Premiere March 8: Sueño de Amor. Brief synopsis. Who's in?

Nandicta has said she'd like to recap this one. Other takers? Contact me at caray@mappamundi.com

Dream of Love tells the story of Esperanza and Ricardo and their desire to find each other again twenty years after living the intensity of first love. But today their lives are very different ...

Esperanza is a single mother and teacher in two different schools: in the exclusive Institute Palacios and also in the simple College Vasconcelos. She struggles every day to get ahead.

Meanwhile, in Los Angeles Ricardo is married to Tracy, a woman who puts puts her profession ahead of their children, Rodrigo and Selena. For this reason Ricardo is practically a "single" parent who must combine parenthood with his work as an agent of Interpol.

Life reunites them when Ricardo arrives, as an undercover agent, at Institute Palacios; he is following the trail of the terrible criminal "La Sombra".

Betty Monroe -- Esperanza Guerrero: a friendly, patient, fair and brave teacher. She is the mother and father at the same time and gives unreservedly to her family. She has dreams: to have her family improve its station in life, to build a school for poor children, and above all to see Richard, the love of her life, again.

Cristián de La Fuente -- Ricardo Alegría: the man who fought for the American dream and got it. He's an Interpol agent and the father of two wonderful children. But living with his wife Tracy has become untenable. Ricardo will have the good fortune to reunite with the love of his life. With patience and a lot of affection, they will establish a "reconstructed family" with all their children.

Carmen Salinas -- Margarita Manzanares: bold, cheerful and witty. She's a lively granny who understands technology. She always gives the right advice and wants to help her family find happiness. There is conflict with her daughter Silvana, director of the pompous Institute Palacios bombastic while Margarita runs the simple College Vasconcelos.

La sombra: a very dangerous international criminal, an art and jewel thief and jewels willing to do anything to get what he wants. He's been a nightmare not only for police but also for Ricardo and his family. He can even abandon his identity so nobody can catch him.

Sabine Moussier -- Tracy Kidman: Ricardo's capricious, impatient and selfish wife. For her the job comes first, she neglects her marriage and children. But as soon as she realizes Ricardo and his family can find happiness, she'll do what she can to become their nightmare. She is American and has little command of Spanish.

El Chapo de Sinaloa -- Jerónimo Durán: a very cheerful and hardworking bricklayer whose talent for singing may turn him into the builder of his own dream.

Comments:
Wow! Thank you for this synopsis, I saw the commercial for this last night and was very intrigued. Seems like a very original story to me but I know in the TN world almost everything is a remake. Excuse me while I squeal: Cristian!!!

Thank you Jane. This one sounds interesting. I'll give this one a shot.

Thank you, Jane, for the background. This looks like fun.

Count me in. Please save a chair on the patio for me!

Is this another wacky over the top comedy like this timeslot usually has - Antes Muerta Que Lichita, Amores Con Trampa, Mi Corazon es Tuyo, etc..?

Also, anyone know if we are ever getting A Que No Me Dejas? That is one I wanted to see and hope we eventually get it and not just get it but in a night time slot so it has English caps.

Thank you for posting the synopsis and the presentation of the main characters, BlogMom!

I think many of us here would welcome a little light (and dumbed down) TN fare after intense, "hearty" and excellent shows like Yo No Creo En Los Hombres, Pasión y Poder and El Hotel De Los Secretos, whose brisk narrative pace, engaging plotlines and controversial characters are conducive to interesting debates and deep character analyses. I say bring on the mindless drivel, the cheesy dialogues and the gratuitous shots of hunky beefcake and skimpily dressed hot chicas. And yes, Lily, let me join the squealing chorus: Cristiaaaaaaan! :)

Interesting this is set in the US and has a native spanish speaker playing a woman who's spanish is really bad. I might tune in for that and of course Cristian de la Fuente. But an Osorio production is a complete turnoff, so I don't hold much hope in sticking with it.

Jane, this looks tempting. Thanks so much for providing this.

I had thought that Adela Noreiga was going to be in this (?) I had really looked forward to seeing her again.

I totally agree that de la Fuente is hawt. Very!

Diana

I might watch it for Christian ,Sabine and Julian Gil even if I can't stand comedies besides I desired El Color De la Pasion or A que no me Dejas instead so I don't hold any breath.

Is this an 8:00pm or 3:00pm slot? And it looks like it will be a good one. Because of
Christiaaaaaaaaan!!!!

Nina, it is 8:00 EST.

I can't commit to recapping, but I am going to give it a shot...as Nina says, "Because of Cristiaaaaaaaan!!!"

It's a good thing I have DVR, because I'm really enjoying Quien es Quien, also at 8:00, on Tmundo. I'll give Sueno a chance, but the idea of Sabine Moussier married to Cristian and speaking bad Spanish will really gag me.

Thank you jarifa. Thats a pretty name: jarifa!!

Ok his name doesn't have an 'h' in it?

Christian, Cristian, one or the other.

Nina, when you "giggle" HIMSELF, his given name is Cristian--with the accent over the second a (natch, it's Spanish for Christian). But you can call him anything you like and we'll still get it!

Pros:
1) Cristian looks pretty delicious in the promos and photos.
2) Mature protagonists

Cons:
Uhm...just about everything else.

I will definitely give it a try and a look-see (see CdlF smile; see CdlF shirtless; etc.)

Ay, Vivi--We must stop drooling. When I first saw the promo I wondered if we were going to get the Spanish version of Kindergarten Cop (which I will proudly say I never saw).

I'm prepared to watch Cristián de la Fuente in anything! Absolutely anything!
To be honest, I'm a little scared that this solemn proclamation might come back and bite me in the behind. However, if this TN ruins my Bombón Chileno for me, so help me, I will send Osorio hate mail! :D

I might just watch it without the sound, then I won't be disappointed, lol.

Anita, thats exactly what I thought about when I saw the promo "kimdergarden cop".
I 'd love to see a different version of it In another language. But with christian. Yaaay!!

I have not had the "Cristián de la Fuente experience" yet. Should be interesting after reading how his mere presence is the reason some are willing to give this one a try. : )

Thanks, Nina.

Jarifa, he will melt you, if you're lucky.

Looks like we have a Cristián de la Fuente virgin here! Ay, Jarifa, ni te cuento! You are in for a treat! ;) Cathyx put it best: "he will melt you, if you're lucky." I remember my first "encounter" with my Bombón Chileno. I had to be collected off the floor, with a teaspoon. And that chilean accent... Merrrrrcy!

Vivi and I were fighting over him in Amor Bravio. Mmmhmm.

Hmmm. . . I may have to do some "research" before this one starts . . .

Jarifa--Just find a couple of the UTub offerings of Camila and Daniel.......that's all the research you need.

I like cathyx's solution if the story really gets horrid--turn off the sound. Doing that, we may not be able to tell the story from the adverts apart--especially if we get repeats of Cristian's sparkly teeth commercial.

Thank you for telling us what it is kinda about I to love Christian de la Fuente he's to hot but I'm also watching it for renata notni I'm probably one of the few people who like her and also for Julian gill Betty monroy how ever you spell it she is good as well I have seen a couple of tns with her on tele azteca and to me anyway Juan osorio does some good tns I do with a que no me dejas or el color de la pasion would be on because both are good

As much as i was looking forward to watch Cristian in a novela from day one, i have to say i will probably watch sporadically, have had enough of Julian Gil and Sabine Moussier as villains... but i might watch the first week, thanks to Jane's sinopsis... very different story with the couple having been together in the past and then reunite.

Here I am, too, hopefully not too late to sign in for my telenovio number 1, the apple of my adoring eyes, the ever so gorgeous Cristian de la Fuente.
I am already missing out by not bien able to watch Pasion y Poder and Hotel de Los Secretos. If I won't be able to keep up with these one either then I'm just a tn fanatic wannabe then.

-- Evangelina: Renata Notni is lovely and conveys a lot of youthful energy in this TN. I have never seen Betty Monroe before (as you mentioned, she is an Azteca star and this is her Televisa debut) but I'm liking her so far. She reminds me of Angélica Vale ("La Fea Más Bella").

By the way, the "Lazos de Amor" refrito starring Angelique Boyer and Seb Rulli will not air on Univision after "Pasión y Poder". They are having production delays. Apparently, A Que No Me Dejas will be shown instead. Woohoo! I don't know who got the genius idea or remaking "Lazos de Amor" or thought that La Boyer had the acting chops to play triplets, especially after the wonderful job Lucero did in the original TN. Besides the original TN was excruciatingly slow, despite having Carla Estrada at the helm, an excellent cast, an oustanding Lucero triple performance that infused each character with individual traits, and great production value (the editing of the triplets' scenes was brilliantly done, considering it was 1995) and very charming secondary characters! It was moving at a snail's pace, stretched the material of 70 episodes into 100 and as a result the dialogues were, in the most part, stuck on repeat. "Lazos de Amor" was hailed for Lucero's performance (arguably the best of her entire career) but the TN itself did not have good ratings. The star TN of 1995 was María La Del Barrio starring Thalía and my Fernando Colunga in his first protagónico. This is why I find it mind-boggling that Televisa would remake this story with the trio Boyer/Rulli/Zepeda and expect it to be anything but a circus! Mind you, these absurd circuses have had success before. Lartilleux is considered a successful TN producer in Mexico and so is Angelli Nesma, so the joke's on me!

Sorry for digressing, the main point here is that you'll be spared this train wreck in the US (for the time being) and you can enjoy A Que No Me Dejas instead! :)

-- Martaivett: I really hope you'll be able to join us for this one! I foreswore Osorio after MCET but he knew how to lure me back in (Drat!). Still, Cristián is so worth the sacrifice! Besides, I'm finding Julián Gil oddly attractive in this one. He never registered with me before, now he dyes his hair dark and I'm all: "Dayum! Check him out!" (What can I say, I like my guys morenos). The leading lady is growing on me too, lovely actress, though I would have liked her to make her Televisa debut in something other than an Osorio vehicle. Oh well, there'll be plenty of potential for snark for sure! :)

-- Adriana: You're always welcome, dear. Any Patio, any TN, there's always a seat waiting for you! But we understand that Mommy duty trumps TN fanatic aspirations! ( À propos, ton bébé est super mignon! À croquer le petit bout de chou!) :)

-- BlogMom and Fellow Carayites: Could you post a "Recappers Needed" appeal for this TN like Vivi did with "El Hotel De Los Secretos"? So far, only Jarifa and myself volunteered to recap. Anybody else interested? We have Tuesday, Thursday and Friday to cover. Please come forward in the comment section or contact Jane at caray@mappamundi.com. Many thanks indeed! :)

Nandicta, I love your French! :)
I so wish I could recap this one but I'm not even sure that I 'll have the time to watch. ..Oh, but Cristian de la Fuente. .. talk about being torn.
I see that Fridays are open so I can give it a try every other week, use the weekend as a bumper. I just can't say no to this guy.
So count me in for Fridays every 2 weeks and let's get this party started.

-- Adriana: Thank you so much for offering to take every other Friday! I'll share with you until somebody else kindly volunteers to alternate Fridays with you. As you rightly pointed out, we can't say no to Cristián! ;) You wanna take the first Friday?

By the way, I offered BlogMom to take the premiere, so if someone wants to volunteer to recap the Tuesday spot, you don't have to worry about recapping Episode 1, that's already covered. Cheers, pals.

By accident I deleted a comment from CountXAlacran this is that he said:

Nandicta , oh thank Lucifer for sparing us El Lazos. I adore Boyer and Rulli but just loathe Zepeda in everything besides villian roles. If he is to star I desire for him to be a villian. And I don't appreaciate Angelli as everyone else. Her works are just pure circus and not meant to be taken seriously. Maybe I will catch to it to see Ana Bertha and Susie Dosamantes. I wonder who will play the uncle in this remake. As much as I love Sergio Goyri , please let it not be him. Please!! If it's Zepeda as the uncle I will atleast get spared of cancer as I will gladly skip it with sadness in my heart :(

As much as I have seen No me Dejas, I enjoyed it quite well. Ale Barros , Lety Calderon , Lisset and Peniche are fantastic but I hate Alfonso Dosal.

Would love to recap but I just don't have time to commit to it. I am looking forward to reading the recaps though.

-- CountXAlacran: Glad to know you'll be hanging out with us at the "Sueño de Amor" Patio. I've always enjoyed reading your insightful comments! :)

I haven't even seen a single promo of "A Que No Me Dejas" and I don't have the faintest idea what it's about but my friends in Mexico have been gushing over it. Besides, Leticia Calderón and Arturo Peniche in a Carlos Moreno Laguillo production is all the enticement I need to get onboard with this TN! I really hope the rumors are true and our friends in the US get "A Que No Me Dejas" as the replacement of "Pasión y Poder". I would love to watch it with my Patio Pals!

Unfortunately, we will not be spared the Angelli Nesma retelling of "Lazos de Amor". It's just been postponed and they changed its name... Again! It was "Como Tres Gotas de Agua" ("Like 3 drops of water /3 peas in a pod") then it became "Frente Al Mismo Rostro" ("Facing the same face") and now it's - buckle up for this doozy - "Tres Veces Ana" (Three times Ana), because the triplets are called Ana This, Ana That and Ana The Other! Ha!

I agree with you that Zepeda is better when he plays the main villain or a second-fiddle baddie. His face has a saurian quality that makes him delightful in mischievous roles! Boyer and Rulli on the other hand are becoming a tedious pairing in my opinion; not to mention that their acting capabilities are rather limited. I know that they have their fans and I don't mean to offend anyone but they just don't do it for me, individually or together (Sorry!). Ana Bertha Espín is a great veteran actress but, depending on how she is directed, she can also be an absolute nightmare of overacting! I don't know if you saw "Soy Tu Dueña" but she was so screechy and over-the-top in that one, it was just horrendous!

The actor playing the triplets' uncle in this new version is unknown to me. Maybe you've heard of him before: Argentinian actor/model Ramiro Fumazoni. Again, not to be a party-pooper but the great Otto Sirgo played this role in the original and he was paired with Mariana Karr, Tía Isabel in "Alborada", whose legendary interjection "Caray Caray!" inspired the name of this wonderful blog!

Anyhoo, I just hope that this delay in production inspires Angelli Nesma and her team to do a better job or, at the very least, to lessen the massacre of the original. Not that the original was that great to begin with but it had a fantabulous cast (and Carla Estrada as executive producer). I hope the end result is an enjoyable TN for the fans of Boyer, Rulli and/or Zepeda.

Hopefully, catch you "mañana" for the premiere of "Sueño de Amor"!

-- Jane: Thank you for updating the side-bar! Much appreciated :)

I'll do Thursday's recap as well and, with Adriana kindly offering to join the recapping team, we got this semana de estreno covered. Hopefully as next week rolls in, there would be more volunteers.

Here is a segment with the "Sueño de Amor" main cast in "Despierta América", where Betty Monroe and Cristián de la Fuente are serving coffee and snacks on the set: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FG450kdKJ3A

Nandicta, I will do this Friday's episode (the third one, right?), no problem!
If taking on every other Friday will become too much for you and there are no other volunteers, we could just put up a discussion page or bullet points to have the episode covered.

And let me just warn everybody: I will be gushing over Cristian de la Fuente a lot, so if any non fanatics of his are watching this, be prepared to skip most of my recaps. :)

-- Adriana: This Friday they'll be showing Episode 4 actually ("Sueño de Amor" will not be preempted on Wednesday to show the Democratic Debate).

As for gushing over Cristián, well, just gush away, my friend! I'll be doing the same. The fans will love it and the not-so-fans will get a good laugh out of it :D

Nandicta: This is an quite odd choice for the uncle role. The actor is 41 years old but Rulli and Zepeda are also in their 40's with Boyer being 25. He also looks awfully young and hot for his age. I wonder how will they make him appear older and more "paternal" . I am fetting more and more inclined to watch the original version which always results to be a better experience. I mean I do find Angelli's works fun to watch ( Mostly because I stick with actors like Rulli, Boyer and Avila. Speaking of Avila, I don't believe that he will make it in the show due to him shooting Corazon Que Miente. Also after experiencing "better" telenovelas like Yo No Creo En Los Hombres and El Hotel de Secretos , my standards got that much higher.

-- CountxAlacran: I agree, the casting choices were odd but I hope for your sake and for the sake of other viewers who enjoy Angelli Nesma's productions that her latest work is of an acceptable standard to the fans of Boyer and/or Rulli and/or Zepeda.

And you're right, higher quality TNs are making other TN circuses and botched remakes look worse than usual.
