Por Amar Sin Ley, 3/7/18 Chapter 3: All For A Day's Pay

At the jailhouse: Alejandra cries buckets full at the realization that Charismatic Carlos, now taking residence in the clinker for murder most foul, was really not the man for her.  Why me??????  She'll get over it eventually says Daddy.  Throw yourself into your work -what impassions you.  Daddy gives her a difficult and intriguing case to distract her.  She's betrayed and wants little to do with Carlos but it pulled at her heartstrings to see him behind bars, she admits.   Mama later agrees passionate distracting tasks are the best medicine getting over big disappointments in life.

Speaking of intriguing cases: Ricardo Bustamante meets his mystery client.  It is a he-turned-she and Ric does all he can to be non-judgmental when hearing the would-be client's request for paternity rights of a child born prior to Daniel/Daniela's sex change.

Ale next morning has coffee with the client from the intriguing case.  8 years ago Ms. Client dated a guy for many months and he broke it off then left to live in another country.  She later found out she was preggers. She didn't hear a word from the baby-daddy till recently.  He wants to give his name to the child and receive parental rights.  However, Ms. Client says she doesn't want the kid to find out like this.

Sr. Morales informs Alan that he's taking his business elsewhere.  He's not going to be associated with a firm the likes of Carlos Ibarra's.  Evidently all Ibarra's clients feel the same way. And when Alan later visits Carlos he tells him this.

Ale has a meeting with Ric.  It turns out that Ms. Client and Daniel/a are their two opposing clients.  His position: no matter the sex change, he's a biological parent and has the right to know and provide for the kid; her position: the kid's only 8 years old and the mother wants to avoid a psychologically jarring (to say the least) situation--at least until the child reaches the age of majority (18).  Besides, her client is financially well off and doesn't need financial assistance of her child at all.  Ric offers a meeting to see if things can be worked out amiably prior to a trial.

Rob and Leo are discussing Morales' sexual harassment case and Leo states he won't take the case if he believes the guy is guilty.  They have earlier noticed Ale and wonder who she must be.  Ric advises them later in the coffee shop that she's the opposing counsel for a paternity rights case involving a transsexual dad.  Going to lose this one, they tell Ric.  He adds, unless he can find an impartial specialist to give a positive opinion which might sway things his way.

Olivia and Leticia quibble over how to handle a case re: child support.  They are on opposite ends of the scale in their treatment of the client and the case.  Letti's by the book and says ask for just what's standard.  Oli is all out for the client and wants to squeeze as much out of the father as possible, for the children's sake.

Letti gets a call from Elena and it seems they are still close despite the divorce and Elena's being squeezed out of her place as wife of an associate of Vega Legal.

Ale visits Carlos later in the day.  He manages to put her at ease and she tells him about her case against Ric and his client.  We suppose he gives her legal advice.

Rob takes a case dealing with a plastic surgeon.  I didn't catch all the details, but the doctor's reputation is at stake.  The stick thin, 6 ft. plus model's chest "adjustment" results are perfecto.  He gets the patient and the doc's name and phone no.  The patient gives Rob the hairy eyeball and models his/her (cannot be certain--especially after the special effects on Ric's client) accoutrements off to a tee.

Leo refuses to take the case of Sr. Morales--who is apparently less than what his sir-name suggests-- when he catches the man in a lie which contradicts his taken position and the supposed facts.  No amount of money will make Leo change his mind.  The rich and powerful Sr. Morales threatens him with a nasty glance and a pointer finger in the shape of a gun before leaving.

Ale arrives with Ms. Paternity Rights Case Client, Nuria, at Ric's office for the meeting.  Nuria is disgusted and shocked to have to face him, especially in this uncomfortable situation.  (Queezy doesn't begin to describe this side of Viewerville's sensations about now.  It is totally stretching my ability to cope, let alone to ponder the freek nature of this showy showdown.  IMNSHO)  Bottom line, Ric says Daniel/a wants not just a right to adopt/declare the kid, but to have shared custody.  Nori says no way!  The kid wouldn't be able to cope, not to mention she doesn't need any financial assistance from Bio Dad.  "--Meet you in court!"

Ale and Ric are in the parking ramp discussing their case as Rob and Benjamin are discussing something else on the other side of the aisle.  Benji's distraught client from the other day that Ben blew off pulls a gun on the two of them and shoots wildly, hitting Leo.  Police come and take Mr. Mad Client, Mendez, off to jail.  The ambulance takes Leo.  The whole Vega group end up at the hospital eventually.

On the way there, Oli admits to Victoria that she's in love with Leo.  Vicki tells her if she's determined to declare herself to him then wait till at least tomorrow when he's stable.  (Duh.)

Letti arrives and immediately races over to Benji.  They hug and kiss like the lovers they are.  They are going to work together to make sure Madman Menendez spends the rest of his life behind bars for trying to kill him.

Elena learns of the shooting and races to the hospital.  She finds Ric with Ale and gets jealous immediately.  She tells Ale this hospital vigil is pretty much just for the members of the law firm and Ale is odd woman out.   Ale doesn't realize that Ric is newly divorced from Elena.

Alan informs Carlos that although there are no witnesses who saw anyone else enter or leave Patricia's room, there is nothing solid to convict him over, either.  Carlos asks Alan to check in and give him all the information he can about Ric Bustamante's case.  He's apparently the opposing counsel in Ale's current case and he wants Ale to come out on top, not to mention he doesn't want her getting any romantic ideas about Ric; once Carlos is let go he wants to reclaim his relationship with her!

After helping her mom and Momma's friends send back all the wedding gifts, Ale packs up her wedding gown and takes off her wedding ring to put away for good.  She cries bitter tears and feels like a complete loser which we all know she is not.

Elena offers Ric a lift home and plots to get closer to him in hopes of reclaiming him.  She tells him she's thought better about things and realizes the kids love him as much as she still does and he can come see the kids as often as he likes.  Bitterness should be forgotten.  He takes her at her word.

Olivia, Vicki, Rob and Gustavo have dinner out together once they've left the hospital.  They plan to help cover Leo's cases. FF >>FF>>

Oli comes to visit Leo in the hospital with a big bear and baloons.  She's about to declare her feelings when Leo's novia, Ana, walks in.  They are introduces and Oli is respectful of the relationship and keeps her mouth good and shut.

Ric receives a delivery from the cleaners.  He notices there is the garter that he'd picked up in the church the day of the wedding.  As he looks at it he enjoys pleasant memories of a smiling Alejandra.

Poor Olivia!

Poor Leonardo!

Unless Letizia is married to Benjamin, she and Benjamin are cheaters. This goes to what I said the other day: Benjamin probably thinks his wife wouldn't cheat on him and would never leave him for his cheating.

Hoes of a feather flock together and this is why Letizia & Elena are friends.

Elena. So manipulative. So predictable. Cute shoes, though.

I see Alejandra will have at least 2 rivals when she eventually joins Vega & Friends.

I've never seen trans issues on a novela before. I hope everything works out positively for Daniela.

BTW, Daniela is portrayed by a male actor.

Benjamin probably thinks that his wife is too stupid to suspect that he is cheating on her... and I'll bet that she would never think that he would cheat at the office.

It is up. I will not apologize for any of my feelings expressed within. I tried keeping them to a minimum. PC ain't my style and all who know me know this. I am not surprised Uni with this generation of writers has brought in this Daniel/a business, but since they have and I am committed to recapping I will continue with the tn. Needless to say, I am siding with the ex-girlfriend on this one.

Thanks, Jardinera.

I love Ricardo's bedside (uh, lawyer-side) manner. Objective, nonjudgmental, though he was most definitely suppressing his surprise. I say wait till the kid is old enough to understand (16?, 17?), but before then find a way for the bio-dad and kid to bond as friends. I know, there's no legal mumbo-jumbo for what I just said.

Can't help it, I vote Elena best dressed in this TN.

I'm re-thinking my original thought that Alan set up Carlos. Alan doesn't seem savvy enough for that or to keep the law practice going on his own.

Alan doesn't seem Alpha male enough for me either to have thought this whole frame him to take over the business plot. He could just be a victim of circumstance; the hooker was engaged she said. Her goony boyfriend could have murdered her in a crime of passion--or his boss for some reason. But I do believe he has been framed.

Despite almost being married to the murder suspect, Alejandra shows interest in Ricardo. When going over the wedding gifts, she noticed a card with Elena and Ricardo’s names on it. And she mutters “Of course he’s married, it couldn’t be any other way.” You would think she could have assumed that when seeing the photo of his kids in the office.

Has it been cleared yet why Carlos doesn’t like Ricardo? He glared at him in the church too. Were they rivals at some point?

Olivia was going too fast. She should have said something way sooner or waited for his full recovery at least, as Victoria suggested. Looks like she won’t get to say anything at all now.

Gracias, Jardinera.

I completely agree with you about Alan not being alpha enough to run the firm. However, I think he isn't smart or self-aware enough to know that. I can see him having even more arguments with Carlos about this.

I also think that Alan has to be truly stupid to not realize that he can't -- and shouldn't even if he could -- handle this case. It's not his specialty for one, and if he thinks he's smart enough to deliberately mishandle it in order to lose and get Carlos out of his way, I'm sure there will be somebody to figure that out. It's interesting that we have not yet seen anyone else from that firm come forward to take the case.

Thus far the only married lawyers at Vega y Associados are Gustavo and Benjamin. Hope we meet their wives soon.

Does anyone else think that Anna Maria is too young for Leonardo?

Kids understand a lot more than we give them credit for these days. Nuria/Daniela's son at 16-18 may be very angry at Daniela for staying away, only to then learn that Nuria went to court to keep away from his father.

Under no circumstances should Daniela have joint custody of the child, because Daniela has not been a part of the child's life for 8 years. Doesn't matter if Daniela stayed away for 8 years or didn't know the child existed for 8 years. Same thing goes for Federico/Natalia's father(s).

At the same time, Daniela should not be banned from the child's life until he is 18. If Nuria's objection to Daniel being in the child's life is because he is now Daniela, she's not going to stop objecting to it when the kid turns 18. He may be very, very angry at Nuria for denying him the chance to get to know his father and his father's side of the family.

So they need to consult with a child psychologist to get an evaluation to see how to handle this. I think a face to face meeting now is a little too much for the kid, and not just because Daniela is transgender, but because the child doesn't know his father, has been living without his father and now all of a sudden you're thrusting a father on him PLUS the father is now another mother.

I think probably the best way to go is to gradually introduce the child to Daniela. Maybe they don't meet face to face for a few years but they exchange cards and letters to get to know one another. If this was Nuria's approach, I'd back her but I think Nuria doesn't want her son in contact with Daniela at all, EVER.

Anon207, I think you're right about Nuria's intention and the likely outcome if she gets what she wants.

This made me think of something in the novel Waiting to Exhale (Warning that this is politically incorrect):

One of the four women is the single mother of a teenage boy whose father had once claimed to be bisexual but who recently declared himself as gay. She kept this from her son his entire life, as the father lived out of town and visited only once every year or so. One day she caught her son in flagrante delicto with a girl in his room and she freaked out. She threw the girl out and scolded at her son, finishing with "If your daddy weren't a f****t I'd send your black a** right to him!"

As soon as those words were out she caught herself and thought "Oh, sh**. Oh, sh**. Oh, sh**. Oh, sh**. Oh, sh**. Oh, sh**. Well, sh**. Too late now."

Before she could think of anything to say by way of damage control the boy said "Hey, at least it doesn't run in the family."

Since we didn't hear her thoughts in the film the book was better for this scene.

Interesting discussion but again I understand Nuria possibly having a lifelong objection if she doesn't think it normal. No way to assume a child would either. This is a sad situation to force a child into IMO. Just because her bio dad made the choice and science affords one the option doesn't, nor should it automatically be considered ok anymore than cloning humans, again, IMO

IMHO, the bio-fact that he's the father means the kid has a right to know who he is one day and decide if they want to have a relationship with him as a father. What I'm on the fence about is when. I'll leave that to the child psychologists.

Once her son is 18 Nuria's objection will have no legal standing. However, I doubt we're going to FF to that point.

According to something I just googled there are an estimated 1.4 million people in the USA who identify as transgender. As to an earlier comment, I think this is the first time we've had a transgender character in a TN.

Jardinera654 good recap.

I think I just might like the clients
In this tn more that the lawyers. Well
There's RIC and ale. That's where all
The interest is for me. The chemistry
There is already bubblin up. And they
Will have to fight their ex's. Which
Will be a nasty fight, cuz Carlos can
Not take NO for an answer,And Elena is
Will be a bitch. This should be fun to watch. Y'all saw that conniving look on her face when they hugged in the car. I wouldn't be surprised if she got herself knock up. By him.

The two opposing lawyers ric-vs-ale.
I'm with the ms client, what he/she
Wants is going to be hard. Maybe.
In a situation like this he/she is not
Thinkin very clearly about this child.
It's hard on kids to find out they got
Another parent that was absent from their life in normal circumstances but in this situation he comes in there with stiletto heels dressed like moma.
And momma is right, there will be some
Psychological things to consider, this is an 8 year old. Daddy comes in there dressed like Mama, He's going to be kind of confused, maybe in time he'll understand it but this man/woman seems to be in a hurry. What Daniel/a should have Done was Went to his baby moma first & introduced Himself as Daniela instead of just... how did she find out he was suing for shared custody? I
Think? Did she get one of those summons? or whatever they call it.

And that poor shlup that's gettin sued
For sexual harassment, he's as guilty
As sin.Carlos nor Alan are the lawyers he wants to help him out of the cow crap he's dived into cuz they're in it up to there gray roots too. Stupid sexual harassment person.

Well more fun tonight
Gracias jardinera

Hi Jardinera, thank you for recap and sharing your feelings.

I have question. « Murdered her in crime of passion-or his boss. «  What boss are you referring to????
Thank you.

Yes; I see your point.
