Papa a Toda Madre #71 4.26.18: Who Was That Masked Man?

Or If You're Planning Evil Deeds Together, Are You Surprised When Your Partner-In-Crime Turns Out to Be Evil?

Neron arrives home and announces his arrival. Flor comes out and greets him with a smile and a freshly shaved head. Neron’s jaw hits the floor and he gets teary eyed as Flor asks him if he won’t love her bald. Neron tells her he will love her however and Flor realizes that he’s just sad to see her without hair. She tells him to cry if he needs to and he does after giving her a kiss. Flor smiles and gives him a hug.

At home, Mauricio asks Maria how she ended up in Guatemala in the first place. Maria explains that, when she received death threats in San Crispin, she went to go hide in Guatemala, which was were she was arrested for crimes against the government. She assumed it was the corporations they were fighting against, but the worst part was that drugs were planted on them, so they were imprisoned for a lot longer than expected. Mauricio thinks Fabian could’ve planted the drugs also and Maria explains that she’s trying to find out who exactly reported them, so they can compare notes. Mauricio wonders if Fabian could be hiding the proof of his deeds at home, since he couldn’t find anything in Logatoys, and Maria agrees that her whole arrest and release were weird.

In her room, Lili tells Valentina that she is still so in love with Pablo, especially because he’s different from all the men in her life currently, namely, Baldo and Jorge. Valentina thinks that’s great, especially because she has the biggest attitude, but Pablo still loves her, but Lili tells her she doesn’t, and they have mini pillow fight. Lili then asks Valentina what she is doing, and Valentina shows her a boy named Danny’s Facebook friend request. Valentina thinks he’s cute and all but doesn’t accept requests from strangers, on top of the fact she has never seen him in person. Lili thinks she should add him either way, check out his profile, and then decide.

Mauricio confirms that Fabian has lived in the same house since childhood and Maria suggests they go. Mauricio doubts Fabian would let them in and suggests they sneak in like Renee did. He offers to ask her how she did it, which makes Maria uncomfortable, but then wonders if he would be able to sneak in. Maria confirms she could climb the fence, as Anifer learned to climb trees from her, and Mauricio nods. Just then, Renee knocks on the door and Mauricio answers. She greets them and asks Maria if she can see Anifer. Maria nods and Renee thanks her before going to Anifer’s room.

Valentina adds Danny and she and Lili look over the profile. Lili doesn’t think he looks weird or stalkerish and Valentina agrees. Danny then sends her a message, happy that she accepted his request, and Valentina decides to answer.

Renee tells Anifer that she’s happy to see her so happy and Anifer smiles before asking if she found her father or not. Renee confirms it’s very complicated, but she has someone who can help her find out the truth. She confirms that this man could help her find out the truth and Anifer thinks she should be excited to find out who her father is, really. Renee nods and Anifer tells her that she always wanted to find out more about her father when she lived with Maria and is happy to have done it. Renee confesses that she does too and sighs.

Tono walks around the cul-de-sac park and pulls out his cell phone to call his father so they can talk. His father thinks he wants to talk to his mother but Tono wants to talk to him, to tell him about his plans, but his father seems less than enthusiastic about it. He asks Tono if Veronica still works and Tono tells him she does, but he does too. He tries to tell him more, but his father suggests they talk in person, whenever he comes to see him, and asks if he wants to speak to Esperanza or if they hang up. Tono tells him he does not, and they hang up. After a moment, Tono looks up at the sky, wondering how his dad could be so cold.

Renee tries to sneak out of Mauricio’s, but he catches her and begs her not to leave like that. She stops and confesses that she wanted to tell him something but stops herself. Mauricio knows what she wants to say: that Noel was her father and Fabian her brother. He doubts this is true though because Noel loved his wife like his father loved his mother. Renee nods, thanks him coldly, and walks out.

The next day, Renee watches from the street as Fabian speeds away from his house. After a moment, she walks across the street, with a letter in hand, and begins to ring the doorbell, hoping Noel will answer today. He doesn’t, and she begs to scream for him to answer. She hopes that he read her letter and warns him that she will be there every day if he doesn’t tell her the truth. She asks for only 10 minutes so that they can resolve everything between them: her house’s title, the robot design, and the truth about her father. She begs him to tell her more about her father, Noel, and tells him that she is going to leave another letter for him. She waits a second and then drops the letter through the door and begins to walk away but Noel opens the door this time, as Renee smiles.

In her suite, Kika chats with her associate and tells them that she’s happy to know the meeting with Mr. Turrubiates went great. She then goes to answer the door and it’s Jorge, who takes her in his arms, and tells her the good news: he has a job again! Kika is more than happy to hear as Jorge explains that he can work from home and still care for his kids, see her, be a part of the cooperative company AND the salary is also amazing. Kika smiles and tells him that he can also leave the job as soon as his company takes off, but Jorge tells her that he would never leave his dream job. Kika grows serious but can’t consider this as Jorge kisses her and they fall on the couch.

In his lair, Noel assures Renee that he will talk to Fabian about her house and promises that he won’t take it away from her. Regarding the robot design though, things are a little more complicated because the design has a long history. Renee asks him to tell her that history but first, she wants to know if she is Bosco’s daughter. Noel confirms she is not, and could never be, before smiling because she has Catalina’s same smile. Renee asks if he is actually Noel, and not his brother, and Noel confesses that he is. She asks him, point \blank, if he’s her father. Noel sighs deeply.

Outside Fabian’s, Mauricio and Maria arrive and Maria asks him for help to climb the fence. Mauricio prefers to try to climb the fence first, but he fails and Maria hands him her stuff so that she can climb the fence. He asks her to be careful as Renee told him that he lives with an elderly person, but Maria is tried of hearing about Renee. She asks if he has anything else to tell her about Renee, but Mauricio shakes his head as he looks around and realizes how decrepit the house as become. He doesn’t notice that, during his speech, Maria has climbed the fence and opened the door for him.

Renee looks out the window and realizes that Mauricio and Maria have arrived. Noel begins to panic and asks Renee to not let them find him. Renee confirms Mauricio remembers him fondly, but Noel insists that Mauricio not see him. He begs Renee to help him.

Mauricio looks around the front yard with Maria and runs into Renee. He wonders why she is there and Renee tries to ask him and Maria, but Mauricio asked first so Renee tells him about the custody battle for her house and how she is there to try and find proof the house is hers. Mauricio thought she already came for that before and Renee explains that the old man Fabian cares for stopped her before, so she had to come back. Mauricio wonders if the house is empty but Renee wants to know what they are doing there. Mauricio explains that they are looking for proof and Renee asks what for.

At her job, Veronica comes into the lunch room with a cake and sings “happy birthday” to one of her coworkers, Goya, who is shocked. Tono, who is standing behind him, thinks it’s great she brought Goya a cake, and Veronica asks him to blow out the candle and make a wish. Goya does but blows right into Veronica’s face and hair as well. She could not look more annoyed but the whole ordeal.

Mauricio explains to Renee what happened to Maria and Renee doesn’t doubt that Fabian did what they think he did. Maria explains that they don’t have proof though and are there looking for it. Mauricio tries to walk into the house, and wonders where the proof could be, but Renee thinks they should leave lest Fabian come back, find them, and call the police. Mauricio doesn’t think so and Maria suggests he lead the way since he used to spend a lot of time there. They walk inside as Renee wonders what to do.

Jorge tells Kika about Lili’s new plans with Pablo and asks her for more time because their relationship is not the most important thing in his life right now. Kika reminds him that Pablo is 18 and Lili is also about to be, so he should stop trying to separate them. Jorge reminds her that Lili is his business, so he has to think about what to do so that she can have the best life possible. Kika is (STILL) shocked that he can be so classist, conservative, homophobic, and racist but Jorge demands to know why she’s insulting him, especially because she’s the classist one, who calls his house a dump and Renee a maid. Kika admits that she did but love has changed her, and she loves him with all her heart. Jorge nods and Kika kisses him before they fall on the couch again.

Mauricio arrives at Noel’s lair and looks around, surprised at all the small figurines and replicas of Logatoys, etc. As Renee and Maria follow him around, Mauricio realizes that the logo on the Logatoys replica is the same as it was when the fire that killed Aurora occurred.

Veronica and Adelina pass around pieces of cake to all the employees and Veronica screams that they can do this every time, for all the birthdays, and open up a new group chat! She suggests they call it “Corporate Birthdays” and Tono thinks the creative juices are definitely following as everyone laughs. Veronica calls out his name and demands he meet her in the office before walking away.

In her office, Veronica demands to know why Tono is trying to ruin her plan to be loved in the office. Tono suggests she stop trying too hard and stop being so fake and smiling so much. Veronica thinks she should try his stupid jokes but Tono reminds her that he is very funny. Veronica doubts it but Tono wants to bet on it and see who is the most well liked in the police. Veronica shakes his hand, and may the best man win.

Rodrigo and Rafael visit an orphanage and ask the administrator for more information on the adoption process. She suggests they come back with their wives, but they laugh and reveal that they are a couple and hold hands. The administrator continues to smile but looks visibly uncomfortable as the men tell her that they are ready to be parents and love their son or daughter with all their hearts and teach them values. The administrator laughs at the word “values” and then explains that it is her duty to let them know there is a lot of paperwork and the process is long. The men are ready for anything, but the administrator insists that not everyone is ready to be parents, especially an adopted child with two men as parents. Rodrigo is tired of her “suggestions” and asks that she let them know what they need to adopt and that’s it.

Mauricio explains to Maria and Renee that he found his father crying outside of the assembly line, just like in the replica. He then finds two replicas of himself and Fabian as children and then another of Aurora. He picks her up and shows Renee and Maria before picking up a masked man in the replica. He wonders who the man is, but Maria and Renee suggest they leave as they’ve found nothing and the lair is starting to freak them out. They drag him out and he goes, still in thought about what he has seen.

At school, Baldo and his friends talk about an upcoming trip, which is quite expensive for Baldo, but he wants to go and will ask Jorge for the money. He hopes Jorge gives him enough to even pay for one of his friends. They all smile.

Across the way, Valentina shows her friends pictures of Danny and they all tell her that he’s cute. She then receives a message and turns around to answer in private. She has him for more details about his life and we learn that Danny is in college and his parents are divorced, like Valentina’s.

Outside Fabian’s, everyone goes out and Renee thanks her lucky stars that Fabian didn’t catch them. Mauricio is still surprised about what he saw and can’t understand why Fabian did a replica of that day. Maria suggests they leave, lest Fabian catch, and Renee tells them that she is going elsewhere when Mauricio offers to take her back to the cul-de-sac. Mauricio wonders what she will be doing but then realizes it is no longer his business. He leaves with Maria and neither notice that Renee doubles back after they’ve left to continue talking to Noel.

The orphanage administrator tells Rodrigo and Rafael that she would need everything filled or she can’t process the file and asks them (AGAIN!) to be very patient. Rafael tells her that they are ready for everything and the administrator warns them that a lot of couples don’t finish and decide to adopt a dog, so they don’t feel so alone. Rodrigo reveals that Rafael is a vet and can give her a dog, so she can smile more often. They then shake the woman’s hand and leave without another word. Once alone, the woman shakes her head at the whole situation.

Veronica meets with two co-workers in her office and Tono is there, cracking jokes, until Veronica chides him. She offers the men candy but then insists they only take one and not be selfish. Tono continues his degrading jokes about his wife, Sophia, though so Veronica makes a job about her husband but none of the men laugh. Behind the co-workers, Tono reminds her that he is wining and smiles.

Renee is sitting with Noel in his lair again and asks him to tell her more about his romance with her mother. Noel tells her that he’s very tried today and asks her to come back tomorrow, so they can talk. Renee nods and leaves.

Maria arrives at home with Mauricio and asks him why he has been so quiet. Mauricio confesses that he’s had a bad feeling since he saw the replica and wonders if the fire wasn’t an accident like he though. He wonders what would happen if things happened a lot differently than how he remembered them.

In Logatoys, Fabian talks to a US contact and tells him he will keep him informed of his new toy line when he knows the exact date. He hangs up as Falcon comes, oblivious to a new toy launch. Fabian reminds him that the next toy needs to make a big splash and they may sell the rights to other countries in advance. Falcon had no idea he has so much confidence in Noel’s robot design, but Fabian confirms he does.

In her office, Veronica asks Adelina if she’s seen Tono and she explains that he’s very friendly and is always talking with everyone. Veronica thinks he’s a lout, but Adelina tells him he is not, in fact, he’s a great man who is working part time because he has to take care of his children. Veronica explains that she heard his wife works all day, and she must be doing better than him, so that’s why he works part time. Adelina thinks his wife must be a witch, but Veronica insists that they must support their fellow women as they always sacrifice themselves and now it’s Tono’s turn. Adelina thinks she must know his wife, but Veronica shakes her head. After an uncomfortable moment, Adelina tells Veronica that she still thinks Tono is great and leaves. Veronica tells herself that she must be a witch then.

At home, Jorge tells his children about his new job, which he will be doing from home, and tells Lili that he will also try to be more like a “
mother.” Lili shrugs as Valentina asks if he is going to have a girlfriend or, at the very least, a crush. Jorge shake his head, but Valentina tells him that he should have someone to love him, but Samuel thinks she’s being too cheesy. Jorge asks Samuel to get back to his homework as Baldo asks Jorge for money from his escrow account. Jorge reminds him that it’s for important manners only and shuts him down immediately. He then tells them to behave as he has a cooperative meeting and leaves.

Moments later, everyone sits around the table at Mauricio’s as Maria reminds them that they must provide a social benefit as well for their cooperative company to succeed. Mauricio thinks Maria has a way with words and then all the men to put whatever they can into the pot to be able to launch the company ASAP. Jorge reveals that he finally found a new job and they all congratulate him. Anifer comes then and asks Maria to take her get supplies for a project. Maria nods and takes Anifer as the men ask what is going on with Mauricio. Mauricio tells him his suspicions regarding Maria’s arrest and they all brainstorm about what to do to stop Fabian from ruining their plans at every turn. Mauricio thinks that, if they find proof that he incarcerated Maria unjustly, they can stop him.

Outside, Maria runs into Pablo and greets him. She asks if the Guatemalan community in the US have been able to help him find his father, but Pablo shakes his head. She offers to give him another contact but Pablo wonders if he will ever find his father since he only has one photo of him from 10 years ago.

At Renee’s, she tells Rafael about finding out Noel is 100% her father and she admits that nothing special happened, she just confirmed what she already knew. Rafael thinks Noel must be feeling very shocked though and happy and she can use that because he won’t let Fabian kick he rout of her house. Either way, he is curious about her mother’s love story with Noel, but Renee wants to know why the happy man Noel used to be, became such a bitter man. Rafael thinks it must be Fabian’s fault, since he has him locked up, but Renee hopes it’s not the case.

That night, Tono tells everyone at the meeting that Mauricio’s plan to uncover Fabian’s lies is the best; Mauricio thinks Fabian must be stopped, for their sake, Maria’s, and Renee’s. Neron then wonders what is going on with Maria and Renee and asks Mauricio if he still loves Renee. Mauricio reveals that he broke up with Renee, but he is not trying to jump into a relationship with Maria. He confirms he still loves Renee and cares for Maria, since she’s Anifer’s mother, but his heart is Maria’s. Tono and Neron tease him but Jorge thinks Mauricio is doing the right thing in trying to build a family with Maria. Neron can’t believe he has given up on Renee and Mauricio confesses that he’s now more confused about his feelings than ever.

The next day, Veronica brings another cake for her co-worker’s birthday and encourages everyone to get to know each other better and create a friendly work environment. Tono perks up and observes that the smell of cake and coffee are bringing more people to the break room every day. Veronica thinks it must be that they like her better and laughs at Tono when no one is looking.

In her suite, Kika and Jorge are making out in the bed when Jorge tells her that he has to go because he has to get to work. Kika suggests he work from her suite, and she can get his food and love him all day, but Jorge thinks she would be a distraction. Either way, he has to help Mauricio with the cooperative company as Fabian is getting in their way at every turn. Kika considers this and agrees that Fabian is a sneaky snake.

At school, Samuel stands on the second floor and calls out to Baldo who is sneaking out. Baldo sells him to be quiet and calls him. He tells Samuel to cover for him, like a good brother, and hangs up before leaving.

At Mauricio’s, Maria and Mauricio tell Rodrigo their theories and he suggests they look at Fabian’s bank accounts to see if they can follow the money trail because he must’ve bribed a lot of people. Maria asks Rodrigo if he can do it, but he would get in trouble if he did. Mauricio tells Maria that they have no other option, they must do this themselves. Maria nods.

Baldo goes to the bank and shows the representative his ID. He asks if he can withdraw some money since he will be 18 soon but she tells him that an escrow account is not like a bank account and he should talk to his father who has access to it. Baldo asks if he can see how much money is in there, at least, but the representative shakes her head again and tells him only Jorge can tell him. Baldo begs her to please help him, in the name of him and his sister, who are orphans. He tells her that he just wants to see how much money there is, so he can plan his future. She considers this.

Renee meets with Noel at his lair and asks him why he pretended to be dead all these years. Noel confesses that there are decisions that change your life completely, but Renee insists on knowing what made him such a bitter man. She doesn’t think it was easy for him or Fabian, hiding him all these years, and she reiterates that what Fabian did to Anifer was also unforgivable. Noel wants to know what Fabian did to Anifer and Renee tells him about Fabian’s secret plans to use Anifer to ruin Mauricio and then to take Logatoys. Noel is still confused, as he thought Anifer was Mauricio’s daughter, but Renee reveals that Anifer is Fabian’s daughter. Noel is shocked…

Thanks, Alfredo, the recap was excellent.

As soon as I saw Flor with her shaved head, all I could think of was head shaving event in SdA. Pretty scary! A clear case of “monkey see, monkey do.” No creativity out there?

More mañana.

Alfredo, thank you once again for a great recap.

Sometimes watching a TN makes me a bit crazier than usual. I was upset to see Flor with her shaved head (they must have paid her extra for this), but I was nowhere near as upset as Nerón, because I know it's a TN, not real life. And I still have hope for Flor.

But everybody just scaling the fence and walking into someone else's house is annoying in the extreme. Sometimes people get shot for breaking and entering someone else's home. Or it could get them thrown in jail. And it's just not a nice thing to do, eh? Sheesh!

I would love to see Vero and Toño cooperate and work together rather than what they are doing.

Where is Yolanda and her Wonderbra these days? Just asking.

:-)

andy

Thanks, Alfredo. It is always a treat to find one of your great recaps when I wander onto the patio in the morning .

Poor Flor. I can't believe that the writers of this comedy????decided to put her through this. Too real. My friend is enduring yet another round of chemo which she just told me is kicking her butt. Cruel.

The constant bickering between Tonto and Vero is getting more and more annoying . Now they are doing it at a new job. I can't imagine working at the same company as your spouse even if you get along.

Maria...another strong woman ...She climbs the fence and opens the door for big, manly Maury. We get it, writers.

Are we getting a new PSA about meeting strangers online with the Danny\Val storyline. Is Danny really a 50 year old inmate?

Andy, yes! The breaking into Noél/Fabián’s house was annoying at the least. Too much reality on one hand: Flor and her cancer and NO reality the next: breaking into someone’s house.

Anon, the main character shaving her head because of cancer treatment is what permanently put me off of that so-called comedy, drama, whatever it ended up being ??????Sueño de amor and hear we find ourselves again. Very off putting. The creators of tv just love copying each other theses days, not an original idea in their heads.

Sorry, Susanlynn, that I called you Anon. I was on my tablet and didn’t see your name.

Alfreo, another fantastic outing.

"Kika is (STILL) shocked that he can be so classist, conservative, homophobic'. Sadly, (sigh), we are not. Great line Alfredo.

"Flor comes out and greets him with a smile and a freshly shaved head". I readily admit I cried here. In that moment, I felt everything stirring in Neron’s head. And heart. The acting during the scene was perfect.

Jarifa, I think we all rue Sueno de dreck, don't we? I try to regret little but I felt we were robbed of hours of our lifves watching that catastrophe that we'll never get back. I was so ticked off, I never watched the finale.

Was Noel in love with Aurora??

“Lili doesn’t think he looks weird or stalkerish and Valentina agrees”. The picture posted does not. But who is actually behind it? Susanlynn, yes, I'd say a very twisted soul is hiding behind the young, smiling face. Watching one or two episodes of Catfish was enough to arouse suspicions of "chatting" online.

“Tono looks up at the sky, wondering how his dad could be so cold”. Yes, I wonder too…. No perfect papas portrayed anywhere here is there?

If there is little chemistry between Mau and Renee, I'm seeing none with Maria. Perhaps if she smiled a bit. She seems rather stern.

Andy, yes, I would also love to see Tono and Vero working in tandem. Or even having a fun, friendly competition where they could genuinely laugh with and at each other. A golden opportunity being squandered by the writers.

Rod and Raf were given a polite don't even bother, which belied the smile.

Maria seems poised to be the reason Pablo might find his father.

I suspect Jorge will not be too happy to find out that Kika has been playing the Wiz behind the curtain. His son will be less overjoyed to find his inheritance has been "borrowed".

Alfredo, thank you!

Happy Friday all!

Diana

Diana, “Sueño de dreck” indeed. You make me laugh. I would have quit that thing but was recapping. Still makes me shudder.

I could not believe Toño’s father. He is doing nothing but has no time to talk to his son. I felt sorry for Toño. It was very effective putting Toño in a swing so he seemed more like a kid.

Thank You Alfredo for another quality recap which you somehow find time to knock out. Thanks
Yeah, where is WonderBra? I miss her already, though if they continue to turn up the heat with Maria, she may soon be running a close second.

I See Mauricio is back to those stoooopid Horse Collars. That went out as the Joe College look twenty five years ago. Is that the point, or do we have another 'going to another country, Los Angeles' whooptiedoo from our mensa writers? They would have to staple that sweater or shank of upholstery fabric, whatever it is, to my hide for it to stay for long.

The Math: So human hair grows, I believe, about half an inch per month, according to the hair girl who does not understand why I think I only need a haircut every 6 to 8 weeks.

If Flor's hair is typically about a foot and a half long (18 inches) it will be three years growing back. I looked closely to see if there was any evidence that it was all camera/makeup trickery and if it is they fooled me and my normally Eagle Eyed TV. My show comes over the air so it is in High Definition 1080 which is razor sharp.

There seemed to be something significant Mauricio saw last night in the model shop with the toy soldiers and the logatoys sign. It was too complicated for me. Quadratic equations and calculus is about the top for me, and this was waaaaay above that. I will just wait and see if anything happens.

Love Kika. Patience of a saint and boobs of a hooker.

Thank you for your recap, Alfredo!

"Tono looks up at the sky, wondering how his dad could be so cold. ". --- maybe he is not Toño's real father? Family secrets?

Most everyone I know who has gone thru chemo shaves their head. Especially when it's their second go-round. They tell me it's easier and less depressing to lose it all at once than to see it come out in handfulls on a daily basis over time.

"Are we getting a new PSA about meeting strangers online with the Danny\Val storyline. Is Danny really a 50 year old inmate?"
Yep, looks like another PSA about the dangers of social media. And he probably is a 50 y/o inmate. Or perv. How does she know that really is a picture of him? Never accept a friend request from someone you don't know, Valentina! Stranger danger!!! 😳😳😳

Thanks AAA. Not sure I want to watch this episode. Too many shaved heads for real in my life to want to watch Flor go through that ordeal (it's just a story, just a story). Yes it's just a story, but it's also all around us. And the story never ends well.

" Kika suggests he work from her suite, and she can get his food and love him all day, but Jorge thinks she would be a distraction."

And how Kika would be a distraction!!!! But what a sweetie..."get his food and love him all day". Our Kika is ready to spin dross into gold at every opportunity.

I suspect Jorge will not be too happy to find out that Kika has been playing the Wiz behind the curtain. His son will be less overjoyed to find his inheritance has been "borrowed". Love that Diana "playing Wiz behind the curtain". And for sure it will come out and with dramatic repercussions. Sigh.

I'm less bothered by Toño's dad's brief phone conversation than the rest of you. Often men are NOT good at the sort of everyday chatting that goes on between mothers and their children. Men want information. When they have it, fine. Conversation done.

My own father loved us dearly and would DO anything to help us. But he wasn't good at chatty phone conversations and in letters he usually ended up talking about the weather and yard work. When you need empathy and a little "catching up" go to a woman. When you need a tire changed ask a man. We need listeners and chatters, but we also need problem solvers. PapaMama dolls are great but most of us are better at one role rather than another. I was blessed to have both a mama and a papa in my life. And I miss 'em both every day.

Alfredo, thanks as always. You are deeply appreciated by us all.

So if Noel knows Renee is his daughter, and Renee knows she is his daughter, where is that classic TN 'Call of the Blood' we always see with the crying and hugging and remorse and wishing what if and reconciliation?

Can Noel reign in Fabian short of killing him if the whim might happen to strike him someday before Fabian completely ruins everyone's party?

Is Noel's discovery of his long lost daughter going to salvage him form the gates of hell and cause him to turn on his evil Son Fabian? BTW, what caused Noel to become so bitter and what happened to Fabian?

JudyB I just wish the enlightened world at large could see men and women through your eyes.
Yes we are different, men are good at some things women are good at others. Together we can possibly form a great team worthy of creating life and rearing other little humans.

It has been drummed into us for---ever that we are equal, the same, except for a couple of tiny insignificant parts.
And yes we are equal, but FAR from the dame. I suspect by design.

same

Kirby, I suspect we'd all be a lot happier if we didn't pre-set agendas for other people to meet. We come with different gifts as individuals. And we come with different gifts as men and women. Nobody has the whole set, and yet we become outraged when someone doesn't measure up to our expectations.

Boy what a waste of emotion and energy trying to change other people instead of accepting and appreciating them as they are!!!! (There are limits to that obviously, and there are certain people who are flat out toxic or dangerous and need to be avoided.) That being said, the rest of us are just muddling through as best we can. And when treated with love and respect, most of us will do our best to "rise to the occasion".

JudyB signing off before the organ starts and they pass the collection plate

:-)

Good Morning! Mr. AAA, you are a masterful writer; thank you for the detailed retelling of this episode.

Andy, ITA about scaling the fence...and really, it doesn't make sense for someone to have faked his death, hidden all these years in this house and it doesn't have some type of security system?? Anyone can just climb over the fence without being seen or being questioned? It's not like the house is out in the boonies...it looks to be on a busy street.

I've never had anyone close to me go through chemo and lose their hair, but I do understand why they would want to shave their heads and no go through the depression and agony of seeing it fall off a little at a time. I didn't watch Sueno de Dreck either so this is a first for me. Diana, I agree, the acting was superb!

I don't think Noel was in love with Aurora. He blames Fabian for killing his wife so I'm thinking he must have loved his wife very much.

Kirby, Mauricio was already shocked to see the model of Logatoys as it used to be when his mother died; and when he saw the masked figure he was even more perplexed. He had always believed that the fire was an accident and seeing that masked figure made him have doubts.

I too was perturbed by Tono's father. He was very aloof and anxious to cut the conversation....could he still be ill?

Oh and Kirby, "So if Noel knows Renee is his daughter, and Renee knows she is his daughter, where is that classic TN 'Call of the Blood' we always see with the crying and hugging and remorse and wishing what if and reconciliation?" My thoughts exactly!! No drama, no tears, no reproaches...

Diana, I also noticed that Maria always looks stern. Have we ever seen her smile? Very different from the character she played in Vino....perky, ponytailed Erika.

Kirby and Judy....wise words...the problems always come when we do not see and treat people as individuals .

Judy...I think that you are right on the money about the differences between men and women regarding communication. I once read statistics about the number of words spoken daily ...big difference between men and women. This is true across cultures because my students always got a big kick out of those statistics. My dad never talked much, but when he as older, I would pick up the phone and he would be on the other end singing Stevie Wonder's, "I just called to say 'I love you.' "

KIki's new job seems to be the care and feeding of Jorge. Kiki seems to have a big database of experience with men , so what is it with this guy?

Kirby, I do think that sweet Renee will change Noel and perhaps make him turn against Fab. What happened to these two guys to make them spend so many years on this vendetta?

I agree that those cowls that Maury wears are echoes from the past..or standard issue for winters in Alaska. In one telenovela , they had sweaters draped around Colunga 's shoulders. Either put of on , or take it off.

Messages from the real world..another local department store closing here. Sad.

I have recently discovered that I can buy tires for THIS THING------------------------------------------>>>
cheaper on Amazon including shipping than I can buy them for at my Sam's Club.

That ended many years of paying a store to allow me to give them my money.

Why do I love the patio?

Jarifa, "It was very effective putting Toño in a swing so he seemed more like a kid" was spot on. It must have been an adult swing as he seemed so high in the air, his feet far from the ground.

"Quadratic equations and calculus is about the top for me". Ummm, simple addition and subtraction are the best I can do Kirby, but I'm impressed. Oh, and I think the actress really did shave her head too. No skull cap that I could see.

doris "Valentina! Stranger danger!!! 😳😳😳" Yup, shades of the Lost in Space Robot :)

"We come with different gifts as individuals. And we come with different gifts as men and women. Nobody has the whole set, and yet we become outraged when someone doesn't measure up to our expectations". Beautiful and true Judy.

"My dad never talked much, but when he as older, I would pick up the phone and he would be on the other end singing Stevie Wonder's, "I just called to say 'I love you.' " OMG Susnalynn. Tears just came. I can't imagine!!

Rgv Chick," I too was perturbed by Tono's father. He was very aloof and anxious to cut the conversation....could he still be ill?" I think he is physically ill, in addition to being a cruel abuser. While adults need to make choices as they mature, Noel's gift was a crumbling foundation for Fabian to begin with and he must bear his share of the guilt.

Thank you all!

Diana

" It must have been an adult swing as he seemed so high in the air, his feet far from the ground. "

Except that kid on Yolanda's soccer team is taller than Tono.

:-)

"Kiki seems to have a big database of experience with men" How Kind. A man would have never said it that way even with Divine inspiration.....

Part of my 'Portraits Collection' AKA how to sneak up on hungry birds.

Hi, Diana, my dad did this all the time. After he finished singing the line, I would say, "Hi Daddy, what,'s up?" And he would say, " Nothing. bye. " He was not a perfect guy , but he was a very sweet father. "Maybe

Kirby...wow , I love the snappy red truck !!! I have never joined one of those huge food clubs. We just get our food at the local grocery store and the local farmstands in summer. I used to like browsing the stores at our mall, but now I buy almost all my clothes online. I still frequent the drugstore. Life has Changed in so many of ways in the last few years.

",maybe" as compliments of my tablet which now sometimes types words that are not even close to what I type.

OT (Dorito avoidance) I have noticed in our neighborhood, many of the FedEx drivers are now delivering out of yellow Penske rental trucks. The driver has on a regular purple and orange FE uniform, but the truck is right off the lot.

I suspect that the home delivery business has grown so much that their official truck supplier can not keep up.

Also Amazon is now contracting with local delivery people driving their own vehicles to effect the next day or two day deliveries.

RE: Diablo your tablet. I have learned to never use my phone within earshot of any other thing, as occasionally it will suddenly switch from my fat fingers on the tiny pretend keyboard, to voice and type in a commercial from the TV.

I think it is just toying with me.

Thanks. Snappy and I have been through a lot of Indian wars together.

Kirby...we see a lot of the brown UPS trucks around here everyday. The UPS guys scurry in and out of houses as fast as they can. My daughter orders most things online. She recently started getting "Hello Fresh" which gives you the food and recipe for one meal.

The red rimmed eyes really stand out. Beautiful yellow, white and black...

Diana

Awesome photo Kirby. Think that it's my favorite of all. The "composition" is very artistic and striking.

One of my students is married to a UPS driver. Poor guy is only in his early fifties (that's young to me) and already needs a hip replacement from lifting and lugging around heavy packages (like the furniture you can order on the internet). Combine that with long driveways in our suburb and you've got a tough tough job.

After watching the episode, I understand why the fellow playing Nerón also won an award. Very poignant scene with Flor, who did indeed look shaved. And was still attractive, bless her. Just a painful scene indeed.

As was the adoption interview. Yes, the woman playing the intake person was snotty. But alas, what she was saying was true. Children do struggle with the stigma of adoption (or rather, "Why did my parents give me up, why didn't they love me enough to keep me and raise me, was I just an accident? not wanted?") and being raised by a gay couple is, sadly, an additional stigma. And I understand the gay prejudice is even greater in countries outside the US.

I did not like the way Rafa and Rodrigo were treated and spoken to. But the difficulties the woman alluded to were real. Growing up is hard. Even with two stable happily married parents. Growing up wondering why you were given up to others, and why your parents are so different from most of your friends just adds another brick to the load. We can only hope the additional difficulties serve to strengthen rather than weaken. It can go either way.

Stevie Wonder's "I Just Called to Say I Love You" is a beautiful, inspired song.

I suspect Jorge will not be too happy to find out that Kika has been playing the Wiz behind the curtain. His son will be less overjoyed to find his inheritance has been "borrowed".
Diana, thanks for reminding me, I had forgotten about this. The writers certainly have us thinking Jorge got the money from the trust fund. If that's the case he is in big trouble.

Kika amazes me that she is so willing to put up with so much, and do so much for Jorge. If, or when, Jorge finds out all she has done, how will he handle it? Jorge is a very complicated and often disappointing character.
Which reminds me of another loose thread, what happened to Dulce? After all the despuésing we have had she still hasn't contacted her kids??

OT............To continue the "I just called.."story.....my parents used to call family members early in the morning to sing happy birthday. After my dad died , I waited around for my mother to call on my birthday, but when there was no call, hub and I left for my birthday day out.I was feeling blue and looking out the car side window at the newly plowed spring fields when guess what came on the radio! I started to cry . I know that it was my farmer dad still singing to me on my birthday.

Oh my, I LOVE that story Susanlynn. Most of us have had "signs from beyond" but hesitate to share them, for fear of being laughed at or disbelieved. But I've had them too and I am very touched by your story. Love can cross boundaries of time and space, life here and life elsewhere, and thank goodness for that.

Thanks. The bird is a conventional brown pelican but in mating plumage where the head turns yellow and the neck white. Otherwise an unremarkable looking bird.

The White Pelicans who migrate here and then back North are the real stars. For their mating plumage they grow a small knot on the top of their bill about two thirds way out.

Susanlynn, that is such a sweet story. Thank you for sharing it with us. JudB, ITA how hesitant most of us are in sharing our experiences "beyond the norm, " so to speak, but have to admit I have had my share also. They have always given me hope.

WOW Susy, what a story. That would choke up anybody.
Thanks

Glad that some of you liked my story. I have more. I really do believe that love never dies and that love is stronger than death. I once read that just because someone you love dies does not mean that your relationship with that person is over.

I was just thinking about how much I would like to see Kiki help take down Fab. She does have knowledge of him. Also, I wonder if she and Dulce will meet face to face. Isn't it interesting that Dulce and Jorge were not a good match, but Kiki and Jorge are crazy for each other. (Her singing voice still drives. Me. Crazy...like nails scratching on a chalkboard (,ha..another blast from the past ...chalkboards!!!,Today's classrooms have whiteboards or even smartboards!)

Wait ! What? Kika singing? When did that happen? Did I miss it or just not recognize it?

If she could get a voice coach and talk like somebody from EARTH, she would be irresistible.

Or did you write sing song and Diablo changed it to singing?

:-)

Kirby...you guessed it...I typed singsong but Diablo did not approve. It's like having a bossy spouse. It also just changed bossy to shoddy. Ahhhhhhhhhhh

Susanlynn - beautiful story of your "sign from beyond" on your birthday. I believe that stuff is real. I've got my own story.

Has anyone else on The Patio read that book "Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus"? I finally had a handbook for living with my hubby. LOL

"Also Amazon is now contracting with local delivery people driving their own vehicles to effect the next day or two day deliveries"
Same here. Started may be six months ago. They also have some of their own "Amazon" utility vans for deliveries, too.

Speaking of the devil, I saw on the news that Prime membership will be going up by $20 this year. Grrrrrrr.....

Is the pelican walking on water???? I think this might edge out your pink birds for the top spot.

Wow.

Andy, I thought surely Dulce would return, she's fairly high up on the list of credits. Not that it might matter...I think she is the worst parent here. And that is saying quite a bit. How could you leave your children knowing they are hurting, are aching for you?? She needs a one way ticket to Hades as far as I'm concerned.
Be gone...

Diana (miserably still at work) Sigh...

Diana: Dulce is not only a bad parent, but a bad Mommy!

Concerning Dulce, might we speculate that perhaps her hot romance with the gangster client has gone awry and he is preventing her from communicating with her family? Since they seem to be ramping up the DRAMA in this one, that's always a possibility.

JudyB who clearly has already watched TOO MANY telenovelas

Doris, I read that twenty years ago, when it first came out.

Thank you Alfredo, for your recap that is so detailed. I am out of town right now, so I don't have a lot of time to do much commenting.

The scene with Flor and her shaved head and Neron's tears broke my heart.

Some of you are asking about Dulce. I suspect she will return, like a bad case of indigestion. Seriously! Didn't she run off with someone from the drug world? Me has a feeling she will get into some kind of trouble and ask good ol' Jorge to get her out of a jam. Then she will try to make up with her children who won't warm up to her after all she has put them through. I agree, she is a very, very, bad mother. I think Kika would be better at mothering than Dulce has been.

This novela is depressing sometimes. We have dead mothers (Catalina and Yuri) a mother (Dulce) who runs off with another man, and Flor getting sick with leukemia. Another mother (Vero) making poor decisions for a divorce which hurts the children, and another (Maria) mother who got thrown in prison in a foreign country. Of course Mau's mom and Fab's mom have been gone a very long time.

What kind of misogynist wrote this tale? All the really bad stuff happens to the women!

I don't think it was Mars Venus, but another book came out about the same time written by a woman psychologist in the same vein. And she famously said that when a man begins to do everything he is told (by a woman) without complaint she will lose all respect for him. And she was accused of blasphemy back in the day by the feminists.

My observations of friends and coworkers over decades have shown her to be fairly accurate.

Engineers are particularly vulnerable to that, right McFly?

Cynthia, there must be a reason the writers made Dulce's novio a criminal. Perhaps she will be pulled in to his nefarious dealings. As you said, she might come crawling back to Jorge for help. Hope that you are feeling much better.

Thanks Susanlynn. Yeah I think that Dulce's "lover" could turn on her and she may have to run for her life. Maybe she will realize how good she really did have it with Jorge and want to crawling back. But I sure hope that Jorge isn't that dumb to take her back if she tries to pull this. She needs to do a lot of repenting and groveling first. And she will have to accept that Baldo and Lili are part of their lives too. However, I have more fun thinking that Kika will get her man instead and Dulce will have to find other digs. When Dulce left the children, she lost her "mother" card. I don't care how unhappy she was with a boring life with Jorge. She should have put her kids first and foremost before her own selfish wants for excitement.

What kind of misogynist wrote this tale? All the really bad stuff happens to the women!

But Cynthia, this is a wonderful fairy tale about strong take charge women and ineffectual worthless men.

One girls trash is another's treasure. She might have a helluva fight on her hands with La Kickmeistera.
Beyond all logic, she is cray cray about Georgy Boy. And she incidentally, has quite an investment in him now.

There is no way Kika will tell Chary, Mom and Pop that 'Oh, his wife took him back, so I'm single againnnnnna.'

Yes, Diana, MY birds walk on water. :-)

It is fun watching pelicans take off and land. It reminds you of Dumbo the flying elephant. They are big ole clumsy looking birds until they get their wings fully out and aloft nicely.

Yes, it is always interesting to try to figure out what attracts people to each other. We have friends who are both lovely people, but they divorced after only a year or two togetber. Then, they both remarried , and both of those marriages have lasted for years. It is often harder to see what brings people together than what tears people apart.
