Vino el Amor, Episode 47; 1/6/17

Hello, sorry for my absence last week. But I’m back and better than ever!
Let’s dive in. -- Sonia

Marta advises her daughter to be clear about her feelings. Also, in regards to the Visa, Brian won’t be able to help, which should shock absolutely no one. Marta doesn’t think that marrying Miguel is the right solution to Luci’s problems. Luciana was definitely did not intend to get married. She has to figure out what she’s going to do. She only said yes because she felt pressured after he asked her in front of everyone.

Tano is scared that Mark forced Susan to do something in exchange for his freedom. Miguel and Leo don’t think she would ever agree to that.  Miguel lets his boys know that he and Luciana are going to get married. I felt like it was received with lukewarm congratulations.
Tano hit it right on that nail. Mark is seen bringing Susan a bouquet of roses. Mark tries to us Miguel-vibes but Sus asks him to be patient.

Carito is caressing an HD picture of Miguel when Perla comes into the room. Perla doesn’t like to see Carito sad, also she needs her to concentrate on their job so that they can leave the vineyard ASAP. Perla informs Carito that if the immigration office finds out that Luci and Miguel are only getting married in order for Luci to be able to stay in the country, they can get in a lot of trouble including going to jail. Carito receives this news with and smirk and is all for this jail possibility. (Side note: I’m tired of Carito’s character/personality, it’s completely unnecessary.)

Luciana finds Miguel in the wine cellar. He starts going on about how they can start planning their wedding but Luciana wants to talk to him about that. She tells Miguel that she actually can’t marry him and HIS ENTIRE FALL JUST FALLS AND CRUSHES MY HEART. Seriously, though, can Luciana stop stringing him along? I need him to be happy. He says, “Why not, my love?” she says, “ Because when we get married I want it to be for love”. He tells her they are just speeding the inevitable up. Luciana has also decided to move back to Mexico. You can really hear/see Miguel’s heart breaking. He needs to know if that's the only reason why she doesn't want to marry him. She says she wants to make sure that they get married for the right reasons. Miguel hugs her and swears that he loves her and if it means that he has to leave his life in California to go with her, he will. Luciana actually looks disappointed at the last part.

Mark wants to know when he will be able to move back into the house. Susan doesn't want to rush things.

Carito and Perla are still semi-plotting. Carito isn’t too sure about informing ICE about Luci and Miguel because she doesn’t want Miguel to end up in jail. Perla tells her that there is probably a way to not get Miguel into any legal trouble. Now that’s a plan that Carito can get behind! ( What is she hoping to accomplish? Even with Luci gone, why would Miguel go with Carito after all that?)

Luciana and Miguel stroll along the barrels and Luciana is adamant that she should go alone to Mexico. Miguel deserves better. He says he knows that she is taking that decision because she loves him and cares about their relationship.

In Buenos Aires, Grace and David are having brunch and making plans to visit an art museum. But David has something else in mind. David hesitates to answer a call from Cesar. Cesar is such a good friend and advises him on the whole Luciana-and-Miguel-wedding situation.

Luciana and Miguel announce that the wedding is off and that tomorrow she’s going back to Mexico much to Carito and Perla’s delight, who high-five each other in front of everyone else. As soon as Luciana and her family leave the room to talk, Carito pounces on Miguel saying that Luciana is stupid and that she would marry him tomorrow if necessary. Miguel tells her not to get ahead of herself, if he and Luci aren’t getting married just yet it's because they love each other.
The only thing that she and Perla lament is that they won't be able to take down Luci. Carito says that although Miguel doesn’t love her, her consolation prize is that he won’t be marrying Luciana. (What kind of consolation prize is that? How demented do you have to be for that to be enough to satisfy you?)

Marta lets Lilian know that she is going downtown to pick things up for Luciana. Lillian heard that
Luciana is getting married. Marta must be proud that her daughter inherited her knack for manipulating men. Marta comes back with the best comeback that I’ve heard in while on this show, “While it rains men for some women, others have to crawl on their knees just to get some.” Lillian put down her cup of tea and leaps to her feet so fast and says that she is only telling the truth (which I’m starting to agree with to be honest). Marta informs Lil that the wedding is off and for some reason feels the need to explain that it's all because of love. Marta also wants to know why Lil is so mean and Lil honestly says that it's because it's her hobby and she wants them to leave. I like Marta less and less with each passing episode.

Back in Buenos Aires, Grace rubs the gift that she bought for Luciana and Miguel in David’s face. Also, his big surprise for her was a day of exhibitions and museums (which I thought was the initial plan). As they are about to walk out, David gets a call for Luciana. Of course he takes the call!

Bobby stands to up his bullies, bless his soul. One of his bullies’ has a conscience and now wants to be his friend!

Marta goes the Brian’s office to ask him for help with Luciana’s Visa. He says that he will do everything in his power.

Grace and David talk art in Buenos Aires. You can see sparks are semi flying. David looks into it. But he wants to go visit his children.
Fer seems to be getting somewhere with Tano. He even holds her hand! She promises to be a better day. She gives him a kiss on the cheek and HE LOOKS INTO IT.
Miguel planned a romantic dinner in the wine cellar and the get ready to spend their last dinner together.

I need more from this novela, people! I need Luciana to make up her mind already or be close to making up her mind.

Sonia- I'm emerging from lurkdom to say thank you. All you terrific recappers deserve more than this show is giving you right now.

I was struck while reading your recap, that Perla and Carito went from discussing their human trafficking jobs, to plotting to sic ICE on Luci over a simple fiance visa. What idiots! Who do they think would have the most to lose if ICE starts poking around the vineyard? They should be trying to avoid any kind of law enforcement entity at all costs if they don't want their own stupid butts to go to jail for a long, long time.

Welcome back and a thanks Sonia

"Seriously, though, can Luciana stop stringing him along?"

Is Miguel stupid too? David is but now Miguel. What kind of excuse is I love you but won't marry until I love you and Miguel accepts? It's easy to fool a fool in love.

That said, Luciana was down for gettin down with Miguel until David took off on his trip with Graciela. Life was good as long as she thought she had David on a string she could reel in occasionally only to stuff Miguel in his face and repeat and repeat and repeat. She's playing with both of them and she is not that much a prize.

Surprised Luciana called David but not surprised she coped an attitude and didn't tell him she was leaving his employ. She could at least have done it as a professional courtesy.

Awesome Bobby got a friend and busted up the grade school gang. Oh, thanks Fernanda for being a big sis.

David feels guilty for breaking the bro code and hope he doesn't lose the only true friend he's got.

Vivi, so funny, I had the same thought about Perla and Carito about calling ICE on Luciana. They will take the fall not Juan or Mark

Thanks, Sonia! I actually watched. How frustrating! Tofie. EVERYbody is stupid on this show--it's like Green Acres! Who's the Oliver, the only one with sense? Cesar, for sure. How does he stand it! I knew Leo was stupid but he confirmed it by recommending Brian as a good man that Marta deserves! Jeezopete! And just what I didn't want to see, stoopid David totally under Disgracie's spell! Did you see him melting and the whirlpools in his eyes as DisGracie stroked his arm! GAH!

You know what. I change my mind. Not everybody is stoopid. Lilli, Juan, DisGracie, Marta AND Luci are puppetmasters, Cesar is the only honest and smart person in the bunch and everybody else is STOOPID!

Thanks, Sonia!

Thanks, Sonia. Fine job.

Marta also wants to know why Lil is so mean and Lil honestly says that it's because it's her hobby

That was my favorite Lillian moment so far.

Vivi, you sure zoomed in on how colossally stupid Perla and Carito are. Can't wait for the day Perla gets busted and Juan leaves her holding the bag.

Miguel is in love and denial. Looks like he's going to have to witness Luciana and David in a hot clinch.

David was cold to Luciana on the phone, so I can see why she didn't go on and tell him what's happening.

Welcome back and thank you, Sonia.

Vivi and tofie...Yes, Perla and Carito make quite the BRain Trust. Doh.

Miguel needs to realize that Luciana does not love him the way that he loves her. Best to rip off the bandage and move forward in search of someone who deserves his eager love and devotion. So..Did she tell him that she loves him , but she doesn't L.O.V.E him, love him? I have had enough of her. I do not know whether to blame the actress or the writers for how blah this character has become. She makes me want to go take a nap.

Captain DisGracie appears to getting more and more arrogant as she harpoons Moby Dave and prepared tompull him in.

Dave evidently has his life coach CEsar on speed dial .

Fer did seem to be getting Tano's attention . Perhaps his time in that cell made him realize that he is in over his head with Soosan and her abusive mate Markme.

In that scene in English in GUt's office, I thought Gut was telling LEon and Marta that he couldn't do anything to help Luci , but LEon was saying yes, we appreciate you and know that you will help her. Huh? Did Leon not understand what gut was saying or did the writers or actors get the dialogue wrong?

Thanks, Sonia. I saw just enough of this last night to get that the wedding was off. I'm annoyed with Miguel for proposing marriage in front of a crowd in the first place. In his mind, this relationship is totally in the bag and there's no question that everything will go exactly the way he envisions it. Even now, he seems not to doubt that.

Funny how news of the marriage proposal reached David's ears, but the crisis that prompted it never did. Will he blame Gracie for not letting him know that Luciana's visa was expiring? I doubt it. Even if he does, Gracie will find a way to wiggle out of it.

Dave has been sleepwalking. Despierta , Dave!!!! Time to notice that something wicked this way comes and get proactive to stop it.

Sonia: Welcome Back!

Susanlynn: Leon just doesn't seem to get the HINT of what Gutierrez has said!

Julie: Graciela is 100 steps ahead of everyone else LOL.

Niecie: Lillian is the typical dictator, who likes to boss people around LOL.

Tofie: I'm not that surprised that Perla & Carito are scheming to have ICE get Luciana. Mark my words: KARMA will bite Perla & Carito real soon, especially Carito.

Thanks Sonia! Sometimes these episodes can be difficult to write about because the plot line gets so frustrating. Thank you for your hard work in recapping the story for us all.

I too was thinking about how Perla and Carito were so gleeful about the prospect of Luciana getting arrested for marriage fraud. Hey, didn’t Carito stop to think about that with marriage fraud for immigration purposes, Miguel could get in trouble too, if arrested? However, in their case, if Luciana and Miguel went through with the marriage, I am quite sure that ICE would not consider it a fraudulent marriage. Most marriages done for these reasons, the two parties do not even know each other. Many times they are mail order brides. In other cases, a couple marries, but never live together or consummate their marriage. In Luciana and Miguel’s case, they have known each other since they were kids. She came back and Miguel was always in love with her. They are a real couple who have a history, not a phony couple where one party receives a “fee” for marrying the other. Even if they were questioned by the immigration authorities, they would be hard pressed to see this as a fraudulent marriage because if they did get married, they would move in together, sleep together, etc….Miguel’s story could have been, “I’ve always been in love with Luciana. I missed her so much when she was gone. Now that she was going to have to leave, I could not see myself living without her.”

Yep, Perla and Carito seem to have cognitive dissonance regarding their participation in this human trafficking scheme with Juan. That’s not even the pot calling the kettle black. It’s more like the pot calling the stainless steel kettle black when it’s obviously stainless steel.

Did everyone catch the part where Perla and Carito did that high five (or low five) at the table when Luciana announced the wedding wasn’t going to take place? I wish someone would really slap some sense into Carito. If she were my daughter (and obviously she doesn’t have a mom to wisely advise her) I’d tell her to have some pride in herself and stop chasing a guy who has eyes for someone else. It just makes her look so pathetic.

I was frustrated when Luciana called David and didn’t bother to tell him she was leaving. Yes, he was in the middle of something, but he did answer, so it wouldn’t have hurt for her to say: “My visa was expiring. Miguel and I were going to get married, but we decided not to. Now I’m going back to Mexico because my worker visa never came through. See ya’ around!”

Cynthia..The one thing that we can always count on in telenovelas is that people usually do not use logic. Tools of the trade are always miscommunication or no communication. It can be muy frustrating.

I know Susanlynn. But Luciana should have just HINTED that something was wrong.

I am confused. Are Sonia and Urban the same person? I don't know who to thank.

Helen: Maybe "Sonia" is her pen name. Ant: You doing double duty?

RetiredinFlorida: No Urban Anthropologist and Sonia are different people. Urban has been receiving the recaps from Sonia and Urban has been posting up up on this blog on Sonia's behalf.

Urban Anthropologist kindly posted Sonia's recap. Urban always credits Sonia at the top! :D

Er, rather, Sonia put a note at the top identifying herself as the recapper!

Good work, Sonia, and I agree: I want more from this series. While the writers of PyP totally made me lose my temper over their unrealistic rehab of Eladio at least they gave us good dialogue.

One more thing about Luciana's visa: Her mother and brother are now legal residents if not citizens. That should work in her favor. Also, she isn't an unskilled worker destined to pick grapes and plow fields. She is a college graduate with an agricultural degree and one that is specifically useful in California. When is somebody going to realize this?

Great point, Vivi, about ICE looking into this. They would be all over the vineyard looking at everything... and Carito and Perla would end up in the slammer. Which would serve them right.

More later.

Thanks to all of you who helped clear up my confusion about Urban and Sonia. Also, thank you Sonia for your recap. I sure hope things start to move soon because I really don't care about what's going on with any of these characters or the story at this point.
Helen

Sonia--Mil gracias. I love your style. Yes, you are back, better than ever, though the telenovela isn't.

Urban--I agree that more should be made of Luciana's degree, if not for immigration purposes, but first and foremost at David's vineyard. Yes, she was hired while David was still in him grumpy funk state, but once he came to, he should have promoted her--long before SoooSan ever arrived. (That would have been one less story to worry about.) We only see her in the vineyards clipping dead leaves off the vines and rearranging the grapes, smooching with Miguel, arguing with David, and sometimes with a clipboard in hand. Miguel seems to be the only one who really does double duty outside and in. What a guy!

What could also happen is an investigation into why Marcos and Luciana were deported while Marta and Leon were not. Brian will definitely have to pay for that, but he could probably rat Lillian out successfully since everyone knows she's had it in for Marta for a long time.

Anita..Don't forget that when LUci is in her office, she always holds a pencil to let us know "See, I am working!" Re: props are important. ...Case in point, DIsgracie holding her paint brush whilst in a state of undress " See, I am an artist."

Anita - Wasn't Soosan already at the vineyard before Luci returned from Mexico? I thought she was.

David would be crazy to give Susan's job to Luci. She just graduated from college. She has very little practical experience. Now, for beanie-fitting purposes I could probably overlook that (since there are much more potent beanie-busters in this TN), but it really did make sense for David to hire someone with more experience.

I don't like the Susan/ewMark story, and I'm not crazy about the Susan/Tano story, but I am interested in the Tano/Fer story, and Susan ties into that. She could also turn out to be instrumental in bringing down Juan, since her connection to Mark could enable her to find out very incriminating things. So, I still like Susan in this TN, even if I'm not happy with where her storyline is going at the moment.

I'm angry with what the writers have done to her, not to mention makeup and hair. This hair is awful and not just on this actress. The curls in combination with that coloring makes her look cheap. She needs her hair to be all one natural color in order to be taken seriously as a pro at anything legit.

I'm sorry to be late to the party today Sonia. Your recap was crisp and refreshing and very well written. Thank you.

Your comment "You can see sparks are semi flying" was well phrased and captured the scene perfectly. I was dismayed to see David becoming less rigid, more relaxed and a bit calmer in Graciela's presence. As Anita noted yesterday, she is winning him over oh so seamlessly. Ack.

I think Tano has always liked Fernanda. He has always had a smile for her and seems to enjoy her company, although he has always treated her with a deference usually reserved for staff to their superiors.

Of course, I felt badly for Miguel. I do think however Luci has indeed made up her mind. She is just not copping to it.

Two small comments on Marta. The other day when Lili went to comfort Fernanda, Marta pushed her way into the room, getting on the bed to comfort her. Lili looked genuinely hurt. Now of course we know Lili is gruesome, but for that small moment, I felt sorry. Also, I believe she threw something about Brian into the little snit she had with Lil last night. I so appreciate your translating the dialogue there Sonia. Marta didn't need to put the dagger in further. It's obvious she is being spoon fed in terms of men, and Lili vacuums up the crumbs.

Diana

Julie you are probably right, but I'm too lazy (or uninterested) to go back and verify. I thought Susan was introduced to a grown-up Luci, but my mind may be playing tricks and she was only being introduced to Miguel and Juan and it was Luci who was introduced to Susan and we all thought they were going to be rivals. As it was, they became friends. It would have been much more exciting to have them be rivals at their job. Well, I guess Erika can fill that role now.

Susanlynn--You had me laughing at the props. How many others can we come up with?
Gutierrez--I'm in a sergeant's uniform, therefore I'm a lieutenant
Lilian--I do nothing all day, therefore I'm the head of the household (oops, no props, maybe holding a magazine)

Cynthia: I wouldn't waste my breath on Carito because Karma is going to HIT that uppity TWIT sooner or later!

Thank you Sonia! A great recap.

I'm sitting at a table alone, I think but Miguel is annoying as hell. He's pushy and smug and doesn't take no for an answer. He has manipulated and coerced and pushed from the get go. You don't put a woman on the spot and her family ganging up was wrong. David deserves a girl who fully loves him and is all in, but the thing is, he is determined to make something happen even if the signs all point to it not being there. Lucia is wrong for leaning on him, but he doesn't make it easy for her to let him down either.

I just can't stand pushy clingy guys.

This whole tn is whack.

Sonia: The part where you recapped about Lilian and Marta's conversation, I heard the part where it rains men for some women, but I didn't get the part about some having to crawl on their knees to get some. I just heard that some women have to keep searching. But the "crawl on their knees" part is such a jab to Lilian, then that made it extra funny, than just "searching".

Delilah: I agree, Miguel is quite pushy and the wedding proposal in front of the family and friends was over the top.

Steve: I don't know about Carito. She may have a good heart there because she thinks of bringing food to the trafficking victims. At least she does have some compassion in her heart. But otherwise, she is immature and needs to develop some pride in herself regarding Miguel.

I'll sit at the annoying as hell Miguel table with you Delilah and up you a creepy as hell. Just because I believe Luciana is playing him (and David) doesn't mean I like him. Way too possessive.

Well okay then a table of three. Thank you! I'll buy the first round.

Hey! I'd like to sit at that table too. I feel sorry for Miguel, but he's desperate for something to happen that isn't going to happen. He's got their whole future planned out, and seems to regard Luci as rightfully his. If she doesn't seem eager enough, he assumes that she'll come around in time. ARGH. ERIKA WE NEED YOU!!!!

Julie: Erika will likely be getting Miguel & get him out of town altogether.

Well good riddance. I don't hate Miguel, but if he got lost in a thick thatch of grapevines I wouldn't miss him.

Urban. I only really want to see David and Luciana together. Mig is sweet but also kinda very annoying. He's a bit pushy. And she's so nice and won't tell him to back off. And David is as blind as a bat. He either won't or cant See how his loving family is Crapin all over him. Including his braty kid, Not Bobby that other one... ...the girl. Lucy'll make up her mind.
It would be great if she came back richer than the ewings. My wishful thinking.

Delilah, he'd just eat his way out of the grapevine just to annoy you.lol:)

Thanks Urban.
