La candidata Friday 7/28/17 Capítulo 34: Regina Starts the War Against Alonso OR: Marcia Learns What a Salary With No Work Makes Her

No-tell hotel room--It turns out that it is room service at the door. Wise Gerardo decided that they did need to eat before going to work even though Regina is in a rush. Since they are both without a political party now, Gerardo suggests that they work with the Political Force Party because they can provide them with opportunities to start to work together. Hmmm. . . Regina says then they will be continuing together as a couple as well as working together in the senate. Gerardo likes the way she is thinking. Regina thinks they will have to get their own party. That is why Gerardo thinks that working with the Popular Force Party is an excellent choice for them to start with. There is more laughing, kissing, canoodling on the bed with Regina's phone repeatedly pinging and ringing. She chooses to ignore it. Post-canoodling, reality demands attention. Regina checks her phone to discover that her mother is out of the hospital and has called three times, Natalia and Emiliano have called, too, as well as there being countless messages from Daniela. Finally, Regina and Gerardo take their hands off of each other and they leave.

Noemí's bedroom--Natalia asks a trembling Noemí why she does not want to stay in her home. Noemí clarifies the matter by saying she doesn't want to be with anyone. She begs Natalia to take her to Regina. Natalia asks if Mario is treating her badly. Noemí starts to answer but is interrupted by the nurse who has to tend to Noemí. The nurse asks Natalia to leave the room for a few minutes so she can care for her patient. When Natalia is out of the room, the nurse makes sure that Noemí understands that Mario wants her to really watch over her. She offers some advice: not to talk and to pay attention to her husband. The nurse can tell he really worries about her a lot. The nurse gives her a sedative. When Natalia returns, Noemí thinks she had already left. The nurse makes a point of telling Natalia that Noemí cannot talk long. She needs to rest. The nurse leaves. Natalia assures Noemi the sedative will help the pain disappear. Natalia is concerned though and asks Noemí if she is okay since she asked her to help her leave her home earlier. In tears, Noemí does ask her for a favor. Could she just bring her a little whiskey? Natalia cannot do that especially with all of her medications. Noemí begs for just one drink. She needs it.

An elevator to the hotel lobby--Regina and Gerardo have taken an antique open wrought iron elevator complete with an elevator operator to go down to the lobby. (like in the old days but he did not have on the requisite white gloves) As they are about to get off at lobby level, Hernán appears out of nowhere and pushes them back in. The entrance to the hotel lobby is filled with reporters.

The hotel lobby--Teresa is still arguing with the desk clerk who is insisting that there is no "Gerardo Martínez" listed in their guest book. If she does not calm down, he will have to ask her to leave. Teresa is not leaving without her husband. The desk clerk calls security to remove Teresa if she does not leave on her own. This just makes her dial up her tantrum to a whole new level. She starts yelling about a scandal and banging her handbag on the counter. She makes it to the atrium of the lobby where she starts screaming about that "whore" Regina and her husband. Security guards try to get her to leave and she resists.

An elevator to a higher floor, back down and beyond--Regina, Gerardo and Hernán witness Teresa's meltdown as the elevator ascends. Regina blames herself for the scandal with all of the reporters because she registered with her real name. (duh, you think so?) Hernán thinks one of the hotel employees leaked it. (no, really?) They get off on a higher floor and Hernán has a plan for them to exit via the employees' entrance in the back. In the midst of fleeing, Regina stops and asks Hernán what he is getting out of helping them. Hernán does not like gossip and they have a common enemy: Alonso. Teresa's increasing volume gets them moving faster down a back stairway. Out front, Teresa is addressing the press. Unfortunately, she has to announce that Senator Regina Barcenas is having sex with her husband in this very hotel. At the same time, Hernán has led them out the back of the hotel. Regina leaves by taxi and Gerardo take his car.

Regina's taxi--Daniela finally makes contact with Regina to let her know that the press is waiting for her outside of her office. What should she do? Regina is going home first and will talk to her from there.

Ignacio's office, the morgue, Ignacio's apartment, a beer drinking guy's apartment----Ignacio rushes his ex-wife Jessica out of his office. He has places to go and things to do. Not known to her, he is off to the morgue to identify the body of a young woman who has been found. Luckily for him, it isn't Nayeli. Later, Jessica will visit Ignacio at his apartment and he has to tell her that Nayeli is missing and cannot be found. Not know to them, Nayeli is asleep in the bed of some beer drinking guy who keeps yelling for her to get up.

Alonso's office--Mauro goes to talk to Alonso who is just furious watching the news coverage about the dead children at the general hospital at Ixtapalapa because of the expired vaccines. Alonso has nothing to worry about according to Mauro. Being the interim governor he will make sure that Alonso is covered. Alonso is not too sure because they are from the same party. Anyway, Mauro thinks this could turn out to be to their advantage. Alonso can't see how. Mauro explains. This gives them an opportunity to get rid of Lorena Sánchez. After hearing that, Alonso thinks they can hit two birds with one stone. Alonso wants Mauro to personally go to Ixtapalapa and extend condolences to all of the parents of the dead children. Mauro also brings up what Emiliano's keeper/body guard Héctor said Emiliano wanted him do to Hernán. Alonso concludes that Emiliano sees life as one big gangster movie. Alonso wants to talk to Héctor who arrives shortly thereafter in his office. Alonso understands that Emiliano wants Hernán beaten up and threatened. Héctor asks what is he to do. Exactly what he did is the answer: tell Alonso. He also should tell Emiliano that what he asked for was done but not touch Hernán. One more thing, Alonso wants to know if Emiliano is sleeping with Cecilia. That question Héctor cannot answer since he just stands outside by the door when Emiliano visits her. Alonso wants to be kept informed. Alonso tells Mauro he plans to put the brakes on Emiliano and stop him before he does something stupid. (should be something ELSE stupid)

Cecilia's office, the halls of the government building--Emiliano is trying to explain to Cecilia that he just came into Alonso's office because he heard him yelling at her. Cecilia asks Emiliano if he wants Alonso to run her out of there. "No" is his answer. If that is the case, she is asking him not to stick his nose in her business. If his father ever were to find out what had gone on between them, she would be out on the street. Emiliano goes on about how he cares for her; he is falling in love with her like a crazy. Cecilia then asks him if he loves her so much as he says, why does he not just go? She will call him. He finally agrees to leave but has one last question: does she have a relationship with Hernán? The answer is "no". Emiliano concludes she is not interested in Hernán and she is not interested in him either. Rather than letting Emiliano go dejected, Cecilia changes her tone. Of course she is interested in him but he has to behave himself. If he ever wants to see her again, she will be the one calling the shots. He steps forward looking like he is going to kiss her. She opens the door and he finally leaves. He goes roaming the halls looking for Héctor. When he meets up with him, Héctor tells him Alonso wanted to talk to him and asked if Emiliano was sleeping with Cecilia. What did Héctor tell Alonso? "Nothing" is the answer because he doesn't know anything. Héctor warns Emiliano that Alonso thinks he has something going on with Cecilia. Héctor also tells him he took care of Hernán. Are they off to classes? Emiliano answers with "what classes?"

Magda's office--Mauro and Magda are debriefing about all of the drama going on with Cecilia, Lorena and Alonso. Alonso insists that the most important factor in all of this is Alonso and that he is going to need Magda to help him stop the Emiliano craziness going on and also stop Cecilia from getting close to Emiliano. Magda asks if Mauro thinks that she has slept with Emiliano. Mauro does not think that Emiliano has slept with Cecilia yet but he is running so hot he is close to it. Magda wonders what Alonso thinks. Mauro thinks he already knows. Mauro is really worried about Alonso who seems to be keeping his cool because when Alonso explodes he is capable of anything.

Press conference room at the government building--Mauro is holding a press conference. He has all of the information on the expired vaccines that were given at the General Hospital at Ixtapalapa. Yes, the vaccines were expired. All of the vaccines from those expired batches are being removed and an investigation is underway. A reporter asks if any arrest warrants have been issued. Mauro says that one has been issued for for the Secretary of Promotion and Prevention who was responsible for the acquisition of said vaccines. Of course, the Secretary of Health Lorena Sánchez has been relieved of her duties. The city government apologizes for what happened and joins the families in their pain from such a terrible loss. They will have the necessary support. He will persevere until everyone responsible is brought to account. They will be doubling the budget for health and education as soon as their international financing is approved.

Alonso's office--Alonso is talking to Magda about Teresa and how her public tantrum has made the front pages of the newspapers/services and all of the social networks. Magda is showing him what is online on a tablet. Alonso knew Regina was with that idiot when she never came home to sleep. He also knows Regina did it to get revenge for Lorena Sánchez. Alonso refers to Regina as a "real bitch". Magda chides him for calling Regina his wife that. Alonso does not care. What is he supposed to do? Celebrate her? Now everybody is looking at him that "cuckhold" Alonso. Alonso is going to get revenge. He is going to sink Regina. Magda looks sad.

Regina's house--Regina talks to Natalia who brings her up to date on her mother Noemí. She describes Noemí as fragile and hallucinating at times supposedly from the anesthesia and/or drugs. Her mother is in pain. Regina knows her poor mother is in no state to hear about her problems with Alonso. Natalia knows how angry she must have been to not have come home last night. Regina realizes how difficult it must be for Natalia with Alonso being her son. Natalia explains that Regina will always be family to her no matter what happens. She thanks her for giving her the best she has: her wonderful grandson Emiliano. She wants Regina to be happy doing whatever she wants with whomever she wants. Regina loves her, too. They hug. Later Regina gets into it with ill-mannered Emiliano who blames her and her relationship with Gerardo for the upheaval in the family. He congratulates her for making his father a cuckold. Emiliano has no desire to talk to his mother. She can just forget about him.

The government building in a hallway--Gerardo is being hounded and followed by the press. His message is short: He and Teresa have been separated for a while/He has no comments about Senator Barcenas/Please respect his personal life/No further comments.

Omar's house--Mario and Omar are meeting over drinks. Omar is saying that is how things are and that they need to soften the damage that has been done. Lorena Sánchez is saying that she has documents and papers that could damage Mario. Mario insists he is on the outside of all this. Omar asks if he is backing out. Mario thinks he already did his part by giving Omar a hand when he needed it. Omar laughs. He knows Mario only gave him a hand because it was going to serve him. Omar wants Mario to get rid of Lorena because she is a danger for everyone. Mario asks Omar exactly what is he asking. Omar sits back and says "A word to the wise . . . (is sufficient)"/ "Al buen entendedor . . .(pocas palabras)" Mario smiles.

Outside of Ximena's school, --Ignacio and his ex-wife Jessica confront Ximena to find out all they can about Nayeli. Ignacio is so depressed. He has even been to the morgue. He needs her help. Ximena tells them that she and Nayeli had an argument. Nayeli left at midnight. She has not heard from her since. She refuses to tell them what the argument was about.

Somewhere away from the government building, at the government building and outside the government building --Lorena is moaning to Larreta that he is behind her fall; that he set her up. Larreta asks if she really thought she could go toe to toe with Alonso and win. They talk of betrayal: him never leaving his wife. She needs to accept it, sign her resignation, and go somewhere else that is more suited to her. Lorena tells him that he is not much of a man. He should also tell Alonso and all of his mafiosi that they are going to be sorry. Later Lorena decides to go see Alonso but gets no farther than the lobby. She is stopped by security thugs who escort her out to the street where Almirón in waiting for her with a black van. Almirón wants her to accompany them so they can help her solve a little problem. She does not want to go but the security goons throw her into the van.

Cecilia's office--Alonso comes in and orders Cecilia to get her things and come with him. How can she come when she is dealing with the fallout from the expired vaccines and Lorena Sánchez? He does not care. She works for him so she needs to hurry up.

In a jewelry store--Emiliano is looking at a extravagant diamond bracelet. He asks Héctor what he thinks. Héctor comes back with a less than excited comment about it being pretty but also how it would cost him 5 years of his salary. Emiliano continues being his arrogant self with the poor saleswoman threatening her job when she asks for identification but ends up buying it and giving her a check. Emiliano wants it delivered to an address that he gives the sales woman and he handwrites a note to be included.

At the casino--Almirón stops by to give Teresa a nice envelope of cash from Mario. She is very pleased but she faints shortly thereafter. A doctor comes and sees her. She needs to have some medical tests. Ximena comes by to take her home. Mother and daughter are soon arguing when Ximena asks why she was at the casino.

Noemí's bedroom--Regina is paying her mother a visit sitting on the bed talking to her. Her mother turns down Regina's offer to come and stay with her because she does not want to be in the middle of that divorce battlefield. Regina would rather not talk about it. Noemí warns he she is throwing her life and career to the dogs. Regina stands up and has to note it is always the same old same old with her mother always making sure Alonso is right. Noemí is only saying it for her own good. Regina has to thank her own hard work for the economic and political successes she has had. Noemí wants to know if Regina is planning on moving in with that man (Gerardo). Noemí saw his wife on the news. They are such "low class" people. Regina asks her to respect her decisions. It is her life after all. Noemí continues: Gerardo is not at her level. He is a loser: a "don Nobody". Regina is going to ruin her life. Before she leaves, Regina tells her mother that Natalia had said she was hallucinating due to her medications, but Regina sees that Noemí is more lucid and meaner than ever.

In Cecilia's bedroom--Alonso has gotten rough with Cecilia and launched an attack. He has pushed her up against a door. He wants to know what she is doing with his son.He asks that twice. What did Lorena Sánchez say? Is Cecilia going behind his back? Is she planning on trading him in for his son? Cecilia tries to fight back. She tells him he is hurting her. He does not care. He throws her on the bed and crawls on top of her with them both fully clothed. He tells her that he is better than his son, much better. He keeps trying to force himself on her and get her to acquiesce. She is not cooperating. (I felt sorry for Susana González since her shoulder blades, neck and head were not supported by the bed in this scene. Ouch!)

Marcia at Omar's house and at the government building--Omar has arranged a sweet deal for Marcia. She can work for the government and get a salary. All she has to do is go and see Mauro and sign some papers. She wants to know if she will be working at the government building. "Not even in her dreams." is Omar's answer. She can have her own money and not have to work. Marcia kisses Omar. He sends her off with some cash to buy something "exciting" and with a slap on the derrière. When Marcia gets to Mario's office things are far more chilly. Mauro hands her the forms and asks if she can read which rubs her the wrong way. She asks that he not disrespect her. He tells her to read and sign fast because he has far more important things to do. Next, Alonso comes in and immediately wants to know why Marcia is there. He asks Mauro to leave him alone with his "step-mother." Alonso has basically one question: How much money will it take to make her go away? She tells him about the "government job". He responds that only a "whore" (mujerzuela" this time) gets a salary without working. He doesn't want to hear how she has fallen in love with Omar either. She is going to disappear. She says she won't. She leaves the office. He pursues her down the hall and tells Mauro to give the prostitute what she wants loud enough that everyone in the hallway can hear. Marcia is looking around nervously as she is now the center of attention. Alonso does not want to see her again. Mauro addresses her as her "Cinderella" and asks her how much she wants.

Cecilia's apartment--Ding dong! It is the delivery man from the jewelry store. Cecilia, now in a bathrobe, signs for the package, looks at the note and sighs but not in a happy way. She opens the box and pensively looks at the diamond bracelet.

Gerardo's office--Regina goes to see Gerardo. He makes a move towards her. She puts out her arm and stops him. They have to end their relationship. He is taken aback. They just woke up together. They made love. How can she say that? Her son hates her (she says this 2X.)She cannot hurt him. Alonso is going to ruin her life. Her son has to deal with her public shame at school. Gerardo asks if she loves him. Yes, she does but it is not so easy. Gerardo counters with of course it isn't easy. Nobody said it was going to be easy.(Sounds like a song title/lyrics) What about their children? Gerardo explains that of course they do not want to hurt their children but their children have to understand that their marriages did not work, they failed. Does she not want to be an example to her son? Gerardo embraces her and comforts her. After Regina is all calmed down they are back to talking politics, union meetings, political parties, and Gerardo working really hard to get her the presidency. Daniela interrupts the discussion to let Regina know that Alonso is waiting for her in her office. Gerardo offers to go see him. Regina says she will take care of Alonso herself.

Regina's office--When Regina comes in, Alonso congratulates her on getting revenge. Now that she had a roll in the hay with Gerardo, they are even, right? Regina asks what he is doing here. He does not want anymore surprises. He wants to ask her face to face if she wants to destroy his career. She says she doesn't have to since he is doing it all by himself. He warns her not to provoke him. She tells him not to talk to her that way. She is not his employee. He is the one who decided to destroy their marriage. She opened her eyes and could not go on lying. She is going to live her life so he should go and live his. He asks if having sex with that imbecile Gerardo is living her life. She tells Alonso that she does not love him any longer. She does not admire him any longer. The absolute worst of it all is that she feels sorry for him. He is blinded by power. She is going to fight against him and his people. She will face off against him and all that he represents. She is going to announce her candidacy. She wants to be the president of her country. As far as Alonso is concerned Regina is an imbecile. She knows he will make her life hell. She is going to beg him to stop but he won't. She is going to live the worst nightmare of her life.

Another action-filled episode. I sure enjoyed it. More mañana.

Thank you so much, Jarifa!

I loved the direction during he hotel "chase." It was beautifully shot and the location was gorgeous.

It's funny that Alonso thinks he can threaten Regina. He should know she never backs down, no matter what. Now will he destroy Emiliano to destroy Regina? We will see how heartless he is.

The Marcia highest bidder scene was hilarious. What does she expect? She knows full well how her relationship with Omar must look even if she were interested.

Emiliano and Cecelia continue to induce barf. Now I'm dying for Mario to find out just to see what he will say...too far or just enough for his master plan?

Gracias, Jarifa. This series and everyone's recaps never disappoint.

The Village Fool Award of the Day goes to Emiliano for that jewelry purchase. Who is ultimately going to pay that bill if Cecelia doesn't do the smart thing and return it? Cecelia is old enough to be his mother and what he doesn't know about her now will come crashing down on him when all is revealed. Mario's reaction will be epic, whatever it will be, and this would become a huge scandal if the gutter press were to find out about it.

It looks very much like Noemi will end up as Mario's prisoner and the nurse is going to keep her sedated. Here's hoping that Regina figures this out quickly.

One cliche is holding true so far: The leads make love for the first time and are forced to abstain for the next X episodes for all the wrong reasons. What does concern me is Teresa fainting. If she is pregnant she will pin it on Gerardo when Ignacio is the actual front runner. This will cause tremendous problems for everyone unless Nayeli comes forward with that photo she took with her cell phone.

More later.

You're welcome!

Alfredo, I did a little research and the hotel was the Art Deco treasure: Gran Hotel Ciudad de México located on the Zócalo. Unfortunately, we only got to see the Tiffany glass behind the elevator and not the huge vaulted Tiffany glass ceiling.

Urban, I was wondering about that, too: who exactly is paying for that bracelet? Does Emiliano just have a checkbook with that much in it? I would doubt it. I am disappointed that they are probably going to make Teresa the one with an unplanned pregnancy. It sure woud be to the writer's/producer's credit to not go there.

One more thing: they did censor Alonso calling Regina "muy perra". Really? That was funny.

Thanks for that Jarifa! I wish we wouldve seen more. Future rendevous perhaps?

I dont mind cliches but I look put for how they are handled. YoNo qlso had cliches but it handled amazingly so I didnt mind. Lets see how LC handlea them.

The fact that this is set in the politicial world makes an unplanned pregnancy more interesting though because the consequnences could mean the end of someones career or a tarnished reputation.

The censors are dumb. I am watching it on the Uni app and the words are everyday words but oh their sensitive ears.

It's an interesting tension between the Regina and Gerardo and their supposed duty to their children who want secure family life which was a mirage from the start. I loved Alonso's disgust with Marcia, his new mother-in-law and his desire to make her go away no matter what the cost. Another interesting dynamic was Alonso's wish to demonstrate that he is a better lover than his son. Cecelia is so messed up that she thinks she has to take off her clothes and comply. I wonder what is going to happen to Lorena? Is she the next victim?

Who joined the Body Count ?

Both Ximena and Emiliano are delusional about their parents, but she is worse than he is.

Gerardo and Teresa were divorced at least a few years ago. There was no attempt on his part to fool her or Ximena into thinking that they would ever re-uninte. At the outset of this tale Ximena was desperate to get out of Teresa's house. The biggest mistake Gerardo made was allowing Teresa to move into his place. That Ximena saw her coming on to him and him capitulating to this to get it over with is the biggest misfortune he has experienced thus far.

The illusion maintained by Alonso and Regina lasted longer for Emiliano. The delusion was aided by Mario and Noemi. He will crash and burn without professional help.

Thanks for the very complete recap, Jarifa! This is the second episode in a row I missed--this time because of a parade--a lot more fun than this tn, high quality though it may be in acting, plotting, etc.

Is it strange that, at least when this thing began, I thought they both knew that their parents were in trouble?

I think children, especially teenagers, pick up on things faster than adults and would've known "the love was gone."

Ximena is strange because she knew her parents were on the rocks but Gerardo moving her into his home was a GIANT mistake indeed.

They should just let Teresa go, and let her crash and burn if she wants, either way she will bring all of them with her.

AS for Alonso, Regina will need to deal with the fall out and just let Emiliano's rebellious run it's course. He is going to do it anyway…

Once again, I am left wondering how old these kids are. Are they in university as was suggested by a sign a while back or are they still in prep? They somehow seem younger lately.

Any way, whatever their age, the parents should just handle their problems without telling the kids so much. There is just too much kid involvement and enmeshment in these relationships between adults that should be kept just between those adults.

I think Emiliano is meant to be 17 and Ximena might be a year or two older. I don't recall seeing them on the same school campus.

Teresa and Alonso are both major narcissists and that malady comes with a lack of boundaries. This is particularly horrible because it's been going on all these kids' lives. At this rate neither will have a clule as to what appropriate boundaries are.

Thank you Jarifa, great recap.

I am glad Regina is finally going to run for president. That will be the biggest torture for Alonso. When he sees Regina winning the support of the people his ego will be hurt.

Teresa fainting is indeed worrisome.

I said it before, Alonso is pathetic. The scene with Cecilia where he tells her he is better than his son. Give a break loser.

Hernan is turning out to be one of my favorite characters. He sure saved the day getting Regina and Gerardo out of there. And the fact that he can talk about his animosity towards Alonso makes him more likable.

In Telenovelaland when a woman of child-bearing age faints, it's almost always a pregnancy. As I've said before, it's too bad Cecilia's so messed up due to her creepy parental influence. Otherwise, she and Hernán would be a great couple.

I am so happy the soccer interruptions seem to be over.

Thanks, everyone, for stopping on by.

Jarifa: Re the soccer interruptions, as they say in tnland: Cancelado, cancelado, cancelado. Or in Classical times: May the heavens avert the omen. :)
