Vino el Amor, #141a, Friday May 5, 2017: Sideways
A Fall from Grace
Grace Under Pressure
Lil and Grace
The Many Faces of Grace (thanks RC)
Juan says to Lilian, "your daughter Lisa didn't die in an accident like everyone thinks. Graciela killed her!" Graciela slowly turns to face her mother.
Lil asks Juan to clarify. Juan explains that he saw Grace coming back from the river after killing Lisa. Grace lamely tries to deny it, but by now she's so nervous she sounds like a chipmunk and has no credibility at all.
Juan reminds Lil of the time Grace abruptly went back to Spain, and the time she agreed to a pact for the three of them, and has always done whatever Juan told her to do, including defending Juan when David was going to fire him, and getting out of the way when Juan wanted to buy Los Olivos. She always helped Juan in exchange for his silence. Grace calls Juan a liar, but Juan continues calmly, "you never let me down until now!"
"You are un maldito!" is Grace's shrill retort. Juan says that he's just giving her what she deserves. "You don't know how much I HATE YOU!!!!!" she screams. "I told you not to mess with me," Juan replies smugly. "You took Perla away from me, so I'm going to take David away from you and cancel your wedding! Now we're even."
And Juan takes off. Grace tries to follow him, with windmilling arms and squeaking protests, but Lilian hauls her back, gets in her face, and demands: "Look at me. Tell me the truth. Tell me if you are guilty of the death of your sister."
Grace's eyes dart downward and to the side, as if looking for a good answer.
Fernanda comes into the house looking for her aunt. She's just in time to see Juan leaving. "Oh hi, Fer," he says. "Tell your father I said congratulations, please." And he's gone.
Fer calls for her father and tells him she just saw Juan. David tells her to forget about Grace for now and stick with Bobby. (I'm sure she will be an adequate bodyguard.)
Grace pulls away from her mother's grasp, averts her eyes, and says she had nothing to do with Lisa's death. She tries to convince Lil that Juan said all those things because he's crazy. But Lil realizes that there must be a reason why Grace did all those things, and why she's been so nervous these last few days. And she murdered a woman. How could she?
"I had no choice!" Grace screeches. She tries to collect herself and get back into poor-victim mode. She says, "Perla was threatening me -" But Lilian wants to know what Perla was threatening Grace with. What was so bad that Grace would take her life? "Tell me please, I beg you!"
Grace averts her eyes again and says she didn't do anything at all. Lilian grabs her head (like a basketball!) and shouts, "STOP LYING!" Grace screams in her shrillest voice yet, "Perla's death wasn't my fault! Neither was the death of your damned dead daughter!"
Stunned, Lilian says, "I don't believe you." "You've never believed me," Grace whines, gathering up her dress and heading for the door, murmuring about marrying David.
Lil hauls her back in again and says, "I'm not letting you go until you tell me everything." (Hmm. She might want to call down to the kitchen for some snacks.) Grace says again that she didn't do anything. Lil knocks her down with a backhand slap. "Crazy old woman," Grace squeaks, and then she makes the best face ever. (Which I couldn't quite capture. Too slow with the keyboard.)
Fernanda runs outside with her hair on fire, calling for Bobby. Her demeanor alarms Bobby and everyone else. She anxiously tells them that Juan is in the vineyard. A bunch of the guys run off to investigate. Cesar begins to join them, but Susan wants him to stay and help with the kids. Adolfo agrees to stay too. Cesar pulls out his phone to call the police.
David really is on it. He is chasing Juan down a grapey lane, his necktie flapping around inconveniently, and he is shouting that Juan has no escape.
Grace asks her mother, "why don't you believe me?" "Because your obsession with David has no limits, Grace. You were capable of trying to silence Juan by killing Perla, how could you?" Grace again refuses to meet her mother's eyes, and says only, "I wasn't going to let him get in the way of my wedding."
"What terror it gives me to imagine that what Juan said could be true," Lilian says. "Think what you want," Grace says with resignation. But Lil says, "no, Grace. I'm not going to live with this. Lisa was the best thing in my life. Tell me, please, I beg you, what did you do to her?" She grabs Grace by the shoulders. "If you don't tell me, you can't leave here."
Grace pulls away and says, "First Lisa robbed me of David, and after that she didn't deserve to be happy with him. Your daughter was a hypocrite. I was the one to like David first and then Lisa showed up and took him away from me just like everything she took from me in my life. The love of David, your affection. That damned daughter of yours didn't deserve anything."
Lilian yells at Grace to shut up. Grace said she had to do all of this because Lisa stole David from her. She deserved it all! Lil says, "unlike you, Lisa was a great woman. She was a good woman!" Grace shoves Lil back, and Lil flops onto the promiscuous sofa. "Always with your comparisons!" Grace shrieks. "You've always preferred Lisa over me! You never loved me as your daughter, only her. You always wished that I was like Lisa, right? WELL LOOK AT ME!! I am WITH her husband, WITH her children, and now, wow, in her house." Graciela looks blissful for a moment and says to herself, "all this you've gotten, Graciela, nobody - listen up - NOBODY helped me! YOU never helped me!" (Didn't Lil get her half a million dollars yesterday?) "That's why I had to get her out of my way, Mummy, with - with my own hands."
And with that, Grace has a look of profound relief.
I feel like singing! |
Lil gets up from the couch and grabs Grace. "What are you saying?"
"Yes, I killed your damned daughter so I could be left with David because HE WAS ALWAYS MINE!"
Lilian is devastated.
Outside, Fernanda (who was told to stick with her brother) tells Bobby that she needs to find out how her aunt is. Bobby is afraid of Juan and doesn't want her to go. (He is probably thinking about those movies where one kid goes into the haunted house alone, and then a while later another kid goes in alone to look for him, and then the third kid goes in alone to look for the first two, and the fourth kid finally goes in and finds the first three hanging from meat hooks.) Fernanda says that Cesar and Soosan will look after him.
Cesar and Soosan are looking at Cesar's phone and gesturing. I hope they called the police and aren't still waiting for David to answer the phone! Bobby approaches them, and they sit down with him.
When we come back to the happy bride's dressing room, Lilian has her hands around Grace's neck. Grace easily shakes her off and says this is all Lil's fault for preferring Lisa. "Now all you have is me!" Grace laughs. Lil slaps her face. "I cannot let you come near that family again, do you understand? I won't have you near the children, ever." Grace says no one will stop her. She doesn't care what she has to do.
Lil swings Grace around by the arm and says, "forget about the kids. Nobody deserves someone like you." "Shut up!"
It is at this moment that Fernanda reaches the doorway. Unlike normal Earth houses, the Robles home muffles sound so efficiently that she has not heard a single word of this screechfest so far.
"I won't allow you to remain with him," Lil says, but Grace interrupts, "nobody will stop me and if I have to kill you, Ma, like I killed your damned daughter, I'll do it!"
Fernanda approaches Grace and asks, "what did you say? You killed my mom?" A familiar reflex kicks in for Grace; she puts on her sweet auntie mask and replies, "you misheard. I would never do anything like that."
But Fer wants an answer. Lil speaks up. "Yes. It was her, my dear." As the knowledge sinks in, Grace watches, either feeling remorse or just looking like she is.
Fernanda is going into one of her patented meltdowns. With her familiar whispery voice and dainty gestures, Grace tries to convince Fernanda that it's not true.
Lil: STOP LYING!
Fer: Why did you do it?
Grace: It was an accident!
Fer: Don't touch me! I don't want you near me, much less my father, ever! You are a manipulator and I am stupid for believing you.
Grace: My child, don't say that, I love you.
Fer: You don't know what love is.
Grace: YES I KNOW! I love you and your brother as if you were my own children.
Fer: You are nowhere near resembling my mom.
Grace: That's not true. I am BETTER than your mom.
Fer: Never! Don't you dare mention my mother. Forget about my father, because I will never let you near him.
Grace looks heartbroken. But Fernanda really is.
Ramon, Tano, and Leon chase David, who chases Juan. Juan's gone into la cava. David asks Ramon to talk to the police. Tano and Leon want to go with David, but he's not willing to risk their safety. "I'll take care of Juan!"
David agrees to let Tano and Leon cover the exits so that Juan will be trapped. However, David says, if Juan comes out before he does, please take good care of the kids.
Fernanda tries to leave the happy bridal dressing room. Grace begs her not to tell David. She insists that everything will be fine after the wedding. Fernanda counters with, "I hate you, Graciela! You used me all this time. I believed in you, I loved you. I told you many times that I didn't want to kill myself, and you made me believe that I did!" (How long has that one been rattling around inside her head?)
Lilian looks even more horrified than before.
Fernanda tells Grace, "you'll marry my dad over my dead body." Grace protests. Lil tells Fer to find her father. "He won't believe you!" Grace says. "You've done much damage," Lil says. "You will pay dearly for this," Fernanda adds on her way out the door.
"I won't let you go on harming my grandchildren because you're crazy," Lil says. "You're rotten to the core." Grace is really starting to fall apart. She won't let Lil steal her happiness the way Lisa did. "I hate you," she shrieks, sounding like a wild animal. She stumbles to the door, calling for Fernanda. This time, Lil lets her go. She looks like she's thinking.
David goes into la cava, no tie, shirt halfway unbuttoned, sleeves rolled up, yelling for Juan. Juan emerges from the shadows. They exchange pleasantries, then Juan points a gun at him. "You are a coward," David taunts. "And you are a traitor," Juan answers. He asks if David thought Juan would end up like his father. "Nothing you do would surprise me," David says, "especially after what you did to Perla."
Juan says Perla was the only thing he had, and the only thing David couldn't take away from him. "Then why did you kill her?" David asks. Juan says he didn't do it. He laughs maniacally - Jokerly - and says, "Graciela did it! And your beloved Lisa didn't fall in the river. Graciela killed her!" He laughs again, and this time he even looks like the Joker.
Grace runs down the hallway to the stairs, now pursued by Lilian. Grace is calling for Fernanda. Lil grabs her by the arm. Grace screams in her face, "LET GO OF ME!!!" "What you want to do is an abomination," Lil explains. "I will not permit it, because you don't deserve the happiness that you stole from your sister." Grace screeches like a peacock. "I don't care if I have to kill you too, mom, because I will do it. Let go of me!"
And Grace twists out of her mother's grasp, and as I watch and rewind and watch again, it looks as if Lilian's arms are extended because Grace pulled away, but it also kind of looks like Lil was pushing her. Maybe it's a little of both, but regardless, the beautiful bride tumbles down the next few steps, somehow successfully negotiates a quarter-turn, then continues the rest of the way downward to land head first, face up, at the very bottom.
Lil hurries down in her bare feet, gasping, "Graciela, Graciela" and whispers in her ear, "don't do this to me."
Fernanda rushes outside (these scenes seem to be out of order), her hair on fire again, screaming hysterically at Bobby that nothing's going to happen to him and everything will be fine. Cesar asks what's going on. She collects herself and says nothing, nothing, Bobby doesn't need to know about any of this! (Ugh, never plan a surprise party with her, because she is TERRIBLE at keeping secrets!) Bobby says he's getting worried. Fer wants her father, and she tells the other wedding guests not to let Grace come near Bobby. She is doing the meltdown thing again and crushing her poor little brother like a grape.
Juan tells David that Grace really did kill Lisa and has been paying for Juan's silence all this time. Juan held off the investigation so that Grace could leave. Then he was able to steal whatever he wanted. David doesn't believe it, but Juan reminds him how quickly Grace left. (Dave looks off to the side, remembering. Good job!) Grace and Lisa fought down by the river, and Juan saw Grace come back from there, and soon afterwards Lisa turned up dead. "Coincidence? You know it's all true, and you were going to marry her! Ahahahaha!!"
David calls Juan a desgraciado and moves towards him. Juan shoots him in the arm. Not bad for a beginner. David yowls. Juan mocks, "how does it feel to be losing everything and you can't do anything to go back to the past? How's it feel? Tell me!" And he punches David in the face, knocking him down, and then punches and punches and punches right into the commercial break.
David is still on the floor, spitting up blood, and Juan is laughing and saying how much he's enjoying this day. He beckons David to get up, then smacks him in the face with his knee. He pulls David up by the hair and sticks his thumb into David's wound. He steps back and raises the gun.
"Graciela was Lisa's killer, but I knew well that you'd go to bed with her. This is the best day of my life! You lost, David. Lisa should have been mine. If she had loved me, she would still be alive and all this could have been mine. You took her from me, David, but it's done. After I kill you, I'll go for your children and I'll go for Luciana and you don't know how much I'll enjoy her death, David."
With this, David morphs... into Batman. He knocks the gun out of Juan's hand and punches him in the face. "Don't touch my kids or Luciana!" Then he starts beating Juan up like a professional.
Grace is still lying head-down at the bottom of the stairs. Lil fusses over her. She gathers Grace into her arms - it's a little awkward, I can hear her shoes banging against the stairs as Lil moves her around - and then she sees a tiny bit of blood in Grace's ear. Grace doesn't respond. Lil realizes that she's dead. "I killed my daughter!" (Lilian, if it's any consolation, 1) she was already dead inside, and 2) she's not officially dead until you put a wooden stake through her heart - if you can find the shriveled thing.)
Lilian is distraught. She holds Graciela and calls her "Grace" and "Chiquita" and "m'iha" and sobs and wails. Because of the house's unique sound-muffling properties, no one outside can hear these terrible sounds echoing around the room. A framed photo of Lisa comes into focus.
David is sitting on top of Juan, punching him again and again and again. The police arrive and pull David and Juan apart. David yells that Juan has to pay for what he did. One of the cops kind of mirandizes him, but gets it out of order ("anything you say will and can be used against you") and forgets to tell him that he has the right to an attorney. But what the hell - he is an attorney. Juan says he's not finished with David yet. (Say, Juan? Esquire? You know you have the right to remain silent? You're doing it wrong.)
Tano and Leon think David should get treatment for his wound, but he's in a hurry to find Graciela.
At this point, aren't we all dying to know what's going on at VSB? No, me neither, but here we are. Luciana wants to talk to Miguel, but he's still mad at her. She's trying to apologize to him for hurting him with what she said. Mig says she said that because she feels it, but she says it was without thinking. She was angry because he was meddling in her life and in her decisions. She didn't realize that he was doing it to protect her, and she's sorry.
Miguel is offended that after knowing him all her life she'd think that he would do anything to hurt her. "I'm not like David." (Does he seriously think that's going to score him any points with her?) Everything he does in his life is to take care of her and protect her. (Poor Erika's ghost is saying, "EXCUSE ME?") He didn't let David in because he knew David would hurt her. "Am I wrong?"
Luci can't deny it. She says that she went to see David, and it got even worse. She realized that if David was going to marry Grace it was because he really is in love with her. It's not for his kids. "I was a fool, Miguel. Forgive me."
David comes back to the house, bellowing for Graciela. Everyone wants to know what's going on. He tells them he fought with Juan. Bobby and Fernanda are scared. David tells Bobby not to worry and everything will be okay, but the sight of him covered in blood doesn't reassure Bobby at all.
Fernanda tells David that Grace is in her room, but Fer wants to tell David something first. He doesn't have time to hear it. Fer will go with David. Bobby wants to come along to. David tells him to stay where he is.
Miguel wants to know what it will take to make Luciana happy. She says he doesn't need to do a thing. Luci feels that she is the one who has to do something. "What does that mean?" Mig asks. "That I'm determined to give myself the chance to be happy." Mig says, how, since you've realized that David is going on with his life without you? Mig wants to help her forget all the bad stuff David did to her. He just needs her to let him be by her side, near her and to decide to let herself love.
Luci says she needs time. She knows she'd never suffer with him, but she wants to be that woman for him, he doesn't deserve any less. He's sure it'll all work out once the pain passes. Luci says he's a great guy, and hopefully someday she'll be able to return his love!
Mig knows that day will arrive. She will feel so loved that she won't have any fear of giving him her heart.
In summary:
Luci says "hopefully someday." Miguel hears, "get the nursery ready posthaste."
Miguel says "we're gonna be soooo happy" and Luci hears "I'll never smother, pressure, or steamroll you."
They seal it with a hug.
As Fernanda and David cross the living room, Fer hurriedly tells her father that Grace killed Lisa and he can't marry her. He is in the middle of telling her that he knows, when they spot Lilian cradling Grace in her arms. She is too shocked to notice David's gory appearance (Fernanda is also smeared with blood at this point). "I couldn't let her marry you, David," she says. "Grace did much damage. She killed Lisa, and I had to kill her." Fernanda wails.
Outside, Booby is telling the grownups that he's scared. His father was covered with blood. (I bet they were hoping he wouldn't notice.) Susan and Cesar try to soothe him.
Fernanda points out that her aunt is dead. "I killed her," Lil adds. David asks Fernanda to leave, but Lil says, "forgive us for the harm we've done to you." She admits that she helped Grace marry him so that they could stay at the house. She didn't know what Grace had done to Lisa. Lil loved Lisa just as she loved Fernanda - but Fer doesn't believe it. David tells Fer to go to her brother.
"So it's true?" David asks Lilian. She confirms it. "Forgive me," she repeats.
Fernanda comes outside. Bobby wants an update. She tells him that Dad isn't getting married, and shouldn't have gotten involved with Grace. She's bad and she's done them a lot of harm. She told them some bald-faced lies. Nothing she told them was true, and she never loved them. "You have to be strong. I promise I'll never leave you and I'm your sister and we can get through this."
Bobby wants to know where his aunt is. Fernanda answers, "she won't be able to hurt us any more." Susan takes this cue to walk Bobby over to a chair. Fer confides to Cesar that Grace is dead and Grandma killed her. Cesar has Fer see after her brother, and he asks Sonia to send the guests home. Cesar says he'll call the police and then he'll call David. (Ah, good. He did it in the right order this time. Though I'll bet everyone there has a phone and they could have split up the work, I guess it's a bad idea if multiple people are talking about this where Bobby can hear.)
Uh-oh, Fernanda is going back into meltdown mode!
Lilian tells David she didn't know what Graciela had done, and she never should have supported her. "But you helped her manipulate me and my children," he accuses. "What kind of woman are you?" "The only thing I wanted was to belong. I wanted a family."
David says, "that's not true. You are just like Graciela. I don't understand how someone as good as Lisa could have been your daughter." Lil says that Lisa was the only good thing she had, and she lost her because of Grace. That's why I tried to correct the mistakes that I made." David says she can't remedy pain by causing more pain. "You just killed your own daughter."
"I only wanted to protect Fernanda, that's all I wanted," Lil says. (And Bobby can go hang.) "Yous are all I have left of Lisa." (She didn't say "yous," but I hate that we don't have a separate word for plural you.)
"You will never, ever see my children," David tells Lil. She nods. "Forgive me," she says again.
Back at Viñedo Santa Barbara, Luci and Miguel enter the MPR just as Marta gets off the phone. She has to go to Bodega de Los Angeles to be with the kids. She's not sure exactly what's going on, except that the... (she hesitates, as if searching for a euphemism, then gives up) ... the wedding was canceled.
"David didn't get married?" Luci asks. Marta tilts her head ever so slightly as she looks at Miguel, who looks very unhappy. Marta says there's been a tragedy. David is okay, but Graciela is dead. (Luci very politely refrains from jumping up and down.) That's all Marta knows. She's gotta go. Luci wants to go with her. Miguel doesn't like this idea! (I bet!) Luci says, "but David might need me!" Mig says that if David needs her, he'll find her. Marta tells her to stay here and she'll let them know when she finds out.
"Grace was like this because of me, but I was able to stop her before she could do any more harm," Lilian tells David. "I don't think she could," David says. "She had already robbed me of what I loved most in my life."
The police arrive. Lil tells them she killed her daughter. David tells them to take her away. She begs him for mercy. (I don't think the police can give her a pass for murder on David's say-so.) David says she didn't deserve to have been Lisa's mother, and he's not going to let her near them again. She begs the police not to take Grace away from her while she's still warm. And another "forgive me."
David says they lied to his face and were traitors. Lil says it wasn't her, it was all Grace. She manipulated all of them. "Yes, she was very good at that," David says. "Know why? Because she learned it from you. You will rot in prison where you deserve to be, far from us. You(s) destroyed my life and the lives of my children. Also the lives of Marta and Luciana. Because of you, they deported Marcos and broke up a family. I can't believe I trusted you and let my children be around you and Graciela when you were killers. Take her away!"
The police take Grace from Lil's arms and gently put her on the floor. Lil leans over to kiss her goodbye. She tells David she did it to protect her faaaamily. The police take her away.
Miguel asks Luci to sit down. They have a mutually dumb discussion as to whether she should go to David. He knows this has given her hope. She insists she's just worried about David. He tells her that if she wants to see David then do it, but don't forget how he's hurt her. And then he says she has to forget what David did to her and give herself the chance to be happy.
David stands aside from Grace's corpse and tells her she killed Lisa, her own sister. "What sadness it gives me, having been so wrong, having trusted in you, wasted so much time by your side. I lost the chance to fall in love and be happy, because of you. I can't believe I let you manipulate me this way, all this time you were abusing my children and me. I knew I would never be happy at your side, because I never loved you. My love, my heart belongs to Luciana."
Cesar bandages David up. (WHY is David still wearing that shirt? It's nasty. David should take off his shirt, dammit. I signed up to see a shirtless Gabriel Soto. This is totally wrong.) Cesar wants to take him to the hospital. David agrees, but first he wants to talk to Fernanda, who has been watching numbly from a couch. Cesar excuses himself.
Fernanda doesn't want Bobby to ever know about this. David is sorry Fer had to go through this. He would have given anything for her to have avoided this. But Fernanda says none of this was his fault. He was always good. She feels that it was her own fault that he got so close to Grace. She supported Grace in every way to get him closer to Grace and get rid of Luciana. Grace told them that Luci would steal his love and attention from them, and she believed all of it. She was a fool and she's sorry. She never believed that Luciana was bad, but Grace convinced her of it and made her feel wrong for being with Luci.
"That can't be," David says in disbelief. "Why didn't you tell me before?" Fernanda says she thought her aunt was telling the truth and that she loved Fer. And she swears that when she felt bad about seeing him with Luciana and she took those pills, she was just trying to feel better. She wasn't trying to take her own life. She would never do something like that.
David tells Fer to try not to blame herself. Fer says it was Grace and that doctor who wanted to convince her that she wasn't okay. Grace used her to get close to David, and Fernanda allowed it. She begs David's forgiveness.
Miguel and Luci are still "talking." Miguel is asking Luci to let David come for her, rather than go running off to him. Luci says she just wants to go to him to help him, just like she did for Miguel when Erika died.
That takes all of the wind out of Mig's sails. He relents. She promises that she'll always be there for him.
David tries to make Fernanda feel less guilty. He reminds her that Grace manipulated not only Fernanda, but everyone. Fernanda just wanted them to be a nice family. David says, "we are a nice family," and she shouldn't be sorry for honestly loving someone, nor for being a good person. "Fernanda, you have the heart of your mother."
Wait, we're stopping there? But we're not even halfway through the Mexican version!

It is really gratifying to finally get to see KDR go all-out, but a talent like this should not have been kept under wraps for so many months.
Wow what a performance from KDR (standing ovation). Unbelievable, how she went from hatred ->madness->pity me->luuuving->defensive and on and on and on...mostly with facial expressions!
how about "The Many Faces of Grace"?
...but I'd still vote for "A Fall from Grace"
More Laters...like tomorrow laters :-)

There were many twists and turns for me tonight. And to be honest, I was lost during some crucial dialog and did not understand at all what was behind what happened to Lili. So your summary of what was said will be incredibly helpful.
The acting was stellar - especially from Kim and Azela. And I have to say, Sophia Castro was amazing.
I will wait to read the recap tomorrow before I comment more.
Can't wait Julie.

Nina, as one of my friends used to say, you can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him go to the bathroom. I guess that's true of pigs as well.
I noticed that David was punching Juan with his right hand. Didn't someone notice him doing something with his left hand lately? Maybe he's ambidextrous.
I'm almost at the halfway point. When I get to the next commercial, I'll post what I have so far and work on the second half which should be quicker. No pictures tonight; maybe this weekend.
Lillian will need a shrink after all this.
More tomorrow. I had such a hard time getting home last night I felt like The Flying Dutchman.
Anyway, part 1 is up. It's the first 40 minutes, including commercials. Er, I don't mean I recapped the commercials. You're welcome.
As for Sofia Castro, part of me wants to say that she was way overdoing it and the director should have asked her to dial it down. (I realize that other forces may have been in play here.) At times, she seemed more hysterical than Grace. On the other hand, I was impressed with just how much she committed herself to the performance. She obviously wasn't holding back, but it didn't seem forced, either. She could become a meltdown specialist.
KDR and AR were fabulous too. And I loved the resolution: Grace falls/gets pushed down the stairs, Lil takes the credit/responsibility, and now she will get the retirement she never dreamed of.
The only thing that annoyed me about Grace's end was that it was so clean. Except for the little trickle of blood in her ear that was barely visible, she was allowed to remain the pretty little porcelain doll. Blech. I wanted more blood for her and less for David.
As for Luci and Miguel... I see no hope for Miguel whatsoever. He is delusional. I don't want his delusions to be rewarded.
But I don't want David's weak character to be rewarded, either. I am hoping against hope that Luci will go to David, tell him she's there for him, offer to help him around the office, give him a Popsicle, and then go home. And if he asks her for anything else, I want her to say "er, no. I love you, but you're obviously not good for me, so have a nice night."
Julie, thanks so much for doing this. Finales can be a bitch to recap, and I really appreciate the job that you, and all of the recappers, have done on this novela, one in which I can't think of another that so utterly wasted so much potential and talent that it had going for it. This patio has been a delightful one to lurk on- this is probably one of the most fun, and diverse, groups of people to have ever gathered to party on a patio together, and you recappers have done a terrific job- ANY patio is lucky to have dy77, Anita, and Urban in it, Julie, you have been just terrific, and Cynthia, you have taken to recapping like a fish takes to water! Especially what with doing two nights in a row of this crud! You all have done an amazing job in attempting to make a silk purse out of this sow's ear, and I really thank you all for your efforts. I REALLY hope that you'll all help make up the patio for 'La Candidata' (which will be a good one), and hopefully on that of LDVDEC as well (which is also MILES ahead of what you guys have had to work with here, and that I just wrote about in the comments section of the introduction to that show that Urban was kind enough to post a day or two ago). I can GUARANTEE you all that both your viewing hours, AND your recapping hours, will be much more richly rewarded and well-spent than, for the most part, they were here. But I thank everybody for their contributions. :-)
Now then... Yay! I can finally (sorta) comment on this.
First, ain't K2R just the shit???? She absolutely made this novela. She and Azela Robinson owned this episode (Azela wins her award in the next episode. The woman has chops). But I love how K2R can go full-on batshit crazy with no holds barred when she wants to... Interestingly, just like the woman playing her mother, actually! For kicks, check out this truly awesome scene of AR going postal from one of her earlier novelas: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=l_tTrYElUvE
Good times!! But, really... isn't David just the absolute worst, though??? Christ, between him and Martha, I wish Juan's pesticide's had worked!
Before the finale, 'Graciela' is getting ready for her wedding, and 'Juan' comes up behind her and drowns her in the tub. He is then arrested. It is also revealed that 'Luciana's real father was actually 'Fernando', making her 'Graciela' and 'Lisa' all half-sisters. With 'Graciela's death, then, 'Luciana' is the ONLY surviving child of 'Fernando', whose will states that his estate is to be divided equally among "his children", so now, 'Luciana' gets it all. 'Lilian' goes ballistic at realizing that she's now cut out of everything and, kidnaps 'Luciana' at gunpoint, along with loyal 'Sonia', who is 'Lilian's most faithful servant. Just as 'Lilian' is about to shoot 'Luciana', 'Sonia' intervenes and intercepts the bullet intended for 'Luciana' and thus is shot dead by 'Lilian', who can't believe who she just killed. By the time 'Lilian' recovers herself to try and finish off 'Luciana' for real, everybody has caught up to her, and she is arrested for 'Sonia's murder.
Can you imagine the hue and cry if they had killed off Veronica Jaspeado's marvelous creation here?????
Anyways, I just wanted to share that all with you. What do you all think of the original ending as opposed to what Jose Alberto Castro has given us here? Look forward to reading all of your thoughts and comments, as ever... and I hope everybody has a terrific weekend! :-)
I truly hate David.
I wish horrible things for him.
That is all.
"flops onto the promiscuous sofa"
"You(s)" haha, My parents immigrated from French Indochina in the 50's settling in the American Southeast and where I grew up. My father spoke fluent English and French but my mother struggled and referred to a group as you(s) and my brother and I another made up southern word ya'll.
Dr. Sloth, calling Dr. Sloth. I trust Cesar is not an ER doctor.
I said earlier in the show that Miguel has all the characteristics of an abuser in waiting. Possessive isolation, jealous rages, begs, cries for pity and if all else fails a face pounding. Should Luciana sleep with him first time she resisted he'd dot an eye.
I'm speechless. Kimberly is incredible. Cannot wait to see her again.
I was yelling for Juan to shoot David again. I know shame on me.
Everything is Fernanda's fault, it was done in her world.
So now Fer will not let her marry her Dad? Maybe she should ask the cops how they feel about letting a serial murderer finish her wedding first. Down the stairs, heh? Copout Bastards.
Then Lillian takes all the credit for killing her. Lying Witch !
Toe sucking, begging, pleading, groveling Miguel. Go suck a banana.
Now you are in full assault mode that you heard Garciela is dead and David single again.
I changed the channel every time Migg the Beggar came on. I hate him.
Woo Hoo NumbNuts now you see the light? Well Buddy it takes two to tango. She may have fooled you, but you were a willing victim. Like people who join a cult then want to be victims when they come to their senses. They made the decision to get in. Believe me.I lived it every day until I was sixteen.
Sure a shitload of screeching, not nearly enough hair pulling, scratching and clawing.
Julie that is what I was thinking, they should be able to hear them (Down the Hall) at the Competent Vineyard. The Hyena and the Tasmanian Devil were making a LOT of noise. Granted, it is a big house, but still, smaller than Kansas!
A familiar reflex kicks in for Grace; she puts on her sweet auntie mask
Grace screeches like a peacock.
She is doing the meltdown thing again and crushing her poor little brother like a grape.
Outside, Booby is telling the grownups that he's scared. His father was covered with blood. (I bet they were hoping he wouldn't notice.)
"I only wanted to protect Fernanda, that's all I wanted," Lil says. (And Bobby can go hang.)
And your comment:
Lil takes the credit/responsibility, and now she will get the retirement she never dreamed of.
Brilliant job and looking forward to the screen shots.
Personally I think Lillian performed a public service but her feelings of guilt made her confess as she did. She could easily have gotten away with saying this was an accident, but she confessed to murder instead.
Azela Robinson captured perfectly the emotional conflict that Lillian would have had over this ugly nightmare of a situation. While I think the writers didn't give her much help in developing this character she took the straw and spun it into gold. Lillian was not a straight-up abuser like Josefa of YNCELH but a more subtly toxic mother whose crime was showing favoritism in a world where there is truly no excuse for doing so. Lisa and DisGrace were born long after kiddie shrinks and parenting experts wrote books and articles on how bad this is and Lillian never sought help for this. She is a narcissist who ended up with a daughter whose narcissism was even worse, maybe exponentially so.
Kimberly Dos Ramos gave us a great example of extreme narcissism with possible Borderline Personality Disorder. DisGrace took the most hateful way out of her situation when she could have had a successful career and any number of wealthy men going after her whose day to day lives would have been far more interesting than David's. KDR does need to tone her screeching down a little to be more easily understandable.
Karmageddon ratings to come after the final hour of this tale.
Grace looks heartbroken. But Fernanda really is.
One of the cops kind of mirandizes him…and forgets to tell him that he has the right to an attorney. But what the hell - he is an attorney.
At this point, aren't we all dying to know what's going on at VSB? No, me neither, but here we are.
I surfed away during Miguel-Luciana. Had it up to here with Mig trying to guilt/pity her into being his. At this point, Mig doesn’t even deserve Carito.
Likes:
Lil-Grace-Fer confrontations. Great job by all three. Satisfying to see Fer’s eyes finally open about Grace. No pity for Lil. She was always a moocher & a taker, never a giver. Lisa was so tired of her selfish self and this is the daughter that was supposedly her favorite. She latched onto Lisa only because she married well.
Juan giving David what-for, especially saying “If Lisa was with me, she’d still be alive.” Apparently Juan was resigned to being captured though, to run into a place with only one exit.
Profound dislike:
David never got to confront a live Grace once he knew all. The writers cheated GS out of a chance at a powerful scene.
Stevey, thanks for the info on the original. So glad Vino didn't mess with Sonia.
That said: damn, I thought I had a mad on for the writers...but more on that later. Back to this episode...
"At this point, aren't we all dying to know what's going on at VSB? No, me neither, but here we are."
"With this, David morphs... into Batman."
Between that and the ongoing acoustic magic of the main house...you are all of us, Julie. This was a most excellent recap.
As much as it got the big things generally right, and it did, this ep still managed to trip over itself in places. (Jumping to Vinedo de Competencia was somewhat necessary, I admit, but doing it when it did the first time was stupid; what were either editing or shooting gaffes, IMHO, when David hulked up on Juan and Graciela got "shoved" down the stairs. And I'm torn on Graciela's unspectacularly abrupt demise; on the one hand, David thus only got to go off on her mother and her corpse and Graciela herself didn't really have time to suffer at all for her sins. On the other hand, Gabriel Soto finally got a serious acting moment or three, let alone busting out an absolutely epic WTF face--enhanced by that partial blood mask--to actually rival Azela Robinson's when David got there.)
Seriously, though: Azela and Kimberly Dos Ramos drove this episode like they forking stole it. And it was indeed glorious. (I reiterate my previous comment that Kimberly has earned a novela do-over from Televisa for her work here. Anybody got Carlos Moreno or the ECDLP folks on speed-dial?) What bugs me more in retrospect is that it might be good and bad in that, ultimately, the episode was largely about Graciela and her sins coming out...but then David, our theoretical central co-protagonist, coming to terms with it was a distant second modified by, and I can't get this thought out of my head, his partial beatdown at Juan's hands acting as a sort of accelerated karma re-balancing. It felt oddly manipulative: "This is the result of all his bad choices, folks, however influenced they were, and since it's the end of the show and we kinda need our secondary ('Main galan, sir!')...er, our main galan to be one, we're giving him this."
Miguel continuing to try to save Luciana from herself felt less manipulative and more obligatory, especially when Luci decided to give him one more chance...right before Marta blabbed about David's wedding implosion. (Ah, Miguel's suppressed "...well, fork!" face.)
As for Fernanda's nonstop freakout over everything: I'm also undecided on whether Sofia Castro should have toned it down, since KDR and AR were already just over the top and then she pole-vaulted that, but I suppose it's consistency in the end. And Fer was the last one to spill her tea to David while right on the edge of another nervous breakdown, thus completing her karma recycling. So...halfsies?
Tofie - "dot an eye" = that's a new one on me!
I do say y'all a lot, but somehow I feel pretentious putting it in writing. "Yous" doesn't sound pretentious at all to me, but I don't like it. I even have a coworker who says "yiz." That one makes me cringe.
I don't blame Fernanda for this, at least no more than I blame David. Okay, I guess I blame them both for being too self-absorbed to see all the red flags. But mostly I blame Graciela.
I was amused by David suddenly snapping into Batman mode. Where has this guy been?
I felt that this finale (so far) was written specifically to showcase the talents of KDR and AR, and it certainly gave a lot of screentime to Sofia Castro, but the rest of the actors (even GS) were left with crumbs. That is why, as Niecie points out, David never got a chance to confront Graciela. Which sucked.
At least Juan is still alive, so maybe he will still have a chance to show off some more.
Bill: "Glorious" is the perfect word for KDR and AR's performances. And yes, David's beating at Juan's hands seemed kind of lazy, like, this is going to make up for David being an oblivious douchebag for 140 episodes.
Now, "Sideways." All I remember about that movie is a) wine country and b) hating both of those guys. I don't remember how it ended, but I know I would have been happy if they'd both been crushed by the Monty Python foot. That movie was a big, award-winning deal at the time, but already it's practically forgotten.
talk about working in a second language, how about Irina Baeva. According to Wikipedia she moved to Mexico in 2012, she had to work in another alphabet as well as language. was her accent noticeable? she seems to speak precisely and carefully but I have no idea.
at one point in the bedroom Grace darts at Juan or Lil like a snake, almost head butting them, amazing performance.
thanks again
A pared down list of favorites were "windmilling arms and squeaking protests", "I'm sure she will be an adequate bodyguard to protect him", "Fernanda runs outside with her hair on fire" and "promiscuous sofa".
"I signed up to see a shirtless Gabriel Soto. This is totally wrong" was great. Ummm, me too! You captured all the serious events perfectly but the humor you infused added so much.
I cannot say enough how much your conversation translations helped.
Am I the only one who didn't realize Lili purposely pushed Graciela down the stairs?? I didn't see "the push" and thought she had tripped. I was flummoxed when the police took Lili away as I didn't understand any of her and David's conversation.
"Lisa was the best thing in my life She killed Lisa, and I had to kill her" sent shivers down my spine. Not being a mother, I can't conceive of not loving your children equally. But even if that were the case, wouldn't you keep it to yourself and make every attempt to never let that show?
"After I kill you, I'll go for your children and I'll go for Luciana and you don't know how much I'll enjoy her death, David." As horrible as Graciela was, Juan is clearly on her level. Low level.
I have to say that I'm still trying to process everything. Am I a bad person because I have pity for Lili? I had been thinking redemption for her, not rotting away in jail.
The acting was superior. Kim and Azela were top notch. Sophia brought it - I believed every tear and every bit of hysteria. She had been betrayed and manipulated and wounded to the core. And I have to say Gabe was very good as well. Finally able (willing?) to express emotion, palpably livid but anger kept in check.
"David never got to confront a live Grace once he knew all. The writers cheated GS out of a chance at a powerful scene" sums up exactly how I feel Niecie. What a fiery confrontation that might have been! And as you noted Julie, Graciela died in the same pristine condition in which she'd always lived. Snow white to the end.
Stevey, I am relieved Sonia was not killed in this version. Let's just say there would have been outrage and sadness on the patio had that occurred!
tofie and Kirby: Miguel. Not. Going. There. Ack.
Julie, thank you for staying up half the night creating this sweet summary.
Diana
Performances by KDR, Adela and Sofia were at their best. There were times that I couldn’t understand Un-Grace(d) because of the screeching, but still a stellar performance!
How ultimately poetic that Lillian killed UnGraced. At first I thought it was accidental pushing, but when she admitted to killing her—that was a shocker. Lillian showed some mania (and yes, Urban, AR captured the emotional conflict perfectly)—calling UnGraced a monster, an assassin, yet holding her so lovingly and calling her “my baby”. Even though she was admitting to all the wrongdoing, she seemed to still be trying to manipulate the situation by saying that she was just trying to “pertain” and was protecting FerBrat and Boobee. Maybe it was partially true in the end, but all along she has clearly disliked having to be with the kids.
I was surprised how FerBrat maintained her sanity (most of the time). I also liked the way she was trying to protect Boobie. She showed how much she loved him and wanted to spare him from all the horrific events. And her light bulb finally turned on (quite brightly I should say, but a little too late) and she admitted to that.
“With this, David morphs... into Batman. He knocks the gun out of Juan's hand and punches him in the face. "Don't touch my kids or Luciana!" Then he starts beating Juan up like a professional.” Love that, Julie, you nailed it! It seemed to me his reaction was delayed somewhat until NoJuan mentioned Luci's name. And, yes, tofie, I too wanted him to get shot again! BTW, did anyone notice how bloodied his face was, and yet, when he “cleaned up” not a scratch was visible?
I couldn’t believe Luci actually gave Mi(e)ga-leech hopes when they were talking in the vineyard….uuughh! And later, Miga-leech was overbearing as always. While many of the things he was saying to Luci (when he was trying to stop her from going to Dud-vid) made much sense, one will always doubt his true intentions because of his past obsessiveness. And Luci, of course, also had good excuses for wanting to run to Dud-vid, but we all know the true reason—she luuuvvvess him soooo much.
Looking forward to the alternate endings..I'm sure they will all have Luci moving on--without Miga-leech or Dud-vid.
Enjoy ur week-end!!
RC
I agree with all the favorite Julie Lines.
Just a few random, stream of consciousness thoughts as I watched last night's episode unfold. Gracie almost achieved her ultimate goal, her raison d'etre. She was able to bed Dave but not wed him. So close. It is ironic that Gracie died wearing that gorgeous pure, virginal white bridal after living such a duplicitous, evil life. And now we know why Lilian was wearing a rather plain ,black, mother of the bride gown.
I was disappointed that both Lilian and Fern got to confront Grace and see her mask fall in person, but Dave never got to have a face to face encounter with his wife's killer while she was alive. That should have happened.
Was it wrong of me to get the giggles while Dave was chasing Juan through the fields in his wedding attire? I got a big kick out of the running in dress slacks .
Also, yikes, Dave gets shot in that big upper arm muscle ..ow ..and then drop kicked . Dave is all bloody and beaten, but Grace has such a quick, clean death on the staircase except for the neat hairdo gone awry due getting shaken and stirred by both Juan and Lilian. They both had turns throwing her around like a pretty ragdoll. I think that sturdy Lilian whalloped her twice across the face . Gracie was knocked down a couple times, but like an evil Energized bunny, she just picked herself up, grabbed the hem of her given , and made her way to the door. Grace was not going to be late for her wedding!
"Personally I think Lillian performed a public service but her feelings of guilt made her confess as she did. She could easily have gotten away with saying this was an accident, but she confessed to murder instead" really made me reflect.
Just looking at her face that blanched in horror at Lisa's confession left no doubt (to me anyway) that Lili was horrified that Gracie murdered Perla, let alone Lisa. She realized how terrible her daughter was and made the decision she wouldn't let her hurt others. What an inner conflict must have raged in her mind. Murder was something I don't think Lili ever condoned, and yet it was the act she committed to her own daughter.
Disturbing on so many levels.
Urban, can't wait to read your finale summary.
Diana
Is it "fair" that Graciela met death in a rather painless way without having to witness and deal with the aftermath of the devastation she wrought? Even in death, she seems to have remained unscathed.
Diana
I thought the episode was a complete sell out waste of my time. Kill her down the stairs before the people who she wronged had a chance to line up and stone her? Did these people not ever read the Bible? (just kidding)
Where was FerBrat's livid rage.? I was expecting her to want to carve the carcass up with a chain saw.
O well. Fun Patio in spite of the wretched show we somehow hoodwinked ourselves into watching.
kirbo
Did you guys see all the red marks on Graciela's arms from being yanked around by Liliana and Juan. Bet Kimberly was bruised next day.
Good afternoon and pardon me for crashing the Patio! I've just seen Grace fall down the Stairs of Doom and her head flop over. I've seen Furbrain freakout and now Dud has been shot in the arm and Juan is literally kicking his ass! Did the writers know how contemptible DOH-vid had become? Is that why they're letting "the villain" kick "the galan" in the nuts! Oh, thank you show!
Got some stuff to do today so hope to use the recap and comments as a reward. I'm loving it so far!
Muchisimas gracias, Julie for all your spirited, thorough and fun recaps on this piece. I know I'm going to enjoy this as well!
Back to the show!
Rena, I can tell you that Irina's accent when speaking English was exquisite. She did have an accent, but it was slight and very clear. I couldn't tell about her accent in Spanish, but again it was very clear.
Diana, I am still unsure whether Lil actually shoved Grace, or if Grace fell when she pulled away from her. I think it was deliberately ambiguous. (I remember a similar push/fall in Destilando Amor.) Either way, Lil wanted it to be on her.
It's probably natural for a parent to feel more rapport with one child than another, or to appreciate that one child is "easier" than another. I'm sure most parents strive to hide any bias if they're aware of it, but I wouldn't be surprised if some parents were unaware of it to begin with. Comparing two children, or your feelings for them, might be like comparing apples and oranges because each child is so different. I am certainly guilty of this with my nieces and nephews. I mean, certainly you can be equitable about things like gifts and allowances, but there are more subtle things when you know or believe that one kid is much smarter or more popular or more sensitive.
I don't know if I have pity for Lil. I feel like she just didn't know what to do with herself, like both her daughters are dead so there's no reason to go on with her life. This character has always been a tough balancing act, trying to show that she has some morals (not wanting to murder people, not wanting the doctor to brainwash Fernanda) but at the same time being a horrible, cold-hearted, manipulating, racist, classist, abusive harpy. (This is why I tend to think that she DIDN'T push Grace.)
But, apparently she drew the line somewhere. Good to know. I'm glad she's behind bars. That's her redemption. It's exactly where she should be, even if David never finds out that she was taking a cut from Juan's embezzling. Though I also would have been okay with her having a drunken accident.
Though it's disappointing David didn't get to confront Grace, how would that scene have gone? Would he have gone straight for her throat? Would he have talked her to death? I couldn't take much more of her screaming; I was afraid all the glass in my house would break.
RC, yes, "Luciana" was the magic word that morphed David into Batman. No one was very surprised. The blood on David's face may have been spray/splash from when he was punching Juan (who really should have been dead by the time the cops showed up).
Tofie, I did notice the red marks on Graciela's arm (and on Lilian's). They were both flushed, too. That was intense.
Susanlynn, I don't know how well Adolfo knows Fernanda, and it might have been weird for him to go to her. He looked a little scared, himself. But he could have done something random thing for her, as people sometimes do, like offering her his jacket or a glass of water. (Hysterical people are not necessarily thirsty, but it helps them to have something to focus on.)
DUMB ASS IS NOT BLAMELESS!!
AND another thing, if we are to see true repentance from Lillian who was begging an unforgiving David last night, it would go a long fricking way to tell him it was her idea to round up a disbarred Psych and pass him off as for real and pay him to misdiaqgnoese and misprescribe drugs to FerBrat.
Another thing: On Thursday night, Adolfo offered to give Lilian back the deed to her (Grace's) San Diego place. Lil insisted that he keep it. Apparently, she really didn't want him to get ripped off. (And/or she never wanted to go back to San Diego again and she wanted Grace to lose the place.)
I am not in the medical field and cannot stand the sight of blood, but Dave should have applied pressure to that gunshot wound , I think.
Julie..thanks for the information about Lilian telling Adolfo to keep the deed to that infamous apartment in San Diego. She evidently found a scruple. ....a little late, but she did seem to have that one scruple.
Well, here I am again. Sucked back into the patio vortex when I have tests to correct and chores to do. Now, I am going.. Yes, I am leaving now.
Julie..I always live your recaps, but I had to tell you that I think that this recap is your best ever! Excellent!
You are right about the not wiping off the blood. It's as if the makeup people told the actors, "hey, it took a lot of time and effort to get this blood spatter just right, so don't be wiping it off!," When Juan had Miguel all bloody many episodes ago , Hubba wandered into the room , stared at the screen for a moment, and then asked me ,"Why doesn't that guy wipe the blood off his face? " I agreed that Miguel should have taken off his tightywhity tee and wiped off the blood.
You have to marvel at Grace's sheer tenacity (craziness??) because she seemed to think that despite all her evil deeds being revealed by Juan and all the wrestling in that happy bridal chamber , the wedding was still going to happen if she could just get Lilian off her and get down those damn stairs!! Talk about determination . Grace was a lot scrappier than I ever imagined. She was all like, "LET'S DO THIS!!!"
Okay, now I HAVE TO get ready to go out to dinner with friends. She is a Spanish teacher and finds it very funny that I cannot speak Spanish but watch telenovelas .
Can I say I enjoyed watching the denouement of our main characters, but not the conclusion? (I had to check the spelling of denouement in my printed dictionary and realize now I would have had more fun reading the dictionary.)
1. I think Fernanda did her 180 turn too fast. She's not the brightest light in a string of Christmas tree lights, yet she was instantly able to recall all the ways Gracie manipulated her. She should have just reacted like someone getting horrible news, yes, but lashing out at Grace and refusing to believe her "sideways" story. The thinking part should have come later. I think the writers were in a hurry, but it would have made more sense than a re#ing of the Miggy-Luci conversations.
2. GS was wearing too much blood on his whiskers.
3. AZ and KDR's performances were stellar. But I'm still unhappy that Lilian was tagged as the villana but not Gracie. AND AZ getting the Premio. Did we all miss something here that the Mexican audiences saw? Maybe villains and American snobs go hand in hand? I'll be heading right to Stevey's premio analyses after this.
4. The Patio kept this show together, otherwise, it would have been consigned to the recycle bin. A big thank you to all those who endured and made it possible to come back day after day to see what was new and interesting. And speaking of recycling--NOW I understand why they made Marta's "secret" loom so large in this story. We talked about this ad infinitum. The writers had this secret from the original and didn't incorporate it and were left with an "alternative truth" to demonstrate Lil's and Marta's hatred of each other.
If Luci HAD been Fernando's daughter, THAT would have ranked as a terrible secret and a scandal waiting to come out. As it was, it was "merely" adultery, and excusing herself because she was a young mother, felt ignored by her hard working husband and thought she was in love was not sufficient for it to be raised to the level of "terrible secret and potential scandal." It merely left Fernando looking like the dawg he was. The writers could have given us that little crumb from the original.
5. I hadn't thought about it as I watched, but now I agree that DullVid should have been able to look Grace in the eye before she succumbed to the fall. We have Brian's deathgrip confession in Marta's arms and Erika's muerte in Miggy's arms as a guide that the dying can hear and talk.
6. Those red marks on Grace's arms. I noticed on a couple of occasions in the last two episodes when her chest and arms were bare that she had gotten sunburned. I could see pale strap marks when she put on her wedding dress. Only small detail, but I'm sure with her porcelain skin, grabbing her and throwing her around the way Juan and Lil did would have left marks.
7. I'm sure we're in for another time jump to sort out all the pairs that must end up together. I hate time jumps, even good ones (AV, Alborada, CME). I liked Amor Real--we just see Manuel being brought in prone on the cart, barely alive. The rest is left to our imaginations.
8. I was WRONG about what I thought Lil would do when she saw the video and realized Grace had shot Perla to death. I guess I was still waiting for her to do something really vile to earn her title as villainess. I was sure she was going to grab the phone and destroy it, re-arrange Gracie's messed up hair and told DG to get herself together because she was going to marry Dud to preserve her "retirement" income. How DG would die and I knew she would have to, or Luci and David would always have an anvil with her name on it hanging over their heads, didn't matter. I think I would have enjoyed seeing her go through the ceremony and David finding out after, in public, from Juan about Gracie's criminal acts and manipulations. Then he would see how dangerous she was and how much harm she'd caused the Faaaaamily.
9. So grateful to all the recappers for keeping this tn alive and sparkling with humor and pathos and above all SNARK. How I love to be able to use that word. Most novelas we watch have one or two characters that deserve derision by our crafty wordsmiths, but in this case it was all of them PLUS the story. For all that was good in this, it still sinks to near the bottom of my list of tns I would EVER watch again (except for the last two episodes and probably an explosive FIN).
GRACIAS A TODOS, Y'ALL. If you are heading for La Candidata, I'll see you there.
Your thinking Lili might have tried to keep Luci's secret and hustle her to the wedding was another possible scenario. I think Lili capable of many vile acts but I don't think she would have shielded Graciela from being revealed as a murderer. The fact it was Lisa (her obvious more adored daughter) as well as Perla sealed her resolve to have the truth revealed.
Julie, I hadn't realized Lili told Adolfo to keep the deed. Thank you.
Susanlynn, Double Life is scheduled on Univision. But, I'm not sure if anyone other than Princess has volunteered to recap. If not, I will watch LC.
Diana
I remain unrepentant for my glee when Juan was kicking the bejeebers outta Dud's dumb ass! That was SU-WEET! Big, flamin' dummy! I'm also inclined to think that this is true:
Graciela was Lisa's killer, but I knew well that you'd go to bed with her. This is the best day of my life! You lost, David. Lisa should have been mine. If she had loved me, she would still be alive and all this could have been mine.
Yes, dumb ass refused to "give Lisa her place" as Dud so willingly did for Grace by forbidding Luci to return to the house after having put Marta out (though I agree that hoe had to go!) Lisa KNEW Grace was after him and told the dumb ass so and he did nothing about it. Juan justifiably mocked David. Whether the writers intended it or not, Dud loved having Gracie around panting after him. Maybe while Lisa was alive he wouldn't let Grace stroke his you know what, but her lust for him sure stroked his ego!
And then this:
David stands aside from Grace's corpse and tells her she killed Lisa, her own sister. "What sadness it gives me, having been so wrong, having trusted in you, wasted so much time by your side. I lost the chance to fall in love and be happy, because of you. I can't believe I let you manipulate me this way, all this time you were abusing my children and me. I knew I would never be happy at your side, because I never loved you. My love, my heart belongs to Luciana."
Hell, Dave, we were manipulated too! We wasted our time thinking this was a love story but it was about a brain-dead vineyard owner and how he let his family and home be invaded by his psychotic sister-in-law!
But, back to the story: NO, it was NOT all because of Grace, it was because of your dumb, hypocritical ass that wouldn't give your wife a home and family FREE of her momma and jealous-assed sister, and your secret desire to ride that wild, white mare that brought you to this day, YOU IDIOT!!
And you need to thank Juan because, once again, it took Juan yelling in your face and this time he needed to shoot you to get your attention and THEN yell in your face for you to see you've had Grace's delicate whie hand up your ass ever since she killed your beloved Lisa!
Cesar couldn't tell you nothing and certainly two women, Luci and Susan, they couldn't tell you nothing, your solid bone skull had to come to this: Juan yelling to the four winds that Grace killed Lisa, you getting shot and Lil killing her own daughter! Had Juan not done what he did which lead to Grace's death, your dumb ass would've married her!
I'm glad Juan's not dead so far and I hope he doesn't die. David is such an idiot, I just had to get that off my chest. Now, to see what my other Patio Pals think!
Thank you, Julie!
Very interesting what Stevey shared about the ending in the original Venezuelan story. So Luciana WAS supposed to be Fernando's daughter! That does make sense but somehow they didn't want to go there. That's why the Martyra story was such a dud and why the whole Lilian/Marta thing turned into a nanny goat rodeo. I would not have wanted Sonia to be killed so I like that this version didn't do that but they could've done the Luci half-sister thing.
Stevey, was there a (thanks, Kirb) toe-sucking, pissing down the leg, begging character like Miguel in the original story? Or an Erica? So, instead of Luciana inheriting all of Fernando's land and estate, we have Miguelito inheriting half of a vineyard over Erica's dead body. Nice. NOT!
Also interesting how these writers seem to have heard what more sensitive souls (other than me) on this board said about Bobby not learning the whole truth. This may be possible since Grace died so quickly and only a few people know she killed Lisa, people who are fiercely protective of Bobby. I think the portrayal of Fer's shock and anguish over this crazy/tragic turn of events was appropriate. As a matter of face, she could have freaked out more: despite her doubts, she really thought DisAlmostGotAwayWithIt was the best option for her DumbDad and them as a faaaaaamily. No one could have ever dreamed Grace killed Lisa. No one! She thinks she's going to find Grace needing help with a zipper or having some last minute tearful reflection, not to hear her screeching that she's going to kill abuela like she killed that damned Lisa! Anyway, this less-sensitive soul (and it's the EP's fault!) doesn't feel one little bit sorry for Fer.
I could have felt something for Luci but the whimpering from Miggy and the caving of Luci into his begging, like Dud or Mig are the only men on earth: what an eye-rolling moment!
So, it was obviously chopped in the middle of the action just to have an audience on Monday to hopefully hang around to see the premier of Doble Vida. Whatever. I've seen Dud get a long and well-deserved ass-kicking, Grace is dead, Lil's gone to the slammer (she should have dived down the stairs head first with Gracie), FerBrat had the Brat snatched out of her and she begged through blood, snot and tears for forgiveness, so I'm ok. I know Dud and Luci are going to get together, I'm resigned to that. Monday will be fun because this thing will be over. Lawd Hammercy!
As for David and that happily ever after: in a literal sense everything he's ever done is the result of either manipulation (at the hands of his suegra, his sister-in-law, and/or his daughter) or overreaction (or perhaps more accurately overcompensation after being emotionally checked out of his family's life for two-odd years). The problem is still, IMO, that the show wrapped this believable if irritating aspect in a taco shell of accidental self-absorption that it had pulled out of a dumpster after a week and shoved our faces in it for close to half of its run. And here at the end it's all set up to just gloss it over and go "We're fine, we're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?" Even those of us who haven't written David off are having problems with this, because it still makes no one involved look good. If anything he needs a long sitdown with Dr. Ramos (and maybe Ferby, just to dot that I) and then a long, long chat with everyone in his life before he deserves anything else.
I wish I or someJuan had kept a DisG list
And we need a whole separate list for SusanLynne's #s
like #GiveMeTheDamDoritos
I will give LuLu and DudNut getting together just in the hope that MigTheBeggar will sign up for one of those space flights to Mars to kill Evil Space Robots.
I know this is nit-picky but Juan had the same gun that DisGrace used to kill Perla. They shot at about the same distance. DisGrace's shot went all the way through Perla's body and most of the blood came out of her back while Cesar pulled a bullet out of David's left arm. Shouldn't it have shattered the bone at least?
Good point about how DisGrace got off easily because she didn't get to face the music. Or public humiliation.
Interesting that Luciana was Fernando's child in the original and they didn't go there this time. However, there is much else that they could have done but didn't. More on that on Monday night.
The sure did, Bill. That's why I generally end up taking a break after a bad novela and I have a penchant for picking baddies and missing those that peeps just gush about for years.
:/
Hey Kirby, maybe somebody with a real nerdy desire to make lists will read every recap and make a DisG list. I thought about it too late.
I don't feel any more warm and fuzzy toward DudNutts as I do toward NoJuan. NoJuan was pretty evil, by way of being jealous and ...well, evil. But David was just as maddeningly bad by way of stupidity. He just makes you want to shake the sh_t out of him and tell him: "You have two eyes and two ears, at least use two of the four.
Miggs is a good guy, right? Can't stand him.
NoGame Cesar is OK, give him points for getting Soosan's pants off. That little blue number she wore to the wedding, split from Earth to 'Heaven' was rockin.
Adolfo is a great guy, but too nice, goodbye half a million.
Bill: "We're fine, we're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?" LOL that sounds familiar. "That's no moon!" :-)
I know what I wish for Miguel. I wish he'd get a life.
Since Juan's not dead, there's still a shadow of hope that Deathphone1 will surface... I won't hold my breath, though.
I guess the bullet just grazed David's arm, so wasn't close enough to the bone to damage it. (Cesar said, but I didn't put in the recap, that there was no hemorrhaging and no infection. Big surprise.) Good guys often get "grazed" with spectacular bleeding but no other serious damage. Perhaps the Force is strong with them.
Yaaaa Julie, I thought after DavNotBulletProof went down, NoJuan was kicking him AND punching his face, and if he was half smart kicking his face too. Cowboy boots, the good ones, are X-Cell-ent in a fight.
Episode. There's enough blame to go around. David didn't have the courage
To fight for his own life let alone his youngins. He's pissed at Gracie &
Lil. He needs to put his name at the top of that list. That said, get on with
The forgiveness lucy, David. Mig just
Give it up. He will always be just a
Good good friend. He's still living in
That childhood starry eyed fantasy he
Put together in his head all those years ago when they were young and he was crushing on her in mind and body.
Now,juander man. You psychotic twisted
nutjob you.I said earlier he was grace
Anvil, and he was good at it. Now it's
Time for his anvil.Who or what will it
Be? Won't find out until Monday. So now
We shall guess, assume, presume what
His end will be. Ok back to David. Man
Since you know all this stuff, why in
Hell didn't he pull himself out of the grasp of this nightmare that was the reason For him loosing the love of his life #2? Lisa was the 1st.questions we love to ask about people that do dumb ass stuff when they know they're doin
Dumbass stuff.
Ok, somebody called police, yaaaah!!
I would have loved to have seen lil's
Face When Marta came back, for the children.
I wouldn't live in that house. Gather
Your chicks and move out David.Ok yall
Thats it for me, now again.
Thank you Juls, you done good.
YES!!!! This drove me crazy. IT was what I was most looking forward to--- Grace getting her due in front of everyone.......maybe just at the part of wedding before David says "I do". I mean this is so so u fair to the viewers who have devotedly watched till the end!
He does need to know the truth and know it from David before hearing it from anyone or anything else. Fernanda and Marta should be present as well so he knows he can count on them.
Not really OT: Yesterday at MOMI I saw an interesting Spanish documentary about nannies called En Otra Casa by Vanessa Russelot. Here is a panel presentation by her and the women she profiled in the film. While the women in this film don't have the specific personal problem Marta had with Lillian their issues include the displaced affection of the children they care for as well as the fact that they are far away from their own families in order to earn money to send home.
Unfortunately I couldn't find the documentary itself but if you have a Spanish culture organization in your city, check its website to see if they're showing it. The English-language title is Far From Home to emphasize that these women are far from their own homes, as they are from Paraguay and working in Spain.
And if that little tumble down the stairs killed her remind me to sell the bicycle, motorcycle, jet ski, boat, car and never play even tag football again.
Maybe Karma was just waiting for an excuse, any excuse, to extinguish her miserable ass.
The inevitable result was that Fernanda and Bobby's affections would go to their nanny, Marta, who "got" little kids of both sexes because she had both a daughter and a son.
Now, I have two female cousins -- sisters -- who have no brothers. When both were pregnant they wanted daughters because "that's what I know" but Fate gave both of them sons. The divorced cousin lived near her parents and my uncle was thrilled to pieces to help raise a grandson. The married cousin had some practice because her husband's much-younger brother had come to live with them. Both of them did alright and I think two out of the three boys are in college now (the third will probably start in a year).
Nina Somebody said it before, but your comment this morning is poetic!
And this, Kirby, is just darned fine. Let me know if you ever recap:
He had blood in his whiskers, and a couple of scratches. But as he looked over his pride it was still intact and his tail gave an appreciative twitch.
Last show discussion out to bring out the best in all of the fine poetic and witty and sharp comments in us all. The Karma rating discussion out to be good, too, after that easy roll down the stairs DG got and the false fall Lil took for DG's tumble and death and how we was robbed by her only being confronted by Fer.
AAAAAND, bless you, Miss Anita for working on a DG list! That should be good for
Delirious Giggling!
I like Anon 12:29's idea of David confronting Grace at the altar, just before the "I do," but he would have had to shower first and tranquilize Fernanda and Lil. By the way, when they were all waiting for the bride to show up, where was the minister/judge who was going to marry them? Or the limo/cars to take them to the church? Or were they just going to jump over a broom? If so, where was the broom?
I figured out how Marta was planning to get from VSB to BLA. Umbrella. She's a nanny, right? So she travels like Mary Poppins.
Lilian saying she supported Grace's agenda because she wanted a family. She HAD a family. What did she do with it? At the best of times, she read lame books in her room, drank wine, dated a guy who wasn't welcome in the house, only pretended to help with baking a cake, schemed with her daughter, and spent very little time with her granddaughter and none with her grandson. Is that what "having a family" is like? If so, who would want that?
And Marta telling Luciana and Miguel about the "tragedy" at the other vineyard. I really did laugh at how she hesitated to tell them the wedding was cancelled, as if she thought it would trigger an inappropriate avalanche of balloons and confetti.
Did she really think Luci would be joyous at the news? That isn't in her make-up. She hasn't been mean or petty and Marta was way off target if that is what she thought.
To be honest, I thought she was hesitating because she thought Luci would go running to David (again), leaving Miguel in the dust (again). I think she's had a decided preference for Miguel over David. Some of her reasons valid (his children and the then alive Grace). Others weren't.
Diana
Kirby, I loved your tribute to The Lion King. Also, stay away from those dangerous pursuits. I am now terrified to walk downstairs to do the laundry. And who knows what is going to happen to me when I have yo go out into the backyard. #yikeslifeisscary
I completely agree with the bolded. Marta has always favored Miguel because he's already "family" to her and because he's "safe." She sees a lot of Marcos in him.
I've said it before, but Marta is forgetting that Luciana has risen above the social class of her birth. She has a college degree that's not only worth money but can take her places she couldn't go without it. She didn't have those opportunities herself and therefore has difficulty imagining them for Luciana. There could be a hint of generational envy over this, but Luciana can handle this and Marta can learn to get over it.
Diana, I wonder whether that Boston accent would do Lillian any good where she's going.
I'm watching this again now for the screencaps, and as Lil is tenderly stroking Grace's face and hair I realize that she's showing her more affection now than she did when Grace was alive. Which is understandable, I guess. Some people are easier to be nice to when they're dead.
No, I don't think her Boston accent will help Lili in jail!
I'm a Jersey girl and pronounce the word "aunt" as the insect. Here (not too far from Boston), it's aunnt.
I made the mistake of saying it the Boston way years ago back in Jersey and everyone burst out laughing and rolled their eyes. Needless to say, I say it both ways depending on where I am.
So, no. I don't think any accent will endear her to her fellow inmates...
We have strong opinions about Marta here on the patio. I am kind of ambivalent myself.
tofie, I'm not so sure that Marta would visit Lili to begin with, let alone taunt her but it is possible. I will say that if positions had been reversed, Lili might have done that to Marta.
Diana
Personally, I think Marta would more likely visit Lil than Lil would visit Marta. But even Marta wouldn't do it unless she had some new specific thing to rub in her face. I mean, she hasn't gone back to the vineyard (until now to take care of the kids), and Lil didn't look for Marta when she went to see Adolfo, so they seem to have a truce for now.
Marta, I think that you should give up trying to be Lu's matchmaker. I have been a daughter and have two daughters . It just does not work.
Diana, I say aunt (ant), too. My mother's family is from all over New Jersey.
Kirby--there are two ways to pronounce Mia: Meeeeah and Myaaaah. Which one do I go for?
L Linda.
I tried to find a picture of the Joker (Caesar Romero) facing in the same direction as Juan, but that didn't work out. Note that Caesar still has his little mustache under the makeup. If Juan were to go supervillain, would he wear makeup over the beard too? That would be quite the sight.
(her fellow inmates)and beat her but &
Say " who the hell you think you is coming in here talkin like you better than us, aint anybody havin no damn tea, you better shut the hell up".Lol.
When she made that quarter turn and kept rollin,is that when she broke her neck? Cuz I also think we was cheated
Out of a really good confrontation. I would Loved to have seen David rip her a new One in front of everybody, O and especially Lucy. Remember when they were in the cava and she flaunted her sexcapades to Lucy the day after she had sex with David the night before? Now I'd loved to have seen that bubble blowup in her face. But noooo she had to roll her Lying butt out of it. Not
Fair writers and producers, and whoever else was responsible for doin
This unfairness us loyal watchers.
And Marta needs to forget about Miguel
Being her number #1 son-In Law. AIN'T
GOING TO HAPPEN.PERIOD. And he need to
Get over it too. And stop whinning,"lu
I can make you happy",waaaaaaah. Stop.
Farther up a bit someone asked about the pastor or Judge or justice of the peace that was going to do the wedding I remember somebody coming in there telling David that he had arrived and then when everybody was out there on the patio I saw him standing there with his robes and holding his Bible waiting, and everybody was wondering "where the hell is Tia grace". DEAD!
How did Marta get to the other vineyard? Well She probably hiked up
that churchdress and ran throughout the passage that connects the two vine
Yards to get to her babies, Lol. You
Marty.
"How did Marta get to the other vineyard? Well She probably hiked up
that churchdress and ran throughout the passage that connects the two vineyard"
Julie..Cesar Romero was a friend of my Uncle Ray.
I don't know if Christian de la Campa is interested in ever taking a Joker role, but I hope he someday gets the chance. He has the perfect face for it. He looks like the Joker in a deck of cards.
Said "yes I killed your damn daughter, I did it so I could be with David"she
Should have said something to that effect to david. But I guess they thought us hearing her say it to her mother, knowing that Lisa was her favorite was more satisfying, well,NO! maybe but not much, she didn't screw her mother's life she screwed over David and his children's lives. That's who we should have heard her say it too. Sooooo, peeps we got what we got.
I wish David had walked in instead of
Fer. Then it would have been a double whammy.
Love the Aunt discussion. Hmmm, I live in the Midwest, have Southern roots and all three of these are accepted variations, at least in my little circle:
Unt
Ant (like the insect) and
Aint (like the beloved and grudgingly accepted ain't)
Less heard but won't get a laugh out of anyone:
Awnt
Hear that , Dave? In other words, galans are supposed to be proactive problemsolvers. #dropthemic
Idiot!
:/
I can't say anything about the ending, because now I've seen it. I'm tempted to tell you whether or not the vests come back, but I don't want to spoil you!
I wish Lil felt like singing, because what I want to know is WHERE is that child Fernando had with another woman. They teased us with that little secret whispered to Brian during one of the trysts we had to watch eons ago. Is that also going to get dropped? OR, perhaps some writer forgot to take that out when they PLAGIARIZED their version from the original, in which that statement was true. Aaaack.
I half expect Grace to resurrect and Dud to run away with her ghost. Miguel will probably have been forced on Carito (though she'll love it) but Miggy will be hot on Luci's tail after Dud runs away with Graaay-ceeee, the Friendly Ghost!
Re the baby Fernaaaaahndo had outside the blanket, maybe they were going to write that into the story but changed their mind cause it would cost too much!?
Julie, love the screencaps!! They are all great, but I especially like the last one that shows Lisa’s picture with Dead-is-Grace and Torn-Lil in the background. When I saw that on the TN, I thought it was poetic—kinda like she was present and witnessing justice brought on to those who hurt her and her children the most. Yeah, they hurt Dud-vid too but I really don’t care about him—his stupidity and his head (the lower one) got him what he deserved.
Susan and Lila, ITA--One of the MANY things I hated about this TN was that I could never “like” any of the main characters. Generally speaking, I tend to cheer for leads and “hate” villains throughout a TN, but with this one—NOT!! It’s like they all had split personalities—they either changed from initially being heroines/heroes to spineless, indecisive fools (like Luci and Dudvid) or they flip flopped from good-to-bad-to-good-to bad (like Marta, Lillian, Brian and Miguel…even Boobee).
The only thing I dread about the end is that Luci and Dudvid will (most likely) end up together..and live humpily ever after. I had wanted Luci to go on without Dud or Migaleech, but the way she has been flipflopping between the two and giving Migs hopes again... at this point, I really don't care--they deserve each other--she can have Dud.
RC
and make emoticons out of them? LOL
RC
Maybe it could have been Lucy. That
Would have been a good storyline to add to Garcie's and lil's misery. But the writers Had other ideas. I wonder if they read These comments? Probably not. Ur Right lila, they have no creativity. At all.
We just want it our way. Well yeah, we
Gotta watch this stuff.Lol!
I do love jelly, grape juice, jams.Mig
Should be very happy knowing that we are enjoying this stuff just because he got pissed off because Lucy don't love him the way he wants.
Now tomorrow night we'll be commenting
The lady with the double life. I hope they don't screw that up.
I also loved the one with Lisa in the foreground although Graciela's evil grin after Lili slapped her said it all.
RC, there's little doubt almost all of us had wished the leads were more likeable. The lead couple never having really been "together" in minds and hearts, we were left to desperately search for a replacement.
Luci was more animated tending to the vines than she was with David and their total lack of chemistry just added to it.
Diana
Princess Juju said she was willing if others were able to help but I don't see anything posted on the sidebar.
Thank you.
Diana
Two recent novelas I thought were great because the pacing was marvelous: All reveals didn't wait until the last hour to surface, the acting and story was great, they had more than three settings for the story but most of all, the characters were smart! If somebody was brain dead, you can bet they were literally on a ventilator in the hospital not walking around posing as The Galan! Those shows were A Que No Me Dejas and Quiero Amarte. The former had a major plot point that I didn't like but other than that, these two were perfect. I'm sure you all have your favorites. We know it is possible to be entertaining, intriguing and funny in a novela but heck, every now and then I guess you have to have one that you can't look away from, like a bad car wreck where even some mangled bodies are visible, and it's on fire and. . . .
Anyway, this was the car wreck novela for me this year. . .
Thought was a good idea.It was about love in the vineyard with these two people that fell in love with each other but couldn't be together because they were interfered with by Grace and Lillian and the writers because of the ratings and because Gracie and Lil were greedy. So here we are ladies and
Gentlemen at the end of a very upended
Tedious love story in the wine country
Where these 2 mixed messed up people
Will eventually be together. Rather we
Like it or not. I hate it when a good story goes bad.
photo and lil holdin dead gracie in the background, the Same way she held Lisa when Gracie killed her. Its like
Lisa is saying "You & mom had to learn the hard way that mine would never be yours". Perfecto!
Lila, thanks for mentioning the TNs you liked; I'll Keep an eye out for them. I just recently started watching TNs again--it had been a few years, but my sister recommended ECDLP so I got reeled in again. Right now I'm watching "Mi Adorable Maldicion" on Unimas (it's pretty good so far--well alot better than this one--fer sure!!). I'm also watching an older one, "Destilando Amor," on Univision, but I'm not really liking it..actually I don't care for the leads. I'll give it a chance and watch a few more episodes.
RC
I'll have to say that I am a bit disappointed that David did not get to confront DisGrace while she was still alive. I think DisGrace died too soon and they should have had David find out the truth while she was still alive and been able to watch her meltdown with all her lies. I would love to have seen David watch the video with DisGrace murdering Perla.
Anyway, sorry I'm so late with my comments, I've had a busy weekend. Looking forward to Monday's finale.
Well, I'm going to assume that Lilian will get life in prison, so she won't have to worry about where she will live the rest of her life, nor will she have to go back to her San Diego apartment.
Yes, Cynthia, Lilian really got a spectacular anvil, and she wallowed in it. The writers seemed to be sacrificing Grace prematurely to make things harder on Lil, at the expense of David's sense of closure. Although David doesn't seem to mind. Maybe she was dead to him already.
RC, I have watched 3 episodes of Adorable Maldicion and just have not had time to watch it. I've got the first month recorded and can't seem to get around to it. I became afraid at the end of episode 3 that the Tia's boyfriend was going to rape the young, innocent leading lady so that chilled my enthusiasm. At the beginning of episode 4 he definitely has not done so and may be more of a comic character than a dark one. I stopped recording it though, so unless The New Xfinity1 can record a whole series, even going back to episodes previously aired, I will have to go on the dark side of the net and look for bootleg!
I enjoyed DA . I always like the telenovelas starring Big Ed. Gavioottaaa. That galan had an interesting problem. Sofia Vagara played a jungle doctor sweet on Big Ed.
I akso liked Big Ed in AV. I did not care for Rulli's character (Little Gorilla) in that one , and Nikki drove me crazy..okay???? I liked Miss Vicki and her proper outfits . I also enjoyed Susana and the guy we called Dances with Sunglasses. That was an interesting pair. also the preppy guy who wore red pants and high heeled sneakers . I think that we called him Boytoy.
Well, I am off to give the reading final .
Hub started watching DA years ago and when I walked by one day and saw him, I sat down immediately! That was my first TN and I've been hooked since. AV is definitely in my top 3 favorites Susanlynn.
Cynthia, many of us wished there'd been an opportunity for David to confront Graciela.
Kirby, your avatar shows the bluest sky. Amazing. To me, whiny trumps stupid. Ack.

Back to this poor show, which is almost out of our misery--which is a little funny now, especially since Univision put this up last week as a sort of ironic counterpoint. Show being somehow retooled or tweaked after its first brush with the ratings (and considering it's been a pretty low-key novela in just about every way that doesn't involve Juan or Sonia, I'm not that surprised that it didn't flourish at first) does grant the writers some wiggle room, agreed, but then the idea apparently came up that the protagonists shouldn't be together (if this was indeed someone noticing the chemistry gap, okay fine)...and instead of being graceful about it they leaned hard enough into the turn that they lost control and piled into a ditch at speed with it. OTOH, there are two stories they went full-tilt overkill with:
1. David and Luciana not being together
2. Susan's extended emotional wreck period, courtesy the One True Pigpen Mark.
Well, tonight is the end. The recap is set to post about a half hour afterward. I will be incommunicado from 1 to 4 or 4:30 PM due to a live streaming opera from Vienna (where it will be 7PM).
Brief commercial announcement for opera lovers: It's Tosca, starring Angelina Georghiu and Jonas Kaufmann (one of the greatest and most gorgeous tenors today). The broadcast is free and you can apply here to see it.
Steve, one of the immigrants was Carito's cousin...is that included in the immigrants at Smuggling Fields?
Lila, don't be skeered, Aurora does just fine...won't tell you why so I won't spoil-'er for you :-)
Happy Monday--so close to the end of the disaster (VEA) :-D

Regarding the romance/lack of it: I wish Miguel had married Erika, and that Erika hadn't died. Luci and Erika become good friends. And then some other guy (who Irina had good chemistry with) shows up and David gets all steamed and has a thing with Grace out of jealousy.
That would have been more interesting, regardless of how things might have ended up in that scenario. (Or, it would have been more of a mess. Who knows? I still need to rewrite my "real" alternate ending.)
I met him once and what you see is what you get. He's also very charming.
Since the upcoming weekend is Mother's Day, we will do the Alternate Ending discussion and and I will propose a later date for our next discussion of Toxic Mothers.
DA is on Unimas and Unimas West (times are the same as noted above). Mi Adorable Maldicion is the one that is on Univision.
SO SORRY!!
RC
I always mute the theme song to this train wreck.
Lila, the music from DA takes me back, too. My life was kind of different then, and I was listening to the soundtrack constantly, so it's a bittersweet feeling.
Urban, do you mean I can watch that opera any time? Not just while it's live?
I cannot wait to see his the writers finally decided to end this story.
Everyone passed the reading final. Now to post final grades.
OT..Urban,Glad that it was good . One if my older daughter's friends studied in Vienna for a semester. She loved it. I am putting it on my bucket list right after a trip to Scotland! If I only did not hate airports and flying so much !!!
OT (sorta)... Will any of you guys be tuning in to watch the Gran Estreno of 'La doble vida de Estela Carrillo' (henceforth, of course, to be known as LDVDEC)? I know that Princess Juju was kind enough to put up a little introductory post about it, and there were a few people, (Adriana Noel, Julie, and Vivi, I think) who were nibbling, but I don't know about how the recapping situation is going.
I really wish that there was something that I could do, but not only do we not get Univision up here in Canada, but Univision BLOCKS any and ALL internet broadcasts of their shows up in these parts (I am back in Toronto ). Sure, we may have a high standard of living, cultural acceptance, and universal healthcare... but my GOD, with the price a telenovela lover like me apparently has to pay, it ain't worth it!!! (WHO has screwed up priorities? ME????? NEVER!!! (lol)
But I do hope that you guys will turn in. I KNOW a lot of people here will enjoy it! As I said in Juju's posting on it earlier, I myself am really, kinda liking it... which is amazing, because if anybody had told me previously that I would be not-hating a Rosy Ocampo novela that has elements of the narco/underworld AND actors singing, I would have advised them to get their head examined!! I thus think it's cruel and obscene that (from what I understand, Univision is going to be airing it at the same time (9 pm?) as LC- a truly awesome novela- is going to be airing on UniMas, but I'd really encourage you guys to try and get into them both, if you're able to in any way.
Thanks you guys! Looking forward to joining you guys for the fallout from tonight!! And hope to see you guys after the Gran Estreno of LDVDEC, too!
With my continued best wishes to all, as always... :-)
BTW, when I left that performance that was the night I had trouble getting home and I was almost a zombie when I got to my place. I dearly hope that wasn't a curse!
I've already decided I will watch. Having almost zero Spanish comprehension will leave me not choice. If it ends up not being recapped (and it doesn't look like it at this point), will switch to LC when that comes on Unimas.
You sound very enthused so perhaps those of us watching can at least post our thoughts, at least initially.
Kirby, another amazing shot. Fl seems like paradise.
Diana
