Corazón Que Miente, Week 8 (7/23/18) - Monday Kickoff: Odd Couples

Fabricio oozes into the family festivities, festooning the Ferrers with fabrications. Oh, yes, of course he's a lawyer, the hombre de confianza of Renata's dear father (QEPD), who by the way had gargantuan real estate holdings on which it might be good business to...erect a couple of hotels? Dem's eyes are obscured by cartoon dollar-signs and he can't do enough for the slippery snake.

Mari quizzes Cristian about Date Night. Cris says Liso was so nervous you'd think he was robbing a bank instead of going to a movie; he practically checked under every chair to make sure he didn't see anyone he knew. Mari says it's early days, but Cris grouses that at this rate they'll have their first kiss when he's 75.

Alone with Renata, Fab drops the mask: clearly Ren's got her eye on her hunky cousin, but she can't very well marry him until she divorces you-know-who...and he's not inclined to play ball unless he gets half the windfall. "It's a big cake," he tells her. "You can't eat it all yourself." Anyway, she still owes him for all the jail time he put in...and he's guessing her family doesn't have any idea what really happened to her Dad.

Noe and Elena are set upon by their respective spouses, who raise a huge ruckus on the street corner. Rog drags Elena home and slaps her around, while Amalia refuses to believe Noe when he swears there's nothing going on.

Mari can't believe Lety is suddenly sweet on Julio: is it sincere, or did she do it out of spite? Half and half, Lety admits -- but he's the only guy who's ever treated her well, so she might as well give him a chance. By this she seems to mean a chance to improve himself, mostly by getting a job as an "office boy" at Sefiro & Lisandro's boutique law firm and maybe getting a suit that doesn't make him look like a giant sausage. He may not want to put up with this treatment for long, especially after he's introduced to the new receptionist, i.e. Florencia.

Santi starts his new job at Quadrum, and it hasn't improved his mood. He calls Al on the carpet for breakfasting on company time, then admits he's in love with his brother's fiancee: so what? He throws Rafaela out of his office, although she takes him about as seriously as a puppy with a chew toy, and then hires a hacker to decrypt a secret file he found on the company server. So many interesting projects.

In other news:

Elena forbids Julio to have anything to do with those awful Moliners. Apparently she used to work for them, too, but she won't share whatever drama is getting her eyes all googly. Daniel tells Julio to go for it, though -- he already has someone named El Chino(?) to take over Julio's sacristan duties at the church.

Carla's snoopin' leaves her droopin' after she eavesdrops on a telephone call that ends with Ed sending un beso to his amor.

Al tells Liso that Mari seems secretive and also way too upset about Leo leaving town. Liso assures him that it's all above board, honest. (Sigh. When all this goes South, nobody's going to be speaking to anybody.)

Ed makes a petulant scene at the launch party for Hidalgo & Moliner.

Cirila convinces Amalia to try to make Noe jealous by spending time with an imaginary boyfriend. (Just when you thought that whole thing couldn't get any stupider.)

And in the cliffhanger...

Rog calls Dem from Bluebeard's to tell him "their man has arrived." We only see him from behind and he looks like he's wearing a wig, but he's got hold of one of those tarts who dresses like a Catholic schoolgirl, so we're pretty sure he's a bad 'un...STAY TUNED

Thanks, Blue Lass.

Wow! That was a good surprise about Renata and her “hubby.” I got a kick out of his comment about being there to stop her from comitting bigamy. We have two grifters for one! Of course, I will not be upset if they both manage to do a job on Demián. I am hoping for it!

Santiago has to grow up and not always fall for the same girl as his brother Alonso. The kid had a problem before he had his accident.

Thank you, Blue Lass, for another great bunnycap!

Whoa, Ren has a hubby. And she's still sporting those pirate boots. Wait till they find out the Ferrer's treasure chest is empty. Arghhh, mateys!

Who wants to bet that Ed is Julio's father??? Elena's reaction was waaay too strong.

Does Julio have a chance with Florencia? It did not go unnoticed that they were making eyes at each other, sort of.

“Arghhh, mateys!” Is a good one, doris!

Thank you, Blue Lass. This was more like a jackrabbitcap. Ay de mi, more offspring who might be related. Isn't this the stuff of telenovelas, though?

Was expecting a prior relationship between Ren & Fab, but married? Wonder why they married? Was it so she couldn't testify against him? And whatever did they do? He couldn't have been in jail for too long, they both are still quite young--or at least Ren is supposed to be barely out of puberty (maybe 20 or 21?)

Didn't the back of the "man who arrived" look like our good policeman? He's the only one left Dem hasn't tried to corrupt and for whom it would be useful to blackmail?

Can't wait for tomorrow!

Cirila convinces Amalia to try to make Noe jealous by spending time with an imaginary boyfriend. (Just when you thought that whole thing couldn't get any stupider.)

Amen to that Blue Lass. This is a side story I absolutely loathe. Just stupid stupid stupid.

And Anita, I too thought that Ed might be Julio's father. Which would certainly make a crush on Florencia a potential drama. Unless Ed's good wife was unfaithful also. Ah, the possibilities!

And yes, also thought the back of the head was the honest police chief....who's about to get set up for blackmail. Sigh.

Oh well, we have Demian's financial undoing to look forward to at least. While everybods love stories go south.

Muchas gracias as always clever Blue Lass. You write with style.

"We have two grifters for one! Of course, I will not be upset if they both manage to do a job on Demián. I am hoping for it!"
A two-fer! LOL and looking forward to the ladrón que roba a ladrón.

Ladrón que roba a ladrón! Yes!

Capybara (that’s a BIG rodent) for Tuesday, July 24: Lotsa plotsa!

The Moliner moppets are super-sad that Daddy ruined their party. Cristian arrives at just the wrong time with a cheery gift bag, and Liso goes ballistic and chases him away. Cara de so impactado de Cris that *all* of our lower lips are trembling. Mari can’t explain the whole episode to Al without betraying Liso’s trust, so she acts even more secretive. Al, meanwhile, insists that Cris take over Santi’s swimming lessons but won’t tell her why. Seeing Lety with Julio causes Santi to become wistful, disrupting his surly feedback loop long enough for him to actually be almost polite to Flo.

The brothel’s mysterious visitor does indeed turn out to be our (formerly) Uncorrupt Policeman – good call, Anita and Judy! -- who seems to have a predilection for gals who say it best when they say nothing at all. The ensuing cootchi-cootchi is so lame it’s practically a PSA against illicit sex. (“Don’t do it! No one can dance and he’ll leave his black socks on!”) Rog is on hand to take incriminating photos and set up a drugged champagne gambit that “accidentally” kills the low-key party girl. Rog pockets the UP’s fingerprint-laden eyeglasses, rolls up the body, and insists he’ll handle everything. The UP drives off like a bat out of hell and manages to (literally) run into…

…Amalia, stepping heedlessly from the curb on her sad way home from her pretend date with her imaginary boyfriend. She is helped up, fed taquitos, and driven home by Cefiro, whose name I’ve been spelling wrong for weeks. (Thanks, Spanish subtitles!) She arrives back at the Del Rio homestead just in time to (figuratively) run into Noe, who’s blowing a gasket at the sight of his daughter canoodling with Young Elvis. Seriously, everyone on this show needs to switch to decaf.

Santi’s hacker delivers the decrypted file, which shows Quadrum on the verge of collapse. Santi confronts Dem, who turns on the fake charm and convinces Santi that they need to fight this fearsome financial foe together, based on all that great teamwork they’ve displayed in the approximately three days they’ve been speaking to each other.

In other news:

Sara and Daniel agree that Dem’s personality transplant is probably not a match and may be rejected.

Leo turns out to be treading water in a Mexico City hotel, waiting for the inevitable wedding disruption (does *he* have a bingo card?) so he can rush in and save Mari. Meanwhile, he lets Denise drag him back to bed.

Liso goes to the hospital to apologize, but a wounded Cris does *not* accept his apology.

As for Noé:. What is good for the goose...

Santiago has Demián by the short hairs . . . so to speak. Let us hope he realizes it and tells the partners/shareholders the truth,

Rogelio was on a tear. Can’t someone run him over?

With Leonardo circling the situation from a hotel, I suddenly cannot wait for the wedding!

Gracias, Blue Lass!

Thank you Blue Lass, for the bunny cap and the snark! (I hope I will be able to watch this episode.)
Favorites --- "surly feedback loop" and the characters needing to cut back on their caffeine intake. 😊

Wow...not in a great mood today (family worries) but your bunnycap had me laughing.

"Moliner moppets"

"seriously, everyone on this show needs to switch to decaf" and

Sara and Daniel agree that Dem’s personality transplant is probably not a match and may be rejected.

Great lines, funny, witty, you got me smiling Magic Lady. Thanks!

PS As annoying and self-victimizing as Denise is, she deserves better than the hapless Leonardo!

JudyB - you are so very correct about Denise, but she is doing this to herself. As the old saying goes, " there are very few true victims in life; most of us are willing volunteers." Same goes for Elena, IMO.

Bunnycap for Wednesday, July 25: The Boda of Damocles

Right when the melodrama-meter should be ratcheting up to defcon mucho, we get an episode in which nothing much actually happens. For the most part, everyone just continues doing what they’ve been doing in a way that does nothing to advance the plot: Noe fumes, Amalia glares, Lety frets, Santi moons, Cirila mugs, Liso equivocates, Cristian sniffs, Rafaela snarls, Dem plots, Rog smirks, Al & Mari bat their eyelashes at each other and Carmen orders up a big plate of dessert.

Actual events are few, and unsatisfying:

Mari coaxes Santi to make peace with Alonso and then lies to Alonso about it afterward. Que…?

Rafi overhears Dem on the phone saying “what do you mean DEAD?” and “dispose of the bod-“ and demands to be looped in. And…?

Al and Mari have a big ol' Tom-Jones-style fruit-eating party and night of passion in the hotel suite he reserved for the following (wedding) night. Eh…?

Mari then lies about that, too, telling her 37 homegirls that there was an emergency at the clinic, even making up a fake patient with heart trouble. Why…?

Santi asks Dan how he can both love and hate his brother, and Dan tells him he loves his brother but hates himself – and that’s you-know-who’s fault. So…?

Denise begs Dem to keep Leo from attending the ceremony for everyone’s sake. Um…what?

Rog finally puts the screws to the Previously Uncorrupt Policeman and hands him the gun used to kill Luci. Por…?

Well, tomorrow should be exciting, anyway. Take it away, Anita…!

Blue--Thanks for the babybunnyrecaplet. It was tiny and sweet and set my ears atwitching. I'll have a chance to watch later this evening--in prep for tomorrow. You have earned a well-deserved rest, my dear. Don't know about taking it away, so much as taking it down.

How can Mari keep on lying to Al? Once he finds out, he will feel deceived, no? His trust measuring-gage will plummet and Mari will wonder why--it was all for innocent reasons.

Cannot wait to watch!

Oops! Forgot something important: Dem gets Fab hired into Liso's old position at Ed's despacho. If he's NOT really a lawyer, how long can he fake it?

Yeah...and how ridiculous is it to hire a lawyer without checking references!!!!????? Quick, phone Emilia, ask for another heavy duty beanie.

Thank you Blue Lass for the bunnycap! True that not much really happened beyond the accidentally murdered prostitute but it felt like chess men were being put into place for some real action soon. Well Mari and Al had their first noche de pasión. Oh, yay. 🙄

Is the fact that we saw Marisela’s wedding dress a sure sign of derailed wedding? Bodus interruptus?

And of Fan really isn’t a lawyer, he will probably channel that guy on Suits.
But, seriously, my beanie hat almost flew off my head because who hires a complete stranger so quickly?

Do people in Telenovelalandia never have lives? Weddings are organized in a matter of weeks. All the time. Does everyone ditch their pre-existing plans to attend? Gah!!! This never ceases to amaze me. LOL

Fab not Fan. I should never try to post from my phone. Gah.

Oh, and cutesy incidental/theme music again for Julio and Flor scene. Go for it, J!

Thank you Blue Lass. Yay! Wedding day! Tomorrow's episode should be fun. I wonder how and when Leonardo will land at the wedding now that Denise gave Demián the heads up. . Will he get arrested at the happy nuptials?

Jarifa, I'm with ya -- although after PASL, you'd think PERSON OF INTEREST BEING HANDCUFFED AT WEDDING would be old hat.

Blue Lass you lined us up for a humdinger of non-wedding. I hate what these parasites did but it will come out in the wash. And when it does all the Fungus and bacteria will be gone.

Hey y'all a question, in the closing credits, who is that woman in the blue
Dress that Mari's dad is talkin to?
She seems to be in Tears, and he's in distress. These People are always in
Distress. They're really in Distress now.I hate it when they get all dolled
Up and handsome for a wedding and all
The damnation of hell falls on them.
And the cocka roaches and rats starts to drink to their successes at happily destroying someones life & happiness.
Ohhhhhh but them bastards & bitches R
Gonna get theirs.

That wedding was put together rather
Quickly wasn't it? He just put a ring on it about a week and a half ago. I guess when you're telenova rich snap your fingers and bam, wedding preps
Ready.

Good bunnycap Blue Lass, thank you much.

One of my two bingo cards has DERAILED WEDDING. Squeee!
