Vino el Amor, #105, Friday Mar 31, 2017: Sour Grapes
Fernanda nervously says that she was nervous. Why were you so nervous? You studied. I don't know, I had a lot of things in my head. All you had to do is pass this exam, not to think of other things. Forget about seeing Tano for now. We're going to study until you pass this exam. And to prevent further distractions, I'm going to have your aunt and grandmother leave. NO! She can't leave! I thought your aunt would help you, but I see she didn't. Sorry, Fer, things are going to be that way.
Yes she helped me. I need her, she's the only one who understands me. Evidently that's not so, Fernanda. I can't believe you're not being serious about your future. Don't you understand the importance of going to university? I swear I studied, you saw me, we studied together. You are not taking this seriously enough. Don't you realize you're taking away all I have left of my mother? (You still have her earrings, Fernanda. I promise they're way better than Graciela.) He screams in her face, ENOUGH! Your privileges are over, and that's it!
Grace comes in and tries to calm Fernanda. Grace looks at the test results and praises Fernanda for beating her previous score. She asks Fer what happened. Fer repeats that she was nervous. "That's no excuse! I asked you to concentrate!" David exclaims. Grace points out that Fer did study. "Sure, but don't you see that wasn't enough? AGAIN you've exceeded my patience, and now things are going to start changing for you."
Fernanda is starting to panic and pant. She swears that she studied. David just shakes his head.
Carito arrives at Juan and Perla's. "I'm here to tell the whole truth." Juan says there's been a misunderstanding. Carito wants to stay at their place and work at Los Olivos. (Clever name *snort*) Juan says they're a little short on money right now and can't hire her just yet. But they will when they can, later. Juan reminds her that she needs to avoid suspicion, because it looks bad that she disappeared at a key moment of the investigation. So, in order to make everything look completely innocent, she'll need to carry on as she did before, working for David.
Carito says she's totally innocent and is afraid of Mark. Juan says Mark is a fool and he's far away, so he won't bother her. She just needs to do as Juan says.
Carito says okay, but she's going to squeal on Mark, because "what he did to me has no name." But she wants Juan and Perla to stop trafficking in illegals.
Fernanda is hyperventilating. David tells grace to call Anderson. (It's done in literally 2 seconds.) He is yelling in Fernanda's face to calm down. Strangely enough, that doesn't work.
Grace tries to calm Fernanda. She says that when she was young, Lisa was the better student ("in fact, she was better at everything," Grace asides bitterly), that made Grace feel bad, she too suffered anxiety attacks over fear of not being good at things, until she discovered that art inspired her in a way that school didn't.
"But I'm not good for anything!" David pulls Fernanda away. Grace looks really turned off. David takes Fernanda's head in her hands (like it's a basketball, the same way as when he's about to kiss Luciana) and shouts in her face, "Don't say that, sure you are, I will help you out of this, I promise, I will be at your side, but you have to calm down." "I can't breathe!"
Juan and Carito, That won't be a problem, I no longer deal with Mark. Perla says now we have Los Olivos, we're respectable members of society. Juan gives Perla a funny look. Juan says things aren't going well at David's place, so tell us everything that goes on over there so he doesn't attack us and ruin our business. Perla says that Carito will be part of Juan's business. "It will secure your future." Carito reluctantly agrees to think about it.
Fernanda is still hyperventilating when Anderson arrives. David tells the doctor about the failing test score. "We're not taking it well," he explains. Anderson wants to talk about it. He asks Fernanda if she wants her aunt to stay for the discussion. Fernanda rushes into her aunt's arms. The doctor says this appears to be a panic attack, brought on by fear-- "Why are you afraid?" David asks Fer impatiently. (OMG really you were just screaming in her face.) "I let you down. And you didn't help me at all getting upset like that, forbidding everything." (Gracie looks worried at this.) David says don't look at it that way, he just wants the best for her and her future, and that means going to a good university.
The doctor points out that we're not all cut out for traditional studies. He says he'll give Fernanda a sedative, and she shouldn't be left alone. Grace ushers her out for something to eat (I don't think she's physically capable of eating right now).
Anderson tells David, "I warned you. She's going through a very difficult stage of her life. She's very fragile."
Luci finds Bo-bee and wants to talk. "Later," he says sulkily. "I'm busy playing, like you with your work." Luci says they can talk while he plays. Bobby replies, "The truth is, I'm very mad at you. I wanted you to play with me and my friends. It was a super awesome day, and you wasn't there." Luci explains that she has a lot of work. "That's what grownups say when they don't want to play with kids," Bobby says. But Luci reminds him that they've had a lot of trouble in the vineyard. "All I want is that things could be like they were before."
"Her mother died," David tells Anderson again, "and that wasn't my fault." Anderson tries to guilt David for the time he was too depressed to spend time with Fernanda. David says that he's been trying to make up for that ever since he came out of his depression, but what can he do to get his daughter back?
Anderson says, "This crisis was a wake-up call. She already tried to kill herself once. If she tries again, she might not be as lucky as she was the first time. You'd better do something, because this just proves to us that subconsciously, all Fernanda wants is death."
Luci tells Bobby she'd like things to be like old times again too, but we can't always do what we want. But she'll make it up to him.
She asks him to tell her how his day was. Bobby was disappointed he didn't get to introduce her to Summer. And sometimes being with Luciana feels like being with his mother. Lucy says she loves him very much, but his mother will always be Lisa, watching over him from heaven. Bobby replies that he's not as sad when Luci is around, and he feels awful when she's not with him due to work. Luci says that today there's an important competition for the vineyard, but things will calm down afterwards. Bobby anticipates that they will win and his father will be really happy.
Roman, Tano, and Leon are making plans for the day. Ramon will go to the competition, and Leon and Tano will stay behind. Leon tells Ramon, "I hope you'll be very happy with my mother." Ramon says, "All I want is to make up for all she's suffered." Good luck with that.
Lil is looking at outfits with Sonia. Lil figures Gut will be at the competition, and she wants to look good. Gut calls; Lil pretends to be mad. He denies that he arrested Ramon out of jealousy for Marta; it was a routine "inspection." Lil doesn't believe him. Impatiently, Gut admits that he did it for Marta, but not because he's jealous. (Huh?) He doesn't care about Marta. He'd call her if he wanted to be with her instead of Lil. (How does Lil know that he didn't call Marta first?)
Gut asks if Lil is going to the wine contest. Yes? Great! "We can talk about 'us'," he says. (gag)
David tells Luci about the test scores and Fernanda's anxiety attack. He wishes he could take away all of her worries. Luci calmly says that surely Fernanda will get enough points next time to get into the school of her choice. What Fer needs now is his affection and understanding; David should just give it time. He heatedly says that Fernanda needs to concentrate and have more discipline. Luci points out that demanding and pressuring her that way won't accomplish anything. "But life is difficult, and Fernanda has to understand that," says David the father who should have helped her out with that a lot sooner than age 18. Luci disagrees with him. "You don't understand how difficult it is to raise a child," he blurts. "Oh, and you do?" Luci retorts. That hits him like a blow to the gut. He admits that he doesn't know if he's doing the right thing. He just wants his children to have the same values he does. (Again, age 18 is kind of late to start.)
Anyway, David can't go to the competition, he needs to stay with Fernanda. (And scream in her face some more?)
Grace gloats to her mother (in front of sleeping Fernanda) that she knew Fer wouldn't pass the exam. Lil is upset to see Fernanda this way. Grace is dismissive; Fer just needs to de-stress and she can take the test again. This will give Grace more time to get close to David. Lil says, "Do it quick, because I'm not going to allow Fernanda to go on like this." Grace says, "She did this to herself. David made her feel very bad because he took away all her privileges, but it's just stress, we're all with her, we won't let her get this way again. Don't feel bad. Realize that we need this."
"You'd better stay with David because if not, I won't cover you on this, you hear me?"
Luci promises to do her best at the contest and hopes Fernanda will be okay. David says they saved the grapes from a cold front (I don't remember that). Lucy says she's sure that after all this, Fernanda will be okay, and hopefully she and David can be happy together. Then she backpedals and apologizes; she doesn't know how to be close to Fernanda. David doesn't blame Luci for that. They hold hands.
Miguel and Erika argue about her working in the vineyard. Let me spoil you. I'm fine. I don't want you to see me as a weak woman. I promise. Ready for the competition? Ready. We are a good team. Erika: We fixed the water problem thanks to you talking to Gut. I feel that when I'm with you I've already won.
David tells Cesar he feels guilty seeing his daughter that way. Cesar tells him not to be so hard on himself and don't give up. No one has the recipe for being the perfect father. David says that he loves Luciana, but he can't expect her to be part of this. Cesar suggests that David should let Luci decide whether she wants to be part of this or not. David says he knows she'd be willing to do it, but he doesn't know if Luciana's what his children need.
Leon and Tano are working, but Tano is worried that Fer hasn't been replying to his texts. Over Leon's protests, Tano runs off to check on her.
Gracie is on the phone with Joselo, saying that she can't go to her own art show because she has to stay home with her niece. David warns her again not to put aside her own life for them. They can't be her entire life. Grace replies that she's doing this because the kids are part of him, and that's why she loves them so much, and they're the most important thing to her. She'll never complain, because that's her decision to make. "If you let me, David, I WILL BE HERE FOREVER."
Marta talks to Fernanda while she sleeps. In comes Lil. "Don't even think of waking her," Lil says, "she doesn't need you for anything. Please leave me alone with my granddaughter... if you had raised her as well as you say, she'd be a strong young woman, but no. You made her like this so she'd always depend on you. It's my turn to raise my granddaughter. Do me the courtesy of leaving."
Lil calls Gut and calls off their date at the competition.
Tano asks David about Fernanda. David explains that she didn't react well to her test score and no, Tano can't see her. "I was wrong to let you see one another," David says. Grace backs him up and says she agrees with him, that from now on they need to be more strict. Tano asks them to tell Fer that he was here.
David thanks Grace for her support. She admits that she spoiled Fernanda too much. She promises to support him in whatever he thinks is best for Fer.
I see cheese, I see crackers, I see grapes. We must be at the competition. Luci is wearing a very tight and very short red dress. Her hair looks like licorice whips. She and Susan run into Erika, Adolfo, and Miguel. Luci and Erika shake hands. Miguel asks where David is; Luci explains that there's a family situation.
Juan and Perla approach. Juan pre-gloats that he wants to see David's face when he loses. Everyone tries to shut him down.
Fernanda wakes up and apologizes to David for his missing the competition. And Grace missed her art show. Fer rubs her head like she has a headache. She's thirsty. David goes to get her some water. Fer asks Grace if Tano came to see her. Grace says yes, but "I had to tell him that you can't continue seeing each other. To that end, I have your phone and your computer. Just for a few days."
Montage: Luci pours samples of the wine for the competition judges. So does Erika. Nobody is making faces or spitting out their wine, so it's very suspenseful.
Grace agrees to help Fer see Tano if she's better in a couple of days. Fer asks for her phone. Marta comes in with a tray. Fernanda sulks and says she's not hungry. Grace tells Marta to leave the tray and Fernanda will eat when she's hungry. Fernanda looks away, and Marta leaves. Grace shoots Fer a calculating look.
Luci is nervous. Susan and Ramon try to calm her down. Miguel is talking Erika up.
The finalists are announced. Fourth place, not going on to the final round, is Bachereto de Sonoma Valley. (Erika coughs.) Third place, El Romance from Bodega de LA. Luci is pissed that they only got third place. Juan gloats. Second place, Sunny Fields Pinot Noir. (They never did tell us what variety they grow at BLA.) And first place, it's Fronteras from viñedo de Santa Barbara.
Luciana is really mad. She complains to Susan and Ramon. They agree they need to understand how this happened. Luci whips out the phone to call David, but pauses at the sight of Miguel and Erika.
Erika coughs again. She says they couldn't have done this without Miguel. Adolfo is really excited. Miguel sees Luci and looks thoughtful. Erika sees Miguel looking at Luci, but he assures Adolfo and Erika that he's happy for their win. Adolfo is surprised at what a bad year David's had. They look forward to the finals. Miguel tells Erika it's all because of her.
Luci still isn't making that phone call. Miguel watches Luci watching him.
Graces tries to convince Fernanda to be nice to Marta. (I notice Grace's nails are the same color as her hair.) It will be good for her therapy. Can't Fer be nice to Marta as well as her grandma? Fernanda says that all she cares about is seeing Tano, and letting Grace stay.
Luci congratulates Miguel. He says the judges were tough. She says maybe she didn't do such a good job on the presentation. He says that's maybe because her audience was more than just him this time. He reminds her of the night of the Gran Reserva wine. He asks about David. She says Fernanda had a problem. Erika approaches. Luci congratulates her. Erika offers condolences. Luci says hopefully they'll do better in the next round.
Juan is on cloud nine. Perla is a bit bummed that the vineyard where she's spent most of her life only came in third place. But Juan looks forward to taking advantage of David's bad luck. David will pay for everything he did to Juan!
David visits with Fernanda. She's mad at herself for getting so nervous. He tells her not to give up. Grace gets up and tells Fernanda that she doesn't want Fer to suffer as much as Grace did when this happened to her, it's better if they be strict. David is right. It's the only way to learn. David gapes at her like he's hearing this for the first time, or maybe he's taken aback that she's presumptuously assuming a parental role.
Juan approaches Luci and Susan to rub the defeat (third place, qualifying for the final round, that is NOT a defeat) in their faces and says he's just going to watch from his own property while they destroy themselves. They'll be asking him to buy the vineyard. Miguel interrupts him with a poke, leave them alone. SUSPENSEFUL STARES

Meanwhile, the 4-time defending National Champion UConn Huskies go down as their 111 winning streak was snapped by Miss St last night in Dallas!
Speaking of girl Bulldogs, Luci was smoking hot in her little red dress. I thought that thing was going to burst into flames!
After they came in THIRD and we were looking over her shoulder as she watched Smuguel and Erika celebrating their win I really did feel sorry for her.
THEN I noticed that Mane had not been laundered in what looked like a week and a half. Dam Lu, wash that thang!
That hair was downright nasty, thanks HD TV. Note to TV people, you just can't get away with that shit any more, we can see every hair. Glad they never got that Smell-O-Vision working.
OTOH DisGrace seems to have taken a totally new tact. The rift between the succubi appears to be widening in that Lil is now being shown to have some morsel of care in her heart for FerBrat. Go figure. Yeah, saw that flying cow again too.
Julie - Looking forward to your recap. I got Fernandoed out last night and surfed away a lot.
What ever happened to good sportsmanship and losers congratulating the winning team, especially when the winners have helped the losers get water access?
Kirby - I'm guessing there was just a lot of hair mousse in Luciana's hair for the wavy tendril look cause her hair is naturally straight.
Niecie, I , too, was surfing out often. I found something better to watch . And , yes, whatever happened to being a good sport. These people's priorities are all messed up.
Fern whipping her hair back and forth and grabbing her head and hyperventilating as Dad put down the hammer because SHE FAILED THE TEST. Worst thing ever to befall mankind. It is the end of the world . Geez, all the writers must have failed the SATS.
Kirby, the greasy hair must be a thing . I do not care for the look.
I get very little of the dialogue, but Lilian does seem to be not so sure about Disgrace's plan on using Fragile Fern to snare Dashing Dad . It looked as though Disgrace had Dr. Evil sedate Frantic Fern.
Well, after a day of rain, the sun is out. Yeah. Have nice weekend, all.
He better not even think to blame Luciana for coming in third either.
OTOH, Graciela siding with David on this against Ferzilla made sense. It's just another way of being on "his side," and to hell with the kids (which is still consistent with Lilian, who's not above manipulating them in minor ways but draws the line at full-on mental manipulation/abuse when they're already in the hole).
Kirby: I won't even lie--as ridiculously hot as Irina Baeva and Barbara Lopez were in their short dresses, Susan's weirdly Victorian schoolmarm getup somehow topped them both. I know, I know, I'm weird.
Oh, and dy77 and I are in agreement: the vineyard that took second place in the contest (which this fakakta show couldn't even pony up extras for--I mean, come on) is, quote, "some Falcon Crest monstrosity run with an iron fist by Eugenia Cauduro."
What's wrong with that picture?
Almost everything she has worn in this show had some Indian, or Aztec or 'Native' theme. Not a bad thing, mind you, but it is a theme with her.
For the record, Luci did congratulate Miguel and Erika on their win. Yes, she looked hot in the dress. Maybe a little too hot for an event of this type. I didn't notice her hair, but I'll notice it today.
Delilah, I agree with you about David berating Fernanda. It was awful and that is part of why I couldn't deal with the recap last night. It brought back some upsetting memories. (I brought home a C on my report card and THE SKY FELL. It was nothing like what we saw last night, but it was still the freaking end of the world and for the next four years, I was filled with white-hot terror every time I got a slightly disappointing test or quiz score. At one point I had a stress headache that lasted two months. In retrospect, I am absolutely sure that all of this did me more harm than good.)
Ahem, well anyway, what Gracie said about the test score was that it was higher than last time. But it was still too low. (I think David said it was 10 points short; I'll confirm when I do the recap.) That's why Fernanda was in the doghouse in the first place - because she had apparently already flunked this test once.
The girl is just coming off of a near nervous breakdown. And she's still very immature. It might be a good idea for her to take a year off, maybe have an actual job someplace (there must be something she can do at the vineyard, or she could tutor younger kids at the community center), learn about responsibility and contributing to a team, get some tutoring, and take the test again.
But I don't think David wants to wait a whole 'nother year for Fernanda to get her head together. I think he was expecting that if she got a good test score, everything would be just fine and then he and Luci could be together soon.
We all bring our own lives and experiences to these telenovelas. Have we been deceived and betrayed by someone we thought loved us? Have we pursued someone ? Have we been pursued ? Have we lost someone we loved ?
P.s. I have to admit that I like Rick ! He is performing again and still sounds good !
Susanlynn, watching Tarzan for like the fourth time
Where was the loving, supportive hug, the kiss and the encouraging words David should have given?
There was no need for me to try and figure out to say about the ungracious defeat: "What ever happened to good sportsmanship and losers congratulating the winning team, especially when the winners have helped the losers get water access?" Thank you Niecie. You stated it perfectly. I was especially shocked at Ramon. At least Luci gave her late, but sincere congratulations.
Susanlynn, I totally agree with you about Lilian. Last night, she looked truly concerned and (dare I say it?) actually sad about Fernanda. Little does she know she will desperately need her grandchildren once Lisa's heinous act is revealed.
Kirby, I haven't liked all the product in Luci's hair either. Bill, I also liked Susan's "luke" the best.
Steve, I thought Juan and Perla simply came to gloat.
And Julie. I am so sorry you had so much pressure to produce good grades. While parents always want the best for their children, their desire for their children to excel often does result in added stress and pressure. I do not have children but almost all my friends do. In fact, during the years, I know many had muttered that they would have been happy with a C, just so their kids passed.
Really looking forward to your recap!
Diana
Luciana looked sexy in that dress though :)
Meanwhile, did Cougar Sonia & Young Cub Leon make an appearance last night ?
Steve, Sonia and Leon were only in separate scenes last night. Sonia barely said anything.
Luci's hair - ick, what did they put in it, and why did they use so much? I was also noticing how thick the makeup was on Luci, Fernanda, Grace, and Lil. I know there's a lot of makeup involved in TV magic, but this seemed excessive for everyone.
Ok yelling about the not so low grades
Chill Dave. I think he's on edge about
All the stuff happening with hIm and his heart. He wants a life with his ladylove and he can't, cuz Dr evilhead
Is being puppet and discrazy is pullin his strings. He don't want gracie, he wants Lucy. Fer's pushin Tia on him, Dr nut is pushin Tia on him,and Juan
Is like a hemrod that wont go away.the
Pipes are off cuz none of these really brilliant businessmen thought of getting a work Permit before taking on such huge task. Is that enough to make you go blewy on Top of babygirl not getting a high enough test score? Weeeeelll maybe, but The world still stands so get a grip man. Someone said farther up, she could take a year off,
I agree with that. Give your brain a brake. Who says she has to go to college anyway? I mean I went to college but a lot of kids don't go to college and they're just fine. Some are
Even millionaires. But from what I've seen on these telenovas the upstanding families of these young people are expecting their kids to really go places and become something big because they have to uphold that high Society image crap that these families expect of their children, this is why he's pushing this girl but he really need to get a grip cuz it really is not worth her sanity.
I also agree about what you said about Luciana and the Santa Barbara people being in third place, they did make the finals and they're on the podium with the other two and their third in the world and everybody sees them, be glad about the hard work you done girl and stop all that pouting.
Is Lillian growing heart? Not!
So know numbskull Dave is wondering if Lu is the right woman for his kids and Gracie is taking his part in the Fer discipline plan and I can just feel this big dummy making a "sacrifice for love", leaving Lu, the supposed love of HIS life, to hook up with Gracie, whom his kids love and I will just not fricking be able to take that. Youtube and Dailymotion are looking better and better.
Poor Luciana. Makes sense that they lost what with all the drama and bullshit going on at LA vineyards. It's a wonder they placed at all.
Carito should be able to hear the BS in this pitch. Lordy. How long will she last?
Work has followed me home. This was a break. Gonna put in some more time on the clock. See y'all later!
Thank you, Julie!!
Lila, here is part 2 of my story of getting a C. A few years after graduating college, I went back for a second degree in hopes of changing my career. (I ended up not finishing, which was fine because my current career had gotten better and I decided I didn't need to change after all.) My new major was chemistry. I had to take calculus and physics and some other stuff in addition to chemistry.
All of this was much harder than my first time around in college, when I majored in English and mostly took literature and history classes that I could fairly easily pass by writing essays. I got plenty of Cs the second time around. I didn't love it, but I loved that I could concentrate on learning the material rather than stressing over the next test.
DisGracie's remark about "higher than before" means nothing without exact quantification. 60 is 20% higher than 50 but both are too low to pass normal exams.
David missed something very important here. He doesn't want DisGrace and Lillian around as distractions and DisGrace is saying she'd stay forever if he wanted. He is missing that she is not listening to him. Furthermore, she is ignoring anything he says that she doesn't want to hear. He needs her to leave NOW.
Once he gets back to normal conversation with his brat he needs to make her tell him exactly why she objects to him loving Luciana. If she says anything about Luciana not being "their kind" he has something to throw in her face. If he's thinking at all he'll hear Lillian's voice on those words.
She has told him that she's in love with him, that he should be with her, that she loves his children like her own. Even after he emphatically disavowed any chance that they'll be a couple, she kept pushing her agenda and he takes no heed. He should have shut this mess down while Lisa was still alive. Failing that, he's had several excellent excuses to do so recently. He's been a numbskull, a dim bulb, a wuss.
And I agree that a non-wuss would give Fernanda a chance to explain what's wrong with his being in love with Luciana. Sometimes kids have legitimate reasons not to like their parent's new partner. That's not the case here, but David should be more inquisitive.
Why does he allow her to touch him so possessively the way she does? Is he afraid that telling her this is unacceptable is rude? If so, that's quite a role reversal.
Now that we're at the beginning of Lillian and DisGrace turning on each other there should be some interesting arguments to be overheard.
And Marta should have ratted Lillian out to David or was she afraid he wouldn't believe her?
That is an interesting conversation about parents and grades. I was on my own as to studying and grades, but I guess that I liked school from early on and liked being considered a good student. When I went to college, my father told me not to play with the squirrels , and my mother talked him into giving me an allowance of $5.00 a week. I had never had an allowance before. However, with my daughters, it was understood that homework came first when they got home from school, and I checked their homework daily when they were in elementary school. My older daughter liked me to help her study and proofread her essays, so I would teach all day, and then I would come home and help her. My younger daughter never showed me any of her work. I was fine with both approaches as long as they maintained their grades. They both were very good students and got merit scholarships. Dave should have gotten a tutor for Fer as soon as she started having problems with her grades. She probably would have listened to a tutor if she built a rapport with him or her.

I don't know why Luciana and Susan were so worked up over 3rd place if it wins them a place in the finals. Doesn't this give them another chance? Again, we don't seem to get the full story.
I'm kind of disgusted with Hulu. I saw that several shows I was watching (including ECDLP) expired last night. I had been going back and re-watching the series since I missed so much of it and only watched some in the beginning and the final week.
She has told him that she's in love with him, that he should be with her, that she loves his children like her own. Even after he emphatically disavowed any chance that they'll be a couple, she kept pushing her agenda and he takes no heed. He should have shut this mess down while Lisa was still alive. Julie
Wuss behavior or maybe ole Dave quietly relishes the idea of Gracie as a spare if it doesn't work out with Luciana and this episode seem to put her closer to the Lisa Memorial Budoir!
She said she was in love with him and he told her emphatically that he does not return her feelings. If she had any dignity she would have backed off and gone back to her canvases and paints. Urban
TThis should be a sign to David that DisCrazy (good one, Nina!) is craycray but he tolerates her hanging around, dry humping him and giving hand jobs to his biceps cause he's diggin' her on the down low!
I like the way Luci and David don't kiss like Rover and Fido sharing something from PetSmart and now instead do the Vulcan hand clasp mind meld. Much Better. Kirby
Now that shit is just damned FUNN-NAY! OMG! That's a PERFECT description! I agree, it IS much better!
Thank you for the Hulu update, GoBlue! I DO use hulu for when my DVR malfunctions or whatever and I have watched episodes of some past shows so BOOOO on them. As a matter of fact, that's the main thing I use it for! Guess I'll have to check out the Uni app. Sheesh!
He is yelling in Fernanda's face to calm down. Strangely enough, that doesn't work.
David takes Fernanda's head in her hands (like it's a basketball, the same way as when he's about to kiss Luciana) and shouts in her face,
Luci finds Bo-bee
ITA Dave should've given Fer a pep talk on alternate stuff she could do to overcome this setback -- all the good advice given here -- especially since Dr. Evil is claiming the girl is suicidal.
How Dave leaps from Fer's disappointing test score to Luciana maybe not being right for his kids is a mystery to me. Fer did not study with Lu. Lu, on her own and with a dad with little formal education and with no luxuries, did well in her own studies through discipline and hard work. Fer has had poor/no study skills for years and cramming for (weeks) is at best a 50-50 proposition.
My feeling about FerBrat is that she doesn't know the importance of her college education to anything other than her dad's ego or concern for her. She is like Daniela Montenegro in the sense that she thinks -- though less overtly -- that having a rich father solves every problem she would ever have. She isn't thinking about independence or her future. Emotionally she is still a child.
All the adults in her life share the responsibility for that. David for checking out emotionally after Lisa's death, Lillian due to disinterest, DisGracie because she wants FerBrat to be her means to getting David, and Marta due to ignorance and her own pain at losing Luciana and Marcos. FerBrat became a surrogate for the daughter Marta couldn't mother anymore. None of this was conducive to teaching FerBrat any self-discipline or the study skills she needs now.
It seems that Dave just keeps getting weaker and more confused. We had those brief moments after that one afternoon of sweet..if hurried..Bliss. Everything was going Dave's way , and Sleeping Beauty seemed to have awoken from that long sleep. Now, the crazy in-laws have hunkered down in the house, Fern is going off the deep end, and even BobbyBobeeBooby seems to have become a spoiled brat. Hey, it worked for his sister ! "You didn't pllaaayyy with me and my friends , Luci!!!" Remember when hus problem was being harassed by bullies? Now, the kid has two whole friends , and he is having a sad because adult Luci will not play with them. Really? I distinctly remember my kids asking me to get out of the family room when their friends were here.
"if you had raised her as well as you say, she'd be a strong young woman, but no. You made her like this so she'd always depend on you" I have been waiting for someone to point out the obvious. Honestly, what is Marta good for?
I laughed when Miguel got in Juan's face. Guess he's looking for another beatdown.
Luciana needs to reconsider why she stays at the vineyard. David isn't in it to win and taking advantage of her loyalty. The influence on the product by Marcos long faded and it's impossible to push a rock up a hill.
I'm happy for Erika. Despite her illness, slobbery roving eyed bf and little assistance from her pop she willed a win and knocked off the has been king.
David has known how Graciela felt about him, even Lisa constantly remained on edge when she was around, so for him to pretend the pawing and reluctance to leave about anything more is ridiculous. Really, it you want to blame someone for Lisa's death, look in the mirror Dave.
What did people think of Lilian's assertion that Marta raised Fernanda to be dependent on her, whereas Lil would have raised Fer to be strong? Does that have any merit? While it's clear that Lil has had very little use for Bobby, it does seem as though Fernanda used to rebuff all of Lil's attempts to get near her (before Fernandogate). So Lil may have been interested but never got a shot.
(I'm not suggesting that Lil would have been the perfect maternal figure, but Lisa seemed to turn out okay. Grace, well, she's sick in the head.)
Goblue, thanks for the info about Hulu. I subscribe to Hulu but haven't looked at it in over a month. I have noticed that sometimes they'll drop a show I like before I finish it, or they'll carry only the first season so you get hooked, but then no second season. That's not what I thought I was signing up for.
It's ironic to me that of all the characters in this story, Fernanda is one of the better defined and more believable ones. Presumably she was written by the same writers who wrote all the other characters, so I have to give the actress some credit for this. Casting her may have been nepotism, but it wasn't a mistake.
And you know what? I don't care. I believe this 'LEG' of my research will occupy me until the actual big reveal and killings start and at that time it is a moot point. Fer can take any courses she wants from the Asylum for the criminally insane and no one will say a peep about her SAT score.
And Irina will still be frolicking around in front of what should be MY camera instead of my photographing these glorified vultures. :-)
.
We also have the example of Nuria and Paulina in AQNMD. We saw what their parents were like as parents and we're scratching our heads over that.
The general issue I have with Lillian in the context of Julie's question is that her definition of strength is total BS. She favored Lisa for having married David, not for any achievements she made. We don't know what career she had before marrying David or whether they were married the day after she graduated university. DisGrace has an art career she is throwing away to chase David. Why is Lillian encouraging her to do that when it would mean sacrificing economic independence? That is antiquated thinking, like Nina had in the first 75% of PyP.
What Lillian would have done was teach Fernanda to be as much of a snob as she is and treat "the help" like slaves. She would also have taught her to be a manipulator like DisGrace is. This is likely to have been the issue Lisa had with her and why she didn't want her much around her children. Lillian has no respect for men; she only sees them as walking wallets with status (David and Adolfo) or arm candy with sexual talent (Brian). This is part of the reason she doesn't connect with Bobby although he is a bright and loving child.
Lillian is a narcissist and she raised one worse than herself. Fernanda was lucky that one one non-narcissist in that family was her mother.
Um...it never will be because Jessica was fixed, but she don't care. She Luuuurves her some Pork Chop.
Will Fer begin to turn on DisCray noe that she has thrown FerBrat under the bus?
99% of the people in David's orbit need to leave. Yeah,...... find a new job and new friends.
Let Dumbass times three sink if that is what it takes. He will be singing along with Sting:
I saw that friend of mine, he said "you look different somehow."
I said "everybody's got to leave the darkness sometimes."
I said, "I'm so happy that I can't stop crying,
I'm laughing through my tears, I'm laughing through my tears."
I do agree that Lil would have tried to make Fernanda a snob. And it's true that Lil's example of "strength" is uninspiring: she has been mooching off of her son in law for years.
And there will probably be consequences for Grace blowing off that art show. If Joselo hadn't given up on her before (she must have been a very profitable client until now), his patience must be running dangerously low.
I hated that we left the episode with David making a (surprised? unhappy?) face at Disgrace after she said "WE'RE going to be strict." I really wanted to know what he was going to say next. "Wow, thanks, you're just like a wife!" or "*I* will be more strict, and you will be leaving" or "it's not your place to confiscate my daughter's phone and computer."
I felt a whole lot less suspense with Juan and Miguel doing the big stare at one another. If Juan has any cards to play, I'd like him to just play them so we can get the ball rolling towards the final. (Then more woe for David, and then Mark shows up, etc.) I don't want this to be one of those things where nothing happens till the second-to-last episode.
"(You still have her earrings, Fernanda. I promise they're way better than Graciela)" was great and "Her hair looks like licorice whips" made me laugh.
"He is yelling in Fernanda's face to calm down. Strangely enough, that doesn't work". David, who seems to have made a few tentative steps forward in the last few weeks has regressed into an angry and demanding helicopter parent. "Weaker and more confused" is right Susanlynn.
"David says he knows she'd be willing to do it, but he doesn't know if Luciana's what his children need". Ummm, really? Yes, what on earth would a kind, caring, grounded intelligent woman be able to add to his life and that of his children? As you so wisely pointed out Urban, Fernanda for all intents and purposes still has the mind of a child. All she cares about is her family and Tano. And really, is that so different from many young women at 18? While many realize they should go to college and agree to do so, it is likely not always their main focus or goal. As Niecie pointed out, cramming is not the answer or substitution for daily effort.
Big mistake to forbid Fernanda from seeing Tano. If he were smart, he would enlist Tano to get Fer more interested in and excited about her studies. David has a host of people - Luci, Tano, etc. ready and willing to help yet he pushes them away.
For Gracie "this episode seem to put her closer to the Lisa Memorial Budoir!" Too funny Lila!
tofie, I was happy for Erica too. I was disappointed in the reaction of Luci and company, but at least Luci did congratulate Erica later. Ramon! Very disappointed...I'm thinking he congratulated them off camera. That's my theory and I'm sticking to it :)
"Gut asks if Lil is going to the wine contest. Yes? Great! "We can talk about 'us'," he says. (gag)". Shudder. I think the writers are concocting his lines each day, based on their mood. I really resent this nonimportant louse is the focus of so much of the show.
And a word about the competition setting…or in this case, an unused lot with no décor to speak of. A scant few people milling about with absolutely no hint of anticipation or excitement. The Festival was not in the least bit festive.
Interesting debate about what might have transpired if Lili had more of a role in Fernanda's life than Lili. Well, Lili raised two daughters. One was bright, accomplished and loving. The other languished in jealousy, seemingly always coming in second. Two sisters, raised by the same mother. Both incalculably different. I will say that Fernanda might not have been as coddled, but also perhaps not as loving. We will never know.
Julie, you rock!
Diana
Ramon, Susan, and Luciana were all really weird about getting third place. Like, where did we go wrong? But we were sure our wine was the best? Their attitude is mystifying. Apparently, even in their wildest dreams they cannot imagine a better wine than theirs. In that case, they might as well all retire since they have totally "solved" winemaking!
I didn't hear any of them say "wow, I've just gotta try the other two wines to see what we're up against."
I would really like to meet the people from the Sunny Fields vineyard. Maybe they're fun, rational, and not crazy.
Yes, they should have ran to the competition to see what they had and identify what their wine lacked.
Instead of licking their wounds (which were simply a matter of hurt pride) and feeling sorry for themselves, coming in third should have motivated them to do better next time.
Can you imagine if they had been ousted from the competition all together?
Diana
And David doesn't know about the third-place finish yet. (Not sure if Luci never got around to calling him, or if he just hasn't checked his messages in a while.) I will be interested to see how he takes the news.
Julie..no formal training in recalling? Gifted, girl!
Maybe someone should just give him a basketball with a face on it. For David's comfort as well as everyone's safety.
I think that the actors just could not spin straw into gold. The writers did not create a good story to tell us. Also, telenovelas used to have about 60 episodes , but now they try to stretch the plot out into too many episodes so everything just goes around and around and around. However, I had a good time here with all the clever , witty , thought provoking comments from the recappers and commenters. I wish that I would have kept a running total of the vests . Those vests kind of became Dave's uniform. A metaphor for how buttoned up he was. I am very anxious to see how the writers bring this story to its conclusion.
The 60 episode target is not a bad one. I think you can go twice as high without trouble if you have enough story. Hotel went to the low 80s, and that was fine. Yago was in the 60s. Alborada was around 90. Querida Enemiga was 110 and could have been shorter without a couple of side-stories, but was still solid. These are some of the best TNs I've ever seen.
There are others that I loved more, but they were much longer and would have been greatly improved from some compacting. Destilando Amor and especially La Fea Mas Bella suffered from excessive padding.
Ouch, look at what I said about Gabe Soto in the second to last episode of QE: "Oops! I was wrong about Alonso looking discouraged. It's just his usual look. Sorry, I forgot he doesn't emote reliably." Hmm. Well, he can do face-screaming pretty well, and he's good at moody looks.
Yeah, I'm living dangerously. If you saw it, you know what it is. BUT if you didn't, you can guess a lot of different things.
I thought I might sneak it in during recess. :-)
Cause I'm dying now.
But besides that, we've already lost 100 hours of our lives that we can't get back, so what's another 40? :) Sigh...
I'm marginally curious as to whether or not couples end up together, but am very much interested in seeing Graciela and Mark's downfall. Although Mark is an abusive murderer, I don't consider Graciela any less of a villain. I think and hope David is livid. Beyond that though, I think this might hit Lili as hard as it will Fer and Bobby. To know that she helped her lesser favored daughter after she murdered her favorite daughter will be bitter bile she will taste the rest of her life.
Julie, the Simpsons always make me smile. Sounds like you saw a good episode. You however, do not need any instructions on writing a recap. Mr. Burns would have done well to hire you to teach the class.
Diana
But the way these nincompoops do not mention life changing information to each other, I suspect we will be treated to individual pan pizzas to prolong the agony. My money says Lilly first. Then as it sinks in and the remainder of her sanity slips away, she will dribble out the truth to the other concerned parties.
But when this radioactive info reaches David and/or FerChernobyl, my guess is that the containment vessel will be breached, and the community at large will be 'exposed' to this toxic news.
Oh............ gives a fellow goose bumps just the anticipation.
Diana, Julie, and Kirby, we can see that the four of us are not ready to let Friday,'s episode go.
Regarding how the Lisa murder will be revealed, we know that Juan's raison d'etre..his life's mission ..is to cause as Dave as much suffering as possible. Thus, I think that he is looking forward to telling Dave and luxuriating in his bleeding, pulsating misery.
Kirby..is that your bulldog ? Mascot for Georgia bulldogs
OK, so, not a bald eagle in a toupee. But I was close.
Julie Baldie wearing a rug. Fuuuunnny especially to somejuan here in Flor-I-duh.
Have folks here been risking detention hall? Cheeky monkeys. You have riled me up. I might have to say the O word.
DisGrace is just about there, Lil would be close behind if her alcohol were cut off long enough for the DTs to start.
Both their cerebral meltdowns will be something to see. Especially DisGrace, because we have already seen glimpses of her madness. Like I said before "Dat lil bit is Crazy, Mon."
DG of course needs no alcohol in order to snap. Indeed, a little nip might even smooth her out. But if someone forces her to face reality, everybody had better find a table to hide under. She will leave no stone unthrown.
Let Lili hear about her rocking Lisa first, then let Lil go ballistic on her ass and let Dave and Fernanda overhear the revelation and refuse to pull Lil off her and then let Dave and Fer drag the remains out to the curb for the first responders to pick up what's left.
As Susanlynn so eloquently described it:
Regarding how the Lisa murder will be revealed, we know that Juan's raison d'etre..his life's mission ..is to cause as Dave as much suffering as possible. Thus, I think that he is looking forward to telling Dave and luxuriating in his bleeding, pulsating misery.
. . .and then the scenario I described above can unfold.
Ok, I'm out. . .later!
Wow , Lila . That was a very specific order of events. Without mentioning names (because I do not want my name coming over the intercom) , how far are you in your reading? I am going to other sites for information and conversation on you know what so that I stay out of trouble here.
I am preparing myself for much weeping and gnashing of teeth as this train chugs wearily into the Station of Pain. I wonder if we will get more jailbirds or more deaths.
I think Juan will die only if he kills someone else (perhaps Mark). Then DG will kill Juan.
I was so sure Erika was going to die, and now I think she won't.
The ultimate punishment would be to die in prison. Maybe one of the inmates will drown DG in a toilet.
Gut will die honorably, and we'll still be just as confused about him as ever.
A much-humbled Lilian will end up with Adolfo. Maybe she will do something to redeem herself first.
All just guesses...
As to DisGrace's end, she should end up disfigured before landing in the slammer.
Susanlynn, not far: let's just say real life with three dimensional people is getting in the way. . .happily though, so no complaints!
Then David can have an Epiphany and see how she really is. During his confrontation with NoJuan over San Franing his new wife (DisGrace) NoJuan can let it out that DG rocked Lisa.
If that aint enough to bring David to reality he can live forever with his first wife's murderer who is banging his worst enemy. Happy Trails FerBratZilla.
Julie. As for disgrace, I agree with you. Once she has Moby Dave harpooned and dragged onto the deck, she won't know why she wanted him.
Correction. 10 comments on a dum as dirt episode and 80 comments on a kick ass recap.
Harpooned and dragged...Um isn't California a "Catch and Release" State? :-)
