Por Amar Sin Ley, 3/26/18 Chapter 15 Lunes: Sexo, Pudor, y Gritos

Chapter 15: Sexo, Pudor, y Gritos
Previously on D.F. Law:
  • Milena left the poison pill envelope with the maid and walked away. Note that she didn't tell the maid to give it to Isabel personally, sure in the knowledge that Isabel would freak out.

  • The maid, thinking that this was something innocuous, left the envelope on a table in the garden. Luis and Federico speculated on what it was. Video game or a movie? They opened it and Federico speculated that it was a movie. They left the garden.
  • Leticia and Elena bitched about what could be going on between Ricardo and Alejandra. Elena further bitched about How-Dare-He-Be-Happy-With-Her-While-I-Am-Suffering-A-Blow-To- My-Ego. She decided to address this but Leticia grabbed her by the hand and told her that it would not do to let him see that she was jealous. She was not to burden him with her jealousy and tears.
  • Gustavo talked about what a wonderful and happy child Luis is. Olivia talked about wanting to have a large family. Alejandra said she didn't want that many but would like to have a family because she loved children. Gustavo complimented their personalities and said that their children would be lucky to have them as mothers. Ricardo's facial expression expressed his agreement... and his hopes, we're sure.
  • The two boys went upstairs to Luis' room where he displayed his collection of video games.
  • Elena went on about How-Dare-He-Show-Up-With-Another-Woman-In-Front-Of-My-
Children and How-Dare-He-Not-Respect-Me. [How therefore dare she not respect him by cheating on him?] Leticia agreed. She asked what Elena was going to do. Elena said she wasn't going to do anything but remind him that she was there.
  • Ricardo talked about his boyhood sports activities, like playing American football and coming home all muddy. He asked Alejandra what she had been like and she replied she was the same. Her parents would come looking for her and find her messy but happy. That was when Elena decided to crash the conversation. Typical hypocritical greeting kiss and asking the two single ladies whether they had children and when they said no she asked why they were there. Alejandra answered that Gustavo had invited them.
“For him?” Elena asked, seeming to indicate Ricardo.
Alejandra replied “Not just for him; he invited all the lawyers at the firm.” [Like Elena wouldn't have known this after being married to Ricardo all that time?] Elena then looked around and asked whether they saw Federico. Ricardo had seen him with Luis but then noticed that he wasn't in sight. He looked up to see that Luis had returned. The boy told Ricardo that Federico was up in his room looking at a movie. Elena kissed Luis and asked if he liked his present. He said yes and bumped fists with Ricardo before running off. That gave Elena the opening she wanted for You-Have-to-Help-Me-Because-My-Son-Has-No-Social-Skills, claiming that Federico was always watching TV and playing with video games. [I'm sure she was also hoping that he was looking at her double necklace right within the plunging neckline.] He said he would do so later and she insisted that it be Now. Isabel appeared with cake in hand as Ricardo went off to find Federico.
  • Who was in Luis' room putting the disc in the DVD player. The player was just beginning its spin when Isabel appeared at the door to get Federico, saying his mother was looking for him. He protested that he didn't want to play or deal with his mother, but allowed Isabel to lead him out of the room. Reluctantly he agreed to go back to the party and went downstairs, telling Isabel that the DVD player was still running.
She walked back into her son's room just in time to see her husband's porno film begin. She immediately began crying.
  • Ricardo arrived downstairs in the wine bar that faced the garden [Don't you all love this house?] and met Federico, telling him he should go outside to play with the other kids. Federico agreed and exchanged a hug with Ricardo. It was obvious that he loved Ricardo and knew that he wanted good for him. He then went outside, running toward the other kids. Elena approached him in Scolding Mode, stopping him from joining the other kids.
“My dad said to come our here and play,” he said.
“I brought you here so we could get along, right? I brought you here to play with your friends, not for you to be alone watching television and it's Luis' birthday.”
“My father just told me that and to come outside and play,” he said.
“Don't raise your voice at me, child” she said, seeing that the other boys were all gathered in a group behind him. “And wipe that look off your face. If you don't want to play here get your things and we're leaving now.”
“Yes, I want to stay,” he said. “Stop nagging me in front of my friends.”
“I'm not nagging you. Go on and play.” Federico went off with the other children while Elena could only huff and puff because she couldn't blow this situation apart as usual.
  • Isabel came down to the bar crying. Ricardo asked what was wrong. She was almost incoherent when trying to say she couldn't believe this and finally took his hand to lead him to the source of her anguish.
  • Juan was trying to get some work done on his laptop. Susanna was hoping to get him to eat but he needed to get something done. He suddenly had trouble closing windows or calling up a file and bagan panicking. Susanna picked up the phone to call her friend Gloria whose daughter (Fernanda) knew all about these things.
  • Ricardo saw more of his colleague than he ever asked for and was incredulous. Isabel wondered whether Gustavo had cheated on her through all ten years of their marriage. Ricardo told her she needed to talk to him. She refused at first. He told her he would handle this. She asked if he would take Luis for the night so he would not hear the guaranteed argument. He agreed. She thanked him and sat down on her son's bed as Ricardo left the room.
  • Fernanda arrived at the Lopez house; she's kind of cute but not particularly glamourous. She asked him to leave her to work alone and he went to his room. Susanna sat down next to her for a moment and they exchanged a look. Susanna asked if she'd like a glass of water or something and she politely declined. [Did anyone else spot this as a Maternal Matchmaking Attempt?]
  • Ricardo told Gustavo he had to talk to him for a minute. Gustavo asked the ladies to watch the kids as he walked away with Ricardo. Both Alejandra and Olivia sensed that something was not quite right. As the two men went inside we were treated to the non-treat of Benjamín filling a plate with cupcakes and other non-nutritional things while flirting with Leticia and telling her how boring he found this whole thing. She told him she only came to observe him with his wife. She also wanted to meet his wife to get to know her but would only be around for a little while. She then mentioned that she understood Elena because nobody likes to see the man she loves with another woman. He said something about her being intelligent enough to be able to handle this situation. She looked at him as if to say Don't be too sure about that as she took a bite out of a marshmallow kabab.
Karina approached and he went over to her with the plate saying “Sweets for my love but not too many; you have permission.” [If Leticia has half the brains she thinks she has she would give him his pink slip first thing next morning.]
  • Karina said she sensed something odd was going on. Isabel was gone and Gustavo just left with Ricardo; he was also looking nervous. Leticia looked around and noticed also that the three were gone. She shrugged and said she knew nothing. Benjamín then suggested that they leave. They began calling their son. His name is also Benjamín. [In view of the paternal ego, that is no surprise.] Benjamín exchanged a look with Leticia.
  • Back at the Lopez house Fernanda got the computer up and running again. She had installed a new operating system and the latest versions of his programs. He asked what he owed her and she told him he didn't owe her anything; she liked helping people. She took her leave and Juan sat down to get his work done. He seems completely clueless that she was flirting with him during that. [Por supuesto, the bedroom shenanigans at Vega & Associados will be quite an education for him when he gets there.]

  • Gustavo looked at the TV screen in abject horror. He asked Ricardo to turn it off, then asked how it got there and whether the children saw it. Ricardo showed him the envelope and Gustavo admitted that the woman in the video had been his mistress but he had ended the relationship. [We still can't tell whether he knew the video existed.] He ended it so that Isabel wouldn't find out. He couldn't believe that Milena could do anything like this. He was one frightened man. [Good.]
  • Olivia and Alejandra were in the bar wondering what had gone wrong. Luis asked them where his mother was because she was to help him give out the candy to the guests. He asked Olivia to help him with something else and they went back outside. Elena came in looking for Ricardo and Alejandra told her that he had gone inside with Gustavo; it seemed that something was up with Isabel. Elena began needling her about her fiancé Carlos being in prison. Alejandra kept her cool, saying that this was all out of her hands while Elena went on about this being in the news and how she herself wouldn't be able to leave the house. Alejandra said she was not getting bent out of shape over him; that she couldn't.
“Of course, you found someone else to focus your attention on,” Elena said.
“Yes, I have. My work. That's my priority now.” The look she gave Elena back said something like Bitch, I've got your number.
“Yes, but work isn't everything,” Elena said. “Everyone has a life outside of it. For Ricardo the priority is my children.”
“Yes, he told me. I see that this is very difficult for them. He should see them more often. Will you excuse me?”
As Alejandra walked off with her cell phone Elena looked as though she was trying to gauge her success in this encounter.
  • Gustavo was desperate to talk to Isabel. Ricardo told him to do this carefully because Isabel was very hurt. Gustavo asked Ricardo to take over at the party and not allow Luis to find out about this. He needed to talk to Isabel because the most important thing to him is his family. Ricardo told him that Isabel asked him to take Luis overnight with Federico and Gustavo agreed to this, saying he'd come to pick up his son the next day.
  • As Juan marveled at how well his laptop was working Susanna worked on him about Fernanda. She went so far as to suggest he ask her out. He realized what she was up to and told her that right now he can't have distractions. She retreated, but glanced back at him.
  • Ricardo came back down to the gardenside bar. When Alejandra asked what happened he said it was something between Isabel and Gustavo.
“What kind of problem?” asked Leticia.
“One between themselves,” he answered. He then had to stop Elena from going upstairs, saying that they had to resolve this themselves. The party was to go on as normal.
“Poor little Luis,” said Elena, gratuitously. “He must be very uncomfortable because it's his birthday and nobody's there. Very strange.”
“Really? As far as I can see they're playing, happy, and everything is going well with them,” said Ricardo.
“Well, then I guess it's better that we leave,” Elena said.
“Both Isabel and Gustavo asked me to take Luis so he can hang with Federico at my place,” Ricardo said.

Elena deflated like a balloon leaking helium. [Notice the tuba notes in the music?] She then said “Therefore I will leave you alone so that you can do what you have to do,” as she looked at Alejandra while walking back toward the garden.
“Elena,” said Ricardo with a warning tone.
“Ey? I don't know what you're talking about. You're free to do what you please. I'll get the children.”
Ricardo and Alejandra exchanged looks. Leticia looked smug.

  • Isabel was taking Gustavo's clothes off the racks and out of drawers and began packing a suitcase. Gustavo tried apologizing to her but she was in no mood. She told him he had no shame and how can one talk calmly about anything like this. He started saying that this was a mistake. She went on about how much time did she waste on him. This house, their son, and she were not enough for him.
He claimed he loved her, their family, their son, etc., and she told him he should have thought of that before bumping uglies with his slut. He wanted to explain but she didn't want to hear another word. She took down some more of his clothes and told him to get out. [Isabel should take a hot bath, have some wine, and watch “Waiting to Exhale.”]
  • Luis, Alejandra, and Olivia distributed the candy bags to the children who all thanked them. The ladies then said they had to go. Ricardo thanked them for their help and Alejandra for helping him with Elena. She said she hoped that everything works out for Gustavo and Isabel and that she enjoyed herself. After the usual “See you at the office” stuff Ricardo kissed both ladies and Elena came back in time to see him kiss Alejandra on the cheek. Alejandra made a point of telling Elena it was a pleasure meeting her.
“Ah, yes, and I hope everything goes well for you and your love,” Elena told her. Alejandra kissed her on the cheek (sort of) and took her leave. Ricardo looked at Elena with the same thought as Alejandra had earlier.
  • Isabel had almost collapsed on the floor of Gustavo's walk-in closet. She got up as he tried to tell her that he had been with Milena for only a year and it was the dumbest thing he had ever done in his life.
She called him a liar and told him that all this was too late. He said he loved her and broke up with Milena because of that. Isabel wasn't buying this. She refused to believe that he could love her and show this much disrespect. He went on about loving her, this was a mistake, and he begged her forgiveness.
  • Ricardo took Federico aside and found out that he hadn't seen anything on the disc. Federico said he thought it might have been a birthday surprise for Luis. Ricardo then gave him the standard parental lecture about opening stuff that had someone else's name on it. Federico agreed and said his dad was right.
  • Isabel told Gustavo that this was it. She had no more love or respect for him. Their marriage was over and he was to go. She had stopped crying and would have no more lies. After the nth “Get out” he did.
She collapsed on Luis' bed and took a deep breath.
  • Ricardo got on Elena's case about how she behaved toward Alejandra. She claimed she just wanted to find out if the gossip was true about her, that she was interested in him. Ricardo told Elena point blank that this was not her business and that they (as in their marriage) were so over. He was done with her gossip, her blackmail, and their fighting. Elena backed up, finally saying that if it makes him happy he should make a life with Alejandra.
“When you have children with her you will finally forget about mine.”
“What is wrong with you?” he asked.
“I know you, Ricardo. I had ten years with you. Don't look at me like I'm an idiot, please. This woman pleases you. You can't judge me for being unfaithful when you took her in to work with you.” [???]
“Enough! I will not continue to argue with you. The only ones who continue to hurt are the children.”
“Yes, yes, yes. It's all your fault.”
Disgusted, he walked away from her.
  • Alejandra drove Olivia back to her apartment. Olivia invited her up but Alejandra said she needed to go home and rest, saying the morning had been very weird. Olivia told her that Elena was very intense but she should not worry about her. Alejandra said she was uncomfortable around her. Elena had always been jealous but they are now divorced. It is all over for Ricardo. Alejandra said that she saw that but Elena obviously doesn't want to know that. Olivia agreed. “I'm sorry for her but she has to learn that. Ricardo will never go back to her.”
  • Elena walked back to her car with her children. She questioned them about their impressions of Alejandra. The described the introduction and Elena asked them whether Ricardo was going out with her. Natalia said that they were just friends. Elena then said that this could mean that Ricardo would want to spend more time with her and therefore less with them. She was planting the idea in their heads that they would suffer for this. When their smiles disappeared the told them to not look sad and to act like adults.
Then she motioned them into the car and smiled smugly to herself. [Bitch]
  • Alejandra told Paula about the party and that something odd happened between the hosts. She also talked about Elena and how she behaved. Paula said that this jealousy was normal, but Alejandra told her it made no sense since it was Elena who had been unfaithful. She had difficulty understanding how things like this happened. Paula began imparting some of her own wisdom and how she couldn't understand women who put up with infidelity and other ill treatment. She finally said that “You need to be happy in yourself” before anything else. [We can bet that Elena never was.]
  • Ricardo and Luis arrived at Elena's apartment to pick up Federico. She made a fake fuss over the birthday boy and sent him to Federico so she could gaslight  Ricardo some more. She said it would be better if he left Luis there rather than taking him and Federico home with him so they wouldn't be exposed to Alejandra. That her children didn't want to see him with anyone else. When he tried explaining that they were only friends no matter what she thought she said that it didn't look that way to the children. When he said he wanted to talk to them about this she should not allow him to. She went on about how confused the children were and what work it was calming them down, and that she didn't want this getting worse.
“I brought the children to the party for you to see them and the result was worse. Therefore, I can't let you be with them to let this happen.”
“You're making much more of this than there is.”
“Ricardo, we are talking about my children. Whatever happens to my children and how big it is important to me. You understand that, don't you?” She paused, waiting for a reaction. “If you are really with Alejandra it will hurt them. Leave them here and let them be calm.”
Sadly, Ricardo only gave her a suspicious look. Then he pressed the elevator button and left when it came up for him. [Ricardo, you just disappointed us.]
  • The following morning (which must be Monday) Alejandra visited Carlos in prison. He pulled the lonely lover act again and complained that every day he saw her less and less. He played on her pity, even cried.

  • While Roberto watched from a rear seat, Victoria presented the case for custody of Rocio's children. Dario was behind bars in the defendant cell as Victoria said that the violence went on for years. That the defendant had threatened to take away the children and leave his wife in the street. She forgave him repeatedly for this because of her vulnerable position. Victoria called the couple's maid, Florencia Garrido, to testify. The maid had worked for them for ten years and testified that they were always fighting and that Señora Durán frequently had bruises and was afraid.. The husband once called his wife a woman of the streets in front of the father of the children and threatened to kill her if he ever saw her with anyone.

  • Gustavo tried calling Isabel but it went to her voicemail. He didn't leave a message. Ricardo told him Isabel was hurt and he had to give it time. He was sure that this could be fixed because Isabel loved him. Gustavo was still delusional in wondering how this could have happened. Ricardo asked whether Milena ever threatened him. He replied that Milena didn't take the breakup well. He then said he would see her about this but Ricardo told him to calm down first because now he knows what she is capable of. Gustavo looked confused and worried.

I can't guarantee a regular set of screenshots but this episode really needed them.

Elena is so pathetic and I hope Alejandra continues to make inroads. What I really want to see happen soon is Natalia asking her questions about her work and coming home to tell Elena "I want to be a lawyer just like Alejandra!"

Urban, thank you for your amazingly detailed recap, insightful asides and great screenshots of this eventful episode. I especially loved your screenshots of Gustavo -they perfectly portray his sniveling essence.

Between Elena, Benjamin and Gustavo, I don't know whom to hate more, they are all so very horrible.

Elena is such a manipulative hypocrite and a horrible mother to boot. The way she treats her children is borderline emotional child abuse. However, she only gets away with her behavior because Ricardo lets her and caves to her ridiculous demands. He should have long ago petitioned the court for visitation rights. Maybe he could even consider the involvement of child welfare services. I am sure that psychologists would concur that that kind of maternal behavior is harmful to the children.

Benjamin granting his wife authorization for one day to eat sweets was so disgusting I almost needed a barf bag to get me through this scene. How Leticia can be with such a loser is beyond my comprehension. And it's not like associating with him benefited her in any way. She should have given him the boot immediately after the senior lawyer position fiasco.

And Gustavo, such a horrible terrible no good hypocrite cheater now crying his crocodile tears after being caught. To say that having a year long relationship with a sex tape to boot is a simple mistake is so hypocritical and dishonest that in Isabel's place I would have slapped his teeth out on the spot. I guess I am terribly bothered by the dishonesty of it all : Gustavo keeps saying that he is happy with Isabel and loves her, when this is obvious not true. Were he happy with her, he wouldn't have had a year long affair with another woman. And what bothers me even more is him putting all the blame on Milena. He keeps saying "segui su juego as if he was some poor and innocent blanca paloma and the big bad Milena prayed on him and forced him to have sex with her for a year, when in reality he was very willing and eager and I bet he also willingly participated at the recording of that sex tape, since the camera is positioned mere centimeters away from his face and he couldn't not to have noticed it.

Irene

Thanks Urban,the screenshots are superb.

Don't get what Leticia finds attractive about Benjamin who is so repulsive. I was gagging through every one of his scenes.

Elena is pure evil, how can she be happy and smiley after practically ripping all the joy and little happiness those kids had. Of course, they are never happy at home with her so she had to make sure they went back home the same.

I was holding my breath the whole time Fede and Luis had that porno disk.

As far as Dario's trial is concerned, it looks like it's the actual murder trial since the judge told Victoria "Licenciada, refierace al acusado como debido" when Victoria called Dario "este tipo", which implies that Dario is on trial and not a party to a custody case. Also, he is behind bars and a witness is being sworn, which further points to a criminal prosecution.

If this is indeed a criminal prosecution, then Victoria acting as a prosecutor is, again, a substantial mistake of law and also illogical in the PASL universe itself, since we are already acquainted with a murder case being prosecuted by an actual prosecutor (the woman with the ponytail prosecuting Carlos). I hate that for the sake of the plot and in order to showcase Victoria, they fell into such a contradiction.

What's more, Victoria is a witness in this murder case, and it is outrageous that a witness is both prosecuting and testifying at the same time, which Victoria does towards the end of the episode.

I am all for avoiding the boring parts of law and stretching the truth a little bit for creative reasons, since it's a telenovela after all, but no beanie in the world can help me accept such gross inaccuracy and I am very disappointed with the writers.

Irene

Ava, Benjamin is repulsive. Apart from being less attractive than the other men in the firm his general behavior is repulsive. When he attacks the others during the staff meeting Alonso should be calling him into his office immediately thereafter and letting him know this is unacceptable. Ricardo has done this once and now Benjamin needs to be given either his last warning or his walking papers.

It would be beautifully ironic if Karina were to be cheating on Benjamin. I hope we get to know her better because I'd like her to be as nice a person as Isabel, but to ultimately have a steel spine. She looks like she could stomp him into next week if she had to. She has to.

Irene, I agree that the writers should not be conflating the murder charge and the custody issue; these should be dealt with separately. I wonder how many people in Mexico are writing in to Televisa about this, since this series is currently in production. The custody issue should have been dealt with in the same courtroom as Daniela's petition and heard by the same judge or any other we have seen there. Whether Dario should have been present is another question.

Gustavo is an idiot for having cheated on Isabel and he's learning his lesson too late. If Isabel never changes her mind and never forgives him I would not blame her a bit. I hope she came from money and has money of her own, but Gustavo will still have to pay and pay big for this. Ricardo's statement is a prediction that this will be a classic Fatal Attraction, so I hope that Luis doesn't have any pets.

Elena is a narcissist and all parental narcissists are abusive. She is messing with her children's minds in order to hurt Ricardo or reel him back in. I think he is at a loss as to how to deal with her more effectively. He should definitely have petitioned the court for visitation rights, as he has been the children's father for ten years. The kids are also old enough to testify although who knows what Elena might brainwash them to say. I think she may be just evil enough to try to get Natalia to accuse Ricardo of sexual abuse and we don't know if she has enough backbone yet to refuse to tell such an outrageous lie.

The problem with this situation is that CPS (in the US, anyway) prioritizes physical abuse and there is enough of that so that emotional abuse of this type is often neglected or ignored. "Children are resilient" is often the excuse, but speaking as the daughter of a narcissistic mother I can say that early emotional damage defies a lot of later intellectual understanding of the situation.

Good Morning everyone. Thanks UA for another excellent telling.
It was like the nose on your face as soon as the Miserable Bitches (E&L) arrived at the party, they were having NO fun. Everyone else was mingling, chatting, trying to remember this is for the children. Rather, they were standing there sizing up the situation and plotting how to make other people miserable also if they could.

I take it back about Elena having a 'Spank Me' ass. But she DOES have a 'Punch Me' face, though

I'm glad they didn't make us wait until episode 87 to see the nuclear DVD viewed.

What's with all the blubbering and squalling, Gus? Man up, look at your wife and admit that you've been caught. Then pack your shit and get out. She needs time to think. The ball is nolonger in your court. Thankfully your whore has played her trump card first and realistically has no more arrows in her quiver. Call her up, tell her that the real reason you ended it is because she is a dead fish in bed, and BTW, you and the wife are working through it. (a tiny little lie)

Urban, I think that while Elena is a horrid bitch and a horrible mother, she wouldn't stoop so low as to accuse Ricardo of sexual abuse. So far, her evil doing was on a very minor scale, compared to some really awful villains from other telenovelas. Uttering such an accusation would be a point of no return for her relationship with Ricardo. He would hate her guts and any chance of reconciliation would be gone forever.

Irene

Kirby, that is right on!

Irene, that is true. However, how many times can she take his rejections before doing such a thing? He will eventually get together with Alejandra an she will eventually see them together. That will be her point of no return and she will also go on and try to land somebody with more money.

Thanks UA so much for the recap. Every day I record the episode on my DVR then look at it later. For some reason this episode did not record, so I appreciate the nice summary.

Bienvenito Lester! Thanks for joining us and I hope you will stick with this series for the long haul.

Urban, thanks. Fine recap and screenshots. Ricardo saw more of his colleague than he ever asked for -- Love your dry wit and commentary.

Isabel's devastation was heartbreaking. I wanted her to kick the crap out of Gustavo. His sadness at seeing his wife in such pain was a far cry from that arrogant cock of the walk strut when he'd head to Milena's. Loved seeing his downfall.

Ricardo is between a rock and a hard place, with no legal parental rights whatsoever he's got to tread softly with Elena. Too bad for him the kids are too young to put their foot down with their mother.

Carlos seems to be genuinely losing it behind bars. That didn't seem like an act. Regardless, Alejandra shouldn't take him back.

She shouldn't take him back. He cheated on her with a hooker and who knows what he could have caught. Since the report said that he left a deposit in her bank he was obviously not taking precautions against disease or pregnancy. Unless that report was falsified.

Even if it were his whole possessive attitude toward her is sick. That he is losing it means he will be worse when he gets out.

Leticia is fine with Benjamin acting like his wife is a fat unattractiv slob because in her mind Karina is a fat unattractive slob compared to her, a younger girl with a hot body. But something tells me when Karina finds out about Benjamin & Leticia she's going to let them have it. I also think Karina has the money in the relationship, not Benjamin. I don't think Karina is a dumb as Benjamin & Leticia think she is. She's also pretty perceptive because she was the first one (outside of the Ric/Gus/Ale/Oli) group to realize something was wrong.

I don't think Gustavo is lying about being happy with Isabel. I think he was happy with Isabel & loves her dearly. However, he needs to get honest with himself. He can't tell the truth to Isabel if he can't tell the truth to himself, which is the love Isabel had for him was not enough for him, he loved the ego boost Milena gave him and he wanted to have his cake and eat it too. He never would've dumped Milena had Milena stayed in her place. He loved the respectability & adoration from Isabel and the hot sex and ego boost from Milena. And even him begging Isabel back is more about him not wanting to feel bad than it is about her.

I do think Gustavo loves Isabel and always has but Gustavo loves Gustavo more and he needs to accept that. He needs to leave Isabel alone to process what just happened to her. Because the last year of her life has been a lie. Because her husband did not protect her (or their child) from Milena. Because her husband set her up to be humiliated by Milena because he wanted to cover his own ass.

Isabel may well decide to stay with Gustavo but she will never look at him with the adoration she looked at him with before the revelation and she will never fully trust him.

Gustavo also needs to sit in thought and truly decide whether he really wants to be with ISABEL or if what he really wants is his nice image with a respectable wife, nice home & well mannered chid. What does he really want...independent of whether Isabel stays with him or not.

Both of them need to do the internal work. That's the only way their marriage will survive and Isabel is well within her rights not to return to Gustavo.

They haven't seen the last of Milena because I think Milena is either pregnant with Gustavo Jr. or she's going Fatal Attraction on Isabel.

Ages of the kids:

Ricardo was said to have been married to Elena for 10 years, and Natalia was 1 at the time. So Natalia and Federico are around 11 and 13.

Gustavo & Isabel were married for 10 years, so unless they got married after Luis was born, Luis is no older than 10.

Don't know how old Benjamin Jr. is.

When Isabel was insulting Milena to Gustavo, did she call her "indiota" or "idiota"?I thought I heard the former, but wasn't sure. Her suffering was unnecessary, but Gustavo's tears didn't seem fake. Their kid's birthday is forever marked.

Elena is ridiculously manipulative and passive aggressive. Ricardo should send the state to check up on that. Her kids seem like a tedious chore to her.

Still don't get why Leticia is after Benjamin. He keeps telling her he can't leave his wife yet. She might pull a Milena later on too.

Leticia can't stand Elena apparently. She should take a look at herself, the way they were eyeing the people at the party shows how miserable both of them are inside.

anon1146

I'm guessing -- based on the appearances of most of the children -- that Ben Jr is the same age as Luis or Natalia. Federico looked to be the oldest kid at the party.

I agree that Karina will really punish her rata de dos patas when the time comes and I hope we all get a good laugh out of it.

I, too, was on pins and needles over the boys and the disc.

Someone made a comment about this possibility the other day, so I hope everyone remembers that spoilers are not permitted here. Do not look at either Wikipedia or IMDb because episode titles have spoilers in the.

Don't have time to read all the comments yet, but did enjoy the recap thoroughly, Urban. Thank you.

If this sentiment has already been covered, so be it. I'm not feeling anything good towards Gustavo. So he ended a year-long affair....HE GOT CAUGHT and now he says it didn't mean anything and Isabel & Lui8s are his whole life. He's pitiful in his pleading. (Well done, Sergio B., you nailed it)

Be back later.

Niecie and I so often like the same lines:

"Ricardo saw more of his colleague than he ever asked for" was just perfect...and comic relief in the midst of this very sad and ugly episode.

The small paper cuts of Elena's remarks to Alejandra, the chronic unkindness of Leticia, Benjamin's repulsive monitoring of his wife's caloric intake, and then Elena's ill treatment of both the children and Ricardo, were simply the backdrop to the horror of a devoted wife seeing her husband rolling around in the bed with someone else.

Infidelity is devastating when you just hear about it; when you have the misfortune of actually seeing it...unspeakable harm.

I can see these two eventually trying to patch things up for the sake of the child, but it can never really work. Isabel would be incapable of respecting or trusting her husband after that.

Such a sad scenario. And something that happens so very often in a marriage. Psychic abuse as opposed to the violent and fatal abuse of Rocio. If you think about it, other than Ricardo and Leonardo, men are portrayed in a very bad light in this one.

Thanks for covering the carnage with your usual professionalism and skill, UA. A sad story indeed.

Urban I made that comment about the disk falling into Luis' hands but I never expected it to come true,LOL!

BTW,I think noticed Geraldine and Soto's younger daughter at the party among the kids while Oli and Ale were handing out the candy baskets to them.

Thank you Urban, really good recap. Likin the snark.

Judy B, I think we maybe should also add Juan to the very small list of good men on this telenovela. However, while he is certainly a good and decent guy, somehow I find him extremely irritating. I guess it's his momma's boy behavior, cheerful enthusiasm, exaggerated naivety and eagerness to serve and ridiculous admiration of everything Vega and associates. All that would have been appropriate if he were 25 and fresh out of law school, but the actor portraying Juan is 42 and it shows, so there is no way he can pass for a recent graduate.

Irene

I don't think Karina is stupid or clueless.

Benjamin and Lety think she's stupid and clueless.

Karina may not know about the affair.

But when she finds out I think she will take care of business.

Benjamin thinks she's a fat battleaxe with low self esteem.

She didn't appear that way last night.

Maybe Juan went to law school really late? Being obviously underprivileged, he wouldn't have been able to go earlier. Maybe he's not meant to portray someone as 25 or 42, but somewhere in the middle. I find his mother irritating though, especially regarding the computer lady. The door was right there- there was no need to invite her to knock his door.

I was just thinking that the role of Juan should probably have gone to Raúl Coronado, which would have made him equal to Jimmy Smits' Victor Sifuentes. However, Juan is a bit of a hothead and will need to tone that down if he is to achieve the career he seems to want.

Anon 1146, you might be right about Juan, but I think his mother would have proudly mentioned it long ago while praising her son that he had to work for many years to afford to go to law school. I agree with you that that mother is very irritating, with her overbearing and clingy attitude and a tendency to treat her middle aged son as a teenager.

Urban, while I find Juan extremely attractive with his lovely dimples and gorgeous smile, I think a much younger actor would better fit this role the way it is portrayed.
I hope they will flesh this character more and tone it down with his youthful admiration of other lawyers and blushing flower behavior.

Back with nothing to add. Our regulars and our newbies covered it all so well. I'm sure the trajectory will try to put Gus and Isa back together, but for the sake of women everywhere I hope she sticks to her guns and throws the bum out. Ok now, if Ale can't forgive Carlos for a one-night stand with someone he didn't know until that night, I just can't see Isa forgiving Gus for a one-year stand, even for the sake of the child. Luis is better off learning morals from his mother.

And Elena? What a vindictive b-so-and-so-tch. I guess she's already erased her own infidelity from her mind (ya, I guess it can go both ways in this world--remember Ana Karenina). She ONLY has her kids to fight with for Ric and the two kids will be the losers. Will Ric use legal means to get access to the kids?

I said earlier that Elena trying to keep two tech-savvy kids (or at least one) from contacting their dad is ludicrous. I hope the telenovela gods (and writers) will take into consideration what year they are writing this for.)

For a fitting example of the spiteful dishonest Beyotch Elena is, note what she said to Ricky:

"You can't judge me for being unfaithful when you took her in to work with you.”

Excuse me, AFTER he was divorced from you for cheating on him?
Talk about twisted logic. Ric should have told her right then and there that she is forking crazy, and he doesn't discuss things with unhinged cray cray people.

Kirby, Ric could have and should have told Elena off long time ago, but unfortunately he totally lacks the "cojones" necessary to do so. So far, he has been pretty spineless and let her manipulate him and, worse, manipulate the children.

He needs to start thinking like a lawyer and look at the legal options that are available to him, such as petitioning the court for visitation rights with the children and, if necessary and for the sake of the children, having child services involved.

Irene

Yay, Irene, you go girl--speaking like a lawyer. Call Televisa.....

Great point, Kirby. Elena can't make that accusation since Ricardo didn't even meet Alejandra until after the divorce was signed.

Has anyone else noticed that most of the novela mansions of the last few years have very modern furniture and much more sunlight than the ones of the past? Also, since priests aren't as prominent anymore this should mean that more modern attitudes and situations need to be in the stories.

UA: Elena will be coming up with numerous ways to make Ricardo's life miserable.

Steve, you mean additional ways?

Hey I got a good look at that outfit
Is a was wearing, the floral skirt and
The brown strip blouse. Is the wardrobe
Trying something new? That was very not
A good match. At all. Now I'm not a
Fashinista, but that I would not pair
That two pieces of garments together.
Simply cuz I just don't think they are
Good together.Ok they look mismatched.
But she Is a nice person, married to a
Really dumb man.

Anita, I would like to offer Televisa to consult for them - completely free of charge and available immediately. Hell, I would probably be willing to pay for such an opportunity (it would certainly help keeping my blood pressure at normal range when watching certain episodes).

Irene

If my Spanish were better I'd want to write novelas!

Urban, after suffering through several "gems" probably written by third graders with attention span of a gold fish, I can unequivocally say that Televisa would be lucky to have you writing for them. You write so well and you have a lot of experience with telenovelas.
