Vino el Amor #5, October 31, 2016: More like Vino el Sadness and Bad Timing for Graduation

This episode's sadlights (some scenes combined):
  • Luciana and Marcos read a newspaper article about David and are pleased it mentions Marcos.
  • Liliana is trying to locate Graciela and Lisa.
  •  David has rushed to the river and found Lisa's car, then her phone.
  • Graciela has returned to the house, looking dazed. Juan spots this.
  •  David spots Lisa floating in the river. He goes in after her and starts swimming back to shore (I thought I saw her splashing here).
  • Miguel and Juan have a spat about fixing the wine press, the fertilizer and basically who should be making vineyard-related decisions and whether Miguel should report to Juan.
  • David brings Lisa to shore and attempts the worst CPR ever, which mostly consists of yelling at her to breathe. He's also yelling for help, which doesn't come. Lisa dies.
  • David, in a daze, carries Lisa back to shore in his arms.

  • Miguel spots David carrying Lisa and rushes to his home to give Marta the news.
  • Luciana and Marcos discuss her graduation and what she wants for a gift.
  • Liliana and Graciela come out of the house to find David carrying Lisa to the patio. He is so devastated. Then the kids come out. Graciela tries to shield them but there's no shielding and they are devastated too when David tells them their mother is dead. David then quietly hisses to Graciela that she should be the dead one. That doesn't stop Graciela from being all over David and just generally smarmy. David also won't let Liliana hold Lisa, telling her "she's mine!" Liliana sends the kids off with Marta, tells her to get Juan and gives Graciela a REAL look. I'm not sure what that look was, but it was a LOOK.
  • Luciana calls Marta, who tells her about Lisa's death and that she'll have to call later because she is busy comforting the kids. Luciana later wonders if Marta will prefer to stay with David's kids rather than attend graduation.
  • Juan has arrived at the patio, but David doesn't want him there. He manages to pull David off of Lisa and Liliana holds her dead daughter while Graciela watches. I thought Laura Carmine did a good job of playing dead here as they kind of passed her off.
  • David "chats" with God. He's been a good man, and this is how he's repaid? He doesn't believe in God anymore! He throws the cross on the wall to smash it in anger, but it stays intact.
  • Luciana prays for Lisa, David and their family.
  • David moved on to trashing the bedroom. Now he's slumped on the floor next to the bed, telling Lisa's picture that he failed her. There's a knock. Ugh, Graciela. She asks him something about the arrangements. He can't even think about that. She tries to comfort him and tells him to man up for the kids, in her smarmy way, and he literally pushes her out the door.
  • Marta tries to comfort the children. They will really need her.
  • Luciana and Marcos talk about the tragedy and how life can change in an instant. Marcos gives Luciana a necklace so that she can always keep him with her to protect her. She is touched.
  • So does Luciana, who really wants her mom to be at graduation. But now David's kids will need her.
  • Miguel and Ramon brought flowers to the house. Miguel senses something is not right.
  • Juan accuses Graciela of causing Lisa's death. Graciela sticks to her accident story and reminds him about his plot with Liliana to rob David.
  • David gets a gun out of his safe and puts it to his temple! Marta luckily comes in and holds off on the wailing for once. She begs him to stop and think of the children and gently nudges his arm down. I was impressed by how well she handled this. David tells her he can't be a father because he sees Lisa in his children. She tells him time will help him and so will she. David puts the gun back in the safe. This is good, because his kids come in a few seconds later. He tells them that they have to be strong and Marta pledges to stay.
  • My notes say, "evil trio go to viewing" so I'm guessing this is Juan, Graciela and Liliana and not much plot development beyond general hissing at each other over each other's secrets.
  • Luciana is typing an email to Miguel to talk about Lisa's death. She's looking at a picture of grown up Luciana and Miguel together, so they've visited at some point. She hopes Miguel can come to graduation.
  • David and children arrive for the wake. He has to explain to Bobby what a wake is. All of the vineyard workers and evil relatives have come.
  • Miguel emailed Luciana back to say he couldn't come to graduation. She understands. Marcos reports that he hasn't heard back from Marta. Luciana says (in a miffed tone) that she wonders if her mom prefers to be there at the vineyard. She doesn't think they will ever be a family together again.
  • The family has returned home from the wake. Marta is sent to put Bobby to bed, and Fernanda asks Graciela to go up with her. Juan asks David what he can do, and David asks him to call Cesar in Paris and let him know what has happened. (True confession, I have no idea who Cesar is.) After Juan leaves, Liliana indicates to David that she doesn't have to stay there if he doesn't want her. David only responds that he needs help with the children now.
  • I guess Susan is the wine press technician. She wants to talk to Juan first about the problem, but Miguel tells her that he's the man when it comes to wine press problems. After she leaves, Miguel hopes that Susan can solve the problems or he and Leon will be in trouble.
  • Fernanda is crying to her mother's murderess about her mother's death and begs her not to go to Europe. Graciela manipulates this to her advantage and tells Fer it depends on what her dad says. Hey maybe Fernanda can ask him to let Graciela stay!
  • Bobby doesn't want to eat. Liliana gently encourages him and then yells at him. Marta comes in and realizes the crusts weren't cut off, and does it for him. Liliana snarks at her and Marta stays respectful, "si, Senora." Liliana tells her that she's the boss now, and Marta can quit if she doesn't like it!

Thanks, dy77, you got it all.

Best part: David pushing Graciela out of his room.
Worst part: David being incapacitated by his grief.

Well done dy. Confession I don't remember Caesar either. Oh I saw splashing too but guess the stunt double didn't want to die.

"This episode's sadlights"

Best work from GS in this show so far was carrying Lisa and the anguish on his face.

Luciana has a point, her mother does choose the kids over Luciana and Marcos but then it seems insensitive to show her disappointment. Good she's not perfect.

For me the best episode so far.

Thanks, dy77. Great job.

So sad about Lisa, but I loved every time David yelled at Graciela. He really said "she" [Graciela] should be the one dead? That was cold.

The TN showed a happy, loving couple in the first few episodes but IMO didn't capture Lisa and David's inseparability. David going for the gun to commit suicide was a shock to me.

Kudos to Miguel for standing up to Juan.

Don't blame Luciana for being ticked with her mom. Lisa's death is a terrible tragedy, but Luciana's mom should come to her own daughter's graduation.

Good work, dy77.

Cesar is the doctor, played by the currently ever-present Moises Arizmendi (Javier in AQNMD and Amador in ECDLP). He went to Paris before the time jump. David had addressed him as "hermano," which says they are close friends. He needs him now.

Lillian definitely suspects Graciela and Juan does even more so, since he was the one who saw her returning from the crime scene in an agitated state. He knows the history of her obsession better than anyone else except David, since he witnessed it when they were all at university.

Before David went into the water he threw aside Lisa's cell phone.

Graciela has no conscience. And what she wore to the funeral looked painted on.

LOL at myself, wow, UA, I didn't even realize Amador was in this! (I tend to call the actors whatever telenovela character I do associate them with.) Maybe because he sounds like a good guy in this and Amador is so awful. I know who to look for now!

I am so glad Marta got David to man up and try to be there for the kids, at least for the wake. I hate that it looks like Graciela will finagle her way into the house for awhile. I too enjoyed it when he literally pushed her out of the room.

On the other hand, as a mom of graduates, I think that Marta should leave the kids with Graciela for a night and go to graduation. That only comes around once and Luciana actually is Marta's daughter.

I agree that Marta should go to Luciana's graduation. It doesn't look like they've seen each other since Gutierrez and Lillian did their dirty work.

However, with Lillian stealing the role of Patrona Luciana will have to come to Marta. No way would this vitch allow her "slave" to go back to Mexico to see her own daughter.

Didn't say this before but Graciela had some bloody nerve telling David to buck up at the discovery of Lisa's death. Not even Lillian had the gall to do that. At some point she will remember that Graciela didn't shed a single tear. There will be fireworks then.

Excellent screen shots!

Splendid dy. The format and content were superb.

“sadlights” and “(I thought I saw her splashing here) (I did too!) were among many favorites.

It was very sad but it appears we are in for more of the same to come. tofie, yes, good acting by Gabe who has really come a long way from his initial, somewhat stilted acting.

David is not quite the perfect galan. The crucifix smashing did make me wince I must admit. I did cheer and learning “David then quietly hisses to Graciela that she should be the dead one”.

"Graciela didn't shed a single tear" is right UA. She was in shock but seemingly not in the least bit saddened.

Thank you so much dy!!

Diana

Thanks, Dy77! This was so intense to watch. Heavy work for GS, an actor I had considered a lightweight.

"David brings Lisa to shore and attempts the worst CPR ever, which mostly consists of yelling at her to breathe." LOL yeah, I wouldn't recommend this scene for an instructional video.

I didn't remember Cesar either. I kept thinking of the little white dog on the dog food package.

Marta really ought to go to the graduation. But I see how miserable the kids are and how much they depend on her, and I can see why she can't bring herself to leave them (especially since she promised Bobby that she would NEVER leave them).

I truly can't stand Lillian. I don't mean that she's a character I love to hate; I just plain hate her and her scenes get on my nerves. If there is too much of that, I'll seriously find it difficult to watch the show.

I'm also skeptical of the whole premise here, where Graciela somehow has to have a chance with David even though he hates her, and Luciana really does seem too young for him.

But I'll hang in for at least a little while...

Thanks all for the nice comments!

Diana, I've just started watching occasional reruns of La Fuerza del Destino when it's on and I'm home and wow, that must have been one of GS's first roles. The difference in acting is pretty amazing. I thought he did well in YNCLH and in the episode last night.

Since I mentioned YNCLH, Julie, the lady who was a fun villain to watch on that is playing Liliana here, but you've nailed it - Liliana is no fun at all, she's just plain mean. It is interesting seeing her play a different character.

Thank you dy77! Great recap and quick.

While I am a great fan of GS's looks (!), his acting has improved somewhat. Actually in this TN, there's a bit of a regression; slightly overacted scenes (hysteria about the grapes, the grief scenes). But I blame the director more than the actor.

As for the Job-like scene of complaining to God, well done. I wonder if there's some significance in the crucifix not breaking. Cannot decide if Luciana (who appears to be devoted to the Virgin) will have an influence on David's crisis of faith. David's reaction is a familiar one: faced with the horrible things we have to face in life, the "problem of evil" becomes the catalyst for questioning the existence of a providential God.

Anon at 1:35 - I thought that as well about the cross. He really smashed it and it stayed intact, juxtaposed with Luciana praying. Definitely felt it was symbolic.

Dy77: Your recap was SPOT ON.

I'm worried about Marcos though because it looks like we'll be saying goodbye to him tonight.

Lillian still getting more hostile, this time verbally abusing Bobby for no reason.

Julie: Big question is whether Fernanda becomes Aranza 2.0 (see Por Siempre Mi Amor) ?

Dy77, thanks for an enjoyable recap. Glad I didn't see the episode yet and just in case Steve Boudreaux is right, I don't plan to watch tonight either. I don't like the idea that Marcos may be killer off. This being said, I look forward to reading the recaps.
Helen

Make that "killed off".

dy77--Great recap shifting the action to the adults in the story and the pain of losing Lisa. I even believed Lilian's sorrow for losing a child--her favorite one. Thanks.

Musings--
I got the feeling that Graciela did not start out to intentionally want to murder Lisa, but the fight escalated and she was shocked by what she had done. The murderous intent showed up when she watched Lisa fall in the water--in a location where she could have pulled her out and didn't.

Graciela is not going to like having an obstacle put in her way to David. I see an alliance between her and Juan, before blackmail from either party.

Miguel, as a child, said he had permanent status and was willing to go with David to look for Luci and Marcos. That makes me think he's been the one to travel to see Luci in Zacatecas. I don't think she's ever seen her mother again.

I thought David had put the cell phone in his pocket when he jumped in the water. At least I didn't see him throw it down. Since Lisa's body was found downstream, I wonder if anyone will find the bloody rock.

Graciela's hands were no longer bloody when she got back to the house and ran into Juan.

Marta's (and formerly Marcos) living quarters look quite luxurious. I think they shared them with Ramon. Carlos (handsome devil) is probably Ramon's son, who was a little boy in one of the first episodes.

Cesar was seen briefly treating Leon for his fever, then announced he was going to Paris for further studies. I wonder if he will be back. If he were to be an inconsequential character, David would not have mentioned him by name.

Perla will be trouble; she was a bit of a snit to Miguel when they were young and she's still at it.

Gabriel Soto was stellar (IMHO) in Un Refugio para el Amor and was in Querida Enemiga, way back in 2008 (my first tn). He had an important role in Sortilegio, too, although he was saddled with a May-December love and he was May, not December.

Thank you dy77. this sad sickening episode, you covered very well. I to saw splashing in the river. Im thinkin "good shes alive". Not.
This just wrong, but it had to happen cuz its
Fixen to hit the fan, more than it already has.

I can't stand that heffa "grossyella". She come in her sisters bedroom touchin her husband. She Already tryin think how she can get in his pants. And shes using her
Neice's grief to work her angle. Every anvil
Thats comin to that heffa she got it comin &
I want a front row seat.

When he threw that cross down in his anger and you said it stayed intact, I said so glad God always stay Intact, we don't. David will be just fine, as soon as he get all the evil folk
Out if his life. I actually felt his pain. Gab is such a good actor.

Marta is such a sweet lady. Those kids care about being around her more than that thing
Passin herself off as a humam being. After all she is their future grandma. And keepin david from killin himself, savin her future son
Inlaw. But a whole bunch of crap will go down before that happens.

Once all the sadness is cooled a bit, then all
The fighting begins. In family fighting, so very messy.
Thank you dy77. This was good. And sad :-(

I saw grossyella lookin at her mom grieving
Over her favorite child. That had to sting. Her
Sister wont see her babies again, and her momster don't care much about seeing her. Thats sad. I hate she killed her sister out of shear hatred and jealousy. She didn't get that
Way by herself. But still shes mean, and she
Wiil deserve those anvils. Shes a killer of sisters.

One more thing, Miss carmine is really good at acting dead, she was beginning to stiffen up like dead folks do (when riggamortus sets in) When she was being passed around from husband to mother. Ok. I don't know if that ↑
Word is spelled right.

Anita: Perla's going to be a big problem for the good guys because she's evil to the core.

I'd like to see the lovely Miss Carmine in a leading role sometime in the future.

Thank you for your recap DY77, you did an excellent job. I started watching this TN after the 2nd episode and had to catch up on Hulu. I am really enjoying it but was so sad to see Lisa murdered by her own sister! This was just horrible! Does Graciela think she can murder her sister and jump in bed with David? And Juan, another one that no one can trust.

I was glad to see Miguel telling the crew to bypass Juan and implied that Juan cannot be trusted.

Looking at the previews, it looks like Marcos doesn't have long. I can't deal with two good characters being killed off in one week!
