Por Amar Sin Ley, 5/3/18 Chapter 43 Jueves: Flying the Coop - Discussion Page

So the ringleader frat boy had the gall to call his victim.  Paging Lorena Bobbitt!

Have at it, folks.

Note: Our resident attorney, relaxing on the lounge chair next to the Patio's Limpid Pool this afternoon has provided us with a crackin' good mini recap of the last 20 minutes of the episode.

Comments:
Who thinks that Juan boinked Roxana? His demeanor with her is waaaaay different from that with Tatiana. Maybe Roxana is one of those "heart of gold" types (if only by comparison).

Very smart of Leonardo to get the recording of that phone call. I can't wait for Interpol to catch these creeps.

I haven't watched the entire episode yet, but I cheered to see Leo was recording thc call.

Not only that, but seeing Leo relaxed without glasses, in a polo shirt and jeans with a nice jacket was enough to slurp over.

Can't wait for Irene to weigh in with her view of the appellate proceedings. Even I thought it was a bit odd. It looked every bit like a new trial. I have to hand it to Carlos, his argument was very persuasive.

For a firm that was almost on its last legs while Carlos was in prison, they certainly have built themselves back up. Does anyone else notice all the activity behind the glass partition with the design of buildings etched into it? Lots of men and women roaming back and forth.

I found Ale's pity party unbelievable. Sorry. I'm losing faith in Ale as a gutsy woman. She refuses to talk to Ric and swears off men forever. She and Oli need to get together and compare notes--although Oli seems to be going in a different direction. Will she or won't she visit a fertility clinic. I got the impression (ugh) that she was considering Gus as a potential sperm donor (ugh again) during their conversation in his office.

Urban--No, I don't think Juan boinked Roxana. If anything like that happened, she boinked him, but I doubt it. There was no hint of it when he was telling his mama about his feelings for Fer.

Juan seems like such a repressed mama's boy that I wouldn't be surprised if he were a virgin. I bet he won't undress in front of his mother, let along a lap dancer (although that probably wouldn't have been necessary). Sometimes I wonder why Fer even likes him, but maybe she doesn't realize what she's getting into with a mama's boy. Fortunately she and the mama get along fine.

True to that Anita, the pity party was kinda mind boggling but Idk why I'm surprised when I gave up on Ale long ago.

I was so very happy that Leo recorded that phone call, it's not everyday we see that happening in a novela.

Pity party with the three stooges indeed. The writers completely tricked us with Alejandra. She is far from the strong decisive woman they all made her out to be. Why does Alejandra not have any friends?

I also found it odd that Olivia went to Gustavo to speak about her fertility clinic plans. Is she that old to be afraid she'll never be able to find love and conceive a child?

Thank you Urban, for the comment page. And thanks to the patio peeps who have chimed in so far with comments.

Per my usual, I fell asleep and missed the last 15-20 minutes, which were probably the best part. Can someone fill me in please?

Too bad I was still awake for Ale's pity party.

LoriLoo, you didn't miss much in the last 20 minutes, but here is a mini recap of the last 20 minutes.(Part 1)

There was a scene of Juan talking to his mama. He said that he couldn't control himself with Fer when he kissed her because he felt something that he never felt before (which all but confirms the patio's suspicion that Juan is a virgin) and asked his mother what he should do about his feelings to Fer. He actually said to mama that he doesn't know whether Fer is the kind of girl that would like to be asked to go out or not (if a slight doubt about Juan's virginity remained after his previous remark, it evaporated quicker than a rain drop in the desert).
Mama said that Fer likes him too and just follow your heart.
But maybe I should consult a world renowned expert on women, such as Roberto Morelli, asked Juan(ok, he didn't say world renowned but he mentioned his expertise with such admiration that I will assume that is what he thought).
And in any case if I am to date Fer, I will have no time to see her and I don't want her to dump me, says Juan (yes, Juan's issue clearly needs an expert's opinion. Such a dilemma he is facing!).
But if you won't ask her out, your are going to lose her and come to regret it, says exasperated mama.
Then I am not going to see her for some time, until I decide what to do. (Yes, with such a difficult decision to make, when the world's fate is at the balance, it is better to take one's time and consult several experts to decide the best course of action regarding this complicated issue)
Irene

Mini recap part 2
Next, we have a scene of Brick and Leo talking about Alexa's predicament (the buttons of Rick's shirt are open almost to the belly button for some reason, revealing an impressive chest, but alas only uninterested Leo is there to contemplate it).
Brick says that the rapist are sick puppies and Leo says that it is one of the most difficult cases in his career, its horrible that a young girl was raped, especially considering that one of the rapist is her cousin.
Brick admits that criminal law is not his specialty but he gave his word to Alexa and her father that he is not going to leave them alone.
Leo doesn't compliment Rick's impressive chest, but does compliment him on being very good treating minors and says that Alexa is lucky that he is involved in this case.
Brick says the case is now personal.
Leo says that it is going to be a very difficult case. If one of the bastards left the country, then they will have to pressure the judge to inform the prosecutor's office and ask for the help of Interpol (clearly Leo doesn't know what Interpol means and how it works- Interpol is The International Criminal Police Organization. It is the national police that is in charge of liaising with Interpol if Interpol's help is needed).
All this will take time, and if the creeps left the country than we will have to ask to extradite them .
Brick states the obvious: Alexa will feel better if justice is served.
Leo says that in criminal law you get to see the worst of the human nature.
Brick remembers that Leo complimented him a minute ago and complemented him back by saying that he knows that Leo will do an excellent job with this case.
And now what asks Brick?
Now Alexa will have to sign her complaint and lets hope that the same day she will be seen by a medical examiner and afterwards I will pressure the judge to put the rapists name on the most wanted list and after that I am going to make sure that they go to prison, says Leo.

Irene

Fast forwarded on the blooming romance between Fer and Juan.boring just boring...surprised she didn’t put ice ream on his nose! Also fast forwarded on the Pity Party.........blah blah

Ok forgot to mention Ricks many chest peeking out out of his partially buttoned shirt! It was a war between his sleeve straining muscles and the chest.....

Mini recap part 3

Next we have a scene of Carlos with Alan.
Alan asks if he is ready for Alberto's trial. Very happy Carlos says that he is always ready (sliiightly exaggerating I might say, we all remember that he wasn't ready when they nabbed him for Patricia's demise).
Alan, asks him how he can help. Carlos says that he wants him at the court by his side, to show a united front to the world so that everyone knows that they are back.
Alan looks like he would rather eat ground glass than be in that courtroom, but puts a fake smile on and says perfect, you can count on me.
I have such great arguments that Alberto's lawyer will not know what hit him, says Carlos.
Alan says that Vega's "little law firm" is going to look very bad because of how Rob was deceived.
Carlos gleefully agrees and says that he is going to show to the world that being in jail changed him. First we are going to take a case given to us by one of the best lawyers at Vega because he couldn't handle it and then we are going to take Siego's case.
Alan is skeptical. Do you think it's a good idea?
Of course, says Carlos (in a tone a teacher might use on a 6 years old that doesn't understand why 2+2 is 4) don't you understand?. I am going to say that everyone has a right to a good defense, and I am going to provide it, defending Siego or doing a favor to Rob who was manipulated by a criminal.
Alan agrees.

Irene

(the buttons of Rick's shirt are open almost to the belly button for some reason, revealing an impressive chest, but alas only uninterested Leo is there to contemplate it).

Lmfao! I can't breathe.

Mini recap part 4

Next it's the weekly(or is it monthly?) reunion at Vega. The lawyers are enthusiastically grabbing bottles of Perrier strategically placed in the middle of the table.
Alonso enters. Good morning everyone, let's start with Alejandra ( He sure doesn't waste time with preambles). How was the Perez case?
Great, says Alejandra wearing a purple nightgown under a grey jacket, we won.
Wonderful, congratulations, says Alonso. Leticia looks at Benjamin and rolls her eyes.
And I am making strides in Gustavo's divorce. We are trying to get to an agreement.
That's true, says Gustavo, looking like he just drank a bottle of piss, instead of Perrier.
Great, happily chimes Alonso, congrats (he seems to be oblivious to the fact that only days ago Gustavo was trashing the office and threatening almost every single lawyer regarding that divorce)
Then Alonso asks Benjamin if he has a new case. Ben says no. Oh well, says Alonso, I am sure something will come your way soon. Yes, says Benji, and if it does, I am going to inform Carmencita so that she could put it in the agenda.
What about the Ibarra case, says Alonso.
Rob says that Juan managed to get the autopsy report. Leo said that brown fibers were found in the lungs.
Rob continues Leo's phrase(I guess they must give equal time to all the actors) which permits us to drop other hypotheses that we had and now we can say that it is a murder (finally, months after Carlos was charged with murder) and we only need to find a motive to find the killer (and here I thought it was the other way around).
Everybody suddenly looks very stern and concerned. Alejandra the rebel grimly sips her green tea and not a Perrier.

Irene

Irene, thanks for the deets. Your recap is hilarious. I second Ava on "alas only uninterested Leo is there..." -- lol.

Mini recap part 5

Next we have a very sad scene of Alexa and her dad.He asks her if Francisco called her. She says no, only her girlfriends. They worry about me, when I am going to go back to school. They want to see me but I don't want to see anyone. Also they said that the rapists didn't go to school. I am sure they fled, dad. Nobody knows anything about them. I am afraid.
Alexa's dad says that nothing is going to happen to her, but she says that her uncle has a lot of money.
He says, remember what the lawyers said.
Alexa says that it doesn't matter, her uncle does what he wants.
Her father says that he will do everything he can and they will pay.
Poor girl says that she thinks justice doesn't exist and nothing will happen.
Why this happened to me.
She cries on her father's shoulder and he hugs her.
Irene

Mini recap part 6

We continue with the Vega meeting.
Alonso states the obvious: I recommend you to work on all the hypotheses that you have. You have to be prepared for every possible surprise (clearly Alonso doesn't understand what surprise is. A surprise is "an unexpected event". By definition, you cannot be prepared for it. You can prepare for an eventuality or occurrence but not a surprise. Oh well, he looks so convincing saying it and everyone nods enthusiastically, so I will just leave it at that).
We hear you loud and clear, Rob says. All three of us are working on it.
Benji, wearing a ghastly pink tie, smugly says : Good for you. That's the advantage of having an assistant like the boy (muchachito) there (pointing towards Juan and proving that his choice of tie is due to rapidly declining eyesight).
Leticia looks at Benji and smiles.
Leo and Rob jump in. Leo says that Juan is not an assistant. He is a criminal defense attorney. Indeed, Rob adds. Nobody suggests Benjy to urgently visit an ophthalmologist. Benjy says sorry. Leo puts a paternal hand on Juan's shoulder, kind of invalidating what he said before.
Everybody but Leticia is uncomfortable. Alonso changes subject to Alberto's case. What's going on with it, he asks.
I transferred the case to Carlos so that he could appeal the winning verdict that I managed to obtain, says Rob, not even looking like he believes that this phrase makes sense.
And when is the trial, asks Alonso.
It's actually today, says Rob, and I will be there.
Great, says Alonso, something else?
Yes, says Brick, we have a case that is not on the list because we only got it yesterday. He briefly explains what happened to Alexa, everyone is indignant. Brick says that he wants to follow this case because the family involved is acquainted with his friend.
Sure, says Alonso.
Leo says that the case is complicated because the family of the cousin is very rich.
Vicky asks Leo to make the filthy bastards pay for what they did.
Alonso says that in all his years as a lawyer, he never had such a case and wants to be updated daily about it.
Alejandra says: you can count with the help of all of us.
Olivia uses this opportunity to say to Leo : Leonardo, whatever you need .

Irene

Mini recap part 7
Alan, Carlos and Fanny are in the courthouse. She is nervous, Carlos says that all she needs to do is tell the truth. She just wants Alberto to pay for what he did. She asks Carlos if Rob is coming. He says that she doesn't need Rob. Remember, Rob freed Alberto and I am going to take care of everything, says Carlos.

Our muchachito Juan is in Leo's office. Leo says, remember what Alonso said, we have to hurry with Carlos' case. Juan says that he has great news for him. He has Tatiana's address and went looking for her. Leo asks :what happened? Juan answers: I didn't find her.
Leo is exasperated: Then keep looking for her please.
Juan says that he was there twice already and that he found out something else : one of her stripper friends said that Tatiana's son is sick and that's why she didn't come to work. And he found out another thing: Tatiana and Patricia had problems.
I couldn't believe it, says Juan, but now I think that she had a motive to kill Patricia.
Keep going to her house, says Leo, even if it means you have to stand guard there(whatever happened to Juan being a criminal defense attorney and not an assistant?)
Juan meekly tries to say that he left his phone number to a neighbor and he will inform him when Tatiana comes back.
Our Leo is not convinced. What if the neighbor tips off Tatiana and she skips town?
You are right, says Juan.
Don't stop looking for her, patronizingly says Leo.
Of course not, says Juan and offers his help on other cases.

Irene

Mini recap part 8

Olivia is in Gustavo's office. She is just there to ask how he is and how his divorce goes (the most idiotic question ever asked, considering the threats and screams of couple of days ago. What did she think he would say, oh it's going hunky dory?). Bad, says Gustavo, unsurprisingly. I can't accept it and I struggle to be away from Isabel and my son.
Suddenly she says that he is a good man and one of the best fathers she knows. Yes, he says, Louis is everything for me.
Why did you have an affair with that woman, she asks him.
He says that he doesn't know and that he asks himself the same question(Oh, yes, the hot hot sex had absolutely nothing to do with it, I am sure).
Hearing this reply, any normal woman would be out of that room quicker than the speed of light, but our Olivia stays, and says that she always wanted to have children with a man that is as good a father as he is!!! While I was scraping my jaw from the floor, Gus sheepishly said thank you Olivia, but I am sure you will find a man millions times better than me (he overrated himself by a trillion or so).
She has such low confidence that she says that she doubts it. She is not good at this love thing and thinks about having an artificial insemination.
Gus, realizing that the next step is the strictly for procreation coitus with a clearly delusional (for thinking that he is the best) woman, mumbles that she deserves to have a family with someone that will love her, he jumps up ( probably afraid that she will start implementing her decision there and then) and says that she shouldn't precipitate and should find a partner with whom to have a family and in any case to have a child is a huge responsibility and you have to think about it.
She says thank you, I already thought about it but I want a baby.

Irene

Irene, your mini-recaps are hilarious. I particularly liked, "Alejandra, wearing a purple nightgown under a grey jacket..." Seriously, neither she nor Benjamin should be allowed to dress themselves.

I about fell over when Juan told his Mom, "I kissed her and I KISSED HER GOOD." And he did, actually. He must watch a lot of tv. But jeepers, is there anywhere that conversation can go from there that's NOT weird?

Muchas gracias Irene. Now I'm up to date.

I know I will like this TN better once, or if, Ale actually breaks up with Carlos, and finds out that he is lying to the other attorneys about their relationship. I would also like to see Paula demand that Carlos stop calling her "suegra".

As annoying as the Juan/Fer story line can be, they seem to be the only happy couple.

Mini recap part 9

Now we come to the most ridiculous part of this episode, Carlos' so called appeal of Alberto's not guilty verdict.
Again, an appeal is before the same judge that heard the original case. I already said it before, but an appeal is a kind of quality control of the original decision, so it can't be heard before the same judge that rendered the contested decision. It would be like getting a second opinion from the same doctor that gave the first one.
Also, you cannot hear new evidence in appeal. What should have happened is a retrial (a new trial from the beginning to the end, hearing again all the witnesses, including Roberto and examining all the evidence).
In addition, only the prosecutor, who lost in the original case, could appeal, certainly not Carlos the defense attorney.

But in any case, Carlos is appealing the original decision. He says what this patio said all along: the guy took shooting classes so how did he manage to mishandle the weapon. He addresses the judge and says that Alberto already made a mockery of justice once, including of you, so don't allow it to happen again.

The defense attorney says that it was an accident, just like it was established previously, and in any case there were witnesses there that say that it was not premeditated.
Carlos jumps in: in shooting classes they teach you the security measures in handling the weapon. But enough lies, I want to call my first witness, Ramon's wife.

Alexa's dad barges in into Brick's office. We have to do something, my daughter's friend said that these bastards didn't go to school and nobody knows where they are.
Leo, who learned the fine art of stating the obvious from Alonso, says that the probably fled.
Alexa's dad says that we have to get them.
Brick, another alumno of Alonso's school of useless information, says to poor guy that he has to calm himself.
Leo says to let them flee.
The dad asks why.
Leo says because by fleeing they are complicating things for themselves. They will be considered fugitives and we will use it against them during the trial (Oh ,Leo, it seems like it's your first criminal case. There will be a trial only if they manage to catch them, however if you let them flee they might just succeed by fleeing into a country with no extradition, and then what will you do?)

The dad collapses and says that Alexa is in a very bad shape.
Leo says that they will ask the prosecutor's office and Interpol for help and assures him that there will be no place in the world where they can relax.(again, totally false, there are many countries that have no extradition agreement with Mexico)
The police will find them and they will never see the light of day.

End of the episode and end of my first and last recapping attempt. Damn, it's a very hard work. Luckily, I had a day off today.
Irene

Thanks, Irene. Fabulous storytelling. Nothing mini about it. All the details, with choice wit and snark. Loved it, and I hope you do it again.

Hmmm, Ale has "international law" in her credentials. Guessing she'll be involved in any extradition.

Irene,

I have to agree i loved your recap of the episode it helped me a lot since i don't have time to watch but i still want to keep up with it. I hope you reconsider and recap again soon. We would all greatly appreciate it. Your side comments were just the right amount of snark i loved it.

Ava, Niecie, Blue Lass, LoriLoo and Ana, thank you for your kind words. It was a spur of the moment decision to recap half of the episode and I honestly thought that it will take 10 minutes tops because nothing of importance happened. Needless to say, I was sadly more delusional than Olivia. Oh well, it was an interesting experience and I have a whole lot more respect for our brave and selfless recappers who do it on a weekly, and sometimes daily basis.

Irene

Irene,"Brick, another alumno of Alonzos School of useless information says to the poor guy, that he has to calm himself",that had me laughing out loud

Alonso is another funny one in this
Fun packed law firm of lawyerly actin
Individuals."In a my years of praticin
Law Ive never had a case like this and
I want to be up dated daily". It's not
His case. Does he even practice law anymore or does he just wake up in the morning and put on those really nice expensive suits and go to the office and sit behind his giant desk and look out the window and go "what I do is lawyerly important, and I look the part". They can be very comical at times.

I can hardly wait to see benji get the
Rug pulled out from under him. He's a
Pompose ass he is.I don't care how smart Leticia seems she's a low life. Her & Benji deserve each other.

I'll watch ally, to see where she goes
From here, probably down. She has no pals. No wonder Carlos was able to snap he up, she had nobody that could see what she was walkin into. At times
Your gal pals can see what you can't.

Thanks for this mini recap Irene. You
Should give it a go girl, your good at it.

Thank you Nina.
I agree with you about Alonso. His interest in this particular case is very sudden. I mean, yes, it is a terrible case, but why the need to be updated daily? Do we even know what Alonso's specialty?

Irene

Great, says Alejandra wearing a purple nightgown under a grey jacket, we won.

Okay spare my ribs please!

You need to do more recaps, I love every bit of this.

So until Ale and Brick learn how to act like real intelligent lawyers and Vicky admits her attraction to Bobby the only option of a couple I'm left with is Juan and Fer? Okay *yawns*

Ay, Irene--you are a natural born story teller, too. I've been laughing at all you asides--and love the reference to only Leo being exposed to Ric's abs and uninterested at that.

I noticed the purple thing Ale was wearing to the staff meeting. Alina in CET was wearing red ones and we all made fun of them. It must be a fashion trend that hasn't hit north of the border yet. Or has it? I'm retired, so I don't see what women are wearing to the office these days.

I'm only up to Mini recap part 8, but I wanted to weigh in with my gratitude and appreciation. And these are only the last 20 minutes????? Splendid work. Give us some more, some time.

Irene--In Televisalalaland there are no countries without extradition and Leo can call up his old friend in the Interpol and ask him personally to find these pond scums.

Irene, that was absolutely AWESOME. Please consider being a regular guest recapper. PLEASE.

JudyB typing on a strange iPad

I liked the neon pink billowing pants and coordinating floral shirt that Ale wore to her pity party. Too bad her work outfits are more like AB's in Tres Ana's.

Irene

I appreciate your translation of misused nouns, pronouns, verbs, adverbs, adjectives, etc. IMHO, you point out things that may bypass some of us.

Again, your legal twist to your recaps and comments are such a pleasure to read and appreciate. I love your snark, it's such fun to read.

You did a marvelous job of recapping this episode and didn't miss a thing, even Brick's unbuttoned shirt. I didn't pay attention to that; but I believe that I saw Juan put his folded hands between his legs, there(!), after he paid Patricia the money, which Leo gave him to find out anything he could about Tatiana. I think those are the right female names.

Irene. Megaditto to all the previous accolades!! It’s not easy to get me to laugh out loud but you certainly did!! I Join the groupies in requesting you consider regular guest recapping!

I liked the scene of Juan and Fer at the Zócalo and in DF's center. The "Wing" metal art structure was so breathtaking and awe-inspiring.

Moreover, the background (song) music, which was playing in the background, for Juan and Fern was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING, IMO.

For those interested, check out the song on YouTube. It's by a new singer, for me, Sebastián Yates. The video itself is like one's treasured art work.

Watch "Sebastián Yatra - No Hay Nadie Más" on YouTube.

https://youtu.be/sD9_l3oDOag

By the way, it looks like DZ may have sung a song for this novela. IMHO, he needs to limit himself to talking not singing.

Thank you, my dear patio friends for all the compliments.

I took a little road trip on a whim and had no access to internet so couldn't thank you in a timely manner.

A bit of nature and a lot of junk food did wonders to clear my mind and regenerate lost forces, although relaxing on the lounge chair next to the Patio's Limpid Pool would have been nice too.

As to considering a regular guest recapping, I unfortunately have very little spare time and a very inflexible schedule, so I simply can't commit to do regular recaps for fear of letting you down due to lack of time.

However, I might attempt to recap again on an ad hoc basis, if the stars align and I have spare time when no one else is able to provide a recap.

Irene
