Caer En Tentacion #68, 1/23/18: Time To Play Hard Ball
- There's a crisis of faith at the jail between Alina and Santiago who is asking her for cash from the kids to plan who knows what through his jail-mate's connections. Alina refuses, guessing something's up. "--Get another lawyer if you really don't think I'm acting in your best interest. Things take time! It won't be long now. It's your right to be let loose without convincing proof of the crime. This judge knows that. Trust me! I will get you out of here." Santi holds off.
- At the same time, Raquel squares off with Miriam in the doorway of Mimi's manse de expanse. "--I'm here for Benji. I am not going to let what you did to Damian happen to Benjamin!" She accuses Mimi of competing with Dam for his love--and not just motherly love. "--If I've kept quiet all this time it was for your son! If you continue with this you'll force me to come out with it." This threat really gets Mimi screamin'. (Mimi has an Achilles heel, after all. Skeletons apparently are just waiting to tumble out of her walk-in.) "--Years of terror! Years of therapy, of not being able to speak about it. You abused him, Miriam! Give Benji back or I will not stop till everyone knows, including your grand kids!"
- Across town at Santi's, Juan looms large and glowers menacingly as he gets his Green Julk on. He grabs little rabbit-like Lola who is all alone and begins another beat down. "--You whore! You slept with him?" Just in the nick of time Bebo races in and starts a beat down on Juan. Bebo gets him in a choke hold. Juan says he hopes she loses the kid so he doesn't know what his daddy's like. Bevo informs him that the bun that's bakin' in her oven is julkin' sulkin' Juan's. Juan deflates and leaves.
- At Mimi's once again, she demands the maid take the baby the hell away. Mia comes downstairs curious to know what's happened. "--She came here to threaten me!! She is CRAZY!!" Mimi spurns her. She gets disgusted and goes back home.
- At Legato's main office, like Dracula, Andres has arisen and he continues to harass Nico about his daddy and him only wanting Fede's money, and his family essentially murdering Dam since he might as well be dead in that bed. Once Security arrives, Andres punches Nico in the belly and demands Azucena call the police. She tells him not to call the police and make a worse scene. Fede takes Nico and leaves.
- At Raq's place, she and Cinthia discuss Raquel's new found courage in telling off Mimi.
- In Valle at the local dumpy cantina, Vicente's lost another bet and cannot pay up. He finds the squirrely looking loan shark from the area and asks for anther thousand pesos. "--What's the matter? Got nobody to extort now that Becker's gone?" Vice tells Squirrely he doesn't know what he's talking about and who told him this? Why Vice did when he was schnakkered. He's got a big mouth when he drinks. So, Squirrely only agrees to loan him money if Vice tells him what other secrets the Beckers can be blackmailed with.
- Santi tells Jail Mate he's not going through with things just now.
- Alina gets a call from Nico and won't take it cuz Rueda's there. She pretends she wants to do business with him and asks as a friendly gesture he talks Andres out of pressing charges against Nico. He agrees to that provided she does everything she can to keep Santi locked up in jail for ever. She agrees.
- Lola admits it was love who led her here and she was wrong to believe him every time he said he'd changed. Bevo tells Lola he's always been in love with her and will be there forever to protect her. She takes his arm and hugs him. All good.
- Nacho arrives and Bebo fills him in on Juan. Nacho tells him they've got to focus on getting the construction done so they can all get paid for the project, since at this point in time, Santi is nearly broke.
- Fede and Nico go to Fede's home. They tell Raq what's gone on and she agrees to tell the police that yes, it was a verbal agreement with Dam on that construction project. She later calls Antonio to make her statement. She adds that Santi wanted a contract, but Dam said it wasn't necessary.
- Nico calls Alina for advice and to advise her of Raq's decision to explain about the verbal agreement Santi and Dam had over the construction project. She tells him to use her apartment till things settle down with Andres. A bit later Nico lets Lola know where he's staying the next few days.
- Rueda speaks with Mimi. She tells him about her DIL's threats. You've got to stop her! Do anything! Pay her cash or ...give her back the boy, she tells him. This is too serious not to. He advises pushing her advantage with Santi until he agrees to whatever demands. She says Raq's too dangerous and will destroy her. Rueda suggests fighting her by using the reporter lady, that Laura lady. He takes a call then.
- Mia arrives home and asks Raq what's going on with Mimi. Raq starts to tell her who Grammy really is....
- Carolina is sleeping in. Florencia is handling the baby. Caro's awakened by a threatening call from an unknown female. "--I know what you're doing, Carolina." "--Who is this?" "--I know everything, Carolina. Be careful." She asks if the caller's joking or what. Click.
- Raq is having breakfast when Dam comes into the kitchen. She's still raw from Dam's taking Caro's side in all of the fracas over the baby's respiratory problem. She tells him she's not accepted Caro's apology and is not going to be Benji's madrina, and what's more, she's quitting the partnership with the catering company. She refuses anymore contact with the ungrateful wretch. She's sick of him trying to defend Caro.
- At the college library some of the girls Lola's met tell her they have a friend in common: Patricia Vargas. They inform her of all the juicy stories she's told them about Lola and wonder if they're true and what it was like and if she' Patti's lover or not. Lola gets disgusted and leaves without saying a word.
- Dam comes to the catering office to discuss Raq's decision. Caro relates how she came to the house to apologize but was turned away and was rejected. They spar back and forth about being two different families and their needing to attend to their own two lives now. He finally is forced to declare he'd face any and all now so that they could be together. "--Are you ready and willing to go away with me to begin a new life?"
- Santi goes to Raq's home and tries smoothing things over but Raq tells him the same thing she told Dam. No go.
- Mia tells Nico again that he only wants to turn every conversation they have into a sexual one. He disagrees and reminds her he's giving her all the time in the world besides. He just wants to hang with her.....
- Meanwhile, the protected witness has left her safe house and the cops are frantic to find her. She's come to Laura's studio specifically to complain about police harassment. She's been harassed and she's to be respected since she's in the Witness Protection program. Laura cannot resist listening to her.
- Santi shows Florencia a very expensive and unique bracelet he's gotten to give to Caro who walks in on the two of them discussing it. She appears to be jealous.
- "--Now you know what kind of woman your Abuela is." Mia doesn't think so, at least today the woman looked to be so fragile. Raq warns her not to be taken in like that. She's evil through and through. Mia admits today she saw that Mimi didn't really want Benji so she's willing to help her mother get him back.
- Godoy pays a visit to Laura and warns her she's got to stop crossing the professional line like she has. She's about to throw his and Antonio's lives and livelihood into the dumpster. She just spouts more "woe is me and ya done me wrong" at him. He's at his wits' end. She's not the only one to blame that their relationship is at an end. He screams back at her what is he supposed to do kill himself?
- Nico comes by Mia's to tell her where he'll be staying over the next few days and why. Mia claims it is just another excuse to have relations with the boss lady. Mia tells him she knows better and have a good time. She walks away.
- Sure enough when Nico gets himself situated at Alina's she makes another move on him. He tries to say it's over but she says this is how he'll pay her for handling his daddy's case. He succumbs tp her charms....
- Raq visits Antonio at his office and gives her statement. She then goes into see Santi. While they are discussing the case, Jail-Mate's current squeeze walks in. Santi looks over and notices she's wearing what appears to be Caro's fancy bracelet. He goes wild and begins grabbing at her through the bars.

My only question is why Raquel has waited until now to put the brakes on Miriam. Just think of so much hear tbreak that could have been avoided. So, although I appreciated and enjoyed Raquel's ability to stop Miriam, her using that here and not before feels contrived.

The Big Reveal--What will it mean?
In revisiting earlier episodes, I saw the scene where Raq had been frozen out of all Legato business affairs. Dam basically told her that he didn't want trouble between her and Miriam--like she was starting to have just then.
He was probably aware of Raq's weakness for panic attacks and had decided to keep the two of them apart as well as possible. She was the kids grandmother, after all, for good or bad.
He also had probably buried his abuse deep down and now that he was a "man" or an adult, he also probably thought he was over it and could deal with mamma. It's too bad she was one of the first to find out about the affair.
Raq probably did her darndest to keep Miriam away from her kids, especial when Fede and Mia turned out to be handfuls.
Can't wait to find out what form the abuse took.

Since Televisa does not promote abortion (unless it was off screen and long ago), the only way to lose a baby is to miscarry. I hope Lola loses this baby. She already has too much on her shoulders at too young an age.
I hope Santi gets out of jail legitimately (no evidence) and does not have to use a lot of cash to bribe the judge. Alina should know how those things are managed. And speaking of Alina....we still don't know which side she's on.
It probably won't be the loan shark who gets rid of Vic, though I wish. He will do himself in, either ending up in prison or dead in the river, like his father.
I've now had to move Nico over in the Stupid Column. He should have known better. He already knows the blood in Alina's veins run hot and cold and can't be trusted. He sure found out how she expects him to pay off his (his father's) debt to her. Even if she is sincere about trapping Rueda, she needs to go down, too.
It will take a miracle for Mia to get well. Nico isn't a professional and that's what she needs. So far, she's rejected all the professional help available to her. Until she admits she needs help, she's lost. If she's the killer, her life might be spared by being declared not guilty by reason of insanity--not hard to prove, methinks.

This is just a theory but I’m wondering if there’s a connection between the mystery caller and the woman who has Carolina’s bracelet. Because it was a woman on the other end of that call to Carolina.
Not in the least bit surprised that Miriam wasn’t a model mother. I wonder what kind of abuse she made Damian suffer and what role did her husband/Damian’s father have in Damian’s life.

This TN finally feels like it at the cusp of revelations. Although there are many suspects coming out of the woodwork, my bet is still on Andres. As much of a coward as he is, because he is a coward (hits Nico only while Nico is being held by security guards),I do think he could have hired someone to kill Carol. He is the epitome of low life. He exploits young women, launders money, betrays his own family, blackmails Damian, threatens Carolina, has some type of arrangement with Vinny, and many other criminal, low life activities that Murder would not be that much of a reach for him.
Now as far as Lola and Bebo are concerned I am very afraid for them because Juan is not done, especially now that he knows the baby is his.

Bebo was stupid to tell Juan the baby is his. Now if she doesn't lose it, slimy creepola will have a hold on her forever. He won't ask for full custody because he wants to stay close to Lola and control her. Bad move, Bebo, bad move.

Obviously Mia wants Carolina (and Santiago) out of their lives so they can be a happy family again etc etc. She’s capable of doing something against Alina so it’s possible that, while she might not be directly involved in Carolina’s murder, she probably could’ve at least scared her a bit.

Did she find a shrink as crooked as her lawyer and pay him off to bury memories? And why the hell did Damian have any contact with her when he became an adult? Where the hell was his father during all that? How did Raquel find out?
We may have found someone who beats out Catalina and Ursula. How much worse could this get?
Bebo should have kept his mouth shut and just given Juan an ultimatum. Better yet, he should have called the police and also reported Juan's attempt on his life. This has gone too damned far already.

I think the abuse was sexual- that would explain why Miriam lost her Sh*T and why she tried to kill Damian, also, had the abuse been only mental and physical I believe Raquel would have told Mia and Fede- the fact that she tried to keep this from them leads me to believe that it was sexual abuse.

Urban not sure exactly what Miriam did to Damian. A friend once told me that he felt as a teenager that his mother became too close to him physically. While it was not overtly sexual it messed him up big time later in life especially in his dysfunctional relationships with women. His mother couldn't wait for the day when her husband and his father were gone so they could be closer which she repeatedly verbalized to her son.
More too the point: how did Raquel find out? Did Damian spill the beans to Raquel?

Count me in with Anon and Urban regarding Bebo's startling revelation to Juan that he is the baby's father. Why, Bebo, why? Even I understood that scene last night. I also agree Juan looked shocked but he will be back to his big brutish self in no time. He is obviously unbalanced and how he manages to keep his job is a joke.
Sandie, yes, good point. Juan may be so in orbit, he may want to get rid of Bebo even quicker.

She needed leverage when Mia went to live with Miriam. And I can't imagine that didn't make Raquel uncomfortable. But if she was saving it for a rainy day, this was certainly the time.

Diana--At the time Mia went to live with x-rated Granny, Mia was so against Raq that nothing Raq could say would change her mind. She was so full of hate for her mother. Mia would just say she was lying and stomp off.
Why Raq didn't say anything before hand? It could be that with Dam having come to some resolution regarding his mother, she kept the interaction with the kids at a minimum growing up. I can't see Mimi taking the kids to the zoo or a skating rink or the movies, even living in the same city.

If this was sexual abuse I think Raquel would conceal this from her children in order to protect them. What on earth could be worse than incestuous sexual abuse of the worst kind?
What is truly mystifying is why Damian still had to put up with her in the office. If he and Raquel rescued the business he should have given Mommy Direst the heave-ho. If he had done that and said "Go live in Spain or Miami [or wherever] and I will transfer money into your account X times a year. I'm shocked Miriam is backing away from keeping Benji. She was so sure of herself before. I guess she didn't know Raq knew about her abuse of Damian. If it was sexual, Damian should've been over the top incensed way back when Miriam barged in when he was having phone sex with Caro and she made a point of telling him she knew what he was up to.

Lola is no better off this way. In fact, it's going to get worse because now she will never be rid of this psycho. She needs to be far away from him. If he ends up dead that will be fine with me.
It doesn't matter whether Juan knows the baby is his or not or whether she carries the baby to term or not. Juan is going to be a thorn in Lola's side because she refuses to tell anyone about his abuse. Juan beating the baby out of Lola's belly was 100% guaranteed as long as he knew the baby was Bebo's. Now that he knows the baby is his, it's 50/50.

I have to wonder whether domestic violence is taken seriously by police. It wasn't taken seriously here for a long time; in a country infamous for machismo does anyone other than novela writers even see it as a problem?
As someone pointed out in a previous discussion, Lola will be stuck with Juan forever if she has this baby now that he knows it's his doing. He would sue for partial custody in order to continue to control her. His mother was no help in keeping him away from her and this can't get any better in view of how delusional she is about him.
In view of this Lola would be taking a huge risk that she would not be believed if she told the truth and reported him. There is always the question of why she allowed this to go on this long. Since this would become public information there are several people who would come out of the woodwork like Andres and Miguel who could seriously ruin her rep. And they would have a very willing accomplice in Laura.
All of this makes Santiago look worse, too.
