Vino el Amor #112-113; Thursday, April 6, 2017: Fighting for Position

Repeat from yesterday: Begin with Lu and Dave telling each other their feelings. One day all their problems will resolve. In time they will find out if they have made the right decisions. Lu tells him she is happy when they can talk about the things that come from their heats. Dave says he doesn’t want her to be waiting for something that may not ever be. But Lu does not want to lose faith and Dave doesn’t want to lose faith either. He just worries that this is not fair to Luciana.

Lilian and Grace talk about what happened with Mark. Lil thinks it is David’s fault that Mark came to the vineyard, because he hired all these awful employees. [How the heck does she think you can have a productive vineyard to produce wine without employees?] Grace thinks that it would have been a good thing if Mark would have killed Luciana, so she could be out of the way. Now at least Lil does not agree with DisGrace’s thinking in fact she finds it horrifying. DisGrace thinks that if Mark would have murdered Luciana it would have done them a favor. Lil tells her to be careful what she says! Lil says the way to get rid of Luciana is decently and intelligently, not by murder! [Hopefully Lil will find out what DisGrace did to Lisa soon!]

Back at the employee’s house, all are saying that they are glad this is over. Leon notices that something is different about Carito. Marta returns and tells everyone she went to talk with Gutierrez. She has decided that Gut is a good guy and finds it ironic that she thought he was so bad, but ended up saving Lu’s life. She puts it this way: “Now the man who caused me the most pain, ends up being the man who saved my daughter’s life.”

At breakfast the family talks about what Fernanda is going to be doing for her community activities for her university application. Grace gets Bobby all excited about a fútbol school in San Francisco he can go to. Grace tells Dave she just wants to see Bobby and Fernanda happy in their lives. Dave says the most important thing is for them to help others. Dave thinks it’s a good idea and DisGrace will use her connections to get him an appointment there. Grace makes a point to say to David that she really cares about Fer and Bobby’s happiness.

At Santa Barbara Vineyard, Miguel brings Erica her medicine, they kiss and look very happy.

Lu and Susan talk and Susan is feeling very empty and alone. Lu tells her that a lot of people love her including Cesar. But she feels terrible about what Mark did to everyone. Lu says it’s difficult to forget the past, but they must move forward. She shares that she and Dave talked about how they still love each other but the things that separate them are too much.

Gutierrez comes to see Dave, tells him they are done with the crime scene. Gut believes that Mark is the one who sabotaged the wine. Dave doesn’t think so because Mark didn’t really have a motive. Gut wants to close the case and needs proof that Juan was involved.

Deleted scene: Cesar walks in and Dave tells him that Mark was accused of everything, the immigrants and all. But Dave thinks that Juan is behind everything and he’s going to see to it that Juan pays for all this.

Fer comes to see Tano in the distillery as he is packing bottles. She tells him he looks handsome while he’s working. Then she tells him about her day but wants to spend more time with him. They make plans for Tano to meet Fer after school, eat together, and he can take her over to the association to do her community work.

Dave comes to see Juan at his apartment and makes accusations about what Juan did. Dave says he is not going to rest until he can prove that Juan is responsible for the sabotage and Juan goes to jail. Dave calls Juan a piece of trash who just pretended to be his friend and will make sure he goes to jail one day. Juan says, “Oh Dave, there is no proof!”

Lu sees Tano in distillery and they discuss how Fer has become so important to him. He doesn’t want Lu to be angry with him because of Grace. He thinks that Grace is really trying to do good things. Lu tries to explain that everything DisGrace does is for herself and is all lies. She is a “mentirosa”.  Tano can’t figure out why Lu sees things the way she does. She looks at Tano in disbelief, wondering how he too, could get so hoodwinked by DisGrace’s machinations.

Juan tells Perla how he enjoys seeing David so angry about all that happened and about how he is not at fault because of what happened with Mark. She pleads with him to abandon his absurd hate and quest for revenge. But Juan wants Dave to pay for all of Juan’s perceived problems. She warns him that all this can come out very badly for him. Perla wants no part of that if all he wants to do is hurt David.

Bobby has good news for Dave. He has an appointment with the director of the fútbol school via Grace’s “connections.” Bobby wants his dad to come with him for the appointment and drop everything he is doing.  He complains that his dad has no time for him but has time for everyone else.

Sonia busy in kitchen when Leon comes in, she has a lot to do. She is just frazzled running around the kitchen and her mind is not into romance right now. He finally tells her he tells her he wants a night with her! He has Sonia’s attention finally.

Grace tells Lil she has talked to Anderson on the phone about Fer not needing the “therapy” anymore. Lil tells DisGrace now that Fer is better she should concentrate on Bobby now. She also tells Lil about arranging the fútbol thing.

Lu tells Dave about a restaurant in SF who loved the wine. But she promised that Dave could come and talk with them and already made the appointment without knowing Dave would be tied up with the fútbol thing with Bobby. They fight and argue and acted like a grumpy old man with her. He says he is going to spend more time with his kids and to move the appointment because he can’t go. “As you say”, says Luciana, and she walks out the door. [Gee, Dave, don’t you have a task scheduler on your Microsoft program or your gmail for your company email so that your staff can know your schedule?]

Marta and León are talking in the employees’ kitchen about Gut saving Lu’s life. He asks her if she is wanting another chance with Gut. Marta claims she is just grateful and appreciative

Mig and Erica talk about their strategies to win. Erica says with Miguel at her side, they are really going places together. Then they start talking love and the music begins…Later, Erica finds out that her school in Spain has recognized their wine from the wine competition. They are inviting her to a conference there and she invites Miggy to go with her.

Juan now comes to visit Gutierrez and Gut tells Juan that he’s going to re-open the case about the spoiled wine because David asked him to. He explains that there is no evidence that Mark actually did it, so that is the way things are right now Juan is not happy and says the detectives better not bother him because he will sue them for harassment! Gut tells him as long as he had nothing to do with it, he has nothing to worry about. Juan leaves.

Lu comes to complain to Susan about what happened with Dave about the appointment and so forth. All this was Grace’s fault because Lu thinks Grace is sabotaging Dave into this. Lu says she’s going to do this herself because of David doesn’t care about the vineyard, she sure does! She is taking matters into her own hands.

Ramon and Leon talk then Tano comes in and tells them he’s all registered for community college. León says he will help Tano out when he has to study. Ramon is glad that Fernanda is a good influence for Tano to go back to school.

Grace puts on the act about how she is being so helpful with Bobby to get into this fútbol school. He tells Grace about the appointment he was supposed to go to and it’s not possible to move the appointment, which is the same as Bobby’s appointment at the school for fútbol.

Miguel comes to visit Susan and she tells him all about what happened with Mark and the standoff resulting in Mark’s death. He tells her “chin up” and she needs to move on with her life as this chapter is over.

Dave calls Mr. Harrison at the Sunset Restaurant, but Lu comes in with the good news that the restaurant decided to go with their wine! This is one of the most important and best restaurants in San Francisco! Dave is thrilled and he and Lu hug together. He then apologizes for his previous nasty behavior.

More mother/daughter talk: It’s all over the papers that Gut saved Luciana. Lil says Marta has no dignity. She asks Grace about how it’s going with Bobby and Grace says she is making herself indispensable.

Leon is in the distillery office and Sonia comes in. He says, “Sonia, we have to talk.” They seem to be playing a “boss/employee” role playing fantasy game. He sternly asks to close the blinds as if to “discipline an unruly employee.” Then they start a make out session right there on the desk! [I guess they can’t wait to go to a motel room]

Cesar and Lu talk about the previous night and she says that it will take time to get over it. Grace interrupts…she comes to say thanks hypocritically about the restaurant contract but proceeds to lay into her. They fight back and forth and Lu says DisGrace is playing a game to manipulate the children. She is just using them for her own interests. Grace says Lu has no right to be around or have any kind of access to “her family”. DisGrace says that David must spend more time with his children and with her.

Lil comes to visit Gut and he is just getting off the phone. Lil offers to be his PR. She will get back with him if he is willing to be nice to her. He wants no more drama. She says as long as he doesn’t mention Marta again. He does ask her what the real problem is between Juan and David, but she claims she doesn’t know.

Fer comes home after her exams and Dave asked her how it went. She had a sad face she was putting on but then changed to smiles because she thinks she really did well! David tells her he’s very proud of her. She is sure she passed this time and will get her results in a week. He tells her he will do all that he can so that everything can go well for her in the future.

Mig runs into Luciana and asks what’s wrong. She tells him it’s because of Grace. Anyway he says he was very worried about her and didn’t realize she had been in such danger. If Mark had done anything to her it would have driven him crazy and no matter what, he is always going to worry about her well-being.

So guess what? DisGrace talked to the right people and they are going to do everything they can to get Bobby into the Fútbol school. Dave then says he is soooooo appreciative of everything that Grace has done. [Please don’t tell me he’s falling for DisGrace]

Next morning Sonia brings León a nice protein drink so that he can keep up his performances with her. He’s a little embarrassed, but Sonia says no one is in the house. They start to make out again and fall to the floor.

Dave says he talked to the Mr. Harrison about their wine and Harrison says that he loved it and they have the contract. Dave and Luciana hug and Susan watches on. Susan says that Luciana has worked tirelessly on behalf of the vineyard. David says if they have the best wine, it’s because they have the best team! [End of episode 113]
[There were other deleted scenes, but I didn’t think they were all that necessary because they were a lot of the “same ol’, same ol’” conversations. I found the conversations at the SB Vineyard to be a little choppy in this Univision episode, as they just did not seem to flow right.]

Cynthia: my thoughts on last night:

1.) Glad to see Tano going back to school since FerBrat is a big influence.

2.) Cougar Sonia & Leon the Cub getting their sex escapade session. Surprised they didn't go to San Francisco to do it.

3.) Graciela plotting to destroy Luciana: Fast Forward!

4.) Did Carito really tell Gutierrez everything ? NOPE.

5.) David is obviously falling for Graciela.

6.) Ramon's body language when Marta said that Gutierrez saved Luciana's life was WTH!

7.) Perla: You made your own bed by siding with Juan. No lie in it!

Appreciate this Cynthia and the deleted scenes.

"he is soooooo appreciative of everything that Grace has done"

I don't see galan in David just because two women want him. I see a lazy, entitled do nothing successfully leveraging two women against each other that competently handle his kids and household and his business.

At table Graciela provides an update of what transpires daily with the children, takes note of what needs to be done and delivers, earning a deserved pat on the head encouraging more wife/mother behavior.

Luciana is consumed from morning till night with the success and brand of the vineyard refusing to quit despite little commitment to the same from the owner. Though frustrated when he is preoccupied with his vest buttons she doubles and pipes down with a pat on the head and a private "if only" declaration of tepid love.

Both women deserve a decision. Defacto wife or the girlfriend. I know Graciela has no self respect so I'm hopeful Luciana doesn't disappoint me and shows hers.

Cynthia, fantastic screen shots. Your recap was superb as usual. You have such a flair for writing!

You never fail to translate so much that I missed. You pick the dialog you translate very carefully: "She puts it this way: “Now the man who caused me the most pain, ends up being the man who saved my daughter’s life.”

I imagine I would be beyond grateful and thankful if were Marta. But in the long run, does saving Luci's life actually negate destroying her family to the point she could ever actually have a relationship with him? While I believe in forgiveness, a romantic relationship would be out of the realm of possibility for me.

David. Sigh. “He then apologizes for his previous nasty behavior”. Which is significant. “He just worries that this is not fair to Luciana”. (Ya think?) As disturbing as his treatment of Luci has been, when Fer appeared with her sad face after taking the exam, it appeared he was getting ready to yell at her. Again. Basta!

Steve, you think David is actually falling for Graciela? I think he is showing appreciation for what he perceives she has done for his children. He has been telling her to keep her distance, so I'm not quite convinced.

"Though frustrated when he is preoccupied with his vest buttons she doubles and pipes down with a pat on the head and a private "if only" declaration of tepid love". Very powerful tofie. And sadly, very true (although I smiled at "preoccupied with his vest buttons").

Of course the highlight for me was the Sonia/Leon scenes. I just adore Veronica. “They start to make out again and fall to the floor”. Is it no longer fashionable for couples to actually use a bedroom anymore? First the offices (Mig and Erica/Sonia and Leon), then the kitchen. I fear I might have to start eying other’s kitchens and offices a bit more suspiciously and take inventory of where I sit in the future. :)

“Lil tells her to be careful what she says! Lil says the way to get rid of Luciana is decently and intelligently, not by murder!” Well, I am extremely relieved Lili is not in favor of murder to accomplish her nefarious goals. Of course, while deliberate snuffing out of the physical being seems to be off limits, the destruction of the emotional component, (ripping families apart by having them deported) is not.

I can’t tell if Brian knows Juan is guilty or not. It irks me that I am even concerned with what he does or doesn’t know, or feels or doesn’t feel (this merry go round with Lil and Marta has to stop. Pleeze!).

I have to admit, I am a fan of the crazed, over the top, teeth barring, mustache twirling villain. I'm thinking Alberto Estrella in La Malquerida. I know Juan's a bad guy. But he's just too low key for me. I sense resentment toward David and the taunting is evident. But I need to see and feel that fiery hatred. It's two bland guys having a disagreement.

Cynthia, thank you for bringing all this to life so vividly for us!

Diana

Thank You Cynthia, what a trooper you are.

The next time DisGrace prisses in to have a little private catfight I hope Luci has her rock ready.
Tano and Fer are good for each other. Let it go Dave, You have a pretty, 18 year old daughter who does not even have any kids yet.

DisGrace and Lil are hateful and as evil as you can be, but Dave is Captain of this ship, most of this lays at his feet. What he is doing or not doing and allowing is beyond unforgivable. Not a manager, not a leader, not a parent.

Tofie you are so on the head of the nail, " a lazy, entitled do nothing" . There must be an App for that.

I fail to see what Luc and Grac find so "irresistible" about Dudvid. He may look like he is dripping with testosterone, but he Aint. Hardly anything is attractive (to a normal healthy woman) about a helpless grown man.

Diana I was waiting for Dave and NoJuan to whip out their nail files and have a kindergarten sword fight.

Kirby, "Hardly anything is attractive (to a normal healthy woman) about a helpless grown man".

Absolutely right. But might I might add you also provided the reality? "He may look like he is dripping with testosterone".

And there you have it. I always have felt that personality and heart come first. But damn, he is fine.

Diana

It's always about Marta. Boohoo what Brian did to me by breaking my heart and subsequently making it impossible for me to hate him by saving Luciana, oh how my hormones moan.

Puke. What about Luciana? At 10 she's arrested, roughed up, deported and didn't have a change of clothes. For over a decade Marta refused to leave her comfortable life and daily cat fight with Lilian for a weekend to check on her own flesh and blood. And when her cuckold husband prematurely dies and daughter suddenly and inconveniently returned Marta thought it best she leave as she quickly jumped Brian while Marco's ashes still warm. How horrible to see Luciana's face as a reminder it would look really, really bad to keep sleeping the the guy that headed the round up and one way trip to Mexico. Go ahead Marta and blame Luciana for being involved in putting you in the present dilemma. Don't emphasize with the terror the real victim experienced protecting her friend but do elevate the gratitude you owe Brian, who was doing his job, so the world can see you suffer unfairly.

Thank you so much , Cynthia , for another excellent recap. I appreciate the time and talent that obviously went into it.

Wow, I got to sleep in an hour later than usual, and the commenters are up and busy.

Tofie..you said everything that I have been thinking. Dave has it made in the shade with his two groupies covering the home front and the business. I think that we might all know a guy or three like Dave...users who let those around do all the heavy lifting.

Yes, Diana, at a certain point in life, one comes to realize what a real man is...and it is not Dave. I am starting to think that the vests are too tight and cutting off oxygen to Dave's wee brain.

I agree that Juan isn't much of a villain. He is an extremely laid back bad guy. He is a lazy villain in much the same way that Dave is a lazy hero. #yawnzzzzz Please, writers, tell me why I should care about these people.

Evil little DisGrace last night lamenting that SkidMark didn't put a bullet in Luci's head shocked Lillian. We are seeing the growing divide between Garden Variety Nasty Lillian and Psycho Murderer DisGrace.

DG talked about it like missing the shoes she has been wanting on sale at Macy's.
And now it seems DisGrace has nearly everyone except Luci, Siezeher and Soo-Sane fooled.

Tofie in my book, Marta is hardly better than Lillian. The points she has earned over Lillian for caring for Fer and Bobby are erased by the points subtracted for Luci and Marcos.

If you call wiping the butt and nose and making jello for Fernanda and Bobby daily caring, I guess she gets points but for that she was paid, fed and given a roof over her head and access to torment her dead lovers wife. Marta cooks and Lilian drinks and Marta cheats and Lilian doesn't. Marta cared for one biological child and ignored the other and so did Lilian. Lilian believes a man her ticket to ride and Marta thought Fernando would financially take care of her and her children and leave his wife. Lilian takes a younger lover and so Marta wants and beds the same guy. Lilian supports occasionally and berates occasionally her least favorite child depending on what is in her best interest and so does Marta. Marta cultivates an orbiter to support and date and so does Lilian and both Marta and Lilian love a good pity party. Two tailed coin to me.

I hope that Ramon, Adolfo, and even Gut all move on , and that Marta and Lilian do not end up with any of these hombres. I am tired of this storyline

Thanks, Cynthia! I really appreciate you dealing with two double-shot episodes in a row. Great screencaps as usual. The pictures say it all...

"How the heck does she think you can have a productive vineyard to produce wine without employees?" Maybe she thinks it can all be done with machines... which would be fine until those machines become self-aware. (That would be a different kind of story.) But at least Lil draws the line somewhere short of seeing Luciana murdered. On the other hand, wasn't it stupid for her to tell Gut not to mention Marta? He probably wasn't even thinking about Marta until Lil said her name. Now Gut's thinking about Marta again. Brilliant, Lil.

Funny Marta went out of her way to see Gutierrez even though she already thanked him the other night. Maybe she will go over there tonight and thank him again.

I'm glad we got to see Leon and Sonia last night. I don't feel as bad about the cuts from the other night now.

I also liked how Fernando was okay with working with the immigrants despite Lil's nasty remarks. I really would like David to ask Fer what she has against Luci, because my guess is that she won't even have an answer, just a vague feeling that someone told her that Luci was no good. (Fer even told Luci not long ago that Luci always tells her the right thing at just the right time.)

So what is going on with this futbol school in SF? How far away is that? Is it far enough away that Bobby has to stay there M-F? Or maybe even all week long? Brava, Gracie. I can't wait till you get yours.

Tano's going to take Fer to do her community work? I thought Fer wasn't supposed to see him again? What happened to being strict?

David was somewhat closer to being in galan mode last night, at least most of the time when he wasn't arguing with Luci over his schedule. And I liked his lavender vest. But there was so much back-and-forth with the appointments, I thought I would get whiplash. Actually it made me think that we were back to single, unedited episodes again, because surely Uni would have whittled this all down to one scene.... but I was wrong.

I didn't see any indication that Dave is falling for Grace. It seems that every time he tells Grace he's not interested in her, he feels that the matter is settled and he doesn't have to worry about it again. So he's expressing the regular type of gratitude that anyone would for someone helping his kid get into futbol school. But Grace sees this gratitude and interprets it as something else, and will escalate her behavior with David until he has to knock her down again. We've been through this cycle so many times, perhaps David has a problem with pattern recognition.

Julie..I see where you are going here..evil space robot vinomaking machines. I will save you a seat outside the vice principal's office.

Diana: "It's two bland guys having a disagreement." Exactly... don't get me wrong; in the real world, being able to legally cut off a vineyard's water supply would be a big deal. Souring the wine would be a big deal. But by telenovela standards, that's just two things when it should be more like a half-dozen. And that half-dozen could be combated dramatically by, let me say it again, a team of people who put aside their petty differences to work together to accomplish something big.

I didn't see David as helpless last night. Compared to a Colunga galan, yes. But compared to everyday David, no. Except for the dumb scheduling conflict, I thought he was more on top of things than usual.

Sigh. Maybe I have lowered my standards too much. It is true that Luci was busting her butt over the wine and he acted as though it was a personal imposition.

Tofie, your analysis of Lil and Marta reminds me again of what a shame it is that they couldn't find enough common ground for an awkward truce. Maybe that would be impossible since Lil thinks that employees are beneath her. But if she could have squelched her snobbery just a little, she might have found that being nice to Marta would have improved her relationship with the kids.

Susanlynn, you got me. Self-aware grape-picking machines are indeed a first step towards the robotpocalypse.

Is anyone here watching this telenovela on the DirecTVNow streaming service?

I am currently streaming my TV shows using Sony Playstation Vue, and it does not offer Telemundo or Univision. Plus Hulu just dropped all Univision shows.

If you are streaming this program on DirecTVNow, are the English closed captions available?

Susanlynn, when Adolfo sheepishly told Erica about his date with Lili and she voiced (innocently enough) her non-enthusiasm, the poor man actually seemed to wince. I wasn't sure about the character initially, but he seems to be a good man. He deserves far better than Lili...

Brian? I don't think he deserves anyone (grumble, grumble)...

It's Ramon I feel for. I think he will end up with Marta. Not a win in my eyes, but he has had his eyes on the prize (her) for many years. If she is really what he wants (and every indication is that she is), then bless him.

"It is true that Luci was busting her butt over the wine and he acted as though it was a personal imposition". Julie, you captured why David's attitude is rubbing me the wrong way. He wasn't happy with the wine competition, yet failed to attend due to some lame reason I can't even recall, Fer didn't do well on her initial exam yet he really did nothing to help her. All this time he is supposedly spending with his children seems to be his scowling over paperwork behind closed doors.

I think the football thing is the first step for Bobby to "disappear" permanently. First, being allowed home only on weekends. Being sent to boarding school is likely next.

Diana

David failed to attend the wine competition because Fernanda was asleep (sedated) after her meltdown from having him yelling in her face. I don't think it was lame of him to stay with her, but it was his choice to do that and let Luci handle the competition on her own. His attitude should have been "wow, thanks for covering for me, how great that we made the finals." Not "you screwed it up."

And you're right - I thought David said he was going to make time to be with his kids. That doesn't seem to be happening.

OK Julie, then I am confused. I thought her meltdown didn't coincide with the competition - that it happened before then and that she was considerably calmer.

I guess I got that wrong. Otherwise, I would have been more sympathetic.

Diana

I would never have called David staying home with Fer to comfort her as "lame".

I just tried to find a comment someone posted as to why he stayed home but of course I can't find it. It didn't have anything to do with Fer as I recall.

Diana

I remember because I was recapping the night of the meltdown AND the competition.

Everybody canceled their stuff because of Fernanda. David didn't go to the wine competition, and Lilian canceled her pseudo-date at the competition with Gut (it wasn't really a date, more like an "I'll see you there"), and Gracie skipped her art exhibit.

For most of the time, they were just taking turns watching Fer sleep. They really didn't all need to stay home. So, lame, not lame, whatever - that's beside the point. He's so quick to praise Gracie for pulling a few strings to get Boby into a futbol school, it would have been nice to express some appreciation to the woman he supposedly loves for taking his place at a competition that's important to him and his business.

If there was some other reason Dave stayed home in addition to being with Fernanda, I missed it and I'm sorry!

David has outsourced his children to Graciela. She knows what is going on with them and recaps at breakfast and dinner while at Davids side. She listens and proactively schedules time and brings David in for an hour or two when necessary. He is aware of this and obviously fine with it.

You know Gracie didn't actually get him into the futbal school. She simply set up an appointment for Bobby to find out there were no openings, but made it look like she saved the world.

Then when that failure came to light she calls (supposedly) her Christian friend soccer player to help Bobby get into another programme.

All in all she has realistically done zilch, nada, nothing zero for either of the kids but makes enough of a commotion about it so it looks like she is doing wonderful things for them. We NEVER actually saw her studying with Fer, asking her questions and checking answers like you do.

I have tutored almost all my neighbor's and associates' kids and a few of friends' spouses too, and it is not fun and games helping someone understand things that they just don't 'get'. SusanLynn should be able to attest to this.

DisGrace would never be able to have enough empathy to see it how they see it and see how they don't understand.

If this show had 'ended' about 40 episodes ago, and now we were in the 'happylogue' showing how all these misfits somehow got on with their lives and were happily sailing along it would have been better. We could now be catching glimpses of DisGrace sinking deeper and deeper into the misery of complete insanity of being DisFigured and locked away with nothing to keep her company but an unbreakable stainless steel mirror and three walls and bars.

We could be enjoying seeing what kinds of parents Miggy and Erika are and enjoy the tender scenes with NoJuan and his new 250 pound "girlfriend" and all his buddies in cell block 7..

We would relish Cesar's new offices in his private practice with his gorgeous receptionist SuSan out front keeping everyone happy till their appointment comes up.

Seeing Lillian with her shopping cart and a half bottle of rotgut wine in the seedier parts of town would be special.

Oh it could be such a happy tale.

And David has succeeded at nothing with his children choosing to have Graciela do it and he believes there is progress and why she is showered with accolades. He even allowed her to use his living room for a press conference so Graciela could tell the world of her commitment to him and their children. David has given her agency and he defers to her management of the household and child rearing. We and Luciana know her motives untoward however, Graciela does attend to Bobby and Fernanda is better and she is the one putting forth the effort so should get the credit.

Gracas, Cynthia.

What Luciana can see and David fails to is that once DisGrace gets Moby Dave those kids are goners. Fernanda will be away at college and DisGrace will ship Bobby off to a boarding school where he will always be an e-mail away.

If the futbol school is in SF, it's an hour away. That's two hours a day on the road if it's not also a boarding school. That's the gateway to shipping him off to boarding school halfway around the planet.

Well, I am going to try to post a comment. I have tried twice with no success.

Kirby,,bless you for all the tutoring you have done, and you gave a very accurate description of what it is like to tutor someone. You have to explain in as many ways as you can think of until you see a beam of light happening. It takes patience, but it can be very rewarding.

I have to admit that the actress playing Grace us doing a great job. She could give Angelique Boyer a run for the money. I would love to see the two INA telenovela with Rulli right in the middle.

I was supposed to tutor high school kids on their writing skills when I was in college, but all of the kids needed help with their algebra and there were no math majors in the program, so I helped them with that instead. Most of the time it just took a little patience and careful listening to figure out how to un-confuse them, but for a few kids I just didn't know how to help. I don't think I could do it full-time in a professional capacity, especially with demanding parents expecting results!

Grace already admitted that she didn't do well in school, so I don't know what help she could be to someone who was studying calculus. Fetching lemonade, maybe. Not sure how much time she actually spent with Fer, for that matter.

Julie..I think that either Dave or Grace could have easily found a teacher to tutor Fer because many teachers tutor on the side. It is not cheap, but I am sure Dave could afford a few hours of tutoring . Regarding math, I really think that math ability is mysterious. It seems that it makes perfect sense to some people but not to others. I have a friend who is a school psychologist whose daughter had trouble with math , and he agrees . My older daughter always loved math. She told us that her geometry teacher hated her because she could explain geometry better to her friends then the teacher. Just because you understand something doesn't mean that you can make someone else understand. I loved trig, passed algebra and advanced algebra with As thanks to a good teacher, and got a D in geometry with a poor teacher. Anywho, we all know Grace's interest and love for those kids is just a means of finally reeling in old Dave.

Sue Blogger was down for a couple hours this morning.

If David had wanted a tutor would he have been any better at choosing the tutor than he was at choosing Fer's T H E R A P I S T ?

That would have just been another Golden opportunity for DisGrace to add another minion to her payroll.

Just remembered the time I tutored my 10th grade beau in algebra at my house. He was failing and was not the sharpest pencil in the case... but good looking. After explaining for awhile and giving him some problems to do, he stared at me and asked , "Are those your real eyebrows? "(His mother's were penciled on.)" Followed by , "Let's take a hike.! " I think he also had a little ADD. As I recall, he passed that marking period and was ecstatic .

Thanks for all your comments everyone. It's always so fun to read the comments after I've written the recap and get all your thoughts.

Urban, I think a lot of times when dealing with a psychopath, some people refuse to see that they are being manipulated is because they might be deriving some kind of benefit by cooperating with the psychopath. As long as the person cooperates with the psychopath and doesn't question his/her motive, that psychopath may appear as though he or she is really benevolent and kind. Most are very entertaining and charismatic people so their victims are blinded to the fact that they are being skillfully manipulated.

The minute you question the psychopath and start to realize that everything he/she does is nothing but deception, you then have an enemy. Then the psychopath tries to smear your name and make it appear to everyone else that YOU are the problem.

The characters who see right through DisGrace are Luciana, Susan, and Cesar. Everyone else is just oblivious. What DisGrace has done is manipulated Fer into thinking that Luciana is the problem.

Kirby, I laughed when I saw what you wrote: "and enjoy the tender scenes with NoJuan and his new 250 pound "girlfriend" and all his buddies in cell block 7." LOL! I think that's where we might be headed at the end. I just so wanted to see Juan go to prison where he belongs! Also Kirby, I think that when Bobby talks about "Cristiano" with futbol, he is referring to Cristiano Ronaldo, the famous soccer player that Grace supposedly knows and has connections to because she is so famous.

Tofie, I like how you said that David has effectively outsourced his children to Grace. He hasn't been much of a hands on father, but then when push comes to shove, he overcompensates because of guilt. That's why I believe that he yelled at Luciana about making that appointment with the restaurant. He did not react like a normal person. Since the vineyard is their bread and butter, he should have been grateful that Lu made the appointment and rescheduled Bobby's appointment. But he's letting DisGrace handle everything as though DisGrace was Bobby's mother.

I hope David isn't falling for DisGrace. Unless he's talking himself into it because she appears to be such a good "mother"....who knows? Do you all think he is learning to love Grace? Even if he marries Grace, I believe he will always carry a torch for Luciana.

LOL, Susanlynn, that is really funny.

With math, there is the mechanical ability to solve the problem, and then there's the ability to understand why it works. They always used to explain the "why" before showing us the "how." Giving me the why up front only confused me. I just wanted to learn the how. And then after doing it a few times (or in some cases, a few hundred times, or a zillion times) I would begin to understand why it worked. That might be a backwards way to learn, but it worked for me.

I don't know how they teach math now, but I know they changed it at least once when I was a kid. I have a feeling that there is no one single approach that will work for everyone, so I don't know if changing it every decade or so really helps anyone. (Or maybe it helps some people but makes it worse for others.)

Cynthia, I don't think he's learning to love Grace. I think he's letting her do her thing because it makes his life easier, and he's telling himself there isn't a problem.

When she pushed the relationship stuff at the press conference the other night, he pushed back. Again. He doesn't want her. I haven't seen any hint that he's weakening on this. BUT at the same time, he's unwilling to accept that this situation will never go away. He just does his best to ignore her gooey behavior until she oversteps. (I am not sure exactly where he draws the line, but groping him in front of the press was definitely on the other side of that line.)

I don't think David is falling for Graciela either but the world without her is way more complicated than he is willing to face. Lisa died and he hibernated until Luciana appeared but it is Graciela that keeps him from crawling back into the cave and hiding.

Yes David gets pushed too far and he snaps at Graciela but in public he goes along. Even when he snaps at Graciela I haven't seen the same anger towards her as he has towards Luciana when she defends herself from his barrage.

I felt sorry for Luciana when Miguel came to see how she was and told her he too couldn't imagine a life without her around. She was so grateful to hear that from her friend.

Very true, Julie. Another problem I see with David is that he just doesn't set boundaries. I saw this from the first show when Grace was so handsy with him and Lisa had to tell her to keep her grubby paws off of her husband. But David should have been the one to lay down that law and make her understand that he is NOT in love with her and never will be. Grace is under the illusion that she can make David fall for her by manipulating herself into his life with the children. Even after Lisa died (even though he didn't know Grace was the murderer) every time she hit on him he could have said something like, "I don't like you, I'm not attracted to you, now go find someone else, because I'm just not interested, period."

There are many people in this world who can't imagine a relative being toxic. I grew up with a few people like this.

My mother was a narcissist and those don't make good mothers. The second you are more than a cute fashion accessory -- like a porcelain doll in a party dress -- you're of no value to her. Anything that contradicted her idea of what was proper was a criticism of her. Daughters of such women always feel somehow inferior because this brainwashing starts early. It takes years and a lot of effort to correct 80% of it.

When your own achievements exceed hers they are suddenly of no importance. This is what I see in Lillian regarding whatever degree Lisa achieved. It was suddenly more important for Lisa to marry David who was an only son who inherited a profitable vineyard. Suddenly her own racism got put in the deep freeze for him because he had dinero. There was a reason that Lisa didn't want Lillian or DisGrace around for extended lengths of time.

Tofie: "Even when he snaps at Graciela I haven't seen the same anger towards her as he has towards Luciana when she defends herself from his barrage." WOW, good observation. That really doesn't bode well for their future. Even if they straighten out all their other problems, I don't see how Dave is suddenly going to stop taking out his frustrations on the woman he loves. Did he do that with Lisa? Where does that come from?

Cynthia: Yeah, boundaries. He always waits for her to cross the line. Remember the time she got him to walk in on her half-naked? He should have told her to put on a sweater.

You Girls, My My My. There has always been this talk of double standards, but nobody recognizes the one double standard which works in reverse and to DidGrace's advantage.

Though it is rare for the aggressor/prey roles to be reversed, it does happen. When a male is too handsy or forward or will not take no for an answer it is perfectly acceptable for a woman to move his hands for him and when that does not work a nice red handprint on a cheek generally sends the message. We big strong men are just expected to put up with it or brush it off as a compliment when women act the same way. A man who slaps the peedoodleshit out of a woman would be crucified. That is what David needs to do. Tell her twice to keep her gladpaws off the merchandise, the third time is the charm and slap her ass into next week.

Don't get me wrong I am not a hitter, but the same rules apply to all us in most cases, it should in all.

Does anyJuan ever wonder who dreams this shit up? TVA was another twisted, unbelievable story. WOW !

Since Grace is still technically an investor in the winery, Dave should be able to sue her for sexual harassment. Too bad he never bothered to find a new lawyer. He REALLY needs one. Unless he wants to spend all of his kiddie time/winery time/Luci time hanging out with Gut at the police station.

(I know suing her would not solve the problem. Or even be taken seriously. But it's a thought.)

I would have been perfectly happy to see Dave tell her twice to keep her gladpaws off of him, and then offer more substantial encouragement for the third offense. Though the better third-time response would be to kick her and her mother out.

I don't know what men are supposed to do about gropy women if they don't have the option to evict them!

Julie I am so tempted to watch ahead and find where David (hopefully) grows a backbone and puts those two in their places. I. like everyone else, am tired of going in circles for the benefit of the show schedule.

But then I would be absent from the patio for however long, and the patio is MUCH more fun than the show.

Or David could just go ahead and start sleeping with her, and thank her for ALL she is doing for him and the kids. All the while never letting her forget that his endgame is to be with Luci and she is like an unpaid employee. That would partially deplete her arsenal. It would be fun to see her strategy then. :-)

Urban isn't it a shame we do not require as much screening and preparation to have children as to drive a car? I know I wouldn't BE HERE.

Kirby, if David would do as you say with Grace, she would only see it as a step in the right direction. Her strategy would be to kill Luci and/or fake a pregnancy.

In a way, it would be fun to hear him give that speech to Grace. But I don't think Luci would approve!

He should have evicted her when he originally intended. Of course, doing so would have nixed the rest of the story.

As for Juan being bland, remember his Joker-style hysteria a few weeks ago? I think we can expect that again before this is over.

Kirby, I wouldn't be here either. But nobody would ever know the difference.

This David and Graciela dance has a history. I can't imagine the hell Lisa went through every time Graciela visited knowing when her back turned Graciela was all over David and he passively allowed her. No wonder Lisa was a nervous wreck and David was insensitive to it just as he is with Luciana. It continues because David is ok it continues.

Thanks, Cynthia. Fine recap and screenshots, especially that last one with David. What a cutiepie.

Loved David's visit to Juan's apartment. Finally he's vowing to take someJuan down.

Urban: "As for Juan being bland, remember his Joker-style hysteria a few weeks ago? I think we can expect that again before this is over." Right! I forgot already.

And you most certainly WOULD be missed! In fact, I was wondering where you were, and when I scrolled back through the comments I found that there were a bunch (including one from you) that I hadn't seen.

If David blew into my house like he did NoJuan's recently I wouldn't even check my Band-Aid supply. Like his looks, all hot air and wind. No action. About the way he is with Luci too. Like kicking the Succubi out and every-frippin-thing else.

He has known about NoJuan's Water Caper for how long? He has had the Acid-Wine fiasco how long ago? Has he actually done anything? "You mean old bad bad bad boy, I'm gonna beat you up." Uh Huh I'm shakin.

I wouldn't have any experience in those things, but I have heard that if you want to crush someJuan's face, it is more effective to 'Just Do It.' Talking to the intended recipient beforehand yields spotty results.

That said, what is Dave doing to get to the bottom of NoJuan's activities? He did go talk to Brain Gut, but that is on a slow boat to China. Note to David, to actually DO something, you have to DO Something.

Miguel knocked himself out trying to find out about the wine. Granted he was trying to clear his own name, but he was motivated and he kept at it. David didn't do nearly as much as Miguel did. (In fact, I think the first thing he did was blame Miguel. Did that help?) That seems a little lopsided, considering it was DAVID'S wine!

Every night I hope it will be different. Maybe tonight will be the night.

At least he tried to get Gut to look at Juan. I think Gut wouldn't mind busting Juan, since Juan is always asking him for "favors."

I suspect that deep down inside Gut knows that Juan is crooked or dirty but he just can't put his finger on it yet. I keep hoping that Gut is smarter than he appears to be

Whew! Finally caught up! Thanks, Cynthia! Man, this Patio IS way more fun than the show, not to mention smarter, wittier, more imaginative! You all have covered the waterfront, cracked me up, made me think and often taken the words right off my keyboard!

Susanlynn, I think this show IS anti-marriage. You outlined it perfectly in your comment on April 6. Marriage took a rock to the head in the first week and it's sunk lower with every episode. ITA with Delilah's frustration with lack of passion between Luci and "DudVeed" and L. Linda's end for DisCrazy is hilarious and perfect! Tofie has so many razor sharp, laser-guided analyses on Marta, Lil, DG and Dave, it's impossible to quote them all. Tofie, your "Two tailed coin to me." comment today at 9:07 a.m. was one of those. Too many to quote from Urban, Diana, DY, Julie, Bill and Kirby, man, you be killing me. Also loved the 250 pound "girlfriend." But this really stands out for me for a character reveal on Lil and a glimmer into a bit of the darkness that is her maniacally smiling, doggedly (as in bitch) persistent daughter:

DisGrace thinks that if Mark would have murdered Luciana it would have done them a favor. Lil tells her to be careful what she says! Lil says the way to get rid of Luciana is decently and intelligently, not by murder!
--Cynthia

This is to Lil's credit and goes along with her refusal to have Fer mind-forked to get David. I believe Lil thinks that Fer really was emotionally fragile, even suicidal. The writers initially led us to believe, remember, that Lil wasn't on board with DG's mental manipulations of Fer but later they seem to have forgotten this and Lilian only offered weak objections to DG's "helping" Fer. Anyway, I believe Lil when she says murder is going to far. The revelation that DG murdered Lisa had better be HUGE in its impact on Lil and the consequences for DG.

Another reveal related to skidmark's murder is how upset Perla got when she realized nojuan set Mark up and talked so easily and flippantly about skidmark's having been shot to death. Perla was really shocked and turned off. Agree with many of you that Perla will absolutely turn nojuan in and it may be over Carito's getting hurt or killed. Carito's long, pained expression make her so look like dead woman walking, I can't see her surviving this. I thought skidmark was going to off her but, of course, that's off the table. nojuan is going to threaten her in some way and he's got a plot gun.

Anywho. I have binge-watched and read comments and I also am in it for the Patio. Susan, I'm also tired of DG's relentless assault on clueless Duh-veed who is maybe not so clueless. Tofie is right, he's outsourced his kids, is living with DG as his wife and mother of his kids. If he could keep that arrangement and have Luci as a mistress without Fer's head exploding, he would. Luci, however, would never allow that and neither would DG who would try to kill Luci first. As a matter of fact WHEN Luci and Dave finally marry (a privilege not allowed any other characters in this show) DG will be right there to try disrupt the wedding in a spectacular and crazed way where she will be killed. Luci and Dave will then tie the knot, or attach the ball and chain, in a later ceremony.

Thanks to all youze guys. Commenters and a Phenomenal Recap Team! I guess we have another two or three episodes tonight, hunh?

Thank you Cynthia! Got busy yesterday and only saw 5 minutes of the show (the part where Tano said he was going to college, yay Tano).

Tofie, you are dead on with your assessment of Duh-vid and whoever coined that nickname, I shall totally be cribbing it.

Juan is not the greatest villain by any means, but I do enjoy it when he Joker-laughs. More of that would be good.

"Kirby, I wouldn't be here either. But nobody would ever know the difference."

Urban, I can't imagine Caray without your strong, intelligent voice.

You are an integral, greatly respected presence here. I have always enjoyed your wry comments and your dialog translations are simply superb.

You are so generous with your time! And you are greatly appreciated.

You continue to make Caray a better place and your voice is very, very important.

Diana

Ugh, what is this Nosotros Los Guapos show? It's even worse than the Pequeños Gigantes. What a weird evening lineup Univision has now. Who's driving this crazy train?

Lila: "Lil wasn't on board with DG's mental manipulations of Fer but later they seem to have forgotten this and Lilian only offered weak objections to DG's "helping" Fer." Lil doesn't know about DG's mental manipulations of Fer. Lil told her not to do it, and DG agreed... and told the doctor not to tell Lil what they were up to.

So this means there is actually a double-anvil. It's bad enough that Lil, Fer, and Dave will have to deal with the truth about Lisa's death, but when they find out what DG was paying Dr Evil to do, OMG, the pain, the pain!

We have waited so long for DG and Juan to get their just deserts. I hope it'll be something better than a hole in the head. Much as I admire Gut's marksmanship, I feel we deserve better!

(And for my sake, I hope it's only two episodes tonight... I don't think I could handle three!)

That Adrian Uribe is a flippin HEARTTHROB. He was in some TN a couple years back and they patio girls were all agaga about he just having a minor roll.

Oh yeah, brain caught up........ it was with the cute twins and Ana Leal the pole dancer MCET or something? George Salinas was the widowed Daddy with a Shoe full of kids.

Mother Eagle feeding teenager.

Thanks, Julie. Ok, I thought Lil was not supposed to know about the mind games with Fer. Lil has to know Fer is on meds (which are now being weaned): I guess she (Lil) thinks Fer really needs them. Oh yeah, the reveal had better be EPIC and EXPLOSIVE!!

Right - it's the Professional Brainwash Job that Lil doesn't know about.

Kirby,
Great picture! Amazing how quickly they grow into adults!
L Linda

Is that a sullen teen or a chirpy one?

Thanks, glad you enjoy it

It is only about 6 weeks old. Not even flying yet, but already almost as large as Mom.

When he's hungry, I'd say Chirpy.

They're replacing PG with another competition show? [rolls eyes]

Gracias, Diana. I do my best.

I'm sure that when the sh&t hits the fan about what DisGrace has been up to there will be lots of fur flying.

Thanks cynthia. I had to catchup with
Episode, work got hectic. Theres lots
Of stuff happening here, something is gonna blow. David, poor bamboozled and
Blind david. When will the blinders call off? Really, when?
Thanks Cynthia.

"When will the blinders faLL Off? I
Hate typos and auto correct.

UA: I still have no idea why Uni's giving the 8pm EST timeslot over to competition shows, but then in large measure a lot of their scheduling and programming choices haven't made much sense to me for a loooong time. (Another case in point: the now-canceled Notanserio Univision, their weird news/anti-President Trump commentary/parody mashup.) As for the incoming La reina de la cancion: apart from singer/actress Sandra Itzel and Lucero (mmm, Luceeeeeeroooooo) it probably just means more time to catch up with my neglected English-language trainwreck soaps.

Back to this trainwreck, which--assuming they keep up the two-hacked-eps-per-night thing, and they almost certainly will--should theoretically end during the last week of April. I wonder if we would be at least a little more forgiving if David wasn't made to look so generally ineffective/useless in just about every situation that doesn't involve some sort of world-threatening crisis. Not that he's the only misused character--a case might be made that Marta may actually rival him in this regard--but for the guy with top billing over the entire cast, the writers basically made him react to everything and not really act and ouch how that still burns. Couldn't we at least have gotten some Dead Lisa hallucinations to nudge him along or something?
