Por Amar Sin Ley, 3/6/18 Chapter 2: I Accuse, or, Irreconcilable Differences

A car full of detectives have come to the church to announce that Carlos is being detained for questioning for the murder of Patricia The Hooker.  The cops won't wait for the ceremony to end or discuss the situation outside the building with the bride's attorney papa.  Alejandra interrogates Carlos immediately as it is evident he knows who she was.  He simply says it's a mistake and he'll clear it up as the cops drag him unceremoniously from the church with the entire group of legal eagles trailing concernedly behind.

Ali decides she's going to the police station to handle things herself, although Mama has asked her to stay.  "--Carlos has plenty of lawyers helping him already!"   (That's an understatement.)

Ricardo signals to Carlos that he'll be by to see what's what. Vega tells Ali's papi, Jaime that they've first got to find out who is behind the arrest warrant.

The autopsy report will state that she was strangled between 6 and 8 (AM?).  There was no evidence of a violent rape, but definitely sexual intercourse.  They will then look for DNA evidence "tying the suspect to the event."

Ali gives Alan the third degree on the way to the station.  She drags out of him that it was a bachelor party and Carlos stayed behind with one of the showgirls, Patricia.

Sra. Sonia Garcia, the administrado publico [sort of like the District Attorney] accuses Carlos of murder as he was the last know person with the victim.  Carlos defends himself stating that's not enough proof to hold him or to accuse him with.  And, if Grrrrcia doesn't back off she could lose her job over this, he warns her.  She says she has the testimony of the night manager.  He again insists he didn't do it and no, she wasn't attempting to blackmail him over their one night together.  He declares he's maintaining his right to remain silent [derecho a declarar].

In the lobby of the station, Vega, Jaime Ponce, Ali and Ricardo meet up.  Vega introduces Ricardo who says they are certain something can and will be done.  Alan comes back out and says nothing to be done for now.  Carlos has been put into a cell and wants to see Ali.

Meanwhile, one of the lesser lawyers has a dinner date at his apartment that fizzles when his girlfriend says she's out of town unexpectedly and cannot come over after all.  We expect she's lying or got cold feet.

Back in his cell Carlos speaks with Ali.  She demands to know if he slept with the "dancer".  Errrrrrrr..........

Alan tries to explain there's been a mistake, that Carlos Ibarra is one of the most respected lawyers in the country when Jaime comes in and reprimands him, trying to make points with Grrrcia.  She says she's the one in control of this case and has plenty enough to charge Carlos with murder and will.  It is going to trial.

Vega tells Jaime they know what they can expect.  Alan wants to defend his cousin and refuses help from Vega's office.

Carlos tries squirming out of answering what Ali is asking "not as his fiancee but as a lawyer": did he sleep with her or not???  "--That is the least of it.  What's important is that I love you!"  He would never do anything to hurt her!  She's the love of his life.  She's not in the mood.  She walks out on him.

Ali tells her dad if Carlos isn't getting out today they're cancelling the wedding, natch.  Ricardo explains Alan is taking the case.  Vega offers his assistance if wanted.  Ricardo is ordered to stay and give her whatever help she needs.

Back among the cells, Alan tries getting any detail.  "--Search your memory for any little thing you can about that night."  Carlos swears again he'd never do such a thing and he's convincingly innocent.  Alan admits this isn't his specialty.  (Well then why don't you get a lawyer who is a murder case specialist???  Dope!) Carlos says he was really drunk.  Alan informs him it's already going to trial.  The night manager is testifying against him then, says Carlos.  "They have videos" or something?  This is just a mess and he blames Alan for getting him into this jam by having those women show up at the party.

In the lobby one of the SJW lawyers tells Ali to buck up.  She asks Ricardo to get her out of there.  They walk into a buzz saw of reporters in the hallway.

In the car she cries on Ricardo's shoulder.  They mention they are both family law attorneys.  They need a murder trial specialist.

Meanwhile, Olivia and Victoria enjoy a few drinks and a heart-to-heart at a fast paced nightclub.  Vicki doesn't want to be tied down in a relationship, especially since nobody so far been worth the effort.  Oli agrees about men, but she thinks finding Mr. Right is her desired path.  Where is he already?

Ricardo takes Ali home to her parents and makes big points with her and them for taking care of her during the hubbub.  Afterward they go up to her room and give her the big buck up and we love you speech.

At the club once more, the ladies meet up with the company playboy.  They give each other crap over not changing their stated position on relationships.  Vicki won't date him and he then won't stop playing the field.

At Carlos's jail cell, Alan keeps trying to get Carlos to come up with some one detail that might throw the case.  "--Was the door left open?  Could somebody else have killed her?"  Carlos is desperate because he cannot. "--Look for a witness at the time I left.  Do you honestly think I would have seemed so calm if I'd killed somebody?" "--Find who you have to to get to the bottom of this; but get me out of here! "

The next morning the Vega staff of lawyers discuss a motivation for a murder in general.  "--Usually if there's murder it was because the doer was afraid of something.  Just saying.  Not necessarily but if Carlos knew her."  They discuss the next cases: Vicki says the firm is representing a husband and wife who he beat up.  They won't defend his physical abuse but they are defendig him--or some such. (Did I get that right????)

Ali and Jaime attend Carlos's trial.  He left the hotel at around the same time the victim died. Grrrcia says they have proof he was getting ready to flee the country.  Carlos screams through the bars that he was going on his honeymoon!  He is innocent!!  Ali looks sheepishly at the floor hoping, perhaps, that it would swallow her.  Alan, meanwhile, does little to interrupt Grrrcia with objections.

Roberto (Meatball Face) hits on Vicki again.  He wants to got out on a date.  She doesn't date, she tells him.  She only likes casual sex, period.  Perfect.  Nope.  Not somebody she wants sex with we assume.  Ain't happenin' bud.

Alan argues that nobody saw him actually commit the murder.  He left the place, unlike a guilty person, calm and collected.  And, the man has a clean reputation.  People knew he was about to get married and leave on his honeymoon.  Grrrcia now adds the lab results: there were traces of seminal fluid in the victim's vaginal tract that belonged to the accused.  Alan raises the point that it was a bachelor party and just because he had sex with her doesn't necessarily mean he killed her.  The judge says it's enough to hold him in prison till the DA can find incontrovertible proof of his guilt.  The guards drag Carlos away screaming that he's innocent and professing his love for Ali.

Ricardo buys another bunny for his step-daughter.  HIs secretary figures the ex won't like it.  She then tells Ricardo he's got a client who wants to be his very last appointment that afternoon.  He doesn't want to be seen.  It's dealing with father's rights of child custody.

Alan says Carlos will be comfortable in jail and is innocent. She says yeah, he's innocent of murder, but not of infidelity.  She's done with him. She's going to the jail/prison with Alan to tell him that once and for all.

Meanwhile, Leo and Rob discuss how Carlos, innocent or not--but most likely not--is in an impossible situation.  Leo does bring up that the possibililty of another man--jealous lover, a stalker, a criminal type who had it in for her--needs to be explored and brought to light.  There's no such thing as a perfect crime, says Rob, but well, he's then a victim of what seems like one.

At the prison, Carlos pleads innocence and drunkenness.  Ali agrees to both and says she's dissapointed, feels betrayed (humiliated?).  NO, if he really loved her he wouldn't have slept with another woman no matter what!  I trusted you and you broke my heart.  I don't know how to fix any of this.

Ricardo arrives at Elena's to give his little girl another rabbit.  Elena objects since she's going to have to be the one to care for it and clean up after it.  Life is full of "shite happens" so you shouldn't have brought her another; Ricardo says a child is sensitive and it's all about showing her life gives us "second chances."  "--Oh but I didn't get one!" (Ten Points For Team Hypocracy and the Opponent scores as well!) " --One has nothing to do with the other.  You were the one who left me first!  I'm leaving, ok?"

Back at the prison visiting room, Ali says she's just not in the mood to go on.  He begs forgiveness.  How could he live without her love?  They had great times together.  She has got to bellieve him.  She doesn't want to commit to never seeing him again, but in the end she walks out on him.  She has a big cry as he screams for her to come back and not to abandon him.

Gracias, Jardinera.

I wonder whether Carlos is being set up (since we didn't see what happened) but the fact that he cheated on Alejandra is enough reason for her to cancel the wedding. He could have ended up with an STD.

Giving Natalia a new bunny is probably a mistake. It's not that the child won't love it; she obviously does. It's how Elena will mishandle this. Re a comment from yesterday's discussion, I have no idea what Mexican law says about stepparents adopting the children of spouses, but Elena wouldn't care about his rights in that situation. For her "It's all about me Me ME!" I'll bet that she (and the wife in the settlement case before the judge in the estreno) is a spoiled trust-fund brat who never had to work a day in her life and was never interested in anything she would have to do on her own.

More later.

Regarding Victoria Escalante's feuding clients, what I understood was that the law firm was representing both of them in the divorce, but sometime during this the husband began to physically hurt the wife and so Victoria threatened him that no one in the firm would legally defend his physical abuse. But isn't representing both clients in the first place a conflict of interest?

I feel bad for Natalia's new bunny. Apart from Elena's anger at Ricardo, it's obvious that she doesn't seem to like animals.

Alan seems to know more than he's letting on.

It's only a conflict of interest if there are major conflicts over property or child custody. A no-fault divorce doesn't need opposing counsel if both parties are in agreement and there are no major financial entanglements to unravel.

Elena doesn't love her own children, so I can't see her appreciating animals.

Hi Urban. Thanks. " (and the wife in the settlement case before the judge in the estreno" wasn't that Juan's girlfriend Perla in Vino el Amor?

Who is the new poor lawyer?

Didn't Patricia mention having a boyfriend/fiance in the first episode? Has anyone questioned him?

Ricardo should've asked Elena's permission to get Natalia a new bunny.

I watched last night. The way Gil was crying and emoting in Jail, it seems as though he is innocent and being framed by someone .

Kirby...Perla and Juan in Vino...was Juan the cop? I cannot picture Perla !! #toomanytelenovelas

Kirby, you are right; that is the same actress. I just checked IMDB. However, since episode titles are published there, don't go there if you want to avoid spoilers.

Anon207, the new lawyer is apparently a public defender. As for Patricia, I doubt there was a boyfriend. I would be more inclined to think that she had a nice cubic zirconia mounted in vermeil that she would wear to fend off jerks when she isn't working and to use in this situation to put herself on equal ground with Carlos... and other bachelor party guests of honor. What man in his right mind would marry a hooker?

As for Ricardo asking Elena's permission for anything? Game over. She has thrown him out of her life because he won't cater to her ridiculous demands. Having typed that I realize that she probably ran off the father(s) of her children for the same reason. Or he wised up faster than Ricardo did and ran. It's early, but I think it's possible that she has a zero-sum mentality about love and thinks that any love these kids feel for Ricardo is love that is taken away from her. She can't handle that.

Juan was Gab Soto's bestie. The backstabber who hated Gabe because he and his Father supposedly cheated his Dad out of the land.

Perlqa was his little skankie GF

Perla.

Thanks Urban. I'd recognize that little shrew anywhere. Almost the same girl she played in Vino.

Kirby...okay..thanks. Juan the weasel , Dave's best frenemy. Perla was his sexetary. #memories

Um...HOW long ago was Vino? :-) :-) :-)

I cheated. I looked it up

It doesn't matter how nasty Elena is, Ricardo should've asked her permission to give Natalia an animal. That's Elena's house & she's going to end up having to care for it since Ricardo isn't there anymore. While he was trying to do a nice thing for Natalia, it was very inconsiderate of Elena and her house.

Thanks, Jardinera.

My take is Carlos is innocent of murder and does love Alejandra, but would've most definitely had sex flings after marriage -- just cause he's that way. I'm thinking somebody set him up. I don't trust his cousin Alan cause he should've been getting a criminal lawyer for his cuz from the start.

Ricardo figures the household already had a bunny and was running fine, so a new bunny would fit right in. He doesn't realize his ex likely did in the original bunny. That little girl is old enough to feed and clean the cage herself. When I was younger than her, my godmom gave me a puppy without asking my parents beforehand. Luckily, we all like pets.

In this country, the father would have to sign over his rights to the kids in order for Ricardo to have adopted them. I gather the father took off and there's been no contact with him.

That's what Elena said, but I am not sure we should believe her. Everything she does is about herself, so she will say whatever paints others in a negative light.

Since we don't know how long this series will be and we're only in the first week, I wonder whether this man will ever turn up.

Jardinrea I saw the episode but you
Made it real by translation thank you for that.

Carlos, such a stupid man. He blames
Alan for bringing the hos, but alan didn't make him stay. He knew he was getting married the next day, don't he
Know how to pronounce the word "NO".
Every groom that does something this
Stupid the night before their wedding
Deserve this hard lesson. And Alan and
That stupid opening argument," just because he had sex with her does not mean he killed her". Oh what a stupid thing to say while the fiance`is there
Sittin next to dad.And screamin te amo
While being drug away is pretty much
Useless after your brilliant lawyer had announced fiance had sex but he
just didn't kill her. Oboy what a big
Releaf that was. Didn't killer her but
Pretty much killed the relationship with the ex fiance.

I got a good look at that airhead lady
David married, she don't seem to smart.
Forgiveness is good, and he will maybe forgive her later, but she shouldn't be
Surprised he dumpin her butt cuz she cheated, and gonna make the children suffer. Did the first husband die or
Just got sick of her? And did she use
The kids against him like she's doing
David? She gonna get really ugly when
She see him getting interested in Ali.

The dos and don't of dating discussion
Should get interesting as things move
Along. Guys chasing girls until the girls catch them, and vice versa.

Thank you Jardinera654. ya'll try to stay warm in the north. Winter is gonna bite us for the Next 2 days here in The northern regions of florida.
Lucky for me I like cold weather. And
Spring is about 2 and a half weeks away.
One more thing, about that bunny wabbit
Situation....before any parent give a
Pet to a child they should talk to that child atleast a month before said pet comes into the house, let them know Mommy and Daddy will not be the ones cleaning the cage you better clean the cage and if it appears that you can't clean it, the pet has got to go. And mean it. They'll get it when they See you mean business. David and Elena Obviously didn't do that. So she will probably get stuck cleaning up wabbit poop.

Hi kirby, how you doin? Still takin those beautiful pictures I see.

NiNaaaaa. Hey crazy girl. Nice to see you. I have been reading your comments. I was hee hawing about your comment 'Whacked the Wabbitt.

And she'll probably wack this wabbit.
She got jelly for brains. He probably should have asked before bringing one
More defenceless bunny into that house
But let's face it, he may have just done to set her off. But the wabbit'll
Pay for it.

Elena has said several times that her children's father ran out on them and never knew them, was never interested in them. Since the kids are two years apart in age I'm wondering whether they had different fathers. Like I said before, I'm not prepared to take her word for it.

That she had Ricardo for ten years and he was a good father to her kids was more than most women would ever think to ask for. She should have appreciated him, but she clearly didn't.

I think I would have tried very hard to make that marriage work. Especially
A man that loves my kids as if they were his blood. I wonder if she tried to talk to him about how she was feeling. And did he see the signs of
Infidelity?I don't remember if she con
-fessed or he found out some how.

Based on what little dialogue there was about it, I think he found out after she had lied to him about it. However, since she had lied about it he has adequate reason to walk.

Watch her behavior. You can see how she manipulates men and shows how she lacks respect for them as well as for herself. No mentally healthy man puts up with this crap once he recognizes it.

UA: She's a master manipulator alright.

the excitement i'm feeling just watching this novela...thank you for the recap
