Vino el Amor #112-113; Thursday, April 6, 2017: Fighting for Position
Lilian and Grace talk about what happened with Mark. Lil thinks it is David’s fault that Mark came to the vineyard, because he hired all these awful employees. [How the heck does she think you can have a productive vineyard to produce wine without employees?] Grace thinks that it would have been a good thing if Mark would have killed Luciana, so she could be out of the way. Now at least Lil does not agree with DisGrace’s thinking in fact she finds it horrifying. DisGrace thinks that if Mark would have murdered Luciana it would have done them a favor. Lil tells her to be careful what she says! Lil says the way to get rid of Luciana is decently and intelligently, not by murder! [Hopefully Lil will find out what DisGrace did to Lisa soon!]

1.) Glad to see Tano going back to school since FerBrat is a big influence.
2.) Cougar Sonia & Leon the Cub getting their sex escapade session. Surprised they didn't go to San Francisco to do it.
3.) Graciela plotting to destroy Luciana: Fast Forward!
4.) Did Carito really tell Gutierrez everything ? NOPE.
5.) David is obviously falling for Graciela.
6.) Ramon's body language when Marta said that Gutierrez saved Luciana's life was WTH!
7.) Perla: You made your own bed by siding with Juan. No lie in it!
"he is soooooo appreciative of everything that Grace has done"
I don't see galan in David just because two women want him. I see a lazy, entitled do nothing successfully leveraging two women against each other that competently handle his kids and household and his business.
At table Graciela provides an update of what transpires daily with the children, takes note of what needs to be done and delivers, earning a deserved pat on the head encouraging more wife/mother behavior.
Luciana is consumed from morning till night with the success and brand of the vineyard refusing to quit despite little commitment to the same from the owner. Though frustrated when he is preoccupied with his vest buttons she doubles and pipes down with a pat on the head and a private "if only" declaration of tepid love.
Both women deserve a decision. Defacto wife or the girlfriend. I know Graciela has no self respect so I'm hopeful Luciana doesn't disappoint me and shows hers.
You never fail to translate so much that I missed. You pick the dialog you translate very carefully: "She puts it this way: “Now the man who caused me the most pain, ends up being the man who saved my daughter’s life.”
I imagine I would be beyond grateful and thankful if were Marta. But in the long run, does saving Luci's life actually negate destroying her family to the point she could ever actually have a relationship with him? While I believe in forgiveness, a romantic relationship would be out of the realm of possibility for me.
David. Sigh. “He then apologizes for his previous nasty behavior”. Which is significant. “He just worries that this is not fair to Luciana”. (Ya think?) As disturbing as his treatment of Luci has been, when Fer appeared with her sad face after taking the exam, it appeared he was getting ready to yell at her. Again. Basta!
Steve, you think David is actually falling for Graciela? I think he is showing appreciation for what he perceives she has done for his children. He has been telling her to keep her distance, so I'm not quite convinced.
"Though frustrated when he is preoccupied with his vest buttons she doubles and pipes down with a pat on the head and a private "if only" declaration of tepid love". Very powerful tofie. And sadly, very true (although I smiled at "preoccupied with his vest buttons").
Of course the highlight for me was the Sonia/Leon scenes. I just adore Veronica. “They start to make out again and fall to the floor”. Is it no longer fashionable for couples to actually use a bedroom anymore? First the offices (Mig and Erica/Sonia and Leon), then the kitchen. I fear I might have to start eying other’s kitchens and offices a bit more suspiciously and take inventory of where I sit in the future. :)
“Lil tells her to be careful what she says! Lil says the way to get rid of Luciana is decently and intelligently, not by murder!” Well, I am extremely relieved Lili is not in favor of murder to accomplish her nefarious goals. Of course, while deliberate snuffing out of the physical being seems to be off limits, the destruction of the emotional component, (ripping families apart by having them deported) is not.
I can’t tell if Brian knows Juan is guilty or not. It irks me that I am even concerned with what he does or doesn’t know, or feels or doesn’t feel (this merry go round with Lil and Marta has to stop. Pleeze!).
I have to admit, I am a fan of the crazed, over the top, teeth barring, mustache twirling villain. I'm thinking Alberto Estrella in La Malquerida. I know Juan's a bad guy. But he's just too low key for me. I sense resentment toward David and the taunting is evident. But I need to see and feel that fiery hatred. It's two bland guys having a disagreement.
Cynthia, thank you for bringing all this to life so vividly for us!
Diana
The next time DisGrace prisses in to have a little private catfight I hope Luci has her rock ready.
Tano and Fer are good for each other. Let it go Dave, You have a pretty, 18 year old daughter who does not even have any kids yet.
DisGrace and Lil are hateful and as evil as you can be, but Dave is Captain of this ship, most of this lays at his feet. What he is doing or not doing and allowing is beyond unforgivable. Not a manager, not a leader, not a parent.
Tofie you are so on the head of the nail, " a lazy, entitled do nothing" . There must be an App for that.
I fail to see what Luc and Grac find so "irresistible" about Dudvid. He may look like he is dripping with testosterone, but he Aint. Hardly anything is attractive (to a normal healthy woman) about a helpless grown man.
Absolutely right. But might I might add you also provided the reality? "He may look like he is dripping with testosterone".
And there you have it. I always have felt that personality and heart come first. But damn, he is fine.
Diana
Puke. What about Luciana? At 10 she's arrested, roughed up, deported and didn't have a change of clothes. For over a decade Marta refused to leave her comfortable life and daily cat fight with Lilian for a weekend to check on her own flesh and blood. And when her cuckold husband prematurely dies and daughter suddenly and inconveniently returned Marta thought it best she leave as she quickly jumped Brian while Marco's ashes still warm. How horrible to see Luciana's face as a reminder it would look really, really bad to keep sleeping the the guy that headed the round up and one way trip to Mexico. Go ahead Marta and blame Luciana for being involved in putting you in the present dilemma. Don't emphasize with the terror the real victim experienced protecting her friend but do elevate the gratitude you owe Brian, who was doing his job, so the world can see you suffer unfairly.
Wow, I got to sleep in an hour later than usual, and the commenters are up and busy.
Tofie..you said everything that I have been thinking. Dave has it made in the shade with his two groupies covering the home front and the business. I think that we might all know a guy or three like Dave...users who let those around do all the heavy lifting.
Yes, Diana, at a certain point in life, one comes to realize what a real man is...and it is not Dave. I am starting to think that the vests are too tight and cutting off oxygen to Dave's wee brain.
I agree that Juan isn't much of a villain. He is an extremely laid back bad guy. He is a lazy villain in much the same way that Dave is a lazy hero. #yawnzzzzz Please, writers, tell me why I should care about these people.
Evil little DisGrace last night lamenting that SkidMark didn't put a bullet in Luci's head shocked Lillian. We are seeing the growing divide between Garden Variety Nasty Lillian and Psycho Murderer DisGrace.
DG talked about it like missing the shoes she has been wanting on sale at Macy's.
And now it seems DisGrace has nearly everyone except Luci, Siezeher and Soo-Sane fooled.
Tofie in my book, Marta is hardly better than Lillian. The points she has earned over Lillian for caring for Fer and Bobby are erased by the points subtracted for Luci and Marcos.
"How the heck does she think you can have a productive vineyard to produce wine without employees?" Maybe she thinks it can all be done with machines... which would be fine until those machines become self-aware. (That would be a different kind of story.) But at least Lil draws the line somewhere short of seeing Luciana murdered. On the other hand, wasn't it stupid for her to tell Gut not to mention Marta? He probably wasn't even thinking about Marta until Lil said her name. Now Gut's thinking about Marta again. Brilliant, Lil.
Funny Marta went out of her way to see Gutierrez even though she already thanked him the other night. Maybe she will go over there tonight and thank him again.
I'm glad we got to see Leon and Sonia last night. I don't feel as bad about the cuts from the other night now.
I also liked how Fernando was okay with working with the immigrants despite Lil's nasty remarks. I really would like David to ask Fer what she has against Luci, because my guess is that she won't even have an answer, just a vague feeling that someone told her that Luci was no good. (Fer even told Luci not long ago that Luci always tells her the right thing at just the right time.)
So what is going on with this futbol school in SF? How far away is that? Is it far enough away that Bobby has to stay there M-F? Or maybe even all week long? Brava, Gracie. I can't wait till you get yours.
Tano's going to take Fer to do her community work? I thought Fer wasn't supposed to see him again? What happened to being strict?
David was somewhat closer to being in galan mode last night, at least most of the time when he wasn't arguing with Luci over his schedule. And I liked his lavender vest. But there was so much back-and-forth with the appointments, I thought I would get whiplash. Actually it made me think that we were back to single, unedited episodes again, because surely Uni would have whittled this all down to one scene.... but I was wrong.
I didn't see any indication that Dave is falling for Grace. It seems that every time he tells Grace he's not interested in her, he feels that the matter is settled and he doesn't have to worry about it again. So he's expressing the regular type of gratitude that anyone would for someone helping his kid get into futbol school. But Grace sees this gratitude and interprets it as something else, and will escalate her behavior with David until he has to knock her down again. We've been through this cycle so many times, perhaps David has a problem with pattern recognition.
I didn't see David as helpless last night. Compared to a Colunga galan, yes. But compared to everyday David, no. Except for the dumb scheduling conflict, I thought he was more on top of things than usual.
Sigh. Maybe I have lowered my standards too much. It is true that Luci was busting her butt over the wine and he acted as though it was a personal imposition.
Tofie, your analysis of Lil and Marta reminds me again of what a shame it is that they couldn't find enough common ground for an awkward truce. Maybe that would be impossible since Lil thinks that employees are beneath her. But if she could have squelched her snobbery just a little, she might have found that being nice to Marta would have improved her relationship with the kids.
Susanlynn, you got me. Self-aware grape-picking machines are indeed a first step towards the robotpocalypse.
I am currently streaming my TV shows using Sony Playstation Vue, and it does not offer Telemundo or Univision. Plus Hulu just dropped all Univision shows.
If you are streaming this program on DirecTVNow, are the English closed captions available?
Brian? I don't think he deserves anyone (grumble, grumble)...
It's Ramon I feel for. I think he will end up with Marta. Not a win in my eyes, but he has had his eyes on the prize (her) for many years. If she is really what he wants (and every indication is that she is), then bless him.
"It is true that Luci was busting her butt over the wine and he acted as though it was a personal imposition". Julie, you captured why David's attitude is rubbing me the wrong way. He wasn't happy with the wine competition, yet failed to attend due to some lame reason I can't even recall, Fer didn't do well on her initial exam yet he really did nothing to help her. All this time he is supposedly spending with his children seems to be his scowling over paperwork behind closed doors.
I think the football thing is the first step for Bobby to "disappear" permanently. First, being allowed home only on weekends. Being sent to boarding school is likely next.
Diana
And you're right - I thought David said he was going to make time to be with his kids. That doesn't seem to be happening.
I guess I got that wrong. Otherwise, I would have been more sympathetic.
Diana
I just tried to find a comment someone posted as to why he stayed home but of course I can't find it. It didn't have anything to do with Fer as I recall.
Diana
Everybody canceled their stuff because of Fernanda. David didn't go to the wine competition, and Lilian canceled her pseudo-date at the competition with Gut (it wasn't really a date, more like an "I'll see you there"), and Gracie skipped her art exhibit.
For most of the time, they were just taking turns watching Fer sleep. They really didn't all need to stay home. So, lame, not lame, whatever - that's beside the point. He's so quick to praise Gracie for pulling a few strings to get Boby into a futbol school, it would have been nice to express some appreciation to the woman he supposedly loves for taking his place at a competition that's important to him and his business.
If there was some other reason Dave stayed home in addition to being with Fernanda, I missed it and I'm sorry!
Then when that failure came to light she calls (supposedly) her Christian friend soccer player to help Bobby get into another programme.
All in all she has realistically done zilch, nada, nothing zero for either of the kids but makes enough of a commotion about it so it looks like she is doing wonderful things for them. We NEVER actually saw her studying with Fer, asking her questions and checking answers like you do.
DisGrace would never be able to have enough empathy to see it how they see it and see how they don't understand.
We could be enjoying seeing what kinds of parents Miggy and Erika are and enjoy the tender scenes with NoJuan and his new 250 pound "girlfriend" and all his buddies in cell block 7..
We would relish Cesar's new offices in his private practice with his gorgeous receptionist SuSan out front keeping everyone happy till their appointment comes up.
Seeing Lillian with her shopping cart and a half bottle of rotgut wine in the seedier parts of town would be special.
Oh it could be such a happy tale.
What Luciana can see and David fails to is that once DisGrace gets Moby Dave those kids are goners. Fernanda will be away at college and DisGrace will ship Bobby off to a boarding school where he will always be an e-mail away.
If the futbol school is in SF, it's an hour away. That's two hours a day on the road if it's not also a boarding school. That's the gateway to shipping him off to boarding school halfway around the planet.
Kirby,,bless you for all the tutoring you have done, and you gave a very accurate description of what it is like to tutor someone. You have to explain in as many ways as you can think of until you see a beam of light happening. It takes patience, but it can be very rewarding.
I have to admit that the actress playing Grace us doing a great job. She could give Angelique Boyer a run for the money. I would love to see the two INA telenovela with Rulli right in the middle.
Grace already admitted that she didn't do well in school, so I don't know what help she could be to someone who was studying calculus. Fetching lemonade, maybe. Not sure how much time she actually spent with Fer, for that matter.
Urban, I think a lot of times when dealing with a psychopath, some people refuse to see that they are being manipulated is because they might be deriving some kind of benefit by cooperating with the psychopath. As long as the person cooperates with the psychopath and doesn't question his/her motive, that psychopath may appear as though he or she is really benevolent and kind. Most are very entertaining and charismatic people so their victims are blinded to the fact that they are being skillfully manipulated.
The minute you question the psychopath and start to realize that everything he/she does is nothing but deception, you then have an enemy. Then the psychopath tries to smear your name and make it appear to everyone else that YOU are the problem.
The characters who see right through DisGrace are Luciana, Susan, and Cesar. Everyone else is just oblivious. What DisGrace has done is manipulated Fer into thinking that Luciana is the problem.
Kirby, I laughed when I saw what you wrote: "and enjoy the tender scenes with NoJuan and his new 250 pound "girlfriend" and all his buddies in cell block 7." LOL! I think that's where we might be headed at the end. I just so wanted to see Juan go to prison where he belongs! Also Kirby, I think that when Bobby talks about "Cristiano" with futbol, he is referring to Cristiano Ronaldo, the famous soccer player that Grace supposedly knows and has connections to because she is so famous.
Tofie, I like how you said that David has effectively outsourced his children to Grace. He hasn't been much of a hands on father, but then when push comes to shove, he overcompensates because of guilt. That's why I believe that he yelled at Luciana about making that appointment with the restaurant. He did not react like a normal person. Since the vineyard is their bread and butter, he should have been grateful that Lu made the appointment and rescheduled Bobby's appointment. But he's letting DisGrace handle everything as though DisGrace was Bobby's mother.
I hope David isn't falling for DisGrace. Unless he's talking himself into it because she appears to be such a good "mother"....who knows? Do you all think he is learning to love Grace? Even if he marries Grace, I believe he will always carry a torch for Luciana.
With math, there is the mechanical ability to solve the problem, and then there's the ability to understand why it works. They always used to explain the "why" before showing us the "how." Giving me the why up front only confused me. I just wanted to learn the how. And then after doing it a few times (or in some cases, a few hundred times, or a zillion times) I would begin to understand why it worked. That might be a backwards way to learn, but it worked for me.
I don't know how they teach math now, but I know they changed it at least once when I was a kid. I have a feeling that there is no one single approach that will work for everyone, so I don't know if changing it every decade or so really helps anyone. (Or maybe it helps some people but makes it worse for others.)
When she pushed the relationship stuff at the press conference the other night, he pushed back. Again. He doesn't want her. I haven't seen any hint that he's weakening on this. BUT at the same time, he's unwilling to accept that this situation will never go away. He just does his best to ignore her gooey behavior until she oversteps. (I am not sure exactly where he draws the line, but groping him in front of the press was definitely on the other side of that line.)
Yes David gets pushed too far and he snaps at Graciela but in public he goes along. Even when he snaps at Graciela I haven't seen the same anger towards her as he has towards Luciana when she defends herself from his barrage.
I felt sorry for Luciana when Miguel came to see how she was and told her he too couldn't imagine a life without her around. She was so grateful to hear that from her friend.
My mother was a narcissist and those don't make good mothers. The second you are more than a cute fashion accessory -- like a porcelain doll in a party dress -- you're of no value to her. Anything that contradicted her idea of what was proper was a criticism of her. Daughters of such women always feel somehow inferior because this brainwashing starts early. It takes years and a lot of effort to correct 80% of it.
When your own achievements exceed hers they are suddenly of no importance. This is what I see in Lillian regarding whatever degree Lisa achieved. It was suddenly more important for Lisa to marry David who was an only son who inherited a profitable vineyard. Suddenly her own racism got put in the deep freeze for him because he had dinero. There was a reason that Lisa didn't want Lillian or DisGrace around for extended lengths of time.
Cynthia: Yeah, boundaries. He always waits for her to cross the line. Remember the time she got him to walk in on her half-naked? He should have told her to put on a sweater.
Though it is rare for the aggressor/prey roles to be reversed, it does happen. When a male is too handsy or forward or will not take no for an answer it is perfectly acceptable for a woman to move his hands for him and when that does not work a nice red handprint on a cheek generally sends the message. We big strong men are just expected to put up with it or brush it off as a compliment when women act the same way. A man who slaps the peedoodleshit out of a woman would be crucified. That is what David needs to do. Tell her twice to keep her gladpaws off the merchandise, the third time is the charm and slap her ass into next week.
Don't get me wrong I am not a hitter, but the same rules apply to all us in most cases, it should in all.
(I know suing her would not solve the problem. Or even be taken seriously. But it's a thought.)
I would have been perfectly happy to see Dave tell her twice to keep her gladpaws off of him, and then offer more substantial encouragement for the third offense. Though the better third-time response would be to kick her and her mother out.
I don't know what men are supposed to do about gropy women if they don't have the option to evict them!
But then I would be absent from the patio for however long, and the patio is MUCH more fun than the show.
Or David could just go ahead and start sleeping with her, and thank her for ALL she is doing for him and the kids. All the while never letting her forget that his endgame is to be with Luci and she is like an unpaid employee. That would partially deplete her arsenal. It would be fun to see her strategy then. :-)
In a way, it would be fun to hear him give that speech to Grace. But I don't think Luci would approve!
As for Juan being bland, remember his Joker-style hysteria a few weeks ago? I think we can expect that again before this is over.
Kirby, I wouldn't be here either. But nobody would ever know the difference.
Loved David's visit to Juan's apartment. Finally he's vowing to take someJuan down.
And you most certainly WOULD be missed! In fact, I was wondering where you were, and when I scrolled back through the comments I found that there were a bunch (including one from you) that I hadn't seen.
He has known about NoJuan's Water Caper for how long? He has had the Acid-Wine fiasco how long ago? Has he actually done anything? "You mean old bad bad bad boy, I'm gonna beat you up." Uh Huh I'm shakin.
I wouldn't have any experience in those things, but I have heard that if you want to crush someJuan's face, it is more effective to 'Just Do It.' Talking to the intended recipient beforehand yields spotty results.
That said, what is Dave doing to get to the bottom of NoJuan's activities? He did go talk to Brain Gut, but that is on a slow boat to China. Note to David, to actually DO something, you have to DO Something.
Every night I hope it will be different. Maybe tonight will be the night.
At least he tried to get Gut to look at Juan. I think Gut wouldn't mind busting Juan, since Juan is always asking him for "favors."
Susanlynn, I think this show IS anti-marriage. You outlined it perfectly in your comment on April 6. Marriage took a rock to the head in the first week and it's sunk lower with every episode. ITA with Delilah's frustration with lack of passion between Luci and "DudVeed" and L. Linda's end for DisCrazy is hilarious and perfect! Tofie has so many razor sharp, laser-guided analyses on Marta, Lil, DG and Dave, it's impossible to quote them all. Tofie, your "Two tailed coin to me." comment today at 9:07 a.m. was one of those. Too many to quote from Urban, Diana, DY, Julie, Bill and Kirby, man, you be killing me. Also loved the 250 pound "girlfriend." But this really stands out for me for a character reveal on Lil and a glimmer into a bit of the darkness that is her maniacally smiling, doggedly (as in bitch) persistent daughter:
DisGrace thinks that if Mark would have murdered Luciana it would have done them a favor. Lil tells her to be careful what she says! Lil says the way to get rid of Luciana is decently and intelligently, not by murder! --Cynthia
This is to Lil's credit and goes along with her refusal to have Fer mind-forked to get David. I believe Lil thinks that Fer really was emotionally fragile, even suicidal. The writers initially led us to believe, remember, that Lil wasn't on board with DG's mental manipulations of Fer but later they seem to have forgotten this and Lilian only offered weak objections to DG's "helping" Fer. Anyway, I believe Lil when she says murder is going to far. The revelation that DG murdered Lisa had better be HUGE in its impact on Lil and the consequences for DG.
Another reveal related to skidmark's murder is how upset Perla got when she realized nojuan set Mark up and talked so easily and flippantly about skidmark's having been shot to death. Perla was really shocked and turned off. Agree with many of you that Perla will absolutely turn nojuan in and it may be over Carito's getting hurt or killed. Carito's long, pained expression make her so look like dead woman walking, I can't see her surviving this. I thought skidmark was going to off her but, of course, that's off the table. nojuan is going to threaten her in some way and he's got a plot gun.
Anywho. I have binge-watched and read comments and I also am in it for the Patio. Susan, I'm also tired of DG's relentless assault on clueless Duh-veed who is maybe not so clueless. Tofie is right, he's outsourced his kids, is living with DG as his wife and mother of his kids. If he could keep that arrangement and have Luci as a mistress without Fer's head exploding, he would. Luci, however, would never allow that and neither would DG who would try to kill Luci first. As a matter of fact WHEN Luci and Dave finally marry (a privilege not allowed any other characters in this show) DG will be right there to try disrupt the wedding in a spectacular and crazed way where she will be killed. Luci and Dave will then tie the knot, or attach the ball and chain, in a later ceremony.
Thanks to all youze guys. Commenters and a Phenomenal Recap Team! I guess we have another two or three episodes tonight, hunh?
Tofie, you are dead on with your assessment of Duh-vid and whoever coined that nickname, I shall totally be cribbing it.
Juan is not the greatest villain by any means, but I do enjoy it when he Joker-laughs. More of that would be good.
Urban, I can't imagine Caray without your strong, intelligent voice.
You are an integral, greatly respected presence here. I have always enjoyed your wry comments and your dialog translations are simply superb.
You are so generous with your time! And you are greatly appreciated.
You continue to make Caray a better place and your voice is very, very important.
Diana
Lila: "Lil wasn't on board with DG's mental manipulations of Fer but later they seem to have forgotten this and Lilian only offered weak objections to DG's "helping" Fer." Lil doesn't know about DG's mental manipulations of Fer. Lil told her not to do it, and DG agreed... and told the doctor not to tell Lil what they were up to.
So this means there is actually a double-anvil. It's bad enough that Lil, Fer, and Dave will have to deal with the truth about Lisa's death, but when they find out what DG was paying Dr Evil to do, OMG, the pain, the pain!
We have waited so long for DG and Juan to get their just deserts. I hope it'll be something better than a hole in the head. Much as I admire Gut's marksmanship, I feel we deserve better!
(And for my sake, I hope it's only two episodes tonight... I don't think I could handle three!)
Oh yeah, brain caught up........ it was with the cute twins and Ana Leal the pole dancer MCET or something? George Salinas was the widowed Daddy with a Shoe full of kids.
It is only about 6 weeks old. Not even flying yet, but already almost as large as Mom.
When he's hungry, I'd say Chirpy.
Gracias, Diana. I do my best.
I'm sure that when the sh&t hits the fan about what DisGrace has been up to there will be lots of fur flying.
Episode, work got hectic. Theres lots
Of stuff happening here, something is gonna blow. David, poor bamboozled and
Blind david. When will the blinders call off? Really, when?
Thanks Cynthia.
Back to this trainwreck, which--assuming they keep up the two-hacked-eps-per-night thing, and they almost certainly will--should theoretically end during the last week of April. I wonder if we would be at least a little more forgiving if David wasn't made to look so generally ineffective/useless in just about every situation that doesn't involve some sort of world-threatening crisis. Not that he's the only misused character--a case might be made that Marta may actually rival him in this regard--but for the guy with top billing over the entire cast, the writers basically made him react to everything and not really act and ouch how that still burns. Couldn't we at least have gotten some Dead Lisa hallucinations to nudge him along or something?
