Pasión y Poder Martes 3/1/16 #96
Labels: poder
So thanks again. Reading your conversations, one can almost hear the inflections in the 'Witche's' voices.
With all the deceptions and subterfuge one almost needs Cliffs Notes to keep straight who's lying to who. So the whole world knows who's Franco's Father, except? Those notes would help. We are certain that this plays right into Franco's plans to 'inherit' one way or another, the GL fortune.
Who doesn't know about Franco's Dad, and would not take it well? I'm thinking that there is someone, but I can't put my finger on it/him/her. I know UA yells at me for refering to people as 'it's' in a condescending way (on purpose). :-)
Well, so now the truth about Franco being Eladio's spawn, is out in the open. Nina was at her worst last night during the foundation scene. As, were the other women, who all acted like a bunch of five year olds at the playground during recess.
Marintia nearly jumped for joy, when she found out that Eladio would take care of the baby bills.
Wow, so will Justino finally serve a purpose in all this, by revealing the truth about Franco's son?
And speaking about Justino, he pops the question, but there are no signs of a ring. Not even a bolt. What?!
Regina is ANNOYING. I've had it with her. And Jorge needs to go away!!
Yuck. So Assmore and Daniela have been sleeping together. TMI is right.
Mauricio: everyone bullying Julia at the GLA Foundation was disturbing. It was bad enough that Gaby didn't stick up for her, resulting Julia running away crying.
If Justino exposes the truth about Franco's kid, he could get whacked like Gisela, etc.,
Kirby: Purple Lips & Fanny recreating Mean Girls 3.0!
Always love D.D.'s prologues. I can imagine your alter ego smiling and discreetly lickiing his chops as he surveyed the carnage and sips his after-dinner cognac.
And loved your description of about to blow Eladio..."returned to his desk, tight as an overwound watch."
Sounds like another miserable night of people manipulating each other, lying to each other, lying to themselves, and lots of hurt, pain and betrayal being passed around. Oh my.
Well, maybe Justino and Clara will have a happy-ever-after moment amidst all the drama. We can hope.
Thanks Urban. As always, beautifully written, meticulously observed and very very D.D.!
Steve: I like your 'Mean Girls 3.0'
I wish Stupid Girls 4.6 would stomp Mean Girls 3.0's prissy plastic asses.
What doesn't a good Jello wrestling smackdown not bring to a TN?
Mean Girls 3.0 - Yes, that's exactly what it was. They all showed that they have no class.
"I have it on good authority that Erick's date was more attractive than he deserved"
Jorge's head hovering over Regina's shoulder was like her pet parrot.
SG better watch it or she will be typecast as crazylady. Roberta in La Sombre and now here she cocks her head, eyes dart and arms flap.
David crossed over from sympathetic to pathetic.
Regina's blank stare and smirk is driving me CRAZY
Nina knows about this from Regina, who didn't intend for her to use this information in any way or suspect that she would. If Eladio said anything to Nina about it, he severely underestimated Nina's evil. He is now far less likely to trust her and more likely to try to screw her out of anything she might get out of the divorce.
His shrink might suggest that he could have done this as an expression of a subconscious wish to get it over with because it's one of the biggest things hanging over his head.
There are still other secrets of Eladio's that we don't know about, so here's some food for thought:
Neither Arturo nor Eladio are 60 yet; I'm guessing both are meant to be about 50 (FC's 50th birthday is tomorrow). Arturo's mansion was inherited while Eladio had his built as a wedding gift to Julia. That could not have been a very long time after his dismissal from GM and a corporation of this kind isn't built in a day, a year, or even five years. If Eladio didn't embezzle a serious sum of money from GM or kill Mr Schmidt to get his money, how else could he have afforded the mansion and pay off Humberto's gambling debts?
Consuelo's (from most people): Prostitute mother/raised in a brothel before being in the orphanage Revealed

-- New (from everyone): Bribing of witness to not identify Erick the night that Orkin came to call Erick now knows but not the details; that Humberto told him that Franco was Eladio's bastard.

Humberto: That he told Arturo about Franco.
Eladio/Gisela (from everyone): That Franco is Eladio's illegitimate son Revealed; by the time you read this it will be on the 6 o'clock news.
Gisela (from Caridad): That she sold Franco to Eladio for a monthly allowance Revealed
Monserrat (from Eladio): That she was cheating on him with Chimp Boy. This is probably what got her offed. Revealed
Eladio (from Julia): All his affairs and crooked deals (she now knows about the first but not the second) Some secrets still pending
New: His entire past

New (from Julia): That he knew six months before the wedding that he is Eladio's son; his hiring of thugs to cut the brakes of Erick's car (same thug as the one who beat him); tried selling GLA out to Arturo (but got caught); bribing Angeles for inside info on GM (possibly known to Eladio but no one else)
Maribel: That she was dying (known only to Clara) Resolved
Clara (unknown to everyone, including her): Origin
Daniela (from everyone except Nina and Erick):: That she is boinking Assmore but Augustin is suspicious; Status quo
Nina: Details of her past beyond her brief acting career.
Marintia (known only to Eladio and Caridad): Pregnancy; (known only to Caridad): Present location.
Angeles (known only to Franco, but possibly suspected by Eladio): That she is selling out GM to Franco
Revised 3/2/16 following episode 96
I just had to chime in and agree with Tofie that David went from sympathetic to pathetic. I hate that. Not as much as I hate Regina cold arse. I will never like her no matter what. Its pretty bad that I am even hoping David will give the time of day to Daniela just to hurt Regina. I feel like a mean girl too, but don't care.
Humberto is a trip! I am beginning to like Justino more.
Leticia
David has been irrational about Franco, who was an innocent in the nasty deception Eladio played on Julia. What should happen now is Julia divorcing Eladio and taking him to the cleaners over the latest result of this deception. She can then do what she wants with the spoils of that battle. She can put aside money for Humberto's medical bills (if she wants to), give David money or put it in trust for him, and donate the rest to charity if she chooses.
Tofie, loved the pet parrot image. Parrots are smart birds but they can be annoying.
Where's Anita? We need to market an Humberto (In)Action Figure, complete with cozy sweaters and little grey flannel suits plus accessories (brandy snifters, fake oxygen tank and nasal cannula, racing forms and exploding cigars). I am loving the disconnect between the inoffensive appearance (old, vulnerable, sweet) and the pure selfishness that underlies that innocent surface. It must be hard for the actors not to giggle during his scenes.
Regina's blank stare and smirk is driving me CRAZY
It's driving me CRAZY too. UGH!
David needs to STOP insisting and just give up. Regina is NOT worth it. He deserves better.
Great makeup job on Luis Bayardo, who looks older now than in his early episodes.
Tofie, I still disagree with you. The only thing stable about Daniela is her predictable behavior. The major difference between her and Regina is that Daniela is always out to hurt Regina while Regina only ends up hurting herself.
You are unto something.....that Regina is too much like David's mother. I have heard that sometimes men, as well as women are drawn to partners with semblances to one of their parents.
Leticia
Tofie, there is nothing "stable" about Daniela. That's not the same thing as "predictable." We can safely predict that she will do more to hurt Regina before the finale of this tale. This is based on an emotional instability that is enabled by Nina, who allowed her to escape talk therapy and even encouraged her to do bad things. That she hasn't screwed up at work yet is only due to the iron-clad terms of Eladio's contract with its morals clause and his no-fraternization company policy. The second she begins chasing David again she's done for.
Leticia
Oh,I also saw the double date from hell.
As to whether he will spill, let's see. It would take at least two episodes for him to talk to Clara who will talk to Consuelo, who might tell Regina, who will ultimately tell David. However, if he talks to Caridad first he will be silenced temporarily, which will give Eladio time to think about how to handle his part of the bargain with Caridad.
Since the cat is out of the bag about Eladio being Franco's sperm donor I don't think Eladio has any choice now other than to acknowledge him. If this were taking place prior to 1995 he could get away with denials, but DNA trumps everything now in these situations. Franco is also in the same boat. The issue now is whether Eladio could make his support of Marintia and the baby conditional on her silence about the baby's origin and her promise never to return to Mexico.
Mauricio: "Wow, so will Justino finally serve a purpose in all this, by revealing the truth about Franco's son?" I had the exact same thoughts, and almost the same words--tee hee.
UA--Follow up to your, "Franco probably will accuse Justino, but without thinking it through. How would that info get from Justino to Nina, especially overnight?" You were really thinking that it was the Martinia-Franco baby news he overheard. I don't think there was any intention of Justino going to Nina's house with Francofurter news, since by then everybody knew. Can't wait to find out if Serves-His-Purpose-Justino will runtelldat to Clara first.
Julia is not playing the hand of cards she was dealt very well. She's sinking lower into the stinkin' mess.
Tofie: I had to laugh, seriously, about Jorge as a pet parrot. Anything to bring in a Pirate theme for Susanlynn.
Now, I return to the 6 o'clock news and most of the news that's not fit to print, but will be oft repeated.
Sorry for pointing it out before finishing the comments. I see you caught your Franco vs. Franco baby slip. It happens to all of us.
Hummy's Hummer Chair. I will assume that Eladio's fancy offices have at least one elevator for people with disabilities. But at Arturo's humongous ground floor office, there is a large step DOWN, just as you open the office doors. (I worry about everyone when they come in or out tripping, I really do. I watch, then I miss some of the action. Safety First.) Ok, I can see Hummy bumping down to get into Artie's office, but how on earth did he get out? He can't. So we adjust our beanies and go with a MagLev button on his Hummer Chair.
One of the issues about the Old Money crowd is their public concealment of their real emotions. There is so much concern about Saving Face that they could end up not recognizing their own feelings after a while. Julia has had more than her share of this because of an abusive father and an abusive husband. She has masqueraded as the Perfect Daughter and Perfect Wife so long she hasn't had time to even sort it all out. She's now facing so many changes in her life that it's become overwhelming. She not only needs to be away from Eladio and Arturo, she needs to be away from Humberto, who started this whole mess.
Anita, just caught your latest. I can picture Arturo's office having another exit we don't see. It's so large it would make no sense not to have one.
I wish offices in NYC were still that size.
I have a hard enough time trying to identify all the kitschy knick knacks behind Eladio's desk at the office and at home. Some are a hoot, including a chrome Troll Doll and the set of 100 Record Covers.
And the Books...as a retired librarian, I'm always trying to find out what books are of interest to these folks. A lot of them look suspiciously like random, partial sets of legal treatises and old superseded code books (the blue ones sure look like the old D.C. Code).
And, some of books in Julia's Foundation office look like discarded library books, with the labels still on them. What's funny is that one set is half right side up and the other half upside down. I wish they would hire me as a book consultant and reshelver.
Urban, this was again, exceptional. I also don't understand how you manage to translate the dialog so perfectly, but thank you so very much.
"While Eladio had no problem seeing his errors from an intellectual perspective, he still could not allow himself to hear this from the people he had most grievously harmed". Astute and just perfectly phrased.
I feel as though I am at a ping pong match and the verbal insults are flying faster and harder with each successive swing.
The thing that stayed with me was how well Franco is mimicking Eladio's facial expressions and movements. The actor who plays Franco is very handsome and would make a good galan in the future.
I am truly crazed here at work today so will need to read the comments later.
Urban, thank you!
Diana
He returned to his desk tight as an overwound watch.
She told Nina to calm down. She should have also told her not to wear fur to the event.
Wow! Good girl Nina ( It has been generally accepted that Nina is the good girl right?) really took it to Julia last night at the foundation. What a pounding Julia took. With all that has been going on and throw in Humberto on top of it all, I'm surprised that Julia still has her senses about her.
Maurico---Gaby chooses to back up that lowlife. We know that Franco is scum in an expensive suit but Gaby doesn't know that. She wants to stand by her man although she is starting to get suspicious of his lying.
Near worthless shares for Humberto. Good! I'm laughing. Can't wait for him to discover that he has or will have been duped.
Tofie---LOL Jorge as Regina's pet parrot.
Looks like a lot will be happening tonight. I can't wait.

"A lot of them look suspiciously like random, partial sets of legal treatises and old superseded code books (the blue ones sure look like the old D.C. Code)".
What an incredible eye for detail you have!
Diana
So I guess it's fine for Chimp Boy to go out clubbing with his compadre-to-be, huh?
”I hope Franco is happy because now the whole world knows he's a Gómez-Luna.”
Of course Julia would be mortified about the Ladies that Lunch openly dissing her at her own foundation about something so personal, but blaming Franco for it to Gaby was insensitive too.
Poor Gaby. She’s not happy with Franco, but she’s not ready to admit that to herself just yet. Her going off on Dani for flirting with him was downright embarrassing.
So what was Justino doing at Franco’s house anyway? Was that bad editing or what?
Tofie, Jorge as Regina's parrot -- well said. Up till now, I thought he had possibilities. But he's annoying.
It’s incredulous that Arturo and Agustín so carelessly prepare to hide assets on his Financial Affidavit, there are serious consequences to perjury during court proceedings, even with ordinary divorces. The strangest part is that Arturo is filing in the US, maybe he can get away with misconduct in Mexico like Erik’s murder grand jury, or what ever that was, but he is unlikely to hide vast holding with the NYC lawyers they’ll need with this case. Arturo has been scurrying along on the low road for years, I’m hoping he’ll move toward the light, but doubt he can, he has been operating underhandedly too long, he has become una rata sin alma.
Tofie, I feel like you do about Daniela, I hope she’s able to “straighten up and fly right.” Daniela, sadly, has the insecurities of an addictive personality, she is operating like most addicts with an inherited inner pain, she’s beautiful, but chemical imbalances prevent her from having the confidence of her beauty. Her sister Regina is strong and doesn’t have the curse of addiction, yet even so, first she’s mean to David, then kisses him......... “a yoyo.” I don’t want Daniela want hit rock bottom, but that might be the thing that saves her, certainly Assmore isn’t the answer.
On David, like Kirbo said many episodes ago, he needs to realize that there are many more “fish in the sea.” Move on David, it is so painful to watch your out of control desperation.
So what was Justino doing at Franco’s house anyway? Was that bad editing or what?
The day before, Franco had ordered Justino to do some work at his and Gaby's new penthouse apartment.
Back during YNCELH the issue of life insurance payout came up. I finally found a source that said that a policy can pay out in the case of suicide if that takes place two (or three) years after the policy takes effect. Even in that situation, the payout doesn't happen right off the bat because the insurance company would do a thorough investigation.
It could be possible that hiding assets might have a similar deadline if, for example, it's done six months or a year before filing the divorce petition. I'm sure if there are such laws they also vary by state within the US and in Mexico.
NovelaMaven, isn't this the extra house because the penthouse isn't ready yet?
Meanwhile, Anita will consider opening the PyP Kitsch Korner (of tasty and tasteless Junk and Collectibles) from stuff in the G-L offices. Please contribute. Your entries will be collected and bound up in a lovely catalog at the end of the run. All proceeds will be donated to Julia's Foundation (just to make it legit).
So Far we have:
Chrome Troll Doll
100 Record Covers
Stylized early 20th Century Shirt Collars
How much translation do you need for you to keep watching undershirted Jorge and blue-eyed Horacio and cute as a bugs ear Paulina? I just binge re-watched the first four episodes on OnDemand and can do a quick once over for you.
"One thing that I saw behind Eladio's desk or somewhere nearby was a glass/plastic case with two white shirt collars in it. I didn't know why or for what reason they were on the shelf in his office."
I have noticed that too. It made me think back to the discussion about how Eladio ties his tie and made me think that maybe he uses that to practice the art of how to tie a tie. LOL
Thanks for this elaborately detailed narrative of last night's goings on. Well told.
One thing I can't abide is rudeness and bad manners. Last night Nina was boorish and extremely unseemly. She should be ashamed of herself for the way she behaved toward Julia. The acceptable thing would have been for her to quietly stand up and gracefully leave. Up until then she occupied the high ground. She's still the harmed party but her persona is now tarnished. Please, a little dignity pretty lady.
As for Arturo signing over worthless pharmaceutical shares to Humberto, I don't see what he thinks that he accomplishes by this, maybe one of you who is more astute in business matters can explain this to me, but I do see a potential for rich irony... Say what if this company stumbles upon a breakthrough treatment for restless leg syndrome or menopausal hot flashes, shazam, the stock soars and suddenly our favorite senior citizen is impossibly rich and can buy his own racetrack as well as a casino. Then the Humberto Table will open up and there'll be drinks for everyone.
Carlos
"It could be possible that hiding assets might have a similar deadline..."
You're joking right? Hiding assets to shelter them from divorce proceeding is illegal no matter when it's done.
Carlos
As for Nina, remember that beauty does not equal goodness and is often (incorrectly) equated with a lack of intelligence in women. Here she tipped her hand and forgot that Old Money and the outsiders who are accepted need to be both polite and discreet.
While we have no real information about Fanny, I am guessing that she is a Nina past her prime. She seems to be the only woman who bothers much with Nina so I doubt she is Old Money herself.
I'm having a sad (as Sara would say) because I like David. But his behavior last night was cringe worthy and unfortunately for him, Regina is not worth it.
Mauricio, you have good eyes. I missed the MM on Eladio's bookcase. I'll be watching for it from now on.
Please don't think for a minute that I'm abandoning Nina, I'm simply calling a ♤ a ♤. Like you, I'm also disappointed in her support of Erick in his effort to take Infanterick away from Coni. It is important to note, however, that she is a woman scorned and you know what they say about those folks.
Carlos
Your pet parrot sure tempts me to get in trouble, thinking of all the plays on words with Polly want a Cracker. Um David want to too.
Mauricio said:"Mickey Mouse figurine. It caught my eye the other night and since then I have also been trying"...I was waiting for you to say 'to place a bid on it if the old boy doesn't make it and it is not damaged in the fire'. IE: I hope Hummerchair is equipped with Lithium batts.
