Blog mom is considering deleting Caray, Caray entirely. Thoughts welcome.
Behind the scenes there has a been a lot of trouble over the past year or two. Against my instincts I let this project get too big. We used to just blog the three shows on Univision prime time. Now our net is cast across all of Telenovela Land.
We have had almost 18,000,000 visits to our site. Perhaps this is what has made us a target of ugly behavior. We have lost a lot of recappers due to nasty commenters. We have had to delete 1,000s of spam comments from witch doctors and spell casters and plumbing supply houses. We have had to scour the comments for spoilers and malicious mayhem.
Over the last year or more Diva del desierto (5 foot Latina) and her computer whiz husband have made a number of very complicated improvements under the hood. These improvements have answered some of your multiple complaints but the Diva has had it. She wants to throw in the towel. I cannot take on the work she's been doing.
So that's why I'm thinking about folding up the tent (to switch metaphors). People who complain and attack each other and post spoilers etc. have finally worn us down.
Most things online are eventually ruined by spam and porno. One could say about the whole internet: "This is why I can't have nice things."
Have you noticed that everybody who works on this site does it for free?
Another possibility would be to cut back to just three shows and dump the rest of this. I think I could keep my eye on three shows.
I am taking suggestions and comments below.
Labels: announcements, hotel, la-vecina, lichita, mivac, no-creo, poder, qnc, telemundo
I read your comments with tremendous sadness.
On a personal note, I cannot say how much I appreciate all of the work of the dedicated, hard working recappers.
I have been with you since 2008 and hardly a day has gone by without my visiting CarayCaray. The summaries have been informative, intriguing, witty and just plain wonderful.
Without Caray, I would be lost as my Spanish comprehension skills are still quite low. Without reading the recaps, explaining exactly what transpired, I would be lost and fear I would have to abandon watching at all.
I consider many of the recappers and commenters as friends. Although we have never met, we have become a community of sharing, empathy, sympathy and caring. I have forged close bonds here on Caray and to lose these friendships would be unthinkable. And unbearable.
Kat, your dedication has been treasured and appreciated. I can't imagine why you would ever receive complaints but please know that for almost all of us, it is heartfelt gratitude we feel for you.
I know that if Caray disappears, part of my heart and life would go with it. Truly.
Diana
As with all lovely things on the internet, there seem to be those trolls and people who only want to ruin or interfere in something because it gives them some perverted joy and sense of importance to be negative. It breaks my heart that a spot where so many find enjoyment, community, friendship and even education would have to succumb to losing a site once again because of that behavior, but it's understood. For those who have to deal with the background noise and try to fix the issues, it is a burden they shouldn't have to bear and never really signed up for.
My wish is at least we would simply go back to where this all started. Stick with the main prime time Univision shows. See if that works in cutting back the issues and naysayers. If not, with a lot of tears, I would understand the need to call it a day on this lovely community. (I'm tearing just thinking about it.)

If the site must fold, perhaps if we were all on Twitter, we could discuss & watch in real time?
Or maybe a closed Facebook group?
Jane, I am not as much of an old timer as others, but this page and this community quickly became part of my daily routine. The reason is the fun, lively, intelligent, and RESPECTFUL community here. Like others, I consider many here to be true friends, not just virtual friends.
I can't dedicate more time than I already do to the site, but as a recapper I promise to continue to be vigilant in rooting out or pointing out any abusers, and helping to keep things organized as best I can.
But if this has indeed become too much, then I understand, and will always fondly remember this (unusually) friendly little corner (or should I say, Patio?) of the internet.
I discovered this blog when I started watching CI. I watched it at the laundromat on a Tuesday. It was pretty easy to follow bec it was near the beginning. I didn't realize it came on every night so it wasn't until the following Tuesday, when I couldn't find anything on tv, that I thought I would check in. At that point I realized I had missed some story and found out it was on every night. I didn't even think to look for an english translation until I missed something in the story and started to google the show to see if I could figure out what I missed. Finding this site was a gold mine.
Anything that can be done to save the blog would be welcome.
I've only been around since 2010 but this is the first site I visit when I log on in the morning. I don't have people in my face to face life to discuss novelas with so this blog has been a resource for me, not to mention a place to hone my writing skills.
I'm also not a fan of Twitter, which limits one to 140 characters per post. Nor of FaceBook, which I'm only on as a necessary evil.
What would it take to maintain the site? A forum I'm on is set up to eliminate profanity, but it has moderators to prevent divisive topics from being posted.
I have never understood what about the anonymity of the internet turns some people into cretinous narcissistic babies.
I would never complain about anything on the site because I feel so indebted to everyone who makes this fantasy village come alive.
We treat the novela characters as real people and dissect their roles endlessly. For many of us, the comments make our day. I read them as fast as they come in and comment just as quickly. I only don't comment when I'm behind. .
I would even be a paid subscriber if such a thing could be set up and made functional. I would think alot of our viewers don't understand Spanish as they would like to, so the site to them is invaluable.
Caray is well-know, world-wide blog with 10s of thousands of followers as you say; and has a well-earned reputation deserving of the hard work the recappers put in everyday.
Years ago, I started with "Alborada" and just can't imagine Caray not being here for others or me.
If you and the others don't wish to undertake such a large task as we have now, then, YES, IMO, the idea to knock off Telemundo, Galavision, and just leave the 4 big primetime Univision shows: 7-8, 8-9,9-10, and 10-11 pm. I think that would be a reasonable alternative.
I don't see the any nasty comments, but can't imagine anyone having such nerve.
FYI I mentioned once during LQLVMR that I had Bipolar I Disorder and PTSD because a character on the show did and commenters were asking if her actions were in line with a Bipolar person. Only one jerk made a nasty comment, and I just let it roll of my shoulders. For recappers, I imagine, it might be harder to ignore such trash after all their time spent recapping such long, episodes
Think of all the good you are contributing to mankind.
We learn about the unique customs of others, while improving our own abilities in Spanish.
Please find a way to on with the "show".
There is also some thought about narcissism itself being on the increase which is a bad thing for the present and future.
The fact that some jerks were plagiarizing this site attests to its quality. I hope we can discover a solution.
Is it possible to use a delayed posting feature with each recapper responsible for moderating the comments to his or her own recap? The decision to recap would imply the willingness to act as an active moderator. I realize that not everyone could do this, but it might work if we were working on a smaller scale. (I don't know if this is completely unrealistic. I'm not exactly sophisticated about this stuff.)
But some of the dearest "virtual" friends I have, have been found and developed on this site. I love communicating with these dear people both through the CarayCaray line and through email.
That being said, I think the coverage has grown too big for any one person to monitor and for recappers to cover. I would totally support cutting back to the original format of the 7, 8 and 9 pm shows. Punto.
Occasionally I drop out of supportive commenting because of issues in my family that just drain the heart and energy out of me. But I will always love CarayCaray and the people on it. And would be very sad to see it go.
This group of people have become my family. I don't want to lose my family.
I would vote for reduction rather than complete shut down. Jane, would that mean the four prime time Uni shows or would you chose three of the four?
Nanette
Best Regards,
Liliana
I love this blog. I know that to many that might seem silly but I really, truly love this blog. I had to bow out of recapping because of serious work issues and because of my sisters medical problems but I still read the recaps.
This blog was a life saver for me. I remember being so depressed that getting out of bed was just about all I could do, but then I found you guys and I started to blog and eventually started to feel like myself again.
Please don't close it down. I volunteer to help Kat delete comments or do whatever else is needed to keep this blog going.
I would be fine returning to the original three novela hours. Anything to keep the Patio open.
I could figure out most of what was happening but not everything which sometimes included key points. I don't know anyone that watches novelas and so I quickly became desperate for answers that I had about the episodes that I had watched. I took to the streets asking anyone who looked to be of Latin descent if they watch novelas. When I got a yes, I would ask them about the previous nights show. This went on for a while but I have to admit that it was very hit and miss result wise.
I then found Caray Caray and it was like manna from heaven.
I have enjoyed the Caray community immensely and really do appreciate the time and effort that the recappers put in. I literally spend hours on this site as it has become a part of me. It is with great sadness that read your post today Jane. It would be just terrible not only for myself but also for many others to see Caray Caray fold. I don't know why people would want to ruin this noble effort but then again why do hackers try to ruin everything that they can? Evil abounds, it's sad but true. A fact of life.
I'm sure that there good novelas on the rival networks, Telemundo etc. but my wish, hope and prayer would be to cut back, narrow it down and just stay with the Univision Novelas. If only three could be handled I myself would eliminate the late
10-11PM novela as many people have to go to work the next day and getting that extra hour of sleep would be welcomed by many.
These are my comments Jane---Please don't shut us out, we've become family.
the gringo
1. Set comments to close after a week. No approval queue, just you can't post there. I hate the idea of blocking conversation, but realistically, the way novelas move, if you can't catch up in a week, you're not likely to be ABLE to catch up,and in the meanwhile, those old open posts are a spam goldmine. There's always the Que nos Cuenta thread for people to talk about older novelas if they want.
2. Put the recappers in charge of monitoring their own comments. I wouldn't say they all have to monitor the entire show, just Wednesday's recapper keeps an eye on the Wednesday threads, Monday on Monday's. This is a HUGE site, and will continue to be huge even with a slimdown. There's no reason Kat and Blog Mom have to manage it alone.
However, I can certainly understand that the sheer size of the blog (just think of the episode indexes alone) means an awful lot of work.
Could there possibly be the alternative to close Caray to additional recaps and comments (leaving it online as a reference/archive), and spin off a Caray II blog strictly for three Univision TNs at a time? It might take a while for the bots to catch up, at least.
I wish to echo the positive sentiments of everyone who has commented so far. It would be a world-wide loss to close the site. Just take a look at Feedjit Live. Thank you for the privilege of participating on CarayCaray since 2009 and Sortilegio, first telenovela I watched with the help of CarayCaray.
I have not noticed much abuse in CarayCaray, but that is perhaps thanks to the due-diligence of Jane and Diva.
I can't think of my post-career life without it. I, too click on my CarayCaray link as soon as I scroll through my e-mails every day, including weekends. I spend QUALITY and a QUANTITY of time with this wonderful community. We share laughter, thinking, creative writing, Spanish comprehension and instruction. The bonus is that we have the opportunity to discuss a story and its characters' motives that we are all watching together, just as a book club would.
The idea of a monitor for each broadcast tn that is being recapped is a good one. The poster for that evening's recap generally does that anyway.
Could this work--
Registration before entering the site. One opera forum I belong to asks us to do that. We choose a user name and password. It is not exclusive, but at least one person can monitor abuse and block an abuser from even logging on. We log on each time we wish to visit the site. The names of everyone registered is listed and accessible to each other (and e-mail capability provided if you want to contact people directly, but not visibly). I have noticed that a number of these colleagues have gravitated to Face Book, but I rarely follow them there.
I joined a while back and took some time off from tns until last Nov. I am saddened to hear about the rotten apples and their harassment of good people. Though I was away, I missed this group terribly and would hate to see it go. Are there small task that can be done to assist Kat? I hope we can find a solution that keeps us open.
I think a lot of the issue started when the recapping team on Sombra asked that our hard work be acknowledged, the negative reactions we got were impressive. The same people that balked at having to thank their recappers are now all over themselves saying how much they appreciate this blog. Umm, no. No, you don't. The proof is in the pudding. You can't say that you appreciate this blog when you threw hissy fits when asked to thank the people whose hard work made it possible for you to understand the show.
This blog is the first thing I view in the morning. I have had many, many years of pleasure and cyber friendships from this wonderful creation of yours. I cannot adequately express my gratitude to you for this amazing world you’ve created. And I also give my heartfelt thanks to Kat for her years of working behind the scenes.
I expect that, since Univisión novelas have a wider audience, those novelas might be where the nasty comments have arisen. I can think of only one instance of something being deleted on the Telemundo area of the site. I’m sad to think that, should the blog survive, we little guys are going to be axed.
Even if the place where I recap disappears, I’m hopeful that the larger audience on the Univisión novela areas will still have a place to enjoy this wonderful site.
I have tears in my eyes. I haven't commented much lately due to life challenges, but I READ this site EVERY SINGLE day. Not so much to understand the Spanish, but to see how others feel and think about these stories. Like others that have commented, I really don't have anyone to discuss these TNs except you wonderful "patio peeps". We don't really know each other but we are friends.
I was always impressed that this site is so free of negativity - not realizing that is the additional hard work of the recappers and Jane and Diva that keep it that way. We can't let the bastards win.
I echo the others in asking to keep at least the three Uni TNs alive.
I started learning Spanish about ten years ago. I don't have telenovela-watching friends with whom I can discuss the episodes and clarify the things I don't understand. CarayCaray has made it possible for me to watch telenovelas even though my Spanish is inadequate, and it has given me a wonderful community with whom to discuss them.
If you feel you might be able to continue CarayCaray if you cut back, I'd like to echo SpanProf's suggestion that you limit CarayCaray's coverage to the main Univision novelas and the Telemundo page. Though I started by watching Univision, I became very impressed by the novelas on Telemundo, and that's what I've been watching for several years. Both Univision and Telemundo have valuable offerings. I very strongly hope that you'll keep the Telemundo coverage. Doing so would add very little to your workload but adds enormously to the pleasure of many of us who love CarayCaray.
When we signed up, there was a one day delay which I think they actually checked the email and person was valid, etc. For anyone who only wanted to read the comments, they had view only, so it didn't deter people who only wanted to see reviews, recaps and comments.
Possible to do something like that to alleviate the problem people? (I'm still blowing into my kleenex...:( )
Daisynjay
I had no idea haters have gotten so hard to manage. I'm so sorry, especially since I've been mostly away from the site recently (my 3 month-old and going back to work are more than I can handle right now. I wish I could have done more to keep the site clean.
Caray Caray has been almost a life saver for me in a time when I was battling near depression (though I didn't know it at the time ). As a 20+ years telenovela watcher I'm not even sure I would keep watching without this site.
Can't we make the site private, subscription based or something else that could keep the attackers away? I realize this would imply more work for you, Jane, on the short run, but there has to be a way to keep Caray Caray alive.
Sorry if I'm just babbling, as I'm rather sleep deprived and very stressed out,I just hope there is a way for this wonderful community to live on.
Daisynjay
I'm just talking off of my head as I don't know enough about these issues to sound intelligent. I'm just feeling a little desperate...
Susanlynn, you are a doll! If you want I can provide you my e-mail and then I can teach you all sorts of bad words!
Pete
I would certainly hate to see Caray shut down. I "tune in" several times, every day. However, I cannot begin to imagine the amount of time and work it takes you to keep this community up and running, not to mention dealing with the trolls and negative comments.
Rain has posted some good suggestions, especially #1.
Another idea is to use a forum format but there is probably expense involved with the software. I belong to a few forums for various interests, and the format seems to work well. Often a person is not allowed to post on the day they "join" which can stop a lot of spam.
Alas, even Telenovela-World has (or had, if their server never gets up and running again) its share of spam problems. Nobody is immune to it. As was stated earlier, a few people ruin a good thing for the majority.
Our local TV and newspaper websites were overrun with racist & deflammatory comments. It could be a story about a flower in the park and trolls would flood the comments with racist/sexist comments.
The TV stations had to cut out comments altogether.
The newspaper went to a Facebook commenting system. Overnight the racist comments went "poof" when they had to use their real names.
Perhaps such a commenting system could be used here. Not necessarily through Facebook but a similar commenting system where you have to use your real name, or a commenting system where posts would await moderation before becoming visible?
I have very little experience with blogs so if my recommendations sound simplistic or not doable it is because I am basically ignorant on the topic.
Covering only three Univisión shows would certainly help with policing the blog.
I also think having a blog that the general public can view but cannot comment on would help. I agree with previous posters re. registration. One could have an email address approval system in order to comment that runs at anytime or for further control just close down registration and only those registered by a certain date each year with their email addresses (Or whatever time period one would like) would be able to comment. It would certainly make it easy to block those who would like to register and become nasty.
Ideally, a blog should be universal in viewing and participation but given the current climate, that might not be achievable anymore.
I have told so many people about his blog being such a wonderful learning community. My friends frankly have been shocked that it had not been ruined by the trolls yet.
For me, I have so enjoyed watching these marvelous shows with the company on the patio commenting and now recapping. This is truly a unique and special place.
I hope that you can find a solution that works for you. If not, I can understand.
The suggestion for shutting down comments after a short window is also a good one. If there is an automatic way to do this it would help cut back on the spam. Registration will also help.
It would be criminal to lose this resource and community.
be horror stories though. I never stopped lurking from time to time and am very appreciative for this site. If I may say that one of the recappers that is so great at clarifying or correcting recappers in such a respectful and simple way is Vivi. UA is eloquent, and others like Mauricio, Cynderella and others that forgive me for not remembering everyone are such a hoot that brings pure joy. Respectfully, imho, perhaps it is good idea to have recappers monitor their own. That way if someone does not care for a recapper, they can skip that recap or recapper can block who they choose to participate. I hope the show does go on, and is part of a narcisstic scheme to garner more personal praise and begged to stay. Blog mom, you deserve all recognition because youcreated it. Do not be manipulated, for your caray fan base. Surely this can survive if one recapper has had it.
I found Caray when I came upon the tail end of Fuego en La Sangre. I didn't know much Spanish back then, but I enjoyed the show anyway (great chemisty among the cast). But then one day I noticed Sofia was riding in an SUV, and I couldn't figure that out because I'd thought Sofia and Juan's love story was a flashback to the 19th century based on her clothes. I searched on the net to find out what was up and found Caray. I was a lurker for a long time because I didn't feel I knew enough to comment, but finally plunged in because Caray was so welcoming and fun.
Lydia
I'm for recapping only the three daily Univision prime-time novelas....if that is still even a possibility given all you've described.
My Spanish is "barely there" so I've never been able to help recap. Truly wish I could!
But I love the novelas and love this site even more, and would be so sad to see it go. Tragic, actually.
But that being said, what a true gift you have given us for so long and whatever you decide, I will be forever grateful.
I haven't seen any rude commenters for a long time or porn or spam, but probably due to the diligence of those behind the scenes. I would miss the site so much. I check it usually before my mail in the morning.
I think we forget how much work goes into the blog & I can understand why you are fed up.
¡No vayas, por favor!!
I really appreciate that site and I really appreciate the recappers and commenters alike. you guys are great I don't speak a word of Spanish either and I think I'd be lost without the recaps. You guys are terrific to go to all this trouble for total strangers. You are appreciated please know that.
This is so sad to contemplate. This is the one site on the Internet where I feel completely comfortable and safe. I've developed so many friendships during my participation here over the years. I simply can't comprehend what pleasure anyone would derive by harassing or vexing this congenial group of devotees and friends.
Somehow I seem to have avoided the negativity and malice that you describe. I've seen occasional ugly and offensive comments but they seem to magically disappear in short order. When I've recapped from time to time someone would post (usually anonymously) a rather harsh or negative response but I generally welcomed any attention (a narcissistic trait?). The last time I recapped I did delete one comment which I deemed particularly offensive and disgusting and before that I deleted a few of the witch doctor endorsements (eliminating competition?). Until now I haven't recognized the magnitude of the problems.
I obviously must be wrong in thinking that the ability of the recappers to monitor the comments for their individual posts and delete (sort of like puppy lake, Eli) those that are inappropriate.
If we lose this site I will mourn.
Carlos
I know this was already suggested but perhaps an actual forum? Proboards will let you have one for free. https://proboards.com/ Zeta is another hosting site http://www.zetaboards.com/?r=1180302
The beauty is that you can have several different categories set up. So you could set each category by tv network, then inside each category, a subcategory for each novela. After the discussion for each recap is closed the thread is locked.
You can set it so that everyone must join and be approved. Spammers and trouble makers could be blocked and since you would have access to ip's you can block if they try to rejoin. It's not completely foolproof but would definitely cut down on the amount you would have to deal with. I have hosted a forum in the past and found this to be a very enjoyable and easy way to host a community.
If you have moderators who have the ability to work the forum for you, scouring for trouble and having some autonomy to put posters on a temp ban for trolling. If the problem persists then it is permanent banning.
I'm not one who cares for facebook and I don't know that moving it to that sort of platform would even cut down on that sort of behavior.
Whatever you decide, I understand even if I would be very sad.
I thank you and all the recappers for your time, commitment and hard work.
I would seriously be willing to moderate and scour out pesty troublemakers.

I don't even know how to use Twitter, and don't care to;
I hate Facebook, to much upkeep;
I am not a fan of WordPress because, 1.) Do they have playlists even and 2.) you can't be assured that a recapper won't take their promise/commitment seriously and duck out after uploading a dozen shows;
Definitely don't get me started on Telenovela World. The threads are impossible to follow. It's all incoherent to me.
Will a sign up and password-type thing work. Wouldn't you get their ip address that way?
I thank you Jane and want to give a special shout out to Kat and have no idea how one person can be in so many places seemingly at the same time but I also want to apologize. I've selfishly accepted from all you way more than I could ever give back.
I have to plead ignorance as well as to the technical issues involved in managing a community like this. A registration sounds good but like Susanlynn I am squeamish about sharing my email, am NOT on facebook and not interested in being. I'm probably all over the grid and don't realize it. Anyway. I'm sad but if Caray has to be pulled back or even shut down, all good things must come to an end.
When will we know the verdict, Jane?
Dear Blog Mom,
I can't express how grateful I am to you, to the teams of dedicated recappers past and present and to all the beautiful Patio peeps for making Caray Caray what it is. You have created a close-knit and engaging community where we can dissect our telenovelas, analyze plot devices, examine character motivations, relive our favorite scenes, share in the emotional connection and snigger at the excessiveness... Whether a TN is good or bad doesn't matter because the time we get to spend on Caray Caray is consistently good!
I discovered this site just over a year ago and it brightened many a dreary day for me. I've grown to recognize and appreciate the style and wit of many of the contributors to this groovy corner of cyberspace, so much so that I feel like I know them and I'll be very sad to be deprived of their company. I have nobody in my life with whom I can share my love of TNs, the Spanish language and the cultures of Mexico and other Latin American countries, so it'll be a great shame to lose my daily Caray Caray fix.
Only you know the extent of the challenges you're facing with the upkeep of the blog but in the same vein, only you know how much time and dedication you put into Caray Caray over these past years. This is your baby, you've poured an endless amount of love and hard labor into making it grow and flourish, please don't throw in the towel! There are many options you can consider to keep this space alive. I'm no tech wiz but many good suggestions have been made, like limiting the number of TNs covered, closing the comments after a week (I notice comments die down after 48 hours anyway) and having each recapper monitor the comments on their thread.
If TNs taught us anything, it's that we can't let the baddies win! Soldier on!
Much love and appreciation to the entire Caray Caray family :)
It saddens me to hear that Caray Caray might no longer be. I only started reading a few years ago, and started recapping a few months ago, but I truly love this sight. I have been watching TN's for 20+ years and understand Spanish, so I only read the recaps and comments to get everyone's opinion. I can only discuss with my mom, but I don't always have time to call her everyday. Cutting down your workload is totally understandable, I just hope that the site is not totally shut down.
To all the recappers, THANK YOU, and to all the commenters, GRACIAS!
Hasta Pronto!
I am willing to register to use this site and I don't register for anything else, but this site and being able to share here and discuss telenovelas with the folks here means a lot to me, even though my postings are sporadic.
I can honestly say I love CarayCaray and would be very sad to have it go
(also my family would be sad to have CarayCaray gone, even though they don't use it. The fact that I do means I don't chew their ears off telling them all about whatever tn I'm watching when they really aren't interested)
Not sure what to suggest by way of solution. I acknowledge my debt to all who have given over these years. CarayCaray has been a little neighborhood where I felt I belonged, where I could learn new things from friends I've never met. I'm afraid I'll lose interest in watching novelas if there is no patio to share it with.
Of all the suggestions I've read above, the following stick out:

SpanProf said "I would not object to registering and having a password."
novelera & Juanita both remarked about something very close to my heart: if CarayCaray continues in whatever form(at), please don't neglect the Telemundo offerings. We don't take up a lot of space compared with Univision, because we all share the same single page. Currently Juanita and I are hosting the page, swapping alternate weeks. We monitor for bad behavior, but thusfar we haven't had to do much on our watch.
Julie mentioned leaving it online as a reference/archive. (at the very least!; I still go back and read melinama's recaps from Alborada).
I'm shocked to think that some tomorrow morning, I won't have a place to go and check out what happened the night before.
I agree that each recapper should be in charge of monitoring the comments for their recap post and deleting the ones that are offensive. Also, registering to use the blog sounds like a good option as well. I'm willing to try anything to keep the blog going.
I would miss this community SO very much.
I haven't seen any of the garbage that you all are talking about. I was lucky to get nothing but support when trying to recap Quiero Amarte. I hope that if one of those ideas above works out, that a page could still be saved for Telemundo. There are some good shows coming up on that station.
It's a shame that some people don't see the quality of a website like this, or can't tell the difference between appropriate disagreements that make this fun and the blog equivalent of shoving someone down the stairs. Best to you in making a tough decision.
Kelly
I only happened on this blog in 2012, and I've only actually commented on one show. But because of your blog I have been following many Spanish shows because I so much enjoy the recaps and comments. It is the wit, intelligence and insite of the people on this blog that keep me coming back for more, even when it's something that I'm not watching.
I can understand why you want to
discontinue this blog if a few people's nastiness have gotten to be nearly overwhelming. I, of course, fervently hope that you can continue, but whatever your decision, I would just like to thank you, the recappers, and the commenters for improving my Spanish and my life.

1) I'll be closing down everything but the 4 Univision shows. If you are blogging something else and want to continue at Caray, contact me about switching to one of the Univision shows which is short of bloggers.
2) I'm going to try and get Diva del desierto to explain to me how she set up the index pages for past posts so we will still have access to them. She tells me the system I was using before was sub-par.
3) Going forward every blogger is responsible for deleting spam posts, spoilers, and trolls on his/her own posts. It will be a briefer period because I'll be turning on comment moderation after five days and after that, closing each post to comments the first time a piece of spam shows up on that post.
4) Each team leader will be responsible for letting me know when the show is ending and what is replacing it so I can get the sinopsis for the next show up in time.
Oh, and if spam/trolls/spoilers continue to be bad, I will turn on a requirement that you register before commenting. We'll see how it goes.
I'm sorry to have to do this but because Diva is bowing out, I have to get this down to a size which I can manage on my own. Thanks.
It's because there are only about 15 or so regular commenters compared to the 30 or more for each Univision novela. We COULD theoretically start our own blog, but I think a lot of us would rather stay on Caray where our friends are, and it would be rather sad and abandoned compared to the regular site. There aren't nearly as many people who get Telemundo and would be willing to recap. Posts for the entire week over there struggle to hit 100 comments, where a recap for one episode on Univision can hit that easily.
We police ourselves, and have done for quite a while. It wouldn't bother you at all. Please consider letting us stay?
I am so sorry this labor of love has become so hard to manage and appears to be overtaken by the lowest of the low on the internet.
An enormous thank you is not nearly enough for all the recappers and Jane and Diva, who put in so much work blood sweat and tears to make this the best and safe place. I hope it continues because it is very meaningful to a lot of people.
I have been a lurker for a long time, participated some, but for elder care issues I have only been reading.
The change of events here is devastating. I agree with everyone, this blog has become a staple in learning Spanish, creating networks and connections. It would be so sad if it went dark.
I would pay for a subscription. It is an important connection.
Alas, although I can no longer read the late, great Madeline's comments about her telenovio "Big Ed", I will continue, faithfully to support this wonderful blog, even if it is just a comment or two.
We have found support and humor here.
Please let it continue
Yola
I would be rather gutted if you shut down but completely understand. However reading all of the comments, I see you are looking at scaling back, which seems like a good option. I think registering to comment will help too.
Thank you again to everyone for all of your hard work and dedication. You've all made a huge impact on my life in such a short amount of time!

I hope you will reconsider your decision about Telemundo. Including the Telemundo page will very likely not add to your workload. As I understand it, little or none of the nastiness you've had to confront has involved the Telemundo page. And if some problem arises, LXV and I, as the folks currently in charge of the page, are prepared to deal with it. As you know, all the Telemundo novelas are discussed on a single page--that's just one page per week, and a page you don't have to deal with. Keeping it in CarayCaray would make a number of people very happy, and with no extra work on your part. Please?

I would appreciate it if you could manage to keep something up for all of us who have become attached to this service and labor of love.
I watched Univision telenovelas for many years and followed the blogs. Now, I am very fond of Telemundo. As Junanita stated above, "Keeping it in Caray would make a number of people very happy."
Thank you for this consideration.
I didn't post my pleadings before you announced your decision, so I'm happy that you will continue Caray, Caray in a reduced format. It's been a daily bright spot for me and I would miss it so much.
I'm sorry that troll attacks have led us to this pass. Even though I tend to float over the patio rather than taking a solid seat, I love hearing all the comments from patio peeps.
Hugs and best wishes for continuing civil conversation among Carayites.
but I would like to thank you Jane for creating this wonderful blog, I love this place, and all of the amazing people you have brought here.
but I can imagine, at times, it can be appear to be a very thankless endeavor,
I so respect any decision you make.
but I was thinking, if it is your intention to be open to the public, and the Telemundo page is essentially trouble free, why close that door that would bring others (properly introduced) to your main page.
with two people monitoring the Telemundo page, NovelaMaven and Jean. wow, they were good at stomping out fires, and now we have two new shining stars.
oh well,
thank you so very much Jane!
you must be an amazing person.
Jane, I'm glad that you decided to keep it but cut back on the shows to the 4 primetime slots, I've been at the 10:00pm time for several TNs now and would mourn the loss of them if you only did 3 slots.
As a recapper, I've been very lucky in the low amount of spam and nastiness that I've had in the comments that I've recapped, but I have seen it on other TNs. I'm sorry that 5ft has had to deal with so much to the point that she's out now. Those idiots have won.
Anyway, I would sorely miss this site if it didn't exist, it's the first thing I click on when I open my computer.
Team leaders for the four Univision shows and the Telemundo stream, please contact me directly now at caray@mappamundi.com
thanks
Hopefully things will settle down and you won't need to spend too much time policing, and plenty of time enjoying the wonderful community that you've created.
YEY! !!
I am relatively new to this blogging thing but was very disturbed to hear that the Telemundo blog is going away. The novelas on telemundo are much more modern and compelling and interesting to me. Also my spanish is below intermediate so I truly rely on the caraycaray post for insights. I hope you reconsider or we find an altenative solution. I am now watching Fatmatgul and will be so disappointed and lost if this Novela is not discussed on this sight.

¡Muchísimas gracias!.
All of us on CarayCaray who enjoy the Telemundo novelas and the discussion about them are VERY grateful to you for deciding to keep the Telemundo page.
Diane - Thank you for the update on Telenovela-World. I've been checking every few days, so it probably came up and running within minutes after the last time I checked. (((Hugs)))
Muchísimas Gracias,
I have no understanding whatsoever regarding the maintenance of this blog.
I just realize that it is a tremendous amount of work and vigilance to keep it going.
Continued appreciation for all of it.
Kat/Diva- Even though you're hanging up your admin hat, please, please do not hang up your recapper and commenter hat. You are a part of the heart and soul of this site. I would miss you terribly if you weren't still a presence here.
It lacks a certain je ne sais quoi for a diabolical plan from a narcissistic egomaniac, but, oh well, I guess I'm not a very good one :D
Thank you, Kat, for all you've done too - way beyond the call of duty.
Thanks to fellow recappers, past and present, and all the commenters, whose friendship and support built this community word-by-word into something truly majestic.
One of these days, I'll get back into TNs and rejoin you. But for now, I'm just glad the blog will continue!
Thank you Jane for continuing on. I really appreciate it.
Thank you thank you La Diva for all of your hard work behind the scenes!!!!
Kat, thank you for your work. I join the others in hoping that you will continue on as a commenter and recapper.
Kat, thank you so much for your years of hard work on this wonderful site! I remember also your recapping Mujeres Asesinas and how enjoyable your recaps were. I haven't watched very many Univisión novelas in recent years, so haven't been able to appreciate the recaps you do for those novelas. But your writing style is terrific.
I am very, very grateful for the decision to keep our little corner of the world, Telemundo viewers, alive and kicking.
Kat, to you especially as you hang up the Admin hat, bless you and I can't imagine this site without your recappiny and your humor. An extra big thank you to your significant other for his help. I so want to keep seeing you recap and offer up his viewpoints as well. Please??? (are we begging sufficiently?)

HIP HIP HOORAY and AHOY THERE
The Mystery Boinker of Santa Rita sails on and on in our hearts and in his wake, lifts us up out of our daily grind to spread sunshine and glee around this world-wide community.
I'm so thankful the MBofSR didn't sink you, Jane.

And thank you Diva for updating and adding so much. Letting people know what you're doing and what's going on isn't egomaniacal, its useful :)
Also thanks to all the other recappers and commenters,(except whoever was being a jerk, ya'll can go jump in the lake) you are all part of what makes this site so great.
Diva, I hope you aren't so disheartened and exhausted by the trolls' negative energy that you disappear altogether from CarayCaray. But if you need a sabbatical, I would surely understand. You have been on the front lines for a long time now and it has been brutal at times. Why anyone would want to attack people who volunteer their time, energy and talent eludes me? But so it is.
At any rate, whatever you decide...heartfelt thanks to you both.
Diva - I echo others in asking, or begging, you to keep recapping and commenting. When you were recapping LQNPA, you described how everyone was moving into Rogelio's hacienda, parking themselves on the couch, and putting their dirty boots on the coffee table. Not in those words exactly, but I'll never forget how I laughed.
Thanks again. I love this site!
I just found your site last week and said to myself "OMG this is the BEST website EVER!!" I've been trying to learn Spanish on my own for a couple years and I started watching telenovelas to get my up comprehension skills. I still find myself lost sometimes and this site has helped tremendously. All the recappers do a fantastic job and I love the witty (or should I say snarky) comments! I just want to thank all of you, I know it can't be easy doing these write up for free and for what seems like very little appreciation. I just want to say thanks to you and to all the recappers. I really hope you are able to keep this site going. I just found you! Don't leave now!!
My sincerest and profoundest thanks to you, Diva, and everybody that helps make this site what it is. Thank you again, for opening up this dialogue with us, and for giving us all a chance to have our say. I think I can speak for us all when I say that- moving forward- should you encounter any further problems, PLEASE come to we, your faithful viewers and friends, so that we can all work together to help you with whatever it may be. You do and have done, SO MUCH for us, that this is the very least that we can do. Wasn't it Hillary Clinton that said "it takes a village"?? I know she certainly wasn't referring to keeping a telenovela blog, but I think it applies here... you have given us so much, we SHOULD chip in and help you whenever need be!
Regardless, thank you so much for everything. I look forward to continuing with the wonderful group of people on here in sharing, laughing, commiserating, and moving forward with this wonderful Caraycaray.com.
With my thanks again, and best wishes, as ever...
Haven't commented or recapped for some time but I LOVE THIS SITE!! I pop in occasionally to catch up or to get clarification on a plot twist. It's tragic to hear how many issues you've had to deal with. Glad to see you're doing what you can to keep it going. It would be a shame to have to close this site which has found its way into so many hearts. Gotta keep the Patio alive.
Paquita
Many thanks indeed for not depriving us of Caray Caray! You made the right decision and we are very grateful and ready to assist you in any way we can! :)
Dear Diva del Desierto / 5ft Latina,
Please allow me to express my utmost gratitude for the colossal administrative endeavor you undertook and successfully completed! You are a superstar and don't let the haters make you feel any less than what you truly are, a superstar! I discovered the blog last year and never had a chance to thank you personally because I was reading your recaps from shows that aired years ago. For your eloquence, astute observations and unequaled wit, a gigantic thank you! For the countless guffaws, hyena howls and tears of hilarity you provoked when I read your recaps, there is never going to be a thank you big enough to do you justice! You are part of the essence of this blog, your generosity of spirit and your talents are greatly appreciated despite what the haters, naysayers and trollers claim. Please take all the time you need and whenever you're ready to come back, know that your adoring readership will be waiting for you with open arms!
Te queremos Diva, te queremos!
5ft and Mr. 5 ft - Thanks so much for all you've done behind the scenes.
This is a safe place for so many - to support, encourage and empathize. A community of very special individuals.
I am so appreciative.
Kat, I can only echo what Vivi and others have said so eloquently. You are such an integral and beloved presence here. Your voice is strong, courageous, insightful and delightful. I am fervently hoping you do continue to recap and/or comment. You would be very much missed. Hugs to you and Mr. 5 ft.
Diana
(This is admittedly belated, but I felt that I needed to offer my thanks.)
Ive been a fan of novelas ever since I can remember and even though I can undersand Spanish a lot better now than when I was a kid, it's still difficult at times.
So this blog is really really helfpful. And its also so wonderful to read comments and feel like there's a community out there who loves a show just as much as you.
It gets lonely sometimes, you know?
Anyway big thanks to you Julie and Kat! Bless you for all your hard work and for keeping the blog open.
helpful in that it helps me to understand the telenovelas. I enjoy getting a good laugh at the descriptions of different characters. I hope you will be able to keep this site open. Keep up the good work.
All the good people , recaps and comments are fascinating . The amount of trust that was put in me when I was just a beginner has been enourmous. Trash gathers on every public place. It's the same as in real life and it is on the Internet. I wish everyone good wishes hoping that this lovely community does not die out.
