Por Amar Sin Ley, 6/6/18 Chapter 66/67 Miercoles: Family Affairs

Note:  Due to technical issues you have missed information pertinent to this tale.  We are working on the problem.  #67 events are listed in the comments.

Chapter 66: Family Affairs
I'm Christopher Mason. While many of us have been taught by our cultures that family is a sacred refuge, we learn that it can equally be a living hell. Identity theft is most common between relatives, incest is the crime nobody talks about, and – perhaps worst – most murders happen within families. Inheritance conflicts are likely to be the most common occurences of all. So while religious and social propaganda tell us about sanctuary, it is conflict that often dominates Family Affairs.
  • Alejandra and Ricardo discussed ending their relationship for the sake of his children. She said that they had to think of each other only as colleagues and he said they needed to keep their distance from each other otherwise. He said that being that close to her would provide too much temptation for him.
  • This couple really needs to read books about narcissism. They seem to be abysmally ignorant of the fact that this alone would never satisfy Elena whom – as we will see later – has no limit on how much misery she can cause.
  • Vicente Iturbide continued his testimony by telling the court that when Imelda realized her brother was dead she asked him to hurt her to avert suspicion from herself. Carlos got up to remind him that he was under oath. Vicente claimed to be telling the truth. Pilar yelled out a demand that he tell the truth while Imelda got to her feet and called him a liar. Carlos restrained her and Vicente's lawyer asked his client how it was that the deceased's sister helped kill him. Vicente answered that she had demanded the boy remain silent, but Carlos interrupted and handed a forensic report to the court clerk which stated that the cause of death was not what had been previously said in testimony.
The judge asked whether there were other questions and Vicente's lawyer asked to question Imelda. She was sworn in and was immediately asked whether there had been violence or other issues in her relationship with the defendant. She said no. He asked whether they had both been high and she then also said no. He then asked what had happened that day.
Carlos and Alan exchanged looks before she began and Carlos watched her carefully. She said that Vicente went crazy when her brother said he would tell what they were doing and for that reason he killed him. She then appeared to cry for a moment before looking at Vicente and saying that when he saw what he had done he wanted to kill her as well. At no time did she look into his lawyer's eyes or even Carlos'. Vicente then denied her testimony, saying that she had told him what to do. The judge demanded silence. Pilar's face was stony while Carlos looked suspicious.
  • No lawyer likes having a client lie to him. It upsets the case and could make him look incompetent or careless. Carlos had been wondering from the beginning at what the Huerta women were hiding from him. The trial is no place to find that out first.
  • The morning meeting at Vega & Associates went mostly as usual. It began with Alonso announcing his latest case, the mission to expose the corrupt mayor of St Benito. Ricardo and Roberto immediately said to count on them, followed by everyone else. Alonso thanked them all and said that the immediate need was to investigate the personal finances of their target and he asked Benjamín to report on this. Benjamín – as was his egotistical habit – rose from his seat to present the results to date. Public funds were going directly into the man's personal accounts and funds meant to go to the health department were going directly into the personal account of the Secretary of Health's wife. Leticia, who had worked on this, tried to add to this but Benjamín shut her down and continued, saying it was all linked and proof of corruption. Alonso thanked him for a job well done. Not content with that, Benjamín said that it was complicated, took many hours, and was for the good of the firm. Juan and Victoria exchanged looks. Alonso said he was grateful for this and Benjamín sat down.
  • Vicente's lawyer asked whether this wasn't revenge against his client for his relationship with Imelda's mother. Pilar looked uncomfortable. The judge disallowed the question, as it did not follow up on the previous response [???]. Counsel for the defense replied that he was looking to see if the murder had been premeditated. Imelda then said that Vicente went crazy as her brother was about to leave the room. As to why she said that her brother was going to tell their mother, crying as she said that this was why Vicente killed him. Her left wrist was exposed as she said this, showing the tattoo that matched Vicente's. Vicente's lawyer asked whether she tried to stop him and she said she intended to but could not because he was much stronger than she. Vicente's lawyer then asked to call Pilar to the stand.
Carlos stood up to question Imelda first and the judge told him to proceed. He asked Imelda to recall her thoughts when she was near to death. Vicente's lawyer stood and objected that the question was inappropriate [???] but Carlos denied that. The judge did not react, so Carlos asked Imelda to show her neck to the court. She gritted her teeth, then agreed to.
She then pushed back her hair, and slowly peeled off the bandage, revealing the long cut and the stitches holding it together. It extended around at least a third of the circumference of her neck and was still red. The judge looked away after a moment.
  • Imelda may be a minor but she had a full adult understanding of the effect this would have on a courtroom. She didn't have to say another word on her own behalf and she knew it.
  • Roberto was asked about “your friend, the reporter” and he said she had agreed to assist with pleasure, which elicited a comment from Victoria. Alonso went through the other lawyers' cases. Olivia had a simple divorce case she expected to finish at the end of the week and a criminal case she passed to Roberto. Victoria had a child support case that had no complications. Alejandra had a case involving a simple name change on a birth certificate, Ricardo had an uncontested divorce case. Leonardo talked about the Ibarra case, saying that the deceased's fiancé had been following Tatiana, whom they gotten police protection for. They will grab him at the first sign of trouble. They were still also investigating Alan. This made Olivia nervous.
  • Pilar looked over at Vicente as she was sworn in. His lawyer than asked her about her relationship to his client. She replied that it was polite but distant because she did not approve of his relationship with her daughter. He asked whether she had ever been alone with him in the house and she answered that it was a few times when waiting for her daughter. She was beginning to get nervous.
To his next question she denied having sexual relations with Vicente. She looked back at him; he appeared to be shocked. Carlos stood up, saying that it was clear that the only criminal there was Vicente. As his previous lawyer had pointed out this was an act of jealousy and a bid for attention. Counsel for the defense said he was trying to demonstrate motive, but Carlos denied that. The judge dismissed Pilar and requested closing arguments. Carlos claimed that all the evidence pointed to Vicente as the only guilty party. The defense claimed that the only mistake Vicente made was getting in between a mother and a daughter by getting involved with both of them. Pilar stood up and pulled class rank with regard to respect and to stop saying this. Imelda stood up and turned around to face her mother. She said that her mother would never do such a thing and extended her hand to her.
This looked choreographed, and not necessarily by Carlos and Alan.
The judge called for silence and then declared a recess.
  • Carlos could certainly have had a better closing argument if he had the time to prepare one and this case had been before a jury. He could also have done better if he knew what the Huerta women were hiding from him.
  • Gustavo told the others about the husband who tried to prevent his wife from having an abortion, saying that it has been difficult explaining to this man that he had no right to prevent this. Ricardo said that fathers' rights are a difficult issue with some things that can't be solved. Victoria said that abortion is solely a woman's decision because at the base of this it's her body being affected. Ricardo said that it is the man's child to... after three months. The man is the father from conception. Everyone began talking at once, but Alonso shut it down. The law says what it says and it favors the woman for the first three months. Gustavo said that this is what he tried to explain to his client, but that he himself had some issues with it.
  • Vicente was declared guilty of the murder of Eugenio Huerta and the attempted murder of Imela Huerta.
Imelda actually smiled at this verdict. The judge cited an element in the criminal code and stated that this was particularly egregious in view of the multiple violations of trust. He sentenced Vicente to sixty years in prison.
Vicente became hysterical, calling out Imelda's name.
She continued to smile as he begged her to tell the truth about what happened. As the prison guards took him away Imelda and her mother hugged each other. Vicente called Imelda a liar. Mother and daughter broke the hug and Pilar thanked Carlos. She did not seem to notice that Imelda looked at Carlos as though she wanted to drag him to the nearest four-poster bed. Carlos said there was no need to thank him; he was just doing his job. Pilar and Imelda looked at each other, then at Carlos and Alan.
Neither of them could have missed Imelda's come-hither look.
  • One has to wonder what sort of a family life Imelda had to have come to this situation.
  • Roberto described the client whose boyfriend tricked her into driving the drug-laden car. They were looking for other similar cases. Juan then said he found at least three similar examples. All were arrested and all claimed that it was a boyfriend who tricked them.
Victoria pointed out that they would have a great case if all were victimized by the same man. Leticia said she was waiting for a new case since the investigation. Benjamín said he would give her a paternity case, something simple. Alonso ended the meeting saying he would be in St Benito most of the week. Leticia looked very peevish.
  • As they were leaving the courtroom Carlos, Alan, and their clients were ambushed by the press. Imelda looked like she was eating this up as she began to answer a question. Carlos got Alan to take their clients back inside while he took on the reporters.
He told them that his client had no statement and then they asked whether the case was easier in absence of the murdered lawyer. He said it was not because the defense was very hard on his client without consideration of the pain caused to those involved. As to the rumors of her involvement, he said that this was a mere distraction from the actual suspect. He then said that he was satisfied because justice had been done.
Pedro – the latest suspect in Patricia's murder – appeared among the reporters and said “How good that justice does exist.”

Carlos told them that this is difficult for the family because nothing could bring Eugenio back. As he tried to withdraw Pedro pushed past the reporters to accost him. He started to whisper something and Carlos asked “Do I know you?”
Pedro's response was to pull back and loudly congratulate him and applaud him. The reporters aimed their cameras at him then at Carlos, who seemed genuinely confused.
  • Pedro was present at the hotel the night that his fiancée was with Carlos in the Orgy Suite. Carlos seems to not recognize him, but why was he taking the risk of being at the courthouse?
  • The four Musketeers and Gustavo walked out of the meeting talking about Ricardo's problem. Ricardo said it would take time to get things resolved, then they asked about how things were going for Gustavo. Gustavo said that despite having been married to Isabel he's having a hard time figuring out what would win her back.
A few jokes later he finally figured out that he should be pleasing his son as well.
  • Leticia got on Benjamín's case about how he treated her during the meeting. He took full credit for research into the corrupt mayor's finances and did not give her her due. It appears that his status had been maintained by her competence and not his own. He had been taking advantage of her. She told him she would never help him with anything again; she had learned from her mistakes.
She opened the door and told him to leave. He kept trying through all this to remind her of the car she wanted, etc., but she had clearly had enough. He left and she closed the door.
  • The reporters gone, Carlos and Alan escorted their clients out. Pilar expressed relief that it was over. Carlos told them that Vicente's lawyer would want to appeal, but he doubted that Vicent would get out of prison. Alan asked about their plans. Pilar said she was going to sell the house, as it was too upsetting to Imelda to live there. There was a show of mother/daughter affection before Alan escorted Pilar out of the building.
Imelda watched her mother walk away and asked Carlos whether he was sure they would not have to return to “this place.” He asked her why she didn't tell him the truth. She said she had told him all that happened. She had testified that her brother discovered the two of them trying to escape. Carlos said, “No, that isn't true. Tell me the truth.”
“The trial is over, so I don't have to talk about this anymore. Excuse me.”

He didn't let her get away. He pulled her back.
“Don't touch me,” she said, trying to push his hand away. He didn't stop.
“The bag you were going to escape with was in your room. Your brother was killed in the living room. Didn't you have Vicente kill him in revenge against your mother? Tell me the truth. It's not my job to judge you. I'm just making sure you can live with what you did.”
She fluttered her eyelashes at him, then slipped away.
  • I think Carlos got the answer he was looking for even if it wasn't the one he hoped for.
  • Elena's cell rang. She almost didn't answer, but changed her mind. It was Miguel, whom she had met the evening before when she was out with Leticia.
He apologised for calling so late in the day but finally asked if she would like to go out with him that evening. She only skirted playing hard to get but finally accepted, telling him she would text her address and directions after the call. She did so and looked happy about it.
  • Gustavo called Isabel about taking Luis to the new superhero movie. She liked the idea, then he asked whether she would come with them. She tried to beg off but he said it was a long time since the three of them had gone to the movies together.
She finally said Yes and they agreed he would come by at seven. He was happy as he ended the call. Oddly, she also seemed to be.
  • At that moment a man on a gurney was rushed into the emergency room. A red-haired woman whom the French would describe as jolie-laide followed in a state of panic. A nurse had to stop her and reassure her that the doctors would do everything they could. The woman told the nurse she would call Dr Moreno, the cardiologist. The nurse said she would contact him and the woman begged the nurse to save her man.
  • Juan showed the files to Roberto about the women he mentioned during the meeting. Juan said they would take the photo from Giselle's cell phone to show to these women to see if they were deceived by the same man. They had to act quickly.
  • Carlos visited Alejandra to tell her he had won the case. She thought the sentence appropriate because of the heinous and sick nature of the crime. He thanked her for her help and she said that she really didn't do anything. He then went on about what a great lawyer she was, etc., and that was why he was in love with her. She was not comfortable with this declaration, but allowed him to hug her.
She hugged him back, but with a doubtful expression that he did not see.
  • The redhead paced in the waiting area. A doctor came out asking for the family of Armando Ruiz. She answered. He then informed her that Sr. Ruiz had arrived in very bad condition from a heart attack and they were unable to help him. He had died almost upon arrival.
As the woman began crying in disbelief the doctor said she needed to fill out the documents.
She had just said she would not be able to when another woman arrived. This woman had platinum blond hair that looked more like a wig over dark hair and was wearing a clingy black dress. She asked at the desk and the clerk pointed in the doctor's direction. All she saw was the redhead and she angrily demanded what she was doing there.
“You have no business being here! Get out of here! Get out!”
She grabbed the redhead's arm and tried to throw her in the direction of the elevators. The doctor watched, horrified, as the redhead said that Armando was dead. The “blonde” paused only a moment before slapping her down hard, demanding to know “What did you do to my husband?”
  • Carlos asked Alejandra if she had a lot of work and whether he could help her. She told him no and yes. He went on about working together, etc., and she was not about to let him continue. It was obvious that he was still trying to get back together with her. She told him “I'm not ready.” He made it clear he wasn't giving up and that he thought she still had feelings for him.
  • Alejandra should not allow herself to be vulnerable to Carlos. His lust for ill-gotten gains is merely a symptom of what motivates him to pursue her. But who is going to tell her that?
  • The blonde asked the doctor what happened. He explained that it was a fatal heart attack. Of course the blonde blamed the redhead, screamed that she had no right to be there, that she had destroyed her family, and started shoving her. The redhead said that the dead man was the father of her son. The doctor got between them for a second but eventually the blonde shoved the redhead back, telling her she was entitled to nothing.
“But he loved me,” said the redhead.
“You think he loved you because he boinked you? Or that he just paid your bills? I knew. I knew all along. I'm telling you clearly that your son is your problem. It won't be mine.”
“I will see that he gets what's his.”
“He will get nothing because from now on your gravy train has stopped running.”
The redhead picked up her purse and left the nasty, slutty-looking blonde to cry her own tears, real or not.
  • Adultery is a family affair, like it or not. It's the kind that in Sr Ruiz' circles leads to the worst scandals... and high news ratings.
  • Elena served cereal to her children at the dinner table while she was dressed in pink to paint the town red. Federico said he wasn't hungry and Natalia said she didn't want cereal. That was all Elena had for them and they would not be going out. Natalia said that their father always made great sandwiches for them. Elena sang her old song again. “Your father is with his girlfriend and not with us no matter what you want.”
“That's not true,” said Natalia. “You don't let us see him.”
“It's better not to argue with Mother,” Federico said.
Elena played her broken record one more time. Natalia didn't want to eat what Elena put in front of her. Elena took the plate away and ordered Natalia to go to bed without supper. She said to herself she could not deal with this child, but Federico probably heard her.
  • Gustavo brought Isabel and Luis home; it was evident they had had a good time. He asked whether they wanted to go again and even Isabel said Yes. Luis asked if he could bring his friends and Gustavo asked how many. Nine or ten, his whole team. Gustavo didn't agree to that but took him upstairs so he could get ready for bed. Isabel smiled.
  • Ricardo was still working and he looked at the photos of Natalia and Federico on his computer screen. A secretary came in to tell him there was someone who wanted to see him urgently. He had just wanted to leave but he stayed to see the redhead, who told him her name was Adela Sarate.
She started crying as she told him that she was alone and the love of her life just died.
  • Elena looked at a letter or note, then Miguel arrived in the elevator. She greeted him with a kiss. He looked around and said complimentary things about the apartment while she put her keys in her purse. Miguel came out of his room and asked who he was.
Elena introduced him as a friend and Miguel shook hands with Federico, who asked if they were going out. Elena said yes, but wouldn't be late. She told him to brush his teeth and look after his sister. Federico didn't say another word as they left.
  • If Elena Fernandez thought she had caught Ricardo in a compromising position with Alejandra, she just made the mistake of creating one for herself. She has just left her underage children alone in the home without a servant or other adult present. She had allowed a complete stranger to enter her home, which compromised her children's safety as well as her own. It seems that she has earned her son's disapproval or – at the very least – his doubt.
  • Adela told Ricardo that she was involved with Armando Ruiz, a producer. They were in love and had a son. He just died and his wife wants to make sure they are left with nothing. When her son was born Adela dedicated herself to him and saw Armando when he was available. Now that he is dead she doesn't know what she will have to do. She asked Ricardo to help her get the money she will need to take care of her son. He asked whether Ruiz had left a will and she told him that he had never made one. He was superstitious about such things. With no proof of his wishes, Ricardo told her this will be a difficult case.
  • Luis had gone to bed and Gustavo went back down to the kitchen and he and Isabel talked about him as thogh nothing had ever gone wrong. She kissed him on the cheek before going up to bed herself. Gustavo looked hopeful.
Family is the arena in which conflict escalates the fastest. Elena Fernandez created conflict out of nothing but a need to feed her own ego, one that could not accept her own faults. Gustavo's client wants a family that his wife doesn't wanat while Gustavo is working to get his back. The late Sr Ruiz did not think to protect either of the families he created, which will be grist for the gossip mill. Pilar Huerta seduced her daughter's boyfriend for reasons unknow only to have it lead to consequences unforseen. Will the truth about the Huerta family ever be known? Carlos will think about this for the rest of his life. Until next we meet Behind Mansion Walls, I'm Christopher Mason.

Urban--I hate what Univision keeps doing. Some executive in scheduling needs to be fired. They should be required (a contract, maybe?) to show the whole run of a series without resorting to scissors slicing and dicing the way they do almost consistently.

Please leave this wonderful recap + screen shots up for us, even though no one watching the broadcast version saw this version. Without what you covered for us in your recap Wednesday night's episode makes little sense.

From what I can see, the scene with Gus and Isa in the kitchen is almost at the beginning of what Uni broadcast.

The full #67 started with a repeat of the last minute of that scene.

I'm not taking this down; our readers deserve every scene. If Univision has fewer days to complete this than they have episodes why not give us doubles when the other novela ends next week?

#67, Part 1:

Ricardo asked Adela about the registration of her son's birth. He was not registereed as Armando's because Armando had been out of the country at the time. She played a voice message from Armando on her cell phone that was directed to her son. Ricardo told her he would approach Armando's wife to negotiate, telling her that going to trial would be the last resort. Adela was satisfied.

Juan went home with no appetite because of Fernanda. He asked his mother if she had talked to her mother, but she didn't want to get involved. But he changed her mind.

Elena and Miguel went to a club and danced. He had not expected her to have children, but promised her she would have a good time with him. He kissed her in public and this looked like it was moving way too fast.

Doña Gloria came over to Susanna's but she knew little about Fernanda's issues with Juan. She didn't want to get involved but Juan begged her help, disclosing his feelings for Fernanda.

Roberto dined and wined Elizabeth, the journalist. After talking business they stripped for the beast with two backs.

Elena got home wasted, falling against the easy chair. Natalia got up and asked if anything was wrong. Elena shooed her back to bed.

Next morning:

Ricardo visited Carolina Ruiz, whose fake blonde hair now has pink highlights. She also has strange widow's weeds. He explained the reason for his visit and was told that the late Sr Ruiz had only one legitimate child: her daughter. She declared she would not allow a single centavo to go to “that slut.”

Federico found Elena passed out on her bed in the same dress and not under the covers. Natalia entered and got her to wake up. Elena obviously had a hangover and realized that the kids would be late to school.

La Viuda asked whether Adela's child was registered as Armando's and Ricardo answered No. She then asked how Adela could make such a declaration. She said that Adela was expert at taking advantage of imbeciles. She showed him the door. He asked her to think about it and save a lot of time and grief.

Juan paid a mariachi band every bit of cash he had to seranade Fernanda despite the early hour. He sang “Perdón,” which had been recorded by Vicente Fernandez (among others). Fernanda started crying. She pretended to not be impressed and tried to leave. Juan sang again, this time “Amorcito Corazón,” though this sounded like someone from the 1930s.

Elizabeth visited Alonso to talk about the case. They agreed on an interview the next day.

Fernanda said she forgave Juan, but that didn't mean she was willing to get back together with him. He had the guys play again.

Carolina Ruiz showed up at Carlos' office to hire him. He asked the usual questions and she told him she knew of the affair and that the child was her husband's but that she had no intention of giving up a single centavo. He said he would get one of his lawyers for her but she wanted him despite his statemenet that this was not his specialty. She showed him Ricardo's business card and he immediately said he would take the case himself.

Alan sent flowers and chocolates to Olivia. She asked Alejandra about him. Alejandra said nothing bad about him except that he had arranged for the “dancers” for Carlos' bachlor party. Olivia said that this didn't mean he killed Patricia but Alejandra wondered why Alan never owned up to making the arrangements. She didn't think Alan capable of hurting a woman but advised Olivia to be careful anyway. Ricardo's name came up and Alejandra was surprised that as she is more and more distant from him she is getting closer to Carlos. Idiot!

#67, Part 2:

Carlos began trash-talking Ricardo, accusing him of being abusive and looking for the easy money. Pure narcissistic projection. Carolina said she refused to pay out any money for her husband's mistakes.

Roberto visited Giselle, who was very afraid. He told her he was working on getting her out.

Alan saw Carolina as she was leaving the office. Carlos told him all about this. Alan was on his way to see Olivia and Carlos said he would join him and go to see Alejandra.

Juan visited the three women who were under arrest for the drug-laden cars. When he displayed the photo to them they all ID'd the man but said different names. All names had the initials AM.

Giselle told Roberto she had always gone out alone with her boyfriend and had never met any of his friends. He tried to get her to remember more stuff, then told her he would see her the next day.

Ricardo and Victoria talked about his case, then about the Ruiz case.

Imelda visited Vicente at the prison's phone bank room to gloat. He called her a liar and a cynic. She said she did this in revenge against both him and her mother. She told him to enjoy his sisxty-year sentence in exchange for betraying her. He yelled insults at her as the guards pulled him away.

Ricardo discussed his case with Gustavo and was updated on how Gustavo's efforts were working.

Juan told Roberto what he found out and they began investigating all the aliases.

Pilar loaded up her car for the move out of the house. Imelda returned and they drove off together.

Pedro went to the strip club and paid for a lap dance from Tatiana. Actually, this was to talk to her. Someone was watching.

Alan and Carlos arrived at Olivia's office. Carlos commended Alan's grand gesture. Alan insisted that Carlos and Alejandra join them for dinner.

Urban--You've gone above and beyond what we mere spectators deserved. This second recap brings us up to the end of what we saw--just perfectly. I will add that Ale tried to beg off going to dinner with Oli and Alan, but Carlos persuaded her. He is a snake. I hope he gets his head bitten off before the end, or at least his tail.

I am reasonably sure that Carlos will pay for his involvement with El Ciego. I hope that Alejandra doesn't get hurt or killed before that happens.

As for the two women of Armando Ruiz, I think they're both sluts but neither is as disgusting as Imelda.

I need caffeine after this.

So glad that you included your original recap. Always so well crafted. And yes, Univision deserves to be bludgeoned for hacking up these final episodes of the first season.

I loved your opening paragraph, which always highlights the common theme of all these disparate disputes:

I'm Christopher Mason. While many of us have been taught by our cultures that family is a sacred refuge, we learn that it can equally be a living hell. Identity theft is most common between relatives, incest is the crime nobody talks about, and – perhaps worst – most murders happen within families. Inheritance conflicts are likely to be the most common occurences of all. So while religious and social propaganda tell us about sanctuary, it is conflict that often dominates Family Affairs.

And got quite a kick out of your observation that Imelda looked like she wanted to drag Carlos off to the nearest four-poster bed. Yes, our innocent teen turns out to be a stealthy, lascivious monster. Well, Mom is no blanca paloma either.

At some point today I will watch this. Thanks for all you do UA and so sorry that Univision is working against CarayCaray and all its hardworking recappers at this point. Being able to read the full recap of the full episode finally made everything logical, instead of "Whaaa'''who's this?" etc.

I'm hoping for Gustavo and Isa to get back together. I actually think he's truly repentant unlike a lot of cheaters. But this is a lesson to men: never stop dating, even your wife. Ladies like to be courted.

I need Fer to get OVER IT! He serenaded you in 67. Girl, he's sorry! Also, he's too much a white knight and socially awkward to cheat on you, hon. You have probably the best bet out of all of the ladies on the TN for happiness and bliss. AND you're in good with Mama Santa. What's the problem? He's a trabajador. I thought that was a good thing. Certain professions come with a lot of hours and dedication. He was a lawyer when you met him.

I didn't trust Imelda from the start. She had cold eyes. Plus, that slice was kind of convenient. A butcher is a butcher and if the brother was sliced up she should have been too, especially if it wasn't a robbery so that murder was the point, not money. It's not like a real killer would have gotten distracted.

Tatiana, something is off with her too. I'm not sure what but I don't trust her. I'm with Rob on that one.

And this may sound cruel, but I have no pity for the Red Leopard (dead man's mistress). I feel bad for the child BUT she (and the deceased) brought him into the foolishness.

If these hadn't been sliced and diced I would have loved to have added commentary through Candace Delong about Imelda. CD hosts ID Network's Deadly Women which has featured episodes about teen killers. Some of the episodes tell stories that defy belief; the premiere episode was about three historical cases, including Erzebet Bathory. Here is her program's telling of the story of Darlie Routier, who slashed her own throat to avert suspicion of the murder of two of her children.

Pilar is another Mrs Robinson and totally deserved punishment for that, but not the death of her son.

Chevaun Camille, I agree about Juan. He is too good a guy to cheat on Fernanda, but she is too immature to see that yet.

And how about Elena leaving her children home alone? I don't know how old a child needs to be in Mexico to be left alone or in charge of a younger sibling, but in some parts of the US the minimum age for that is 15. Fede is an immature 13.

Yikes UA. Watching that link is incredibly shocking. I know mothers kill their children. You see it all the time in the Metro section but still....feeling nauseous right now. But you're quite right, the scenario...trying to appear like she was attacked as well by giving herself some superficial wounds is similar to the story in Por Amar Sin Ley...but Imelda's would looked much deeper. Ugh...the whole situation is just so depressing.

Thanks a million, Urban! That was yeoman's work.

"While religious and social propaganda tell us about sanctuary, it is conflict that often dominates Family Affairs..." So wise. I'm really getting attached to Christopher.

Glad we finally got to see Juan sing, and the first song was beautiful. But after that they could have snipped THAT little scene and given us more of the actual plot. SIGH.

I loved Neicie's comment the other day about Univision "running with scissors." If they fall down and stab themeselves, can we have all our episodes back?

The real case in which Imelda's is inspired was very controversial; psychologists and body language specialists, etc. analyzed the behavior of both and the mother; there are videos of them giving statements in the trial, and the coldness shown is surprising, especially by Érika (Imelda)

Until today, it is assumed that independently that the law condemned Diego (Vicente), Érika was not innocent and of course it was impossible for her to remain in the city living a normal life, she moved (I think to Canada), she is married but has no children, she does not talk to her family; and Diego remains in jail, studied and now teaches his jailmates, and his sentence for good behavior was reduced. He even married (with a fan -¡yes, because he has a fan club!-), and had a son.

I read about that and looked at some videos on Youtube. This case is so outrageous one always has to say "You can't make this shit up."

Don't even get me started on women who marry men with long prison sentences. That is a sickness of its own, even in this situation.

I agree that Imelda has cold eyes. This actress could easily be cast as the younger sister of Irina Baeva in some future novela.

Alejandra seems to be going down the Path of Stupid right now. No way should she be on the rebound to anyone, especially Carlos. It would almost be a good thing for her to be pregnant by Ricardo if that would prevent this but it should not be necessary.

Good call on the resemblance of Imelda to Irina Baeva UA. You'd make a good casting director.

Televisa usually notices such things and I think they work on this. I did weekend articles on that in the past where I pointed out that Helena Rojo and Adela Noriega were mother and daughter twice and when Isabella Camil and Ilithya Manzanilla looked like mother and daughter, etc. but I can't find it.

I'm wondering if it didn't make the index.

Say it isn't so! I must defend my honor!

Would that be the article titled "Weekend Discussion: Photo Gallery; Family Album, Volume 1" http://caraycaray.blogspot.com/2014/12/weekend-photo-gallery-family-album.html

It is indeed on the index, but you've done so many, I'm not surprised you couldn't remember the title.

Alejandra had Rick as a rebound too, for when Carlos failed her the night prior to the wedding. Their relationship went way too fast when she started going out with him. Also, she didn't have the nerve to cut off Carlos from the root either, mostly because she was torn between the two men (as opposed to her lame excuse that she felt bad he was in jail). With a mother like Paula, how the heck did she end up being so flimsy?

If Elena had a babysitter the night of Rick's godfather's wake, why didn't she have one yesterday? The writers are intentionally making her mess up to lose custody.

Anon1146

Anon1146--I think she has done it before or he wouldn't have questioned her about leaving the kids "alone" even with a nanny. Where is the nanny and the maid I've seen in the kitchen occasionally? Ni modo--I hope the kids tattle on her. If it's Fede, Ric will have to believe him, since he knows Nati is already biased and might exaggerate.

Urban, thank you for this recap. I can
Honestly say I did not like this episode. It was a travesty of justice
From start to finish.

First that trial With emelda & pilar was a Disgrace to justice everywhere. Her son is dead and even tho the stupid guy that did it deserves some prison time, the mother(and I use that term as loosely as is possible) only cares that no one Finds out that she was nasty between the Sheets with her skank of a daughter's Boyfriend. And then that dog goes to the jail and brags on how she got away with it.(is that where the technical problem is?) I was lookin forward to reaing that part. And then those 2 bitches Hop in the car and drive off carefree.
And pilar don't seem to be torn up about The lose of her son while she protects That poor excuse of a daughter. Who Takes after her. That's just wrong. Its Gotta be fixed. Just like they fixed The taxi trail of a travesty they need to Not let those two get away with this crime. Justice was not done. Pitiful.

Iam more and more not liking Carlos. His armor has fallen off as far as I'm
Concerned. And I was feeling this way long before this trial. He can do right, but he don't want to. He wants to win at any cost, and it don't hurt that he can hide behind the law and do
His dirt. And he plays ally like a fun
Fiddle. She is not gonna know what hit her When it come down.

It's good rick cut her loose for now, cuz he's got a drunk mess to deal With (loonylena).

How long is the office lady Trollope gonna Stay away from office tramp? She
Tells him to leave but does she mean it?Iam so done with these 2 incredibly stupid people.

Thank you Urban. You done good with what you had to work with.

What are "widow's weeds"?

OMG, Gracias, Kat! I could not remember when I did that article, either; only that LQLVMR had to have been in progress. I've not done much with weekend stuff because of the double duty on PASL and the previous ones.

Anon1146, Alejandra didn't jump in too soon. A few days after Carlos was arrested she and Paula returned all the wedding gifts. She was done with Carlos but Alan guilt-tripped her into giving him hope while he was in the slammer. She waited too long after he got out and he knew how to play the Nice Girl in her.

Anita, Elena thinks she's home free with the restraining order. She thinks Ric won't find out, but he will. I'm sure of that.

Irene, I knew you would hate this episode! No prosecutor and mother and daughter sociopaths with a lawyer who is actually no better than they are. I am also wondering how Pilar went from the woman who screamed at the sight of her dead son to the cold fish she is now if there is more to that than her merely worrying about ugly secrets getting exposed. She has to be a seriously disturbed woman for Imelda to be the way she is. I wonder whether they will be back for more mayhem later.

Nina, "Widow's Weeds" was the term for black mourning clothes. In the 19th century US it meant that you dressed like Queen Victoria, as Scarlett does in GWTW.

Carolina's bare-shouldered number would be a cocktail dress in NYC.

Ally tried begging off the dinner invite She just didnt try hard enough. Shes back where she started not telling carlos they were over. And now
She bounced back to Carlos.Rick should
Just leave her alone and concentrate on getting his kiddies away from loony
Moma. Drunk loony moma. I think Rick
Would believe nattie cuz she seems to want to hear what he has to say more than Fede does.fede tends to levitate
Towards moma. Maybe because he don't have an example of how a man is really suppose to act and moma knows best. Not

I actually need a spinoff novela with Imelda & Pilar (as the Imelda & Pilar characters), where they show up in their new town and Imelda sets her sights on the galan. People in the town have heard about Imelda & Pilar but the galan doesn't believe Imelda would do anything like that. Our young protagonista is investigating the Imelda/Vicente case and falls in love with the galan. Imelda & Pilar do everything they can to stop the truth from being discovered etc.

I'd watch it.

Federico had a WTF look on his face as Elena left with her date. Like, you're keeping us from Dad because he's dating Alejandra but you're going on a date with some random dude. Natalia has already smelled the BS, Federico might be getting a whiff too.

Okay...finally got to watch part of this. What a transformation in Juan! When he sings, he morphs from a socially awkward- mama's boy- overachieving dweeb into an....HOMBRE. Wow. The man can deliver a song and then some. Amazing what confidence can do for a fellow and the actor, deservedly, has great confidence in his singing ability and talent.

Enjoyed the scene as well as the sadness and conflict in Fern's visage. Normally the gal being serenaded either wears a fatuous, enamorada smile or is busy pouting or throwing a bucket of water on the singer. This scene was very well done IMO.

Urban, you are a real-life superhero to provide us with two recaps! I don't know how you managed to do this on such a short notice. Thank you for taking one for the team!

As always, I am awed by your talent. You managed to describe this trial so perfectly and analyzed the behavior of everyone involved in such a clever way!
And your masterfully chosen screen-grabs managed to convey Imelda's personality to a tee.

I very much enjoyed your take on the two women in the hospital:
"A red-haired woman whom the French would describe as jolie-laide followed in a state of panic"
"The redhead picked up her purse and left the nasty, slutty-looking blonde to cry her own tears, real or not".

I totally agree with you, these two are both sluts. I personally couldn't care less what happens to either of them.

Irene

This guy that plays Juan & serenaded fer sings in a band or used to. He has a beautiful voice. I looked him up, I think thats what he did before he started acting. And there are videos of him and his boyband.

I am not going to overanalyze this trial and how absurd it is that Carlos, the defense attorney of Imelda, a person suspected of murder, was prosecuting Vicente, the other person suspected of the same murder.
However, I just have to mention the fact that Vicente's defense attorney's closing statement consisted of vehemently asserting that his client is innocent even though his client confessed on the stand that he killed the child and stabbed Imelda. In the US, a lawyer like this would have been disbarred for inexplicable incompetence.

The drug lord that used Gisele has got to be either the dumbest or the unluckiest drug lord in the history of drug trafficking ever. The guy lost 3 trunks and a suitcase full of drugs, for God's sake!!!
The whole idea of using young, clean-looking women, with no criminal record and unaware that they are transporting drugs, is that they are not going to raise suspicions and are not going to get caught, so the drugs, which cost a lot of money, will safely reach their destination.
If your clean-looking, unsuspecting mules keep getting caught time after time, maybe it's time to understand that drug dealing is not for you.

I am sick and tired of this disgusting storyline of Gustavo winning Isabel back. I guess a plate of noodles and a movie are almost enough to make one forget about a year of infidelity, sex tapes, humiliating trials, divorce and trust issues.
All Gus needs now is another emotionally blackmailed outing to get her in his bed again. "McDonalds has free fries Friday and you know how Louisito loves fries" will probably work just fine on her.

Irene

P.S: Univision, how could you do this to us? You made us watch nameless receptionists look admiringly at shoes every second episode and you didn't think to cut that (or the countless scenes of Juan dining with his mother) but just when things were finally getting somewhat exciting, you decided to commit a chainsaw massacre of the poor episodes that weren't that great to begin with.

"If your clean-looking unsuspecting mules keep getting caught time after time, maybe it's time to understand that drug dealing is not for you". Lol
That is so funny Irene. Maybe he can
Be a lawyer, that's a step above drug
Dealing in this tn. Pitiful.

Irene--Chainsaw massacre. Excellent choice of words. The Patio needs to put it in a folder and keep it for occasional use.

I wondered about the police who surrounded the car Giselle was in and discovering the haul of drugs. For a moment I thought they might not be cops at all, or at the very least crooked cops--as in not all the drugs got turned in. How did they know she would be driving that car to that location. Hmmm, Mexican telenovela police actually working leads, investigating and being pro-active? Could be.

I recently listened to a program on NPR regarding the Baltimore Police Department, not so long ago had a gang of police that made a practice of robbing drug dealers of their drugs or doing home invasions, taking the drug dealers' money, planting guns and drugs on people and ended up sending many young men to prison, both the guilty and the innocent. They were finally caught. The participants slapped on the wrist or allowed to retire. But now, hundreds of their cases have to be reviewed.
