Por Amar Sin Ley, 5/10/18 Chapter 48: Make Me An Offer I Cannot Refuse

    • Ricardo “threatens” sex offender suspect #uno with the full weight of the law to put him behind bars , lock him up and throw away the key.  SoS1, aka,Tavio has a mouthpiece who shows the magistrate at the police station a writ of protection against  atrocities by the legal authorities.  Essentially he doesn’t have to give his statement yet and cannot be thrown in jail, either. (I believe.)

    • El Ciego has a few little things in mind for all the pesos he’s been piling up lately which he brings up to Carlos.  What’s the possibility Carlos can do a little cleaning up for him?  “--Oh, you mean money-laundering?”  El Ciego sniggers over to his guerrero, “--He said it, not me!! Well, you might say that, yeah.”  He notes Alejandra’s picture on the credenza behind Carlos.  Carlos, unshaken, says yeah, they can handle a few soapsuds here and there.

    • Leonardo walks in on Ric to stomp cautiously on the fire sparks Ric’s set off.  “--Your Honor, is everything in order?”  Yep. Just then Ric begins to shoot his mouth off, stepping on his proverbial personal appendage once again; Leo interrupts just in time  uhhhh-gain to keep Ric from doing any real and lasting damage to the aforesaid and, thus, to their case.  He turns to Lic. Mouthpiece and reminds him that he certainly knows his client is guilty as Hell, and that he no doubt knows where the other two culprits in this creep-crime are hiding out; so if he learns that he's been covering for his pals..... If Tavio has known and kept if from the court, there’ll be more than just Hell to pay!  “--My client will be speaking for himself alone.”  He’ll be adding charges.  “--Sr. Abogado, have you been completely honest with your client?  Have you told him that if he’s found to be covering for those other two that it will add years to his sentence?”  Ric booms and thunders.  “--You know where they are, don’t you?!!” Tavio starts to say something but Mouthpiece shuts him down before anything intelligible is said.

    • Olivia enters Leticia’s office and warns her again they need to check first with Alonso to see if he’ll sanction their taking that iffy kind of case on for the firm.  Leti says she’s certain that once she’s won the case Lonnie won’t have a problem.  It will be her ticket to Senior Attorney.  Besides, Leti is certain Oli just wants to keep her down in the trenches doing scutwork for her forever.

    • Back at the police station, Leo takes a chair and speaks one on one to Tavio,  If he helps find Manual and Francisco his sentence will be much lighter.  Mouthpiece says he’d have to discuss it with his family first—if in fact he is actually guilty, which he is not!!  Leo hands over his card.  Ric gets impatient at the defence attorney’s cautionary legal wordplay.  Stavo looks anxiously up at Mouthpiece.  Leo begins lecturing El Portavoz [Mr. Mouthpiece] who stares him straight in the eye and replies that Leo doesn’t need to lecture him on the law.  Ric sneers that they all know they’ve got him dead to rights and it’s the only way to save his client in any manner. “--We all know the way this ends up!”   “--Maybe the mighty Vega Firm thinks so (as in, they can railroad my client) but you still haven’t proved my client is guilty!”  The magistrate warns the client is not allowed to leave the city.  “--He has no reason to.  We’ve cooperated with the authorities from the beginning and will continue to.”

    • Oli and Leti have a sit down with Lon to discuss the possibility of her new case proving false claims by a manufacturer.  It’s her chance to prove again that she can handle a case alone and win it.  They have evidence and then some, she says.  Lon says it’s not the type of case Oli would take on, and it is a very difficult type of case to prove.  He finally says he’ll bring it up in the firm’s weekly business meeting.  They’ll have the final decision and perhaps someone there will be able to help with improving her arguments.  Leti’s satisfied and leaves.  Oli adds she’s not happy about it.  Lon says fine, but if Leticia’s going to take on cases of her own she’s got to learn the responsibility it entails.  [conllevar – involves, comes with, brings]

    • On a lighter note, Dr. Morelli’s scheme to win over Astrid takes form.  She finds a bit of poetry and a box of chocolates?  She reads the poetry and begins to smile.

    • Leo and Ric visit Alexa’s home to inform her and her dad they’ve found Tavio, and he’ll probably lead them to the other two.

    • Juan mentions over night time chocolate and whatever that they’ve got another suspect in Patti’s death: her fiance.  Very possibly it was he!!!!  There follows a bit more of shop talk about her current job, then Juan mentions how brilliant she is and how fortunate he is to have her with him.  They share a kiss.

    • Benjamin joins Leti at her apartment.  He’s got somethin’ else besides bidnez on his mind but she supposedly nixes that since she’s got prep to do and big dreams to become something at Vega.  She’s pissed that he’s telling her to rethink it.  "--This is an alley with no exit."  She thinks he’s being chauvinistic.   In the long run, they see eye to eye on one thing and a bit of mouth to mouth ensues.

    • Across town, Paula and Ale are shocked to hear on the news that Carlos has defended a drug trafficker and gotten him off.  Ale is worried that because Carlos’s case hasn’t been closed yet it could harm his chances for getting off completely.

    • That night Ric shows up at Elena’s to see the kids and forget a bit.  She tells him he can come anytime and doesn’t need an invitation or permission.  After reading them bedtime stories, Elena suggests he doesn’t have to leave if he’s too tired.  He can stay in Natie’s room.  Ric says not a smart thing to do giving the kids hope in something that just isn’t there.  Elena keeps pushing but he doesn’t give in.

    • Next morning Ale visits Carlos to see if he’s got his head on straight after seeing him defend a known narcotrafficker.  He gives her the same no holier than thou B.S., and while he’s legally splitting hairs, we’re spitting up hair balls.

    • Over at Vega, Octavo’s mouthpiece arrives with a deal—he’s cooperating if they’ll keep their word.  Ric the Brick staunchly defends the honor of Vega and Associates.  El Portavoz gives up the two locations the other boys are hiding in: Arizona and Chiappas.

    • Ale tells Carlos he’s full of hogwash and sinking deeper in doo-doo all the time.  Carlos says it’s over and done with and he’ll never be trying another case for them, he promises.  (We all know what his promises are worth, but does Ale yet?)  She sidesteps and says don’t forget your case isn’t closed and being connected with narcotraffickers can only hurt you.  He parries and asks if she’s no longer in love with him why does it bother her so much.  She cannot answer.

    • Victoria takes on a new case of a woman whose ex refuses to pay child support and who keeps skipping out and changing residence to avoid being brought into court.

    • Ale tells Carlos she’ll always care about him and what happens to him.  He makes a date with her to discuss ...er...the foundation.  He’s met someone who might help with the foundation.

    • Juanito pays a visit to Tatiana to ask her help by telling her story to the other attorneys on the case.  Tatiana, who has her hands all over Juan, promising to repay his generosity says definitely not.  She doesn’t trust them as far as she can throw them and they have the guilty guy already.  He explains then tell them yourself that it’s Carlos and how she knows.  Touchy Tat tells him she will.

    • Ale comes back to work and complains to Oli about Carlos defending a guy for illegal arms shipment and the press says he’s also guilty of drug trafficking but Carlos says there’s no proof of that and he was not guilty of the gun crime.  She doens’t know whether to believe him or not!  Oli doesn’t believe he’s so blind and such a fool to get involved willingly with people like that. Ale says whenever he tells her something she always believes him and doesn’t know if she should.  Oli says whenever you’re in love with someone you believe them unconditionally. Ale’s eyes are big as saucers: ya mean…..?????

    • Leo and Ric arrive back to the office and mention their hopes for a short, uncomplicated extradition process for the kid in Arizona, otherwise there won’t be hope for a trial.  Roberto walks in to invite the guys to decompress at a local club with him.

    • Ale disagrees with Oli.  She feels differently about Carlos now and all because of….Ric?  Oli has nailed it.  Yup.  He’s turned her world upside down.  Oli feels the same about Leo and the worst is she cannot get him out of her head.  Ale, likewise.  Why not talk to Ric about it?  Nope, if he doesn’t want to deal with it or her and approach her first, then she’ll just have to look to greener pastures.  "--I say it’s a question of time, right?  Time....  Right?"

    • Rob enters Vicki’s office to invite her along with Leo and Ric for a bit of happier hour.  He of course suggests something for just the two of them afterward.  “--Only in your dreams, Robbie. Only in your dreams!”

    • Ric asks Ale to help him with the authorities in Arizona to pick up Alexa’s cousin, Francisco. She will contact Interpol and they’ll take care of it.  He turns to her suddenly and says being in this office reminds me of when we worked together.  “--Yeah, great memories, but still just memories, right?”  He nods and leaves.

    • El Ciego pays a visit to Carlos late that afternoon.  Carlos brings up putting his money into a foundation he’s starting.  Ciego reminds him that it will be a little to begin with but later it will be more and more.  “--And how much are you going to pay me for this?”  “--The legal amount: 5%.  The legal amount.”

Jardinera,

Thank you for giving us an extraordinary recap of this episode.

For now, all I'd like to say is that this novela is like a rotating Ferris Wheel of Televisa's best and strongest actors who sit in the Ferris Wheel bucket and go around and around. The cast just gets better and better with each passing episode.

I can see why Televisa would like to take this into a second season and more. As with Law & Order, the lawsuits are innumerable; and here they are intertwined with the lawyers' personal lives.

Someone mentioned earlier that Raquel Olmedo looked as if she had been very sick. I was astonished and sad to see how skinny and sick she looks. Her voice is so unique. Who knew she was also a singer of some renown?

She was unforgettable in Abismo de Pasión and, better yet, in Teresa!!!

I agree. Raquel was fabulous in Teresa and also Abismo, although in the latter her role was not as strong. She was a real powerhouse in the wonderful Teresa...a telenovela I'd love to see again. Alas, Netflix has taken it off and it's no longer on Hulu either.

Now on to the fabulous Jardinera and her sizzling recaps. Great title to begin, funny riff on Benjamin and Leticia and then this jewel:

He gives her the same no holier than thou B.S., and while he’s legally splitting hairs, we’re spitting up hair balls.

Lady, I'd know you anywhere! No need to sign your recaps. Too funny. Thanks for a morning chuckle before I read the depressing daily news.

Oh and thanks for "conllevar" and also Touchy Tat. Hmmm...is she supposed to be the worrisome rival for our Juan. The one to give his sweet girlfriend anxious nights of worrying? Oh dear.

Jardinera: Thank you for the recap.

I see they've caught Tavio. Hoping the others involved in the violent gang-rape of Alexa get busted as well.

Judy: Did they catch Francisco yet ?

Anon.6:31AM, right. I am afraid to think that it might be the big "C" for R.O. but it certainly looks that way. I hope Uni doesn't put a 2nd season of this on. It's not the normal intrigue-filled tn and it's a bit blah in the romance department for me. Too bookish and too dry.

===========
Hey, JudyB! Back from 2 weeks hosting the kids and their kids. Had to binge watch to keep up, here. As for Tatiana, she gives me the creeps putting the moves on Juanito. ON the other hand, he may be the first man to ever give a darn enough around her and her child so the affection is heartfelt but not sexual--maybe.

Hey, Steve! I they got their man, Tavio. Francisco may prove more difficult. That kid needs some medical sudsing.

Great work, Jardinera. My favorite is She’s pissed that he’s telling her to rethink it. "--This is an alley with no exit." She thinks he’s being chauvinistic. In the long run, they see eye to eye on one thing and a bit of mouth to mouth ensues.

Benjamin is being chauvinistic. I'd actually like to see Leticia win this case just to see him taken down a peg because if she makes senior attorney it will be without his help. She can then dump his skanky butt and look for someone who's available. Carlos would be perfect for her.

As for Besides, Leti is certain Oli just wants to keep her down in the trenches doing scutwork for her forever. this is pure projection. Olivia isn't like that and she wouldn't hold Leticia back. Olivia sees that Leticia isn't empathetic, which she sees as a character flaw. Which she would because she is overly so. The most balanced female in this story is Victoria.

Alejandra needs to drop-kick Carlos last year. His involvement with El Ciego isn't going to end whenever he wants it to. He's so arrogant I doubt that he knows that. And she needs to tell Roberto, Leo, and Juan about this. Vega could get dragged into this in some way because Carlos is their client.

And... if they discover that Carlos is Patricia's killer, what is the next step?

UA: Looks to me they're getting a 2nd Season. Univision wants to out-fox Telemundo.

The original Colombian version of this series ran for 131 episodes and won numerous awards at the TV y Novelas Colombia presentation. There is also a forthcoming version in Chile.

If this ends here in July it will have fewer than 110 episodes.

It's apparently been confirmed that Ellen Pompeo (Grey's Anatomy) got the rights for a US version that will be called Big Law. I wonder whether she sees the similarities in this to L.A. Law, which began in 1986.

Personally, I'm OK with the idea of a Season 2 if they can clean up the legal fictions in this series and really get serious. I don't know if the narco stories are as popular as they were a few years ago and I'm glad that Televisa has largely stayed away from that. I don't want to see any more series glorifying Pablo Escobar or Griselda Blanco.

UrbanA: "I'd actually like to see Leticia win this case just to see him taken down a peg because if she makes senior attorney it will be without his help. She can then dump his skanky butt" My thoughts exactly! She is redeemable.

I also like your planogram for the storyline getting murkier.

Jardinera, wonderful! Everyone already cited my favorite lines, so I'll just go for the overall kudos. A+!

Raquel Olmedo denies being sick, says she just got tired of all the weight she gained when she quit smoking. I don't think that constitutes gossip since it's right from the horse's mouth. Older people do tend to look haggard when they lose a lot of weight, and she IS 80.

P.S. I am doing the recap for Anita tomorrow and expect to have it up by noon.

Thanks Jardinera

I'm also on the Leticia table,I badly want her to win that case and not just dump Benjamin but also rub it in Olivia's face.

I recently saw that the total episodes for this show are 91 so I guess it'll end around July. I have no problem with a another season so long as try not no commit the same errors when it comes to legal processes and all that stuff.

I'm not a fan of Narco novelas that's why I rarely watch Telemundo but I did love La Reina Del Sur and I'm excited for the second season.

I hope Ale's Daddy didn't advise her to use some of her apartment money for the foundation, because if stupid Carlos uses it (the foundation) to launder El Ciego's money, she will eventually end up in big doo-doo!!

While I can't stand Benjamin, I thought it was funny when he told Leti something to the effect that her client would have to be in the 'same condition' as the actor in the commercial in order for the product to work, meaning he needed to be just as handsome, attractive, etc. I bet if Benji was defending the brand that's the argument he would use, "if you look like this, use our product and get this reaction!"

Then it wouldnt be the product at work
It would be the good looks. But that is the clincher, that company knew that
That the not so beautiful crowd would
Go for that line "use this deorderant
The women will come to you like flys to Honey", Of course in This case it did Nothing,or it smells like roadkill & It keeps them away. In which case leti Just might win this case. Benji who?

Everytime I see ally talkin to Carlos
It looks as if she is considering that
He is telling her the truth, and why?
She knows he is a liar. He was about to lie to her at the alter, on their wedding day.
But the popo busted him, at the alter. On their wedding day. Why does she even want to believe anything he says to her after his night of hot drunken monkey sex with the dead hooker, the
Night before their nuptials. And then
She tells oli that rick has to come to
Her first? She's the one that refused to tell Carlos that they are finished. He gets out of prison with his nasty prison hands and touching her on the face and on the hand slobbering all over her and she not pushing him away not telling him nothing so what's Rick thinking? Does she want Carlos back? He Gives her space. And what does Carlos do? Intricately drops little tidbits of assumptions that he and Ally are back together around Vega and Associates offices and they pick it up like a dog picking up a meatyBone, and they put it out there for rick and Ally to pick up and it worked because Rick finally says he's done and he has the appearance of being sucked back into the clutches of Exlena. Who is using the hell outta those kids, which
Is also workin. Oh boy these.

Thank you Jardinera

Jardinera, thank you for a superbly crafted and witty recap. I especially enjoyed this fantastic line :"He gives her the same no holier than thou B.S., and while he’s legally splitting hairs, we’re spitting up hair balls ".

I kept hoping for someone on that police force to use a tranquilizer gun on Brick already, but I guess they were waiting until he starts foaming from the mouth.
His over the top screaming and manhandling of the sex offender was so crazy and unhelpful and totally not a behavior a competent lawyer would display.
I get it, this sick pervert deserves to get life without parole, but Brick was actually irrevocably damaging the case by threatening him and behaving like a complete nutcase.
Thank God a level headed Leo arrived just in time to save the case or as you very aptly said to stomp cautiously on the fire sparks Ric’s set off.

At that moment, Leo should have thanked Brick for his services and removed him from the case.

Irene

Slightly OT:

Back during La Candidata we were all foaming at the mouth about the irresponsible journalism in that story. I hope we don't get any here. This true-crime series demonstrates examples of how aggressive journalism can screw up police investigations.

Jardinera, muchas gracias.

I was afraid Ric would blab something and jeopardize the case. After all the "calm down" he's given Alexa's father, that was a very unprofessional performance as a lawyer. Irene, ITA At that moment, Leo should have thanked Brick for his services and removed him from the case.

Some random observations :

-I know el Siego is supposed to be this big and scary mobster, but it's hard to be intimidated by someone that looks like Maya the bee in this striped shirt.

- I think whoever writes material regarding Brick's interactions with his children never met a child in his life. That scene of Brick reading a picture book for toddlers to an 11 year old was unbelievably absurd. Instead of feeling touched by Brick's immense love for his daughter, I couldn't stop laughing when he read some random sentence from the book about the princess feeling free and then quizzed that 11 year old about what he just read as if it she just acquired some deep philosophical knowledge.

- I think I am going to feel an uncontrollable urge to reach through my screen and strangle Olivia if she says " but she does it just to get money from the firm" one more time. It seems that it's her only argument against taking the case, because she said nothing else. She is like a broken record with this line and I would love Leticia to win this case and get a boatload of money just to see how annoyed she will be.

-Alonso's only argument against the case is that it might be difficult to win because the entire legal department of the deodorant firm will fall on Leticia. This makes him look like someone who doesn't believe in the abilities of his lawyers(supposedly the best in Mexico) to take on a puny legal department of a deodorant fir
And it is the lamest argument ever- if law firms avoided every difficult case or only took cases that are a sure win, they would be bankrupt at no time. Cases that don't require a lot of hard work and dedication are rare and a firm will never survive by taking only the easily winnable ones.
Often a good lawyer takes a difficult case and loses it despite all of his hard work, but sometimes he can take a desperately hopeless one and actually win it and establish a precedent, just like Leticia is eager to do. This willingness to risk big to win big is what distinguishes a great lawyer from a mediocre one and this win establishing precedent is what this lawyer is going to be remembered for.

Irene

Thank you, Jar--I was also spitting hairballs--what a visual!
I'm surprised but I felt that Bricky was better able to control is over-emotions. He seems like he can't see beyond the end of his nose and doesn't consider longer-term consequences.

I'm liking Letty more and more. She's decisive and single-minded and is keeping her eyes on the prize. After the little confab she and Oli had with Lonny, I looked at them and wondered if the two hadn't been reversed. Letty seemed much more in charge of things, Oli much more insecure regarding her own skills.

I'm getting exasperated with Ale. She's giving Carlos too big a benefit of the doubt. He hasn't actually lied to her that she later found out about. Other than being too obsessive and pressuring her about how much he loves her, Carlos has been a "gentleman." Regrettably, he just comes across as pond scum to me, regardless of how "clean" he comes across to her. Let's see how long it takes Ale to find out whose money is funding the foundation!

Toi toi toi, tonight, Blue Lass. Welcome back into the recapping harness! Look forward to your PASL debut.

The complete Teresa playlist is on the Uninow App. I downloaded the App from the PlayStore and it loaded without any viruses or malware, it passed all my security software. I hate viruses, so I have some level of confidence.

The resolution on UniNow is fantastic. Check first to see if Televisa has taken down any episodes for copyright infringement.

I've seen it 3 times now. But, I only watch the "preferred" ending of the three that were filmed. I like fairy tale endings.

Ava

I am in PERFECT agreement with you re narco-novelas and Reina del Sur. That was the ONLY nacro-novena I've watched and care to watch. I could never suffer through 6 seasons of something like El Señor del Cielo.

But DZ does overthe-top screaming, yelling, and tantrums soooo well. Just watch him in Sortilegio and it's hard to picture him as a protagonist, let alone a Galán. He cries terribly though, the feminine version of Lucero or Victoria Ruffo.

Victoria--I'm afraid you are right about DZ. Sortilegio was the 2nd tn I ever watched all the way through and he's marked in my mind as the primo antagonista. He's never been able to be a galan in my mind, although he came close in Doble Vida.

Irene

I think Alonso, Roberto, and Ricardo care more about taking on innocent clients, not those they feel are guilty. Then they also like going after the Bad, Corrupt guys.

Remember, Leo didn't want to take on Carlos until he looked him straight in the eye to get a feeling of his innocence or culpability?. Mr. Gómez (the Family PR and Diplomatic guy) is great at reading people right off. But I'm so gullible, that usually I get totally messed over by people that I'd never think, in a million years, could/would screw me over.

Jóse María Torre Hūtt is so wonderful in his role here, particularly, in his role of Don Juan.

To me, he is not all that attractive as a macho man, but oh boy his charm takes over and; I, for one, am now in love with him. Other than Alonso, he his my favorite character. He just grows on you. I think he fits his role so perfectly and realistically.

After, FELS, I swore I'd never watch Guillermo Cantú in another novela. His face was so pockmarked that it distracted from my 'shallow' tolerance. But here, he looks as if he had cosmetic skin procedures done, so that now, he is a delight to watch.

Because of the anonymous post about ABC's ears, I find myself trying to catch her ears sticking out behind all that hair! I know, I' so superficial, watching novelas, it's terrible.

I wanted to find out about who you guys were talking "Rachel Olmedo". I do remember her now. I never would have known that was her. She used to be a singer, her album is still being sold in Mexico. And there was a little known fact that's not written about, except in that article, she's gay. She
Looks good for 80. Some people don't age she well and some people do. She does Have an interesting voice. Deep.
It's called a Stronge voice. That's good.
