Pasión y Poder Episode #36 Friday, December 25th 2015 Nina turns over a new leaf.. or so it seems, David and Regina make love, and Eladio calls Artie a loser.
Labels: poder
This is wonderful, Mauricio, and so very funny. You absolutely nail these people and their childish behavior (Get in here before I count to five, Pinning a Kick Me sign on Eladio's back, playing with legos). And I hope you had a wonderful Christmas too! I love the gift you gave us – thanks!
Every time I hear a "forever" or a "never" or "always" in a telenovela, I shudder. Oy. Regina and David, stop tempting fate, please!
The poor canaries. I guess I'm holding onto hope that Eladio has a weebit of humanity. I was afraid he was going to squeeze the canary to death, but at least he let it fly away.
Hope Gaby wakes up now that her novio did nothing while she was roughed up by Eladio. So Gaby chose to leave her happily married mom and dad and stay in the torture chamber [thanks, Mauricio] with her aunt?
"Franco shows up at Eladio's study to do his butt kissing of the day"
"What he does know is that Artie didn't remain in Tabasco to negotiate"
Too bad Clara didn't catch Francisco checking out Connie's butt a little earlier. Ok, she's married and pregnant but how does that make Clara feel better?
Excellent point Eladio, you would think Julia had learned something in over 20 years. Her brain must be mush at this point.
I just don't get Julia. Maybe it's the way she is being written, but she KNOWS she has a violent husband. She basically telegraphed to him to make a point with the canaries. Maybe now that Gaby is having her eye-opening moment, and Julia will learn David is gone, they BOTH will get out of that house. Tell the crappy old man he's on his own with the son-on-law he thinks is the gift that keeps on giving.
I will be honest and say the whole business aspect of the fight between these two lame-brain big shots leaves me bored and cold. Even just reading it all makes me think "And they waste air time with all this". I mean we get it, maybe we could do without the details.
And for cripes sake, give Augie a plot and more air time. THat's all he had again last night?
I am firmly convinced The Ratt needs to get out more. Maybe being holed up in that boring apartment, she's not fully aware that Erick is anything but handsome and caring and whatever. They both need to get hit by a truck...or both thrown to the curb and see how they enjoy scraping for a living. Erick still handsome there sweetie?
Yeah, Nina, this isn't 1890. Woman don't have to "suffer" to attract their man. I'm gobsmacked continually by her antiquated attitudes. Or are writers not updating the old dialog from former versions?

The one thing I'm getting from any of the details of their business talk is that they could both go broke trying to put each other out of business. The other is that Eladio's personality disorder is such that Julia is really the least of all this. She's only the excuse and he needs someone to blame for the fact that she doesn't love him. He refuses to blame himself for this and he is the only responsible party if there is one at all.
El corazon ne se manda.
Had Eladio crushed those poor little birds in his hands before her eyes that might have made her run. What he did instead was just as cruel, which was to tell her that she is defenseless and worthless. This was Humberto's long-term strategy during Julia's youth but he didn't go far enough. He also had vices that depleted the Vallardo family fortune, which gave her an out on this. But although Eladio doesn't gamble away money in Vegas and he is far more cruel. He has crushed her spirit and enjoys her suffering.
He did make a clumsy slip in front of Franco when he said that "David is the son I had with the woman I love." Franco is slipping up lately with a couple of bone-headed moves but he will remember this and wonder what it means.
More later.
I've spent the past 3 days stuffing my face in between bouts of running after my toddler nephew and maybe that's what's getting me confused, but didn't Julia open the cage to free her canaries on episode 1? Eladio was a bit more forceful about it but the canaries are now free. It's not like he bashed their little heads against the balcony railing; he set them free, like Julia unsuccessfully attempted to do before.
Besides, when is this woman gonna get the heck out of that house? Didn't she make a whole speech about not wanting anything to do with Eladio and no longer wanting to be his pretend wife etc etc... or was the lure of securing David's GLA company shares more important? She sneaked out of the hospital undetected and could've arranged to go anywhere she wanted but she chose to go back to her mansion. The bottom line is Julia likes the comforts of an affluent life. She has used Eladio as her economic crutch for 25 years and will only leave him once she can get her hands on a replacement one, i.e. Randy Boy Arturo. She will never leave unless she snatches Arturo from his wife, except she doesn't know what Nina is capable of to conserve her goose with the golden eggs.
I agree that lately both Julia and Nina seem like such anachronisms in this story; they act like decorative objects who only open their mouths to whine or wallow in self-pity. This attitude is more in tune with the mores of the 1950s' society.
I tune in regularly to PyP because I'm greatly entertained by Eladio, Franco (especially in his interactions with his Padrino), Erick, Daniela and Petra. These are the only characters that get my full attention when they are on my screen; all the others act as mere plot devices for me to enjoy the antics of my favorite characters. Even Rev Auggie is getting tedious for me! Don't get me wrong, I appreciate the eye candy, I really do, but I wish they'd give him a storyline. We only ever see him in office scenes, rolling his eyes every time Arturo is uttering something dumb (which is almost all the time). This makes me wonder if there aren't Oompa-Lumpas hidden in some secret basement and getting down to the nitty-gritty while all the suits at Grupo Montenegro are sitting on their behinds and twiddling their thumbs!
Enjoy your weekend, amigos! I'll try to swing by later if I can.
Hasta luego :)
Gisela will do what it takes to make Consuelo miserable, so she's not any better off there than in the Montenegro mansion. She should take a separate bedroom with an adjoining nursery and request that Arturo get a nanny to help her. Did everyone catch that Nina refuses to be a grandmother at her age?
I hold out hope for the positive young characters that they move away from that attitude and THAT is the story we get eventually. Frankly, I would love Connie to become a single, successful mom and give everyone a "so there!!"

Yes, when I saw Eladio taking Julia out to the balcony, I knew that something was about to happen to the poor canaries. Especially after Julia said that she wanted to get home to see her birds. I hope they'll be alright out in the world.
The constant bickering between Eladio and Artie (and in public) every time they see each other is so child like. They act like five year old's that have to get back at the other every time one does something to the other. At that rate, the war between them will never end, unless one of them dies. So I wonder what Plan B is?
Every time I hear a "forever" or a "never" or "always" in a telenovela, I shudder. Oy. Regina and David, stop tempting fate, please!
Me too. It's always a sign that something bad will happen.
I was afraid for the canaries too. I'm glad that he didn't actually squeeze them. Releasing them doesn't seem so bad. At least now, they'll be far away from him.
Franco not being a man and defending her from Eladio is grounds for a break-up. She needs to dump him and hook up with Agustin.
"Too bad Clara didn't catch Francisco checking out Connie's butt a little earlier. Ok, she's married and pregnant but how does that make Clara feel better?"
Hahaha! I saw that too (him checking her out from behind) and almost added to the recap, but wasn't sure if I had seen right.
Thank you Daisynjay.
Yes, Erick's not exactly what I would call handsome. He's also not young. As for passionate.. well I don't want to even think about that.
Thank you Urban.
"He did make a clumsy slip in front of Franco when he said that "David is the son I had with the woman I love." Franco is slipping up lately with a couple of bone-headed moves but he will remember this and wonder what it means."
Yes, he definitely did slip up. I hope does remember it and looks into what he meant.
Thank you Nandicta.
"but didn't Julia open the cage to free her canaries on episode 1?"
Yes, she did. I went back and checked it out. She opens the cage, but the canaries don't want to fly away, so she closes the cage again.
Thank you for the lovely present you gave us, indeed. You knew just what we wanted and chose those words specifically to make us smile (to cover up when we had to grit our teeth). Strike-thrus are just the glitter on the wrapping. Again, we thank you for thinking of us on this December 25 and hope all goes well for the rest of the year (and beyond).
Niecie--Gaby came to live in the torture palace to go to school (probably university, but we never see her study or go to classes). I don't think she paid too much attention to Eladio until recently (except to stay out of his way because she and Franco had been carrying on behind his back). Gaby and Julia became close (Julia needed a confidant) and subsequently learned what Julia had been going through emotionally. (Note: We've never actually seen Eladio BEAT Julia--just manhandle her, which is bad enough.) Now, Gaby stays for 1) her aunt's sake and 2) she's convinced Franco is the love of her life.
Speaking of Franco and Gaby--wasn't it interesting to note when Hummy saw them together in love-bird mode, he was 100% against the relationship? They've been living in the same house for what, a couple of weeks now, and he hadn't noticed?
I think Hummy knows Franco is Eladio's son, but that shouldn't have made that big a difference. Consanguinity is absent. Gaby and Franco are only related by marriages (Eladio to Julia and Julia to Gaby's mother and father). Can he be that much of an elitest to object for just that one reason? Hmmmm (and not Hummm).
Since we hadn't seen the canaries since the first or second episode, I knew right away something not good was going to happen when Julia started fawning over them. Yes, I did expect Eladio to kill them, but what he did was actually even more cruel to them and to Julia.
I hope Gaby now realizes that she cannot count on Franco to defend her against Eladio. An inheritance or Gaby? Sorry Gaby, you loose and I hope that you wake up to that soon.
Eladio tells her that she is just like the canaries who can't fend for themselves, can't do anything and couldn't survive on her/their own. Yes, that's a good way to bring on love don't you think. You are worthless without me.
LOL Daisynjay---let them club it out while the dinosaurs look on.
forever--never and always have me worried but I'm staying tuned because it's
must see tv
the gringo
If it's the person who married into the family and not particularly close to Julia or Humberto, at least I'll take that. Otherwise, there's some explaning to do on where the heck those people are. I'm hoping whatever comes out doesn't make scratch our heads even more with Julia. I'm beginning to wonder if she has a martyr complex. Her knee jerk reaction against Artie shoes someone not thinking on all cylinders ( or spoiled at one time?)
Daisynjay
I think this episode it was made pretty clear that her parents are living when Julia asked Gabi if her parents ARE happy-- present tense. Yeah, just how did Julia's sister escape take care of daddy duty? And why can't she go live with her sister and brother-in-law wherever they are?
I'm going to hold out some hope for Julia, because she told Gabi that she's going to divorce Eladio, but she has to plan it well. That's why she's back in the house. Eladio is not the kind of man who would just let you walk away and file for divorce. He's the kind of man where you'd have to divorce him secretly, while also getting your passport, creating a false identify for yourself, embezzling some cash into a secret account, and disappear into the night-- and even then, pray to god he doesn't find you. Did you see how he freaked out just because she left the hospital without her permission? Jeesh!
"Speaking of Franco and Gaby--wasn't it interesting to note when Hummy saw them together in love-bird mode, he was 100% against the relationship? They've been living in the same house for what, a couple of weeks now, and he hadn't noticed?"
I think since Julia landed in the hospital not too long after he moved in, and Gaby has spending a lot time at the hospital, he didn't get a chance to see her and Franco together until he saw them at the hospital.
When it comes to Hummy being against Gaby and Franco being together, I'm siding with Hummmy, but only because we know how much Franco is like his padrino.
Thank you gringo.
I hope Gaby wakes up too and dumps that boyfriend of hers.
Urban,
The way Julia talked about Gaby's parents it seemed as if they are still alive.
Fun stuff:
For for such a harrowing frenetic start in this TN, FC has settled into this unsettling role quite comfortably. He's become a real treat to watch. It this episode his undisguised impatience and disgust with Franco... "Franco, Franco, Franco...",his toying with Humberto's oxygen tubing, and his menacing of Julia's birds were not so subtle displays of his total dominance and barely subdued malevolence.
Humberto's quietly gliding around in his electric scooter... who knew that you could skulk in a wheelchair?
Petra and Dani cinching up Nina's corset...
Francisco ogling Coni's butt...
Huge beautiful chocolate-dipped strawberries that went untouched... I suppose that David and Regina found something more tasty.
And of course, didn't Nina look stunning? Who cares if she has a bit of a mean streak. I'm hoping that Augie soon reveals that he has been secretly in love with her all these years.
AuntyAnn, thanks so much for your excellent tight and tidy Christmas Eve recap. The CCs were abysmal so it was a genuine lifesaver.
I hope everyone here had a wonderful Christmas.
Carlos
Has Augustin ever been married? If not I vote that he's been a workaholic.
I'm guessing that Amanda got out while the getting was still good and Julia felt too guilty to leave when things began going south.
"It's a beautiful morning and perfect for some dirty negotiations" and "Eladio smells a rat bastard when he sees one and he knows Hummy is only thinking about what is convenient for his crummy old himself" were among my favorites.
Just when I think no one can be worse than Erick, the horrible Humberto strikes again. As you noted "Over at The Patio, we all cross our fingers and hope this is the end of the old man, but before he does any real damage to the old man he walks off. Darn." Sigh.
I'm not as enthused about this as I was initially. There is really no one to root for. Regina and David's frolicking is nice, but just not terribly exciting. I like Julia but am so disheartened by her inability/unwillingness to leave Eladio's lair, my support is beginning to waiver. I like Auggie, but we haven't seen him do anything but listed to Artie's incessant whining about Julia and Eladio.
Harming innocent animals is a cardinal sin to me. Eladio has now secured his place in Hades.
"who knew that you could skulk in a wheelchair?" Bless you Carlos. You just made my night.
Diana
As others have noted, I am losing patience with Julia. I know she has endured a lifetime of abuse so perhaps it is natural that she doesn't know how to get out of her situation but it's painful to watch. And you would think if she could start a foundation, she could make plans to escape her dreadful home situation.
Nandicta, ITA that the writers need to give Auggie a plot NOW. The poor actor must be bored as well as all he does is get disgusted with Artie's foolishness.
Vivi, you are so right about Gaby. Nothing is worth staying in that abusive household even if it is free room and board. And I hope she also gets a clue about Franco and breaks up with him.
Diana I was relieved Eladio didn't kill the canaries though releasing them was cruel. Like others, the second they came on screen I knew they were doomed.
It appears she is intelligent, kind and resourceful. Unfortunately, at the present, she is unable and/or unwilling to use these attributes to help save herself.
Diana
I also continue to like David and Regina together. They are my favorite couple on the show so far. They seem to be the happiest when they are alone together in Queretaro. I wish they would pack their bags and move over there and forget about returning home.
Thank you Carlos,
Petra tightening Nina's corset was one of my favorite scenes from the episode.
I love chocolate dipped strawberries. I for sure wouldn't have left them untouched.
Thank you Diana,
Harming innocent animals is a cardinal sin to me. Eladio has now secured his place in Hades.
I agree.
Thank you Karen.
"And you would think if she could start a foundation, she could make plans to escape her dreadful home situation."
Good point.
