Papá a toda madre Wednesday 1/24/17 Capítulo 8: More is Not Necessarily Better When Less is Barely Tolerable--OR--A Mystery Shoe Box is Not Opened

At Jorge's house, Jorge takes Samuel’s tablet away from him. All technology is off limits for Samuel for a month unless he tells him who put the porn on his tablet. Any kind of homework he has to do on the internet will have to be done under Jorge’s supervision. Samuel asks if Jorge talks to his mom. Jorge stumbles as he always does with the truth: no, sometimes, maybe. She is very busy with the Carthusian nuns. She is okay and said she would be calling Samuel or writing him. She sends her regards. Samuel wants to know why she didn’t send him some hugs. She doesn’t love him anymore. Jorge tells him it is not like that. She still loves him. He asks for his tablet so he can send her a message. That is not happening but Jorge says it was a good try. He is being punished unless he puts things right or tells him who put the pornography on the tablet. Samuel is left to stew on his bed.

Renée is having dinner with Dr. Lupe at her place discussing her graduate school problem. He offers to help her with whatever he can with but he thinks that the only way for her to not to worry about her visa, her admission, or anything else is to apply for American citizenship. She agrees but now is not the time in her life for that. She turns and talks to the photo of her mother that has been set up with a candle like a little shrine. She asks her mom to give her a hand with the mess she is in. She promises to clean up her room and put everything she loved in order. Dr. Lupe just smiles as Renée tries to explain talking to her mother.

Mauricio is stopped by the officer. It is the same one who stopped Jorge in Capítulo 3. He asks Mauricio if he is not aware of the infraction that he has committed. Mauricio says no. Anifer, of course, says yes. Does Mauricio have nothing to say? Mauricio is trying to formulate his lie when the officer cuts him off and tells him that a child of Anifer’s age cannot be seated in the front and she doesn't even have a seatbelt on. Mauricio is so surprised with the identification of his infraction that he almost gives the shop lifting away but catches himself. Mauricio pleads ignorance. That is not going to fly with the office because all parents know that a child less than eleven cannot be in a front seat and let alone without a seat belt. Mauricio explains he has not been her father for that long and that it is a long story. The officer asks to see his drivers license and registration. The officer asks Anifer her name. She says Anifer Cruz. The officer notices that that is not Mauricio’s last name. He now wonders if Mauricio is a child abductor. Anifer starts to tell the officer that Mauricio did not steal her. She went looking for him. Mauricio says she just appeared out of nowhere like the Virgin of Guadalupe. Anifer insists Mauricio is her father. The officer ends up believing her. The officer asks him to do him a favor: give his daughter his last name because this way is not working. He could end up losing her and crying his eyes out. Mauricio mumbles he would be jumping up and down(from joy). The officer is not sure what he heard. Mauricio says he just told Anifer to jump in the back seat. The officer buys it. She jumps in the back seat but makes sure that Mauricio knows that she heard what he said.

Back at Jorge's house, Valentina is going through her mother Dulce's clothes when Jorge comes in. She wants to know what he is planning on doing with all of them. He is going to donate them. She asks if he is going to donate them to the benefit bazaar at her school. No, he is going to donate them to Logatoys that has a charity program where every year they donate all kinds of things to orphanages and other institutions. It is something that he started. She wants to know if she can keep a couple of things from her mother's wardrobe. The answer is no. She is not at an age to dress like that. What she can do is help him pack up all of the clothing.

Renée is researching jobs online and they all look terrible. Renée notices that she is starting to talk to herself as if she were another person. She tells her mother that the time has come to pack up her things.

Back at Jorge's, Valentina asks about Yuriria after finding a photo labeled “Jorge, Dulce and Yuriria.” She asks if that is the woman that he cheated on her mother with. He doesn’t know what she is talking about. Well, that is what her mother told her once. It must be her because there isn’t exactly a ton of “Yuririas” in the world. Jorge mumbles nothing is easy and shaking his head, he puts the photo in a drawer.

Mauricio and Anifer are back at their new home. There are tons of unpacked boxes but no microwave to heat their food in. Anifer reminds him that Renée has a microwave but he is so stubborn . . .

As Renée is going through her mother's things, she finds a shoebox and wonders what could be inside. Before she can find out, the door bell rings. She goes to answer the door and she finds Anifer who asks to use her microwave to heat up their cold dinner. Renée will gladly help her out. She asks where her father is. Anifer says he is afraid to come in. Just then, Mauricio pops in saying he is not afraid. He explains that the only reason they are there was because she said if they needed anything she was there. So, it is her fault. Renée makes it clear that only she and Anifer will be going into the kitchen and he is left to wait in the dining room. He doesn’t know what to do with himself. Renée didn't offer him a seat so he ends up leaving and shouting that he will be outside.

Jorge insists that he never cheated on Valentina’s mother with Yuriria or anybody else. Valentina asks him to explain the photo. It turns out that all three of them went to university together. He was Yuriria’s boyfriend and that is how he met her mother Dulce. Valentina wonders if he cheated on Yuriria with Dulce. He says no. They were young and things just happened naturally. The most important thing of it all was that he ended up marrying Dulce and then they had their children. That is what counts. Valentina still does not get why her mother was so sure that he cheated on her with Yuriria. He has no idea but is done talking about it because it is part of the past. It happened a long time ago. It is time to pack up Dulce’s things.

Mauricio and Anifer are back at their place with their warmed food but now have to find eating utensils. Anifer wants to know how they are supposed to eat. Mauricio suggests using their hands. They go looking for anything they can use. As he is looking, Mauricio runs into a folder of designs he drew for Logatoy. They were for a particular toy “the singing chicken”. Does Anifer remember seeing it at the store? She answers that it was the one that nobody bought. He thanks her for reminding him of his failure anytime that she can. She finds a child’s tea set. He refuses at first to use it, but then does. He thinks the food is just great with so much MSG! There is a knock at the door. Mauricio warns Anifer not to open the door because it could be the neighborhood killer. It is Renée bringing ANIFER (she makes that clear) a pillow and a blanket. René tells Mauricio there are no killers in their neighborhood. Renée is impressed that at least Mauricio knows how to play with the tea set. Mauricio tries to protest but Renée is already out the door.

That night, Mauricio goes to bed on the floor covering himself with newspapers. Anifer comes in with her teddy bear, pillow and blanket hoping to share it with him. She puts the pillow under his head and covers him with the blanket. She snuggles up next to him as he rolls over and steals the blanket leaving her out in the cold. Mauricio wakes up by himself the next morning hugging the teddy bear. He was dreaming he was in his scary house so he wants to go back to sleep so he can just maybe wake up in his penthouse. Anifer comes in and wakes him up so they can go to work. He asks what she means about "they". She tells him that she cannot stay all alone because she is just a little girl He accuses her of using the “little girl” excuse when she wants. Anyway, she is hungry. He doesn’t know why she cannot get used to just eating once a day. She is so demanding! Where was she brought up?

Verónica is busy feeding the three kids breakfast as Toño is busy on his laptop trying to find a wifi signal in the house. He tells her that he is planning on spending his curriculum vitae to a bunch of places. She has only filled out one application for one place. She wants him to agree to say nothing to the kids about their job situation. He agrees. He tells the kids to hurry up.

Mauricio is at work complaining about his situation to Fabián. He never knew that misery could be so . . . miserable. His place stinks and he cannot believe there is no cash for him. Fabián informs him that there is money but only for the basics. He needs furniture and to get all of the boxes out. He hopes that the money from the share sale to Falcón shows soon in their earning statement. Fabián is curious to where he left Anifer. Mauricio calls Gladys to find out. She tells him that, no, Anifer is not back from the cafeteria. She ate but Gladys did not. It is clear that Gladys is overwhelmed by doing her job and having to look after Anifer, too. Fabián says he should think about sending Anifer to school. Mauricio admits it is a good idea but where is he supposed to get the money for her tuition? Fabián informs him that school is not very expensive but before he sends her, he needs to get her papers in order. First, there is her birth certificate. Has he thought about giving her his last name?

Renée is at her place. Dr. Lupe has dropped by and she is on her way out. He just stopped by to see her because since last night he can’t stop thinking about her and that kiss. He walks closer to her and she backs away. She offers him coffee but he wants to know what is going on with them and if if she has thought about them sharing it all, in other words, living together in the USA. They could be sort of like roommates helping each other, dividing everything like the expenses so it would be cheaper. Just like he has told her before, he does not like the idea of her being alone. Renée really does not know what she wants to do. Everything that has happened has been so unexpected. He says he is not asking her for an answer now. He just wants her to think about it. Then they can talk about it. She agrees but does not look happy about it. They leave.

Mauricio hates the idea of Anifer “López“ Garza. He is not giving her his last name. Fabián thinks that the real reason that he does not want to give her his last name is because he is thinking of selling the company again. Jorge arrives. He has the papers about Falcón joining the company for them. Right now all that Mauricio wants to think about is a toy that will take Logatoys forward. Jorge starts talking about their charity drive. Fabián knows about it. Once a year Logatoys donates toys, clothing and food to charitable organizations. It started when don Bosco headed up the company. Mauricio goes ballistic. The company is in crisis and they are talking about giving toys away when they should be selling them. Jorge tries to explain that there are toys from old lots that didn’t sell. If it is any consolation, less and less institutions show up every year. Mauricio breaks into tears thinking about how Logatoys cannot even give their toys away.

Verónica is in a room with all men at the Inova Car company for an interview. She asks the receptionist for directions to the rest room. Because of that, she does not see her husband Toño leaving his interview at Inova Car company. He is talking to a buddy of his who is managing the interviews and has the inside scoop on the interview process. Toño should not have to wait very long. This is the last day for the interviews. Tomorrow they will be calling the semi-finalists back for a second interview. Toño will be awaiting their call. Verónica returns and talks to the same guy about her place in line for the interview. He mistakenly thinks that Verónica is there to interview for a secretarial position. She corrects him and tells him she is there for the systems engineer position. It is not her turn yet. She waits.

Renée is inquiring about a job also at Xela Outsourcing. She explains to a company rep that she has experience in designing electronic toys and in getting projects started. She is told that she can come back in the afternoon for an interview and to explain what she knows about mechatronics. She would like a few more guidelines so she can give them what they want. The rep does not see that as being important at all since they are a new company looking for young talent and value it. She might just be the one they are looking for.

Anifer wants to go home. She is bored being with Gladys. Mauricio does not know why not since Gladys is the "fun"at any party. He agrees that they will go home but first they are going to stop by the cafeteria to pick up a microwave. His phone rings and it is his friend Sebastián who is out partying. He is dancing his head off wondering where Mauricio is. It seems that there is a three day long party on the agenda. Sebastián suggests a babysitter. Looking at Gladys Mauricio says babysitter. . . and she melts from view.

Toño is blowing bubbles with the two youngest and wants to know how Verónica’s interview went. She says it was so so and doesn’t think that she got it. She is disappointed because it really seemed like a great job. He tells her not to worry that her place is there in her home with their children and her husband. Toño gets a phone call asking him to come back for a follow-up interview. Next, Verónica’s cellphone rings and he answers it because she is not around. It is a call asking her to come back for a second interview. He asks what company it is for. It is for Inova Car that just called him. Verónica asks who he is talking to. He says nobody. She asks again who was calling and he lies saying the call was from the bank wanting to offer them another credit card. She is suddenly interested saying that maybe it would be a good way to renegotiate their credit card debt and is not happy that he said nothing. He should have taken advantage of the offer. He tells her the bank will always be there and he is going to find a job. The kids leave with Verónica.

A nun from the Sacred Heart Orphanage stops by to see Gladys about Logatoys donating toys. She came by on the wrong day. The toy donations starts the day after tomorrow. The nun moans that if her kids don’t get the best ones they are going to be so sad. Gladys says no worries. The nun is going to leave her phone number so Gladys can call her as soon as the toys are available. Her name is Mother Queta Mina.

Renée is back for her job interview. She is having a successful time of it showing the interview team what she did at Logatoys: designing tools that optimized toy production. Everyone seems to be impressed. The head of the interview team lets her know that the decision to hire belongs to the new director. He is with the owner but he will be there soon. She reminds the team that the job will be only temporary for her. Too bad, so sad for Renée that the new director is her ex Alejandro who she left at the altar. He accuses her of being there just to finance her graduate studies in the USA. She disagrees. The discussion quicky disintegrates into discussing their past personal life. Alejandro says that nobody could ever trust some one who would put on that kind of performance at the church with their fiancé. Renée accuses him of being a liar for not telling her that what he really wanted in a wife was someone to take care of him not someone to really share his life with. Just for that reason, she never really was in love with him. The members of the interview team are visibly uncomfortable and one leaves. On Renée's way out, Alejandro tells her he is going to make it his business that she never works as an engineer anywhere again. She tells him that she didn't need him to do what she has done so far nor will she need him to find a job in the future or get her master's degree.

Jorge is back at Dulce’s law firm. He finally signs the divorce papers. The lawyers tell him it is good that he signed but they could have done the "express divorce" with or without him. They will return the papers to Dulce so she can sign them. Jorge also wants them to tell Dulce not to even think sbout coming by and visiting the kids as long as she is with that criminal. Jorge calls Yuriria. She does not answer. He does not leave a message.

Mauricio arrives home in his new old car. He gets a text from Sebastián while he is unloading the microwave and is unaware of his surroundings. Renée is looking at her phone and not watching where she is going and they literally bump into each other. René ends up on the ground. He drops the microwave. They have an extra long look at each other while Anifer smiles. Renée blames him for not looking where he is walking. He says it was her looking at her phone while she was walking that caused the crash. They begin to spar . . Dr. Lupe appears and Mauricio puts out his hand to shake it as he asks how he is. Mauricio supposes that he is Renée’s boyfriend. Dr. Lupe says he is. Renée disputes that. Dr. Lupe is concerned about how Renée is after the fall. She is just fine. Renée starts to introduce Mauricio who finishes his own introductions as Renée’s neighbor. Dr. Lupe knows exactly who he is and wants to know why he fired Renée. Renée stops him saying that the only one who has the right to ask Mauricio that question is her. She also points out that Anifer is waiting for her dad. She goes to and talks to Anifer and tells her that if she needs to heat something up to just feel free to come on over. She grabs Dr. Lupe’s arm and pulls him away so they can leave. Mauricio says they will have raw food and he’ll have to get another microwave. He tells Anifer to come inside. The microwave stays where it fell on the street.

Later at a restaurant, Dr. Lupe is on a jealous tirade acting like the possessive boyfriend that he supposedly isn't. He just does not understand how Renée can heat up the food for the guy that fired her from his company considering that she hates him. Renée tries to clarify the situation saying that she is helping out his daughter not him. She should not have to pay for wha her father did. Dr. Lupe does not understand that he is overstepping his bounds when he asks why? and Renée comes back with that she does not have to explain to him what she does. Dr. Lupe moves closer to her and grabs her hand saying that he just wanted to protect her from that guy. He apologizes. She says it is not about forgiving him for anything. It is all about them just barely starting to go out. She takes her hand back. They are not novios and even if they were, he has no right to be jealous, nobody does. He says she is 100% right and apologizes again with a great big smile. He doesn’t know what came over him. He also wants to take it slowly. He promises he will not ever say another word again about that. . . She cuts him off and says nobody has the right to ask him why she was fired like she was. She does not want to be treated as if she were a child. Nobody has the right to get involved in it all. He agrees he should not have asked that question. He just wants her to not think poorly of him because of what he did. He is just an "old fashioned guy" who wants to protect her. Will she forgive him? Renée sighs looking annoyed. She removes her hand from his again. She is leaving. She has had enough. She is gone.

Anífer and Mauricio are at home playing together. She does not know why they don’t go and get the microwave. Her mother says that you always have to recycle. Mauricio sees it as a total loss and somebody must have thrown it out by now. There is a knock at the door and it is Nerón. Nerón has come over to “talk” to Mauricio and settle his gripe about his retirement payout. Mauricio picks up a tennis racket to protect himself and holds it in front of him. Nerón keeps asking Mauricio to have Anifer go to her room so they can “talk” because he is going to not hold anything back. Mauricio wants to know what he has to complain about and blame him for. Nerón tells him it is about his retirement payout. Nerón asks Anifer nicely to please go to her room so he can talk with her father. Mauricio is still saying no as Anifer happily agrees and goes to her room. Nerón wants the money that is owed him. Mauricio says it has nothing to do with him. It is the macro-economy and the financial crisis that has affected the company, the country, the entire world. Nerón is not buying it. Nerón counters with is is the macro-economy his . . . mustache. The only right thing is for him to be given what is his due. Nerón says if Mauricio's father Don Bosco were still here he would have solved the problem right away. He would probably just up and die again seeing what Mauricio has done with the company. Don Bosco was a gentleman not like him. He swats at Mauricio who tells him to calm down still holding the tennis racket in front of him.

At Jorge's, Samuel is still moaning about not being able to be online. His father says later and reminds him about his punishment and asks him if he remembers what his sin was. Yes, he does. Samuel goes off to take a bath and change because he had physical education at school today. Jorge asks Valentina for the bills. She sees the invitation to his godparents 50th wedding anniversary. As Jorge is looking through the bills, he asks her why the water bill is so high. She says it is Samuel. He just shuts himself up in the bathroom since their mother left. She thinks he goes in there to cry. Jorge thinks about his son taking a bath and crying. The poor kid must really be missing his mother.

Dr. Lupe walks Renée home. She thanks him. He is still apologiazing. She sees the microwave left where it fell and cannot believe how stupid Mauricio was to just leave it there. She picks it up. Dr. Lupe tells her to just leave it. She does not want anyone to trip on it. She hands it to him. He says her new neighbor should have picked it up. She agrees but he didn’t. She thanks him and leaves him holding the microwave as she unlocks her door. She forgets about him completely but comes to get the microwave and gives him an air kiss and goes inside. Dr. Lupe is left smiling a sneaky smile looking over(or at)Mauricio's car.

Nerón makes it clear to Mauricio that he wants, no, he demands his entire retirement payout. Mauricio insists that he is not in charge of it and he advises him to go see his subordinates who are. He asks Nerón to leave his house and mentions his bodyguards. That sets Nerón off. He tells Mauricio that he will never stop being a little snob, a “junior” who thinks he deserves everything just because he is good looking. Mauricio asks why it is his fault that he was born good looking. He asks Nerón to leave. Nerón gets in his face and tells him he is going to make it his business that he has a real bad time on the cut-de-sac. He welcomes snobby little Mauricio to his sad reality. After Nerón leaves, he pauses on the street and eyes the right front tire on Mauricio's car(or Mauricio's car) with malicious intent.

Uni didn't give us much time at the very end to see Nerón really giving Mauricio's right front tire/ car the evil eye.

More mañana.

Jarifa, thank you for the recap.

Sketchy Fab and Party Animal Sebastian gave us some of our English lesson last night. I heard... I don't know ...they like a party..babysitter bro...just a second....how are you?...raw food...stay.

One of my least favorite colors along with brown is orange, but RUlli looked good in that bright orange pullover sweater. He could be a model.

Loved the title...especially the first part. No, make that the whole thing, because the last part was a teaser and made you want to read the recap. Great job Jarifa.

Will watch this later, but after defending Toño yesterday, I now need to hurl my patio chair away from his table. Far far away. Crappy move to lie about the call back for a job interview. To anybody. But especially to your spouse!

One of my favorite pieces of advice about marriage is "Out of all the billions of people in the world, you have chosen this one person to do your very best with." That kind of egregious lie is nobody's "very best". Toño, you're cute and funny, and I've always liked short guys, but it's over between us!

Thanks Jarifa. So glad you have jumped on board to help recap this one with Alfredo and RGV Chick. Terrific team. Fun patio. And Lurkers, please join in. The more the merrier.

Thank You mucho Jarifa. A fun episode, and a fun recap to boot.

So Renee had on another pleather jacket---black today or maybe very dark green. Is that jacket a chameleon or does wardrobe have one in every imaginable color?
I agree she should have had puppy neutered
That one bowl of kibbles and bits, he thinks he is hers
Or it was that one little muzzle nuzzle
Loopy is getting ready to go back to the pound...............
Loopy, it doesn't matter how many fire hydrants you've peed on, the Alpha is in tha 'hood now.

Renee is cruising through her interview and seems to have it wrapped up until in walks FRANCISCO ! ! ! Not really, but he could be his twin.

Tono just showed you all why I don't trust short guys. Thanks JudtB

Not as many E-bombs in this one.
Loopy OK
Mau sorry pal
how are you
stay stay

I even tried to correct JudtB, but it didn't stick, sorry JudyB

Susanlynn, Rulli looks good in almost anything, don’t you think? Too funny.

JudyB, I love the novela comedies and was so happy that we actually have a recapping team of more than one or two recappers to cover this one. It has been a long time. I was trying to look at Toño with kinder eyes eventhough he always seemed to be doing nothing at home as Verónica was overwhelmed by the kids but after lying to her about the phone call, he is just another jerky guy in the novela. Yes, it would be nice if more lurkers turned into commenters. I didn’t last long as a lurker knowing I could post my “opinion”. Wow! ; )

Very funny, Kirby: “the Alpha is in the hood now”. Very funny “doggie” comments. I wonder how long until Renée kicks him to the curb. Soon? If we are lucky?

I wonder if Dr. Lupe and Nerón are going to do something to Mauricio’s old new car. They sure made it look that way.

. . . and what about the “mystery” shoe box? You know, they never just show something without a reason. Maybe Catalina was really a secret millionaire and the box is loaded with pesos . . . Just guessing . . ,

Good ear for the English lesson Susanlynn, I must not have been paying attention.
And yes, I must begrudgingly admit, Rulli is one helluva good looking guy. There is no way to tell how much of it is acting and how much of it might possibly be real, but he and Anifer are just dynomite. Sitting on the floor with the kid tea set was the best. And when Little Bit brought in her pillow and blanket to share was beyond priceless. Newspaper?

Mauricio has zero life skills. I mean NONE. Absolutely nothing, zero.. Not being catty, but the man is completely worthless. Were it not for his inheritance and the charity of others he would probably starve to death.

And what was Jorge doing still having Yuiria's phone number? She was his GF before his mid-teen daughter was born, right? She's had the same number for 17 years? Then she doesn't have T-Mobile.

OT: Hey Goat Girl, have you seen the Intuit TurboTax 'Chupacabra' commercial? It is funny, but the strangest commercial for tax advice I have ever seen. I can not remember ever seeing it on a Gringo station either.

Good point about Yuriria’s number. It seemed way too easy for him to just call her. . .

And Tono and that stupid laptop are wearing me out too. I am surprised he hasn't dropped it by now walking around holding it like it is his phone. Is he surfing Caray-Caray all day?

One more thing. It has to be significant about the water bill and Samuel staying in the bathroom so long. I have my suspicions, seeing how this show is going so far and the reason his tablet has been taken.

Later

Jarifa: Good job.

Jarifa - Thank you for your recap!

I was wondering how Mau and Renee would end up in regular close contact as the plot propeller, and now we know. #telenovelatrope a la Silvana Sin Lana

"Mauricio has zero life skills. I mean NONE. Absolutely nothing, zero.. Not being catty, but the man is completely worthless. Were it not for his inheritance and the charity of others he would probably starve to death."
Sad but true.

I haven't even watched this episode yet and have a lot to say about it:

1. Telenovela beanie hats are a must, with chin strap engaged.

2. Cynthia Hampton - re your last comment from day before --- " Mauricio should be asking for financial statements and an audit! "
ITA. But ..... I am FedEx-ing you a telenovela beanie hat on the overnight express.

3. If Renee is going to a university in the U.S., doesn't she need to take the TOEFL test, apply to uni and wait for a acceptance response, and hope her TOEFL score meets the uni's requirement? Um, hel-lo?!?

4. If Renee is go apply for U.S. citizenship, she has to live in the U.S. for a few years first.

5. If Jorge's kids miss their mom so much, why haven't they already used their cell phones to call or text her?

Um... I'm looking for my telenovela beanie hat right now. It might need to be lined with aluminum foil, too.
https://zapatopi.net/afdb/testimonials.html in case you need to know. (LOL)

Dulce doesn't answer any of their calls or texts.

Thank you, Jarifa.

In the accident between Mauricio and Renee he was standing with his back to her and she bumped into him, causing property damage. In car insurance terms this accident is Renee's fault. She needs to pay any bodily injury and property damage claims. She acted like it was Mau's fault.

I like Valentina. She has been smart, understanding, well behaved. Jorge is so distant, just giving commands. There were opportunities for him to get closer to her. Both would benefit.

Jarifa, this was wonderful. Thoughtful, analytical, insightful and wonderful humor.

"He welcomes snobby little Mauricio to his sad reality" was my hands down favorite line although "After Nerón leaves, he pauses on the street and eyes the right front tire on Mauricio's car(or Mauricio's car) with malicious intent" was a close runner up.

"Samuel wants to know why she didn’t send him some hugs. She doesn’t love him anymore" brings tears. Isn't the most important thing to continue to be interwoven in the fabric of your children's lives? How could she leave, without any calls, any assurances of love and the importance of their well being. Why is it that only Samuel's heart is aching?

"He doesn’t know why she cannot get used to just eating once a day. She is so demanding! Where was she brought up?" OMG. Sheer stupidity.

"They could be sort of like roommates helping each other, dividing everything like the expenses so it would be cheaper". Yes, of course Renee. Having a man who is clearly in love with you as a roommate is a splendid idea.

"Alejandro tells her he is going to make it his business that she never works as an engineer anywhere again". Bitter. Loved her reply.

Kirby, agree Anifer and Mo have the best couple chemistry. Totally! They are the best...although zero life skills is so true!

And Tono? "I now need to hurl my patio chair away from his table" had me laughing Judy. No need to add anything - I totally agree and think last night's drinks are spilled all over his empty table.

Diana

doris, I think the aluminum lined beanies are going to be needed for this one. There is just too much . . .

Lucio, welcome and what an excellent analysis of the “accident” complete with bodily injury and property damage. I love it!

Diana, so far Nerón seems to the best husband material in the cul-de-sac. A little insensitive on occasion but basically a good guy. Maybe he learned his lessons in his first marriage.

Lucio...yes, poor Valentina does not seem to have had a close relationship with her mother or her father! Perhaps Samuel was notveryDUlce's favorite! I once had a student who felt very badly that I had only girls. She had two boys and a girl , and she told me who her favorite child was...it was the older son. I couldn't believe it. Dulce seems like a pretty hard, cold soul to me.

This story seems to be turning into a man vs woman tale with most of the men trying to keep the women in their places...which is not in the workplace. Barefoot? Pregnant? In the cave?

The concept of the beanie has been at CAray for a long time. It is our term for the tinhat theory. I cannot remember who coined the term, but I think that one of our lovely members actually knit beanies for some of the folks here. I think that it was Mike's wife... the couple who did a lot of train travel. Perhaps judyb is wearing one right now. They would come in handy this winter.

Good Morning, Patio Peeps!! Jarifa, what a wonderfully written recap you have graced us with, thank you!!

Diana has already mentioned all the good lines, so ditto to her all her comment.

Kirby, you mentioned my favorite scenes: "Sitting on the floor with the kid tea set was the best. And when Little Bit brought in her pillow and blanket to share was beyond priceless. Newspaper?" I absolutely luuurved those scenes; and when Mau turned over taking the whole blanket, Ani huffed---that reminded me so much Shirley Temple's huffs...too cute! And "in walks FRANCISCO ! ! ! Not really, but he could be his twin." I had to look twice to make sure it wasn't the Cyst!

JudyB, "Crappy move to lie about the call back for a job interview." I'm in line with my chair!

Jarifa, "I wonder if Dr. Lupe and Nerón are going to do something to Mauricio’s old new car. They sure made it look that way." Neron for sure had that thought; and when Loopy gave a look, at first I thought he had the same idea, but then I wondered if he wasn't smiling because Renee gave him a kiss and he might be feeling more confident.

Neron threw in some English bombs too! He said, "Junior" and "welcome." Sebastian also used "VIP"

OT-Kirby, yes, I have seen the Intuit TurboTax 'Chupacabra' commercial! That kid looks (and sounds) exactly like one of mine!!

Susy, "This story seems to be turning into a man vs woman tale with most of the men trying to keep the women in their places...which is not in the workplace. Barefoot? Pregnant? In the cave?" I must agree with you. I just loved the way Renee turned on Loopy and told him to lay off.

Doris, I think Loopy brought up US citizenship for only one reason---to get Renee to marry him.

Lucio, nice to see you here! I like Valentina too, but I'm wondering if she is too good to be true. She has been very patient and cooperative up to now. I hopeo she continues that way and doesn't have some "alt" ego that is lurking in the shadows.

Kirby, " It has to be significant about the water bill and Samuel staying in the bathroom so long. " ITA but I don't want to let my mind wander too far out there :-)

Susanlynn, on the beanies, it might well have been Emilia. What a nice couple. They are missed!

RgvChick and Kirby OT. I don't understand that Turbo Tax commercial. Is he spiriting one of the "kids" away? I hope I am not understanding that correctly!

Jarifa, I have to sadly agree that Nerón does seem to the best husband material. Slim pickings if our choice is someone who hides the fact he is in love and has a baby but doesn't introduce them to his sons. I'm seeing a lot of progress in Jorge. We need to have some hope, right? :)

Diana

Yikes. The patio is on steroids this morning.

Loopy is acting like a dog after a bitch in heat and he wants her to move in with him?
There is not a word to describe how poor an idea that would be. Well, maybe TWO words...Solitary Confinement.

'Water Bill' ? They wouldn't, ..............would they?

That chupacabra seems genuinely affectionate and gentle with his TASTY Goat. :-)
Nice Pic RGV. It doesn't appear to be a rose, hibiscus or orchid, so what is it?

Valentina does seem like a nice little, not so little anymore, girl. The only thing that concerns me is she is her Mother's daughter. But who knows how he used to be, but now, Jorge is a frigging Jerk, to be gentle. As RGV Chik mentioned, this is looking like a Sharp Women vs Doofus Men story. The women are winning, because the men's team didn't even show up and just sent their mascot, Mauri.

OT- Diana, my interpretation of the commercial is that even kids don't need to fear the monster...and (in my mind) that monster is taking the kid back to its tribe.

I suspect it goes something like "The chupacabra got him, but at least his taxes are free, since the kid used TurboTax."

Kirby, that is the bloom from a silk floss tree

Ooohh! I just noticed you changed your avatar, Kirby. Nice pic, luurve the wingspan!

RGV I just came back and downloaded that one out of the camera. She flew right over me. It was cold and no light though (cloudy) so I came back home.

I initially thought she was carrying food for the chicks, but it appears to be just a 'wild' feather sticking up back there at about 1 o'clock near her talons.

Well, it's in the mid 50's in the RGV and quite cloudy too...good day to just watch old movies and sip hot chocolate...if I didn't have chores teehee :-)

BTW, JudyB, Cynthia H will be joining the team starting this coming Friday, YAY!!

Oh wow, nice close-up! Is that a feather sticking up or a twig?

Nope, I don't want to think too much about Samuel and the water bill, either.

Susanlynn, thanks for telling us the history behind the beanies. This patio is ever changing. So many regulars have disappeared in the last five years since I have been around.

RgvChick, it was so hard telling what Dr. Lupe was thinking about in that last scene. I don't trust him. We are going to hit about 50 here today. A piece of ice just dropped off the front of my car, the sun is shining and the birds are chirping. Good luck on finishing your chores early.

Thanks Jarifa!!!

Jorge is very un-affectionate with the kids. I don't think I've seen him hug or kiss them. But for Dulce not to stay in touch with them is too much. She has basically abandoned kids that desperately need her. Jorge needs to start stepping up and being a more loving dad.

ITA Mau has no life skills. The tea set scene was adorbs.

Lupe is becoming too pushy. Starting not to like him.

Shame on Tono for not telling Vero about the callback. If she finds out, he will have hell to pay.

I think it is just a feather. I had hoped it was something's tail, but no such luck.

Loopy was a jerk when they had the microwave incident. Baring his teeth and lifting his hackles like that was completely wasted on Mauricio. I hopeo Renee took note. "Bad Dog"

Though I'm not real keen on teaching kids to shoplift, I must admit it was cute. Did they ever unearth any silverware? I did not see any. If he would get off his ass and start unpacking some of those boxes, he would probably find everything a household needs. They are not camping there for the weekend, this is your new life Mauricio. But then there would be no excuse to keep trooping over to Renee's.

Carvivlie: ". . . he wil have hell to pay": as he should!! : )

Kirby, so I wasn't the only one looking for the silverware.

Has anyone ever noticed that when the telenovela characters move they never seem to take furniture but only their "stuff" and clothes? Have I missed something? or just have watched the wrong novela?.

Beautiful avatars!

"TASTY Goat"?? Umm, I think I will go with Rgv's take that the "kid" is going back to his tribe. Yikes.

Carvivlie and Jarifa, initially I thought Lupe was very nice. But he got a jealous attitude quickly and kind of morphed into someone I'd never want to date overnight.

Diana

Jarifa I have been chuckling about that for --- ever. In Vino when Luci was moving back to Mexico she had a pull-along that would fit in the overhead. In RaMoon, Fabi left home to move in with Ramon and had the same bag in a different color. (The girls who have moved in with or out from living with me were thankful I had a truck).

In Ramoon when Margarita got her own place the first day it was completely decorated and furnished. When I have moved it involved an eighteen wheeler and a 'crew'.

RThere was this discussion about eating, and he told Anifer they would just have to use their hands, as best as I could tell. That was before she found the good china. :-)

I don't think Mau and Anifer will find any household items in that house. Jorge told Mau that his father used it as a warehouse for outdated toys and the like...never a home.

Jarifa, I was really shocked that Mau would tell Ani to use her fingers to eat...he doesn't seem like one that would tolerate using his fingers to eat, unless it was actually a finger food. OTOH, he covered himself with newspapers so maybe he is trying to play into his new "homeless" role.

So what is in the "mystery box?' Money? A will? Letters to/from Renee's father? Does she know who her father is? I don't recall any mention of him.

OT: Diana this year Intuit has a whole series of commercials themed something to the effect that "Things you think are scary shouldn't be, especially TAXES." So RGV is, not surprisingly, right, in that the kid should not be afraid of the Chupacabra, like we should not be afraid of our taxes, if we have TurboTax.

I do not work for Intuit LLC, or any of their subsidiaries and any comments here are strictly my personal opinion.

kj

:-)

The only mention, and not really of him, was her Mom telling her she was a single Mom with her, and she made it alright.

Kirby, it sort of gives you the feeling that all apartments and homes are rented/sold furnished . . .Just weird. My moves have always been "truck worthy."

RgvChick, I wonder when she is going to get around to remembering it/ opening it. It did call her attention. If I found a "mystery box" like that, I would have made the person knocking at the door wait and opened it on the spot. I am hoping for lots of money but that is probably too simplistic for the plot.

I think the plot shoebox has something, like pictures, or letters to him when he was in the war, of Renee's Father.

Let's see, do we have a nice, stable older couple. No. Hmm..... a priest? Well we had a couple, but their services were short lived.

We have the TV family, but he has already told her a massive, colossal lie. He didn't lie about eating the last Leggo My Eggo, he lied about a job when neither of them have one.

We have Neuron, and Flor. But they seem to have their hands too full already to be role models.

No other candidates ?

maybe letters FROM him :-(

Jarifa, thank you for doing a great job with this episode, as always.

And your comment, "Nerón seems to the best husband material in the cul-de-sac" says a lot about the neighborhood.

Wow! There really are a lot of comments today, which is really nice. I'm learning all sorts of things here, about chupacabras, checking the water bill, etc.

:-)

Love the avatars today and all the happy chat. Kirby and RGV Chick, yep, I thought the same thing about the water usage, but didn't want to say anything. So just forget I said anything!

The jokes about telenovela Minimalist Moving made me laugh. Our first-born was, and remains, someone who needs and has lots of stuff. We had to rent a UHaul just to take her to college. Fortunately with our other two, only a car sufficed.

And is it my age, or did anybody else go through the hollow core door with legs screwed in as their first coffee table after the first job apartment move? Tried to give it a bar top finish. But then my next foray into nesting, trying to sand and refinish the floor did not go well. Still, it was good that I tried.

And yeah, saludos to Emilia. She knit a number of lovely hats and even traveled around passing some of them off in person. Mine was a very pretty aqua color.

Andy, it sure is slim pickin’s in the cul-de-sac. Btw, you always have to on the lookout for those chupacabras.

Yup that durn chup has gone mainstream now and is on National TV.

chupa portrait

JudyB When I got married, I still had concrete block and unfinished plank shelves for the stereo.

I just burst out laughing at the chupa. Thank you Kirby!

I lived in apartments with roommates for many years. I lucked out as they had the furniture. When we would move, everything fit nicely in my car.

When I got married, I had a very old mattress, a wobbly, old kitchen table and (2) chairs, a decrepit sofa and very little else. But it built character! I guess I must have had silverware 'cause I don't recall having to eat with my hands :)

What a fun patio we have! Right now, the Anifer and Milady's tables are getting crowded. Tono's table is in shambles but Renee and Veronica are keeping their crowd. :)

Diana

Thanks, Jarifa.

She asks where her father is. Anifer says he is afraid to come in. Just then, Mauricio pops in saying he is not afraid. He explains that the only reason they are there was because she said if they needed anything she was there. So, it is her fault.

Loved that scene. Anifer standing up for herself and Mauricio taking it.

Mauricio admits it is a good idea but where is he supposed to get the money for her tuition?

So public school is out of the question?

A nun from the Sacred Heart Orphanage stops by to see Gladys about Logatoys donating toys.

This nun is suspicious to me. She’s wearing more makeup than I’ve ever seen on a nun.

Anifer could charge admission to her table.

"Renee standing up for herself..."

Niecie, the nun scene was very odd. Besides all of the makeup, she was worried about getting first dibs on the toys? Funny.

Loving the "off topic". Yes, we had the concrete blocks and unfinished planks, though it was for our bookshelves, and we still had them when we moved in '87, when we were both in our late forties. But by then they had migrated to the basement. But the early apartment when I was single was easy, one leftover bed from my parents' home. Check. One couch and a Lane coffee table (my kids are still using it). Check. That plus the hollow core desk table was all I needed as a young French college prof. In the kitchen, a few utensils and a electric fry pan. Happy days.

Wow..i had a busy morning including skyping with our older daughter for an hour and a half. I just got back to the patio.

Kirby and Chickie...great new avatars

Kirby..the trend continues here...no strong married couple. There is a priest, but he isn't offering he!p.

Gee, we he only lived in two places since we got married..an apartment in a row home in a nearby city. We lived there for two years while building a house on my family's farm. We had the middle apartment . Be!ow us was an old couple and above us was an old woman in a wheel chair. We had my inlaws old bedroom suite and a solid wooden blond table and six chairs that was a hand me down from their rich friends ..we still have it in our family room. They do not make anything that sturdy these days. Hubba made a shelf unit for our tiny tv to fit an alcove in our tiny living room. It is also in our family room. Hey, he made it with his own two hands!!! I am sentimental. He had to saw off part of it to fit in the big TV he bought a few years ago!

Thank you, Jarifa! I especially appreciate your excellent recap as I was at a meeting last night and couldn't see the episode. In fact, I have been swamped with work all week and hence not able to pay as much attention to Caray caray as usual. I see that Dr. Lupe has now disqualified himself as husband material. Just as well to find out now rather than wait for another trip to the altar. I was a bit surprised in the last couple of episodes that FAbián didn't see that Mauricio and Anifer didn't at least have basic food supplies in d. Bosco's old house. I can understand his being resentful of all the problem Mau has put him and the company through, but Anifer is only 7!

Another hint that Fabian is not the good "hermano" he pretends to be. And ditto the suspicious nun. Way too much make-up and why call her cellphone rather than the convent. Muy sospechoso.

Enjoyed the tales of early days. The less we had, the happier we seemed. But maybe that was just youth. But hoping that Mauricio will find that a simple house becomes a happy home when shared with the right woman and the right munchkin. I'm sure that's where the plotline is headed.

Maybe Frabian is actually a Frenemy, SpanProf, as you make a good point. You would have thought he could have done better with the car too. I noticed it doesn't even have leather. Of course any normal guy would go out and buy his OWN CAR.

SpanProf, what a bummer when the real world interrupts our novela fun! I didn’t think so at first but now am joining the belief that Fabián is not the friend he pretends to be. Unfortunately, Mauricio is too self-absorbed to even notice.

I just hope the MYSTERY SHOEBOX does not turn out to be like the MYSTERY CELLPHONE in VIno...which was nothing. Or that it is not PAndora's shoebox. I just found a shoebox full of old photos, mostly the daughters' old beaus. They will probably want me to burn them.

Aaawwwww, hubby had the concrete block/unfinished wood plank shelves, too, when we married. So very 1970s! LOL Both hubby’s apt. and mine were furnished with 2nd hand stuff. Hence, the first home was all 2nd hand stuff.

Then there were the cars. OMG ..... When we married he was driving an Opel GT that was a money pit, then a used Honda Civic that always stalled out when it rained, then a Chevrolet Monza that had previously been wrecked (we knew that) when the seller ran into a bull that crossed into the road. (well, the bull was black and it was nighttime, possibly impaired vision on the driver's part). All unfortunate choices but within our budget. When the oil gasket$ or ring$ needed to be replaced on the Monza, I insisted he go buy a new car with warranty. (He did.)
Ah, memories . . .

re: Mau’s new car --- Has the patio determined what make it is? I noticed the upholstery was not leather, either, but a moth-eaten velour or velvet. Up until that point, I was guessing it was some sort of ancient beater BMW. Did BMWs ever have fabric seats in Mexico?

Niecie – good call on the nun with heavy makeup!

Fab is still wearing those flood pants. What's up with that? (cue the SNL skit.....)

Years ago, back when Ferro was recapping, there was some mysterious green box which turned out to be a big disappointment once the contents were revealed (after about a bazillion episodes). All I remember was there was a cave and a German Shepherd, some hulking simpleton and Ana Martin played some sort of curandera living in said cave.

While these male characters are acting like idiots, probably most of them (there will have to be one slacker/loser/lost cause, right?) will turn themselves around, redeem themselves, whatever, and become Superdads, as the title says. Mau will probably lead the pack, of course.

I believe it is a VW Rabbit.

Flood Pants: I have NO idea what's up with that. The high waters do not usually denote untrustworthyness, usually just that you wear stuff right 'off the rack'.

You are right Susy. That friggin shoebox better have some dam special shit in it or there is gonna be big trouble, even if I do wind up living on Doritos for the rest of the TN,

A VW Rabbit would be more likely for a guy with his ... ahem ... budget.

Kirby: What's going on with you man ?

Doris: Mauricio still trying to be a Dad ?

just kidding around steve

Hubba still misses his first car...a white Mustang. He keeps telling me that should be my next car and I can pick the co!or.

Judy..was that the glowing green box that Ana Martin kept in the cave?

Whoops..I did not finish your comment before mg question!!! Sorry. Was PabloMontero in that one?Sy!via liked the so!died named Frank . That actor went on to be in many tns.Remember the dancer that she and I loved ? We a!so watched her on Bailando.

Susan GNU, as in free software foundation LINUX?

Thank you so much, Jarifa! I keep missing this one so the recaps are greatly appreciated.

I'm so happy I didn't have to see Lupe slobbering all over Renee again. She shouldn't have kissed him but she should now keep her distance, if she's not interested, because this is going to get seriously annoying (or dangerous) in the future. Alejandro's actions further cement the fact that he was not the right man, period. What a petty, measly man. Grow up!

As for Jorge, did he never have sexual thoughts growing up? He's making Samuel feel shame for something that is cpmpletely normal and that's not right. I wonder if he always associated sex with cheating? His father, godfather and himself cheated so it could be. I want to know more about Yuriria because Jorge cheating seems so out of character.

Mauricio is another annoying one. Just let people help you, dude. And I don't mean your friend who gave you a rust bucket, but those who seem to care. Also, who would buy his ugly toys? Donate it to someone who would enjoy it.

I'm dying to see Veronica get the job over Tono. I'm all for him being the sole breadwinner, and I agree some the reasons some of you gave were valid, but this is very childish and mean. Give her a shot, she may surprise you.

Doris, it was Duelo de Pasiones.

Pablo Montero was the galan and Ludwika Paleta was the protagonista. Sergio Goyri played her father, who was insanely jealous, and kidnapped Ludwika and her mother, played by Erika Buenfil, because he thought the mother cheated (mistaken letter delivery) and Ludwika was not his daughter. After about 120 episodes (around 6 months) turns out the contents of the green box was a letter revealing that her Goyri's mother had not cheated and it was all a misunderstanding (at least what I remember. I remember being really disappointed as well. That novela hinged on too many dumb actions that could've been easily resolved. Urban did a post a few years back saying that novela would've worked better in the 19th or early 20th century than in modern times. I agree because some of it was ridiculous.

Oh, and they made Pablo Montero believe Ludwika was dead and when he saw her two years later, she looked exactly the same, but he believed she was a forest girl that lived in the woods with Ana Martin. At least cut the girl's hair, dye it, dress her up as boy, cover her face, make him blind. Something!

Kirby...gnu...I do not know ..you will have to ask this fire tab!et that I hate so much.

Alfredo, you have a great memory. I forgot about Erika lugging around that big suitcase.

Yeah, those uptight guys like Jorge are the ones you have to watch.

I remember she was trying to escape but she was dragging that suitcase all around the stone steps of their ranch out. *shakes head* lol

Glad we revisited crazy old Duelo. If you're having a bad day (I just found out that my sister has Alzheimer's) then go back and read some of Sylvia Sharkbait's (then only known as Sylvia) recaps of that ridiculous show. Or Ferro's. It's what I do when I have the blues. Or else I go back to some of Cynderella's recaps of Hasta Whatever. Will lift your spirits. Temporarily.

So sorry to hear about your sister. That news would make anybody’s day bad. Sílvia Sharkbait! Wow! It has been a while since we heard from her.

Judy...must read your last comment. So sorry. You and your sister will be in my thoughts and prayers.

Very tough news Susanlynn. And so little we can do. Except pray. So thank you.
