At Renée’s home, Renée chides Mau for leaving Anifer alone. Mau wants
her to stop scolding him since it was an emergency…a social emergency. When Mau goes to check on Anifer who is asleep on the couch, he touches her
forehead and feels that she is quite warm. When Renée checks Anifer, she gasps
and tells Mau that Anifer is very hot and has a fever. Mau immediately brushes
off the blame from himself and asks Renée what she gave Anifer for dinner. Renée
can’t believe Mau could be serious since Anifer came knocking at her door in
the middle of the night because he left her alone. Mau takes his big foot out
of his mouth and apologizes to Renée…he doesn’t know what he is saying (uh-huh!
You just had an epiphany?).
When he stutters as he asks what they should do, Renée
tells him to use his common sense (did she see pigs flying?)
As Jorge drives up to the school, Valentina complains
that she doesn’t want to go to school. Before they get out, Jorge reminds them
to stay after school for the religious orientation classes with Father
Cutberto. As Jorge hesitates to leave because he forgot to give the kids his
blessing, he watches as Samuel starts talking to some boys and wonders if they
may be the culprits that tainted his son (Jorge, are they between eight and
eighteen? OK).
At Renée’s house, Dr. Loopy has checked Anifer and tells
Mau and Renée that the cold compresses will help Anifer. He gives Renée a
prescription and tells her that if the fever doesn’t go down, she should take
Anifer to the hospital. Mau asks Dr. Loopy what is wrong with Anifer…and he
wants the truth as to how much longer Anifer has to live (longer than you if
you keep this up). When Dr. Loopy tells Mau that Anifer has gastritis and asks
what she has been eating, Mau responds that she has been eating the best from
the supermarket—packaged soups, frozen foods, canned vegetables…and frozen
treats, lots of frozen treats. Dr. Loopy explains that if Anifer eats such
trash, she could end up malnourished, get diabetes or a multitude of other
problems. When he tells Mau to nourish Anifer the way she should be nourished,
Mau turns to Renée to make sure she was listening. Dr. Loopy then tells Mau
that Anifer needs to improve within a couple of hours and he will write down
what Anifer should and shouldn’t eat; his directions need to be followed to the
letter…and Mau had better keep an eye on her. When Renée notices how coldly Dr.
Loopy is talking to Mau and asks if he’s upset about something, Dr. Loopy
hesitates but then blurts out that he gets upset when parents don’t take good
care of their children. Mau agrees…it upsets him too! (Duck,
Mau! That was close where it went right over your head!)
At the school, Jorge talks to Father Cutberto who thinks
that Jorge might have caught Samuel looking at pornographic material, but Jorge
clarifies that he would like to discuss something else—his marriage that is
going through a crisis. Father Cutberto comments that when a wife and husband each
do their part, they can overcome anything. Jorge wonders what happens when they
both do their part and God doesn’t do them the favor of helping them. Father
Cutberto responds that they must make the sacrifice of tolerating the situation
for the sake of the marriage…do anything before considering a separation… or
even worse, a divorce! Jorge clears his throat and quickly changes the subject,
he is actually there to ask that Father Cutberto talk to Samuel’s teachers and
ask them to keep an eye on Samuel; he suspects that some students are bullying
Samuel...and the students could be a bad influence. Just then, Father Cutberto
gets a call from the archbishop and asks Jorge if there is anything else he
needs; so Jorge tells him that is all and leaves as Father Cutberto tells him
to go with God…because he really needs it. (So do we Our Father, if we have 87
more episodes with Jorge?)
At Mau’s house, Mau tells Anifer that she gave him a good
scare, but Anifer rebuts that he gave her a good scare too and demands to know
why he left her all alone. Mau tries to explain that adults sometimes have
physiological needs that have to be fulfilled, but Anifer reminds him that she
told him not to leave her alone and asks him to promise that he will never
leave her alone again. Mau, however, doesn’t think she is in a position to
demand anything from him…she appeared out of nowhere. When he continues that he
is “sorry” but he had a life, a fiancée, a yacht…Anifer interrupts and tells
him that she, too, was happy with her mother. Mau is affected and thinks Anifer
is not being fair…she’s playing dirty; so he backs off and tells Anifer that he
will write to her mother. When Anifer asks if they can call her mother through
the computer, Mau explains that they would first need to know when her mother
would be able to talk; he reminds Anifer that her mother needs to be very
careful because of her job, but promises that when Anifer is 100% better, they
will call her mother. Anifer claps in delight. Mau starts to leave but then
returns because he almost forgot…to give her a kiss…(Mau, one kiss could erase
a lie the size of Mexico in Robo, but this is....)
[Mexican Version: After Mau leaves, he gets a call from
Fabian who wonders if he is on his way to the office, but Mau tells him he
can’t go in because Anifer is ill; he will have to work from “home office.”
Fabian grunts in agitation and tells Mau that there are thousands of things
that need to be done, but then agrees to send some correspondence and documents
that need to be signed with Gladys. Mau is not pleased at the thought of Gladys
coming over.]
[Mexican Version: At Veronica’s house, Veronica explains
to Toño, who seems to be more interested in his laptop, how to do the laundry.
She thinks he’s not listening so she tests him by asking how he would wash
certain clothes…for her own peace of mind. Toño's responses are not good enough
to appease Veronica. (Is he good at anything besides watching YouTube?)]
At Logatoys, (Leopoldo) Falcón is using his laptop at
Gladys’s work station when Jorge arrives and clears his throat to get Falcón’s
attention. When he finally gets his attention, Jorge explains that he wants to
discuss the new hirings that are being made. When he tells Falcón that he has
studied the documentation, Leopoldo interrupts and tells him he already knows
that some former employees have complained. It doesn’t make sense to Jorge that
new people are being hired; though they are being hired at a lower salary, it
will still require extra funds that have to be spent. Falcón responds that part
of his investment was meant especially for that purpose. When Jorge starts to
explain his concern about Falcón’s investment, Leopoldo suddenly doesn’t have
time for discussions. (It's called the Jorge effect...See 'Dulce' previously.) After Falcón leaves, Fabian walks into the lobby, so
Jorge asks if he knows anything about the other businesses that Falcón may
have. When Fabian thinks they may have to do with construction or
communication, Jorge points out that they know practically nothing about where
Falcón’s money is coming from. Gladys listens with her trademark open mouth and
asks “How’s that?”
At Mau’s house, Mau is thinking as he rocks on his horsy
when Renée arrives with “real” food for Anifer. When she asks where Mau left
Ani, he wonders if she thinks he has virtual or fantasy food, so Renée comments
that he is giving Ani junk food which is worse. When Mau notices the small bag
Renée is carrying he worries that it won’t be enough for him and Ani; so Renée
makes it clear that she cooked for Anifer…he can eat whatever the heck he
wants. Mau backs off and admits he has no idea how to take care of a sick
person. Renée asks if he has taken Ani’s temperature; and Mau, of course has
taken it…he used his fingers and checked various places on Anifer, but he
thinks that some outside help won’t hurt, especially after the ruckus she
caused at Logatoys…she could take care of Anifer. Renée thinks he is so
cynical, but when Mau insists that this is for a woman who is as sensitive,
intelligent and energetic as she is, not an insensitive… Renée interrupts and
tells him not to try to flatter her…he should concentrate on taking care of his
daughter. After she plops the bag in his hands, Renée walks out as Gladys walks
in. Mau is very glad to see Gladys who has just arrived just in time for a
special mission that requires a sensitive, intelligent and energetic woman, but
Gladys ignores him and loudly orders him to sign the documents and explains
that she can’t take care of the child because she is just getting over her own
illness. As Gladys leaves, Mau complains that he does not open his own mail…it
could have anthrax! When he finally opens a suspicious envelope, he takes out
the note that reads: You know what happened to María Cruz, now her daughter is
next!
[Mexican Version: At Logatoys, Jorge tells Fabian that he
has reviewed a series of documents, and at first look, there are several
businesses under Falcon’s name, but a more in-depth review reveals that there
is no further information; it is very suspicious. Fabian assures him that
Falcon is not hiding anything shady; Falcon is just strange. Fabian continues
that they should keep this confidential and Jorge shouldn’t worry about it; he
has enough problems as it is.] Jorge agrees, but then asks Fabian for his
support in making sure that Mr. Nerón Machuca get his full severance pay for
his retirement. As Fabian agrees, he gets a call from Mau so he walks into
Mau’s office. Mau tells him that something terrible is happening and he needs
him to go over it with him immediately. Fabian
teases about what it could be—he ran out of water, he can’t change a light bulb
or he has to go out with Sebas and he has no one else…so Mau reiterates that
this is much worse and serious…he must come over.
At Renée’s house, Lupe questions why Renée insists on
helping Mau when she supposedly can’t stand him. (If you insist on barking
Loopy, at least wag your tail.) Renée explains that she’s not doing anything
for Mau; she is only doing things for his daughter…it’s not her fault she has
such a useless father. Loopy doesn’t want her to hold anything against him, but
he just wants to know if he is wasting his time with her or…Renée tells him to
back up and explain what he is saying. Loopy explains that she is beautiful and
he thinks that Mau wants something more with her; and if that is so, he doesn’t
blame Mau…he understands more that anyone. Loopy wants to know what
significance Mau has for her since Mau is good-looking and lives close by. It
wouldn’t be unusual if she felt attracted to him. Renée points out that he is
talking about someone who is irresponsible, presumptuous, and rude, a bad boss,
bad…bad everything! (But not a BAD DOG :-)
At Mau’s house, Fabian looks at the note as Mau states
that this is a professional job…like in the movies! They need to report the
criminals immediately. Fabian doesn’t understand who would want to hurt the
child. Mau thinks the world is going to end since it is filled with crooks who
are bad, insensitive and selfish (all the mirrors in his house just broke
themselves). Mau wants Fabian to go with him to the police station, but
remembers that he can’t leave Anifer alone. Fabian tells him to calm down and
offers to call Gladys; so Mau agrees and tells him to also have two body guards
come with her. Mau wonders why these crooks can’t make an honest living…with
sweat on their foreheads…like him! (Duck, Mau, another pig flew over!) Fabian is bowled over and says, “Sure, like you.”
At Renée’s house, Renée can’t believe Loopy would think
she could like someone like Mau. Loopy doesn’t mean that she is in love with
him, but the guy is gallant; and it doesn’t seem that she dislikes him as much
as she says. Renée justifies that she just controls herself…out of respect…for
Anifer, but Mauricio Lopez-Garza is that last man on the planet that she would
be interested in. Loopy doesn’t want to be a bother, but he sees how she is
suddenly looking out for him; so he gets confused. Renée agrees that he is
confused…very much; and yes, she is watching out for Anifer because she loves
her. When she points out that Anifer got sick while in her home, she adds that
she is not going to feel right until Anifer is completely well. As Renée goes
to get some coffee in the kitchen, she pauses to consider her feelings about
Mauricio, but just shakes it off and repeats to herself, “No!, No!, No!”
At the Public Ministry, Mau complains that it is taking
“ages” and criticizes how long they take for emergencies. When it’s finally his
turn, he walks up and the detective recognizes him immediately and wonders what
he is doing there again. After showing Mau how he recognizes him so quickly
since he is in magazines and famous, the cop finally asks him what he needs, so
Mau tells him to contact all the armed forces and Scotland Yard because this is
a matter of life and death! (Overlooking the fact that Scotland Yard might
'incur some long distance charges')
After Fabian pulls Mau off of the detective, Mau shows
the detective the anonymous note that some coward left and he states he wants
to file a report. When the detective tells him that this happens all the time
and asks what bad things Mau is into and who he is hanging out with, Mau insists
that they do something because his daughter is in danger...or are they going to
wait for a commando to arrive like “Fast and Furious” and blow them away!
Fabian continues to calm Mau, so the detective tells him to leave the note with
him; there isn’t much they can do because there isn’t too much evidence. What
he can recommend is that he take good care of his daughter. Mau can’t believe
that is all the detective will do. When the detective tells him that they can’t
do much else and that is why Mau shouldn’t leave his daughter alone...he can
leave her with relatives, Mau explains that his daughter only has him. The
detective reiterates that Mau should leave the note with him; if something
happens the note will be solid evidence. (Don't bother with the envelope or
stamp or postmark, Einstein?)
At Veronica’s house, Veronica arrives and is surprised to see her family
waiting for her at the table that is already set for dinner. Toño notes her
surprise and wonders if the orderliness bothers her, but she denies it since
she left everything practically ready for him and even prepared the food so he
could just serve it. When she tells him that she will have to leave early on
Monday and won’t be able to prepare anything, Toño assures her that he will
take care of everything until he gets a job. In the meantime, he will enjoy his
time with his children. Tania then comments that it will be easier for him to
take care of the home because they can help him. After Veronica leaves to wash
her hands, Toño hands the kids their rewards, but Tania
complains they should get more since they said so many lies; so he gives
them a few more treats.
As Mau and Fabian arrive at Mau’s house, Fabian comments
that the threat to Anifer is very serious; though this has nothing to do with
him, he worries about what might happen to them. Mau thinks that Fabian wears
his suit a suit that fits him well…there is a heart inside; when all is said
and done, neither one of them have parents or siblings…or anyone. Fabian agrees
that they don’t have siblings. When Fabian hesitates after he starts to say
that he and Mau are like…Mau urges him to
spit it out since this is the first time that he gets emotional; so Fabian
states that he and Mau are like brothers. Mau smiles and gives Fabian a
brotherly hug, but Fabian looks quite tense…
When they hear Gladys say that they look quite loving,
they quickly separate. After that, Gladys
informs Mau that she and the bodyguards are using some cards and dominos that
they found. Mau asks how Anifer is. Gladys quite dramatically responds that
Anifer is perfectly fine; she has already eaten and is drawing…which Gladys
thinks is very fortunate because the child can talk; she even talks more than
her (Gladys)! Afterwards, Gladys tells Mau she is leaving, so she snaps her
fingers motioning the bodyguards to follow her.
[Mexican Version: At Nerón’s shop, Flor asks Nerón if
there have been any new customers; so Nerón responds that there haven’t been as
many as he would wish, but something is better that nothing. When Flor brings
up hiring someone to help, Nerón thinks he can handle it…and then some; he
isn’t that old. After Flor mocks his response and remarks that he is a very
strong superhero, Nerón considers hiring someone later on, but he would like to
save money for Milady’s baptism and the debts he acquired when he opened the
repair shop.] Flor agrees since his severance pay seems to have turned into a
shattered dream. Just then a female customer comes in to have her tires
checked. When Nerón quickly starts to go, Flor gives him “the look” so he comes
back and gives her a kiss before going to check the tires.
At Mau’s house, Anifer tells Renée that she has finished
her meal. As Anifer asks Renée in a whisper if she can come play with her for a
while because Mau hardly knows how to play anything, Mau listens and interjects
that whispering during a gathering is bad manners. When Mau offers to leave
them alone, Renée tells him that it is she who is leaving, but stops when she
sees Anifer’s plant and comments how pretty it is. Anifer tells Renée it is her
plant that she brought from her town, but it seems not to like it there; so
Renée offers to take it so she can repot it and return it later. When Renée
adds that it won’t be the next day because she has things to do…like looking
for a job, Mau remembers that they have a pending conversation because of the
scandal she caused in front of everybody. When he asks Renée if she remembers,
Renée does remember…and she remembers many other things that they haven’t
cleared up as well. Renée then tells Anifer that she will return her plant
later and says good-bye. After Renée leaves, Mau gets a call from Sebastian who
has been very worried about Mau; he is glad that Mau was able to get out of
jail, but is now wondering if it’s true that Mau’s company is going broke. (Now
make that Mau's ex-friend Sebastian)
Outside, as Jorge arrives, Renée asks him if his
colleague has mentioned anything about her house because she really needs to
have the intestate addressed. Jorge replies
that he has talked to his colleague who is following the normal procedures that
will take some time. As Renée comments that she must have very bad luck with
the law since it’s not only complicated, but slow, Veronica comes outside with
her kids. Jorge continues to talk to Renée, but changes the subject and tells
her that there is something else he would like to discuss with her…he thinks
she overdid it when she caused the ruckus at Logatoys. Veronica interrupts and
wonders what ruckus Jorge is talking about as Toño approaches also; so Renée
explains that she went to complain about the unfair firings and the miserable
hirings they are trying to make…the owner’s brilliant ideas. After Jorge
clarifies that was not Mauricio’s idea, Veronica thinks that is worse because
that means that Mauricio didn’t even worry that they were left without jobs.
Toño wonders how Jorge can continue defending that man since he ruined their
lives…but then he understands since Jorge still has a job and money. Jorge
doesn’t want them to blame him because Jorge wouldn’t defend Mau if he were
conning them. Jorge does want justice to be done because that is what is most
important in his life. As they continue to discuss, Nerón and Flor approach and
wonder if there is a meeting since everyone is there, but when Flor points out
that Jorge’s wife is missing, Toño asks when Dulce will return. After Jorge
gets nervous and tells them that Dulce’s trip is a long one…and he doesn’t
know, everyone looks skeptical.
At Mau’s house, Mau walks around still talking to
Sebastian. He comments that everything that goes up must come down; the
fluctuations in the market left them trapped, but they just need to take things
step by step. He thinks they will come out of the pit, especially if the
investors support him. Sebastian thinks Mau got out of jail smarter and more experienced;
he tries to be encouraging and then tells Mau he has his ticket for the party.
As Mau talks, Anifer yells that she is thirsty, but Mau continues to talk to
Sebastian and tells him he doesn’t think he can go. Sebastian insists since it
is going to be the most important event of the year…he even offers to pay for
everything. As Mau tries to respond, Anifer yells that she wants an apple…and
has to go to the restroom; so Mau hangs up and tells Anifer to hurry if she has
to go to the restroom. When they run to the restroom, Mau struggles to decide
whether he should go in or stay out, but decides to stay out and tells Anifer
to let him know when she finishes.
Outside, Renée comments that it is not a neighborhood
meeting and that if Dulce’s trip takes time, it shouldn’t matter…she probably
deserves it. Jorge then redirects them to their initial conversation and tells
them that he thinks they should keep the peace with Mauricio, but Toño and
Nerón disagree. Jorge explains that they should just pretend that Mau doesn’t
exist and not get into his affairs. Toño thinks that it is Mau who butts into
everyone else’s business. Veronica interjects that the one who concerns her is
Anifer. When the ladies agree, they offer suggestions as to what they will do
for Anifer. Toño and Nerón don’t want them getting close to Anifer. When Toño
adds that Mau will probably not live there for long, Jorge has his doubts since
things are quite bad at Logatoys; he reiterates that they should not confront
Mauricio; and they should maintain the peace and harmony. As Toño shoots a
rubber duck with his toy gun, he states that, yes, they will make sure of that.
After Neto catches the rubber duck, Tania suggests to her
brothers that they could help take Mauricio out of the neighborhood. Fidel
thinks they could scare him away and Tania thinks he is a genius.
Time
Lapse—
Renée continues to look for a job. Mauricio takes care of
Anifer—putting on rubber gloves and a mask to help her blow her nose. Renée
goes to the San Martin Foundation where she will make a speech. Mauricio tries
to get Anifer to take her medication by tasting the medication then making a
sour face. Renée meets the children at the Foundation. Gladys takes Mau his
correspondence while he takes care of Anifer; and Anifer uses his laptop.
Days
Later—
Veronica’s kids watch Mau’s house as they drink and burp.
Jorge has breakfast with Valentina and Samuel. When he
and Samuel complain about having the same breakfast for several days, Valentina
suggests he hire someone to cook for them, but Jorge reminds her that they
can’t take on that expense. When Valentina points out that he is an attorney
and doesn’t understand how they are always limited moneywise, Jorge evades the
question and asks Samuel if he has a bruise
on his arm. Valentina thinks it’s just dirt since Samuel hasn’t taken a bath in the past few days. Jorge asks if one of his
classmates hit him, but Samuel denies it and tells him he might have hit
himself in the physical education class. Valentina warns Jorge not to pay too
much attention to Samuel’s drama…he’s not as wimpy as Jorge thinks.
As Mau helps Anifer into the old car that Fabian still
has him driving, Anifer comments that it seems as if he is the one that is
ill...not her…he looks very sick. Mau responds that taking care of her tires
him out and she should be more appreciative of his sacrifice. He tells her not
to pretend to be sick when they get to the office because she is well now.
After Anifer assures him she will behave, Mau starts to take off but runs over
an air-filled bag that pops; so he ducks and yells out, “Hit the dirt!” As they
peek out of the car, Mau thinks they have come for them…and this is the end!
When Mau slowly opens the door, he sees Tania and Neto
laughing; so he looks down and sees the flattened bag. When Mau says, “This
can’t be! When I get my hands on those kids, they’re gonna…” Anifer wonders why
he got so scared.
Renée meets with Sonia at the Foundation and wonders if
the topic she will talk about will be appropriate for the presentation she will
make. Sonia thinks it definitely is important that the women be aware that all
women can succeed with their own strengths, but that supporting each other and
giving each other a hand is something invaluable. Renée thinks that based on
the stories Sonia has told her about the women, she will be the one to learn
from them. Sonia tells Renée that she can’t imagine how many cases of abuse,
abandonment, and low self-esteem there are, but now that she has gone through
the Foundation, she knows what they do. When she asks Renée if she will agree
to give the presentation, Renée quickly agrees to do it whenever Sonia wants
and offers her help if they need anything else for the Foundation.
[Mexican Version: At Samuel’s school, Father Cutberto
tells Jorge that he shouldn’t make a mountain out of a molehill. These are
thing that kids go through and do as always. They play rough, but there is
nothing happening; it’s things that happen among them. When Jorge asks Father
Cutberto if he thinks he is exaggerating, Father Cutberto admits that there has
been much discussion about bullying, but it’s something that has always
existed. Jorge wonders if any of the teachers have mentioned anything, but
Father Cutberto tells him that he and his family should examine their own
beliefs; the balance for everything depends on the functioning of a marriage
that has God’s blessing. Jorge agrees and explains that is why he enrolled his
children in the religion classes. Father Cutberto is puzzled because he has
only seen Samuel at the classes, but maybe he just hasn’t observed well and has
not noticed Valentina. Jorge becomes worried that Father Cutberto has not seen Valentina.]
At Nerón’s repair shop, Nerón huffs and puffs as he opens
the garage door. [Mexican Version: Flor wonders if he is ok since it’s only the
first day and he is already huffing. After Nerón tells her not to exaggerate
and gives her a kiss good-bye,] he enters and
opens the other door. As he turns around, two men come in and ask if he repairs
tires. After he tells them that this is a repair shop, one of the men pulls a
gun out and demands to know where the money is.
At Logatoys, Mau is at his desk presumably working as
Anifer watches and mimics him.
As Mau look at pictures of women, Anifer asks if he has a
paper she can borrow…if he wants she can draw a picture for him. When Mau
responds that he doesn’t have anything to eat and tells her to ask Gladys,
Anifer complains that he didn’t even listen to her and reminds him that he
hasn’t even told her a story that he promised to tell her. After Mau tells her
he isn’t good at that (and so-o-o many other things!), Anifer also reminds him
that he said he was going to call her mother and he hasn’t done that either.
Mau tells her that he is too busy at the moment, but later he will tell her a
story…he knows a real good one with witches, charming princes, and godmothers.
Just then Sister Queta stops by to see how the
cherubim is doing. Mau tells her that Anifer was sick, but she is well now; he
had to sacrifice his personal entertainment to care for her, but that’s
life…hard and professional. When Sister Queta is glad she is better and tells
Anifer that she has thought about her all these days, Mau adds that he has also
been thinking about Sister Queta and what they talked about. Before he
continues, Mau goes to the door and finds Gladys already waiting for him. When
he asks her if she can take Anifer for a few minutes, Gladys calls to the
little person who walks out and refuses to be patted on the head by anyone.
At Nerón’s repair shop, Crook 1 holds Nerón at gun point
while Crook 2 goes through the drawers looking for money. When Crook 2 tells
Crook 1 that there is nothing there, Crook 1 grabs the box; and as he grabs the
few pesos that are there, NerOnFire grabs and takes the gun away, so Crook 1
runs off as Crook 2 stays behind and runs through the other door and bangs into
“Wally the Tin Man” who knocks him down. NerOnFire grabs a hold of Crook 2 and
tells him he is taking him to jail! Frantic, Crook 2 apologizes and tells
NerOnFire that he really didn’t want to steal anything.
(There are so many flying pigs we need an air traffic controller here.)
At Mau’s office, Sister Queta wonders why Mau referred to
her as a fairy godmother. Mau explains that she offered to take care of Anifer.
He doesn’t know if this is the right thing for him, but, really, it isn’t; he
wasn’t born to be a father…and it would be best for everyone, especially the
child. When Sister Queta asks Mau to explain, Mau tells her that Anifer would
be safer and much better off if Sister Queta took complete charge of her.
Sister Queta smiles and nods.
At the Foundation, Sonia tells Renée that the women felt
very encouraged by meeting someone who works so hard and is able to make it on her own. When she
gives Renée a payment for all she has done, Renée refuses it and tells Sonia
that she didn’t come expecting to be paid. Sonia knows she didn’t, but insists
that Renée take the money since she is out of a job…they can help each other;
furthermore, fixing the security cameras was no easy job. After Renée thanks
her and comments that she is having trouble finding a job, Sonia wonders if there
is someone there at the Foundation who could
help her…she just needs to keep her ear open. Renée appreciates Sonia’s
support; coming to the Foundation has been very important to her.
At Mau’s office, Mau asks Sister Queta if she now understands
why Anifer would be better off with her…Anifer would be safer. Sister Queta does
understand and agrees; the important thing is her niece’s safety. Mau thinks
that Sister Queta can take much better care of Anifer than he can; he wants
Anifer to have a peaceful life and to be a good person…and he is not what
Anifer needs. After Sister Queta comments that Anifer is the only family she
has left in her life, she agrees to take Anifer. When Mau asks where they would
live and if it would be a convent or a monastery, Sister Queta replies that
they would live there in the city at the San Martin Orphanage where she works
and lives; there are orphans that Anifer could spend time with. Mau thinks that
would be great for Anifer since there are poor children there that she could
play with. Sister Queta thinks it would be perfect and Mau could see her
anytime he wants; Anifer can live with her and he will always be her father. (Does this slug leave a sticky trail as he crawls
along?)
At Nerón’s repair shop, a crowd has gathered and watches
as NerOnFire is still holding Crook 2. When Crook 2 continues to apologize and
swears he didn’t want to steal from him, NerOnFire asks if he is a Mexican; so
Crook 2 tells him he is from Guatemala. He was on his way to the United States
and was on a train, but fell asleep and fell off. After Crook 2 continues to
tell NerOnFire details about how/where he fell off the train and how he came to
meet the men who forced him to steal, the cops arrive and grab Crook 2, but
NerOnFire tells them it wasn’t Crook 2…the crook that took the money left the
other way, but it wasn’t this man…it was a false alarm.
At Mau’s office, Anifer wonders how this woman could be
her grandaunt if she never saw her with her mother. (Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding! Ding!) Sister Queta explains that the last time she
saw Anifer’s mother in Chiapas, Anifer was just a baby so she wouldn’t remember
her. When Sister Queta adds that nuns don’t use cellphones or anything like
that, Mau adds that finding relatives doesn’t happen every day…this is like a
national celebration. As Mau admits he is exaggerating, Anifer looks skeptical…
(Something about kids and dogs?)
At Nerón’s repair shop, the cops tell the crowd that the
show is over, so they need to leave. Crook 2 is still assuring Nerón that he
didn’t want to do anything bad; he just wanted to cross the border to be with
his father. Nerón warns him that it isn’t going to be easy to cross over,
especially the way things are over there. When Nerón asks why he didn’t stay in
Guatemala, Crook 2 confides that his mother and siblings are still in Guatemala.
His father would send them money, but hasn’t sent them anything for some time.
Since he is the oldest, his mother sent him to go look for his father; and if
he couldn’t find his father, then he would have to stay and work so he can send
his family money. Nerón asks if there isn’t any work in Guatemala; so Crook 2
explains that they are indigent…farmers who sometimes don’t even have enough to
buy food. Without his father, he is the man of the house. Nerón then asks if he
knows that he still has a long way to go to get to the border. If Crook 2
doesn’t have any money, Nerón wonders how he will manage; so Crook 2 quickly
responds that he will work until he has enough money to get to the United
States…he does not fear hard work. Nerón thinks Crook 2 will have a lot of
problems getting work since Crook 2 doesn’t have his papers and is an
“illegal.” Crook 2 will find a way somehow and thanks Nerón for what he did for
him…not turning him in. After Crook 2 tells Nerón that it is obvious that he is
a good person, he starts to leave, but Nerón calls to him and asks his name; so
Crook 2 introduces himself as Pablo Morales; and they shake hands.
At Mau’s office, Sister Queta dismisses herself since Mau
and Anifer have things to discuss. After she leaves, Mau sits down and asks
Anifer if she would like to go live with her grandaunt. When Anifer remains
quiet, Mau tells her that either way, she will
be going with Sister Queta. Anifer asks where she is going, so Mau tells her
she is going to the nun’s house; they just need to go get her things. He will
help her get her backpack and take her with the nun…it’s what is best for
everyone. Anifer hangs her head with sadness… (Somebody pour some salt on him!)
