La Piloto #5 3.13.17: In Which Yolanda Lands a Plane...

• Yolanda showers and thinks about flying with John and her potential dinner date with Dalberto. Dolores knocks on the door and tells her to get out ASAP and Yolanda obliges.
• In the men’s locker room, Dalberto give Hector, the security guard, the watch he stole from Ines’ office. Hector is bothered by the fact that he only stole a watch but Dalberto reminds him it’s a good watch. He suggests that Hector give him the keys to Zequi’s office so that they can steal a lot more valuable merchandise and split it 50/50. Hector agrees. That night, Dalberto bugs the phone in Zequi’s office and takes pictures of some invoices.
• Arley is in the waiting area for Centro America Air when Amanda walks by and he stops her. He compliments her looks and invites her for coffee but she has to go. He wants to talk to her a little more and tells her that he works for a security company. She’s impressed but insists she has to go so he asks for her number. She hesitates so he gives her his phone and asks that she keep it so he can call her. Olivia then comes and takes her away but not before Amanda agrees and smiles at Arley.

• In the locker room, Lizbeth is pacing she’s scared about her first pickup in New York. Yolanda suggests she calm down but Lizbeth thinks the police will get her. Yolanda asks her to let go of negative thoughts because she will attract trouble. Olivia agrees and then confesses that her on-again, off-again boyfriend, Roberto, is coming to visit and she hasn’t seen or talked to him since he left to Spain. Yolanda suggests Olivia make the first move to win him back and she agrees. Just then, her phone rings and she runs off. Lizbeth leaves as well as Yolanda wishes her luck. When they’ve gone, Yolanda opens her locker to find a note, a garment bag and a small box with a cell phone inside. She smiles.
• At the ranch, Oscar pays Arley for his services and Arley confesses that Gamba told him there’s’ a mole in CAA. Oscar asks if he’s sure and Arley explains that the mole is a DEA agent though he didn’t catch the name. Either way, Arley thinks that Gamba only said that to save his life thinks Gamba played his last card and they should find out the truth.
• Dalberto and Yolanda sit down for coffee and he notices her new phone. She lies and tells him she got it new but with 24 month financing because it’s really expensive. He calls her pretty and she thanks him then confesses that a little birdie told her he was gay. Dalberto asks her if she believes it but ultimately tells her he is not. In fact, he was married but his wife passed two years ago. She’s sorry to hear that and he reminds her about their dinner date. He suggests she come over his house and he’ll cook. Just then, Yolanda receives a call form John and goes off to answer it. He is glad to see she’s using the cell phone and ell her that there is a car waiting for her outside and he would like to see her wear what he got her. She obliges, cancels her impromptu dinner with Dalberto and runs off.
• Dalberto follows her and sees he get into a taxi outside but doesn’t notice Zulima standing behind him. He runs into her and she asks him why he isn’t getting ready for his shift. He tells her that he changed shits so Zulima tells him that they have time to discuss his poor performance of late. He explains that he has a lot on his plate but she doesn’t care. She will give him one more opportunity but put a memo regarding his recent conduct in his file and he should up a copy in Ines’ office. He will do it another time but she wants it done now unless he wants to be fired. He obliges.
• Yolanda appears, in full pilot gear, at the Lucio airstrip to find John waiting for her by La Consentida. John is dazzled by her outfit and asks her if she’s ready for another lesson. She is so they get into the plane.
• Moments later, they are in the sky, training. He comments on her flying skills and she confesses that she loves being there. He tells her he likes her and they kiss. John then pulls out a champagne bottle to celebrate the occasion. He drinks first and Yolanda grabs the bottle to toast to their health and her father. Just then, John gets a sharp pain in his stomach and asks her to return the plane to the airstrip before fainting. Yolanda asks that he to wake up and help her land the plane but he’s out. She grabs the wheel firmly and works backward to land the plane safely.
• On the ground, John’s men grab him immediately and put him in the car. Yolanda gets in the backseat and they drive off toward the ranch. Yolanda doesn’t think he’ll make it and asks that they stop by a clinic on the way. The driver doesn’t want to because of Oscar’s orders but Yolanda warns him again that John could die. The driver makes a sharp turn toward the clinic.
• When they arrive, two nurses run outside and help John onto a gurney. They wheel him into the clinic and close the door as the doctor begins to work on him. John’s men continue to stare at Yolanda because Oscar has them to keep her in sight but she isn’t intimidated.
• Inside the room, John is being taken care of as John’s men surrender the perimeter and guard every entrance with guns. One of the security guards manages to grab a phone and tell the police that a drug dealer has been admitted into the clinic and they should come soon.
• Ines is getting the memo for Dalberto when he gets a text from Ortega that John Lucio is at a nearby clinic. He stealthy walks away as Ines barely notices. Outside, he steals a bike and races off.
• In the meantime, Ortega launches an operation to arrest John.
• A doctor explains to Yolanda that John is unconscious but stable and explains that he had respiratory failure because he mixed alcohol with his pills. Yolanda begs the doctor to help him any way he can and begins to pray.
• Oscar’s men explain that John had a crisis when he was flying with Yolanda. Oscar gets in the car and asks that they drive to the clinic to help him and to hurry.
• The DEA and police arrive at the clinic as John’s men go to stand guard by the main entrance. Yolanda has no idea what to do so they leave her inside. Ortega gets out of the car as Dalberto arrives and tells them they have to go inside ASAP. Monica thinks they should hold off since their men will recognize him and it could cause trouble. Alberto asks if Yolanda is inside but Monica has no way of knowing. He asks him men to be careful and not to shoot since it’s still a clinic.
• A shoot out ensues and there are multiple casualties on both sides. Inside the hospital, Yolanda asks everyone to get down low on the ground and then directs the people to a nearby room where they will be safe. Yolanda then runs into the room where they have John and takes him out another exit with his oxygen tanks. They force the doctor attending him to come with them at gunpoint. Yolanda drives away as the doctor works on John.
• Oscar tells his men to kill whomever they have to but John makes it out alive. They arrive and Oscar begins to shoot the police from the rear of their position. He then waits his chance and launches a grenade at the police, knocking down Dalberto. Dalberto falls on the floor and Monica goes to help him.
• Oscar takes the opportunity to make his way into the clinic. Inside, finds out that a woman dressed as a pilot has taken John away in an ambulance. Oscar is pissed.
• Rosalba is knitting and hearing the story of John Lucio on the news. Estela walks in, tipsy, and confesses that she can’t with the guilt of having lost her daughter. She feels alone and wants to tell her daughter that she is there for her whenever she needs it. Estela knows Rosalba talks frequently with her and wants to know if Yolanda is okay. Rosalba smiles and tells her that Yolanda’s happy and has found a good job at Centro America Air. She goes to pour Estela a cup of water so she can tell her more.
• At the ranch, Oscar arrives but John is in his room with Yolanda. He starts to wake up but can’t remember anything after their impromptu celebration on the plane. She explains that he blacked out from mixing alcohol with his pills but he’s safe now. He asks her how they got off the plane and she smiles, confessing that she landed it on her own. He congratulates her on being a model student but that’s only because she has the best teach. He goes in for a kiss but Yolanda asks him to lay back and take care of himself. He thanks her before she leaves.
• Outside, Yolanda runs into Zequi and Zulima who were “worried.” Yolanda doubts it but informs him that John’s out of danger. Zequi congratulates her and Yolanda asks him how she leaves the ranch. He tells her that John’s men will take her home, just in case. Zulima tells her to be careful and Yolanda leaves. Then, they then go inside to see John and ask him how he feels. John feels okay and Zequi informs that he spoke to Oscar and there is a mole in the airline. Zequi explains Gamba told Arley before his death and they’re sure it’s an employee. John is sure that’s house they found him in Colombia and Mexico and he asks Zequi to find the mole and burn him alive.
• Yolanda asks Oscar for a ride and he grabs her by the neck and warns her that he doesn’t want to see her again or he’ll kill her. She ‘s not scared but he warns her that he’s getting tired of her antics. He asks his men to take her way.
• Dalberto is feeling better but laments that John got away. Ortega tells him they found the ambulance, abandoned, but not all is lost because of the information he has stolen from the CAA is sure be helpful. She explains that the Lucios are possibly laundering their money through Central America providers but they will need to investigate. Dalberto agrees.
• Zequi laments having told John about the mole since he won’t sleep now but he will take care of it as best he can. Zequi then notices Zulima get close to John and say goodbye. Zequi bids John goodbye but John asks Zulima to stay a bit since his nurse hasn’t come yet. Zequi wants to take her home but John insists so Zequi asks Zulima to go in early tomorrow. He leaves and closes the door behind him. Zulima then gets up on the bed, straddles John and tells him that she’ll do all the work, all he has to do is sit back, relax and enjoy…

Thanks so much, Alfredo!

Wow. Yoli save John once again, and instead of just mustering up a grudging thank you, Oscar instead is threatening her again. He sure is jealous of anyone else getting his brother's affections.

And just to make sure we weren't starting to fall for John's nice guy act that seems to be working on Yoli, the writers showed us how easily John will sleep any other women. I sense a big fight coming between Zeki and Zuli...

Yoli once again kept her head in a crisis-- getting John real medical attention; getting all the waiting room folks to get down on the ground; finding a safe room for everyone; getting John out of the clinic; and driving an ambulance to boot! Not sure why Oscar can't see just how valuable she is.

Seems like Dave is tempting fate going on these missions where he could be spotted by someone who could spot him at the airline. How long before they find out he's the mole?

Ah, and how long before Yoli's no-good alcoholic mom turns up at her work, looking for a handout? I didn't believe her bit of theater about feeling bad for turning her back on Yoli. She's just jealous that Yoli sends her aunt money, and not her, and she wants a piece.

Thanks, Alfredo. Great job.

Ugh, Arley gives me the creeps. I don't even know Amanda, but I hope she doesn't hook up with this lowlife.

Vivi, yes, it's nuts that Oscar doesn't see Yoli's value. On the other hand, she's crafty at getting out of a tight spot so I can see him suspecting her of being the mole.

John knows full well Zeki and Zulima have a thing, so asking Zuli to stay behind and telling Zeki to close the door on his way out was just mean.

Vivi: I'm also worried about Yolonda's no-good alcoholic Mommy asking for a handout.

Niecie: Arley does give everyone the creeps! I'm afraid Amanda will make the mistake in hooking up with the LOSER.

Thanks Alfredo. Clear, concise and to the point. Not easy with these razzle-dazzle episodes running so hot and heavy.

Zulima made the first move on John. He merely accepted. She leaned in and whispered "I can take care of you" and it was clear what she meant. So he concocted the story of his regular csregiver not showing up. No doubt the impromptu treatment will help him sleep tonight after all!

And my sense is...though I could be wrong...that Zeki has a legitimate family in addition to Zulima and that's why he doesn't want her to call him at home. But whatever. Yep, we're getting the idea that John is no saint. But then we knew that already. Not sure there are any saints in this one, other than the hyper-nervous Lizbeth and she's been compromised as well.

Still enjoying this. That certainly was a sexy version of a pilot uniform. Shorts and high heels. Wowza. But ol' John didn't even score a kiss yet. No wonder he accepted Zulima's "gracious offer".

Nice to see a woman's role written where she is clear-headed in the face of a major crisis. Usually it's 20 minutes of full-out hysterics. Now if Yolanda can keep fending off the murderous Oscar we'll know she's accompanied by a squad of guardian angels.

Judy- Indeed, Zeki is a married man, and Zuli is his mistress. But like all typical machistas, neither his wife nor his mistress is allowed any other men in their lives, other than him.

Sure is an uneven playing field, isn't it Vivi?

Alfredo, Thank you much. I was Liking john but not anymore, he nasty and Hes
Not good enough for Yoli. She can do better, dalberto. He's the mole? He's better for Yolanda.Jon is not so nice, He's a user. I'm still not sure how I feel about this tn. It reminds me of those On telemundo. Drugs,DEA agents, mobsters With bad attitudes(oscar), he hates Yolanda. But she doesn't get shaken by him at all. He hates that too.She Will probably be his undoing And john's. But not before a lot of blood spills. Thanks Alfredo.

PS:Winter finally came to North Florida.YAAAAAAAH.I like cold weather.
When it's suppose to be cold.

Yoli obviously has a sense of humor, if she was willing to play along and wear that sexy pilot uniform for John. He didn't get to enjoy it for long, though, poor guy. Bet he won't mix alcohol and meds again. :-)

I'm sure the altitude sped up the effect of the pills-booze combo.

Thanks Alfredo! Using my snow day to catch up a bit earlier today.

Yeah all good will for John vanished with Zuli. I don't think he's going to be our tragic galan. Or at least he has a long way to go.

Yoli's mom def looking out for herself. With her, Oscar and John will have even more leverage over Yoli.

I can see why Oscar doesn't want Yoli around. You can look at it two ways, either she is always there to save John or she is always around when something bad happens to him. Good luck charm or angel of death?

Thanks, Alfredo. Great recap that cleared up a few mysteries for me.

Oscar's protectiveness and possessiveness for John is probably a long-developed method of self-protection. I can imagine the narco dudes have all sorts trying to sidle up to them for all sorts of nefarious reasons and Oscar probably has long had to dispatch them.

While my first reaction to John with Zuli was disgust, I'm thinking now that it isn't really that awful of him. He's courting Yolanda, but so far it hasn't really gone anywhere, so I don't see him as being obligated to be 'true' to her. Yoli wouldn't even give him a little peck good bye. Plus, I interpreted that scene as the beginning of a blow job, which I don't see as serious as full scale activities would be. *shrug* He's a rich, powerful guy with women constantly falling all over him. Yoli is no dummy and she ought to know what she's getting into with him.

Zulima, on the other hand, is disgusting. She may be thinking of a back up plan in case something happens to Zequi, but mainly I think she is jealous of John's attraction to her friend Yolanda.

By the way, I've flown quite a bit in a Cessna just like John's. I have an old friend who now owns an air taxi and flightseeing company in Alaska, but years ago, when he was working on his first professional pilot's licence, he had a little Cessna 150 and he needed to log hundreds of flight hours. Any time I - or just about anyone else- wanted to pay for gas (it took about $15 of regular gasoline like what you buy for your car), he would take me up and around. Since this was in Anchorage, the scenery was stupendous - ocean, glaciers, huge mountains. Good times.

Anyhow, those planes are tiny. To 'taxi', all you have to do is lift the tail and push it around. One person can easily do it, even on gravel. The cabin is about the size of a VW bug; it's so small your shoulders and elbows are touching. They're noisy. They're adorable. They're fun.

However, John is a terrible pilot. I can't imagine taking the risks he has taken or liberties he has taken (or actually the writers have taken) very basic, required safety procedures. There's an old saying: There are old pilots and bold pilots, but there are no old and bold pilots. John's piloting will kill him young.

But, let's face it, John has a high-risk lifestyle. :)

Carolina- Yeah, I don't think John cares about safety in ANY aspect of his life.

Vivi - so true. Don't get in a plane or even a car with him!

Sorry I didn't have time to join in the conversation. Alfredo--another gem. They just keep rolling off your fingers.

JudyB--I was sure 'ol John got his kiss just before he passed out in the plane. I was surprised they were able to keep the plane upright because it wasn't just one kiss.

You're right Anita...I remember now being nervous and wanting her to keep her eye on whatever was ahead, not to mention the altimeter! But no good-bye kiss after the near-death episode. Perhaps because she was in a more "motherly mode" then? Who knows? Anyway, enjoying this right along with all of you.
