed your comments about horrible Humberto; he can't die soon enough.

As others have noted, I am losing patience with Julia. I know she has endured a lifetime of abuse so perhaps it is natural that she doesn't know how to get out of her situation but it's painful to watch. And you would think if she could start a foundation, she could make plans to escape her dreadful home situation.

Nandicta, ITA that the writers need to give Auggie a plot NOW. The poor actor must be bored as well as all he does is get disgusted with Artie's foolishness.

Vivi, you are so right about Gaby. Nothing is worth staying in that abusive household even if it is free room and board. And I hope she also gets a clue about Franco and breaks up with him.

Diana I was relieved Eladio didn't kill the canaries though releasing them was cruel. Like others, the second they came on screen I knew they were doomed.

Karen, your "And you would think if she could start a foundation, she could make plans to escape her dreadful home situation" was astute and very true.

It appears she is intelligent, kind and resourceful. Unfortunately, at the present, she is unable and/or unwilling to use these attributes to help save herself.

Diana

Thank you Vivi.

I also continue to like David and Regina together. They are my favorite couple on the show so far. They seem to be the happiest when they are alone together in Queretaro. I wish they would pack their bags and move over there and forget about returning home.

Thank you Carlos,

Petra tightening Nina's corset was one of my favorite scenes from the episode.

I love chocolate dipped strawberries. I for sure wouldn't have left them untouched.

Thank you Diana,

Harming innocent animals is a cardinal sin to me. Eladio has now secured his place in Hades.

I agree.

Thank you Karen.

"And you would think if she could start a foundation, she could make plans to escape her dreadful home situation."

Good point.
