Papa a Toda Madre, Capítulo 72, Friday April 27, 2018; The Sins of the Fathers….create generational messes….
Labels: papa
Loved your title: I'm a sucker for anything from the Bible (King James version) or Shakespeare. Grew up hearing plenty from both and it's firmly embedded in my brain.
And ultimately, one could say this entire story is based on "the sins of the fathers", whether absent in person, or absent emotionally.
Thanks again sweet lady. Hope you can sleep deeply and rest wonderfully. I always had so much adrenaline going after writing a recap that I tossed and turned all night.
Agree with Judy that your title was perfect. Carefully crafted with your thoughtful care. I so enjoy your conversation translations and witty "asides".
“Do tell me,” says Char. “What is going on in that crazy blonde head of yours” made me smile. Yup, that feverish little brain is working overtime these days and I’m enjoying every single second.
Of course Jorge should not have taken the money and I’m hoping the loan (which I’m sure Kika engineered) will put a little salve on the children’s hurt. His apology did come from the heart and I thought Lili was actually going to open the door during his confession but of course didn’t because of Baldo.
So after a few mere conversations with Renee, has Noel given up his evil plan to destroy the company and Mau in the process by simply handling things over to his obviously despised son? “The problem is that there is no family to come home to, no children or anything”. Huh? Your son IS with you so are you asking for grandchildren to poison? I’m afraid a full scale war for custody of Anifer is coming. Maria’s prison record and “agitator” status do not give her the edge.
And telling Renee that her beloved mother “…was merely an accident that happened one night” was despicable. Telling Fabian who loves him (God knows why) “You are just another bad copy of myself” was beyond contempt.
“Maria is not for this princess thing as she believes princesses are classists, passive, and basically useless”. Frankly, I don’t know of too many real life princesses, but I thought Princess Diana was none of those things and in fact, was someone who could not have been kinder, braver and more loving. A hero with a crown.
“Baldo makes some disparaging remarks to Lili about brining Pablo in the house, saying his presence will stink and if he comes in, Baldo is going to go far away”. Promises, promises.
I liked that Tono covered for Vero. Talk about toxic work environments. I was hoping they would stand in unison and quit together. After all, Vero seems to be able to get jobs as often as she changes outfits.
Maria is a go getter. I sort of just want her to go away…
I hope you continue to feel better Cynthia. Best wishes for continued healing. I am very grateful for your sharp eye and sense of humor.
Diana
Big Boss should have just fired both V / T on the spot and hired some people who might show up to actually contribute to the endeavors of the organization.
No one could have made a stronger case for the no nepotism rule than V / T.
They also make a good argument for getting a divorce when you are insanely incompatible.
Or when a relationship is light years and decades beyond repair. Don't keep picking at a scab.
Leave and let it heal and fall off in time.
Do TN characters get free international airfare and guaranteed passports/visas? Does a broke college student fly to another country to have a coffee with a stranger he just met?
There is no shortage of women on campus. They substantially outnumber men on campus today. Why did this loser come to Mexico? STALKER...Why did Renee let him in the front door? Why doesn't she have a gun to go with her lack of sense? :-)
If my beanie spins much faster I am going to wind up with a Moe Howard bowl-cut hairdon't.
Maria finally smiled last night, and she is pretty doing it.
I, too, was surprised Renee let Ariel in so easily, and was so friendly with him. She seemed really angry, the last time they saw each other.
The Ariel/Renee/Mau/coffee scene reminded me of those old Taster's Choice(?) commercials on TV many years ago, for some reason.
I'm really, really curious to see what cheverisimo scheme Kika is cooking up to undo not-so-Fab.
Diana - yes, excellent points about Princesses and Diana. Women like Maria become tiresome (to me) very quickly. "Agitator" is a perfect word. I knew one like her in real life; she inflicted her views and argumentative nature on our Sunday School class regularly. There was never "conversation", only debate if it could be called that. Oddly, her hubby was a really nice guy who was the opposite of her. Thank goodness she(they) moved away.
Somehow, Maria's character likely will be serving some purpose. I hope.
" If my beanie spins much faster I am going to wind up with a Moe Howard bowl-cut hairdon't."
LOL! This is why they come with chinstraps. Actually, two straps just like Tilley hats. ;-) Even then, they sometimes fly right off our heads over these telenovela twists.
Wow, Toño took one for the team by saving Vero. If Toño was truly mean-spirited, he would have stayed quiet.
Jorge's sincere humility is a step in the right direction toward redeeming this character. He KNEW he had done wrong and did not even try to justify it. And, he could have by virtue that by the investment, he is trying to keep a roof over their heads. I was touched by Lili moving toward the door, as if her heart was softening. I think women are more forgiving, or quicker to forgive, due to our basic nurturing nature. Or maybe it was just her preggo hormones.
Every time Maria opens her mouth, I dislike her more. Diana, you are so right about Princess Diana and other warrior princesses. And I agree with Doris, your term "agitator" is perfect. Kirby, she did smile last night, but Mau surely wasn't. She is made out to be a smart woman yet she accepts Mau's proposal to start a relationship the day following his break-up with Renee...hoping that it is really because he likes her. How stupid is that?!
Though I think Ariel is a better match for Renee (appearance-wise, since they are both cute), I agree that Renee was too quick to open that door and invite a stranger in...and who in their right mind gives someone they just met their address???
Doris, the threesome having coffee reminded you of the Taster's choice commercial? Well, that thing Mau was wearing reminded me of Christmas carolers...all he needed was a top hat and the song book.
Kirby, "If my beanie spins much faster I am going to wind up with a Moe Howard bowl-cut hair don't." I think that would be true for many of us!
"She is made out to be a smart woman yet she accepts Mau's proposal to start a relationship the day following his break-up with Renee...hoping that it is really because he likes her. How stupid is that?!" Well said RgvChick!
Kirby, I laughed out loud at the Moe bowl haircut line. I was still smiling enjoying your avatar.
Sun is out as are the early birds on the patio.
Looking forward to seeing everyone else soon.
Diana
Maui's scarf was an interesting fabric because the light shined thru it, at certain camera angles, as if it was made of handkerchief linen or batiste. Must be the warm weather version. And ITA about the Christmas carolers!
Yard work is done . . . Now to do housework. Blech 😛😛😛
It made me think of Kramer on Seinfeld if he had been in some bizarre incident in the shower curtain aisle in WalMart.
Thank you, Cynthia, for fitting this excellent recap into your busy schedule. I hope that you are recovering and feeling much better.
These days, I am always on the lookout for something positive to focus on, good folks to talk to, and perhaps a smile or giggle in my day. That is why caray is always a part of my day. So..thanks to all the kind, funny, smart people here who always lift my spirits despite the news.
Sunny and 70 here. I am hanging laundry out on the backyard line for the first time since the fall.
I agree with all the comments about Maria . Strong women don't have to bash people over the head. There are lots of strong women right here on the patio who are kind, caring ,and loving and who have a sense of humor . Brash does not equate to strong.
Does Kiki only own those tight sheath dresses and stilettos ? They look uncomfy. No flipflops and capris? Sneakers? Shorts?
I hate wishy washy Maury and his weird pretentious scarves right now . So in lurrvve with Renee....until Mama Maria shows up . Real love ?
ITA about with everyone about María. She just grates on my nerves. Maybe Mauricio will tire of her incessant "just being direct" before long. He needs to iImagine living 24/7 with that.
Yes, I do give Toño points for taking the blame for Verónica. He finally did something selfless for her. Those two will end up back together.
Mauricio with the rag on his head was definitely not a good look.
Jorge was totally wrong touching the inheritance money. It looks like Kika is turning into his guardian angel of sorts.
The sweatband and pink duster and tomatoes apron WAS a little much. I suspect the boy does not have sweat glands. If so he is saving them for when he really needs them.
It must be a strange and wonderful Luuuurve if Jorge hasn't discovered that.
Kirby, I definitely need a Kika decoder :-)
She is turning into a sweetheart though.
There is no shortage of interesting characters in this TN. Baldo is one. He's quite obnoxious, but he manned up a bit with Nerón and apologized for his earlier behavior. He is also the only character in the TN who is allowed to sweat. At least twice I have seen underarm wetness in his T-shirts. That doesn't "just happen" in TNs.
Maria keeps showing those bare shoulders trying to get Mau all excited. He has been holding back, and has tried a couple of times to straighten things out with Renée. Maria has decided to up her game and get physical with him. Mau better watch out because Maria is very "liberal" and has been known to become a wild and crazy girl at least once every seven years.
Anifer wants to be a princess? OK, we're on schedule, but I don't remember which order the colors come in. Is it purple and gray first, or pink?
Yay, for Toño! Yeah, I think they can get together again.
:-)
andy
Yeah, again with the fold shoulders. I notice that Maria is the only woman embracing this trend.
Chickie, the rain started here about 4.30.
Nooo. It looks just like a set of Hot Rollers. But turn it upside down and there is an on/off switch on the bottom.
Hmmmmm OR maybe simply fertile every seven years.
There is some Biblical recommendation to farmers about every seven years and the word 'fallow'.
But I can't seem to connect the two.
:-)
Seven years has lots of important meanings in the Bible and in folklore. Seventh son of the seventh son was always my favorite. But I have no use for Maria. She just comes off a more strident than "direct".
ice queen melts every seven years???
Might be "the seven year itch."
seven years and the word 'fallow'.
I'd say Mauricio needs to move that bolt of upholstery fabric he has begun to wear a little lower.
Of course if 'The Itch' could announce that she and Mau are expecting Anifer's sibling, that would get Flaky Renee out of our hair for good. By the time she gets her "Master Robot" certificate and sorts out her family, she will be too old to have children.
Happy Sunday
Oh-noes, Jorge used the kids' trust money. He's determined to learn every lesson about parenthood the hard way. Can't stand Baldo, but I wouldn't blame him for pressing charges against his pop.
Poor Renee's mom. The love of her life thought of her as one night's mistake. I kind of feel sorry for Fab. He got his crazy as a little tyke from his pop who never let up on him.
Where's the comedy? Right here from the Caraymates on the patio. Your cracks on Mau's head rag are too funny. And, yeah, Renee making her stalker feel right at home is nutso.
Jorge using the inheritance money was wrong, but I can understand why he did it...and as always, his heart was in the right place thinking of his business partners and even of his children. I think he is hoping that Anitoys flourishes and he can return the money with much interest.
I still can't believe that Renee is taking all this information about her father so calmly. She vehemently searched for her father and when she finds him it's like, "Oh, okay." He tells her she was a mistake from a one nighter and it's another, "Oh, okay." Does anything rattle this girl??
Patches is just adorable RgvChick. I imagine being surrounded by dogs (among your other "kids") is a recipe for pure happiness. Thank you for sharing.
Niecie and Jarifa, what was the last TN that was truly a comedy? Amores con Trampa? I can't honestly recall.
Diana
Renee knows she is in a telenovela and wears her telenovela beanie hat with both chin straps in place.. 😉
ITA that the Renée and Noel bit is odd. He is now stringing her along with a partial story every day and having her come back the next day for the rest. I hope he doesn't try to stretch it out for 1001 nights. OK, she did finally complain about always having to come back to get the rest of the story, but she also left behind a picture that tells Fabián that she had been there again. Sheesh!
Jarifa, yeah, they have pulled the old "bait and switch" on us. I started watching this TN expecting a somewhat silly, overly sweet story, but I was OK with that because I'm just not mature enough to handle adult fare such as D.F. Law or CET.
Now I occasionally wish they would give us more of the overly sweet stuff.
:-)
andy
When Maria showed up very, very undead the average luuuurve sick TN Honey would have accepted that her personal WWIII had begun and went with "A good defense is a good offense." :
Mark your territory.
Don't turn your back (do not pass Go, collect $200 or go to MerryLand
Out Mother the enemy with Anifer and out sex her with Mau.
Get new clothes that do not look like Lady PacMan.
Instead she is blindly following the dotted magnetic line in the floor.
Arrrrghhhh.
As I understand it, the Tilley hats which inspired our beanies are capable of being ingested (eaten alive) and later recovered, washed, (deodorized) and put back into service again as headgear.
I wanted to try it with my beanie, but I couldn't find the sodium content. :-)
Judy...strident is a good word to describe Maria...throw in joyless and cranky.
I think that Renee is already pregnant which will block Maria's advances.
Speaking fashion faux pas, what is up with that collared black motorcycle jacket that Noel wears?
Chickie..Patches is a cutie. I like small dogs but would live in fear of Hub stepping on it. I have enough trouble avoiding getting stepped on myself.
Regarding jackets and such that people wear, I think it is supposed to be a chilly time of the year in D.F. and I would expect older people to wear sweaters or jackets, fashion aside. It must be good sleeping weather though, and I see they often have comforters on the bed. Do homes in D.F. have heating?
andy
Andy, I find both Renee and Maria equally gorgeous. Maria has the height advantage, but Renee has a lovely (big) nose. I'm actually okay with Maria. She arrived and saw a wavering relationship and took advantage. It's Mau's wishy-washy that makes me mad. He let Maria know that his door was open. Committed guys don't do that.
Also read about a woman considering divorce after 45 years of marriage sometimes reality is stranger than fiction!!!
I think some just realize they were unhappy they saw no point in continuing. This often happens when the sense of mortality edges closer.
I also think some just want more out of life.
And then, there's the cheating.
One of my closest friends was separated from her husband of 30 plus years. He was to have picked her up for "a date" but never showed. She called the police the next day and found out he was in the hospital having suffered a heart attack. When she got to the hospital, the desk asked who she was. After telling them she was his wife, they looked shocked. When she got into his room, the woman with whom he'd been having an affair with the past 17 years stood up and introduced herself. The medical staff assumed she was his wife. And not to make light of it, he actually told my friend for a minute, he wished he had died. I never asked her if she felt the same but I'm thinking yes. True story.
So in some cases, yes I agree Kirby that "Sheezo, can't she just hang on a few more and let him die?" Others, not so much :)
Diana
And yes, the sad stories of marriages gone bad are legion. But some studies show that if you stay with a bad marriage, it can get better. This is only if it doesn't include the three A's of Alcoholism, Abuse and Adultery. In those cases it is probably better to get out. If it's safe to do so.
Diana, that is a really sad story and could be a storyline in a telenovela.
Judy..yes those three "A"s are hard to deal with. What I can never understand is when someone who has committed all three of those and then turns around and blames the spouse for their problems.
Oh,on the way home from our daughter's house after getting the grandgirls ready for school and on the bus, we stopped at the farm and saw that a massive, old pine tree had fallen on the roof. Always something, right?
Nowadays it's the four A's ---- we have to add Addiction with the current opioid crisis.
