Andreas' probably didn't need a reason to take the money but seeing her husband console Eliza will be her excuse. The right thing to do would be to give Eliza her $ so she can move on ASAP...but that's now what the wife will do. She will keep the cash and then work hard to get Eliza out of the house so she won't find out about the cash.

Why the speculation that Max will die? I know its typical in a TN to knock of a player who could have helped resolve things right away as oppose to dragging things out...but why do we think its Max....I just hadn't thought about him. Maybe because I'm hoping he grows a pair and take care of both family issues. But if he's going to continue with this display of weakness...get rid of him ASAP. Good riddence.

General.

On another note, I read the Por Amar Sin Ley blog today. Seems like both Uni and Telemundo are both pushing the envelop and adding more trans/gay themes in their soaps. One blogger stated they didn't remember seeing that story line in a TN before. I wanted to comment and tell them they should have watched Tierra mi Sangre.

I don't have a personal opinion or stance on this but I've thought of Latin America as being pretty conservative on this social issue so I am surprised to see it almost back to back in TNs although opposing networks. Don't know if it's a changing of the tide or recognition of a bigger social reality.

Nett, others have said that Max forecasted his death by saying several times that he would give his life for Charlie.

Lado

Nett, the reason some of us think Max may die is that two or three times, so far, he has said "I would give my life for Charlie." Saying it once may not mean much, plotwise, but saying it more than once signals either very sloppy writing or a foreshadowing. Since there seems no apparent way to resolve his messy domestic situation, I'm assuming that his statement foreshadows his death. My prediction rate is quite abysmal, however, so....

I'm not surprised to hear that Telemundo is adding more gay/trans themes, since it has long seemed to me more modern than Univisión, but I am surprised to hear that Uni too is doing so.

Kat has posted detailed recaps through last night here,
http://5ftlatina.com/cohete/

novelera, Kat has been referring to Andres wife as Maria.

Lado

Novelera, I hope you're right about Eliza having a semi-protected status as Max's wife. They never mentioned how she was able to travel so easily and even Jennifer hasn't considered that Eliza has marital rights too.

Re: the gay/trans storylines...they're suddenly quite visible across the board ...with all races. Could be a change in power structure (producers, sponsors) or Hollywood giving the younger, more open generation what they want. That includes a new level of boldness in American programming that I've heard is the norm in Europe.

Lado - Cap. 11

Here's a bare bones recap. I hope everyone will fill in the details and the missing elements.

Eliza sees the note that Sofia left for her apologizing for all the harm she has brought to Eliza and her family. However, the box of money is not with the note.

Max wonders what's up with Steve. He finally calls Margot, Steve's wife. She says she hasn't heard from Steve in quite a while.

Joel and Patrick interview Senator Slimy, who is in bed recovering from his having fallen down the stairs. SS claims that Sofia tried to seduce him. She took off her clothes, came into his bedroom, said she'd do whatever he'd like, in exchange for money. She needed the money to get revenge on her husband.
He also claimed that when Sofia married Ernesto, SS's wife said that Sofia would bring Ernesto down. There were also problems in the past. The Senator said he didn't know the specifics. He didn't want to get involved. He also said that he found Sofia stealing his things. She then pushed him down the stairs. He's going to be operated on next week. It's not clear whether he'll ever walk again.

Patrick believes the Senator. Joel finds what the Senator has said troubling, but he also doubts that the Senator is telling the truth.

Eliza comes to see Sofia. She apologizes to Sofia for what she said to her. Sofia apologizes to her for the harm she has caused. Eliza suggets that they stay together and rebuild their lives. Sofia tells her she already has bus tickets to San Francisco. Eliza is suddenly ill. They go to see a doctor, and he tells Eliza that she's healthy...and 5 or 6 weeks pregnant! The most important thing, he tells her, is not to be stressed.

Max tells Jennifer that Margot is concerned about Steve and is going to arrive tomorrow morning. She has also asked Max to go to the police and let them know about Steve's disappearance so they can start looking for him.

Steve is told by the doctors that he has a brain aneurysm that could explode at any moment and cause serious brain damage. They have to operate ASAP.

Sofia and Eliza return to Andres' house after seeing the doctor. Eliza tells Sofia that she's afraid that she has lost Max. The house he bought is not in his name. The real estate agent told her only that it's been sold. Perhaps he's not the wonderful man she thought he was. She is going to stay in LA and start over from scratch. Sofia says that the $15,000 should help. Eliza asks "What $15,000?" Just then, Andres and Maria come in, and Maria, who had been tempted to keep the money, instead tells Eliza that Sofia left this box for her this morning. Eliza tells Sofia she can't keep the money, that Sofia needs it. Finally, Eliza says the only way she'll keep it is if Sofia stays in LA and they work together to rebuild their lives. Hugs.

Joel is in Los Angeles to deal with a funeral for his sister. He also goes to her apartment and sees a video she made, addressed to her fetus. Sobs.

Sofia calls Margarita to ask how things are, especially how is Julian. Margarita tells her that Julian is sad. Also, a man came to the house looking for Sofia. Ernesto wanted to kill him. The man was police of some sort, he was investigating, but he wasn't in uniform. Sofia thinks: "Joel!"

Lado

Oops, the recap is of capítulo 12, not 11.

Lado

thanks so much Juanita !!!

I think the letter from Sofia explains that this all happened because she tried to help a mother find her daughter, how nice of Eliza to forgive her, without knowing about the money.

Andres was speaking to his wife as Mari linda, she has never stolen anything he points out when she shows him the money, she knows how he looked at Sofia, yes he admits, but who does he love, hmm, but Mari linda sees that all is not how it seems with the cousins.

Tomas ?? or Santiago, is good at soccer, Alo wants to try out for the team.

ah, Sofia misses her bus taking Eliza to the hospital, well maybe you should stay, hmm ok, till you get past this rough spot. Eliza found a place to rent, we could bake there, that's how her mother started, with a bicycle.

surgery for Steve, would you like to call that lady?, no, she has enough on her plate.

so that was Irene's place, Pastrana got there first.

Margarita walking around the house talking to Sofia on the phone was driving me nuts, I like that actress, she is always so nice.

"LADO":

Deb: I'm worried for Margarita because if Ernesto or the Latina Doug Stamper find out.....

Juanita: Maria is PISSING me off. She still has the $$$$. Did she ever give it all back to Eliza ?

I've heard Jullye Gillberti is in this TN too.

"LADO":

Spanish Student: Max the WEAKLING forecasted his own death ?

This early ?

Lado

So Eliza has a bun in the oven. Does Max find out and does that make him grow a pair...we'll see. And you're all right...about I'll give my life for you....or nothing will separate us...famous last words in TN land. So now...how does Max bite the dust.

Maria Linda surprised me...I just knew she'd keep the money without even letting Andreas know. She has a good man....he's a keeper. She's right to have suspicions but not right to steal from anyone just because she's insecure or suspicious...glad she did the right thing.

So Joel is in LA...does he find a clue about Sofie and find her? Hopefully not anytime soon since he has the tracking device. Going to be interesting when they do reconnect because despite his love for her...seeds of suspicion have been planted in his mind...he'll act on them.

Ernesto still loves Sofie...and wants her back... He better find her before his lover does....or she's toast.

deb, thanks VERY much for your wonderful comments. You've added life-giving flesh to my skeletal, bare bones recap.

I'm mystified about why Pastrana went to Irene's apartment and what he did on her computer. I'm not even sure whether he planted stuff on it or took stuff from it. I think Irene had the info that Sofia brought her (Irene scanned it, I think, and put it on the DVD that Sofia took before she left). I have no idea whether that was what he was after. Perhaps Paula/Ernesto wanted to know what Irene might have included on the DVD?

Every time Sofia uses her cell phone to call what used to be home, I'm nervous. That was true last night when she called Margarita. I still find it hard to believe that a supposedly competent Interpol agent like Joel didn't warn her not to use her cell phone.

Lado

Thanks, Juanita, that was way more than bare bones and very much appreciated. And, deb, you always find something I missed!

I think Senator Slimy just made a big mistake with that tale of Sofía's supposedly coming naked to his room. He's put himself on Joel's radar. For some reason the writers had Joel not exactly react to that story. And the naked beauty queen tale was unnecessarily over-egging the pudding. All he had to say was that Sofía came to stay a while, stole some things, and then left. What a creep!

So they went with the usual. Fortunately for women from Latinamerica the only time they feel faint and/or nauseous it's because they're pregnant. We veterans don't even need the doctor to say so!

Once again we see the amazingly swift travel of both the good guys and the baddies. One minute Pastrana is viewing Márquez telling Joel and Patrick the results of the fake autopsy and the next he's putting a thumb drive into Irene's computer. Doubt he's a US citizen. How'd he get into the country so easily?

I was surprised when Sofía learned that Joel is alive. I was expecting her to think of him as dead up to and including the time jump.

Speaking of time jumps, I'm wondering how they'll do it. One of the best I ever saw was on Amor Real. After Mathilde is thrown out of the hacienda by Manuel, she moves to his town house. They show her walking through the streets and, scene by scene, her pregnant belly grows.

They sure did ramp up the suspense about the $15K over two episodes. But I knew that when Sofía actually told Eliza about the money, they'd have a nest-egg to start their new lives.

Lado and General

So far this week, we've had recaps for each new episode of Lado, but I don't think we can count on that being the case in the future unless more people step up. You don't have to understand every word of what's being said in an episode to recap it. Believe me, I know! I don't come close to understanding every word. I recently came across comments I made some time ago in response to a very interesting and important blog post saved on CarayCaray entitled Care and Feeding of Recappers. Lots of people had responded to the post, including me. I expressed my appreciation and admiration for the Caray bloggers but added regretfully that my Spanish was simply much too weak for me to consider recapping.

Well, some time later, I don't recall exactly when, the person who was going to recap an episode of a novela I was watching said she couldn't do it. I thought to myself, "What the heck: something is better than nothing." The next thing I knew, I had written and posted a recap. To my surprise and delight, people gave lots of appreciative feedback, and I was hooked. I realized that even with my mediocre Spanish, I could put together a recap, and that doing so was a way of giving back for all the years I had depended on and enjoyed the recaps of others.

I hope some of you will think about giving it a try. And I would urge everyone to read Care and Feeding of Recappers. It has been featured on the CarayCaray site for good reason.

I might add that if you have questions or comments that you'd prefer to express privately, I can be reached at cq9 AT yahoo DOT com. That's an address I don't care about. I'll write back privately. Please don't post an email address you care about here or in any other public forum.

General

A standing ovation from me for Juanita's remarks about recaps! I have been, off and on, on this blog since the very first. Melinama, Chapel Hill Fiddler, or whatever cyber name she's using, was putting up English recaps of Amor Real on a blog (not this one). Being totally hooked on that novela, I googled Amor Real and found her blog. Comments on the recaps overwhelmed her blog, and she created Caray, Caray - for which we're all eternally grateful.

What I'd like to say is that, without recaps, the blog sort of withers, like a plant without water. It doesn't have to be long, complete, nor perfect. A recap just jogs the memory of other readers and stimulates the interesting comments we all enjoy.

The Univision area of the blog has more visitors. And they seem to mostly manage to get a recapper every night of the week.

Here at Telemundo Central we don't have quite the number of commenters. And we would love to have more of you give recapping a try.

General

I have not yet gone to the Caray link listed above...but what is the earliest you can post a recap after reviewing an episode?

Nett

General

I meant to say...after an eip has aired.

Nett

Lado

Juanita, I think Irene was killed before she got back home and all the dvd info was on her laptop, we don't see what Pastrana did other than plug in a flashdrive, so maybe that video Joel saw was on her laptop, anyway he must have set it up so he would see it.

Pastrana working for the Gov, probably can travel easily, he may even have diplomatic immunity.

Lado and General

Nett, I think it would be OK to post a recap as soon as the episode has aired on the East Coast (EST/EDT). Some people on the West Coast are able to see the episode when it's being aired on the East Coast (e.g., they can see Lado at 6 pm PST/PDT). However, I think most folks on the West Coast see it at 9 pm PST/PDT, three hours after it has aired on the East Coast. West Coast folks who have to wait until 9 pm PST/PDT will just have to avoid reading recaps posted before they have seen the episode, unless they want to read the recap first.

Lado

Many thanks, novelera, for your insightful comments. I hope you're right about SS having made a big mistake by being so extreme in his account of Sofia's behavior. We do know that, however troubled Joel may have been by SS's account, he still doesn't believe that Sofia killed his sister. He vows to Patrick that when they find the guy who killed his sister, he'll deal with him.

Yes, health care is so much simpler in Latin America, at least in the telenovelas. Fainting and/or nausea ALWAYS means that a woman of childbearing age is pregnant. OTOH, the women themselves seem not to know this foolproof diagnosis. How strange!

I haven't seen Amor Real, but I love what you say about their showing time passing via the character's growing belly. I doubt that the same technique will be used in Lado, at least not for the major time jump.

Good point about Pastrana's being able to enter the US so quickly and easily. I'm still in the dark about what he's doing with Irene's computer.

Lado

Very good point, deb, about Pastrana's possibly having diplomatic immunity or at least easy passage between Mexico and the US thanks to his working for the Governor.

deb, are you saying that there was one laptop at Irene's office and a different one at her apartment? That may be the case, but I still don't know what Pastrana was doing with the computer in her apartment. He certainly didn't know ahead of time about the video she made addressed to her child-to-be, and even if he had, what possible use could it be to him? My head is spinning.

Lado

I will do a recap tonight. The nights I never want to recap are Wednesdays and Thursdays. I attend an advanced Spanish class I've been enjoying for more than 20 years on Wednesday nights. One of the guys at work teases me about this. "You mean you haven't learned it yet?" What we do is converse for the first hour and in the second hour we take turns reading aloud from and then discussing a Spanish novel or book of short stories. We've read works of most of the great ones: Garcia Márquez, Vargas Llosa, Carlos Fuentes, Isabel Allende, Ana María Matute, etc.

And I am in two English language book groups that meet, respectively, the second and last Thursday in the evening.

So I may get to watch the episode, but certainly have no time to recap those days.

Lado

That's great, novelera! I could probably do Tuesdays OR Thursdays. It would be terrific if we could actually get a real schedule going.

Lado

Juanita, they didn't show us what Pastrana actually did, just saying that Irene had been in Mexico for a while and was using her laptop which Pastrana took after he killed her, that video Joel watched may have been on there and was uploaded to her home computer by Pastrana, either way it appears he set it up so Joel would see it.

Lado

Ah, thanks very much, deb. Now I get it.

I guess the writers were being literal with the title "al otro lado de muro"...thanks to Carmen in Tijuana. Its not much but in this case its better than nothing.

Is Joel being smart...recognizing what's really going on, or is he actually believing it?

I may be able to commit to a recap every other week.

LADO – Viernes – Parte 1

We again see Margarita in the Governor’s Mansion speaking with Sofía in LA. And Sofía saying to herself: ¡Joel!

Ernesto is still drinking and brooding. Paula starts to give him a back rub and mentions Sofía. He says that esa perra (that b*tch) doesn’t interest him any more and puts some moves on Paula. Paula is angry, figuring out he’s using her to get over how badly he wants sofía.

Jennifer keeps trying to seduce Max. She’s giving him the same pathetic backrub as Paula.

Steve is yelling for the nurse. He says his head is about to explode.

Eliza tells María and Andrés not to be suspicious of Sofía. [I notice once again how much the actor playing Andrés reminds me of Rafael Amaya – the lead actor of El Señor de los Cielos.] Eliza tells a lie! She tells them that Sofía sold an extremely expensive watch left to her by her dead husband to start their business together.

Eliza gets a call from the hospital. Steve has to have surgery and is very depressed. Eliza says she’ll come see him in the morning.

We meet Margot, Steve’s wife, and better understand why she’s been in Madrid. She’s Spanish, and I can tell by her accent. She left their son with her mother. Max tells her they got a call about a man in the hospital whose description resembles Steve.

Beside Irene’s grave Patrick tells Joel that they got into Irene’s computer. He says that she suspected Sofía and found proof that Sofía was involved with Juan Estevez. [So that’s what Pastrana was doing with the thumb drive, planting incriminating evidence.]

Sofía, the most cheerful we’ve seen her, has gone with Andrés to buy a pickup truck for $4K. She tells him she and Eliza will use it for the business. If Eliza’s mother could start a business on a bicycle, think what they can do with this truck. She tells Andrés that she found out today that a friend she thought had died was OK.

Margot enters the hospital while Max parks the car. Eliza is with Steve. During this whole hospital scene they torture us a lot, but Max and Eliza are like ships passing in the night. They never meet.

Back at Irene’s grave Joel asks Patrick what he means by “ties” between Sofía and Juan Estevez. Patrick says that JE invested money in the beauty contest, but that his name was kept a secret until Irene discovered it. The definite proof came to Irene the day she died. [I still don’t see how JE investing in the beauty pageant makes Sofía guilty of involvement in the child trafficking.]

Anyway, this works for Joel. He says that all the puzzle pieces fell into place for him. Irene must have called Sofía to confront her, and Sofía came to the hotel to kill her in cold blood.

LADO – Viernes – Parte 2

Joel, el sabueso (the bloodhound on the scent) asks Patrick what’s up with tracing Senator Slimy’s watch.

At Casa Andrés y María Eliza tells Sofía that she envied Margot for finding her husband. She says she’s decided that she’ll never find Max. Sofía: ”No de tes por vencida.” (Don’t give up hope.)

At the hospital Max tells Margot that Steve was going to go to Spain to try to reconcile with her. Margot sadly tells him that their love is over.

We see the whole pack of kids come from school: Santiago, Tomás, Alondra, and Karina. All the kids hug both Eliza and Sofía. This looks like foreshadowing of a close bond between them all in the future.

The forger of passports rags on the pawnbroker about not being paid by Sofía. The pawnbroker just laughs at him.

Eliza brings the kids to see Carmen through the border fence. She’s not thrilled to find out that Eliza is pregnant. Apparently Eliza has already told Tomás and Karina and they are fine with it. Sofía apologizes for what happened at the bakery, and Carmen appears to forgive her.

Jennifer tells Margot about what is going on with Charlie. Margot talks about a friend in Madrid who lost a child, but who had the consolation of another child. [We see the light bulb over Jennifer’s head light up.]

The passport guy has somehow contacted Joel about a reward. Joel gives him half. Passport Guy tells Joel about the expensive watch pawned for money to get false passports, but that she changed her mind at the last minute.

Max reads a bedtime story to Charlie then goes into, I guess, their bedroom. So, Max, if you really only want to have a marriage for Charlie’s sake, why are you in the same old bedroom? Anyway, Jennifer puts the moves on him and he doesn’t resist this time.

Passport Guy gets nervous when Joel pushes him about how to find Sofía. He gives Joel back the money, says he doesn’t know how to find her, and tells Joel where to find the pawnbroker.

Patrick wonders why Sofía wanted to buy a passport when Joel gave her some. Joel says she’s no fool; she’d know they’d be tracking them. Joel also thinks that Sofía may still be in LA. When he and Patrick drive off, we see that Pastrana is following them.

Lado

Thanks VERY much, novelera, for this complete and delightful recap. I especially enjoyed your saying that Paula and Jennifer gave "the same pathetic backrub." Thanks, too, for including some Spanish. I especially appreciated el sabueso, which is not a term I knew. I might add one more that I learned last night. Paula says to Ernesto early on, when she rejects his advances, Tus tríos imaginarios me dan mucha hueva. Thanks to WordReference.com, I found she was saying "Your imaginary trios [i.e., you, me, and Sofia] bore me."

So Margot claims the love between her and Steve is done, finished, kaput. I wonder whether that leaves an opening eventually for Eliza and Steve. Their brief hand-touching may indeed have been a bit of foreshadowing. Or not. :-)

How did the hospital know how to reach Eliza? Did she give them her phone #? I hadn't remembered her doing so. And Steve told them not to contact her.

So did we see Joel flash a badge at the Passport Guy, causing him to panic and give back the money?

Well, now we know what Pastrana was doing with the flash drive and Irene's computer. I'm impressed with how fast the bad guys can concoct digital evidence. (It doesn't help that when I see Pastrana, I keep remembering the actor's playing Dimas in Sangre. Dimas who could barely turn the computer on.)

Lado

Spanish Student, I think we saw Joel at first not believe the case against Sofia, but finally I think he did buy it. As Patrick listed more and more "evidence," I think Joel came to feel there were just too many things that fit together, all pointing to Sofia's not being the wonderful, brave, principled woman he thought she was. [I still don't think Patrick is working with the bad guys, but who knows?]

It would be terrific if you're able to do a recap every other week! Perhaps we can put together a schedule of sorts. Or, if not, try to figure out when no one else is likely to do one. Novelera has said she can't do Wednesdays or Thursdays. I could probably do Tuesdays or Thursdays. Perhaps we'll hear from others about their preferences as well.

Picture me hanging my head in embarrassment. It's NOT:

”No de tes por vencida.”

It's No te das por vencida

I've always liked this expression using a reflexive verb: darse por vencido(a)

There was a big hit song by Luis Fonsi some years ago: No me doy por vencido.

In this song he's going to persist until the woman falls for him. Kind of a stalker song, maybe, but it works in Spanish!

Lado

Thanks, Novelera. I also noticed our 2 female antagonists using the same tactics to seduce men daydreaming about other women.

Juanita, here's why I thought Joel was intentionally faking belief/agreement. The Senator said Sofia wore a negligee and aggressively seduced him for money. (Where did this negligee come from... his wife's items in his bedroom?) Sofia supposedly manipulated his chauffeur to leave so that there wouldn't be any witnesses. He tried too hard to turn Sofia, the victim, into the mastermind seductress (i.e. Paula). The only truth he told was that he and Ernesto had been friends a long time and he'd called Ernesto to come and get her. This is borderline incriminating and Joel emphasized this.

Patrick did nothing but encourage specific statements from the Senator and discourage Joel's doubts as emotional. This continued with Patrick in the car, and again in Irene's house. I thought Joel even doubted the ID guy, especially considering what he'd now witnessed with Marquez and the senator. As Juan's chauffeur, Joel was privy to a lot of info and Sofia never came up until she started talking to Irene, and Sofia almost met the same fate...twice. If she's behind it all why were they trying to kill her?

Basically I thought Joel knew that the Senator and Patrick were in cahoots and that it was better for him to just play along. We'll know for sure after the next couple of episodes.

Novelera, It was clear after the first week that Jennifer's insistence on holding on to Max could be captured in Jennifer Holliday's "And I Am Telling You I'm Not Going" from the broadway play Dreamgirls. another wonderful recap novelera! you make this look all too easy.

say, what happened to Sofia's SUV, must have sold/ditched it.

hmm, so how did mr. passport know that was the watch, when did he ever see the serial number, yep, Sofia left him standing there with no money, now it sounds like he has to answer to some one else, the badge kind of appeared in Joel's hand while he was talking to him, ha!, he got so nervous he gave Joel back all his money.

hmm, so Juan Estévez is accused of running the kidnap ring, and he was feeding Sofia money, and they used her ranch, did Joel ask Patrick to check the pageant scene for any missing girls?

yep when all the kids came rushing in after school Eliza took Tomas and Karina aside to tell them.

Carmen sure is an old blister, with a heart of gold, love her.

when Paula pried herself out of the drunken Ernesto's clutches, did she ask if he wanted her to order up some girls from the usual brothel, or she could go there and pick one out herself for him.

hmm, so is some of Jennifer's stress due to the fact she used Charly to capture Max in the first place and his dying would break that hold.

yep, Joel has finally bought in, love Paula's strategy, to take all of the passion he has for Sofia and turn it into hate, oh wait, Joel wants to go see Juan Estévez, but of course they will know he is going there with his nice new watch.

ah yes Spanish Student, Joel was Juan's driver, I forgot that.

Lado

Spanish Student: Excellent comparison with Jennifer in the novela and the Dreamgirls song. I actually saw that as a musical in a San Francisco theater before they made it into a movie. It's a powerful song!

Deb, thanks for mentioning that Joel is planning to visit Juan Estevez in jail. Juan is plenty angry with Ernesto, but he was also angry with Sofía. So he might throw her under the bus, or he might trash Ernesto. Another likely scenario, as deb pointed out, the watch will show him going for the jailhouse visit and arrange for Juan to slip and have a fatal fall in the shower.

They are using a classic TN plot; the baddies win over and over until, in many cases, the very last week when they begin to get caught.

Lado

Did Steve's wife say anything about Eliza or question who Eliza was when she found her in Steve's room holding his hand. I just knew this would come up with her heart to heart with Jenny and then cause a problem for Eliza.

I too am perplexed how the pawn broker or the passport faker knew enough of anything about the watch for either of them to use the info against Sofie. Also, we know Sofie didn't pay for the passports but does that mean he let her run off with the passports....he doesn't strike me as the type that wouldn't have snatched them back from her.

This whole dual pregnancy thing with Eliza and Jenny...assume Jenny is successful ....spells trouble. Will be interesting to see how it evolves.

Spanish Student....there's nothing "poor" or to "feel sorry" about when it comes to Max. He's enjoying his misery with Jenny...bedding her every time she throws it at him. Yeah...stay at the house and support Charlie by ...but at some part during the day he should be across town or where ever Eliza is...showing her and their 2 kids some support. This ridiculous plot line that he can't support Max while taking care of his first family has to end. And when Eliza finds out the truth....I hope she's the one who puts an end to it by walking away.

General....
I can give a stab at recapping Lado one day a week but not for another week or so. I have a busy schedule and will not be able to watch live next week. I warn you...I rely on subtitles as I'm learning spanish and miss most nuance in the dialogue.

Nett

Lado

Nett, I'm delighted to hear that you may give recapping a try. No problem about not being able to start for a week or so. And certainly no problem about relying on subtitles. If I didn't have subtitles, I'd be done for.

I think the passport guy did take the passports back, even though we don't see him do so. I say that because Sofia said something to her daughter about not having passports and thus not traveling. At least I think that's what she said. :-)

I'm not sure Margot saw Steve's and Eliza's hands meeting. She was focused solely on Steve, and at first Eliza's back was to her, probably blocking her view of the hands.

Lado

Nett, I see my humor wasn't conveyed in my writing, But to be clear, Max is my least favorite character. He has pretty much handed his manhood over to Jennifer...so there's nothing left for Eliza. And I really don't want to see him once he's exposed AND learns of the pregnancy(ies).

Spanish Student

Lado Spanish Student, Nett and Steve, I also think Max is too weak for strong and compassionate Eliza. There is just no excuse for how he has abandoned her and his other 2 children. I am on the fence about Patrick but leaning toward him being corrupt. I understand why Sofia doesn't trust him. I will be disappointed in Joel if he believes the nonsense about Sofia. Supposedly, he looked into her eyes and saw her innocent essence. Vamos a ver.
Bella

"LADO":

Deb: Signs pointing to Sofia being sent to prison.

Spanish Student: Patrick's still involved in the sinister conspiracy.

Juanita: Joel is STUPID. I cannot wait for him to find out the truth that he got played for a sucker 10 years later....

"LADO":

Nett: Jennifer is PREGGERS. I'm expecting her to keep Max from here until the Gran Final.

Enemigo:

It finally looks as if the good guys are getting somewhere. Alejandro knows there's a leak in the department. He suspected Marimar, the psychologist, and was wrong. She was upset, so she has quit to take a new job. Now Alejandro suspects the prosecutor (and he's right this time). Completely w/o authorization, he wants to bug the guy's office. He has Olivia remotely mess up the prosecutor's computer, then sends Silvia to “fix” it (install a secret microphone).

Meanwhile the Oscuros have killed every innocent person in the bar where the Mil Cumbres used to go. The boss isn't too happy that Turco did this, Turco's supposed to concentrate on killing Roxana Rodiles. No problem, boss, says Turco, it's happening right now, but can't I continue to have fun with this girl (which he was just about to take to bed)? No, says the boss, I'll have that fun (as he leads the girl to HIS bed). Small world department, Turco just happens to be the boyfriend of Ochún, the Cubana who has befriended Roxana. But Turco tells her you have to kill Roxana, we'll get lots of money, you can even bring your Mom to the US. Roxana reluctantly says okay, sneaks a spoon from the dining hall, surreptitiously sharpens it in the woodshop, and prepares to stab Roxana while they're watching the other inmates play basketball. But Clarisa sees her, motions “No”, Ochún drops the knife. Later Roxana now has it, tells Clarisa she has to defend herself, questions Ochún, why?

Also, Madre is currently protecting Roxana, since this is his form of romance (along with a poem he wrote her). Tilapia's new job is selling drugs to the inmates, this isn't going too well, because he has a conscience. He also wants to protect Roxana. But she seems to be getting tougher and tougher on her own.

We also see a meeting between Fernando and Luis's father (whose name I forgot).
Things are getting exciting!

Enemigo

thanks so much for posting Hombre, glad someone else is watching.

Oscuros is it, the english captions are calling them the Dark Knights.

I think that bar is where the dark knights were celebrating after knocking off one of the mil cumbres warehouses when the bar tender ratted them out and Luis came and drug them off to kill, Turco started by wanting to know the guys name, but killed them all anyway.

say wasn't that quite the shootout when the dark knights kidnapped Roxana's lawyer, only to be met by Luis who has an informer, only to be met by Alex who picked up some chatter over the airways.

yes Alex has a mole, but I thought his interest in Marimar started when he found out she too had a sister that was killed, and also that she had investigated him, a little tidbit is when Olivia met with Mirimar ((and Marimar discovered Alex had her investigated) her term for Alex's condition was thanatic obsession.

Alex knows the deputy DA is dirty but has no proof.

there were at least 2 guys that killed Roxana's parents I think, Alex is pretty keen on it being Sanson from his arm tattoo, but Roxana gets images when she is around Madre, this time because of the band on his wrist.

Madre has also made Roxana untouchable, as did the professor with Zoriada on the woman's side, and Roxana's cool moves with the Capitan (El Bauser ??) will make him think twice about bothering her, so Zoraida will have to be creative in finding ways to get to her.

Madre has been described as not wanting for anything, even getting out of prison, could he be the professor? He seems to enjoy the games he plays with people's lives.

I'm not very good with names (especially since there are similar characters in Lado) so I usually go here,
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt7632608/fullcredits?ref_=tt_cl_sm#cast

I think the money guy is Federico Montalvo, and Luis' dad must be Nemesio Rendón.

Luis is a kill-everyone kind of narco and it looks like his dad is squeezing him out of the action because of it, and it's interesting that his dad is keeping Sanson around because he senses a big storm coming.

the hacker the deputy DA hired must be that guy Olivia and Silvia are after.

What episode number are we on? #12??
It's hard following the recaps when the episode numbers are not in the headers like the Televisa pages. I'm trying to play catch up. So following the weekly recaps in order is difficult. Especially if they start doubling up the 1-hour episode into 2-hour episodes .

Marjorie de Sousa is doing a bangup job here, not like she did in AV -- oh awful Kendra.

Enemigo:

Thanks, Deb, for the clarifications. I watch in Spanish with no subtitles, so I often miss things. Yes, in Spanish it's Los Oscuros (the Dark Ones, but in English they have it as the Dark Knights). I thought the head of security was Bowser, but I guess it's El Bauser. By the way, I think the English translation of Sansone is Samson, but that guy certainly doesn't have any hair! (but he's big and strong).
I agree that both Sansone and Madre may have been at the killing of Alex and Roxane's parents. But I don't think that Madre is the Professor, because aren't messages coming to various characters from outside the prison that are from the Professor? You could be right, though.
Roxana always has to play everything carefully. Madre offered to set her up with his attorney, and this could really help her - but she has that vision of the armband, plus is wary of Madre in general, and so far, just says she'll think about it.

LADO

I GET HAPPY EVRYTIME ...I SEE MS. CARMEN.. I like Eliza's mom, she is the voice of reason in this madness!!

I was happy to see her reconcile with Sofia, because the business is happening,,!!

WTF!!!...now how the heck Sofia, does she open a job/busisness!!!!!!!!kinda out in the open/ public exposure ??!!

Lado

Victoria, Friday's episode was #13. I originally mislabeled my Thursday recap as #11, but I corrected it in a followup message to say it was #12.

I'm glad you mentioned the usefulness of labeling the episodes when we do recaps. I'll try to remember to do so, and I hope other recappers will as well.

That's great Juanita!

Didn't I hear that she was going to rent an apartment next door to a French Bakery? So she will probably end up there, No?

BUT HE LIKES THE WAY SHE ADDRESS HIM LIKE A GENTLEMAN??????? CABALLERO?? WTF!!!

Lado

Yes, Victoria, the place Eliza is planning to rent is, according to Andres, next door to a French Bakery. So it's a good bet that she'll either wind up working there or somehow taking over the business.

I'm sorry to ask, but did any one understand exactly what disease Max's son, Charlie, has. I didn't catch what the doctor said.

If Sofia has all that money to invest with Eliza, then why is the passport dude saying to the pawnbroker that Sofia didn't pay him??????

Lado

Victoria, in her recap a week or so ago, deb identified and explained Charlie's illness. Here's what she said:

Charlie has Myelofibrosis,

"Myelofibrosis is a serious bone marrow disorder that disrupts your body's normal production of blood cells. The result is extensive scarring in your bone marrow, leading to severe anemia, weakness, fatigue and often an enlarged spleen."

-Mayo Clinic

the doctor said this is rare in kids, they usually don't live to see their teens.
-------

As for your question about Sofia and the money, the pawnbroker had paid Sofia $15K for the watch she stole from Senator Cummings (whom we've been referring to as Senator Slimey). The passport dude told her it would cost $15K for the passports. At the last minute, she decided not to buy them, so she didn't pay him (and presumably didn't take the passports he made).

-------
One more thing. Since the Telemundo pages can often cover discussions of more than one telenovela, people posting comments are asked to put the name of the novela they're talking about at the top of their posting (as I've done at the top of this posting). Putting Lado at the top helps people looking for discussions of that telenovela to find them more easily. It also helps people searching in the future.

Juanita, I will make sure to put the title at the top. So sorry I missed that.
Well I must say that the writers picked an unusual medical condition for Charlie.

Thank so so much for answering my questions. I greatly appreciate it.

Now to decide whether or not to watch Enemigo Íntimo. I'm not sure because it seems like another Telemundo narco novela. The type I don't like.

"ENEMIGO":

Juanita: Does Alejandro know about the corrupt United States Senator from FL ?

Juanita,
Again thank you for clarifying my questions.

Caraymates
Is this novela worth watching? I don't know whether or not to watch the previous episodes on Telemundo's site to catch up. I hate to waste my time if it seems boring, unrealistic, or needs a "beenie cap".
Thanks you guys in advance for any comment

Enemigo

hi Victoria, this is a narco type story, except the good guys are the protagonists, and the narcos are the bad guys, only a couple of us watching this for now, and no one is recapping, but you might give the first show a try to see if you like it.

"ENEMIGO":

Deb: The big question is will Alejandro be successful in exposing the corrupt Prosecutor ?

It seems that the Drug-Lords have spies EVERYWHERE: law enforcement agencies, TV News Media, Politics, etc.,

"LADO":

HALIMANCADY: Patrick is DIRTY & I know it based on his insistence that Sofia is the one, who whacked Irene. STUPID Joel fell for the trick hook, line & sinker.

Paula (AKA the Latina Doug Stamper) is going to up the ante ever further as Ernesto plots his next move: Los Pinos (Residence of the President).

Thanks Deb. If it is narco, i'll skip.
The only narco novela I've been interested enough to watch.

Lado

Do you guys briefly recap the episodes at the end of the week.

Marjorie de Sousa is doing a great job. I just wish the male lead, Joel, was much better looking than he is.

Lado

Victoria, we've been trying to recap after each episode. For example, this week novelera recapped Monday's episode and I did Tuesday's. However, there have been only three of us, so sometimes episodes go by with no recap. Recently, two more people have expressed some interest in recapping, but they haven't started yet. And we're still looking for more people. Are you interested in giving it a try?

If there are questions about this that you or anyone else would prefer to ask me privately, you can email me at cq9 AT yahoo.com . I'll email you back privately. Please do NOT post an email address you care about on this or any other public forum.
