Pasión y Poder Episode #116 Friday, April 1st 2016 While Julia has a jealous snit, Erick gets busted, and Petra may finally get some romance.
Labels: poder
Oh boy, Franco getting sloppy talking about his white collar crime, and is now going to be observed closely by Justno. I hope Franco doesn't disappear Justino cause he has grown on me and it would be so terrible for Luisita and Clara.
Leticia
Whoa..Yo Ho Ho. One or two brain cells must have migrated from 'down there' back up to
Arturo's brain where they belonged all along. Got a second opinion on Chimpolito's supposed brain.
Viola ! It is there, surprise, and not seriously damaged. Now lying, cheating, raping (LCR)
Chimp Boy and his Simian Doctor are both busted.
Master David just handed Art his (emotional) ass, along with his (David's) drug test results.
How many times do the results of Art's horrid (non)decisions need to whack him over the head
before he notices what's doing the whacking?
Eladio...son...look..she may not have been a fruitcake 25 years ago.
But what you Humdog and Art have put Julia through, Well it's beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
You can't win Bud, I'm sorry, you are trying.
Hmmm let's just say Love is the main course and jealousy is salt. A pinch and you've baked the perfect turkey.
Dump the whole shaker on it, and you can pitch the whole shebang in the dumpster.
OK I don't see any saw marks on Dani's skull indicating they have replaced her hard drive, so
If the new Dani is to be believed, every f'ing body on this show needs a line or two of coke and then her therapist.
Frontal Lobotomy or Bottle Infrontame?
Gotta hand it to Frankenfurter. Even with notes I can't keep up with who he has shafted
and which lie he has told to who, but he manages somehow. That will come in handy in the 'Big House'.
If he doesn't die after Gaby neuters him when she grows a pair of her own.
Oh Boo Hoo. My brother is a lying cheating rapist who hates me and ran me out of his
room because he suspects I had figured out he's a LCR. Where'd I put my Turtle, anyway?
Did my turtle bring me M&Ms or did my M&Ms bring me some turtles? Boo Hoo Boo Hoo.
This is such a darn good recap. I thought that all in all it was a rather fascinating episode that laid the groundwork for some very interesting developments and you described the proceedings perfectly as viewed through your uniquely skeptical lens and wry narration.
I especially liked the return of shamelessly overreaching thug, Pedro, but my favorite and potentially promising development is this:
"Fanny will be recommending a "mozo" to work at Casa Montenegro."
I agree with your optimistic musing:
"A possible love interest for Petra, perhaps?"
I can't wait to see who this might be.
Carlos
El hotel has set the novela bar high & PyP fails miserably.
Why Eladio would be interested in sniveling Julia is a mystery to me.
He is not much of an antagonist is he, certainly no worse than supposed good guy Arturo.
Hopefully Petra's love life will be more interesting than any we have had so far.
I can't wait until we meet this new "mozo". Petra is one of my favorites and she certainly deserves to have some romance in her life. It is also nice that she'll finally have someone to help her around the house. It's about time.
Eladio remained quiet throughout the scene, was he out of his breath spray perhaps?
Arturo shows up and Arturo enters character and pretends to bee ill.
Two good lines Mauricio.
As for this being a slow episode---None of them are slow for me, I hang on every single minute. I love this show.
Erick about to be released does not bode well for Miguel. For Erick, it is perfectly ok for him to cheat and run around whenever it suits him but Consuelo---
she had better not even look and she had dared to do more than that with a divorce and all. Erick will become a raging animal upon his release from the hospital.
Petra is a trip, I love her. She doesn't have a big part but when she's present, she steals the show. More Petra please!
Things are starting to go downhill for our young pretty boy Frankfurter. I'll bet that we are going to be seeing more of hit man Pedro. Is Pedro working for Erick?
Steve---What say you about this new development?
must see tv
the gringo
"The subject is changed, and Regina gets to talking about how affected she is over David and Daniela dating. Yawn. Next."
Loved that little passage. How often have we had that couch, those two, and that exact same discussion. Over and over. And it wasn't remotely interesting the first time.
I like how Eladio is handling this marital mess. No flirtation with Nina, no dissing Julia and no letting others (David, Daniela) diss her either. Personality transformation, like physical healing, seems to proceed at the speed of light in these telenovelas. Bruises and limps seem to disappear overnight, no why not toxic personality defects.
I like the new improved family-size package of Eladio (even if Cynderella doesn't) and I'll be pleased as punch if he and Julia get back together again. Yeah, she's a dip, but she's HIS dip, the one he wants. So fine with me.
As was the recap. Great job Mauricio. Thanks.
... the other specialist checks out the MRI of Erick's "brain."
The air quotes say it all – What brain?,
(BTW, according to Google, un gancho al hígado is one of the most painful hits delivered in the boxing ring.)
I thought it was a fairly interesting episode that promised lots of good times on The Patio in the capítulos to follow.
Apparently, Erick wasn't given a choice in the matter. Yes it was a good idea and needed to be done but it should have been ordered by the judge in the matter, not arranged at Arturo's whim. Erick is a grown man and had the right to refuse any exam arranged by his dad (shades of Daniela). Without Erick's consent it was assault and battery by the Dr.
The examining Dr. didn't even talk to Erick. He should have begun by confirming Erick's consent and then getting a complete history of what happened and what his symptoms have been and currently are. At least he did say that he had reviewed the studies.
What we saw of the exam was a joke:
"...Erick gets a light shined in his eye..."
The light that was shined in his eye was an otoscope (an instrument designed for examining the ear canal). Now I suppose that he could have used the light from the otoscope to check the pupillary light reflex but in doing that one would not look through the lens as the consultant did. To properly exam the contents of the eye and the retina one would use an ophthalmoscope.
Finally, the degree of damage to the brain is significant in the case but the fact remains that Miguel beat the crap out of Erick and is guilty of assault and battery and should be punished, irrespective of whatever Erick himself is guilty of or deserves.
Carlos
Like NovelaMaven, I had a difficult time choosing but "(Surprisingly, Eladio remained quiet throughout the scene, was he out of his breath spray, perhaps?!)" and "Miguel was only trying to put Erick in his place by giving him a free facelift" were among my favorites.
"Erick and Dr. Oz are having a bro moment where Erick is asking Dr. Oz to get him an "amiga" because he needs one" - a perfect capture of the most revolting line of the evening.
David has been acting without thinking and doesn't appear to properly process information. As his stock continues to plummet, he now adds an Eladio/Nina pairing to his long list of misconceptions.
I'm not sure that Eladio and Julia should reunite. But I am waivering a bit after reading mi amiga Judy's astute observation on Eladio: " No flirtation with Nina, no dissing Julia and no letting others (David, Daniela) diss her either". Very true.
Julia has been "sniveling" Variopinta, I agree. I hope the writers shift back and give us a Julia who grows strong and independent and who decides with her mind and heart what she wants to do. Right now she seems jealous and rather desperate.
Leticia, I've been musing on Justino's fate for a few days now. I believe he will either be instrumental in bringing Franco down or die trying.
Diana
"Eladio is like WTF"
Something is wrong with me, an image of crazy Julia just pops in my head intermittently during the day, eyes rolling around and arms flapping. First couple times I laughed, now I jump, I'm worried.
well, I still do not get it. I just do not get it. Neither Julia or Regina understands that when you drop a hottie, some other girl will soon be picking him up. I am particularly tired of Julia's stricken look every time she sees her ex with another woman. Really, Julia, did you truly expect Hotladio to be alone and celibate for long? You divorced him...time to move on. Even Judyb has been noticing the new and improved guy.
It appears that Eladio, like me, has come to realize the wisdom of just keeping your mouth shut sometimes. It took me a whike to learn this , but it is often very effective.
Well, I am watching the season one Outlander marathon on Starz while doing the week's laundry . I wonder if Petra is doing the same.
I don't know where the writers are going with Julia. She loves him, she loves him not. And why does her DIVORCED husband not get to be with whomever he wants when he wants...and why does she automatically assume that his talking to Nina just HAS to be to bug her. Guess the fact her son dates the other woman's daughter couldn't possibly have anything to do with it. And frankly, I think her going overboard ( how many times did she visit David in two days with the same spiel) about wanting David to break it off with Daniela has nothing to do with Gina or Daniela's issues, but it's all about wanting to get him and Eladio distant from the Nina. With Gina, that wasn't a problem since she was independent and willing to move out of town. And no, Julia, your son is more than an adult. You can worry about, parents never stop, but his problem are not YOUR problems to be fixing and sticking your nose into. THought she had a job?
Said it before, say it again, are we suppose to be rooting for any of these four people?
As far as the young 'uns go, maybe a bit of her self-analysis is getting to Daniela. Some interesting comments made to her idiot brother. Maybe there is hope...though I bet the writers still go there with either her getting an accidental OD ( courtesy of a vengeful ASSmore??).
Hate there is that stupid paid for custody order because Connie could just take her son and get out of dodge. Auggie could help her find someplace safe. She should just walk away from that whole family right now and that includes Moopey Miguel.
How many more episodes? Seems we have soooo much to tie up.
Daisynjay
Daisynjay
Consuelo only offered her company shares; the Chimp didn't take them. Augustin really needs to step in and solve this situation ASAP although proving that the judge in the custody case is corrupt might be a challenge.
Good move on Arturo's part to expose Ape Child, who wasn't smart enough to consider this exam an assault. He was just smart enough to realize that he's busted now.
Pedro had to return because there might not be another way for Ape Child and Francofurter to find out that he's been playing both sides of the street.
As to the Ick Factor of a guy and two sisters, I have to remind everyone that a classic novela most of us love, the 1993 Corazon Salvaje had two sisters and two brothers in a game of musical beds in which the nasty sister boinked the hijo natural, then married his "legitimate" brother while the hijo natural married the other sister and fell in love with her.
*"He wishes death on Erick. Auggie says that he’s gonna pretend that he didn’t hear that."
*Cynderella
Carlos
The return of Pedro will certainly stir things up. I can see him pulling an Assmore and attempting to get money out both Erick and Franco in exchange for keeping quiet with what he knows about both of them. Of course doing that could get himself offed by either man.
Also, "Caridad is just so exasperating. (The Patio agrees with Marintia for what is possibly the first and only time ever ever)" Any patio agreement is welcome at this point!!!!
Thanks Mauricio, entertaining and instructive as usual, as Leticia said, "...... the recap is funnier and even more entertaining" than the episode.
JudyB, "I like how Eladio is handling this marital mess. No flirtation with Nina, no dissing Julia and no letting others (David, Daniela) diss her either. Personality transformation, like physical healing, seems to proceed at the speed of light in these telenovelas. Bruises and limps seem to disappear overnight, no why not toxic personality defects." Thank you for expressing my thoughts in such a way beautiful way!
Yes, I love the way Eladio doesn't let anyone disrespect Julia.
Like Gringo I really like this novela, and I look forward to all things PyP, recaps, comments everything.
My daughter and husband bought me this gorgeous shawl with Frieda's image on the back.
I told them that I wanted to wear it to the Frida restaurats in TN or California. I tried putting a picture of my Frida shawl on this comment, but couldnt figure out how to.
Leticia
2.) Julia is STUPID! She'll never get a backbone!
3.) Purple Lips & Eladio together: I foresee them going down in flames!
4.) Clara needs to watch her back too!
5.) Erick IS the OJ Simpson of the TN. Miguel & Connie better watch out because they're going to get whacked!
Is your shawl Frieda Kahlo? She has always been a fascinating character for me.
I like PyP too!!! must see tv!
Julia is so jealous. Im enjoying eladio tryin to figure it out. This could be a romantic comedy if some of these folk weren't so mean. Wouldn't It be great if after all this stupidness everybody ( meaning artty and nina & eladio & juls) went Back together? These people are going to end up with one or the other.
Regina & david, dani and jorge, I agree, yawn!!!!! Gina's hurt cuz her stupid bro hates her, get over It girl. Even dani has gotten over his tantrums.
Chimpboy, (hey why do you guys call him chimpboy)? Is just really pathetic. You think maybe he'll grow by the end of the show? I don't. And caridad is rather annoying.
Now we're going sit through erick come up with one of his diabolical schemes to stop miguel and connie from more canoodling together.
Okay this is all I got for now. Mauricio thank you, great recap.
As Nina(blogger not the character) said, there was a lot of whining in this episode. Basta people. Thank goodness for the hope of a love interest for Petra. And I'll really hate the writers if poor Justino gets whacked.
Diana, David's continued stupidity just makes it more painful to want him to get a happy ending with the equally annoying Regina. And I'm encouraging you to stay the course, Julia needs to be alone and have more therapy. Our friend JudyB made an excellent observation about Eladio's change and its true, he seems stable. But was know neither one of them is sane. She's either sniveling, as you observed, and he's obsessed with her. If they get together any time soon, the revelation about Franco's true character will break them up again.
NovelaMaven, thanks so much for your wonderful recap also.
Now let's take a look at Erick---He "did" rape Consuelo, it wasn't "attempted." What did Erick get for it, a punch in the nose by Miguel#2. Well Consuelo isn't your favorite bad girl so I would expect you of leading the charge to get Miguel#2
locked up with the jailers key being thrown away. Carlos, what planet did you come from? Planet Texas? Ok it must be the tequila then.
the gringo
I thought it was stupid of Eladio's Dr. Phil to continue talking to Eladio outside of the privacy of his office, Julia should not have heard any of that.
David's tantrum at the end of the episode was so annoying, I liked him at the beginning of this story but now he seems shrill and childish, he and Regina deserve each other.
Steve, I think you're right about Erick, when his plan to put Miguel in prison fails, he's going to lose it.
I think its very odd that a mansion that size only has Petra. Other mansions with comparable size and family members have several, but in this TN Petra does everything......well at least nina is going to add another employee, what took her so long?? And yes, shrill describes David's yapping. He is nice looking, but that high pitched shrill voice of his.....nomas no!
Leticia
Short of a nuclear blast and a funeral involving bulldozers, even professional storytellers would be hard pressed to wrap this train wreck up in less than a TN lifetime. So go ahead and in lieu of making sense of all this, cut to a Payless commercial and then back to the new gardener licking the makeup off the maid.
Aye yie yie.
Good morning and thanks for your interest. As I see things, here are the differences in the two situations:
In CI, Miguel rode up and saw Eusebio squatting over Lucía who was struggling and screaming bloody murder as Eusebia was attempting to rape her. Miguel didn't know whether he was armed or not so he took aim and shot him deaad. I believe that here in Texas that would have been seen as justifiable, in California, perhaps not, in Mexico, who knows? Had Eusebio actually raped Lucía and run away, and then if Miguel had tracked him down and killed him, I would have a very different opinion and would believe that Miguel should have been prosecuted and punished. But that was not the case and as it happened, he prevented a rape of his wife.
In PyP Erick raped Coni and left, Miguel found out, sought Erick out and beat him. He did not prevent the rape, he was extracting revenge. In Texas he would be prosecuted and punished, I suspect that the same is true in California and Mexico as well.
Now, I'm sympathetic with the actions of both Miguels but from a legal as well as moral perspective there is a big difference... at least in my opinion.
NEXT!
Carlos
She [Julia] calls him out over blabbing to Daniela that she asked him to break up with her. David says he was just being honest.
To add to the many things David does that irk me, he tells Daniela what Julia said about her. Just dumb. Cardinal rule: When mom says she doesn't like your choice of girlfriend, don't tell said girlfriend because if she one day becomes your wife, she'll bear a grudge against her mom-in-law.
I saw a lot of foreshadowing of Franco's downfall in this episode. I'm picturing him trading places with his mom. He's sent to prison for attempted murder and embezzlement, while Marintia and some new man she hooks up with raise little Franco without him. The only person who visits him in the joint is Caridad, who annoys and annoys.
Eladio is pretty self-righteous gloating to Arturo about his lousy fathering of Daniela. But will Eladio take any blame on himself with he discovers what a perfect snake Franco is?
Julia, it's fun seeing Nina stick it to you after your past kissy face with Arturo.
Which makes me wonder whether David was away at school for extended periods of time. We weren't told this but that could have been the case.
Re: Frankenfurter, it is just heartbreaking to see a snake begging so fervently for an anvil. Frankie Boy, may all your wishes come true. I haven't figured out how his BFF Pedro figures into this. Pedro seems to be the only 'for hire' thug in all of central Mexico, so this could go many different ways.
So many people in this are showing almost human intelligence, if they were a crumb smarter, maybe some anvils could start falling. I'll take a Frankenfurter anvil over maid gets laid any day. Just sayin'.
Although we have been discussing these characters' Karmageddons for while, I will start writing up a specific discussion lead topic.
A question to anyone who knows: Are the final 10 episodes in Mexico half-hours to accommodate the early episodes of its replacement? We are 14 episodes behind at the moment and we had been told that the Mexican finale date is April 10 .
So many entertaining comments, you guys are a hoot!
"two familial generations with more issues than National Geographic" Hahahaha! UA, you nailed it! This should go on an official review of this confused and convoluted, but oh-so-addictive series.
Kirbo your comment @ 12:22 was hilarious! Love how you read these characters for filth!
Diana and Leticia, you are so right about David! The actor's portrayal doesn't help things either. I don't like his act-by-number method. Same sh*te, different scene. Consuelo, or rather the actress playing her, does the same with her own one-dimensional acting recipe: Emphasize word, furrow brows, touch neck... Lather, rinse, repeat. ¡Ya me tienen harta estos dos! (I've had it with these two!).
Daisynjay, Diana, Variopinta, Leticia, Karen, Nina, Tofie et al., I too do not understand Julia. I have stopped understanding her ages ago. She is getting worse with every episode to the point where her constantly crazed look and her repeated utterings of "Estoy confundida" and "No sé" are becoming just creepy. "Why won't he help me with my actions?" whines Princess Confundida. What is he? Nostradamus? If you don't ask, he can't tell! Besides, didn't you tell him, like a bazillion times before, to leave you alone and stop begging for your love and forgiveness? Julia has reached a stage where she pretty much personifies the metaphor of the dog in the manger. Except that this dog runs around between Eladio and Arturo, peeing all around them to mark her territory. Every time either guy annoys her and/or his adoration wanes, she rushes to pee on his leg! Still, Susana González is arguably the most beautiful, graceful and elegant TN actress I've ever seen! She is my TN girl crush! <3
JudyB, Susanlynn, Sandy et al., let me join your Eladio swooning squad. He is el malo más bueno! A baddie so good, a villain so noble, an antagonista so protagonista... Still, I preferred him when he was mean! You must have noticed by now that I'm sorta like the female version of our good Dr. Carlos when it comes to villains: I love my villanos! I like them to be complex characters, ruthless, confident, entertaining, suave if they are men and seductive if they are women, with a wicked sense of humor and interesting mannerisms. Eladio fitted this profile to a T but the writers ruined him. Now I just want Eladio to die at the end, so I can properly mourn the death of a missed opportunity to create one of the greatest TN villains ever! :(
Nevertheless, all in all, I'm still enjoying this show, especially with the witty commentary that this Patio provides. Must-see TV, as our dear Gringo likes to say.
Have a great Sunday, everyone! :)
As we crawl to the end of this tale, if you HAD TO change places with one of the characters , whom would you choose? Remember you could not go back in time and change any of their dumba$$ decisions that got them where they are today!
If I absolutely had to, then I would change lives with Francisco who had the good fortune of being exiled to Tabasco. Or better yet, I would change lives with the Montenegro's gardner who quit around the mid-run of the series. Petra had a major crush on him so he must be a nice fella and he had the good sense of running away from the Montenegro manicomio, I mean, mansion, so he must be a clever fella. :D
As you stated, Miguel #2 was exacting revenge for Consuelo's rape. Well, so was Miguel #1. Miguel #1 wasn't preventing the rape of your favorite bad girl, the assault was OVER as soon as Miguel #1 rode up on the scene shouting at Eusebio. A point you may have missed but Lucia had all of her clothes on when Miguel rode up upon them. Anyway, at that point the assault had ended. Miguel however like our PyP
Miguel wanted revenge and so a bullet to Eusebio's head was his satisfaction plain and simple.
You were dancing on top of the patio tables after Miguel murdered Eusebio for an attempted rape and now you are leading a torch light mob to go after Miguel#2 for punching Erick out for Consuelo's rape. It's funny that you had such tremendous compassion for bad girl Lucia but none whatsoever for sweet Consuelo. It seems like you have more compassion for rapist Erick than you do for Miguel #2.
Carlos---It has been said that Texas tequila is stronger than our California variety
and so I now realize why your brain has been foggy all this time. It's not your fault. Do you want me to send you a bottle of California's finest? It's not as strong as the Texas stuff that you have been drinking but ours is more flavorful.
the gringo
She has the ability to feel affection for all these very flawed multi-defective characters. A woman of generous emotion. She has a great sense of humor. A marvelous tenderness with babies. The work she does is useful and needed. And she's an eternal optimist. Prince Charming is just around the corner!!! Maybe.
So yes, I'd put myself in her place in a minute. Just to have that generous human serenity.
Just to shake it up a bit, I think I'll choose Clara. Clara is a values girl, she looks for stability and normalcy in a guy, not superficial flash. She is a hard worker, not even slightly materialistic. She's strong; when she was being tortured by Franco, being made to get on her hands and knees to clean up a purposeful spill, she quit her job...how refreshing! Clara loves children, even those who aren't her own. She is a fantastic friend, what more can can we ask for? It is Clara for me!
...It has been said that Texas tequila is stronger than our California variety..."
I can't imagine who says that since all Tequila is made in Mexico.
As to your other assertions:
"...the assault was OVER as soon as Miguel #1 rode up on the scene shouting at Eusebio."
You might want to look at the scene again. As you'll see, Miguel didn't shout at him, he shot him...dead. Eusebio was never aware that Miguel was there at all.
"It seems like you have more compassion for rapist Erick than you do for Miguel #2."
It may seem that way to you but that is simply untrue. I want Erick punished for Coni's rape as much as anyone but Coni pretty well shut the door on that by not reporting the rape after it occurred.
"...so I now realize why your brain has been foggy all this time."
I don't question your intelligence, visual acuity, hearing, or sobriety, perhaps you could show me similar respect.
Carlos
I choose Lucita. Sure, she lost her mom but everything else seems to be going well for her. Her dad loves her and a loving, pretty new mom is in her future. Besides, she has a whole life ahead of her to screw up however she sees fit.
Carlos
A great question Susanlynn. Hmm.. I'm not sure who I'd switch places with. Maybe Justino. He's a nice and hardworking man who is also a good father and who will make a great husband.
NovelaMaven, I forgot to thank you for the explanation of what "an arrow to the liver" means. Thank you so much. I understand it now. It's certainly one of those things that sounds better in Spanish, though. :)
Leticia with a Frida shawl would be awesome. If things keep going like this, we might eventually fill up the outside area.
I saw a documentary on Frida Kohlo, she had a very rough life and went through a lot
of terrible pain for several years. I'm glad that I didn't have to walk in her shoes
Susanlynn---I think that I would choose Justino. He's honest, a good worker and he has won the heart of sweet Clara. Now if he doesn't get whacked.
Kirbo---Is the new gardener really going to lick off Petra's makeup?
must see tv

Carlos....I had completely forgotten about Ewwwsubio. AFter he was killed, didn't his twin show up? P.S. Still have not gotten my Drambuie.
So..Bob's your uncle, and gringo is your dad!! Heh
Those who choose, "Google Account" under "Choose an identity" can use personal or online photos to post with their comments.
Yes, that is Henry Fonda, the movie is The Ox-Bow Incident, and believe it or not, the other guy is Henry Morgan (Col. Potter in Mash). I like the ambience.

Julia is trying to have her cake and eat it too, and the factory that makes the cake. Shes enjoying that attention. She better hope the right one don't get tired of her pingpong act. She should maybe choose before the thrill is gone.
"Do I have to choose again?"
Heck no, I think you'll make a great dad. Now, may I have an ice cream cone?
Carlos
Julia isn't used to standing up for herself in any real way. The first half of her life she was dominated by a controlling and abusive father, the second half by a husband who was worse. She almost equates abuse with love because she doesn't know much of anything else.
Is everyone forgetting Eladio's constant verbal insults and threats all through the first 50 episodes? The non-abusive Eladio was a six-month illusion that is fading upon the discovery of his 21-year deception about Franco. Nina coming on to him right on the heels of that is a guarantee that Julia will see Eladio as she knew him for 25 years.
She still hasn't found out about Marintia and Mateo. When Julia does find out about this she will hold Eladio personally responsible for Franco becoming what we know him to be. I still haven't figured out whether this discovery will come before or after the discovery about Franco's financial shenanigans, but that will finish Eladio in Julia's eyes.
The next few weeks should fun.
Which Outlander discussion forum is the best, or has the most activity?
Which Nina made the cake post?
:-)
Luista has not had much screentime lately. However, she will probably show up as the flower girl in the wedding. ...patent leather shoes and a frilly dress...
Oops! What the hey? She still has some maternal instinct left? Damn that conniving floozie.
But Sandy, in your corner, Julia DID marry for all the wrong reasons. A broken heart over infidelity does not come close to being reason enough to marry one who you do not love. IE: Some seem to think caught in the act is license to kill, it is not. It is your signal to leave, now, or join the fun.
I don't know what the writers are trying to pull on us. My fear is that they are in the same boat.
For Julia to stick with Eladio because of David's inheritance is very realistic. She could have made a decision to ditch Eladio once he put David in his will as his principal heir and David was well-employed. That was compensation for all those years of suffering both at his hands and those of Humberto whose gambling addiction was a contributing factor to the marriage. She was so beaten down by both Humberto and Eladio she was in no position to go out and get any kind of work. She is still struggling with self-reliance, which is also realistic.
When Eladio gave 20% of the company shares to Franco Julia's anger was justified. She knew all along that Eladio is David's sperm donor and we know that Eladio avoided the proof for 20 years because he wanted to maintain control over her. Also, he must have had the narcissistic viewpoint that because David was not like him temperamentally he couldn't have been truly his son, DNA notwithstanding. Franco, on the other hand, was his carbon copy in that respect and also looks more like him.
If Eladio had given Franco 10% I don't think Julia would have cared. As far as she knew Franco was an orphan without any other relatives and he was a valued right-hand man in the company. He also seemed to care for her and to love Gabriela. She didn't object in the past to him publicly stating that she was the only mother he had ever known. Now that she knows of the 21-year deception as to Franco's origins she should never forgive Eladio that. This had to have made her look like a total fool to the world.
20% of the company shares is more than enough to cause trouble, which Eladio will find out very shortly.
The writers gave him the psychiatric miracle because the viewers would have preferred to see FC and SG as the loving couple they saw before in another novela. They should have realized that this could not erase Eladio's sins. Especially the rapes and subsequent insults and imprisonment. Let's not forget about her original birds. It started feeling like Rosemary Rogers was on the writing team.
We've been told that SG originally hoped to be playing Nina instead. Would the writers have done this if she had been cast as Nina and another actress as Julia?
"For Julia to stick with Eladio because of David's inheritance is very realistic." UA, perhaps you are right, but remember, if you believe your assessment of Eladio's character and abuse, sending her only child/son into this place of abomination was very irresponsible on her part. Again, as you said, her character is damaged!
I like Julia and wish her the best.....several years of character building/healing as a real estate agent, then a reunion with Eladio...with Judy's miraculous psychological recovery under his belt!
to marry wealthy Manuel and that she had planned to run away with her novio on the wedding day. He raped her as they traveled to his ranch on their noche de boda. Then, they fell in love , but when the novio appeared again, Manuel went BSC. He threw pregnant Matilde out , went on a bender, took the smarmy housekeeper as his mistress. He thought that the baby was the novio's . I remember thinking "Geez, how could this guy possibly be considered the galan", but the writers redeemed Manuel and had the previously sweet novio become The BSC one, and reunited Manuel and Matilde in the end. I have a funny feeling that is what is going to happen here.

Alborado started with a weird rape (?) scene too, if you call tricking a sleeping woman into thinking that you are her husband and proceed with ........Actually, I'm not sure what you would call that, but I'm sure it isn't legal.
Sandy...Actually, in Alborada, that was not rape. Our blog mom recapped that show before she started caraycaray. She used to call Luis (FC) the Mystery Boinker of Santa Rita because he was blackmailed by Hippolita' nasty mother in-law to do the deflowering because her son (who had had an unfortunate experience) was not up to the task. Hippolita thought that Luis was her hubby when he climbed into her bed that night and was pretty happy about the whole thing.
OT..Outlander fans ...may I recommend and excellent video of a recent panel discussion by the actors, writers, and show runners on season one and two...at "samcaitlife"
FC has gotten himself in many weird compromising novela situations!!
tofie, you'll just have to float along with the rest of us! If we start thinking too much, our heads will start hurting!
I couldn't find this anywhere. But at the end of season 1, does Captain Black Jack Randall die? I wasn't sure.
I think I'd like to know now, if possible.
I have the first book, but have only finished the first few chapters.

The dismissal of the DNA thing was also nothing new in this series. The controlling husband in Duelo de Pasiones refused a DNA test because "I don't believe in those things."

"...this could also be an issue of misrepresentation on Eladio's part."
Which is all the more reason that I think the writers owe us a flashback to that pivotal wedding night. Surely we have not been given the facts we need to make a fair judgement. We instinctively know that rape is wrong but what in the world might have lead to her refusal to participate in normal wedding night activities which provoked the rape in the first place?

I like most flavors of ice cream and my favorite is homemade vanilla hand cranked in one of those old fashioned ice cream churns. From Baskin Robbins I prefer coffee ice cream.

We saw what kind of a husband Eladio was for 25 years in the early episodes. I don't think we need more information than that. We know that he based his accusation of cheating on an encounter between Julia and Arturo that took place before the wedding but we know from a conversation between Julia and Arturo in an early episode that this meeting lasted all of five minutes, did not involve any sexual contact, and took place in the study of what was then Humberto's mansion. I don't recall how he even heard about this (although I'm inclined to suspect Humberto).
*To that point, I suspect that this series will end with a few loose ends.
I don't know . The writers led us to believe that it was rape. No means no, right? But I agree that if Julia wasn't planning on bunnyhopping, she should not have married him. Was there any bunnyhopping with Eladio before the wedding?
As you can imagine, now I have to win the contest on behalf of my other grandson. No rest for the weary....
Now I've got to find a way to get some of that. I wish I'd known about that when we were in Memphis last Summer. I'll bet we could have found some there.
Carlos
Carlos, were you in Memphis for the barbecue and blues?
It was the last stop on our Mississippi River cruise. We stayed there at the Peabody Hotel for a couple of days. Had barbecue at the Rendezvous. We had lots of great food while we were there but didn't get to go to any of the clubs.
Carlos
Beale Street has its fair share of hooligans, it is probably better that you and Linda spent your time enjoying the Memphis culinary scene.
We had a great time. It was fun, very relaxing and excellent food. The crew was mostly perky college kids who were very enthusiastic and eager to please.
Sandy,
We got a glimpse of Beale St. from an afternoon carriage ride. It reminded me of Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

I am way behind in thanking all of the recapping team for all of the brilliant recaps. Thank you to Cynderella, Urban, NovelaMaven and Mauricio. I apologize for not joining you on the patio for comments, but my daily work schedule deters me from doing so. Believe me, I wish I could participate. Anyway, I just wanted to thank you for all of your hard work. Gracias!
Hasta Pronto
