Papa a Toda Madre, Capítulo 14, Friday, February 2, 2018; Renée passes herself off as Anifer’s mother (as a favor)

We open with Anifer telling Mauricio that he is exploiting child labor laws. Mauricio wants to know where she learned that one from. Well of course she learned it from her mother and by the way, didn’t he promise to get in touch with her mother so that she can talk to her? Mauricio tries to distract her by offering her a popsicle, but she says, “I want to talk to my mother! And I don’t want it to be tomorrow, I want it to be now!”

Mauricio tries to explain to her that her mother is in a remote location where there isn’t any wi-fi. “That’s the reason she cannot communicate with us, and neither us with her.” “Well” says Anifer, “If you aren’t going to be able to call my mother, then I’m not going to help you anymore with my drawings.” Maur says, “You’re my flesh and blood, you should not be putting conditions on me. Who do you think you are?”

Jorge comes to the school’s principal’s office where his kids go to school. He says he has a confession to make and lets the Padre know that he is going through a divorce. The priest says he has to do everything he can to save his marriage.  He talks about his son who he thought was the victim of bullying, was bullying himself. The padre recommends that Sam recite the rosary every single day. Even more he found out that Valentina ran over somebody. He tells the Padre that his job as a lawyer and Padre’s job as a priest are nearly identical because they both require a lot of confidentiality.

Toño and his kids are at a restaurant having milkshakes together after eating dinner. His daughter wants to know how many days will be there doing the place of her mother. Toño replies that this is just for a little while and it will be like being on vacation.

Valentina and Samuel are sitting in the car and Samuel says he misses their mother. Valentina says everything that is happening is her fault. But Sam says, “but what if it is Dad’s fault?” As Samuel is talking, their dad’s cell phone starts to ring. The display says it is “Tía Chata”. Val answers it, but no one responds. Jorge gets back in the car and Val tells him he took a long time. “Oh by the way, someone called. It said it was Tía Chata. Who is she?” “She is no one. She is just another very distant family member.”

Toño and the kids are playing in the park having a great time. He twists his son around in the swing to make him dizzy and his son wants him to do it again. Toñ says no, “I don’t want you to turn out like the kid on “The Exorcist” “Who is that?” Just then Veronica calls so Toño takes the call. It’s Veronica and he tells her not to worry, that everything is under control. They hang up and the kids come running. They just love their “vacation”.

Renée is on the phone with Lupe and she says it’s better that they talk in person for her to explain things to him. Lupe says there is no need to explain anything. “Do you need anything else?” But Renée says, “Look if you are busy we can talk later, I understand.” Lupe says, “It’s not that, but I’ve gone for many years, I have never talked about how I felt about you, out of respect because I know you have always looked at me as just a friend. But now it seems to follow that we need to make a decision on formalizing our relationship.” Renée says, “We need to keep it just getting to know each other little by little.” Lupe counters that he has been waiting all these years and wants her to become serious about him. Renée gives a look of exasperation.

Mauricio takes Anifer to the best toy store in Mexico and they walk down the doll aisle. “I’ve brought you her to pick out any toy you want to. Of course, only one because we are in a period of austerity, which means no money.” She looks at all the different Barbie figures as “Barbie doctor, Barbie futból player and so on. Mauricio says, “They have every kind of Barbie for every kind of girl.” She finally picks out the kind of Barbie she wants and Maur tells her to forget about her mother’s Barbie. But Anifer reminds him that if he doesn’t get her mother on the phone, she will no longer help with his designs at Logatoys.

The Barrientos children are riding home and Fidelito exclaims that Neto is about to get sick in the car. Toño starts getting very nervous and tells him to get some air. “You’re mother will have a heart attack if you get sick in this car!”

Mauricio comes up with a plan to make Anifer think she will be talking to her mother. He goes to Renée to ask her to pretend to be Anifer’s mother online on a Skype type call with Renée doing a ‘chat’. Renée is not too thrilled with this and knows that all mothers have a language that they speak with their children and Anifer will know that it is not her mother on the other end. “But it’s a lie” says Renée. Mauricio counters that it is a lie, but a very noble one. She goes on to explain that Anifer needs to really be told the truth about her mother, that she died. At first, Renée tells him “no” and to get someone else. But Maur is insistent, and says, “do I have to beg or offer jewels, trips, clothes?” Renée says, “I don’t care if you get on your knees and ask. The answer is NO.”  Maur says this in the only time in his life that he has been unselfish. He does not have the heart to tell Anifer that her mother is dead. Maur says to Renée, “Do you really think this is a good time to break Anifer’s heart and tell her that her mother is dead?” Another look of frustration comes from Renée.

End of Part 1
Now the rest of the story:

So that frustration translated into Renée agreeing to play the part of Anifer’s mother online. At the computer, Mauricio and Anifer get online together, but Maur explains to her that the connection will not be a good one for her mother, so she can only chat by typing, but on their end, her “mother” will be able to see her. Also, Maur explains that no photos are allowed because of a rule and protocol for international espionage. Therefore, no photographic image should be transmitted online because it would put her “mother” in danger, “and we don’t want that now, do we?” say Maur.

Meanwhile, Renée gets her laptop setup and then places a yellow sticky over the camera to block. On Anifer’s side, it’s a black screen and Renée tries to figure out what to say, but seems to find the right words.
Toño arrives home with the kids and the house is flooded out with soapsuds from the washing machine. Then Veronica comes home and finds the mess! “So Barrientos, how nice that you have everything under control!” exclaims Veronica angrily but sarcastically. “Well, the rest of everything else is just perfect, right Neto?”, says Toño. At that point Neto throws up on the floor splattering his mess on his mother as well. It was not a pretty sight.

Anifer and Mauricio continue with their Skype call with Anifer’s “mother.” Ani asks when she is going to come for her, so Renée tells her that her work has not ended and she is in a far away place called Madagascar. Just then, Lupe just barges in at Renée’s place and just walks in saying, “So can I come on in, beautiful?” [This does seem rather intrusive]. She is startled and says, “Oh Lupe, you scared me.” “Oh forgive for not knocking” says Lupe. “But also for the negative way I was talking with you earlier.” He hands Renée a bouquet of roses and says, “Do you forgive me?” Renée thanks him and takes the roses and says, “Please forgive me too because I am busy writing email regarding my master’s degree and I have to send it soon. Do you think you can take the flowers and find a vase in the kitchen to put these in water?” Lupe then says yes and Renée thanks him as she continues with the Skyping charade. She types, “Wait for me a little bit. I won’t be long.” On Anifer’s end, Anifer says, “Why can’t she talk?”

Lupe comes back with the vase and then intrusively goes over to Renée’s laptop and lifts up the cover as Renée, horrified looks on at him taking off the little yellow sticky. “Don’t touch that!” says Renée. “Why not?” says Lupe. “Because it has to do with my work.” says Renée.

On Anifer’s and Maur’s end, Anifer is saying, “My mother did not answer.” Maur says, “Well we probably lost the signa, Enanal.” [I noticed he has been calling Anifer “Enana”, which means “runt”] “Let’s wait for a little longer.” He sends her out to go get them a couple of apples. “Then I will see what might be going on.”

At Renée’s Lupe tells her, “I didn’t know you were so reclusive or suspicious when it came to your work. I’m not a gossip, but why did you cover your camera? Who do you not want seeing you?” “No one” says Renée, let’s not make up stories please. I put the yellow sticky there because I just liked how it looked there.” Then he opens it up and finds the screen with Mauricio visible there. “It’s that guy, right? What is going on?” “Look” says Renée, “This is not what it looks like. It’s nothing…it’s something else.”

At the Barrientos, Veronica tells Toño that they are paying for ballet classes, swimming classes, so that you were end up living my life for me. Veronica, not being very happy about all that she has discovered, says they will talk later. Then she asks Tania about the load of white clothes that were in the washing machine. Tania exclaims, “White?” She laughs and then says, “It’s all pink!” Veronica walks over to the basket of laundry and is quite exasperated that her favorite blouse is ruined!  “What was the first thing I told you? Says Veronica. “I told you that white and colors are to be SEPARATED!” Little Fidelito repeats his mother by saying, “This is the first thing she said, Antonio Barrientos!”

Nerón goes up the steps to Logatoys and is stopped by security. He says he has just come for his retirement check. But the security men say, “No one sent us the memo. It’s better that you just leave, sir.”  But another man comes down (I don’t know this character’s name) and tells security to allow him to come in because he is coming for his liquidation settlement check. He gets Nerón to sign for his settlement and sends him on his way.

At Renée’s Lupe goes on about not wanting to get into her business, but if they are dating and if he tried to hide the fact that he was talking with another girl, “don’t you think that would be strange?” Renée tries to explain it wasn’t what it looked like, she wasn’t trying to chat with Maur, but it really was a private matter having to do with Anifer. They argue a little bit and she asks him to have patience with her. Somehow this gets around to him saying, “Say it. Doesn’t this mean that we are ‘novios’?” Renée looks at him, nods and says, “Um-hmmm”  [Somehow this doesn’t seem too thrilling for Renée]

At Jorge’s home, he talks to Valentina about facing her responsibilities with the accident that put someone in the hospital. Then Sam shouts out “Well that’s what you get for taking the car without permission.” Jorge doesn’t let this one slide and tells him, “If you don’t shape up, your school is going to expel you.” Valentina says, “Oh so that’s what you get for being a bully!” Jorge cuts in and tells them to knock it off and stop fighting like cats and dogs, but to examine their own conduct and their consciences. “I know that since your mother is gone, this all affects you, but in order for things to work in this family, I need for the both of you to be always obedient.  Remember, everything that I do for you, I do it for your own good.”

Renée and Lupe sit down and talk. She says, The only thing I ask is that we don’t go back and argue about the situation regarding Mauricio and his daughter. They are my neighbors, for what that is worth, I have to live with them here.” Lupe responds, “I want to be your boyfriend and not your boss and I’m not going to tell you how to do things, but (referring to Mauricio) he is a ladies man and a flirt and all the ladies want him.” Renée responds, “And what does that have to do with me?” “I’m just saying that with those type of guys the best thing to do is just talk to them about what is absolutely necessary. His type will take advantage of your time like he was your boss.” But Renée doesn’t think so. Lupe further explains that she should just say “no” and realize that Anifer is not her problem. “Besides, we can have more time together and I can help you with planning your Masters degree program in peace. And hey, your mother would be in agreement with this.” “Don’t bring my mother into this”, says Renée.

Veronica and Toño continue to argue about the washing machine fiasco and the ruined blouse and the fact that he did not check the load. Veronica tries to send the kids to shower and go to bed, but they beg to stay up and watch TV for an hour. Veronica finally relents. They talk about her day, she makes mention that it was rough, then he makes a remark about this work not being for women. Exasperated, she throws up her and he decides it’s time to take out the trash.

At Maur’s place, Anifer is disappointed that her “mother” seems to have lost the signal. But Maur tells her that he fulfilled his part of the promise, now what about her? He goes to get an old prototype. He then shows her a pirate type of toy that looks like an owl. He is supposed to be a rebel that resists night life but loves to go surfing instead. Maur thinks he is innovative, but Anifer thinks he is useless.

The three neighbor men (Nerón, Jorge, and Toño gather outside to mumble about their problems. The subject comes up about Nerón’s liquidation settlement where he was offered 30% and Jorge forgot all about telling him not to accept it. “Did you sign for it?” says Jorge. “You should not have.”

Mauricio talks to Renée about what happened and she explained she had a guest who came unexpectedly. She also tells him she won’t be doing this anymore and she will be unavailable for anything further regarding his situation and doesn’t want to feel badly about it

Toño is on his way to an interview wearing some clothes that look like they were discolored in the laundry. Veronica is cheerleading him on. But she is on her way to a meeting and needs to hang up. He meets with someone who just looks at him and laughs. The man thinks he looks like a joker that comes out on one of those morning shows. Then he tells Toño the job is part time and Toño says he will have to think about it. He tells Veronica that he has other offers too.

At Logatoys, Anifer works with the design team with her giving her input on toy designs and finally settles on some. They get ready to go to a meeting and at this meeting they find out that the focus groups decided that mother/father dolls were the favorite.

Detective Rodrigo arrives at Nerón’s tire shop and tries to talk to Nerón’s newest employee, Pablo. Nerón tells him to stop because they guy is deaf. Of course that is a story because they are hiding the fact that he is undocumented and do not what the police to know. Then Flor comes in with the baby, about to blow the cover and starts to talk to Pablito to ask him to get her a stool. So Det. Rodrigo asks, “So he is not a deaf/mute?” Nerón says he knows how to read lips. Then Flor just blows it saying he can hear and speak. They must have fooled Rodrigo, because he congratulated Nerón for hiring handicapped person. However, Flor wants an explanation!

Renée meets with her academic advisor who tells her that the University of Maryland will be choosing four people, two men and two women to their program. But Renée is with five outside candidates. Her advisor tells her she needs to lengthen her term so as to complete her thesis.

Mauricio comes back to his office with Fabian and Anifer and is greeted by Falcon and the company posse. They inform Mauricio that he is no longer going to be a part of the decision making process for any creative designs.

Hi Patio! I am out of town right now and did not finish writing the recap. I have to get on the road, but feel free to comment as you wish now and I will be filling in the rest by Saturday night. I am out of town on a family emergency.

So sorry about your family emergency Cynthia. These are never happy, care-free occasions but times of trouble and worry. And here you are trying to put together a recap long distance.

We have had recappers miss doing episodes because of headaches and slumber parties. So don't put yourself through a wringer if you need to be all there for your family. This is, after all, a volunteer effort.

I haven't seen this yet, but I'm sure those folks who have can probably add some of the action in the comments as far as that goes.

Cynthia, so sorry. Please take care. You have gone far beyond to give us a fantastic Part 1 and screenshots too. Like JudyB says, we can all add to the action.

The biggest action I remember is that Renee agreed to be Lupe's novia.

Oh noooooooo! Not sure I want to watch now!

Cynthia, take care of your family, we will manage here somehow, and wont even dock your pay. Family is far more important than this mind bending hobby.

I have to say, I haven't softened on our puppy. Barks a lot, under foot at the wrong times, and into everything. Those nose prints on my laptop would send me over the edge. Ya know, I wonder, does Snoopy just walk in unannounced? It looks like it. He certainly played to my rant yesterday about privacy. Anyway, I hope Renee can find a job with medical insurance soon and somehow rid herself of that tarbaby.

Luuuuurve Anifer. She somehow, unbelievably, sees that she is in the driver's seat and is not afraid to use it. No Mommy call, no fresh toy sketches. WOW. Give the munchkin credit. Rather than gimme gimme gimme, she is willing to give something of value to get what she needs. Nice. Love smart kids.

Note to Tono: Rit dye has a product called color remover to reverse what you did with the red and white laundry. Also try Rit 'White Wash', about the same function. It is usually there with the liquid color dyes. It comes in a little box the size of a deck of cards, it is a powder. Did I mention you don't deserve to even buy bathroom tissue for a Goddess like tall, long legged, sultry Veronica? OK

Hoppy Saturday

Cynthia, thank you. I love the screen shots. Don’t worry about the recap. Take care!

I think that Renée does not want to hurt Lupe’s feelings but she is just making it worse for both of them by accepting being his novia. I cannot see a happy ending with that decision.

JudyB you have to see it .Mauricio is painting himself into a very small corner through his hesitancy to break Anifer's heart, and his need for her toy designs. He is just not the kind of guy to 'Man Up', it seems. I hate it that he managed to talk Renee into his cowardly plan. I'd have a tough time telling Anifer her Mom is dead though. Should she know now, or some time in the future when Mom is not so fresh in her memory to hear that she has been killed in the 'line of duty'? Maybe possibly to learn the truth as an adult? I don't know, I've never had to cross that bridge. Thankfully.

One day, Anifer's Mom will return, or the truth will finally come out, and she and Mauricio will see that it is just them two, they have no one else.

And where's that dam shoebox? What was in it, a pair of 9 West CFMs?

Not to worry, Kirby. I'll watch. Some time today. I still tell myself I'm "doing my Spanish homework" when I tune in--but were I really serious and on-task, I'd actually be slogging through some actual workbook that required me to write full sentences with past perfects and conditionals and all that other sexy stuff. Still, it's a lot more fun to watch telenovela hijinks and write down phrases that I'll promptly forget.

Kirby: I don't think she's dead either.

Cynthia: Valentina & Samuel crack me up :)

Jarifa: Renee looks frustrated indeed.

If she isn't dead, Steve, then his not telling Anifer might eventually be a blessing in disguise.

Oh I hope so Kirby!

Cynthia, thank you so much for this recap under trying circumstances. A family emergency absolutely takes precedence. Here's hoping everything works out OK.

Renee is sweet, but she just let herself be talked into something she really doesn't want. Bad move.

We don't really know if Maria is dead or if Anifer is Mau's biological daughter, both of these were confirmed by the man with the Eldritch tie knots, Fabian. I have a hard time believing he's a bad guy, but even if not, he could be up to something.

Some speculation here: if Mau is not Anifer's biological dad, and Maria is still alive, would they want to separate Anifer and Mau at the TN's conclusion? I don't think so, the writers would be risking life and limb. Hell hath no fury worse than an enraged TN fan.

And, apropos of nothing much in this episode, Flor is a babe with great taste in sleepwear. Neron should marry her ASAP, it would make her happy. And happy wife, happy life.

RATS Andy I must have missed Flor. The only scene I recall is her, Neuron, Pablo and the cop in the shop. But usually when those numbskulls are on I head for the kitchen.

Did Renee really agree to be novio/as? Talk about being browbeaten into something. Loopy has gotten downright accusatory and antagonistic. Boyfriend material?

Andy: Fabian is up to something sinister.

Lupe has been waiting for Renee for so long that he wants them to go from dating to boyfriend to husband in a week. That will only push her away.

I hope Fab ends up being a good guy but he has little confidence in Mau that I think he will do what's best for himself.

Kirby, no, you didn't really miss anything. My comment was "apropos of nothing much in this episode". I really think Flor is the completely faithful kind, but if she has no formal relationship with Neron, some guys might think it's worth a shot, and also be more willing to commit.

Kirby, Flor had on a swishy little top that swung in the breeze and her usual sprayed on jeans. But the real action was between the cop and Pablo. Neuron is having him pretend to be a deaf mute, so the cop won't pick up on his Guatemalan accent and ask for his papers. Cop is also looking for digs in the neighborhood. Hope he finds an apartment there so we can see more of him. He's definitely a cutie. May be playing a gay guy though. He was certainly verrrry nice to Pablo.

And Ana, I'm sorry but Lupe has passed from enamorado to Stalker-Without-Boundaries in this one. He drops in on Renee, not just without calling first, but WITHOUT KNOCKING. Then he opens up her computer (which she shut when he came in) and starts to pull off a tab from the screen that was there to keep her from being seen in her "chat" with Anifer. No more doggie metaphors for Lupe. He has morphed into pushy creep. And this is the time Renee decides to be his novia!!!???? Arrrrggh.

Other developments of note. Neron is conned into signing an agreement that gives him only a pittance of his retirement, rather than the 30% (still measly but better) that Jorge had negotiated for him.

And Mauricio has been gelded by the new owner so that now all of his decisions have to be approved by "the committee". He can't decide anything on his own.

Good points, JudyB. Mauricio "gelded" is perfect! The deaf/mute act was pretty quick thinking on Nerón's part.

Judy, Andy, thanks. Well after I read about her choice of sleepwear, In a woofing panic I Googled Michelle González, 'images' !

Whoa, did I get an eyeful.. Girl is built like a brick s...omething and is not bashful. So Thanks.
I hope Neuron never sees how she (un)dresses when he is not around.

Renee is going to need one of those front door cameras before long. Walk in without knocking? OK we know he is a Doctor and all, but what if she is doing something where an audience is awkward? I mean Renee is not a criminal or anything, but houses are not built from glass for a number of reasons.

Gelded? I like that one, I haven't heard that in a while. I'd expect it out of Susanlynn, though.

Cynthia, hope all is okay. Don't give a second thought to providing a recap.

JudyB, I noticed Officer Rodrigo was verrry nice to Pablo too. Not that I thought Flor would stray, but Neron's jealousy should turn to glee if Pablo plays for the other team.

Lupe pulled out all the guilts to get Renee to say yes. I give Renee a week to realize this ain't gonna work. She doesn't even want to kiss him now. Sheesh.

wait? What! I want to go on the record that I have never gelded anyone...not even a horse.

Cynthia, you are beyond dedicated to give us a recap in the midst of a family emergency. Hope that things are resolved.

I do not know what the characters are saying most of the time, but it did look as though Rod the cop was attracted to Pablo. Also, I did notice that Renee seemed to be giving Lupe a reason to smoke...and hope. Not smart. Not kind.

watching Hallmark Valentine movies while doing Saturday chores. life in the fast lane. Very cold here.

no...not smoke...smile. .. maybe he will smoke later. ...sorry ..
rushing between chores.

Judy...do you remember the recappers who used to give vocabulary lists at the end of their recaps?
Who was that?

Sylvia. Me. And Hombre de Misterio.

Thank you Cynthia.Renee is in a pickle with a Man who's elevator don't go all the way to the top. But I think he is really trying, he just don't have much
To work with.Or he does and won't try.

I just don't think nana got time for a
Relationship with Lupe. She's in the midst of trying to get funding for school, and in a kinda off handed way helping mauricio with anifer. And Lupe
Is pushin for a Relationship.Good luck
Renee. Thank you Cynthia.

The rest of the recap is up! Enjoy!

Just fyi: I'm home from my trip. I had to make an emergency trip to Arizona. My mother broke her hip and had to have a hip replacement. She is now in a very excellent skilled nursing facility. She had dementia so this is very difficult on her because doesn't understand what happened to her. My siblings and I are doing all we can to make sure she is going to be ok and get her mobile again and get her strength back. I have to be back at work on Monday so I had to come home. My apologies for the late recap.

Thank You Cynthia, for this. I trust Momma is going to be alright. Or as alright as can be with a hip replacement. Our prayers are with you and yours.

About Tono's clothes for his interview: It appeared that he was wearing the same pink shirt from the day before. The jacket was straight from Famalia P. L:uche with Derbaz Sr. I laughed along with the interviewer. I have been mystified all my life abut the partners people sometimes choose to produce offspring with. My amazement continues with T&V. Shave and get a haircut. He looks like the people who were on TV around here at Christmas time caught on camera stealing UPS packages by peoples' front doors.

As distasteful as it is on the surface, getting the person (Mauricio) whose leadership bankrupted the company out of the management loop is a smart move.

PS..the salient point is that you KNEW whether you had gelded anyone or not. !

Cynthia, you're a peace for being there when your mom and siblings needed you and then hustling back to finish the recap and get ready for work on Monday. My mom also had dementia and fell and broke her hip, two weeks before my father passed away. It was such a tough time for everybody. Now my sister has dementia and keeps falling at home, despite the best efforts of her caring husband. All the more reason to enjoy the silly antics of this show as a brief respite from our cares and worries. Thanks for being so dedicated...both to this site and to us, amiga.

Meant to say you're a PEACH!!!!!!

Cynthia, thank you for the rest of the recap in spite of your family emergency. Your mother is fortunate to have a daughter like you. Take care.

Cynthia, you took a good story and made it better. Brighter.

You add smart, savvy clarity to each character's thoughts and actions. Your conversation translations add so much!

Anifer continues to show why she is the spark and sizzle here.

Veronica's second job appears to be cleaning up the disasters Tono is leaving in his wake. He is physically and emotionally exhausting.

Renee who so far has shown good judgement just plummeted by agreeing to be Lupe's girlfriend.

And Neuron? Sigh. I can't blame Jorge though who is clearly bewildered in trying to care for his children. I hope his emotional walls come down.

Enjoyed everyone's comments.

Cynthia, you are a kind, caring, loving daughter. Prayers for your mother and you and your family.

Diana

Cynthia, thank you. You are really a great trouper to do this with everything else on your mind. And I'm glad you have your priorities straight. Much as we love these recaps, they should come after real-life family crises as a priority.

I hope things work out as best they can. Best wishes for you and your mom.

wow, the strong woman theme is popular in TV shows and movies right now, but there are lots of strong women in real live. Cynthia , you are a good daughter and a good sister. I cant believe you fit a recap into your hectic, stressful weekend.I am keeping you and yours in my thoughts and prayers.

My strong , handsome dad could not walk for the last two years of his life. He was so depressed because he had had such an active life. It was hard to watch him and feel helpless. My mother lived to be 90 and remained sharp as a tack and feisty despite smoking, never exercising, and not eating very healthy. She was a tiny firecracker . When my dad died, I escaped into Highlander the TV series. When my mother died, I escaped into telenovelas . It is good to have respite from care giving and grief.

Gawd, the only station which does not have pre-SUPER BOWL stuff on 6 hours before the game is the local educational station.

Does PBS actually stand for Peanut Butter Sandwich?

Kirby, yeah, Peanut Butter Sandwich. But a search also turned up:

Public Broadcasting System
Pretty Boring Stuff
Plainly Beats Sominex
Pledge Break System
Plutocrat Broadcast Service

And a few others that are overly political. But the Number 1 meaning is:

Pink Bunny Slippers <-- my fave!

Full disclosure: I like PBS, Sesame Street mostly.

Thank You Mister Neuman. I can always count on the patio. I mean, who needs Wikipedia?

" Mercy Street" is on PBS here. It is a pretty good show about a Civil War hospital in Virginia.... Kind of a Civil War telenovela.

Sesame Street is hard to beat if you have the shoes for it !

Cynthia Hampton – Thank you for your recap. Family emergency is always more important than recaps. Plz don’t worry! I hope you mother will be okay.

Lupe = FFWD The guy is a domineering control freak. Run, Renee, run!!!

I finally watched this episode this afternoon, nothing more to add to the fantastic comments here already. Busy weekend. Now going to SuperBowl party so I can eat and suffer thru the game, for the commercials. The Budweiser one makes hubby and me sort of weepy; very touching.

What happened ? ? ?

Or....not old...just young for a loooong time .

Doris...we saw the Clydesdales years ago at Busch GArdens. I love them and also FResians. So majestic

Cynthia, we truly appreciate all you do for the patio. Your dedication and commitment are undoubtedly admired. Thank you so much for bringing us this excellent fully detailed recap with your amazing screenshots.

I don't have much to add to the great comments already made.

Tono is a sleeze bucket with, as Kirby said, probably lots of BO...and BS...sorry Ana but that is my opinion of the character and I'm sticking to it.

Loopy is pathetically blind or refuses to see Renee's tense body language and looks. Renee needs to get rid of her Too Nice Syndrome before she gets in too deep with Loopy.

ANifer = adorable smart kid.

Mau has a gold mine in Anifer and knows it, but I hope he thinks of her well being and education before anything else.

Well, I'm sure everyone is watching the Super Bowl...something that just doesn't interest me...Hallmark, here I come!

Careful, I talked bad about Loopy/Snoopy and got yelled at and called names.
No Southern teams in the Slumber Bowl. Eagles, Well, OK look at my avatars.

Finally got a look at the new babies in the nest I have been watching, as I had seen parents, but never the babies yet. Then today there they were, ready for their first Olan Mills. Which one you think is the girl? :-)

Andy, do you know how, (if you'd care to) see these avatars much larger?
Click on it, then at my page, click the same avatar again and you will see the full size.

Well, i suppose the girl is the one that is nagging at the one that looks like he just ate crow, huh?

Thanks for the eagles, Kirby, much more interesting than the ones on TV...IMO :-)

I think the one in the foreground is the first hatched. I have seen (him) for the past few days, but not her. Then he was tearing into a fish or something today, and suddenly her head peeked up like "Hey, gimme a bite of that, you hog !"

SusanLynn has to be moonwalking and turning backflips about now.

Moonwalking is pretty safe; backflips? Uhmmm if she’s doing those I want her secret :-D

Kirby, thank you very much. No, I didn't know; I had been to your page twice but had not figured it out, so I just squinted and made out what I could from the postage stamp size avatars. The moon shot was impressive even in small size, but now I could see what the birds were carrying away, etc. A lot of excellent nature photography in the collection!

Thanks everyone! I am getting pretty tired of Lupe's intrusiveness with Renee. To me, he is just overbearing and very controlling. I do not like men who are controlling, they are a real turn off.

Tono is trying to be a fun daddy who is all fun and no discipline. He wants to please his kids because he thinks it is less work because he is basically lazy. Don't know why Veronica puts up with this. But she is ever faithful and supportive no matter what.

Little Anifer sure is smart and most likely a genius. She is smarter than all the other characters here, lovable as they might be, but Anifer....she is precious.

Thanks for all your well wishes about my mother. I hated to have to go home (it's a 1000 mile round trip) but I know she is in a good convalescent care home. Today I found out she was able to take 20 steps! I am so glad because I was so afraid she was really going to dig her heels into the ground and not cooperate. It is difficult for her as a widow, 84 years old and has dementia. But maybe it's a good thing she can't remember her fall or her surgery. :)

Hooray! Finally got to see one of your pics full size. I have never been able to make out details on the wee ones. Thanks for the tech advice Kirby.

Cynthia, glad you are home safely, although I completely understand your reluctance to leave your mother. The news is encouraging. It sounds as though your mother is made of strong stuff. And I do honestly believe that sometimes what we forget can be and is a blessing. Speaking of...I will echo RgvChick in being grateful and appreciative of all your dedication and hard work.

Kirby, the eagle has landed. What a truly amazing shot!!! Breathtaking.

RgvChick, my days of backflips are over. Come to think of it, they never even began! :) Moonwalking, yup. I'll say one thing for us Jersey girls, we can move.

I congratulate Susanlynn and all the Eagles fans for a job well done. We New Englanders are licking our wounds a bit. But there is always next year. Still trying to figure out why Malcolm Butler was benched...

Diana

Good morning, all. We had a bit of snow and ice last night , so schools are in a two hour delay.
I used to do cartwheels and flips , I never mastered the backflip. I actually did not see the end of the game because I went to bed at ten.(We get up at 530 on weekends.) The first thing Hubba said when the alarm went off this morning was "They won.!") I was glad for Hubba because he had a bad day yesterday. He went to check the farmhouse and discovered that a water pipe had broken in the kitchen ceiling. He had a mess to deal with. I have the best husband in the world. Not a good weekend.

Eagles' fans are crazy. Philly is going nuts.

RE: Malcolm Butler...As Al Michaels said last night "Getting anything out of Belichick is akin to getting something out of East Germany before the wall came down."

So Nobody, including Butler, knows why he took a seat.

OT Judy, as I understand it, there are left and right arrows to thumb through my avatars, as they are kept by Mother Google.

OMG Susy, frozen pipes, tire chains, snow shovels, salt and cinders, frozen fingers, dead grass, dead batteries, gasline antifreeze, been there, done that, never again. It takes a more hearty soul than me to live in that frozen hell on earth.

My first house in the Tundra was on a dead end street at the foot of a little hill. I was the only house on that little section, so they never plowed my short street. So to get out, I had to head out my driveway, and turn UP this fairly steep hill. So even if I backed the car in the night before so that I could 'launch' from the dry garage, it benefited me none, in that when I tried to turn right up the street all motion halted. Just shoot me.

Susanlynn, sounds like your hub had a lot to deal with yesterday.

Years ago, I never understood the allure of a warm climate year round. Christmas without snow? Shiver...

But now I yearn for warmth as soon as the temps drop below 40. I was a hearty New Englander in the past, now, simply a reluctant, less tolerable one.

Diana

Yes, I am less tolerable I'm sure, but meant to say tolerant. :)

Diana

We've got ice under snow this morning. Dying to go out and try my new spiked boots to see whether I can shovel the driveway without doing a face plant this morning, but we'll see.

Susanlynn, I ended up watching the whole game and of course was rooting for the underdog. Pretty thrilling that a backup quarterback, who once thought of quitting, actually got to go home with a Superbowl ring. Still, the refs need to decide for once and for all what's a run, what's a completed pass, and what's a fumble. I was happy with the way the officiating went, but were I a Patriots fan, I'd be a little cranky this morning.

And sorry Diana. I know you love your Pats. And I'm rather fond of cranky old curmudgeon Bill Belicheck (sp?). But you've won a bunch already.Time to let someone else into the winner's circle.

Bill is inscrutable. One never knows what he is thinking and as Kirby noted, he never says what he is thinking. It's all in "the vault".

I share your fondness for him Judy. And I give Philly kudos for their fierceness and determination. It paid off.

Diana

The Vault..that's good. I don't like him. I still haven't forgiven Brady for marrying Gazelle either though. !

Tono seems to be wanting to be his children's friend on permanent vacation, rather than do any actual parenting. A common mistake made by lazy parents.

Alfredo, these parents are all struggling with different issues. The reality is that parenting is always a struggle even if you have a supportive partner. Plus, life today is scary and confusing , especially for young people . I think the most important thing a parent can do is let their children know that they love them no what happens and forever. My daughter gave me bath gel called UNconditional LOve for Christmas because she knows that she has mine. I do not watch CET, but Raquel gave a good answer.

Has JOrge's wife contacted her children at all ?

If you did not watch SNL on SAturday, google " SNL FEb3, 2018 Tina Fey " for a funny skit about the SUper bowl.Tina FEy grew up near PHilly and has the PHilly accent down. She sounds like my nieces and nephews!

Cynthia, how blessed your mother is to have a daughter like you. Wishing all the best for your mom's recovery and for your family. I can't believe you created this most excellent recap over such a difficult weekend.

What is going on?”

Good grief, I didn't realize Lupe was this snoopy. But I've got to lay some blame on Renee for not putting her foot down.

Jorge at least tries to get advice for handling his situation. It's just too bad his advisor is the out-of-touch priest. Maybe he should try that Tía Chata that called him on the phone instead.

Niece, I think "Tia Chata" is Jorge's old girlfriend, who was allegedly the start of the marital problems between him and Dulce. So, er, maybe not...But...he probably will call her.

JudyB, Oh no, the old girlfriend? Bad Jorge.

A creep? No but Pushy yes. He did over step his boundaries, but i blame Renee for not telling him No. She needs to tell him that she doesn't want a relationship at this time and they can go on being friends. He is a good guy but not for her, especially if the writers have her destined for someone else. I just don't want him painted as a bad person or made the antagonist for the sake of pushy her towards Mauricio. In MMTF Daniela was dating Benjamin even though she was destined to be with Gabriel but they didn't make Benjamin a bad guy. Daniela just said she wasn't into him and there Benjamin backed off. Renee has to do the same thing here. STOP LEADING HIM ON!!! He has asked you plenty of times if she actually wanted a relationship with him even though he's pushing for one. Lupe is a grown man and can take rejection and he has a right to know if he's wasting his time. He has asked her that specifically before. Come on!

Appreciate the nice, respectful,"mature" responses i got from you ladies on the last post. Thank you! made me feel welcomed to have insightful discussion about the novela.

Ana, I agree that Renee should tell Lupe "no." And I agree that he is not necessarily a creep, but he is "hounding" her and taking advantage of the fact that she just lost her mother (IMO). He also keeps bringing up how Renee's mother would be happy that they are seeing each other as more than friends. That does not sit well with me.

JudyB, do you think Tia Chata is a code name for Yuriria who is the woman Dulce accused Jorge of having an affair with? BTW Yuriria's character will be played by none other than Marisol del Olmo...I do hope she left the pigtails at the Ramon set! Can't wait to see her!

Hi Ana, Glad you felt welcome here because YOU ARE! The more the merrier and it's always good to have a diversity of opinion about characters and what the writers are doing with them. And I know it helps me to have to analyze and defend just what I like or don't like about a certain role being played. We come from different places and have different insights. All good.

RGV Chick...yeah, color me cynical but as soon as Jorge refused to tell his daughter who Tia Chata was, I figured it had the be the old flame. Some random relative would not have elicited the same furtiveness. But...just my opinion. Could be wrong. We shall see!

correction: had to be the old flame Still have a food hangover from the Super Bowl

Susanlynn - I saw that SNL skit for super bowl and liked it a lot!

My favorite ad during superbowl was the Eli Manning/Dirty Dancing. OMG! LOL!!! Caught us all off guard. If you did not see it,google it because its all over the inter tubes today.

Ana...This is a site where everyone can give his or her opinion without getting jumped on. It is a very nice place.

Doris..I just watched the Dirty Dancing. I love the movie. I wonder how they convinced those guys to do that. Love to see athletes dance !!!

I just saw that Susy. They said they had wires on the fellow who Manning lifted over his head. Whew !

And Thanks

Patrick Swayze didn't need wires to lift Jennifer Grey like that !!!! #classic

Susanlynn - Jennifer Grey weighs half what Odell weighs. LOL. Can't risk hurting Eli's back. 🏈🏈🏈
