Por Amar Sin Ley, 5/24/18 Chapter 57: Life's Surprises Come In All Sizes

    • Ricardo and Alejandra finally spend the night together and in the same bed. (Viewerville was taking bets on whether he’d catch Ale’s zipper in that beautiful lace dress, but something tells me high maintenance Elena had trained him well!)

    • On the other side of town, Fer stayed asleep on the couch and Juan beside her.  She wakes up probably close to midnight and he wakes then also and walks her home.  Not to worry, his mama called hers and explained already.

    • At the scene of Imelda’s attempted murder, Alan and Carlos piece together the probable facts to the pictures.  Alan discovers some pomade that’s used for new tattoos in her room along with a diary/journal of sorts.  Carlos looks around and determines that Vicente’s DNA should be found on the drapery cord then it’s a slam dunk about the boy’s murder.  However, why would he attempt to kill them; there has to be some reason.

    • At Victoria’s apartment, Roberto is trying hard to woo her.  She won’t give in.  He’s a playboy. He want’s a kiss, some kind of encouragement and she gently refuses to allow herself to fall under his spell. He doesn’t force himself on her.  Like a gentleman he says, until the next time (and opportunity).

    • At Imelda’s, Carlos wonders why Vicente changed weapons from a drapery cord to a knife/razor.  Imelda is going to have to explain this.

    • Jaime and Alonso meet with Sonia to learn who’s trying the case against Marrufo so that she might give him a file with information regarding his accounts and the questionable deposit in his wife’s account that they’d put together for her.

    • Next morning Ale’s put on his oversized dress shirt and he’s in, yes, his last night’s suit pants. (Doesn’t the dude own at least a pair of jeans or sweats?)  While he’s starting to cook breakfast there’s an insistent knock at the door.  They think it’s a messenger/the guy from the dry cleaners or something.  She gets lazy and just opens the door in the shirt.  SURPRISE!!  It’s Exlena and the kids—no notice, no phone call ahead. She screams bloody hell at Ale and Ric, accuses him of lying to the kids and tells them he doesn’t want them in his life now, he’s never going to see them again, and he lied about having to be stuck at work!!  You name it, she came up with it. Ric’s every attempt to explain to those kids was blocked.

Unfortunately, Ric cannot think on his feet enough to  ask her why she didn’t bother to call first; that’s why the good Lord created telephones—not to mention manners --AND that he’s got his own life now which, as a member of the human race, requires a bit of personal space.   There is NO family unit now AND if she and they cannot figure that out what that means then spend a few bucks of his alimony on a good therapist for her and the kids instead of green feather boa vests and matching patent leather bomber jackets!!

    • Vicki and Rob arrive at the Old Folks Home to meet with Astrid and Dr. Morelli.  Dr. M mentions to Vicki how Rob has always spoken so highly of her brains as well as her beauty. This takes Vicki by surprise; Rob has the good sense to be embarrassed by his dad’s frankness. Vicki, after explaining the law about relatives having to pony up for needy family members once shown to have resources necessary, explains to Dr. M that she and Rob are only friends. Rob says it’s not for lack of trying, either.

    •  Lonnie shoves a pile of arguments into Leonardo’s lap to review with Rob.

    • Back at Ric’s place, Ale cries for helping cause such a scene for him and further ruining his chances to be with his kids.  Ric tells her she’s not to blame and he will try to speak to Exlena and them.

    • Carlos stops in at the hospital to interview Imelda again.  He’s pieced enough things together that she cannot deny she and Vicente were planning to go off together.  The place they’d planned on going to is probably where they’ll find Vicente now.    Does she remember or know the name of that place?  Nooooo….. Hadn’t said or decided yet.  Sure about that?  Yeahhhh. Some beach somewhere, she says.  Why didn’t they get there?  Her brother found out and everything went  really wrong.

    • Back in Lonnie’s office Leo mentions that Alexa’s cousin, Francisco, perjured himself in court declaring she’d asked him to have relations and make it rough.  Jaime arrives about then.  He and Lonnie.  They discuss the tape that wasn’t allowed of the phone call Francisco made which proves he called to apologize for what he did.

    • It was something her brother did that set off Vicente.  Her mother at first liked Vicente but then didn’t approve of their being together.  She finally told Imelda to break it off with him and stop seeing him.  They decided to go off together.   Her brother threatened to tell their mother if she left with him.   Vicente had a talk with him while she waited in her room.  He was taking too long and she went out to the living room and found her little brother strangled with the cord around his neck.  She realized he was dead and then Vicente came at her with a kitchen knife. She doesn’t remember anything else.  She looks frightened/worried however.

    • Back at Paula’s, Ale reports the morning’s familial fiasco at Ric’s and how Exlena brought the kids over to let them all chat and calm them down a bit.  Paula sees right through that.  “--Shoot!  Pure excuses!  That’s what a phone is for!”  Yes, but the kids don’t know any better and they’re just kids.”   “--Well, then he goes and talks to them and works it out, and that’s it!”  “--But I feel so guilty!”  “--Well, I fell sorry for you, but NOT for HER!  She’s nothing but a manipulative wench!”  She insists it’s not Ale’s fault or her problem.  Ale races off to get ready for work.  Paula gripes to herself.  “-- Why couldn’t she fall in love with a bachelor with no kids??? It would be sooo much simpler!”  (You got that right!)

    • Vicki and Rob return to Vega.  She teases Rob for chatting her up so much with his dad.  He tells her it doesn’t happen with the rest of the women he goes out with.  She tells him she doesn’t believe him.   He insists it is the truth.  She changes the subject to the case for Astrid’s brother.  She’ll try to avoid having to go to court and will try for a settlement.  Rob says thanks and reminds her of what his dad said and it being the truth.  She tells him she’ll think about it. He smiles and kids that this is a real breakthrough in their relationship.  She’s going to think about it.  He kids her about submitting and she kids back to calm down already.  But she does seem pleased.

    • At the hospital, Carlos tells Imelda’s mama that he learned a lot today but still feels there is something she’s still hiding.  I’s mama says leave it.  It’s enough and she’s suffering.  He gets a call and learns Vicente’s been captured and is at the police station.  I’s mama has a worried look on her face which Carlos notes immediately.

    • Back at Vega, Olivia wonders where Vicki’s been.  Vicki fills her in on the details and says Dr. M is a real charmer and that he told her Rob never stops talking about her.  Oli says there’s got to be something to it if Dad mentioned it.  Vicki says Rob  will never change his ways so she’s not going to waste her time with him that way.  Alan calls Oli and they make a date to go out.

Vicki teases her and says if it’s bad she can call like with all the past losers.

    • Ric makes a wasted trip to Exlena and tries to get her to give him a chance to explain to the kids.  They’re getting older and need to understand the changes taking place in their lives.  Exlena screams back he’s never allowed near those kids again and besides they are her kids; he’s not their father, anyway. NO.  He disagrees and says he’s raised them as his own and that’s all it takes.  The father is the one that raises a child!    She whines that she should never have thought they could be one big happy family or that he might actually care for her.   He’s got to sleep with Alejandra!!  “--I never lied. I had work!”  And yes the kids got to know this.  She threatens to call the police on him.  He says once she’s calmed down they’ll try this again.

Gracias, Jardinera.

You made the same point I would have about Exlena not calling first. However, she's a narcissist and they have no boundaries. She thinks she has an unfettered right to do this just as the thinks she has the right to gaslight her children. Her threat to never let him near the children again is the next step. She fails to see that this will not be a win for her, but she doesn't care if it's a loss to her children.

At this stage I don't think we'll ever see her first ex-husband but I'd love to know why he left her.

Not gonna lie, that scene with Elena and the kids by the door was so painful to watch, I even felt embarrassed for Alejandra. It was a really ugly image for those kids to see; it’s one thing to know that their father has moved on and has a girlfriend, but completely something else to witness Alejandra dressed that way. She lost their respect and looks like a sleaze. Her relationship with those kids was so severely burned, I’m not sure if it’ll be possible to fix it up, especially since they’re entering the teenage stage.

Elena definitely should have called first, but I guess they just wanted to surprise him and show him their support? Or at least that's how her story will go. I don't she actually knew that he was this far along in his relationship with Alejandra. Now Elena unintentionally succeeded in getting the kids against Ricardo, but she gains nothing if they hold their grudge and never “forgive” him. Also, if this doesn’t say “Elena I’m so over you,” what will? I’m not sure what the point is in getting the kids against Ricardo, as I don’t think he’ll be blackmailed into dumping Alejandra anyway.

If Victoria really doesn’t want to fall for Roberto then she should really keep her distance and stop the intensive flirting. She enjoys the attention, but she's overdoing it and this is an unbecoming game already. Someone commented that if Roberto really loved Victoria, he should show it by ending his playboy days (or put it on hiatus at least) and show her that he’s serious. I agree, he hasn't done much to convince her that she's special. What if in some sense this really is turning into a game that he's going to win and dump right after like nothing? As in he realizes it wasn't what he really wanted?

Of course, the writers probably won't go there, but imagine if they do.

I'm still Team Vicberto all the way. I mean, he was probably already a playboy when he met her and doesn't know any other way to be...if she would give him a chance, he'd be able to figure out how to change. I predict puppy-dog devotion and a complete personality shift once she gives him the green light.

Thanks for the great recap, Jardinera!

Thanks, Jardinera. Loved all the snark on Elena.

... he’s never going to see them again, and he lied about having to be stuck at work!! You name it, she came up with it. - lol

spend a few bucks of his alimony on a good therapist for her and the kids instead of green feather boa vests and matching patent leather bomber jackets!!

Well, at least Ric doesn't have to worry about her and the kids showing up unannounced any more. Honestly, if Ric can't get a call into Federico or that 13-YEAR-OLD asks his mom for "permission" to phone Ric, I will scream.

I have no idea what is at the root of Carlos's murder case, but clearly both mother and daughter are not telling all.

Thanks Jardinera

Elena just had to show up and ruin the after bliss of Ale and Ric's first night together and even worse with the kids. Ale should have used that peephole, just saying.
I agree Anon, very painful scene and I really felt bad for Ale.

Paula gripes to herself. “-- Why couldn’t she fall in love with a bachelor with no kids??? It would be sooo much simpler!” (You got that right!) Paula is all of us in this episode.

Imelda seems like she's hiding something

I say give Roberto the green light, but definitely no horizontal till he's proven himself. Take him to a singles bar and see if his eyes wander.

Great opening paragraph Jardinera

• Ricardo and Alejandra finally spend the night together and in the same bed. (Viewerville was taking bets on whether he’d catch Ale’s zipper in that beautiful lace dress, but something tells me high maintenance Elena had trained him well!)

...makes the reader want to race through the whole recap and find out what further fireworks ensued. And sounds like a whole lot did. But not the good kind.

I think by now most of us are thoroughly tired of these tedious children who operate at a 3 and 5 year old level and evidently have no friends or social life other than whining about when Daddy will be home. Basta ya!

Looking forward to watching this later and seeing Ms. Victoria begin to thaw a little bit.

Thanks for another fast-paced, snarky retelling of the drama last night. Things are heating up for sure.

Niecie, sounds like a plan! I bet if Vic encouraged him at all, he'd even tell all those other girls he was off the market right in front of her.

...and sneak back to the bar after boinking Victoria.

Jardinrea this episode has been very enlightening. I see another side to Carlos. If he wasn't so goshdarn over
The moon dangerously obsessed with ally he could be a good person. He's a
Good lawyer or he has potential to be a good lawyer but he's screwed it up with greed and dishonesty. I like the way he's going after that case with
Imelda's throat cutting and brother killing situation. He's very into it.
In a good lawyerly way. If I didn't know better I'd say he was a good guy, but I know better and he IS NOT a good guy. Blast!

The ally and brick situation:He really
Has got himself in a pickle with this
Ex he WAS married to. Someone should tell ex-Lena they are not married no more. She is literally psychologically
Messing up these kids minds against Ric. I really hope he sees that. But since he has no legal rights he may not be able to do anything about. And now that he sees that she has been using Them to pull him in, whats he gonna do Bout it?
Ally-"yes but the kids don't know any
Better and they're just kids". Bull! I
Saw how that little girl was towards ally when rick told them to give her a hug that day, if things don't change
She will grow up to be a manipulative bitch like mommie dearest. Now maybe some kids don't know, but I Wouldn't sell them short, they're not Dumb kids. I wasn't. Some things can be Figured out by "the kids". Beside Nowa Days some kids are a little more smarter than The adults in their lives give them credit for.

Keep at it robby you'll have her soon. Just don't screw it up.They have great
potential for a really good stronge relationship, besides the sex.
Somebody have a good relationship in this show. Please.

Is incest going on with the imelda family?
Thank you Jardinrea♡

Under the heading of All Things Considered, who in her right mind would name her daughter Imelda?

Imelda means-All consuming fight. It's of Spanish/Italian origins. The name of a fourteenth century saint. Is there another meaning under another origin?

The Spanish meaning is powerful fighter. It comes from German"Irmhild".

I was thinking of Imelda Marcos. The image acquired by a name because of whatever (in)famous person had it is a valid reason to avoid a name.
