Pasión y Poder, Episodio 44, jueves, 7 de enero, 2016: Eladio Shapes the Narrative (And Erick Runs Away!)
Who would have imagined that one dead Ratt would stir up so much trouble? Tonight, the gaming and blaming continue...
Bloodsucker
Gisela, determined to turn a profit on her blood connection to Franco, lurks outside the Gómez-Luna mansion. She accosts her grandson – whose face, the Patio is delighted to observe, still looks like raw hamburger kept a day too long in the fridge – and tells him THE TRUTH: his parents are not dead. His mother is a woman named Caridad Herrera, she says. And reaching into her waistband (ewww!), she hands him a photo of her daughter – and Franco's mother. Franco studies it for a moment. Does he feel the llamado de la sangre? Or of the cheekbones? Hard to say. But he says he'll need proof if he is to believe Gisela's contention. She will provide that proof – for a price. Franco scowls, but he pays up. Then he leaves her. As he limps up the stairs to the house, he takes a call from Eladio on his cellphone.
Gisela scuttles off, but not quite fast enough. Callao has seen her and now he wants to know why she is there.
Inside the Montenegro Mansion
Regina and David say their reluctant goodbyes. Regina has had to postpone her trip, but David has a plane to catch to Puerto Vallarta.
Regina has called Agustín and now he shows up at the same time as Clara. Petra leads them into the foyer. Clara heads upstairs to see Consuelo. Agustín asks after Consuelo, but he is really there to talk to Erick the Idiot. Does he notice that Petra is giving him the eye? Perhaps. Or maybe he's just used to women checking him out.
Hearts and Flowers
Consuelo, dripping with a sort of louche glamour in her thirties-style flower print robe, is flanked by her lovely friend Clara (in her flower-bedecked tank top) and her equally lovely cuñada Regina (who wears a tiny heart on a chain around her neck). Consuelo has finally seen the light. (Hallelujah!) Her love for Erick is so over. As soon as the doctor gives her the okay, she is going to accept Clara's offer and stay with her. (Poor Clara.) But Regina talks her out of it, persuading her that in the Montenegro house, there are people around to take care of her. (Oy.)

On the landing outside Consuelo's room, Clara whips out her Andrea catalog and manages to sell Regina some scary looking shoes and boots. Her first sale!

Don't yell at me! Waaaaaaah!
Agustín stands over Erick and questions him in his best Perry Mason manner:
How long did you know the Ratt?
Since Consuelo and I started dating.
Where were you when she was killed?
I've told you that a thousand times! I didn't kill her. Period!
Agustín explains to Erick the Idiot that he is trying to prepare him for what is to come. The police will be far more aggressive in their questioning. He reminds him that his father warned him to stay away from the Ratt. Did he listen? Noooooooo! "Don't scold me!" blubbers the Ape Child. "That doesn't help me!"
MERD! (Miguel, Erick, Regina and Daniel)
Now the girl who puts the D in MERD speaks up, claiming that Erick was in a bar with her when the Ratt was killed. And she can buy as many witnesses as they need to corroborate her story. Agustín has to explain to Daniela that a false alibi would make things worse for her brother. It's a fact that Erick was in the RattHole on the night that Orkin came to call, and his fingerprints are probably all over the place.
Casa Gómez-Luna, Julia's room – It was a dark and stormy night... of the soul.
The muted burgundy and black of Julia's dress echo the painting on the wall. And they reflect her dark suspicions as well: Eladio could have killed that woman. The night she fell down the stairs, she was trying to run away from him – maybe the same thing happened to the Ratt. She hopes he's not the culprit – not for Eladio's sake, but for David's. Gaby agrees that David would be hurt to learn that his father was seeing 'that woman.' Julia repeats her reason for going to the RattHole in the first place and her desperate desire to get a divorce. Of course she's upset that a young woman is dead, but did the timing have to be so inconvenient? Couldn't someone have murdered the Ratt after she testified to her affair with Eladio?
Gaby thinks it's lucky that nobody saw Julia in the RattHole. Julia says Eladio would go to prison himself rather than allow her to be interrogated. Gaby reflects on the contradiction: Eladio is capable of these grand gestures and yet also treats her so badly at times. It's always been like that, Julia tells her niece. And she repeats her reluctant suspicion: Eladio could be the Ratt's murderer.
Wilted Flowers, Broken Hearts
Erick bursts into what used to be his marital bedroom and tells Consuelo that Agustín needs to talk to her about what to tell the police. And wagging his finger in her face, he warns her to watch her step – she is the ONLY person who had a motive to kill the Ratt! Just then, Agustín joins them and adds this tidbit: he has just learned that Eladio may be involved. Someone told the police that he was also at the party and they are going to investigate the lead.
Erick is beside himself. That bastard Eladio took his Montsy from him! His poor little Montsy!
Agustín has to lead Erick out of the room. Consuelo tells Regina the obvious: There's no love in this place and no respect – not for her and not for her child. She really has to leave.
Field Trip – When the going gets tough, the tough go shopping.
Now this is what you call retail therapy. She may have spent the GNP of a small Latin American country, but it was worth it: Nina looks fabulous in her color-blocked urban camouflage. If she stood very still, she would be indistinguishable from the beige, gold and brown drapes in the luxurious New York City suite where she and Arturo are staying. She is at the top of her game.
Why don't she and Arturo buy themselves a penthouse overlooking Central Park? The kids are all grown up now and it won't be long before they leave the nest. [Ufffff. Pardon me, I wasn't laughing – really, I just had a little tickle in my throat.] Yes, the Montenegro corporate headquarters are in Mexico, but Arturo could manage it all from the Big Apple...
Poor Nina's hopes are dashed when Arturo checks his phone and learns that the Ratt is dead. Nina assures him that Erick could not possibly have been at the party. Arturo calls home...
Erick is spinning out of control and Agustín's efforts to calm him down are futile. As Erick storms out, Petra enters and hands Agustín the phone: It's Arturo. Before taking the call, Agustín tells Petra to alert their security staff: Erick is not to leave the house. Then he tells Arturo the latest...
In the home office, Franco is showing Eladio one of his favorite online dating sites...
No, sorry, my bad. It seems they are watching a news story about The Night the Rodent Died. Their ears prick up when the newscaster says:
Se corre el rumor que Erick Montenegro, el hijo del famoso empresario Arturo Montenegro, estuvo en la fiesta y tendría una relación amorosa con ella.
(It is rumored that Erick M, son of the famous businessman A.M, was at the party and allegedly had a romantic relationship with her.)
Grammar Nerd Note: The use of the conditional (...tendría una relación) is very common in news reports, both on TV and in print, to indicate that something is speculative, rather than certain. The usual translation to English is something like: "Allegedly," or "is alleged to have (had)..." or "is believed to ..." or "is thought to ..."
Eladio and Franco are pleased at how the story has been framed. "I told you you could leave it to me, Godfather," says Franco smugly.
Now Callao comes in with the news that he spotted Gisela lurking outside the mansion. Franco admits he saw her too, though he doesn't repeat what she told him; instead, he says she wanted to talk to Eladio.
At first, Eladio orders Callao not to allow Gisela to come back. Then he changes his mind: Callao is simply to let him know if he sees her around the house again.
When Callao leaves, Eladio stares hard at Franco, as if trying to read in the battered face exactly how much he knows. And exactly how much he is lying.
Bye Bye Penthouse
Arturo tells Nina that Erick was, indeed, at the RattHole. They will have to go back to Mexico right after their client dinner.
Blubber, Blubber
Erick whines about not being able to leave his own house. Agustín tells him that if he really wants to help with the investigation, he should man up and talk to the police. Regina reproaches her brother for his disrespectful behavior in front of Consuelo. Erick wails that he doesn't care. All that matters is they took his Montsy away. And he's not going to give a statement because he'll end up taking the fall for her murder and going to jail. He knows it was Gómez-Luna because he had a motive: "Montserrat left him for me!"
Whoa. This is news to Regina. The Ratt was Eladio's lover? Yup. And Erick the Idiot Child is going to demand that he confess to murdering the rodent. So saying, he storms out again.
Regina worries that Erick will do something stupid because, well, that's what he does. But Agustín reassures her that he can't leave the house. Right now, they have to focus on defending the fool and comforting Consuelo. Regina wonders if Eladio could have done it. It's hard to say, answers Agustín cautiously, but he has learned some unsavory things about Regina's suegro...
They'll have to buy their elotes at someone else's stand today.
Luisita seems fully recovered from her recent, scary illness. And Clara's friendship with Justino seems fully recovered too. When Justino comes home, he thanks Clara for taking care of the little girl. He turns down her offer to help with the corn stand. He's not opening today because he's going to stay home with his daughter. When Clara leaves, he picks up the small, framed photo of Maribel and Luisita and stares sadly at their faces.
Montserrat's only groupie follows her death as avidly as he followed her life.
Aldo watches the news about the Ratt's "tragic accident" and the ongoing investigation. He listens very closely when Eladio's name is mentioned. And then he remembers something else: "Of course! When I got there, Eladio's wife was leaving Montsy's apartment!" (So now Aldo is a threat to Julia!)
Consuelo's room
Daniela begs her sister-in-law not to testify against Erick. He is, after all, the father of her baby. Consuelo is unmoved by the appeal.
But Daniela is undaunted. She returns a little later to plead Erick's case. He wasn't even seeing the Ratt, she tells Consuelo – the Ratt was Eladio's lover!
Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco – We heart you!
David is welcomed to the Grand Fiesta Americana Hotel with a warm Aztec greeting. He calls Regina to let her know he has arrived safely. She updates him on the investigation, though she says nothing about Eladio's involvement.
Back in Mexico...
Miguel enters Regina's room noiselessly (and creepily) and overhears her end of the conversation. Regina then explains to Miguel that she is reluctant to tell David about the Eladio connection. Miguel thinks she should keep her mouth shut. Maybe David will find out anyway, but he doesn't have to hear it from her.
New York City
Arturo and Nina meet their American contact – whose Spanish is actually not too ridiculous. For a gringo. Their English sounds pretty good too. [But if you really want to be impressed by a Mexican speaking English, check out Gael García Bernal's Rodrigo in Mozart in the Jungle.] Arturo whips out his tablet and shows the guy his proposal.
Arturo is not only interested in the Mexican franchise for the man's restaurants, he would like Montenegro Construction to build them. He talks up the firm's ability to generate hydroelectric energy and then proposes a sort of joint venture.
The gringo will give it serious thought, though he is still keeping his options open.
They shake hands. The American leaves. Nina – who looks a hell of a lot better with a symmetrical head and without the purple lipstick – leans in for one of her inappropriate kisses as the diners around them pretend not to notice.
Night has fallen over the Gómez-Luna Mansion
Is Eladio nervous? He sprays whatever-that-crap-is into his mouth and wonders aloud how the press found out he was at the party. Franco says they'll find out when his police contact gets him the witness statements. Just then, Simona leads in a couple of plainclothes cops who want to ask Eladio some questions. Eladio invites them to sit down. He whispers to Franco to call the lawyer and to keep Julia from coming downstairs.
When the cops ask Franco about his obvious bruises, he tells them he was assaulted and robbed – he's lucky to be alive.
Eladio acknowledges he was at the RattHole on the night in question, but adds that he'd prefer to wait until his lawyer is present before saying more. The cops say they only have a couple of questions. "Do you have a court order?" asks Eladio, sneaking in another quick spray. They don't, but since Eladio has nothing to hide and is such a prince among men, he'll answer their questions anyway:
Q: What was your relationship with the deceased?
A: She was my employee. She worked for me, for my companies.
Meanwhile, upstairs, Julia announces to Gaby that it would be better to talk to the police and tell them the truth. Before she can do so, however, Franco arrives with Eladio's instructions: "Don't go downstairs for any reason." Now Humberto rolls up and offers to keep the women under control. [Oh, it would be so easy to tip over the tiny man's wheelchair... or turn off his oxygen ever so briefly. So very easy...]
Humberto tells Julia it is her duty to support Eladio in everything. When Gaby tries to object, he tells her to shut up. Then Humberto accuses Julia of trying to get rid of Eladio by sending him to jail.
And downstairs, Eladio continues to cooperate fully with the police:
"Of course, you're going to find my fingerprints in the apartment because we had meetings there. It's to be expected – the Ratt worked exclusively for me. And now that I think about it, you might find Franco Herrera's fingerprints too. He's my right hand man."
Franco returns and confirms what Eladio has said. Eladio adds that he was only there to wish the Ratt a happy birthday. He was the only one without a disguise, so he's probably the only guest that everyone recognized.
He denies any romantic relationship with the Ratt. He gave her his best wishes and then left for a nearby bar – his driver can corroborate what he is saying. Así es, agrees Callao quickly.
Gentlemen, please – a little respect.
The cops have also learned that Eladio was paying the rent on the dead Ratt's apartment and that he had given her a car. Eladio doesn't deny it – they were part of her compensation package. When one of the cops laughs out loud, Eladio chastises him: "It's not funny. We're talking about a woman who died." Then he dismisses them, telling them not to return without a court order. All the while, Franco's head is bobbing up and down like a dashboard ornament going over a rough road.
Don't do it, Erick!
Erick begs Daniela to distract the security guys so he can get away. He needs some time, he says. He promises she won't get in any trouble. Then he scurries away, pulling his suitcase behind him.
Petra catches a glimpse of his retreating figure when she comes in to announce that the police have returned and want to talk to him. When Regina asks her sister where Erick is, Daniela flat-out lies: she hasn't seen him. Then she offers to go look for him.
A moment later, she and Regina are alone in front of the two returning police officers. This time the cops are armed with a court order, but Erick is nowhere to be found.
And then a beautiful dame called down from the balcony. I looked up into the saddest eyes I had ever seen. I could tell from the tilt of her chin that she was determined to set something right...
Consuelo, however, calls down from the upstairs landing. She wants to make a statement.
Regina leads the cops upstairs. Daniela sends a quick text to warn Erick about what is happening. He is just outside the mansion. When a cab drops off a passenger right across the street, he gets in quickly and heads off in the night.
Before Consuelo can say anything to the police officers, she gets a terrible pain in her belly. Regina leads her back to bed and Daniela calls the doctor, first taking time to scold the cops for harassing her poor cuñada.
It's for your own good!
Nasty, selfish little Humberto assures Julia that he is acting on her behalf, even if she's too foolish to understand that. If the Ratt was Eladio's lover, the police are going to accuse Julia herself of rodenticide. They won't believe her story at all. Julia rues the day Eladio brought Humberto there. (¡En mala hora, papá!)
Eladio returns in time to see Humberto roll away in full self-pity mode because his daughter shows him no respect.
Eladio tells Julia she needs to leave town for a few days.
Puerto Vallarta
David is relaxing at the bar when he gets a call from Francisco. According to the media, Francisco says, David's father is also involved in the Ratt's death.
In loco parentis until the loco parents get home
Regina, in her continued efforts to hold down the fort, shoos the cops away, reproaching them for blaming Consuelo for rodenticide (although they really never did that). Just then, Arturo and Nina walk in. Arturo takes up Consuelo's defense and informs the officers that no member of his family is going to make a statement unless their attorney is present.
Blame the gutter press!
David immediately calls Eladio and asks for an explanation. Eladio blames the press for making an issue out of the fact that the Ratt was their model. He says he's going to send Julia to him for a few days to get her out of the media storm.
Julia, who has been listening to this conversation, looks up, seemingly dazed. "I'm going on a trip... without you?" Eladio nods gravely.
It's not Beauty we want – it's the Beast!
Arturo assures the police officers that his daughter-in-law will go to the police station to give her statement as soon as her doctor gives his approval. One of the cops clarifies: "The problem is that your son doesn't want to cooperate with us." It's their second trip to the house, and this time, they have a court order obliging him to make a statement. Arturo signs a receipt for the document. The officers leave.
Why Julia was never short-listed for a MacArthur grant
Of course she'd like to spend time with David, Julia tells Eladio, but she is afraid that if she leaves town, it will look as if she is running away from something. And she has nothing to hide.
Eladio says if she hadn't gone to the RattHole, none of this would be happening. Julia gets mad – she's not going to accept any blame here.
"Who would you rather be with – David or me?"
"Well if you put it like that, I'll leave tomorrow!"
It turns out Erick did get Daniela in trouble. MERD.
Once the police are gone, Arturo turns his attention to his youngest daughter. He knows that Dani always covers for Erick. Where is he?
Arturo is momentarily distracted by the arrival of Consuelo's doctor, but soon focuses back on Dani, who admits she saw Erick leave but doesn't know where he went. Nina defends her daughter, telling Arturo not to yell at her. "You're scaring her!"
Between his Stepford Wife and his Stepford Daughter, Arturo is losing control. Doesn't Daniela realize Erick is being accused of murder?
"You know why everything got so complicated?" shouts Nina. "Because Consuelo wanted to talk! It's all her fault!"
Arturo retorts that Erick is the only one to blame because he's the one who did so many stupid things.
"Well the only one I'm worried about is my son," Nina tells him. And she's not going to let Consuelo put the blame on him.
Mother and daughter storm out.
Sucks to be you, Aldo
Eladio orders Franco to arrange everything so Julia can leave early tomorrow. Does Franco know who told the police that he was at the party? He does. It was the neighbor. It was Aldo.
Eladio looks thoughtful. "Very good. He doesn't know what's coming."
Franco urges Eladio not to get mixed up in what could spell trouble. The police are watching Aldo's building and Eladio's presence there would arouse suspicion. "Let me take care of it, Godfather."
Eladio agrees, but he wants Aldo watched. "If I find out he's the one who accused me, I'm going to kill him."
"The important thing right now," says Franco, "is to keep you and my godmother above suspicion. I have an idea..."
"Didn't you hear me? I'm going to kill him."

I'm so grateful for "the rodenticide" (great one!) because of the ensuing mayhem! This was a brilliant episode and these were the highlights for me:
-- Finally some action for Agustín! My silver-haired prince ran to the rescue and took charge of the crisis management in a house full of cry-babies and spoiled brats! I bet if Agustín was in charge of the Montenegro household for one month, he’ll whip that sorry bunch into tip-top shape!
-- Watching Chimp Boy freak out was hilarious and his disappearing act proves that he has the IQ of a banana tree! Alejandro Nones is such a delight as Erick, I’m forgiving the producer for casting him in an age-inappropriate role!
-- I don’t know about you, but I have had it with Julia! So your husband says he’d rather go to jail on a charge he vehemently denies than put you through the inconvenience of being questioned by the police and you’re still despising him and accusing him of murder? Boo, you ungrateful cow!
-- Eladio handled the cops Like. A. Boss. That was the star scene for me in this episode. I especially loved how he scolded them for sniggering: “¡No le veo la risa, estamos hablando de una occisa!” (“I don’t see what’s funny here, we’re talking about a woman who died a violent death!”. P.S. I learnt a brand new word today: “occiso(a)” is specifically used for a person who died a violent death. I don’t know if an equivalent word exists in English.)
Franco had said it before: “Eladio Gómez Luna no olvida un favor y mucho menos una traición” ("Eladio Gómez Luna does not forget a favor and much less a betrayal") Looks like Aldo is in for a world of pain!

Dejar (de) = In this quote it’s the intransitive verb “dejar” that is being used and it means: to stop, to cease.
However, in its transitive form “dejar” normally means:

Encubrir = to cover up. (in other contexts, it may also mean: to hide, to mask)
Perjudicar = to harm, to wrong, to be detrimental to.
Encontrar = to find, to discover, to come across. (another common definition of “encontrar” is to meet, to run into somebody)
Huella = fingerprint (depending on the context, it can also mean: trace, mark, track).
Lado = side, place. “Por todos lados” means: everywhere, all over.
For Franco and Justino to have been switched is something Gisela is capable of (and it would really stick it to Eladio), but that would make her a low-rent Ursula with Hosefa rising because then Luisita would be her great-grandchild. I don't think Gisela is that clever or that she is capable of that kind of planning.
Besides, Franco looks more alpha than Justino and more like Eladio. And he got screwed no matter which of them is Eladio's son.
Hello beautiful peeps! I haven't had a chance to read all the comments that poured in since last night (seriously bravo RatHo for getting whacked :p ) but I just wanted to acknowledge how grateful I am for your company and for the way you so kindly embraced me since I came out of lurkdom.
I'm really glad we get to keep our Patio after the latest scare because otherwise I would have no other space where I can share this precious nugget of information I just discovered in Friday's episode (#45): Nina's name is Ernestina! Arturo mumbled it in true JS fashion, it was barely audible but I rewound the video a couple of times and I'm pretty sure he said "Por Dios, Ernestina!", when he complained about the places her son frequents and she replied that all guys his age do the same! I don't know why but I got pretty excited when I heard this!
I gotta dash to brunch with my babybro who I haven't seen in months. Many thanks in advance to Mauricio for a what will surely be another brilliantly witty recap and an excellent weekend to all my fellow Patio dwellers! Catch ya next week! :)

Wow, great stuff NM!! (and thank you for the "grammar nerd" info!!) I'm sort of digging this murder mystery angle. Somehow it makes all these screwed up people more palatable to take. I was admittedly wavering on this one for awhile.

Have to give it to him, Eladio is cool when he wants to be and quick on his feet. He handled those cops like a pro ( and may have had to in his past). I really like the idea of Julia going to where David is. Just makes me less chilled that she's still in that house. I'm sure Eladio will make sure her every move is still being watched though.
And Gina, really, Consuelo for once has seen the light of day and she's right. She needs to leave. Nina's comments reinforced that for me, and frankly, I could see her and Dani manipulating comments to the police to insinuate Connie and let her take the fall.
I don't think anyone we suspect can be ruled out right now. But boy, I wish Augustin worked for the cops. We would see him more often and would love to watch him interrogating everyone.

Far, far too many lines to state my favorites but they include “Who would have imagined that one dead Ratt would stir up so much trouble?”, “louche glamor”, “ MERD! (Miguel, Erick, Regina and Daniel)” and “color-blocked urban camouflage” were excellent.
Erick is not standing on the precipice of madness, he has thrown himself into the fiery pit. A pathetic, crazed lunatic.
Instead of fading into the woodwork, quietly and unobtrusively (like the little worm he is), Aldo continued to stand in the spotlight. A savvier individual might have realized a murderer is loose and it might be best to disappear. "Montserrat's only groupie follows her death as avidly as he followed her life". Indeed.
Perhaps I am wrong but Nina did not seem too terribly troubled by one of her favorite children being a murder suspect. It seemed mostly lip service.
I did feel a bit of pity for Franco, our not so dear Cyclops when his warm and tender abuela handed him his mother's picture. But, it evaporated quickly as his scheming machinations began as soon as he climbed the steps.
This is really getting good and the caliber of all the recaps continually escalates. Phenomenal.

I'm so grateful for "the rodenticide" (great one!) because of the ensuing mayhem! This was a brilliant episode and these were the highlights for me:
-- Finally some action for Agustín! My silver-haired prince ran to the rescue and took charge of the crisis management in a house full of cry-babies and spoiled brats! I bet if Agustín was in charge of the Montenegro household for one month, he’ll whip that sorry bunch into tip-top shape!
-- Watching Chimp Boy freak out was hilarious and his disappearing act proves that he has the IQ of a banana tree! Alejandro Nones is such a delight as Erick, I’m forgiving the producer for casting him in an age-inappropriate role!
-- I don’t know about you, but I have had it with Julia! So your husband says he’d rather go to jail on a charge he vehemently denies than put you through the inconvenience of being questioned by the police and you’re still despising him and accusing him of murder? Boo, you ungrateful cow!
-- Eladio handled the cops Like. A. Boss. That was the star scene for me in this episode. I especially loved how he scolded them for sniggering: “¡No le veo la risa, estamos hablando de una occisa!” (“I don’t see what’s funny here, we’re talking about a woman who died a violent death!”. P.S. I learnt a brand new word today: “occiso(a)” is specifically used for a person who died a violent death. I don’t know if an equivalent word exists in English.)
Franco had said it before: “Eladio Gómez Luna no olvida un favor y mucho menos una traición” ("Eladio Gómez Luna does not forget a favor and much less a betrayal") Looks like Aldo is in for a world of pain!

NovelaMaven- You were in your element with this recap! I too am loving all the drama the Rat's extermination has churned up. It's great.
I believe Gina's reasoning for Connie staying in the house was sound-- she needs to be on bed rest and she would be alone all day at Clara's while she's at work. At the mansion, there would always be someone to care for her. The drawback is that she has to live with Nina and Dani too, who seem determined to provoke a miscarriage. I think if it comes down to choosing between Connie or Erick in the house, Art will choose Connie (especially after Erick's latest misteps), and it's Art's house.
I don't see Eladio's keeping Julia from talking to the cops as his being selfless. He doesn't want the cops to know he was the Rat's lover (they can make as many implications as they want). If they talk to Julia, they will learn the truth. That will make BOTH him and Julia suspects. This is not a selfless act of love on his part.

Julia seems on the verge of a nervous breakdown. She was so high strung last night, like on drugs. Though it was funny when she incredulously asked Eladio, "what? go by myself without you?"
Nina's dress did match the drapes and decor in the hotel room. Only someone that tall and with that figure could pull off the dress.
Gisela is despicable. Manipulating money out of her grandson?! Anvil worthy.

May I have a seat at the Augie table where we sip elegantly from our glasses and drool....I mean, appreciate our fine hero?? I'm such a sucker lately in these shows with the gray-haired, gorgeous eyed supporting heroes. ( Papa C in Muchacha--put him and Augie on the screen together and I would be a puddle.)

I saw an interview with Altair/Connie the other day, where she herself laughed at the thought that a shortie/chaparrita like her could be a runway model as she's playing in P&P. She has a good sense of humor about it.

Oi...some days you wonder how people come up with how the interpret things. TGIF - don't think I could take another call. After today, I'll be happy with a nice glass of Pinot Grigio or maybe a Pomegranate Margarita made just like the one at my local Spanish tapas place a block away. The only backstory we have is that ONLY Gisela and Eladio know Franco is Eladio's bi-product.
I think we heard Julia say that she accepted this poor little orphaned mite as an innocent babe when his parents were killed in a car crash, the parents or one parent having been a loyal employee of Eladio's. She reminded Eladio that she was willing to raise him alongside David. At some point, Eladio and Julia were named godparents and assumed legal responsibility for him.
Gisela is getting monthly hush money to keep her from revealing the real relationship between Franco and Eladio.

You got me, there. Maybe it was only to show what a deserving young man Justino is? He's been through so much and we've watched HIM and Luisita suffer. If she had just died promptly or had he been a widower to start out, maybe we wouldn't be quite so invested in him now. (Not that I am.) But, he's Clara's friend and if it doesn't work out with Francisco, maybe she'll realize that Justino is not a bad catch (rich or not).
You got me, there. Maybe it was only to show what a deserving young man Justino is? He's been through so much and we've watched HIM and Luisita suffer. If she had just died promptly or had he been a widower to start out, maybe we wouldn't be quite so invested in him now. (Not that I am.) But, he's Clara's friend and if it doesn't work out with Francisco, maybe she'll realize that Justino is not a bad catch (rich or not).
For Franco and Justino to have been switched is something Gisela is capable of (and it would really stick it to Eladio), but that would make her a low-rent Ursula with Hosefa rising because then Luisita would be her great-grandchild. I don't think Gisela is that clever or that she is capable of that kind of planning.
Besides, Franco looks more alpha than Justino and more like Eladio. And he got screwed no matter which of them is Eladio's son.
I believe Mozart in the Jungle is an Amazon Prime series.
Nina seems to be back to the purple lipstick. And I was really liking her NYC look.

For me, a more telling moment was seeing Nina on the 2d floor balcony of the hotel suite. The look on her face as Artie announced the Ratt's demise, was more like a deadpan, "Ok, so what, let's get on with shopping and dinner." But in the back of my mind was a little nagging, maybe she's not surprised because she DID IT.

Carlos: Erick is the comedy relief and Dani is adorable in her machinations. Not that fond of Erick, but truly beginning to love Dani.
Eladio was dismissive, like he thinks he's the emperor of Rome. Don't think for one second that the police missed that. Once they hear that he and the Rat were doing the Mattress Mambo they'll be back. Once they get Erick (and they will eventually) he will have the Big Mouth.

Every time Arturo tries to talk to Daniela, mother rat jumps in to defend her daughter rat. ---And you guys think that Montserrat is/was the only rat. There's a whole pack of them.
The wonderful long faithful mother bruja, rat Nina states that it's all Consuelo's fault. Well of course it is. Nina wouldn't loose a minutes sleep helping to send someone, an innocent person to jail for life to protect her rotten son.

Well, I say that maybe 20+ years of abuse had something to do with that. But I think that Vivi is right on about that. She stated that this is not a selfless act of love on his part. I believe with Vivi that Eladio was covering for himself to save his own skin.

I'm sorry to be so late in getting back to you, but my daughter and son-in-law flew in from California late last night to spend a few days with us and we've been running all over town together.

Hello beautiful peeps! I haven't had a chance to read all the comments that poured in since last night (seriously bravo RatHo for getting whacked :p ) but I just wanted to acknowledge how grateful I am for your company and for the way you so kindly embraced me since I came out of lurkdom.
I'm really glad we get to keep our Patio after the latest scare because otherwise I would have no other space where I can share this precious nugget of information I just discovered in Friday's episode (#45): Nina's name is Ernestina! Arturo mumbled it in true JS fashion, it was barely audible but I rewound the video a couple of times and I'm pretty sure he said "Por Dios, Ernestina!", when he complained about the places her son frequents and she replied that all guys his age do the same! I don't know why but I got pretty excited when I heard this!
I gotta dash to brunch with my babybro who I haven't seen in months. Many thanks in advance to Mauricio for a what will surely be another brilliantly witty recap and an excellent weekend to all my fellow Patio dwellers! Catch ya next week! :)
