Vino el Amor - Episode #63-Friday 1/27/2017: Esta Historia te Atrapa--and How
We’re as trapped as those poor undocumented
border crossers Juan has. We might have more fun on a scavenger hunt game,
cruising the aisles of the nearest Wall*Verdes browsing the shelves hunting for
all the products they advertise on Vino.
[Some
scenes have been combined.]
Ni modo—Here is Lo De Ayer
Graciela, in her slinky, low-cut,
spaghetti-strap, black cocktail pants suit, tomato red lips and golden locks
slimes her spit all over David’s 10 o’clock shadow. It looks as though he might
be leaning in to kiss her, but maybe he just lost his balance. Gracie pulls
away and apologizes. His clear blue eyes look after her with interest as she
walks away.
Meanwhile Perla and Juan spit at each other
over their next steps in the police-human trafficking net closing in on them.
Juan has changed his mind. He’s staying. Perla says he can’t do that to her. If
he turns chicken like his little friend Mark, she’s going to send him packing.
Juan takes that as a threat. If she doesn’t like how things are, she can take a
hike right now herself. She whirls and leaves. Juan sits down in a thinking
man’s pose as his world collapses on him. He knows it, too.
Vino Lo De Hoy
Gracie reports to Lil feeling very smug about
her avances with David. Lil tells her to remember he’s not the primary
objective. Bobby is. She reports Bobby is not very happy because his dad
decided to spend time with Grace rather than play fútbol with him. Lil reminds
her how important it is for Grace to make headway with him. Gracie doesn’t care
if Bobby doesn’t come around. She has plans for him that do not include having
to gain his affection. She’s been
looking into fútbol boarding schools in Spain. He won’t resist going to one of
Christian’s. [It was funny how Lil
misheard Gracie and thought she was going to send him to a Christian boarding
school.] Lil perks up. She’ll be delighted to be rid of him since Bobby
doesn’t like her either.
Gracie boasts of her most recent victory with
David getting pretty close to kissing her. Lil figures that might qualify as an
avance. Grace assures her she has David in the palm of her hand. Toodle-doo.
She has to go paint.
Bobby has found Marta in the kitchen and is
complaining exactly about what Lil was reporting to Grace. He sees that
something always comes up to keep his daddy from spending time with him and
it’s all Tía Gracie’s fault. Marta explains that adults sometimes have other
things to do. She suggests they find something to do together, the three of
them. Bobby still doesn’t like Grace, but he’ll make an effort only because
Marta has asked him to.
Bobby decides to follow up on Marta’s
suggestion right away and goes looking for Grace. He calls out for her and knocks
before walking into her room, still calling her and his father. He sees the
boarding school brochure on her bed, picks it up and reads it. He sees that
attendance is for a 2-year minimum. He runs out of her room and literally runs
into Grace. He calls her and his dad liars. He doesn’t like either of them. He
takes off as she yells after him.
Fer-the-Formerbrat is in the kitchen telling
Marta how padrisimo the wine-bottle planting ceremony was. She missed having
Marta there. She asked to keep the bottle her mother had planted as a memento
and Marta thought that was nice. Fer detects some sadness in Marta and shows
some empathy and is willing to listen to Marta while she tells Fer how Brian
broke her heart. It was Brian who was instrumental in having Luciana and Marcos
deported. Fer is very concerned and if her grandmother doesn’t already know,
she’s going to tell her what kind of low-down friend she has in Brian. Big Hug.
Bobby calls his friend Charlie. Charlie
reminds him of their classmate who was sent to a boarding school after his
parents got divorced. They wanted him far away. He’s sure Bobby’s aunt and dad
want to get rid of him. Bobby surmises that’s probably what they wanted to talk
about but didn’t want him around while they discussed it. After he hangs up,
Bobby says to himself that he has to do something and runs out of David’s
office.
Juan is still at his apartment trying to
figure things out when Mark shows up. The two argue in English. Juan swears he
has a plan. [This is the most idiotic,
hare-brained scheme I’ve ever heard of, especially coming from an attorney.]
Mark is to plead guilty to domestic violence. He won’t do any jail time,
guaranteed—he’ll be out on bail and at trial, he’ll most likely be sentenced to
a once a week anger-management class. This means they can go on working on
their Get-Rich-Quick-Scheme-By-Having-a-Shoot-Out-At-The-OK-Corral with El
Coyote. Two against one is a no-brainer. Mark warns Juan if he goes down, Juan
goes down, too. [I betcha he’s right and
there’s no “if “ but “when” in that scenario.] Juan is sure he can win.
Mark doesn’t look too reassured.
Luci and Miguel are in the employee’s mansion
discussing Susan and Tano’s situation. While Luci chews on something, Miguel
asks her again not to expose herself to the danger Mark poses. David arrives on the scene saying he’d like
to speak to Luci. Miguel doesn’t take the hint and doesn’t leave. David tells
Luci he talked to her mother and is sorry for what happened to her and is
withdrawing his support for Brian. Standing behind Luci, Miguel is seething
inside, spoiling for another round of verbal swagger. David and Luci are having
a nice exchange of thank yous on their Merry-Go-Round [endlessly around and around] but Miguel can’t stand it any longer
and jumps on the Merry-Go-Round with them.
He tells David it won’t be long before he and
Luciana won’t be depending on David to resolve their problems. The one who will
be taking care of this family will be himself. Luci is speechless. David just
eyes Miguel. He finally says he knows Miguel can take care of Luci, but Marta
has been part of his family for a long time and as long as they are here, he
will continue to support and help them. Miguel makes a move toward David, but
Luci blocks him with her body and thanks David again. David leaves. Luci lights
into Miguel. What was the matter with him? Miguel says it upsets him that David
is constantly butting into her life. Luci says it’s not butting in. He’s
genuinely concerned about his employees. She rattles off the names of all the
people David has helped. Miguel concedes the point, but, he comes in close to
make another point, when it comes to Luci, it’s different. He reminds her that
once they are married, they’ll be the family and the one that will be taking
care of them is himself.
Miguel and Luci continue arguing. Miguel
doesn’t understand why she’s so angry with him. He was just telling David what
he thought. Luci says it bothers her that he is so rude to David and acts so
possessive about her in front of him. Migi replies that he can’t help it. He
gets jealous over the attention the boss pays her. The only thing Migi wants to
do is protect her and her family. That’s what a couple does, right? Yes, and Luci
is grateful for that, but she doesn’t want him to be like that with her.
Miguel states that to him it seems she only
wants David’s help. Why is it she thanks David for his help, but him, she asks
him to leave her alone to resolve her problems. She tells him he needs to stop
making plans for both of them. They have no idea what could happen tomorrow.
She wants to live it day-by-day. [But,
but, this is the same young lady who led Miguel to believe she was on board
with their plans for going into business together and having land and a
vineyard of their own. OK, things have changed, but shes should already have
told Miguel this.] Exasperated and hurt, Miguel has had enough. He tells
her he no longer wants her to feel obliged to stay with him. [Wow! That’s a turn-around. After all those
years of dreams, yearnings and pursuit, it only took one argument for him to
decide he can get along without her? Hmm. Does someone named Erika have anything
to do with this?] He doesn’t want to force her. He tells her to think about
it, because he doesn’t want to continue like this either.
Joselo gets a very brief update and another
excuse from Gracie about her paintings. Gracie practices her Sendel phone throwing style.
Marta comes looking for Bobby to offer him
some milk and cookies. When she doesn’t find him, she goes to tell David. David
panics. The two of them are about to start looking for Bobby when Grace joins
them. She doesn’t think there is anything to worry about and urges David to
calm down. She says she saw Bobby awhile ago and he wasn’t in a very good mood.
David asks if he said anything. She answers no, nothing. She’ll check with Lil.
The other two go off looking for Bobby. As they leave, Grace looks worried.
She’s probably reminded of her last encounter with Bobby.
Susan is in the employee’s quarters
kitchen/dining area when her phone rings. She looks at the phone as if it were going
to bite her and doesn’t want to touch it. She knows it’s Mark. She finally
picks it up. He tells her he’s watching her. She hangs up she runs around
checking windows and double locking the doors.
Lilian is approached by Grace with the news
that Bobby is missing. Lilian is sitting comfortably on the patio drinking wine
and reading, “Learn a Wicked Awesome Boston Accent.” Grace asks her help in
looking for Bobby. Lil looks under the table and says, nope, he’s not here.
Gracie tells her about her suspicion that Bobby saw the boarding school
brochures she left out on her bed because he told her he doesn’t like her any
more. Lilian tells her David will never forgive her for that. Grace knows it. It
was careless of her. If it’s true, Lil says it behooves her to think of how
she’s going to explain it to David.
David, meanwhile is running around among the
rows of vines yelling Bobby’s name and trying to reach him on his cell when he
runs into Luciana. Luci learns what the problem is and tells him he needs to
calm down. He’s sure it’s his fault for not choosing to play fútbol with Bobby.
They go look together. They run into Gracie, who now exhibits fake proper
panic. She’s all over David with worry, especially since…the two of them were
alone together….not paying attention. She says she feels terrible and proceeds
to move in and grab David, making sure Luci is watching. Luci can’t hold it
back. She tells Grace to cut it out and help look for Bobby. Hugging David
isn’t going to get it done. The two start arguing. David thinks they should
keep looking. Luci suggests Bobby’s favorite hideouts.
Fer-theFormerbrat and Marta can’t find him
either. They agree to split up and Fer volunteers to go back to the employee’s
quarters. There, she runs into Tano and he offers to help her look. They end up
in the vineyard offices, but no Bobby. Tano thinks she’s getting upset over
nothing. She feels at fault for not being a better sister and paying more attention
to him. She thanks him for his help and earns him a warm hug from Fer.
Susan hears someone knocking at the door. She
doesn’t open until she hears Miguel’s voice. He’s looking for Luci. She breaks
down. She’s afraid. Mark called her. He’s stalking her. Migi assures her he’s there
to take care of her. He brings her tea. He offers to call Tano. No. She
explains that she’s come to realize she doesn’t love him. Miguel says that Tano
loves her. She’s not sure how she feels about him. She cares for him a lot and
is grateful to all the care and attention Tano gave her, but it isn’t love.
When you love, she says, you don’t have doubts.
There is a rendezvous of the searchers. No one
has seen Bobby. Fer suggests they call Charlie and Lilian suggests calling
Gutierrez—turning the knife in Marta’s heart about 45⁰. Luci is sure Bobby will
show up, even though Marta is not so sure. Will calling Gut bother her? No, she
feels finding Bobby is more important.
Now, finally, Sonia gets in the act. She’s comes
in the kitchen, checking cabinets as possible hiding places. León enters as she
checks the toaster oven, just in case. He finds out about Bobby and offers to
help. No, his offer is turned down since he doesn’t care for anyone—except himself.
[Ouch] León thinks she’s angry for a
misunderstanding, like the novelas they like. No, she says he’s not a hero, but
the villain. He asks her to wait a minute, but she moves past him, nose in the
air and says that now she’s the one who doesn’t have time for him.
Lilian calls Gut. He responds to her plea. He’ll
get the posse out. All that’s missing in this part of the story are the horses,
spurs and six-guns. Before he heads out he gets an update on El Coyote. He
wants it understood that under no circumstances is this guy to be killed. He
wants him alive. They need to know who his contacts are here in the States.
Grace and David are still looking for Bobby.
This time they go into Lisa’s room. Marta follows them in. While they talk,
Grace sees a hand sticking out from under the bed. She hustles everyone out,
including herself.
Fer and Tano end up in the winery with the
barrels. She worries that Bobby may have gone into town by himself. She castigates herself. She should have paid
more attention to him. Nothing Tano can say about boys Bobby’s age doing stupid
things can calm her. He pulls her into his arms and holds her.
Gutierrez arrives and Marta meets him in the
living room of the big house. Lilian walks in and right up to Gut. She puts her
hands on him thanking him for coming so quickly, but he backs away. She tells
him she’s desperate and she knows he’s looking out for her and her family. Very
tersely he says he’s just doing his job. Marta tells Gut that David is on his
way down to the river and Gut heads out.
Lil isn’t done with Marta yet. She sticks the
really dull knife in further and gives it another twist. She states it was so
nice of Gut to come despite their recent break-up. Marta says zip it. The most
important thing is to find Bobby. Lil says she’s very worried about him. Marta
says she ought to be, as another tragedy would be the end of whatever is left
of her family. Under her breath, Lil says about Marta—or hers.
Luci and David meet up again somewhere out in the vineyard. David is losing
hope. He thinks Bobby may have gone to the river. He’s beside himself, thinking
the same thing could happen to him that happened to Lisa. Luci tries to be
reassuring and distracts him momentarily with an embrace. They hold on to each
other tightly.
Meanwhile, Bobby is high and dry, with only a
few dust bunnies on his back. He’s talking to his mother, who art in heaven. He
tells her all that’s happened and begs her not to let them send him to boarding
school. Gracie comes back into Lisa’s room and walks in on Bobby’s soliloquy to
his mother. She speaks to him sharply.
Credits roll—no avances. Curious.

And, I noticed last few days Luciana hasn't kissed and played grabby with Miguel incessantly but is that because she's jealous of Erika and punishing Miguel or worries about Graciela and David kissing and he's slipping out of her orbit or rethinking the comprehensive plans they made to marry, enter a business partnership, start a family and San Francisco Miguel or does she want to San Francisco David now, though she rejects his tentative advances? Whats up?

Can't a boy have some quiet time without calling the National Guard. I think Bobby needs a bike and a tree house fort.

Little Bobby had another notable encounter with an adult too. Did 'anyone' remember when he ran into Marta right before the Boarding School events and he sweetly noticed Marta looked sad and asked her why? Marta brushed him off telling him it was "Grown up stuff" and her ran out saying no one ever tells him anything.
The writers must assume that if they still have anyone along on this show, we are not the sharpest knife in the drawer and need help. When even something pretty obvious happens, we have a tiny low down or stop in action and a very loud lower C from the piano for accent. Like when Sobbing Susan let Miggy into the Kitchen and told him she don't love her No Tano, after Luci had in essence, (to Miguel) told him the same thing, we had a DONG in the background. Luci was pretty diplomatic about it, but she needed to tell him long ago she accepts his love, but not by lethal injection.
When he made his little pissed Chichuachua move toward his boss David should have fired Miggy right on the spot. He could tacitly explain he has a policy of not employing anyone who might at the drop of a hat try to whip his ass and give him his pink slip. If Miggy were a dog he would be banned from the dog park.
Lillian can be as evil as she wants with the adults, they are adults and the onous in on them to figure out the face of Satan talking to them. But her cavalier attitude concerning Bobby's whereabouts guarantees her place in HELL. She hoped he would not ever be found. There is a special very warm place for people like her.

However, I don't think she's done enough homework because Bostonians are very insular. I doubt they would think she is from any prominent Boston family and she's also likely to slip up. She will have no game in New England, but she won't get that far.
Gracie will attempt to use finding Bobby to her own advantage but she should only succeed at this if Bobby has any track record of lying. I don't think he does and I don't think David would want to send him away to school if he is unwilling to go. As mentioned before, Lillian's cavalier attitude toward Bobby's disappearance should be a red alert to David.

Firstly, I need to thank UA for Thursday's recap. It was excellent as usual. Anita, thanks for yesterday's recap which, as noted by Niecie, seems to offer some glimmer of movement in an otherwise snail-paced story. Ojalá que siga. Happy weekend all.

Anita, I forgot to say how much I enjoyed the recap as well as the comments you made which had me smiling. Some were "verbal swagger", "employees mansion "' and especially " All that is missing in this part of the story are the horses, spurs, and six guns." Muchas gracias as always.

UA said...." attitude toward Bobby's disappearance should..." I noticed a couple of expressions on David's normally expressionless face as though he was in disbelief at some point when he was in proximity to lillian and Bobby was pseudo-missing. I like Bobby more every episode.
It should be a clue to David that DisGracie's help in finding Bobby pretty much amounted to stumbling along behind him when possible as he looked for his son, and gloming onto him whenever she actually caught him.

Kirby.yes..I got a giggle watching both Disgracie and Luci being no help at all as they stumbled through the vineyard after Dave. At least Luci wasn't grabbing at him like Disgracie. That girl needs a lecture about personal space.

It will be fitting if my micro hero Bobby is the one who is instrumental in taking down AFH and her daughter DWT. (see Lucifer above)
During their WikiLeaks planning session Abuela from..was telling Devil with .. that she must pay attention to every small detail. "The Devil is in the details, Grace." Then I thought I heard something like 'Bobby is very intuitive' or similar, and her admonition to not underestimate the kid.
At least sometimes Luci wears sensible shoes, rather than stripper spikes clamoring after their prize.

Susanlynn, I laugh every time at Bo-bee, Boo-bee and just plain Bobby. They all say it differently.

Anita, loved this. "Fer-the-Formerbrat", and "Gracie practices her Sendel phone throwing style" were among many favorites.
I thoroughly enjoyed the writers throwing us a few fun bones. Sonia consistently brightens my day (just by being in it) but her searching for Brian in the lower kitchen cabinet and "she checks the toaster oven, just in case" made my night. And I loved Lili's reading material and sincerely hope we get to hear her attempt to mimic a true Boston accent. I am a transplanted Jersey girl who still would not think of trying to imitate a true Bostonian, even after living here over 40 years.

Thank you, Anita! What a joyful rendition, much better than this keystone cops episode. There were a few tee hee moments: guess the writers are trying to amuse themselves: the Christian school mistake, Sonia looking in the toaster oven, all the "I'm skeerd, hold me" moments. I just hope Bowby doesn't let the Ice Queen snow him about the boarding school.

Even in Bobby's own little (understandably) selfish kid world, he knows his Father pretty well, even if he would feign not to out of hurt and jealousy, or fear of being sent away. It would be a stretch for DisHonestGracie to convince him that his own Daddy had some fiendish grownup scheme to sent him away for what may as well be forever.
I partly say that because David seems to be slowly coming out of intellectual hibernation. I have noticed a couple of funny looks at DisGrace and Lillian Abuela de Hades lately and surely that dim bulb must be flickering to life slowly.
I would be all for Brian earning his redemption bringing down Mark and Juan and Hurla. And in parallel Bobby outing Lillian and Gracie. It would not be a perfect world, but it would be several notches above what we have now.

Bill.....They did a great job on the song last night, and....I did think of Miguel when they sang it !!!...the line about "make it to the border of Mexico" made me grin a bit. Only two guys in the group now instead of the original three , but they were good ,especially Dewey . His voice is as good as ever. Rock on, Dewey.

What was I thinking. I wrote about Erika juggling, Thank you for overlooking my transgressions. I meant Luci aerosol.
Seriously, though: other than Sonia's 80s novela-style dismissal of Leon (Veronica Jaspeado is definitely rivaling Mar Contreras as the actor doing the most with what they've given, and Sonia and Leon are fast becoming the sole source of sweetness and light other than Erika's painted-on pants) and Lilian's inexplicable taste in books--OTOH, if we actually get Azela Robinson doing something resembling a Boston accent at some point in this fakakta show that may be lifetime pass level material--Miguel's simultaneously jealous and sane snit at David and Luciana stuck out like a sore thumb. It was so weirdly abrupt, IMO, even in context (as much of a macho meathead as he is WRT Luci, the point that she does often run to David over him is valid)...almost as if he somehow leveled up massively in self-awareness or subconsciously wanted an out because he was starting to feel a twinge of something for Erika, sort of like Sonia WRT Leon.
Back to Susan for a minute, who's gone from a confident and strong woman/confidant to a perpetually crying and/or freaked out mess locking herself in the Servants' Luxury Townhouse. Am I the only one who's annoyed by...well, not the end result as much as the road we were stuck on to get us here? (See previous "weirdly abrupt" comment. I can't pin down why it bugs me, but it does. I suspect most of it is due to (o hai) Mark.) OTOH, at least her friends and co-workers are rallying behind her; David going straight to Imma-kill-a-bitch when he found out was almost pleasantly welcome (partially because David doing anything emotional at this point is pleasantly welcome).

OMG! Susanlynn! You saw Christopher Cross! I LOVE "Ride like the Wind"! When it comes up on my ipod Touch in the car, it's hard not to press the pedal to the medal. Oh yeah, I be ROCK-in'!

OT...Christopher Cross was very mellow and laid back just as I thought he would be. I love "Sailing." When be sang "Laura", he showed photos of Hus friend whose death inspired him to write that song. Do you know the story of how the band America was started? The three original members all attended high school together in London where their military dads were stationed. I guess that is why I always thought that they were British.

Susanlynn--WRT The Strong Woman theme, I think we have to put Luci in the Weaker Vessel now, along with Susan and, yes, Marta (WRT Lilian).
In the beginning, Luci was full of spit and fire, self-confidence, independence (for a young woman her age), not at all reluctant to express her opinions and feelings to anyone. Those were qualities Migi actually said he admired (so did David). She has backslid a bit, IMHO.
Now, even though it seems like she possesses those same qualities, she's just waffling between two men, one who is dour and too old for her and the other who is overbearing and possessive (and unarguably handsome) and who would rather stifle her independence. What Migi says and does are the same side of the same coin. He feels she needs protection and insists on taking care of her (read that--making her decisions for her) and repeats it endlessly and puts his hands all over her to emphasize the fact. (Tofie noticed that there hasn't been too much wrap-around arms and kissy-face initiated by Luci lately. That's a hopeful sign.)
If Migi were anyone but who he is, he would be listening to what she said and not given *her* the ultimatum to "think about it."

He might be overbearing in his devotion to Luci, but I keep thinking of all the positive galanly things he has done..his kind treatment of and trying to help both Marta and Susan...holding Leon back from confronting a guy much bigger and stronger. He is definitely the kind of guy who wants to protect the weaker with his strength. His affections are misplaced, but when he finds a woman who wants and returns his devotion...wowwee. OT - Lila, I've read Outlander from cover to cover twice, but I'm jealous that this is your "first time." Not to discourage you, but I think the writing in the 1st volume is superior (in sex and romance) to the others--and according to interviews and discussions, this was D.G.'s "practice" novel. I wish they had been able to stay in 18th C. Scotland. For an American, she sure got it right. (Besides, I drool over men in kilts.) My grandson's graduation from Hamilton College (mid-state NY) has the entrance of the gowned faculty and staff accompanied by bagpipes and kilt-wearing guys. VERRA Impressive.

OT..Anita..I agree, the original novel is the best. Diana Gabaldon wrote it to see if she could write a novel after seeing a highlander on Doctor Who while she was a college science professor with three very young children . I think we are all ready for Erika to make another move. Anita: "it seems to me that Migi wants to make it Luci's fault." Issuing ultimatums is the passive-aggressive way to manipulate her into being the bad guy. In a sense, she really is the bad guy, in that she's hedging her bets with him and David at the same time, so Miguel really doesn't have to go through so much trouble to make it her fault. If he's not happy, he's well within his rights to end it, without the fuss and bother of an ultimatum - but then he doesn't get to be the victim.
It really is odd that more people aren't getting busy on this show. A whole vineyard full of scantily clad, hot, young people, you'd think more of them would be partying naked.

Thank you Anita, I had a busy weekend. My husband and I celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary, so I paid more attention to him than the TV or the computer. He's working out of town during the week, so we normally don't see each other till the weekends.
I just had the chance to read this and as always you did an excellent job. I can't say anything more than what everyone else has already talked about. I just can't stand that DisGracie and all her deceptions. Of course she wants to send Bobby to boarding school!

Perla and Juan just aren't that interesting and pleeeassse....I do not ever want to see Gutierrez and Lil in bed again. That coupling just grosses me out completely. Bill C.--The Gracie-Joselo coupling was done in a flash. It was during her first trip to San Francisco, at his insistence to see about the exhibit. He wanted her to stay the night, but she merely serviced him quickly and left. We only saw him halfway on the bed and she standing on the floor at the end of the bed. I think at the time they were both fully dressed. The second time she went to San Francisco, she never gave him a chance to get her up to his room. She left immediately.
Susanlynn--For a title, I actually like your The Censors Fell Asleep, even though it wasn't meant to be a title. I would change Censors to Sensors. Not much sensing going on worth raving about.

Nina--They only made it look like Migi and Luci did it in the cava. Everything was set up for a night of seduction. We saw the beginning, but we didn't see any middle or any end--next thing we saw was Luci was re-dressed and leaving their blanket on the floor.

Nina: AIUI the last-minute "We're killing you off and/or recasting your character, now get out" cut has to have happened in English-language soaps on general principle, but it seems to be very rare. I think you have to be a literal walking disaster area to get that kind of treatment (see also: Charity Rahmer, Days of our Lives, 2004).
