Tres Veces Ana #42 - Run into, then run away!

We pick back up with Ana Lu being dragged away by a hysterical Sole. Ana Lu is incredulous – how could Sole have humiliated her like that, and in front of all her friends. Suddenly Evaristo appears out of thin air and scares even Sole. Without skipping a beat though, she asks him for a ride home. He seems to have become such a ubiquitous figure not only to us, because even Ana Lu is not surprised to see him there. He does reveal having known that Ana Lu belongs to Danzaire, and Sole is upset. She still wants that ride though.

Back at the theater Abue laments not having been able to meet the main acrobat and Tadeo offers to take her to Ana Lu’s prep room. Abue has some things to square away first, like find a ride for Tin. She asks Mariano to take him, but Mariano really doesn’t want to, so he pretends to be tired and asks Abue to have her chauffeur take Tin. Problem solved and Abue is ready to meet her granddaughter!

Tadeo points her to the right room and Abue negotiates a couple of corners and is at Ana Lu’s door in no time, when suddenly Santi/Marcelo (who must’ve been looking for Ana Lu there too) walks out of the door!! Both are shocked, though handle it differently. Abue has a more predictable reaction and feels unwell. She slides down the wall and has to be helped by Tadeo, who is ushering others to the rescue. While she was having an arrhythmia attack, Santicelo just stared at her, realized she recognized him and….quickly scampered away. He must think seeing someone doesn’t count if you quickly disappear.

Next time we see Abue, she is in the hospital being scolded by cardiologist Bernardo and advised to let family know of her heart issues. Abue perform a virtual foot-stomping (as she is actually laying in the bed) and declares she doesn’t want to tell them, and she also doesn’t want to stay in the hospital. She wins the former argument, but not the latter and is instructed to stay for observation.
She then hosts a variety of visitors.

First Ana Le comes in. When she first showed up at the hospital, she had to experience a terrible scare of not being the center of attention for about five minutes, as everyone was consoling Llora. She makes up for it by being the first to visit Abue, and declaring that while everybody else was distracted, she came in to visit. She asks what made her faint, and Abue hesitates a bit, then says that the acrobat reminded her of her lost granddaughter Ana Lu and that affected her. Ah, that… Ana Le is no longer interested. Abue suggests Ana Le goes to work, and she leaves, but not before asking Abue to convince Mariano that Ana Le needs to continue living with him. Surely he’ll be insisting for her to come back and help Ernestina, but Ana Le sees that Abue is fine.

Ana Le leaves and Abue remembers Marcelo and Ana Le’s engagement. Marcelo gave a very moving speech, Llora was touched to tears and Ana Le ecstatic to be the center of attention.

Santicelo is back debriefing with Ramiro and swimming deep in his river of denial. He almost convinces himself that his departure was so lightning fast that Flash himself would have been envious: “she didn’t see me, she didn’t see me, she didn’t see me….Did she? Oh, crap!” He moves swiftly to acceptance stage, and they come up with a plan to send Ramiro behind enemy’s lines to figure out whether or not Abue already told Ana Le what (or, rather, who) she saw.

Ramiro does just that and shows up at the hospital, much to Mariano’s displeasure. He is then so bold as to ask Llora’s permission to hug her. Permission is granted and, as the two embrace, Ana Le comes out of Abue’s room and spends several minutes wishing a lightning would strike both of them, judging by her facial expression. With lightning not forthcoming, she resorts to getting Llora’s attention and telling her Abue is expecting her in the room. Llora goes to see Abue, and Ramiro and Leonor go to get coffee. Ana Le wants to know why Mariano let Ramiro in, and is none too pleased to find out Mariano has a mysterious pact with Ramiro, and apparently, Mariano is also worried for someone other than Ana Le – and for Llora of all people!

Llora spends some time with Abue and Ramiro joins in. Abue is still very upset at him and stares him does as the enemy of the state. He says he is only there to wish her well, and he still thinks highly of her. He fishes for information on what made her faint and Abue tells them both that she just got confused. Ramiro promises to find Ana Lu again and leaves. Abue is still upset, since he doesn’t even have a single proof Ana Lu is alive. Llora is biting her tongue but keeps quiet about the bracelet.

A couple Inaki/Daniel fillers: Inaki, with some bruises after the fight, tries to buy a lottery ticket, but doesn’t even have money for that. Instead he cajoles Adriana into lending him some money from the company fund for his fictitious little nephew who needs money to go to school, which he, Inaki, is paying for. We are left to assume that Adriana gave in and let him have the money.

The other brother, Daniel, also covered in bruises is being doted on by their wonderful mother Julietta. She goes on and on that he really should stop running behind Ana Le, since she doesn’t love him, doesn’t pay any attention to him and probably still loves her dead husband. This whole scene ends in Daniel dragging his mother out of his room and slamming the door, making us wish that door instead hit him really hard. Julietta is pleading with him from behind the now closed door to let her in – she will be quiet if he just lets her finish attending to his wounds.

Next morning Anibal and company are trying to talk Sole down, but she won’t hear it. Ana Lu won’t be dancing in that group and that is that. Ana Lu storms out and Sole runs behind her. Just when we were beginning to wonder how a 25-year old lets herself be treated like she is a teenager, Ana Lu tells Sole that she loves her, but she is an adult, and Sole cannot be deciding for her what she does or doesn’t do. This is Ana Lu’s dream and if Sole loves her, she will not be asking her to give it up.

Apparently Sole is not convinced, because Ana Lu goes to be comforted by Remedios next. Rem tells her the performance was great, and she will convince Sole to let Ana Lu perform. She won’t reveal her methods, but she is pretty sure she will be successful. Rem then says she wishes Santi was there and Ana Lu clues her in that he really was there. How? When? Rem has a lot of questions, and so does Ana Lu it turns out. They both wonder why he didn’t show up at the hostel. Ana Lu noted something different about him. He must have met his wife in Costa Paraiso. Remedios remembers who his wife really is, and lets is slip that she hopes he never remembers. She then covers up her mistake by saying she doesn’t know anything further.

Ana Lu doesn’t know much more either, she didn’t have much time to talk to him. They agreed to see each other after the show, but that obviously didn’t happen. It looks like Santiago is hiding, otherwise why wouldn’t he just return to the hostel?

After this conversation, Rem goes to see Sole. The latter was finally motivated to go to Viridiana’s shop, but she is stopped in her tracks when Rem gives her an ultimatum: either accept Ana Lu’s passion for dancing and let her dance in Danzaire, or – if you cannot give her what she needs – Rem will look for Alvarez del Castillo, and they will give her those things. (A bit of an interesting blackmailing going on here – Rem apparently does not have any conscience issues with concealing the truth, and instead of just resolving the situation and revealing what she knows, she is going to use this information to get what she (or Ana Lu in this case)needs out of Sole. Rem is not scoring any respect points.)

Ana Lu, in the meantime, is meeting with Javier in the garden to ask him a giant favor. We’ll have to find out tomorrow what it is.

Thanks, Ria, I missed this tonight and your recap was excellent.

Wow! I can see how abuela ended up in the hospital after seeing Santiago/Marcelo.
So glad I did not have to watch Julieta playing the martyr once again with Daniel.
Interesting relationship dynamics developing between Remedios/Soledad/Ana Lucía

Gracias, Ria. Great work. My fave:

First Ana Le comes in. When she first showed up at the hospital, she had to experience a terrible scare of not being the center of attention for about five minutes, as everyone was consoling Llora.

Yes, indeed.

I think Remedios has had it with Soledad's desperation. She seems to get that a line has been crossed here. Soledad has been selfish and it's only getting worse. Ana Lucia is 25, not 10. She should be on her own at this point. Nobody should be interfering in her career decisions, especially since she can be very successful at this. And once Ernestina learns the truth I would totally back her if she wanted Soledad in prison for kidnapping.

Thanks, Ria. "He must think seeing someone doesn’t count if you quickly disappear." Heh heh. That's a common misconception... among very small children. Marcelo should know better. Especially with the stunned look on Abuela's face.

I get the irritation over Remedios keeping Soledad's secret and using it to blackmail her on AnaLu's behalf, but in all fairness, that's pretty much what Soledad begged her to do. Soledad insisted that she was keeping the secret... for AnaLu's own good. Remedios is now keeping her promise by continuing to keep the secret - and using that secret for AnaLu's benefit. She's certainly not getting anything out of it for herself. (Or is she? I can't see any benefit to Remedios, but maybe I'm missing something? Keeping AnaLu from her real family keeps her local, and keeping AnaLu local keeps Santi local? Is that too much of a stretch?)

Whatever, it's unrealistic in the extreme for Soledad, Remedios, Evaristo, or anyone else to believe that AnaLu won't meet her sisters soon. Indeed, the only reason they haven't been reunited yet is because of ridiculously contrived scenarios. Their social circles have already begun to overlap. Really, it's all over except for the crying.

Thanks so much, Ria! I also chuckled at SantMarc's magical-realistic thinking that Ernestina didn't recognize him during their momentary face-to-face meeting. Ramiro did a good job digging for the truth.

Couldn't believe how Mariano was mad-dogging Ramiro when he came to the hospital, but was perfectly fine sitting next to Valentin (the guy who defrauded him and held a gun to him) during the performance. I continue to think it's ridiculous how rabid with hate Ernestina and Mariano have become over Ramiro, with no shred of evidence of his supposed gold-digging ways. Plot contrivance.

Glad that Remedios put her foot down about Soledad crushing Ana Lucia's hopes, dreams and career. But how does she justify helping to hide the truth from her?

Many thanks Ria. Lord, these "contrived scenarios" (thanks Julie--perfect) are getting tiring. I love your snarky comments on characters and events.

Because, I mean, really...Soledad? She is throwing her weight around with a 25 year old woman and thinking she'll just curl up and go sit in a corner just because she says so? Thank goodness AnaLu is showing she is still "Free Spirit" and hopefully planning to go rogue. Of course, I'm guessing SoleDearest will probably back down thanks to Remedios.

How much did I love AnaLe having to take second place...oh, that was fun! And Mariano isn't exactly caving to her every whim anymore which is even better.

I think all these events are strictly setting us up for the big TaDa moment as we stop for the mid-show break. I was actually surprised Santa and Auntie ran into each other already. So what will be the TaDa moment--the sisters all running into each other in one location, AnaLe coming face to face with her hubby, or Soledad being ratted out and AnaLu going in search of her sisters? I'm guessing some sisters reunion...but whatever it is better be good with all these stupid almost misses we keep getting. (Personally, my two moments of bliss will be when Mariano finds out AnaLe killed Jennifer-but guessing that will come Part 2).

Great work Ria!

Loved it too watching AnaLet in second place. Whenever she is annoyed I'm happy. I find her insufferable.

Why does Inaki have no money? Is he paid strictly off commission?

A guy in a wheelchair, living in a ratty apartment gives no whiff of gold digger but an accountant, who has known the family his entire life, living in a nice place from a good family, obviously must be after money. Geesh!

I agree. SantMarc will not know AnaMeMeMe killed Jenny until the second half.

Great point, Carvivlie. The problem with that situation is that AnaMeMeMe has seduced both Mariano and Ernestina into believing the worst of Ramiro while the oboe and the wheelchair give Valentin a pass.

Inaki might be paid strictly on commission and how much time has he spent working lately? Every time I see him he's drinking or eating with someone (in that order of priority). And how can he be an effective realtor without a car?

Thank you Ria for the perfect recap, love the snark peppered here and there!

Hello Patio! I've been trying to keep up with the recaps but haven't had time to comment until now. I can't stay away from this blog for too long, I love having a place to discuss these crazy TNs.

Carvivlie you made such a great point and I agree with UA that Valentin gets a pass too because he and Ana Laura both have a disability.

The engagement scene that Abue remembered was very touching but I find it so difficult to believe that Santi/Marcelo could be so in love with Ana Let who is clearly disturbed, selfish and evil.

I felt really sad for Julietta being so mistreated by her son and practically abandoned by her husband but when we found out that she is the mother that left behind her 2 young sons and Tadeo, I felt glad that she is getting her karmageddon.

Can't wait to find our what favor Ana Lu will ask for.

Lily, I don't think that SantMarc has remembered much yet. He hasn't yet had any flashbacks to the last few days he spent in her company so he doesn't yet remember that she didn't want him to find Ana Lucia.

What I doubt they'll do but would be great is if he could witness the reunion from adequate distance to not be seen by them but close enough to see the evil expression on AnaMeMeMe's face.

First Ana Le comes in. When she first showed up at the hospital, she had to experience a terrible scare of not being the center of attention for about five minutes, as everyone was consoling Llora

Well I see I picked the same favorite quote as UA. But it bears repeating. Just a delightful scene watching Ana Leticia gnashing her teeth in jealousy.

Also loved Santiago "swimming deep in the river of denial". Do we believe that Abue will doubt what she saw. To me, it seems possible that she'll try and talk herself out of it.

Okay, Julietta is now every bit as annoying as Soledad. Yikes, couldn't stop dabbing that sore spot (just let the thing heal naturally lady!) and couldn't stop jabbing the sore emotional spot either. Am beginning to sympathize with the husband who travels a lot. Though not with the petulant Daniel.

Thanks for another entertaining, well-constructed recap. You're a treasure.

Thanks Ria for the recap and this " Abue perform a virtual foot-stomping (as she is actually laying in the bed" was a perfect description. I don't understand her reluctance to tell people she's sick, is she in a Victorian novel? Does she think they won't figure it out from the whole being in the hospital thing? Have they really all missed that she has heart problems? I seem to remember seeing her clutch her chest, has her family missed that?

I'm starting to think more and more that when BadAna does finally meet Analu she will lose it for good, they're certainly foreshadowing a complete mental break for her, not least by her picture being broken in the intro.

Funny, I never noticed the broken picture in the intro. What I do always notice is the weird effect of Santi/Marc and then Ana/Ana/Ana revolving as if on a turntable, like they're in a microwave oven or something.

Thanks all!

Jarifa - interesting dynamic indeed between Sole, Ana Lu and Rem. I keep waiting for Rem to do the right thing, but might be waiting in vain for now.

Urban, agreed. Though I fear Ernestina will back down when Ana Lu will ask for clemency for her "mother".

Julie, too funny you mention this - little kids hiding a limb and assuming the whole body is hidden was the first thing that came to my mind too! And true, Rem is trying to adopt the mid-course correction, but seems that she needs more drastic measures here.

Vivi, oh I am so with you being annoyed at how the plot developed into everyone hating Ramiro, but no one bats an eye when Valentin shows up with his history.

Daisynjay, you gave me something to look forward to in the end with the imagery of Mariano finding out who killed Jennifer. Ana Le's karma must be coming.

Carvivlie, I was trying to figure out Inaki's deal. Perhaps he spends all his money on suits and entertainment, but to not have a couple pesos for a lottery ticket seems so strange!

Hi Lily and welcome! I agree with you that it is unbelievable that Marcelo did not see through his wife's dark little soul. Though maybe he did and at the time Marcelo was ok with it. Let's hope Santiago/Marcelo isn't.

JudyB, I too fear Ernestina will convince herself that she saw a phantasm. And ditto on Julietta's annoyance factor rising exponentially. Though I agree, no one deserves the treatment that she is getting.

Sneaky, really how did they miss Ernestina's heart problems? I am fairly sure I remembers at least a couple times Leonor was next to her when she felt unwell! Very strange.

Thanks again everybody for reading and such great discussion!! Looking forward to see what we get tonight.

@Julie LOL the characters revolving like they're in a microwave. I always thought that looked kind of cheesy. I did notice the breaking frame/picture/glass for Ana Let and it seemed a funny way to emphasize that she's the evil triplet, it's more of an effect to show that someone looks ugly, in my opinion.

Sneaky, I agree that Ana Let is going to freak out when she meets Ana Lu. The other day someone commented that they want to see Ana Let come on to her uncle so that everyone can realize what a nut case she is LOL it sounds gross but I agree. If she tries anything with him, the family will know what she really is.

I think Angelique is doing an excellent job portraying the sisters. I find myself believing that there are 3 different women. The hair and makeup helps and Angelique's acting is top notch.

REMEDIOS & the chamber of secrets:
Remedios is only keeping this secret b/c of the tangled situation of her godson's marriage to Ana Lu's sister. Revealing that Ana Lu is a kidnapped orphan is one thing, but revealing that she's a triplet to her lover's wife would be disastrous to the peace & happiness of both Ana Lu & Santi. Keeping the secret maintains their ignorant bliss. Of course, Rem doesn't know her godson knows all if this already.

RAMIRO vs VALENTIN, or Romeo vs Voldemort:
I think the writers are hoping to validate the hate against Ramiro via the incident in which Llora confesses seeing his kiss w/ LetTeaseYa. Add in Leti's insistence that he's playing w/ both of them really puts a stain on his character. It doesn't help that he ditched his bride on their wedding day for Llora, only to leave for 3 yrs. Or that his dad reinforces their consensus by kicking him out. The incident where he requests money for Ana Lu's picture didn't help his case either. Villantin is seen as a mirror of Llora, so is innocent by default. He comes off fragile at best, even if he is a bit looney. He seems to them (& to us viewers) as a good influence on Llora. Aside from Mariano who has reservations, he seems to have convinced everyone (including Leonora) that he's a good guy.

INAKI, most likely to vote for Trump:
Inaki isn't very bright & definitely lives beyond his means. Clearly by his clothes, apartment, & outings, he's trying to keep up with the Castillo's and going broke doing it. Even Ana LetTeaseYa teases his inability to buy champagne. She knows as well as we do that he's faking it to make it.

MARCELO, love is blind & distance makes the heart grow fonder:
I think it was established that Marcelo was on business alot. Many flashbacks show Leti on her best behavior around him, she seemed to be truly in love with him. I'm sure he was aware of her selfish, bratty, shallowness (according to his flashbacks, he's no peach either), but most likely was in the dark about her evil nature (which seems only to have triggered around the time she realized she couldn't be satisfied). It wasn't until the culmination of their relationship that we see her cheating, paying Gina, paying Mariano's secretary, paying Evaristo, etc. I think as he deviated his attention from her to finding Ana Lu, she lost her mind.

Love your nickname for AnaLeticia. Pure genius.

As for Iñaki, he owes a lot of money which he'll probably never pay back (Including no doubt the latest pilfering from the ready cash drawer at work),, he's dissed his father in countless ways (and disrespecting your parents is a HUGE no-no on telenovelas), he's a gambler on horse races and loses, then tries to cadge more money out of friends and relatives, and.....

I dunno, the guy is charming in spite of all that. A rascal and a rake but charming. Hopeful this rather shabby character will be redeemed at the end so us gullible gals won't feel too guilty for secretly liking him.

Genius? Really? Aw shucks *kicks dirt*

Oh yeah, I forgot that he gambles too! Yes, he has that bad boy effect down pat but you can tell he's got a heart. I think that's what makes him so attractive to us. A rake w/ charm, so most definitely set up for some kind of redemption. I'm more anticipating to see how this character evolves, than the muddled Santicelo.
