Corazón Que Miente, Week 10 (8/6/18) – Monday Kickoff: Black is the New Black (Sorry)

Episode #46
*Still at the velorio, Ed and Karla see the hug between Liso and Cris. Ed gets up to do something about it, but Cris melts away. Outside, Al catches up with Leo, Carmen and Mariela. He comes right out and asks Leo if what Mari says is true, that Mari didn’t marry him because she’s in love with Leo and they are lovers. Leo’s head is spinning—in the direction of Mari then back to Al. He sees the distress in Mari’s face and affirms that they’ve been lovers for a long time. Al still doesn’t believe her. Juarever, he wishes it had been for a different reason. Carmen is gobsmacked because she knows the truth.

*Sefiro comes back to his police-taped office. Padre arrives at his request. Sefiro tells him how responsible he feels for Flo’s death and how the witness Martin Vallarino fits it. Padre is now gobsmacked because he definitely knows how Vallarino fits in.

*Leo wants to know why Mari said what she did about her reason for not marrying Al. She tells him she doesn’t want to talk about it. When pressed, she says she wasn’t sure she wanted to marry Al, that's all. Leo suspects there’s more.

*Ed and Karla walk through their empty house and empty lives. Karla remembers Flo’s last words to her.

*The velorio is over and the funeral service is in progress. Then they take the shrunken coffin to a niche in the columbarium for interment. Everyone present is left with his or her own thoughts. When Liso leans his head on Ed, Ed moves away. So sad.

*Al watches Mari leave. He and Liso have a big bro-hug. He’s there for Liso.

*Rafie speaks to Ed outside. She’s willing to be by his side in his time of need, knowing full well she’s only good for a romp in the hay. She wants him not to leave her alone either. Dem comes to get her.

*Cris asks Liso what he wants to do now. Liso isn’t sure. Maybe dinner.

*Julio mourns next to Flo’s niche.

*Mari tells Carmen she couldn’t bring herself to tell Leo the real reason for the derailed wedding. She knows he’s declared his innocence many times, but the police have the goods on him. Carmen asks her is she’s sure the police were telling her the truth. She admits she doesn’t know what to believe. When asked, Carmen tells her she has no idea if Al and Ren are going together. She tells her she can never be with Al, so it’s best she forget about him and move forward with her life.

*Dem and Rog stroll into the house office and talk about Ed. He’s quite vulnerable now; lost wife, lost child. They must keep him in control and they have to move quickly.

*Al and Ren are talking about “them.” He swears he’ll overcome his feelings for Mari. Ren says tell that to his heart. She does like it when he says she’s the right one for him and he’ll give her everything.

*Sara and Santi have a heart-to-heart talk. Santi feels responsible for Flo’s death. Had they been married, she would never have been working in that office. Sara says things didn’t work out that way for a reason. Santi is still angry he’s stuck in the wheelchair. He tells her he’s decided to have the spinal operation.

*Dem receives a visit and a couple of punches from his brother-father Dan. Dan calls him an killer. The scuffle brings the whole household to the office. Once separated, Dem says that idiot should never darken his door again. Dan dares Dem to tell them why he got pummeled. When he doesn’t, Dan leaves.

*Leo considers Al’s words about him and Mari being lovers.

*Liso asks Cris to stay the night—as a couple. Viewerville gets a close-up of two sets of lips getting closer—then we break for commercials.

*Ed comes to Karla looking for sympathy. He’s very tender with her. She rejects him. She tells him it’s his fault Flo is dead and Liso is gone. He refuses to take the blame. She points out his selfishness and narrowmindedness wouldn’t allow him to listen to his daughter and it alienated his son. She throws him out (of the room, but maybe also the house).

*Sara challenges Dem to give her the real reason for the fight. Dem says Dan is crazy and if she wants answers, she should ask him, whom she holds in such high esteem. She reminds him that in throwing Dan out, he was throwing him out of HER house. He answers that he’s lived there so long, in peaceful co-existence, that it feels like his house, too.

*Fr. Superior gets another visit from Dan. F.S. wants to know what is it this time? Dan says he’s found out that someone very close to him has done things that can’t be pardoned. He can no longer be a priest. F.S. asks him to think about it, reflect on it. Dan says if he finds out who the criminals are, he won’t be able to behave as a priest should. For the time being, though, F.S. will remove all parochial duties from Dan.

*Al visits Santi in his room. Al tells him how Ren rejected his request for her to become his novia. Santi says Al doesn’t need her. Al thinks he does. They talk about the fight between the brothers. They decide it must be something really serious.

*Julio tells Liso they are brothers. That was why he felt like he’d known Flo all his life. Liso and Julio decide to BE brothers and support each other. Bro-hug.

*Ren wants help from Fab to set her up in some swanky super good place at the beach so she can get to work on Al, at least for a weekend. Fab agrees. (Here we go, folks, Telenovela Trope #26—Get the subject drunk, so drunk he passes out then when wakes up the next day the perp tells him he sent her to the moon and has the 8 x 10 selfies to prove it.)

*Antonio talks to his investigator. He learns Leo is in financial trouble.

*Leo tells Mari the same thing over dinner. Mari wants to help, but not as his “mujer,” at least, not yet. She needs time. Leo is good with that. (This is a veritable Euwwww moment.)

Thank you, Anita, for your recap! I have had a chance to watch yet.

"*Ed and Karla walk through their empty house and empty lives." Very well said, Anita.

Aaaand....the plot moves forward. Now that Fr Dan has de-frocked himself, he can be our super hero. Hopefully he won't get himself killed in the process.

Thank you, Anita.

A lot to like in this episode:

Mariela and Leonardo doubling down on the lie to Alonso.
Florencia being “ shelved” rather quickly so we didn’t have to spend another whole episode on her demise.
Renata having Alonso right where she wants him and arranging a little beach vacay before she reels him in.
Not a slapfest but a slugfest with Daniel the aggressor against that slime ball of a bro Demián!!!!!!!!!!

I hope Daniel does resign so he can do what he needs to do in reference to taking his bro Demián down.
If Santiago gets the spinal surgery, will it give him some backbone?
Sara should sell HER house and put Demián and his slimy self out on the street.
So Leonardo is happy that Mariela is going to think about him and his feelings for her? Somehow I do not think he is being honest. . .

"If Santiago gets the spinal surgery, will it give him some backbone? ---Good one, Jarifa, and we can only hope!

Daniel in the lion's den is what will happen when he isn't a priest anymore and goes after Demian.

Another clever, well-written recap Anita-- from the title to the last line. And some snarky comments too!

I'm in Crankypants Node. Cannot stand thE ridiculous lies that Mariela keeps maintaining.

And Leonardo is just too icky for words.

I am glad that Mariela's father, at least, has learned about Leonardo's precarious finances. Maybe he will step in to her life now. And hopefully derail Leo's ill-advised courtship plans. Find that whole sub-plot nauseating.

Did enjoy the "brothers forever" scene between Julio and Lisandro. But dreading the beach romance plans of Renata.

Can we please just skip to the happy ending?

Thanks Anita. Jarifa, you're wound up today!

JudyB, the episode was inspiring!

Hey folks. Thanks for continuing to show up at the Patio. Apologies are due this time. I'm actually *watching* the episode now. I'm so used to just listening and writing down what I hear that I don't always see what is happening and don't always hear correctly on first (and only) pass.

So, I got several things wrong in the recap. Guess I was in a hurry to get to the two lips getting closer or Mari ending this stupid line of reasoning. But the gist of it was on point, except for one thing:

Dem and Rog were not talking about Ed and what he lost. They were talking about Sefiro. He lost his wife and two daughters. He wasn't clear on whether they are deceased or not. Neither do I know what this portends when he claims he's vulnerable and they have to keep him in check. Ok, now I'll go back to the episode.

Anita, the recap was great as it always is. Your recapping this novela is appreciated.

A great recap. Thank you Anita! I dont know how many more episodes i can take of this stupid “in love with Leo lie.”
I cannot wait till the final episodes for this.are we about halfway through at this point. Naturally we have to get through major frustrations in
All these trlenovelas but for some reason this particular one bothers me immensely!!!!
Cambiando de tema......The way they cut off that KISS scene before lips touched made me think that maybe Lisandro really wanted to take this part in Corazon, but on condition that they he wouldn’t have to shoot real kissing scenes or at least not have them last more than a second. ( he is def not gay on real life).

Episode #47–Tuesday: Denise arrives to save Mariela-Pt.1
*Elena tries to talk to Julio. He doesn’t like being the son of Ed, but would have liked to have had a chance to know he had TWO great sibs.

*Cris and Liso have spent the night on the couch, fully dressed. (Hmm. Does this mean nothing happened after that near kiss we all saw?) Cris slips out and goes off to fix breakfast. He’s prepared quite a spread for someone who looks like eating is the last thing he wants to do. Before a single bite can be chewed, Ed rings the doorbell. He’s nasty to Cris right away. Liso does the right thing and tells his dad Cris is his boyfriend and he’s gay. Ed tells the two they are a pair of degenerates and Liso is dead to him. He leaves and the two men comfort each other. Liso tells Cris he feels much better after coming out to his father.

*Ren and Rafie have breakfast. Ren has Al where she wants him and assures Rafie she knows what she’s doing and what her next step will be.

*Dan gets a visit from Elena. Julio is sad. Very shortly before Flo’s death, she had to tell him Flo was actually a sister. Cara de impactada de Un-Padre Dan. She tells him the story. He tells her he’s leaving, maybe only temporarily, but he’ll speak to Julio.

*Santi and Sara have breakfast. Santi is still trying to sow seeds of doubt in Sara regarding Renata. Sara thinks she’s behaved decently with Al, even turning down a noviazgo because it was too soon. She admits there is something about her she doesn’t like. Santi says she’s up to something and she’s not to be trusted. He urges Sara to trust her own intuition. Sara says, yeah, and look where it got her with that pervy Mariela.

*Al joins Ren for breakfast. She tells him of the sweetheart deal a friend of her father’s told Fabricio. It involves some land of his she stands to inherit. She wants Al to come with her for his expertise. He likes the idea. He’s ready to ask his father to come with, too. Ren nixes that. Oh, and they’re going as friends and all the arrangements have been made.

*Mari and Leo are out for a joyous bici ride. He explains away his relationship with Denise...they are civilized adults (whatever that means). They finish their ride and are back at the house. She has something in her eye. Leo will help. No, no—turn your heads away, avoid the creepiness. Whew, Denise has shown up. Leo gets a hand-delivered face slap for leaving her in limbo while he’s back here enjoying life. He tries to tell her he was mortified and just couldn’t take it. He asks forgiveness. She hugs him.

*Ed comes back to the house and to Karla who is still mourning in her bed. He tells her about Liso and how he had deceived them for all this time—that he liked men. Karla takes it well. Then she turns on him. She tells him they are the ones who deceived, living on Ed’s high principles, moral standards and love of family. She calls him a hypocrite. He failed on all fronts, especially the moral one, since he has a lover. Ed denies it. She slaps him and calls him names. She wants him out of the house that very night.

Tuesday-Pt.2
*Dan comes to see Julio. He’s out of advice, though. They just have to trust El Jefe. Julio ponders why, then, is Flo’s killer still on the loose. He swears if he gets ahold of this guy he’ll kill him with his bare hands. Dan is sure the killer will fall—sooner or later. Dan urges him to dial back his rage. It won’t be helpful. He should seek out his brother to love each other and support each other. Of course, he’s talking about his relationship with his own brother. Julio recognizes Dan’s dilemma, but not the object. Dan promises to stand with him. They are ALL brothers.

*Fab and Lucy, Ed’s secretary, are about to commit desk desecration. He needs to get into the archives, but Ed forgot to give him the key. He was asked to get some things out for him. He’s so convincing, she agrees.

*We watch a homeless man wrap himself up for beddy-bye with cardboard and realize Rog is also watching. Rog approaches, picks up a rag, wipes off and dumps the gun that killed Flo next to him.

*Leo goes into his studio and puts away his paints. While Mari listens just out of visual range, Denise tells him he’s out of money. Why is he here in this podunk town when he had the whole world in his hands. It’s about Mariela, isn’t it. Can’t he see it’s clear Mari doesn’t want him? Leo says until he hears it from her, he’s not leaving.

*Al checks in with Santi and Dem at Quadrum regarding this land that’s soon to be Ren’s and the possible opportunity it offers. Santi smells a rat. Dem thinks it’s interesting, but it needs to be checked out. Santi volunteers to come with him. He’d like to know who the friend is. Al wants to go by himself.

*Carmen and Mari wash, rinse, repeat Leo’s involvement in Luci’s death and Mari’s breakup with Al. Carmen tells her it’s time to move on. It might turn out she has a chance with Leo.

*Rafie and Karla talk over iced-tea. Karla has washed her hands of Ed. She doesn’t even care who his lover is. Ed texts Rafie. He’s so pitiful. He wants to fix things with her. He must see her. She tells him later, gator and covers the messaging telling Karla it was important business.

*Our Re-Incorruptible, Corrupted Officer Preciado gets a visit from Rog. He tells Rog he’s had enough of him. He thought his “debt” was paid. Well, Rog tells him he has information on Flo’s killer. He knows who it is. He smiles enigmatically and leaves.

*Rafie receives Ed as an unwelcome visitor at the office. He’s so pitiful. He’s all alone. Karla is asking for a divorce and his son is now as dead to him as Flo is. Rafie calls him a coward, a fraidy-cat. After the tongue-lashing, he’s willing to see Rog dead. Rafie insists on knowing WHEN. She can no longer stand to be in Rog’s arms (er, grips). Ed says he has to pay for what he did to Flo. He refuses to give her any details or she would become an accomplice.

*Mari finds Leo at the cemetery, visiting Luci’s tomb. She asks him to swear at her tomb he didn’t kill Luci. He does. He prepares to kiss her. She prepares to be kissed, but Luci speaks to her through her heavenly chorus and she turns her head away. They leave hand in hand.

*At Bahía Costa Alegre, Al and Ren have fun in the surf. Later, Renata has fun with Al at an evening picnic. His hands and mouth are all over her as the sun sets in the west. In the pool that night, Al tells Ren he wants to spend the night with her. She turns him down, but not off. She tells him what he’s supposed to hear—that she’s not a one time thing; she’s a forever thing. At least he’s up to his chest in cold water and won’t need a cold shower tonight.

*Leo finds Mari crying in bed. He asks what’s wrong. When she looks up, it’s Al caressing her face. Oh, Oh.

Amor--Please bear with us, even if it's only to kvetch about the Leo-Mari line of idiocy. I don't think we are even half-way through this. I'm guessing Ren gets a ring and maybe gets all the way up the aisle with Al, but... will Santi tell Al she bedded him first...will she die after the wedding or will Al have to get a divorce?

Who is going to get pregnant, Mari or Ren. If it's Ren, has too much time gone by for it to be Santi's? Ay de mi, questions, questions.

I don't know that Emmanuel had to put it in a contract that there is to be no kissing between men. Were Mexican tn audiences ready for this when it was filmed--a real love affair. I'm guessing plenty of Latinos have seen films on this theme, though. Have you seen La Otra Familia, with Jorge Salinas and Luis Roberto Guzman. They kiss and it's a love affair--they even get married. It's a great movie, with a wonderful little boy in the middle of things.

Thanks, Anita. “Luci speaks to her through her heavenly chorus” was the best. A kiss in front of one’s deceased wife’s tomb gave me the double creeps. 😉

Anita, I did a little research and from what I can find, it looks like this has 70-75 episodes depending on who is doing the counting. So we could be in the home stretch sooner rather than later.

What an episode filled with information that characters would rather not have..

It certainly was not a good day for Ed. I liked even Rafaela giving him the brush off until later. Let us see if he does manage to kill Rogelio. If he doesn’t, somebody has to soon, p,ease.

Renata is so sly. Even Santiago could see through the business trip ruse.

Jarifa--I don't want to see Rogelio "offed" until he has a long and painful exposure to all on what his crimes have been and who ordered most of them. We need Dem to get his, too. I wonder, though, taking the easy way out, Dem and Rog take each other out in a big shoot-out. It wouldn't be the first time bad characters have the rug pulled out from under them before the Patio is satisfied.

I don't do Karmageddons, but I'm sure we can come up with some clever ideas on how to tie up loose-ended Rog and Dem. Renata just deserves to not get Al nor Santi, have her exposed, along with Fab, as a couple of grifters and end up having to watch Al and Mari in wedding bliss.

Thank you, Anita, for this sassy snarky recap.

Rafi texting while having a convo with Karla sure is a sign of these times, and we alI know how Karla felt. #annoyed

I don't think anything happened between Liso and Cris. Cris had more class and character than to take advantage of Cris in his moment of grief.

Okay, I'm confused. Does Ed know Rog was the one who killed Flo?

Major ick factor with Mari almost kissing Leo. Just ... eeew.

Doris--Now I'm confused, too. Will rewatch the scene and get back to you.

URGENT MESSAGE ABOUT ED--
Doris pointed out something I misinterpreted when recapping. ED does NOT know Rog had anything to do with Flo's death. Ed was sniveling to Rafie in her office that he would make Rog pay for what he's done to the only one he loves.

I ASSUMED he meant Flo and wrote it that way. He was really talking about Rafie and referring to blackmailing them and exposing their affair if Rafie didn't sleep with him. He's such a creep.

Who would have guessed Ed would put Ms. Roll in the Hay before his daughter and tell her she's the only one he loves. The rest of that scene passes muster.

Ugh...was just writhing through most of this...the episode not the recap! The recap was great. Favorite quips:

Cara de impactada de Un-Padre Dan.

desk desecration and

kiss interrupted as "Luci speaks to her through the heavenly chorus"

In addition to just being grossly irresponsible and inappropriate, I thought Leo looked like a total dork in his bicycle helmet. That alone would have made any romance impossible for me, shallow gal that I am. But jeez...just NO, I hate this storyline.

On the other hand rather enjoying Renata manipulating her way out of "sadder-but-wiser-girl" into "forever girl" territory. Skillfully done, the little minx. Plus, I must say Alonso seems to be a pretty soft target after all.

Eduardo is reprehensible and horrid in every way, and yet I couldn't help but see a little injustice in Karla ordering him out of the house. The guy paid for it, didn't he? I didn't get the impression that she had ever held a job, nor that it was HER house, in the same way that Demian is living in Sara's house.

Oh well...so it goes in telenovela land. A lot to kvetch about.

Thanks Ms. Anita!

Thanks for the clarification, Anita.

JudyB - good point about Karla ordering Ed out if the house. I hadn’t thought of that. This is the nice thing about the Patio!

I mostly feel Karla’s pain of Ed’s unfaithfulness (just wait til she learns about Julio —- caray!), losing her daughter after she moved out (thanks, Ed) and got a job where she was murdered, and Ed declaring Liso is dead to him. She has earned that house, IMHO.

I keep wondering if the Mari-Leo ick factor is due to casting, or how the story is written. There is nothing truly illegal or immoral about the basic idea. Sad sack Leo just makes it creepy. He was never even her legal guardian, was he? Other actors with a slightly different story floating around the concept might not feel so sleazy.

Doris, I'm with you more now about the casting having something to do with the ick factor. I have liked Diego O. in so many other tns, I'm wondering if being somewhat creepy was part of the script he had to interpret. I would like to have seen him and Luci together a little more to dispel the ick factor and more as a decent romantic love interest. Denise doesn't help matters here.

Episode #48–Wednesday: Liso grows the spine-Pt.1
*Mari sees Al caressing her face in bed, but recovers her senses before something really icky happens. She sends Leo away.

*Sara and Santi are still dining. Santi has an appt. tomorrow with the doctor. He’s more worried about the Bahía affair than his operation.

*Al is wandering about on the sea shore, thinking about Mari’s last words to him—she’s in love with Leo. Ren checks in with Fab. Their plan is in play. She hopes Joe can pull it off. Al is pretty savvy and won’t fall for just any old gimmick.

*Julio stops by Liso’s place. Liso just can’t see going back to the place Flo was killed. Julio says they can help each other. He is able to persuade Liso to come back. Liso says he’d make a good lawyer.

*In Bahía, Joe arrives. He’s an Al look-alike, except he has a terrible Spanish accent and a terrible English accent as well. He showers Ren with undeserved compliments for Al’s benefit. He certainly has his role down pat. They go off on a yacht to see “her” lands. He makes his sales pitch. He hits his mark. The deal is almost sealed, in between a couple of rounds of golf. Al’s eyes glaze over, as he thinks of the money, but also the prestige. Ren says the money is not important. Doing something beneficial is more important.

*Santi and Lety talk about Al and Mariela. Santi is sure he still loves Mari.

*Liso and Julio arrive at the office. They’re pretty broken up, but ready to work.

*Mari asks Denise about Leo’s whereabouts. She doesn’t believe Mari has “those” feelings for Leo. Mari says she does care for Leo and Denise can’t be judging her. Denise tells her she’s just playing with Leo’s feelings.

*Sefiro tells Dan the police called and they found the killer. They go together. The family assembles in Preciado’s office. He tells them the killer is a homeless alcoholic and drug addict who wanted to rob Flo. Dan steps in and says that can’t be true; the police are lying. He starts a ruckus and demands to know how much he’s being paid to lie.

*[Editorial interjection. I guess Almita and Noé’s problems are no longer needed as filler, eh?]

*Dan wants proof. Preciado says they have the gun and the suspects fingerprints are on it (although the Patio did NOT see Rog transferring the fingerprints, just wiping the gun clean). His assistant indicates the tests show it was the gun that killed Flo. Liso steps into the commotion. He thinks the real killer is Demián Ferrer and tells his family why he thinks so. He says a witness they had found, Vallarino, was the real target. The shots weren’t meant for Flo. He turns to Ed and accuses him of being implicated in this whole affair of defrauding Mariela of her land. Karla turns on Ed and asks if this is true. Ed manages to look properly offended and shouts back that no, it’s not true. Dan wants the whole thing investigated. Preciado, cleverly turns the attention away from Dem and back to the vagabond.

Episode #48–Wednesday-Pt.2
*Santi gets his wish. Operation tomorrow (but what about all the tests?) and Mari will be in attendance. Sara tells Mari that was against her own personal preference.

*Ed chases Karla out of the police headquarters. He tells her he also wants to find the real killer. Karla says if what Liso said is true, she won’t rest until she sees Ed behind bars for the rest of his life.

*Denise tells Leo they have another chance to get out of their financial crisis, but they have to go to live in California. Leo says he’s not leaving, even if he has to sell the manse, until he and Mari work things out. (I think that blanket-sweater making its reappearance has made him ditzy.) Denise calms down and tells him Mari doesn’t love him the way Leo loves her.

*Sefiro visits Mari at the clinic. He tells her about the witness to the falsified testament, Martin Vallarin, who showed up. He had been willing to help them. He’ll keep her informed on any developments. She asks about Liso. He mentions Leo’s bro, Julio. Ooops, slip of the tongue, but true.

*Dem is dictating to Marcia. Ed bursts in, seething. If Dem had anything to do with Flo’s death, he’ll...Dem cuts him off. If he had known about Vallarin, he would have been the first to warn him. After all, they are both up to their necks in smelly doo-doo. They have to be there for each other.

*Al and Ren return all happy-happy. Al tells Sara he was very impressed with the deal. He’s anxious to get his pa and his bro together with Sara to reveal the details. Sara says he’ll have to wait. Santi’s operation is the next day.

*Carmen and Leo talk about how he’s playing with Denise’s feelings. FF>>

*Denise is getting a rejection for Leo’s work from the city father. Back home, she struggles with the accounting. Leo shows up to talk. She doesn’t want to. He stops her on the stairs. He knows what she’s done for him. He is who he is because of her (or his success, that is). She tells him she won’t leave him until his economic situation gets better. They hug.

*Mari visits Liso at his place. He presents Cris to her as his novio. She’s happy for them. They share wine. Liso tells about his confrontation with his father. He wants to make things right. Cris leaves. He has rounds. Mari persuades Liso to go out with her. Liso tells her he’s sure Demián had something to do with Flo’s death. She shares that it sounds just like her grandfather’s death. She’s sure Dem had something to do with it, too.

*Ed sits in his car outside Elena’s house in the dark. He goes over in his mind his unmasking by his son. He’s drinking. He sees Rog arriving. He starts his hybrid car engine, puts it in reverse and hits Rog and knocks him down. (Of course this can’t be the end of Rog, but is probably the end of Ed, unless he can make a clean getaway. I bet Elena finds Rog and delays calling 911, just so he can suffer some.)

Thank you for another great recap, Anita! (and the snark!)

Santi needs to be more worried about that Bahía stuff than his operation. And ... just … wow ... how many people have non-emergency spinal surgery the day after signing up for it? And pre-op tests? Um…. telenovela beanie hat time! Wheeeeeee!!!

”In Bahía, Joe arrives. He’s an Al look-alike,” Thank you. I thought I was seeing double for a minute.

Leo’s hand on Mari’s knee was yet another icky creepy moment. Eeew.

Ummm, Almita & Noe who? LOL!!!

If Rog survives, I can mark off Unsuccessful Murder attempt on my Bingo card. Hmmmm..... dead Rog or "Bingo!". It's a real moral dilemma.

Maybe Ed will get a DUI before the night is over. Or crash his car into a wall. Or over a cliff. Whatevs, things are not looking good for Ed right now.

Will Denise ever wake up and bail on her love for Leo?!?

Good thing Santi does not live in the USA where his health insurance would have to pre-approve his operation. Or maybe the Ferrers pay cash? None of that annoying paperwork associated with health insurance claims?

I think the Ferrers pay cash. It's simpler that way. Question--IS there health insurance in Mexico? Even if there is, does it cover the poorest of the poor or only the richest of the rich....

Anita this is a slap happy episode. Fun recap.

The slap happy part is when padre Dan
Puts off his holy robes to beat the crap Outta his crooked brother. I hope he does find out who did what to who cuz Demwit seems to be counting his days. It's like he's thinkin about the
Mess he's made because of greed but he
Can't stop himself. Jerk.

Is Leo the guy that's into artwork? He
Is the one who thinks He has a chance with Mari? No I don't like that idea at all. She needs to be with al. And
Speaking of al...that woman he's stuck
With for the time being...I can not stand the sound of her mousey voice.
How can he? Isn't she married to some body? When is he gonna find out about that? Oh yeah after shes knocked up &
He finds out about the crap his daddy
Pulled.
I was taken back by al's grandmother's
Attitude towards mari,but she believes
The lie that Mari had for not Jumpin the broom with al. And She was their biggest supporter wasn't she?

Omg rod found a homeless guy to set up for the murder of ed's daughter. A bum
Sleepin on the street. Jerk#2.(rog not
The bum).
I saw him hit rog, looked like he ran over him again but the picture faded.
He's murdered so many people, it's his
Time to depart. Ed might get away with
It. All he has to do is plead that he was under stress from the death of his
Daughter. In soap/tn world that could work.

Thanks Anita

Thank you, Anita. Good comment about no more need for a filler.

The grift moved along quite easily and smoothly.

Denise should just leave on her own. She would be more than happy to be Leo’s consolation prize. Carmen gave Leonardo a good lecture but he is only thinks about himself. Denise needs some self-respect.

Tomorrow is the surgery and maybe two surgeries if Rogelio is not dead and was severely injured.

You got to love those silent hybrids.

I wonder if Demián is starting to feel the dogs nipping at his heels. If Rogelio is out of the mix, he will be even more vulnerable.

More on ---”de dientes para afuera”
Today, I asked my student (from Mexico) about this phrase, during our ESL conversation tutoring session. She said all our comments (below) were pretty good, but its more popular meaning and best example is when one pastes on a smile and talks and acts nicely to someone they cannot stand.
For example, pasting on that smile and being oh so polite and nice to a relative (MIL? or DIL?) or co-worker, boss, or client/customer one cannot stand is hablar “de dientes para afuera.” We've all been there, done that, and got the tee-shirt.

So it seems not quite as strong as “lying thru one’s teeth” or “speaking with forked tongue” but pretty darned close if the behavior and words belie the person’s true feelings toward the other.

From last week, our collective interpretations were:

- "era de dientes para afuera" to talk about the parents/family being hypocritical. It's such a
powerful visual image.

- In effect, to do and say things "de dientes para fuera" is a most Mexican thing, it is a combination of "paying lip service" and having double standards.

- The dientes para afuera: not really, without real intention.

- the idea that when we run into someone and we say "let's get together for lunch sometime", while we never really intend to do that.

Jarifa - "You got to love those silent hybrids. " I heard, maybe a year ago, there is a movement asking that hybrids make a " beep---beep---beep---...." sound so that people know they are backing up and don't walk behind them in parking lots. Might be a good idea!

Oooh, and nobody mentioned today's gratuitous shirtless scene, not to mention those low-slung pajama bottoms. LOL

doris, it probably would be a good idea. I think it would be strange to have a car that made no noise.

Thanks Anita. Enjoyed the episode this time, just because it was fun to see Sergio Mayer playing a gringo. He did manage to sound "off" in Spanish, and of course equally "off" in English, but that voice is unmistakable. And that guy never seems to age.

Also of course loved Eduardo backing over Rogelio. If he's dead, he won't be able to betray Demian of course. But hopefully we'll get the goods on the evil one somehow, some way. But probably not till towards the end. In the meantime, if they go ahead with this real estate scheme of Renata's (which I totally don't understand) it will certainly be his financial ruin.

And laughed at this:

*[Editorial interjection. I guess Almita and Noé’s problems are no longer needed as filler, eh?]

Well, I certainly hope not. That was the stupidest side plot ever. And depressing.

For some odd reason, I'm still getting a kick out of Renata's sneaky maneuvers and her devilish smile when she leaves Alonso hot and bothered and not gettin' any. He deserves to twist in the end for moving on microseconds after the breakup IMO.

Thanks Ms. Anita. On the ball as always.

Hey All--I got a few things a little off, but still the big picture looks the same. Nina, you are right. In visually reviewing the episode, I noticed that right at the end, right after Ed knocked Rog down he revved up the car and started to back over him. (I'm sure we'll see the rest tomorrow.)

Hmmm. I really don't want to see Rog punished without everybody pointing an accusing finger at him while alive. Maybe he'll be incapacitated for the foreseeable future with serious injuries and can no longer act as Dem's right hand goon. What will Dem do without someone else to pull the proverbial trigger?

Doris--Thank you for delving more deeply into that lovely phrase, "de dientes por afuera." In each example, there is a valid interpretation, but I do believe your student has the most precise one. Funny that this was the first time I ever heard it.

Great recap as always!!
Thanks doris for asking your student about “de dientes para afuera” i had asked you about that originally because i never heard it before and it isnt so easy to guess at the meaning. That particular kind of phoniness that you describe drives me totally nuts and we dont have any really interesting or clever expression to describe that.
There are several good PAY BACK opportunities for Rogelio, assuming he is not dead. Im betting on a very serious injury and lots of major suffering. Then again, if he cant communicate, he cant flip on Demian.
I doubt that we would see the end of both Ediardo and Rogelio this soon???
I too got a kick out of seeing Sergio Mayer as a gringo though i thonk the director or sergio did not do that english spanish thing Properly....i mean why would he have a bad accent in both languages? I mean the gringo spanish accent wasnt bad but the English should have been perfect. Anyway, i havent seen Sergio in a long time- i remember him from way back when he was boyfriend/hubby of the gorgeous Barbara Mori who played “Rubi” ( one of the BEST TNs of all time, watched all over the world)
YES i agree that Noe Elena Almita thing was a silly filler and glad we are (probably) rid of it!
So id like to know if any good TN will follow this one because there is NADA en the primetime slots...

"I mean the gringo spanish accent wasnt bad but the English should have been perfect."
I agree. That was annoying. I will always remember Sergio as 'Luigi' in LFMB, saying --- "Me da mimiskis!"
