Weekend Activity: The Televisa Remake Game (Classic Movies Edition)
In the last week I've been watching some great classic movies, so I've decided to revive something we had fun with in the past, The Televisa Remake Game. The rules:
- Pick a classic movie, any genre. Title translation optional.
- Give your dream cast for the Televisa Remake you would produce. Actors currently under contract to Telemundo are also invited to the casting call. Although most or all character names would be changed into Spanish ones, use the original character names for clarity.
- Make note of any minor changes to setting, character relationships, etc.
- Comment on any previously posted project.
- Have fun!
Labels: ana, camino, sda, telemundo, weekend, yago
Rhett Butler - Ramiro Peniche - Fernando Colunga
Scarlett O' Hara - Susana Herrera y Rinaldi - Ana Brenda Contreras
Melanie Hamilton - Maria Ruiz - Sandra Echeverria
Ashley Wilkes - Alejandro Vale - Eugenio Siller
THe story would take place during the Mexican American War. It starts on the family ranch "lirio azul"
Now for another serving of 1940s noir:
Laura
Laura Hunt............. Susanna Gonzales
Det. McPherson........... Jorge Salinas
Shelley Carpenter....... Sergio Sendel
Waldo Lydecker.......... Lisardo Guarinos
Ann Treadwell............ Felicia Mercado
Bessie (Laura's maid).......... Sachi Tamashiro
Other Detective........... David Zepeda
If Star Wars IV-V counts as a classic I would love to see a telenovela occuring in space! It would be a fantastic flop!
Luke SkyWalker...Daniel Arenas
Princess Leia... Fabiola Guajarado
Han Solo.... Jorge Poza
Darth Vader....Jorge Salinas
Lando...Alberto Estrella
Palpantine ... Rogelio Guerra
Yoda... ( The guy playing Detective Ayala in El Hotel)
I would actually have Jorge Poza be C3PO. He's so good at standing like a waiter, it's just a few steps away from being a protocol droid.
Although I don't have an specific casting ideas, one classic movie I'd put forward would be The Seven Samurai, adapted for some Mexico-specific situation. Opportunities for lots of male actors there, and a juicy role for the guy who plays Kikuchiyo.
If you wanted a more gender-balanced cast, you could go with Seven Brides for Seven Brothers. I've never seen it, but you've got a cast of fourteen just in the title.
Julie, any thoughts on your cast for that western?
I don't know enough actors to make up a meaningful cast for 7 Brides (never saw it), but I feel certain that the Televisa Repertory Theater can handle it. A movie with that many people in it probably isn't very deep, and it's a chance to show off a lot of pretty faces and costumes rather than heavy acting chops.
Rear Window is another opportunity to feature a variety of actors in amusing cameos with more action than dialogue. Moreover (and I swear I'm not trying to work this guy to death), I think Jorge Salinas looks a lot like a young Raymond Burr. So there's one bit of casting there. I'm not sure who I'd put in the James Stewart and Grace Kelly roles, but I'd like Carmen... um... what's her last name, older lady, in the Thelma Ritter role.
One more thought. I'm sufficiently impressed with Angelique Boyer in Tres Veces (even if I'm not impressed with the cliche-ridden TN itself) that I'd give her a role like Scarlett O'Hara.
Would anyone like to recommend an actor to play Norman Bates? There's a role that I wouldn't offer to just anyone, and in fact I'm not sure whom to give it to. Erik Elias has the right look, but Carlos de la Mota (now that we're seeing him as a bad guy in Tres Veces) has crazier eyes. Any other suggestions?
Walter.......Ricardo Fastlicht
Hildy.........Silvia Navarro
Bruce........Arath de la Torre
Mother........Macaria
Earl Williams......Ricardo Margaleff
Molly........Gaby Mellado
And Yes, Angelique is perfect as Scarlett. Bingo!
I am thinking I would love to see Wuthering Heights.
Heathcliff could be played by that tall dark/haired young man who was the artist in love with Turquesa in La Malquerida. (his last name is DeLeon) Or even Colunga. Catherine played by Susana Gonzales, her husband played by Carlos De La Mota. His sister played by Ms. wilkens ( think thats Jennifers name in 3xAnna)
Thx
Leticia
Norman Bates would be tough since that's a mommy obsessed character that soon get's tired of mommy dearest. I would say Flavio Medina but that would sound lame. For strange reasons I feel like putting William Levy in the role, maybe because he too is a motherboy at times but more independant . I did watch some episodes of the TV series Bates Motel though. The mother Norma is a toxic witch.
I felt the choice of Jorge Poza being Han Solo as badass because he could make a fine lonesman also the gorilla would love him! I wouldn't see how Jorge Salinas would feel chemistry with peachy Fabiola Guajarado but your choice as Poza being C3PO is hilarious!
Countx, I wouldn't have thought of William Levy for Norman Bates, but I think he could do it. (He can probably do anything.) I've never actually seen the TV series Bates Motel, so I'm attached to the Anthony Perkins version of the character, but much like Bruce Wayne or The Joker there's room for interpretation.
And Sergio Sendel as Vader. Hear me out on this one: he flings enough stuff around with his bare hands - just think what he could fling with the Force! Plus, he'll have five girlfriends. And a mustache on the outside of his mask. He'll be a super-badass Sith lord. He'll kill the Emperor in the very first movie and just run everything by himself. And the Death Star will have a HUUUUGE bar. Instead of dueling with light sabers, Obi-Wan and Vader will have a drinking contest.
Im not much into classics, [if you even call that a classic]. And you did say the 40s didn't ya? OH OH my bad!!! Maybe its a modern-day classic. Anyway that'd be interesting to see.
I think I would just make up a new movie that stars Horacio Pancheri playing all the male character parts. I just can't get enough of one of him on Camino.
Sorry, Julie, it won't be a 7 Brides for 7 Brothers remake. That movie was one of my favorite young adolescent movies when I was still into musicals with lots of comedy, singing and dancing. It looks pretty dated now.
Nina - I can totally see Christian de la Fuente in Sleepless in Seattle, I'd probably like your version better than the original ;)
ooh and I like the idea for Ricardo Fastlicht in His Girl Friday he does great comedy
I don't know about Marjorie de Souza - she seems too sexxy to me to play Grace Kelly's role
My suggestion for a remake is Fallen Angel from 1945 Its really grown on me, I think I've seen it three times now and I like it a lot and it'd make a fine telenovela, lots of complications going on in the story.
Its a story where a broke drifter(played by Dana Andrews) gets to town and convinces a rich and lonely heiress (played by Alice Faye)to marry him over the advice of pretty much everybody. Meanwhile he's got a deal going w/the hot waitress(played by Linda Darnell) to wait for him and he'll bump off the wife and he and the waitress will run off w/her money. But (spoiler alert) the waitress gets killed!! Who done it???
I suggest Marcelo Cordoba as the drifter b/c he could be charming enough to convince someone to marry him w/o knowing anything about him, Estefania Villarreal (most recently Doris in Yo No Creo) as the heiress and Irina Baeva as the self interested waitress.
Also Chantal Andere can play the heiress's half sister who tries to tell her this drifter is a bad risk but has an agenda of her own. and Otto Sirgo can play the cafe owner who is obsessed w/the waitress b/c he does both sad and creepy well. Azela Robinson can be the waitress's land lady who knows all what she's been up to and Luis Gatica can be the waitress's "other boyfriend". We need a good sheriff who can solve the murder and the only tn cop I've seen lately who was competent was Arturo Carmona (as Fidel in La Vecina) so I'm putting him as the sheriff in this too.
Anybody else seen this
Loving the ideas :D
Ana Brenda Contreras could do Scarlett but I almost think Angelique Boyer could do it better, but maybe that's just b/c I already think of Teresa as a remake of Gone w/ the Wind and I think Eugenio Siller could totally tone it down enough to be Ashley
He's not just a pretty face (though he's got that too)
Also I read that someone said he reminded them of Danny Kaye and I agree
Somehow I missed that Mildred Pierce was Urban's suggestion. I've never seen that film, but I've seen the Carol Burnett version so many times that I think I get the idea. :)
Carol Burnett did another classic movie spoof about a woman who is thought to have drowned, so her jealous (twin) sister marries her boyfriend. I don't remember what it was called, but it already sounds more like a telenovela than a film.
My dream cast for this and for Laura is based not just on their talent but on whom I think would look appropriate in the clothes of this period. Marlene Favela and Irina Baeva had such a perfect mother/daughter vibe in PyP that I could easily see them in a Spanish-language version of Mildred Pierce.
