Papá a toda madre Wednesday 5/30/18 Capítulo #94: "You Knew I Was a Snake When You Picked Me Up"--OR--"No Matter How Much a Snake Sheds Its Skin, It is Still a Snake"

Dear Patio Members, This most excellent recap is courtesy of Alfredo. The commentary in parentheses is all my own. Jarifa

Anifer's teacher calls Maria to let her know that Fabian wants to see Anifer. Maria is shocked. (Did she expect him to play by the rules????)

As Flor and Socorro get dinner ready, Socorro apologizes for ruining her peace and quiet and her beautiful house. Flor agrees and begins to call them all pigs as Ciceron arrives and asks Socorro for a coffee. She goes to make it but Flor wonders if he doesn't have hands to do it himself. Ciceron smiles and reminds her that he has someone to do it for himself, so he doesn't. Ciceron then notices that Carmelita's picture is missing and demands to know where it is. Flor tells him that she put it away and put a family picture (Neron, Milady and Flor) instead because it is now her house and not Ciceron's or Carmelita's. They begin to argue again about who own the house when Ciceron reminds Flor that Neron and her aren't married so, therefore, she has no rights to the house. He storms off as Socorro comes back with the coffee and wonders where he went or if he's mad. Flor is fuming. (Flor is into her perpetual grammar corrections: preterite tense second person singular does not have an "s" on the end which is something that Nerón, Socorro and Cicerón always want to add).

Neron goes to the bank who owns Ciceron's mortgage to see if he's on time with his payments. The bank representative tells him that she can't give out any info, but he begs he for help. The representative looks and sees that he pays late sometimes, but always comes current and has no outstanding late balances. Neron is floored. (Good for Nerón who is doing some investigating into Cicerón's personal business)

Renee welcomes Ariel and the PI into her house so they can talk about the investigation into Noel's disappearance. Ariel asks her to get the letter Noel left her and Renee nods before revealing that all the information on Noel's disappearance came from Fabian and it's not the first time he's lied to her. (Renée has an important realization about where her information comes from)

At school, Anifer sits with Fabian as the teacher keeps a close eye on him. Anifer wonders why can't stay alone and Fabian explains that o one trusts him because of what he did in the past. Anifer can't understand why as he can barely move, but Fabian tells her that it's okay. He then wonders why she looks so serious and Anifer explains that her parents are no longer together, so Fabian assumes they are fighting. Anifer shakes her head and then reveals that she saw Mauricio and Renee kissing, like before, and Fabian nods. He tells her that he didn't know and Anifer worries that, if Mauricio and Maria aren't together, she will have to go back to San Crispin. (If Fabián still cannot walk and since he is a snake, he could have come crawling on his belly and not in the wheel chair.)

At Logatoys, Mauricio congratulates everyone on their group effort and then leads everyone in a cheer. Tono is happy to see that their company is finally taking off, as it was more of a hobby than anything, and Jorge admits that he has been looking at new offices. Gladys thinks they should just take the Logatoys sign off, and put Anitoys, but Mauricio doesn't think it's a good idea. Jorge thinks they should ask Fabian either way, as they are finally friends again, but Mauricio is happy to just put all his father's lessons into practice. He then thanks everyone for their help and claps. Gladys wants to know where she signs because she wants to leave with them right now. Mauricio is surprised.
(Why would they ask Fabián? They still have not learned their lesson)

Fabian tells Anifer that maybe Mauricio doesn't care about her as much as she thought because if he did, he would do anything to make her and Maria happy. Anifer nods and Fabian wonders if maybe the fact that Mauricio is not her biological dad makes him love her less. After all, she is blood of his blood and Mauricio only began loving her a few months ago. He reminds her of how horrible Mauricio treated her in the beginning and when they tried to leave her at the police station. Anifer nods but Fabian reiterates the he might love her, because she's a great girl, but not as a daughter, more of like a toy. Anifer considers this. (The snake is at his best seeding poisonous thoughts)

Neron and Pablo visit Ciceron's restaurant and find it closed until further notice. They run into a previous client and ask for details. The client explains that the restaurant survived on selling alcohol illegally and they finally got caught. Neron considers this and the client then leaves as Neron explodes and curses everything as Ciceron lied to him. (Seems like we have another duplicitous snake in training slithering around.)

At school Maria talks with Anifer's teacher, who confirms that Anifer was good throughout the whole meeting with Fabian and confesses that Fabian seemed sorry for all the pain he caused, especially after his accident. Maria considrs this, and thanks her for her help, but she doesn't seem convinced. The teacher offers to prohibit Fabian from seeing Anifer, but Maria thinks that's unnecessary. (How many times will María have to be bitten before she sees that a snake is a snake is a snake?)

Renee and Ariel bid the PI goodbye and then Renee thanks Ariel for his help as she thought Noel had left the city. She will have to clear up some things with Fabian, but Ariel reminds her to pretend to be unaware of his lies because she may get more out of him that way. Renee agrees, and they go to see Fabian to see what they can find out. (At least Ariel has a brain on how to deal with Fabián)

At Neron's, Flor reads different philosophical phrases and Socorro wonders why she started going to school. Flor explains that she had cancer and is now in remission, so she thought she would appreciate her time on Earth. Socorro then offers to take care of Milady while she goes to school but Flor is okay with Neron taking care of their child. Socorro thinks that taking care of children is for women, but Flor reminds her that men and women are equal, and they should divide the work between them and Ciceron should take care of his kids. Socorro laughs off her comments because Neron and Carmelita are responsible for making Ciceron the useless lout he is. Flor tells her that it's not true and both begin to argue. (I hope Flor gets a wedding ring and Cicerón and his ill bred brood are out of her home before the end of this.)

Maria goes to visit Fabian and demands to know why he went to go to find Anifer when he said he wouldn't. Fabian apologizes but explains that he wanted to apologize to Anifer's teacher. Maria still doesn't know why he saw Anifer, when he already saw the teacher, but Fabian is more surprised that Maria still doesn't trust him. Maria thinks he's asking a lot, when he only kidnapped her, at gun point, a few days ago but Fabian reminds her that it was a toy gun and he almost died. Maria sighs and Fabian reiterates that his view of life has changed. Either way, Maria doesn't want Anifer to see him so often, but they can't talk anymore because Renee has arrived. (Is María still being seduced by the serpent's gift of gab? Come on already!)

Tono goes to pick up his kids at school and asks Ernesto to be close to him or he will tie him up. A teacher comes up to Tono and explains that they are doing a new project, every week a parent will visit the classroom and prepare a presentation, detailing how much they love their job. Tono is unsure of how to answer but the teacher pressures him into accepting by asking if his kids are more important than his job. Tono doesn't answer and runs away with his kids as the teacher looks on. (Whoopsie!! for weasly Toño being "a toda madre" "awesome")

In the kitchen, Flor asks Socorro if she knows who ate all her sweet bread, but Socorro shakes her head but notices Flor looking at her and tells her that the kids had nothing to do with it. Ciceron then comes screaming, because Socorro has not gone to pick up the kids, and she goes running. Flor can't believe he was so rude to his wife but Ciceron doesn't care as she does as he wants. Neron comes in then, slams the door, and puts a beating on Ciceron as Flor grabs her sandal and also goes to hit him. (I always laugh when the chancla (sandal/flip flop comes off! The power of the chancla!")

Fabian tells Maria that she regrets her decision to keep him from Anifer but understands. Maria nods and then leaves as Renee sits down to talk to him. She wonders if there is a problem as Maria was visiting him, alone, but Fabian shakes his head, lamenting the fact that no one trusts him. Renee thinks it will take time, but Fabian thinks she is the only one who trusts him. Either way, he accepts his faults and Renee proposes that they find Noel because he needs all the moral support he can get. (That is not what that snake Fabian wanted to hear)

Neron can't believe Ciceron paid his mortgage but then sold liquor illegally and risked everything for extra money. Cicero explains that he rented out his house , so he could get some extra money to pay for everything and moved in with him because Neron's house belongs to all of them (Cieron and Socrates) because ti belonged to Carmelita. Neron grabs his face and reminds him that Carmelita is dead, so his house if now Flor's. Ciceron understands but Neron can't believe he did something illegal when he always taught his sons to be fair and just. Ciceron reminds him that they barely saw him but Neron reminds him that, the little he taught them, he always said to never steal or lie or cheat. Either way, he better clean up his room and think about how much longer he's goin to stay in HIS house. Ciceron obliges as Flor cheers Neron on and hugs him tight. She then gives him a big kiss and confesses that she's proud of him and the fact that he is still teaching his children to be better people. (I loved Flor cheering Nerón on! Awwww!)

Fabian thought Renee was going to let Noel return on his own, but she can't understand how or why Noel left after living as a hermit for so many years. Fabian nods, understanding that Renee doesn't trust him either and think she did something to him, but Renee shakes her head. Fabian reminds her that Noel treated him poorly growing up and said so in his letter, but he doesn't resent him for his actions nor does he know where he is. Renee reveals that a woman called her and said he left but wonders if Noel had any friends he could he could visit. Fabian tells her that Bosco and Catalina were his father's only "friends" and he doesn't care about any of them, including them, because he hasn't reached out. Ironically, Fabian notes, the only good thing his father did was bring them together, because they are family, after all, Renee considers this. (The snake is so good at "preemptive guilt")

Sometime later, at her home, Renee confesses to Ariel that she doesn't know what the truth is because Fabian seems to have changed but, in the past, he behaved very poorly. Either way, she can't believe finding her father has caused more harm than good. Ariel tells her to be patient as she will find him, and grabs her hand. Renee thanks him for his help and his generosity and then confesses the sad truth: she has something to tell him about Mauricio. Ariel already knows what's coming a mile away. (Ariel is one smart guy)

At home, Fabian calls the nurse who is taking care of Noel. She confirms that no one has visited Noel and she did as he instructed and called Renee with fake information. Fabian reminds her that no one can find him and then asks abut Noel's health. The nurse confirms he's doing well and Fabian thinks it's time to surprise his father. (I hope that Noel finds some way to escape first. For some reason I do not think the surprise would be a good one)

Socorro arrives at Neron's and tells their kids to be quiet and wait for Ciceron, who arrives a minute later and asks her why she took so long. Socorro confesses that their kids got punished because they got caught selling fruit and sweet bread illegally, and they they offered the principal money, so they won't punish them. Ciceron demands to know where they got those habits from and they confess they they saw him selling beers illegally, so they find nothing wrong with their actions. Ciceron is shocked and Neron looks at his son and hits him in the forehead. He chides Ciceron for his poor example as Socorro looks on, tears in her eyes. (That was the best hit to the forehead I have seen in a long time)

Renee tells Ariel about her kiss with Mauricio and Ariel confesses that he always knew her feelings but he thought he had an opportunity with her. He hopes he didn't pressure her into anything, but Renee shakes her head and tells him that he's been great, but she can't decide what her heart feels. Ariel shakes his head and hopes to see her at their master's program, which Renee likes, but thinks they shouldn't see each other for the time being. Ariel smiles and hopes to be her friend, at least, before wishing her the best of luck on he search with noel, before leaving. Renee stops him and gives him a big hug before he finally goes, Once alone, Renee wonders if she made the right decision. (Ariel has been a class act and deserves somebody less flakey than Renée. Guess his consolation prize was being called a great guy.)

That night, Lili and Pablo talk in the cul-de-sac park and talk about their future. She tells him that they will be together with their child, forever and Pablo smiles before nodding. Lili confesses that, a few months ago, she arrived in Mexico City, and now she's about to be 18, move out and be a mother. Pablo promises to always be with her and their children and gives her a kiss. (Ay, the innocence and high hopes of youth!)

At Mauricio's, Maria tells Mauricio that, while she thought she could trust Fabian, she gets this weird feeling in the pit of her stomach. Mauricio thinks it must be for a reason and they agree that he can see Anifer but only when one of them is present. Anifer arrives then and asks Anifer for a hug but she barely hugs him back. He then shows her the first line of his new toy but Anifer doesn't care because she wants to know why he and Maria don't kiss but Mauricio and Renee do. Mauricio stumbles for and explanation but Maria explains that, a long time ago, she and Mauricio decided that they should be friends. Mauricio nods but Anifer is doubtful. (What is wrong with Anifer? Anifer has been the victim of "TM" of the wrong kind of "I")

In bed, Dulce looks at family destinations for them to go on a family vacation and Jorge agrees. Dulce thinks the vacation should also double as a birthday celebration for Baldo and Lili. Jorge thanks her but thinks she shouldn't though Dulce wants to win them over. She then lays her head down on his chest, caresses it, and tells him he is the love of her life. (Dulce another "snake in the grass" should be hissing as she slithers all over Jorge. She is creepy)

Maria tells Anifer that Mauricio can go out with Renee without lying but Anifer looks mad because Mauricio changed Maria for Renee and then may change Renee for someone else. Mauricio wants to know if anyone said something bad about him but Anifer is silent before telling them that she's scared Mauricio may stop loving her like he's stopped loving his girlfriends. Maria and Mauricio assure her that Mauricio will always love Anifer and she will always love him but, they also know she didn't come up with those ideas on her own, so they want to know where it came from. Anifer looks at him and Mauricio wonders if it was Fabian who told her this. Anifer hangs her head and Maria and Mauricio realize the truth, Fabian should NEVER be trusted. . .

(Duh! Why are María and Mauricio still looking surprised??? They need to review the universal "Snake Fable": A human saves a snake from a sure death. The snake in turn delivers a mortal bite. While dying the human asks "Why did you bite me after I saved you?" The snake hisses "You knew I was a snake when you picked me up!!!")

Jarifa: The title of the recap is spot on 100%!

Thanks, Steve.

Jarifa and AAA, very nice. A lot happened and I couldn't follow it all on TV. Thanks. I especially likes the editorial content in parenthesis. How true.

IE: I thought as the show went along that it was the tire shop that was shuttered, as Pablo was there, otherwise what was he doing on the other side of town.?

Maaaan, everyone was right about the serpent.

Yeah, Ariel is a class act. But, honestly, has he never been around campus, he can do a helluva lot better? Renee will find the competition brutal in college, campuses are swarming with hot hot hot girls, they outnumber men substantially too. Ariel is a nice looking fellow and a decent chap. Those little Tri Deltas and Phi Mu's will be fighting over him.

Kirby, it was a pretty good episode. Flor made me laugh especially when she grabbed her flip flop to go help beat Cicerón with. I always have to laugh as she goes and grabs her chancla to hit someone with in the intro we see every day.

Alfredo and Jarifa, thanks much! You two make a great team!

I love Flor! It doesn't matter what clothing, or wig, or chanclas, she is wearing, or what she is saying (because I can't understand half of it anyway), she is always terrific.

I'm tired of saying this, but Jorge is an idiot.

Ariel may be an OK guy, but I'm happy to see him go. We have less than two weeks left and I'm hoping against all hope that they can redeem this TN. The fewer the loose ends, the better.

andy

Jarifa, glad that Alfredo could help out but I did enjoy your commentary. Great job both of you!

It was good to see Neron develop some backbone with his son. Finally!

I was grossed out with Dulce being in bed with Jorge and had this "eeeewwww" moment the whole time. I kept thinking she was giving Jorge sloppy seconds from her being with Isauro. Vacation? If I were Jorge, I would tell her I had too much work to do.

Yes indeed...Alfredo and Jarifa make a great duo, salt and pepper, oil and vinegar, scotch and Drambuie...however you slice it, the combination is great. As Alfredo calmly recounted the nefarious deeds of Fabian and Ciceron, there was Jarifa, churning and foaming at the mouth. I love it!

Also second Andy's comment...yeah, Ariel is a cool guy and all that, but let's sweep him out of the way and get to the end of this pronto. Ditto for Ciceron and his noisy brood. We have more than enough PSA's about sharing domestic duties without this additional one.

Thank you both Jarifa and Alfredo. Great team. Ever play doubles tennis? You'd probably be terrific. Alfredo could lull the opponents to sleep with some gentle lobs and then Jarifa could rush the net and slam down a killer! Thanks both of you.

Cynthia, I wondered out loud on here a while back if Jorge should send D'ulcer to the vet and get her checked out for parasites and "Other" things before even letting her mooooove back in so not to get anything else with those sloppy seconds.

I just realized what I said, as the 'vet' would be Raf. Ha.

Flor: I assume she has lived most of her life wearing 'stripper stacks', with about ten inch heels and a 4 inch platform under the ball of her foot, so those things are real weapons.

Alfredo and Jarifa, this was superb. Truly. One of the all time great TN recapping pairings. You complimented each other perfectly.

"Anifer nods but Fabian reiterates the he might love her, because she's a great girl, but not as a daughter, more of like a toy. Anifer considers this. (The snake is at his best seeding poisonous thoughts)" made evil crystal clear.

"duplicitous snake in training slithering around" and "Whoopsie!! for weasly Toño being "a toda madre" "awesome")" were only a few favorites. Jarifa, thank you for " chancla (sandal/flip flop". I always enjoy learning vocabulary.

"If Fabián still cannot walk and since he is a snake, he could have come crawling on his belly and not in the wheel chair". Amazing.

The scene with Neron, Flor and Ciceron was so painful, I can't even comment. Ciceron is an evil and conniving horror. Evil was on full display last night wasn't it?

Kirby, I also thought it was Neron's shop that was closed. I wasn't able to follow a lot of this and am especially grateful for the recap today.

I also love Flor. Andy your "It doesn't matter what clothing, or wig, or chanclas, she is wearing, or what she is saying (because I can't understand half of it anyway), she is always terrific" said it better than I ever could have.

Cynthia, Dulce is another terrible soul. "sloppy seconds" indeed! :)

I'm not convinced this is the last we will see of Ariel.

I am glad Maria and Mau were able to find out that Fabian had been poisoning Anifer's mind. Who would do that to a child? To their own child??

Thank you dynamic duo. Your recap and comment was sensational and greatly appreciated!

Diana

"Who would do that to a child? To their own child??"

Exlena on the lawyer show.

:-)

"Alfredo could lull the opponents to sleep with some gentle lobs and then Jarifa could rush the net and slam down a killer!" Outstanding Judy. I am still smiling.

Diana

Beginnings of a nest ON a cellular tower.

Wow Kirby. The nest is almost eclipsed by the beauty of that saturated blue sky.

Diana

Cynthia, I totally agree that Dulce is disgusting.

JudyB, it was great fun having the time just to comment.

Andy, Jorge really hasn't changed much at all or so it seems. Yes he still is an idiot.

Diana, have we seen the actor playing Ariel before or is he just another new pretty face? There seems to be so many new actors lately as the old guard seems to be slipping away. Also, I do not watch that many novelas so I miss a lot.

Kirby, thank you for the information on eagles nesting in cell towers. Very interesting.

Thank you both for the recap, Alfredo and Jarifa! Great recap, AAA, and great snarky comments and snake fable, Jarifa!)

" The power of the chancla" had me truly laughing out loud! I guess Mexican women never wear lace-up shoes? (LOL) Too many funny videos on youtube that cover the topic very well. ;-)
I cannot wait to watch this episode during lunch hour. Flor rocks!

Ariel reminds me of the good-guy friend (from university?) that was in La Sombra del Pasado. There for decoration, potential/fringe love interest, plot propeller, and not much else. That guy came from a wealthy family, too, IIRC. They serve their purpose.

Jarifa, I don't believe I've seen Ariel before.

I agree that there are many new faces. That said, I miss the "old" ones! Will we ever see Colunga, Yanez and others again??

Even the marvelous Angelique Boyer seems to have been banished by the new regime.

doris, "here for decoration, potential/fringe love interest, plot propeller, and not much else". Great line!

Diana

Yeah that sky sure came out blue. I didn't doll it up or anything. Here is a shot of the builder, and you can see his head is pure white, and the cell antennas are the right color.

doris, yes, I, too, have enjoyed the YouTube offerings on “the power of the chancla.” Somehow you never see it coming . . . Flor is always the best.

Diana, I have only been watching novelas for barely six years and the changes in leading men is tremendous. You can add Jorge Salinas to that list, too . At least I can get my Jaime Camil fix on Jane the Virgin.

Eagles will typically choose the tallest tree for their nest, and here in Florida, where trees know not to grow too tall, with hurricanes and all, cell towers are usually the tallest thing around.

I often worry about the effects of those strong electromagnetic signals cell towers put out. There has been an off again on again discussion for a decade linking personal cell phone usage to brain deformities, cancer, etc on that side of the brain.

So I wonder if anything will begin to show up in birds nesting near signals which are orderS of magnitude stronger than the pipsqueak signal generated by a battery powered cell phone.

Kirby, what a variety of birds you have down there.

Good Morning, Patio! WOOWWWW! Alfreda and Jarifa...what a tremendous team to bring us this masterfully written recap with great commentary. Thank you! And thanks, everyone, for providing such great comments and saving me time from writing since your thoughts mirror mine...a BIG DITTO for all the commnents:-)

SO we all agree--

Flor is great!
Dulce and Fabian are both snakes.
Jorge is an idiot
Tono is a weasel and qualifies also for idiot.
Mau is clueless
For Ciceron we could care less.
Renee is cute, but indecisive.
Kika turned out to be the most impressive.

Much to do...laters...

The blue sky is incredible Kirby. We usually only get intense blue like that in October. Although when I lived in Wisconsin, there were lots of intense blue skies as well. I too worry about the effect on birds with those cell towers. And there have already been studies on the bad effects of big electrical power grids on cattle grazing underneath. We humans seem determined to trash our world one way or another.

So carpe diem and keep a good snappish chancla handy!

Jarifa, six years? I've been here 10 and it seems as though you have always been here!

I would add Levy but he and his white pants seem to have been ousted right after LT!

Kirby, it seems sad the birds are forced to nest in cell phone towers due to lack of finding suitable (and tall) living trees. I fear for their safety as well.

Diana

GM, good folks!

Can we hope for a little redemption for Cicerón? He was a bit shocked to see his own bad behavior reflected in his two boys last night. If the theme (or one of them) of this show is that fathers can learn and change for the better then perhaps Cicerón will wake up and become... well, a 'papá a toda madre' would be a lot to ask for, but is there such a thing as a 'papá a media madre'?
(I'm hoping that doesn't mean anything naughty or worse :-)

:-)
:-)

OTOH, does this show really have a theme anymore, if it ever did?

andy

I still find it hard to believe that Cicerón moved his entire family in with Flor and Nerón and then sat around in his underwear drinking beer.

How do you say 'over the top' in Spanish?

andy

Andy, the closest thing I can think of for "over the top" is Se pasó

How do you say 'over the top' in Spanish?
One Word:

SLUG

Chickie, thanks for the information!

Kirby, are you sure that's not Spanglish? :-)

andy

Thank you to both Jarifa and Alfredo for recapping every frustrating moment.

Seeing Dulce pawing clueless Jorge in bed was cringeworthy. Jorge made his bed, so he should just lie in it . Who knows what that cat🐱 dragged in with her when she slinked back home. Yuck. Jorge deserves Dulce.I

As others have noted, it seems that Genovese no longer portray heroes, people to look up to. Que lastima.

Well, I have my chanclas on and am headed to the beach. Misty and humid here.

Geez, tablet..telenovelas......not Genovese. Ergggggghhhhh

"I still find it hard to believe that Cicerón moved his entire family in with Flor and Nerón and then sat around in his underwear drinking beer". Neither can I Andy. Neither can I.

Susanlynn, "Who knows what that cat🐱 dragged in with her when she slinked back home". Shudder :)

What a fun patio today. Gracias.

Diana

" headed to the beach. Misty and humid here."

You're in, where, Topeka Kansas? It's quite a drive to the beach isn't it?

Take Diablo and teach him to swim.. ! ! ! Genovese ! ! !
My mind already sees that as TeleNovelas, so don't even worry about it.

You mean what Isuzu left in her cat. Meow.

Happy Friday's Eve.

Diana, my first novela was PESE. I saw some guy in drag and had to find out more. Still one of my favorites. I was so excited when I found Caray. We don’t see Lucero anymore either , do we? What was your first novela?

Anybody else care to share what their first novela was?

It is 90 sunny and humid. Next couple of days in the low 70’s. I am ready for some outside fun. Off to run errands.

re: Cicerón......How does one say “sense of entitlement”? His wife beater undershirt was a good choice by the wardrobe dept.

How is it that Fabian can walk yet fooled the specialist doc? Oh, wait, where is my beanie hat?

I wonder what Fab’s end game is. The first telenovela I saw Mark Tacher in was La Hija del Mariachi as a good guy. I’m still having a hard time seeing him as a villain. Too bad he went over to the dark side. 😳

I feel cheated. I really wanted to see Flor wing that chancla at Cice’s head and MAKE CONTACT!!! 👡👡👡

Jarifa my first TN was Aventuras en el Tiempo in probably 2000. I only watched it to see Vanessa Guzman, and what she wasn't wearing. Maribel Guardia was in it too, along with Belinda as a little bitty kid.

Doris: "How does one say “sense of entitlement”?" Nopis, I've seen that act a hundred times in real life. It is called passing off an excuse as a reason.

"I'm all forked up because of the way you raised me."
Nope, You are giving your upbringing as an excuse for the forked up things you do.

But you are just messed up and don't want to put forth the effort to fix it. Not my fault. Try somebody else who maybe DID just fall off the tomato truck. Now get your spawn and this unfortunate girl you are dragging around and get out of here.

doris, I just saw Mark Tacher as a good guy in last summer’s “El Bienamado”. That was an excellent comedy eventhough it had a few grotesque turns of fate here and there.

La hija del mariachi seems to be one of those classics that I always hear everybody talk about.

It would have been great to see the chancla hit the air! Just watch for Flor hopping on one foot as she takes her chancla off in the intro. Who is that one intended for?

Kirby, Aventuras en el tiempo is before my viewing time. Oh, now I see it had a time machine. Looks like it could have been fun beyond Vanessa and Maribel . . . : )

Jarifa, my first was Alborada. Hearing Placido Dominga sing the theme made my spine tingle. Fernando Colunga and Lucero were the leads , and Daniela Roma was the villain. It was a fantastic , romantic historical novela....longhaired men, boots, horses. I think that I will have to do a rewatch soon.

Kirby..the beach is a two or three hour drive away.love the ocean.

It was a kid show, but it had this time machine and each episode they went to a different time in history or the future.

It was actually an entertaining show for a horn dog engineer.

Susanlynn, Alborada is another one of those classics that I always hear great things about. I would have loved to have seen Colunga in his heyday. It has to be out there somewhere just waiting to be streamed.

Yeah, I knew you weren't in Kansas anymore Dorothy. It just looks to be as far as geographically possible from salt water so I pretended.

Hmmm...I wonder how Lucero slipped under my Dogradar. I actually do not know who she is. I hear her name here on Caray all the time. I am familiar with most of the other female and male heartthrobs mentioned here, but Lucero never rings a bell.

Too much blue

Kirby, she is also has a longlasting singng career and beside Por ella soy Eva was in Soy tou dueña.

Doris and Kirby: I think Cicerón’s sense of entitlement is probably more than that. He is angry that his father replaced his mother with a new and younger woman, Flor. That’s why he brought his deceased mother’s portrait to stick on the mantle as a “reminder” that she was his mother, this was her house and he isn’t accepting anything else. Then the bad behavior is his knee jerk reaction to the whole thing. His excuses that his father Nerón was never there for him is just a trial balloon. He should be grateful that his father worked so hard to support the family, keep a nice roof over their heads and put food on the table for them, which is a lot more than a lot of other fathers do. He could have had a father who gambled and drank all the money away, leaving the family poor and hungry. But he had it good and he doesn’t appreciate what he did have. Blaming Nerón for his bad behavior is just wrong because Nerón was ALWAYS a hard worker and a very honest man. (As far as we know.)

OMGoodness, you all are just babies to TNLandia!! The very first TN I remember watching is “Esmeralda” with Lupita Ferrer and Jose Bardina in 1970!! Ferrer had the most beautiful eyes I have ever seen and I saw several of her subsequent TNs. I took a long hiatus and started again with “Maria

Cynthia, you echo my feelings about Nerón exactly.

Crudsicles, I lost half of my comment! Here is the rest...

...”Maria Isabel” starring Adela Noriega. I saw many of her TNs then another haitus until “La Malquerida”. I found Caray while watching ECDLP and SO glad I found it!

Lucero was also the very evil antagonist in “Mañana es Para Siempre.”

RgvChick, Wow! That is some kind of novela history!

Chickie, I'm a new comer to TN Land too. I just started watching when Hotel de los Secretos came out. I loved it then and now I can't stop! :)

My first novela was La Fea Más Bella. I had decided I wanted to learn Spanish to hopefully fend up dementia (my mother had it) and somehow thought just watching the evening news and some telenovelas would do it for me.

On the news all I could understand was "la Casa Blanca" and "el Presidente Bush". On the telenovelas, took a brief stab at la Pelegrina and couldn't figure out whose baby was whose, when or where.Gave up on that one.

Then somebody on Fea Mas Bella explained how to put the closed captions on in Spanish and I was off to the races. Wrote things down. Bought a big Spanish dictionary and looked things up and slowly but surely learned how to say a few niceties. And of course a whole lot of insults which I was NOT going to use. Also fell madly in love with Jaime Camil. Then saw him on a talk show. Realized I was NOT in love with Jaime Camil but rather the character he played in the show.

Did not watch Alborada until much later when someone gave the the DVD's. At the time all that villainy upset me. Now I've learned to go with the flow. Still basically a naive wuss though. 'Cause I actually thought Fabian had changed. Blush Blush. Yes I did! Nobody else on the Patio was fooled though.

Scary to think I'm as dumb as these dumb characters. But not yet senile. I hope!
Just D.U.M.B. and way too trusting.

Love reading what everyone watched. Their "first"...

Jarifa, I started with Destilando Amor. Hub used to watch and one night, I spied Eduardo Yanez on screen. I melted and that was that. The first I saw in its entirety was Querida Enemiga with Gabe Soto, Marco Mendez AND Jorge Aravena! Sigh.

My favorites include Pasion, El Nombre del Amor, Amores Verdaderos and Corazon Salvage (09).

RgvChick, I always wanted to watch Esmerelda. doris and Jarifa, I heard La hija del mariachi was excellent, but I didn't see it. I've only seen Tacher as a villain. Have to admit he is great here. Kirby, if you'd seen Lucero in MEPS, you would have remembered. As Rgv Chick notes, she was evil personified.

Some years ago I used to casually watch TNs with my better half (Dominican) but quit after she died. The only one I remember from then is 'Betty, la fea'. I started watching again last year with 'Mi Adorable Maldición' which I thought was just wonderful... for a while. I still think it had great potential but it went downhill badly in the second half.

Nonetheless, it was a great re-introduction as it had almost perfect Closed Captioning, which I needed badly as I had not yet found Caray. Looneycision didn't help as it sliced and diced the last week or two. I was totally confused, but I thought they wouldn't actually cut scenes (ha!). Then I remembered all the preemptions for coverage of Hurricane Maria and I thought, well, maybe. Now I know.

Actually, it was searching on the internet for an answer to the question of "was the TN actually supposed to finish up like that?" that led me, eventually, to Caray. And I am so grateful that it did. I don't know if I would have continued watching TNs without the recaps and all the insightful, friendly comments. My thanks again to all, and especially to the recappers!

My first telenovela was ca. 2000 watching Maria Rosa Buscame una Esposa with Gianella Neyra. I watched Limavelas on daytime Looneyvision until there were no more. Then I switched to evening telenovelas.

I started watching TNs to wean myself off of porn. Didn't work, so now I'm watching TeleNovelas too.

Just kidding

Thanks, Alfredo and Jarifa. Great narrative and tart parentheses. You two make a super team.

My "first" was the tail end of Alborada. I was shocked when it ended because I had assumed Mexican TNs were like U.S. ones and ran forever. Next up, I watched Fuego en La Sangre and found Caray when a plot twist was so crazy that I Googled to figure it out.

Niecie, you have been watching for a good long time, too. So glad we all ended up at Caray.

JudyB, I will not admit how many times I have seen all 300 episodes of LFMB and do think that was Camil’s best role. It is funny but I even like all of the goofy subplots and characters. Yes, I know many of the lines.

Diana, so you are an Eduardo Yáñez fan. I loved him in Amore con trampa. That was a well-written comedy.

Andy, Betty la fea another classic! Was Mi adorable maldición on in the afternoon? I do not remember it and that could be why.

doris, I bet you could tell us many tales of Univision across the decades. ”María Rosa búscame una esposa” even rhymes!

Cynthia never knew you were so new to telenovelalandia.

Kirby, very funny!

Niecie..ahhh. Fuego. I liked to think of it as the Fabulous Baking Brothers. Lots of showering and skinnydipping. And remember the beautiful Fresian that Big Ed rode? And the three sisters and three babies. And the sisters' shop "Crap from Afar."

Jarifa, yes, Mi adorable maldición was on at 3 PM, I believe, and then rebroadcast the next day at 2 AM, so I had two chances to see or record each episode.

andy

Thanks, Andy. I need to pay more attention to what they put on during the day.

Crap From Afar...oh yes, those were golden days Susanlynn.
JudyB on her iPad
Just watched Dirty Dancing again on iPad. Now there was an awesome dance movie...who cares about the plot?!
