Pasion y Poder #124, Art is a Liar Who Likes to Tell Lies! Wednesday, 4/13/16

Franco visits Marintia and Mateo. He tells her about Julia forgiving him and how much he hates Julia. He wants to get close to Julia to make sure that she and Eladio don't get back together. Franco says he needs to call Gaby to thank her for forgiving him before he can have sex with Marintia. What a gentleman!
Eladio tells Julia not to look at him like that. He knows what he is saying sounds crazy but he knows things aren't like that ("that" being the idea that he and Julia would one day be together again) because Julia is back with Art. The difference now is that Eladio accepts it. He is determined to go on with his life even though he knows he will never be able to forget Julia. Julia seems confused saying, "You are never going to forget me?" She doesn't understand how Eladio can say that if he is with Nina. Eladio doesn't go into details, only saying that he and Nina are just friends. Even though Julia is uncomfortable talking about it she tells Eladio that she knows something happened between him and Nina, so she doesn't understand how he can say that they are just friends. (I guess she's never heard about friends with benefits) Eladio tells Julia that the important thing is that he could never fall in love with Nina. He just wants Julia to know that anything you don't do for love can only be out of desire or spite, a story he and Julia know too well. Julia wants to know if they (Eladio and Nina) did it just to bother her and Art. Eladio says at this point it's a very thin line between what's right and what's wrong. He wants her to know that he will keep their rings just in case they have another chance to be together. Julia seems to like what she is hearing until she hears Caridad calling out for Eladio. Caridad apologizes for interrupting, but does not leave. Instead Julia leaves and Eladio gives Caridad a "looks could kill" look.
In Monterrey Regina and Jorge talk. She is honest with him -upon his request- about how she is feeling being in the same town where she spent so much time being happy with David. Jorge is happy to be there because it is where he met up with Regina again. Regina feels bad for being honest. Jorge convinces her that they will make memories together. David is alone in his room remembering his time with Regina in Monterrey. He gets a call from Dani. They have plans to take a trip to Paris. She tells him that she loves him and that his love is the only thing that gives her the strength to move forward. He tells her to be strong and sends her a kiss.
Art gives Auggie the recording where Franco tries to bribe Art. Auggie plans on giving it to Gaby.
Gaby thanks Julia for accepting Franco. Julia tells her that Eladio plans on giving Franco his last name. Gaby says now Franco will change. Julia wants to know what Gaby means by change.
Eladio tells Caridad that he is going to give his name to Franco but tells her not to tell him yet. She thanks him way too much.
Julia tells Gaby that she is thinking about Eladio. He told her that he and Nina are only friends. She gets teary eyed and choked up when she tells Gaby that Eladio is carrying around their wedding rings in case they get back together. Simona interrupts that Art is waiting downstairs.
Back to Monterrey, Regina and Jorge are eating. David sits at a table alone. Jorge wants to invite him over, but Regina says no. Jorge surprises Regina with balloons, a cake and a serenata to celebrate they have been together either a month or a couple months. David wishes them well and leaves. Regina tries to look happy, NOT!

Julia and Art are having lunch and talk about Dani and David. Art thinks Julia should keep her distance from Franco.
Franco gets pissed because he thinks that Julia got close to him only because she knows that Eladio is going to give him the GL name and she wanted to look goof in Eladio's eyes.
Julia does not want to talk about Eladio. Art tells Julia that he went to see Eladio to thank him for helping Dani, but then Eladio starting provoking him (LIE!). Julia can't believe it (because it's a lie!). Art tells her that Eladio told him that Julia grew to love him very much (TRUE) and that Eladio is going to do whatever it takes to get Julia back just to show Art that he is better than him (LIE!). Art is a big fat liar that lies!
Franco repeats that Julia is a hypocrite.
Julia wants to know if Eladio really said that. Art says it's not verbatim, but almost the same thing. Julia thinks they are treating her like an object. Art says he is not doing that but Eladio is (LIE!). Julia wants to leave and Art remembers that she used to do the same thing when they were young and dating. She would want to leave when something bothered her. He invites her to go out that evening, Bla, bla, bla.....
Regina thanks Jorge for the surprise, FF>>
Art tells Auggie about his plans with Julia for the evening, the theater and dinner. Art calls Dani. She cuts it short on the phone, but not before Art starts acting selfish again with her. Auggie suggests that Art leave Julia to show Dani that he loves her, but then remembers that Art wouldn't even do that for Regina. Auggie doesn't understand how Julia's love for Art grew overnight. Art says Julia never stopped loving him. Auggie asks if he is sure about that. Art leaves.
Obdulio and Petra talk about the Montenegros history. Petra finds out that it was Obdulio who let Assmore in the house.
Hummy tells Julia that he invited Gaby and Franco to dinner. Julia leaves to go out with Art. Gaby and Franco go check on dinner and left alone Hummy makes an anonymous phone call to tell someone what theater Julia will be in. WTH?!?
David calls Eladio to tell him about the hotel. When he hangs up with his father he looks at photos of Dani on his phone and wanders why he can't love her like he loves Regina.
Franco and Hummy have a chat. Hummy warns Franco not to get too comfortable. When Gaby comes in Hummy asks about the factory. Gaby tells him Franco had to sell it. Hummy wants to know for how much. Franco and Gaby prefer not to tell him. Gaby leaves. Franco and Hummy warn each other to be careful what they do.
Art and Julia arrive at the theater and sit at a table. Art sweet talks her and goes in for a kiss. A photographer at the bar takes pictures of them kissing.
In Monterrey Jorge brings Regina breakfast, waffles! She thinks that Jorge is going to get tired of waiting for her (to have sex). He assures her that he knows what he's doing. Jorge leaves. Regina tries to convince herself that she will forget David.
GM is having a shareholders meeting. Nine people are present including Art (who is also representing Auggie, Connie and EJ, who are absent), Erick, Miguel, and Nina (also representing Regina and Dani, who are absent).

At the end of the shareholders meeting Nina wants to know if her proposal will be approved. Art rejects it and Miguel wants to know why. Art puts it up to a vote. Chimp boy sides with Art and Miguel sides with Nina. Miguel reminds Art that he(Miguel) is the majority shareholder after his father.
In Monterrey there is some kind of mechanical problem and David gets pissed and blames Jorge. Regina comes in and tries to calm David down. Jorge and Amelia go to fix the problem. Regina warns David not to yell at Jorge.
Art tells Miguel that he can't vote in Nina's favor. Miguel doesn't see why not. The vote goes Nina's way and Art is pissed. He tells Miguel that he doesn't know what he's doing because Eladio is behind this proposal.
Franco wants to know why Eladio changed his mind about giving him his name. Eladio says it doesn't matter. What's important now is that he will be a Gomez Luna, and it will only take five days. Franco thanks Eladio.
Chimp boy and Art warn Nina about partnering with Eladio. Nina tells her chimp son that he can't give his opinion on the proposal because he probably didn't even read all of it. Chimp boy gets mad at Miguel for siding with Nina and making him look bad. Miguel says it's just about what's best for the company. Art gives Miguel the death stare.
Auggie and Gaby are having lunch. She tells him that Franco is hurt because his father has not recognized him. She is basically making up excuses for her no good husband. He asks if she is going to trust him again. She tells him that Franco is sorry and knows what he did was wrong and that he asked for her forgiveness. Auggie asks if that's enough. She says no, but that Franco gave her the money from the sale of the factory, and he asked for another opportunity. She's going to give it to him because he is her husband. He sold the factory for her own good and the factory was bankrupt. Auggie shows her a zip drive and tells her that it has a recording of Franco trying to blackmail Art.

This show still has the ability to startle, even at this late date. Nina's composure and business savvy came into play quite quickly. Eladio's recognition of her business acumen was spot on.
Miguel siding with Nina was a fast ball I never saw coming. Nina appeared to be regarding him with new respect. As was I.
I was a bit disappointed in Arturo. He has "won" for the moment, but it is not enough. He has to rub salt in the proverbial wound by lying to Julia about his conversation with Art (as you noted). "Art says Julia never stopped loving him. Auggie asks if he is sure about that". Thankfully, Augustin tries to bring Arturo down from his amazingly inaccurate sense of reality, but it doesn't appear to be sinking in!
Interestingly, both brothers seem to blame Julia rather than Eladio for their problems. Instead of championing his mother who did everything for him, David prefers to think she is guilty of ending her marriage to Eladio, despite the many years of fear and abuse. Franco blames Julia for turning Eladio against him. The sad truth is that Eladio was never "for" him.
Too much Regina and David last night. Yearning looks and sadness. We get it.
Augustin did the right thing by giving Gaby the evidence. I fervently hope she watches it. I suspect his downfall will begin prior to his coronation as a Gomez Luna.

As a registered Nina hater, even I must admit she cleans up pretty well. Sitting down, not speaking too much, dressed less hookerish than usual, and with pounds less garish hooker war paint on, she was bearable in the board room.
I have to wonder, where does one cross the line between a bit of harmless believing what you want to believe, and clinically not in touch with reality? I think Farturo's toes are on that line. YIKES !

Gracias, AuntyAnn. I was having playback problems yesterday and missed some dialogue in Franco's scenes. Can we ever figure out when he's lying or how much he believes his own lies?
Caridad should be wondering about that because she is a victim. She shouldn't forget how he treated her at the original revelation. She should have a clue that Eladio doesn't want her. Caridad thanks him far too much is right on the money. She is too blind with him.
Was there a camera on Franco when he was in Arturo's office? I thought that was only an audio recording, but if it's a video so much the better. Gabriela could not be in denial after that. Naturally this could provoke an explosion between Eladio and Arturo but Eladio is in no position to feel righteous about it since he is the one guilty of corporate espionage. Arturo never played that game against him.
As to Arturo's rejection of Nina's business proposal he had every reason to think Eladio had something to do with it no matter what we know.
As I said yesterday, Franco's infidelity to Gabriela will be the last straw for Julia. It will feel like an even bigger insult after their "reconciliation" the other day. Gabriela will come running back to Julia, Humberto will go on the warpath, followed by Eladio. That it will take five days for Franco's new status to become official is significant because it could mean that Eladio will learn this before that deadline and cause him to call his lawyer.
Was there a question at the signing about proof of paternity? Maybe I should watch this episode again.

Daniela was her mother's favorite at Regina's expense and she wants now to replace Regina as Arturo's favorite? What a selfish little female dog she is.
David has realized that he will never love Daniela as he does Regina. Well, this could be too late because if Daniela crashes and burns permanently he will end up blaming himself.

Urban, I have read several of your unvarnished summaries about Daniela and could not agree more. A few points:
1. Just because you have made self destructive choices in pursuit of selfish evil endeavors does not make you a victim deserving of unlimited sympathy.
2. With regard to #1., continued behavior does not entitle you to even more undeserved sympathy / preferential treatment.
3. Your being on a self induced downward spiral does not guarantee that you have changed, or have any intention of changing, your ways.
4 . While speaking of spinning, if another person gets too close to your vortex, they will most probably be sucked down the tube also rather than retrieve you.

This is true. David's current commitment to Daniela -- to be there for her -- is going to end up hurting him in the long term.
That she is in this facility where her visitor list will be restricted is a good thing. The female administrator who was supervising her phone calls yesterday already looks fed up with our little Drama Queen. I wonder whether Assmore will try to bribe his way into there or try to bust her out for further revenge.

It is obvious that the show's writers want to rehabilitate Eladio, but they made such great effort to cast him in a negative light at the beginning of the telenovela that whatever he does or says now to others seems very calculated and not honest.
I will be somewhat disappointed if at the end, Julia and Eladio reconcile. However, the other alternative is that she hook up with Arturo. But this also isn't a good choice since Arturo is delusional and oblivious to the fact that Julia doesn't truly love him as much as she does Eladio.
Perhaps the best choice for Julia would be for Art and Eladio to remain close friends, but not a spouse.

I'm guessing that Humberto wants to put the last nail in the coffin of the Gomez-Luna marriage so that Julia will be guaranteed to end up with Arturo and Arturo will pay him a large cash settlement.
However, Humberto is just as much to blame for everything that's happened to Julia as anyone else, so this should not work. I think he should die before that and last night it looked like Franco is eager to finish him off (since Humberto has now outlived his usefulness to him). Villains typically fall in ascending order of the level of evil and/or number of their deeds, so Eladio will fall last. I don't know which of Franco or Erick will fall before the other but they are about equal at the moment. It's hard to measure this because there are relatively few crimes here that can land people in prison.

Nina hasn't sold her shares or has only sold a small percentage. She may still have the idea about getting the controlling interest of GM although she must realize that this can't happen overnight.
She might get Erick's shares after he ends up dead or in the slammer, but we don't know how much that is. She has definitely realized that he isn't the genius she wished he were.
Writers never include time deadlines unless they mean something. The "five days" statement with only 13 remaining broadcast hours (2-hour finale) means that there will be about 8 hours left for all the anvils to be put in place and allow time for Assmore, Daniela, Erick, Franco, and Eladio to start dodging them.

I think she's getting it now with:

Nina hasn't really "done" anything to warrant criminal or death punishment. She hasn't done anything illegal. She doesn't have to die to keep the house because Arturo gave her the house. Her husband threw her away after a 25 year marriage. She was a terrible mother but is being repaid for that by having 2 of her 3 kids end up murderers/thieves and strung out on drugs. She supports Erick taking EJ away from Connie but I have a feeling Nina will end up advocating for Connie to get EJ back. Nina really hasn't done anything wrong by supporting Erick taking the kid away from Connie (or using a hookup to do it), most mothers are going to support THEIR child in a child custody case.
I think Nina's anvil will be to have Erick and Daniela die or be incarcerated, and have Miguel raise her grandson.
The only way David & Regina will be able to get together is if Daniela is permanently out of the picture and Assmore will have a hand in that.

Franco threw a check at her after she told him that she wanted the proceeds of the sale but how does she know if the amount that he gave her is the correct amount---she trusts him. Does the term dumb blonde only apply to blonds? I don't know if the flash drive that Augie gave her will be enough to sway her opinion about her Francofurter. Remember that he's a slick talker and she is as dumb as a bag of rocks, a pretty bag of rocks but still.

Whatever happened to "I want to be alone for awhile"? Arturo reminds me of a vieja chismosa, an old lady gossip. And no, I'm not being agist or sexist because I'm not talking in general terms, I actually have a specific vieja chismosa in mind. My granny, may she rest in peace, had this old neighbor lady who spent her days at her balcony gathering gossip that she later disseminated all over the neighborhood, adding her own malicious pinch of salt to sow discord. People who already knew her were virtually immune to her malevolence, but the new residents always got burned the first few months. The neighborhood called this vieja chismosa "Reuters". Arturo acts a bit like this "Reuters" lady, spending his days maliciously chismeando, because he has nothing better to do. It's not like he has a murderer/rapist son on the loose, or a drug addict daughter in rehab or a business conglomerate to take care of.
LOL moment of the night: The paparazzo who took photos of Arturo and Julia was so obvious, he might as well have sat in their lap! How clueless are these two?
Also, when is Gabi's brain gonna get reactivated? Really, I worry for the health of this poor gullible galoot. This much stoopidity is not normal; it could actually be lethal!

I don't see what Hummy gets with sending a reporter to take photos of Julia and Arturo. It's not like Eladio doesn't know that Julia and Arturo are dating.

What is the name of the actress playing the role of "Ana" at the rehab center? She is the one monitoring Daniela when she is talking to Arturo on the telephone. I think she is very beautiful.
Ah I don't think Jorge is a social climber. He is just delusional. He has had a crush on Reg from the beginning, has waited this long to be with her so doesn't see waiting longer as a problem. Poor sap is going to be devastated when Reg leaves him for David after Dani somehow dies.

Art lays it on thick with Julia because he knows it works. She was ready to go home and all he had to do is remind her she was pretty and she was good to go. He even told her that is what he did 20 years ago and she still fell for it. Want to really confuse Julia and wreck Art's plan. Have the cable guy, a barista and a hobo tell her she's pretty and she'll have no idea who to date.
Dear Mauricio and Kirbo: there is no need to insult pigs as they are nice animals and have many redeeming qualities. Unlike Franco. I like to think of Franco as a troll, or something like that that does not really exist in our universe.

As regards your question about the incriminating evidence against Franco, Arturo never set up a camera. It was only an audio recording. However, Franco's voice has a self-entitled whine that is just unmistakable. Now if only Gabi has the good sense to listen to that recording...

Thank you AuntyAnn! What a fun recap and you are so right, Arturo is the lyingest liar...and I agree with Nandicata, he comes of like a chismoso. Pathetic and desperate is not a good look on you Arturo. The writers failed big time with this character and I call BS that he really knows anything about business he can't even catch a clue that the woman he's been chasing pines for her ex husband and is still very much connected to him. I'm not sure how Arturo has become this rich business magent, he really comes off as a stupid, immature clod. No growth whatsoever with him. FAIL.
Meanwhile I see Nina who has become much more intriguing after being kicked to the curb by Arturo. She is blossoming into a much more compassionate and introspective person and mother. Whatever her sins, she seems to be coming to terms with her wrongs and owning them. It's not an overnight process and much like Eladio, she remains flawed, but her character is drawing emotion from me. I find myself rooting for her along with Eladio to get their happiness and to be the better people they clearly want to be.
Miguel, wow what a curveball. I found myself actually clapping for him. Interesting that when he is not cooing or fawning over Consuelo I am interested in him. The character needs to stand alone and not be about anything other than himself. I think the writers did a huge disservice to him and should have showed the slow transformation of Miguel from a shy, awkward young man into a savvy, business man that could actually rival his father. That would d have been far more interesting to me. Instead we had wasted eps on the failures of chimp boy and the two fighting over Consoleme.
Caridad is like a hemorroihd , just there annoying and hanging around. I think she needed to be lanced off instead of her mother. The chick is pointless and just there to irritate Eladio, Julia, Gaby and even her own son. She keeps saying she doesn't mean to interrupt, but that's her exact intention to interrupt everyone in their life. She is a nasty little pothole. I at least enjoyed her mother and her antics.
Jorge is as stupid as Arturo. He's sitting right there in front of Regina, seeing the pained expressions on her face as he whines and dines her, knowing full well it's David she is wanting to be with. I can't even feel sorry for him.
My heart still tugs for Dani. Art doesn't seem to have a clue about what his daughter needs and I loved Auggie throwing cold water on Art, reminding him of his selfishness when it comes to his daughter. Art may say he's about his kids, but he's really all about himself and winning Julia no matter what it costs him. It's going to cost Art... big time. Dani and Erick are both headed for disaster.
Franco is a psychopath. He feels nothing and is attached to nothing. I think giving him the Gomez-Luna name is going to be a bad decision for Eladio. Franco was just given the keys to the kingdom.
I can't wait for Gaby to learn the truth and slap the taste out of Franco's mouth and then slap his equally duplicitous metiche mother.

In the beginning Gaby showed some spirit and told Franco she wasn't like her aunt and wouldn't take abuse. Problem is she has been gormless pretty much since. I'm not sure she has the cajones to even hurt Franco wants she finds out the truth.

Agree, Art knows Julia is just not into him. Otherwise, he wouldn't need to lie and manipulate her and keep provoking Eladio. But he has lost too much and is too invested to turn back now.

Thanks for the recap Aunty Ann. Loved the title. Our saintly Arturo was certainly spinning some big ones last night. And alas, our credulous Julia was eating them up. Enjoyed Nina's little triumph at the business conference table. But also enjoyed her stunned surprise at Miguel's support. Trust ol' Erick to find a sinister reason for it.

Ape Child didn't side with Nina either because
1. he believes that Eladio is trying to wiggle into GM an/or
2. he is making a show of siding with his father or
3. he thinks he is entitled to all of GM as soon as he can make a play for it. (This is a guaranteed fail).
Ape Child is far less intelligent than Francostein.
I realize now that David's comparative mental health probably means that he spent a lot of his higher education away from the mansion. Franco went to college closer to home and worked party-time at GLA. Ape Child and his sisters went to college close to home because Nina wanted them at home. Not sure about Miguel.
