Corazón Que Miente, Week 10 (8/6/18) – Thursday Update: Who Lives, Who Dies.

Episode #49
*After the “accident,” people from everywhere come running towards the victim on the ground. Ed runs away. He calls Rafie to tell her, but he’s desperate to see her. She doesn’t have time for him. Dem interrupts the call. They’re ready to go. She asks where he was the night Flo was killed. Dem says he was restless and went to a bar. He reminds her he’s never been unfaithful to her, but if he learns she has, she and her lover are road-kill. Rafie says, same for him, lover-boy.

*Rog is taken to emergency. Elena calls Julio. Ed is falling apart next to Flo’s niche.

*It turns out Dem is hosting a Quadrum Family dinner out to discuss the Bahía project. Santi asks about a business plan for investors. Mmmm, Al didn’t see one, but he can assure everyone it’s a solid deal. Sara gets a call about Rog. She passes the news on to Dem. Rafie asks no one in particular if Rog is going to live. When Dem and Rafie arrive at the hospital, they are told Rog is near death. We learn he’ll live (too bad), but he’s seriously injured. No one can see him. Al wants his dad to leave. Dem wants to stay. Rafie stays with him.

*Santi wants to call off the operation. He tells Lety he has too much to do in the office. She tells him he’s just scared and won’t let him call it off.

*There’s a silent dinner around Leo’s table. Mari and Denise set a date to talk the next day. Sr. Antonio Miranda shows up to break the silence. He just happens to want one of Leo’s sculptures. Denise takes charge and she, Antonio and Leo troop off to the studio.

*Officer Sanabria has just told Preciado he went to interrogate Dem, but he wasn’t there. Preciado has a conniption fit because he went alone and without telling him. He says Dem has nothing to do with the incident. Sanabria reminds him they were to cover all the bases. Preciado backs down.

*Santi has decided to have the operation. He’s stretched out on a gurney, curls loose on the mat. They take him away, very slowly. The family watches. Al catches up with Mari on her way to the operating theater and asks her to take good care of Santi. They *stare* longingly at each other while Ren *stares* with envy a few steps away. She interrupts. She sees through the longing stare and holds it up to Al. He swears Mari is in his past.

*Denise is happy Sr. Miranda has come. He has lots of money—purchasing some expensive pieces of other artists in Europe. They plan to ask him to dinner.

*Al and Liso meet for coffee. Liso has decided to tell Al he’s gay. Al takes the revelation extremely well, but wants to know why now. Liso says that he feels liberated now, with his own office, having it out with his father. Al guesses Cristian is in the mix. Liso also admits that his relationship with Mari was a sham, to help him cover up. For some reason Al is relieved.

*Sara is in the chapel, praying. Ren stops by, but to prey, not to pray.

*Antonio meets with his investigator. He’s following up on Mariela’s past. He’s found out about Demián and how he and Mariela’s grandfather did not get along at all. Antonio then learns about the land, Mari’s inheritance, the hotel, etc., but she is certainly not wealthy. They agree something is fishy.

*[I knew it. If I mentioned Alma and Noé, they would turn up again like two bad pennies.] Yes, they show up at the hospital, concerned about Santi. No, they haven’t reconciled. Lety gives them a piece of her mind.

*Everyone is still hanging out at the hospital where Santi is. There’s word. It’s too early to tell if he’ll walk again, but the operation was successful. (Huh?) Well, they have to wait for the inflammation to go down. Meanwhile, in a different hospital (we now believe), Julio and Elena wait for word on Rog. Rafie calls Elena, asking on behalf of Dem, how Rog is. Of course, she wants him to die.

*Sara asks Renata to forgive her for judging her so wrongly. Renata says she’s the one who should be asking forgiveness. It was never her intention to offend, but where she came from, things are much more liberal. Fab shows up. He asks for Dem. When he catches up with him, Dem asks him to help him with the Bahía project, since Ed is a little out of sorts.

*Un-Father Dan is comforting Liso. Dan talks up Julio’s intelligence and other virtues. Liso intends to be there for Julio. Oh, BTW, did Dan know about Rog being run over a couple of days ago? He’s in serious condition.

*Dinner with Antonio is firmed up.

*Ed has found a place to flop (Rafie’s gift from Ed?). Her furious knocking rousts him out of bed. He admits he doesn’t have the killer instinct. She tells him Rog isn’t dead yet.

*Liso goes to visit Julio. He asks about Rog, but gets down to the real business at hand. He wants Julio to go to school for office administration and take over in Sefiro’s office. He’s being wasted as a messenger. Of course his salary will be adjusted and he’ll continue to work while he’s in school.

*Mari shows up at Santi’s bedside. He welcomes her. Everybody else stares. Dem steps forward and calls her a 2nd class doctor. They don’t need her there.

*Elena shows up at the foot of Rog’s bed, calling his name. He looks pretty ugly. He stretches out his hand to her. She’s horrified and flees the room.

Thank you, Anita! It was an action-packed episode. I think we are past the half-way mark of episodes.

”Ren stops by, but to prey, not to pray.” Good one!

Alma & Noe = FFWD->

Sort of odd that Antonio showed up at Leo's house, unannounced.

Rog's face looked like a bit of overkill. More like FrankenRog. Eeew. I just really wanted him to call out Rafaela's name when ANYONE was in that hospital room with him.

Now to stay tuned to see if Ed expired or simply passed out. Must see TV.

Thank you, Anita. “Ed has found a place to flop.” ”Ren stops by, but to prey, not pray.””Un-Father Dan”: all made me laugh.

doris, ITA about using the old FFWD on anything with Alma and Noé, especially Noé.

Why was Elena so upset about Rogelio? She should have been celebrating his possible demise and her freedom. At the end when she ran from the room, I am hoping she keeps running. They did a good job on making Rogelio grotesque.

I love the nerve of Fabricio wheedling his way into the hospital to grift on!

Anita good recap. I didnt see this from the beginning. I thought about rog gettin an asphalt facial, isn't he
Beautiful? Ugh. He hasnt begun to pay
For what he's done.

Santi still likes mari, even if she's not with his brother again yet? Kinda
Surprised dem-wit didn't try to keep Mari Out of the operating room.

Stuff that made Me laugh:Ren stops by to prey, not to pray. That made me smirk at the fact that she's a friggin predetor.
Ok here's another one:"Ed is falling apart near Flo's niche", I assume her
Ashes.thay knrcwaz funny,lol.
Un-Father Can:-) After he exposes the murderers he will hopefully be Father Dan again,Kinda like that priest thats
On Pbs on Sundays.

The only 2nd ass citizens in that room Is Demwit and ren.
Ed looked like he hit the bottle after
Giving rog a asphalt facial. Rogs face
Looks like somebody got overjoyed with a sewing machine.

Thank you Anita, this was right nice.

Un-Father Dan
I assume her Ashes, that made Me laugh.
I hate typing mistakes.

*Sara is in the chapel, praying. Ren stops by, but to prey, not to pray.

Definitely the winner for today, but there were lots of dandies, already mentioned. And let me add "conniption fit" which I haven't heard in ages, but is a jewel.

I did enjoy the Frankenstein effect the surgeons did on Rogelio. I suspect he fancies himself as quite the "guapote" and this will not fly well.

Renata is a skank but she's a skillful skank. Now has Granny Sara eating out of her hand.

Hmmm...could we see Mariela's father as a possible love interest for the doleful Denise? Something or someone needs to get her off clinging to Leonardo's feet. Unlike the patio, Cirilla seems quite smitten with Leonardo. She can have him!

Thanks Anita. A lively read as always.

I think one of the problems with Leo in this particular TN is that his acting skills either disappeared or maybe he is supposed to be a total monotone! I mean he has no expression in his voice. He in no way endears himself to the viewer— at least not this one!
I think if Rogelio recovers, he will be blind. That will certainly limit his evil due diligences! Now we only have 4 or 5 baddies left to take care of!!
Ditto on the cleverness of PREY and PRAY!! I think Renata was super well cast.

Episode #50–Friday: Zipperface talks, sort of-Pt.1
*The doctors have zipped Rog’s face shut. Elena shares the ugly truth with Julio outside his hospital room.

*Mari talks back to Dem (regarding her 2d class medical status). Santi backs her. Sara doesn’t. Al is supportive until Ren pulls him away. Santi wants to be alone with Mari anyway. Once alone, Santi wants to know the real reason Mari broke up the wedding to Al. He’s known her since childhood and he knows that look in her eye when she sees Al. Her eyes can’t lie. Al’s can’t either, so fess up. He can see how she’s near tears. She can’t leave his room fast enough.

*Carmen thinks Antonio looks familiar. Leo says no way, he’s from Monterrey.

*Sanabria presents himself to “interrogate” Dem regarding Liso’s suspicions that he had something to do with Flo’s death (and repeats the accusations, including Rog’s culpability). Dem pleads very innocent. He calls Liso a deranged imbecile. In fact, he might even bring charges of defamation against him.

*Denise and Antonio see eye to eye about supporting the arts. She shares a bit about herself. Leo arrives. Ant wants to use the familiar form. Deni is called away. Leo shows Ant some of his personal sketches, many of Mari when she was young. Ant gets emotional. As he gets ready to leave, he suffers an attack of shortness of breath and seems to be in pain. He insists on going back to the hotel. In his room, he chooses one of three bottles of Healthy Water™ Agua. His investigator arrives. He sees Ant’s distress and calls for the hotel doctor.

*Still in the hospital, Al introduces himself to Cris. He’s Liso’s BFF. Menacingly, Al says Cris had better be good to Liso or else...then he smiles and thanks him.

*Lety stops by to see Santi. She’s a ray of sunshine after all those Ferrer family members he had to deal with. He feels very positive about the outcome of his operation.

*Deni can’t meet Mari for coffee. (So what?)

*Santi gets a visit from Dan the Un-Done. He’s happy to see him. [I fervently hope they don’t make Santi stand up by himself and walk without any support on Monday, the way they did Rogelio Montero.]

*Dem pops in on *his* Rogelio. He’s revolted by Mr. Zipperface. The doc comes in to see Rog and talks to Dem. Rog lost an eye and will need more reconstructive surgery later. He’ll be in the hospital several more days.

*Rafie urges Ren to accelerate things or she might lose Al to Mari in the end. Ren assures her she has everything under control.

Episode #50 – Friday - Pt. 2
*Mari is back checking on Santi. He reveals to her everything he knows about Ren. She’s playing the game of winner take all—and how she bedded him first, then threw him over for Al. He told his father, but Dem just pooh-poohed him and supported her relationship with Al over him. He’s desperate to get Al to see the truth. Mari thinks Santi should do that. Santi says he’s already tried and it didn’t work. Well, Mari says she can’t help. Santi says she can, by telling Al the real reason why she didn’t marry him. She tells him she can’t. There’s nothing more to say and she flees the room.

*Alma and Noé argue. She gives him a choice of suitcases to help him move out. FF>>

*Ed and Rafie are naked in bed. He’s confessing to her how he felt before he ran over Rog. He had a real high, but afterwards, he came down, hard. He’s sure nobody saw him.

*Rog imagines everyone laughing at him. He’s delirious, but sees clearly the license plate of the car that backed over him.

*Carmen gets Mari to tell her why she’s upset—-because Al already asked Ren to be his novia. Deni suddenly shows up and they argue. Leo is off drinking. Mari tells Deni that men don’t like an annoying, clingy, insistent, obsessed, needy, desperate woman (tied up neatly with one Spanish word: rogona).

*Elena is tearfully telling Noé about Rog. He tells her he and Alma are going to separate. Elena thinks it’s a silly move. She’s sure Alma loves him. He’d better hurry or it might be too late to patch things up.

*Dem is all finished looking in on Rog. Dan manages to get in to see him. When Dan realizes he’s hallucinating, he encourages Rog to continue by telling him he’s caught. The police know all about it. He killed her. Rog begs to differ. Preciado killed her, killed the prostitute. Madam Marta knows it. Cara de impactada de Padre-Minus-the-Collar Dan.

*Mari consults with Santi’s doctor. Santi asks Mari to find Al. He wants to talk to him. Al is in the hallway with not just a tearful Ren, but a real boo-hooing ho. She’s upset by all the things that happened to Santi, then there’s her father, etc. etc. He comforts her.

*Rafie finds a fully dressed Dem in bed at home. He tells her about Rog and his prognosis. So, she says, he’s saved. Dem opines that once he sees himself in the mirror, he’d likely prefer to be dead. He brushes aside the police officer’s visit when Rafie asks.

*Cris has prepared a candle-lit dinner for Liso and some unknown guest. It turns out it’s his mother. Karla hugs Liso warmly, but greets Cris, not so warmly and keeps her distance.

*Al and Ren share an intimate moment in the hospital hallway as Al talks about Santi and his feelings for his bro. He says he needs Ren, and not just for a night. He asks her again if she’d like to be his novia. Just then, of course, Mari finds who she was looking for.

Here are a few things to point out after watching the episode---
1. Does anyone think it strange that Rogelio's face isn't bandaged to the hilt? He's dangerously exposed to infection. Normally, a bang on the head or a knock-out punch to the face required enveloping the victim in gauze.

2. Did anyone notice Cris' horrendous clown shirt he was wearing under his white coat when Al approached him? Someone's fashion sense was really off--and mustard colored tights? Ricardo should have complained before getting filmed. At least the white coat covered most of the desgracia.

3. There were actually only two bottles of *healthy water* (not in Caps.) What I thought was a third was the reflection in the glass-mirror table top.

4. I should have described Fr. Dan as the Man of MANY collars when he visited Santi. How many layers was he wearing anyway?

5. Santi's very large hospital suite has two doors. I assumed one led to a private bathroom. His family left by the door nearest the bed, but the doctor used the far door, even though it also led to the hall. Oooops.

6. In his delirium, Rog actually says that Preciado can't open his mouth, though Madam Marta could. That ought to give the Un-Fathered one an idea.

Hi Anita...yes, I did notice Chris' horrible outfit...especially the mustard colored too tight pants. Ugh. Those and the red pants they sometimes afflict the actors with are horrible.

Medically, I don't care about Rogelio. (If Carlos were still alive and commenting though, I'm sure he'd have a lot to say.) I'm just enjoying how awful he looks.

Love your various sobriquets for Padre Dan...

*Santi gets a visit from Dan the Un-Done

Padre-minus-the-collar-Dan and

of course! the Padre of Many Collars clearly the winner!

Leo gets more and more not-worth-saving. All he does is drink tequila, brood and make icky moves on Mariela. The storyline is killing me right now. And only promises to get worse.

But the recaps are always good!

Thanks, Anita, especially for letting me know when to FFW.

So we have the classic end of a villain as ugly on the outside as on the inside with Rogelio as Anita so aptly described as “zipper face”. I hope Elena does not end up playing the martyr and being his “caretaker.”

Anita your observations were interesting. I wish I would have read them before watching.

Father Dan had a good visit with Rogelio.

From yesterday, Amotelenovelas, I think that Diego Olivera is playing Leonardo just as he is supposed to be: conflicted, blah and unappealing.

Riiight. If Leo was sexy and seductive it would really get complicated -- with Alonso fighting him for Mari. Instead, he just stands back, or falls back into Ren's clutches. Though, I can understand the fellow. He just keeps getting hurt when he tries to "go there" with Mari. Santi is finding the same wall. When oh, when will Dem be stripped of his power and his secret revealed.

Did someone say this has only 80 or so episodes? I hope we make it to the end without being revolted by anything Leo-Mari or Al-Ren do.

Yes, that was me. I sure am enjoying these shorter novelas. There are less throw-away sub-plots like the thankfully limited Noél/Alma story. . I feel like the writers are playing with the viewer with Leonardo and Mariela.

Anita I enjoyed the episode and your
Recap made it better.
"The padre of many collars", that's a winners.

I agree with you JudyB, Leo is a very
Depressing character, why is he even on the show? I don't know the actor,he is Very good at playing a troublesome and annoying character. I'd like him more If he played a good guy. He would probably Even look better, he always looks like hes under stress. He ain't bad lookin. It's the character he's playin.

Anita you know what? You right. I was also Lookin at rog's face, he should have bandages all around his head. Ive
Been around the medical long enough to
Know that he'd be fighting inffection
Right about now cuz he's exposed to all the germs around him. And all the germy people comin in There to see him. It looks infected now.Yuck! To the
3rd power.

The unfathered one could talk to the madam help her to see that truth could
Put her on the road of forgiveness with the Man upstairs.

I Love what Mari told deni all neatly
Tied up in One Spanish word(rogona).
Here's some words, he's not interested
Go A-way.

As soon as Mari comes around the corner, she sees al and ren in a lip-n
Tongue lock and it goes off. So Stay tuned for monday.

Thank you Anita. Snarkedly good :-)

Well they need to stop playin cuz it's not funny. It's yuckO!

Thank you for your sassy, snarky recap, Anita! Al your Pad Dan versions just crack me up!!!

I thought I had "obvious product placement" for my not-so-successful Bingo card (#9), but I cannot find "Healthy Water" agua anywhere by a Google search. Caray! It's probably a generic label made up by the studio. What I did learn from my Google search, though, and it reminded me of what my ESL convo student told me, is that nobody drinks the tap water in Mexico. I had forgotten her telling me that two or three years ago, and she is from Mexico City. She had told me they all drink the bottled water because it is safer.

So Rog lives, and I get to cross off "unsuccessful murder attempt."

I like how Carmen's mind has been working, ever since she laid eyes on Antonio. No doubt she recalls seeing him before!

Hopefully Antonio will not die before he outs himself, or at least has written Mariela into his will and 'splained all in that document.

Seriously, patio mates, who would sew up someone's face like that? Is this a beanie hat moment? Because that would leave some terrible scars for the plastic surgeons to work with. I also agree that his face should be bandaged at least with a thin layer of gauze or Tegaderm™ to prevent infection. Telenovelalandia + beanie hats = pear half brain floating in half-set jello.
On the positive side, Rog will be able to rock that eye patch very well. ☺
On someone like Alonso and his "duh" face, it would just look 'stoopid'. Come to think of it, Renata could wear an eye patch well. Between that and her pirate boots, she would star in yet another telenovela and be quite fetching as a villana. ;-)

I keep wondering if Rafi will go over to the hospital and finish off Rog.

* BTW, Tegaderm is awesome stuff for certain types of skin wounds. A pediatrician friend of mine suggested it when our son had some awful road rash from playing soccer. I've kept it in the house ever since, for those times the dermatologist has frozen off or scraped off suspicious looking stuff from my own skin and the area just would. not. heal.

Aw, gee, Captcha has been watching CQM! I had to verify bicicletas. LOL

Did anyone else see the promo for Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia . yesterday? Looks like it will start soon and I think I saw "Imelda" included in the promo shots.

Yes, I saw it. Interesting comment about Imelda being in the promo shots.

What will Dem do now without his killer man?

He fears Sefiro and Vallarin. Even Liso is sniffing around the land deal. Santi is growing a spine and too friendly with Mariela. Ed is shakey. Rafie is getting bolder. Un-Collared Dan is on the Warpath. Preciado, he's an unknown entity right now, but he should feel slightly liberated now that Rog is, well, slightly incapacitated.

Thanks, everyone, for all the priceless commentary these last weeks -- can't wait to get caught up! See you Thursday...

Mi Marido Tiene Más Familia-----I guess I now have the answer to my question from the other day about what's coming up on prime time. I'm disappointed because THE first one- Mi Marido Tiene Familia was not a favorite. Maybe they will improve this 2nd season.
Yes!! Marta is now our best hope! Go for it, Padre-Minus-the-Collar Dan!!
Despite how much I hate her villanous character, I think RENATA is one of the better actors in this novela (along with Demian, Santi, Liso and Christian.)
Has anyone heard about "Mañana será otro día" which stars Diego Oliveri and Angelica Vale? Will this be coming soon? This might be a good one!!
