Amar a Muerte, 11/27/2018, Episode 19: Invasion of the Black Moths OR Too Much Wabbit Gives Indigestion
Inside the dark cave, the
black moths fly around as we hear Beltino cry out. Outside Beltino looks at a
very dead Valerio and as the black moths surround him, he runs away. He wanders
around wondering how he is going to get out of there. Meanwhile, Alicia is at the
university looking for Beltino; she thinks something bad must have happened.
Barbara has Sammy sitting
on her lap as she talks to a client who is looking for a lost document. She looks
at Sami hoping that he sees something and stalls until she tells the man his
time is up. After the man leaves, Barbara asks Sami if he didn’t see anything;
and he tells her he was busy talking to Conchita. Barbara’s jaw drops.
At Camilo’s house, Valentina continues questioning Camilo about his book and transmigration. She asks if her father’s soul might also be lost and questions if the stories in the book are true. All she wants to know if she is going to find her father again.
At a restaurant, Karla wonders
why she is having coffee with a stranger. Leonchi reminds her that Cam wanted
them to talk. After he tells her about the man he used to be, she asks what his
punishment is supposed to be, but Leonchi doesn’t see it as a punishment. He is
trying to figure out why this happened to him and thinks there is a reason for
death just as there is a reason for transmigration.
Out on the street, Renata
is cursing Guille and tell herself she will never help him again. Meanwhile Guille
meets with Toño and tells him that the man he shot is never going to walk. Toño
chides him for trying to help the man and tells him to drop his drama…after all
the man doesn’t need to walk to continue working. Guille loses it and beats on
Toño for a bit; when pulled off of him, Guille runs off.
Out in the park, Juli is
selling tickets as she passes by a clothes stand and admires a dress. She looks
at the price, walks to another rack, and finds a blouse that she likes but the vendor
tells her the dress would look better on her and gives it to her for free
hoping that the dress will bring better luck to Juli than it did to her since it was the dress the lady vendor wore when she met the love of her life, but married someone else.
Renata arrives at her
office. Kayla tells her about the shouting match she overheard there at the
office but Renata is too upset to listen. She tells Kayla she hates Guille!
(and we hate him too!)
Guille is at home taking out
his anger on the punching bag as he recalls Toño shooting the man and seeing
the man’s family at the hospital.
Barbara sits as she looks
at the crystal ball. She misses Conchita, her granny, and wishes she had
inherited her psychic abilities. She takes a swig as she recalls Sami telling
her he was talking to Conchita.
At Camilo’s, Leonchi
comes back for Valentina who tells Camilo that Leonchi/Jacobo has become her
hero and savior. After Valentina gets in the car, Camilo asks Leonchi how
things went with Karla but Leo tells him they will talk later.
Juli gets home and Lupita
asks where she was. Lupita then asks about the dress so Juli tells her she
found it in the trash and wants to fix it up since a friend invited her over to
her house for lunch. Lupita is leery about Juli making friends and warns her to
be careful, but Jul complains that she is all alone and wonders if Lupita
doesn’t want her having friends. Lupita lets up and asks Juli about her new
friend so Juli tells her Valentina’s name.
At Barbara’s, Barbara
asks Sammy what the ball said but he avoids the question. She complains about having
to take care of Sammy for another night and tries to call Beltino but he
doesn’t answer.
Sammy’s mother worries as
Lady Death looks up at Valerio who is now stiff as a board. Meanwhile, Beltino
keeps walking trying to get a signal on his phone.
In front of her house, Renata
whines that she can’t even enter her home; she has no keys. Just then Frau
arrives with her keys and Renata wonders why Guille didn’t return it himself or
if he at least sent apologies (she still has hopes???). Frau replies that he
was just told to deliver the keys.
Guille sits in front of
the fireplace still rehashing the shooting and seeing the Castillo family when
Eva arrives and yells at him for not going into the office. Guille shouts back
that he is sick and tired of her pressuring him to go work in the office. They shout
some more until Guille walks off to his room.
Alicia is at home and Javi
asks for his father but Alicia can’t respond. After Amparo tells Alicia not to
worry and to have something to eat, Beltino enters and tells Amparo to get him
some mescal while Alicia whirls a bunch of questions at him about his
whereabouts.
At the Carvajal mansion, Leonchi
and Frau talk when Alirio arrives with Luci. Leonchi opens the door for Luciho
and tell her that as he sees her each day, she seems to get prettier.
Beltino gives Alicia a
modified version of what happened to him…he was kidnapped, beaten, and taken to
a cave but he was able to take a gun away from one of the men and managed to
escape. Alica questions how he was able to use a gun if he doesn’t know how to
handle one; so Beltino tells her he did what he had to do. When Alicia mentions
that she almost called the popo, Beltino tells her she shouldn’t do that; he
doesn’t like the popo.
At Camilo’s house, Camilo
feels bad that he couldn’t be present during the meeting with Carla. Leonchi
tells Camilo that he and Karla are very similar, but Camilo reminds Leonchi
that he was murdered whereas Karla took her own life. Leonchi insists that they
are the same because they both took the same train back to the world of the
living.
Karla is at a club. She
is confronted by a man who seems to be wearing a really cheap fake beard and
wig. After he tells her that women usually don’t frequent the place, Karla
tells him she is there to gamble.
Leonchi and Cami talk about
Valentina reading the book. Cami tells Leonchi that Valentina wants to believe
that she will see her father again. After Leonchi shares that he was really
touched by how Valentina misses her father, Camilo suggests that Leonchi should
talk to his family and tell them all the truth.
At Eva’s house Mateo questions
Eva; he wants the truth and asks her who gave her the info on the Cartel de los
Armenta.
Alacrán talks to his boss
and assures him that he will be very pleased with the article that will come
out the next morning. The boss tells him it better be good because he’s already
getting indigestion from eating rabbit. After he hangs up, Alacrán comments to
Gancho that their boss has no idea that he considers his rabbits as his family.
Mateo and Eva continue to
argue about how she got the info so she tells him that it as anonymously
delivered, but he doesn’t believe her. After Eva tells him that she is just trying
to protect him, Mateo shouts that no one has ever told him what he can or
cannot write…he is going to continue investigating the Cartel de los Sierra and
Alacrán whether she likes it or not…and she can go ahead and continue playing
her little game of threatening him with divorce.
At the bar, Karla plays
poker. When she wins a hand and a bunch of money, she starts to leave, but the
man doesn’t want her to leave; so she assures him that she will return the next
day.
Juli enters the
landlady’s apartment as she snores. She starts sewing when Lupita comes and warns
her that the landlady will run them off if she finds out she is using the machine.
Lupita then tells Juli to just hurry and finish.
Luci is in her dressing
room nekked as she thinks of what Leonchi told her when she got down from the
car…she thinks of their kiss. Meanwhile, Leo is also finishing up his shower. When
he walks over to the mirror, he sees his “old” self in the mirror for a second.
Barbara wonders where
Belt is. It is getting late and she doesn’t want to take care of Sammy for
another night. Meanwhile, Beltino is in bed thinking of the spirits he saw. He
has a flashback of another murder he committed: El Chino watches a pretty young thang as Alacrán tells him she is the
boss’s girl and El Chino needs to drive her around and keep an eye on her.
Later, at a bar, the bosses’ girl flirts and wants to dance but El Chino
refuses. After she walks over to some other men, El Chino goes to her, grabs
her from the waist and and tells her to meet him in 30 minutes. Just then Alacrán
calls and tells El Chino to let the girl have something to eat, then to take
her and shoot her in the head…and the boss wants proof that he killed her. Later,
the girl tries to get away, but El Chino catches up as he points the gun at
her. After she pleads with him, they kiss, and he pretends to start making out
with her, but when he turns her around he shoots her. Beltino dreams of the
girl telling him that “Death has it’s plan.” After he wakes up, he remembers
that the governor’s spirit told him the same thing.
Valentina is in the
kitchen with Silvina when she calls Juli. She wants to send someone for her and
asks for Juli’s address.
The boss of the Cartel de
los Armenta sees the article about his cartel; he is not happy. Meanwhile, Alacrán
smirks that his chick just made lots of points with him. His boss then calls.
Luci exits the house. She
expects to see Alirio, but Leonchi comes out to greet her since Alirio went to run
an errand for Valentina. Leonchi tells Luci that she is playing games and
trying to avoid him but deep down she doesn’t really want to. When he suggests
that they get along and that she should just admit that it would please her for
him to be her chauffeur, Luci tells him she has never met a chauffeur that is
arrogant as he is.
Valentina tells Silvina
to prepare a really nice lunch because her new friend is coming over.
As Leonchi drives, he
asks Luci if she will take long. Luci responds that she doesn’t know, but that he
is paid to wait. Leonchi then asks her if León was as distant with his
employees as she is is, so she tells him that León was perfect and a real
gentleman. As they continue to drive along, Leonchi spots a black SUV and makes
a sharp turn to confirm that they are being followed…they are! He tries to lose
them but another SUV cuts in front of him and he gets cornered. As the men
surround them with guns in hand, Luci panics and Leonchi tells her to remain
calm...the doors are locked. The men then shout at them that the ride is over
and order them to get out.

IMHO:
There are a couple of ways that telenovelas are much more realistic than Hollywood movies:
1) Sex (even fornication) leads to pregnancy in telenovelas. But then typically the knocked-up lady is so happy to be pregnant unmarried -- not sure that part is realistic. What do you think? Are Hispanic women in Mexico etc. thrilled to get pregnant unmarried?
(Of course for both Hollywood & Telenovelas, STDs are rare. I never saw someone show a Herpes itch. In Telenovelas at least a couple of times there has been AIDS (SIDAS). In Señora Isabela, an old-now Colombian telenovela, the cougar got AIDS. But the remakes (Mirada de Mujer & Victoria 2007) deleted the AIDS from the guillon.
2) Conscience & Guilt. I have only seen 1 Hollywood movie where someone felt serious guilt & had an accusing conscience over sin = an old movie with Edward G. Robinson (who played Dathan in the 10 Suggestions w/ Charlton Heston as Moses - no guilt there tho). As I recall in that (30's?) movie Edward G Robinson was an artist who ghost-painted for a beautiful a young lady who was not a good painter. She got the credit. He was enamored for her, but she scorned him & eventually he killed her. They did kind of El Cheapo special effects to show his conscience attacking him, like flashing lights. But usually villains in Hollywood movies have no conscience, no matter how many people they murder.
But in telenovelas, people may have consciences & feel guilt. In our Tuesday episode they really rang the bell on guilty conscience. We have Chino-in-Beltran tossing & turning in bed under attack of guilt. Then we have Guillermo with his guilt over the liquor store shooting (which doesn't move him to treat his gal Friday nice). I think this is the most severe guilt displayed w/ nagging conscience I have seen in any drama. (Amarte Asi came close.) In this regard the telenovela has realism; because guilt & nagging conscience are realities of life.
The wicked are like the troubled sea, when it cannot rest, whose waters cast up mire & dirt. There is no peace . . . to the wicked.

Another way that Telenovelas in general seem different from Hollywood movies is the role of the male protagonist. Seems to me that in general the male protagonist is not a John Wayne or a Clint Eastwood, not the omnipotent hero who inevitably beats up bad guys & out-draws them. So I donno what Leon-in-Chino will do. Could Chino re-enter his cuerpo long enough to waste the enemies? Then Lucia will wilt over his bravery? But what would they do with the cuerpos? Which reminds that Chino-in-Beltran didn't take care of the body of the Brujo/shaman. But pardon me for not yet being convinced that he died (in a telenovela it is hard to be sure that someone actually died - they have a way of coming back - I hope not another transmigration of spirit tho; how many can one plot stand?).
But it seems to me that good guy male protags get beat up by bad guys in telenovelas. This was startling to me when I started telenovelas with Los Plateados where the hero (Mauricio Islas) could not beat the Villain Emilio in a fist fight nor outdraw him. They are not America cowboy heroes.
So I have no idea where this plot is now going. Thus far it seems rather diffuse, several plot lines, not moving in a straight line advancing a romance with simple set-backs & advances.
I note how the moth girl Karla seems true to stereotype: the dog returns to its addiction vomit, gambling, even in her new body. The gambler is of course unscrupulous; in poker a firm rule is that you can bail out of the game at any time; nobody has a right to put on a song & dance about how you have to let them have a chance to recoup loses.

Good morning Patio and Kirby and thanks for the recap. Wow, lots more revelations of Chino's past. Lots of bad deeds to atone for is that is Santa Muerte's intent. Still in the dark about the reason for this transmigration of souls.

Oh, and BTW, I hopeo that dress looks better on Juls than it did on the rack, as I am not surprised the original owner’s man trap failed !

BTW, one little sissy punch does not redeem Guill, but it is a step in the right direction. And BTW, I really like Miss Renata. She is smart, spunky and pretty. I hopeo she is smart enough to jettison Guill after her excellent adventure. She is just adorable. She does pissed chick very believably.

Re thinking all this, I don't really like Barbara the FFT (not Fast Fourier Transform) Fake Fortune Teller, and I wonder if she will begin to see that with little Sami's 'gift' she could be a real one? And want to keep him rather than continuing to try to rid herself of him.

He is more concerned right now about his not so miserable plight than what is happening to Little Sam who he kidnapped, nor his dead Grandpa. And I do hope that somehow Valerio lives...maybe Lady Death just shocked him enough to put him in a state of coma or something similar. Oh, regarding the names, yes, even I have trouble remembering the names. I've never seen a TN with so many unusual names...sometimes it's even hard to figure out what the names actually are when someone addresses the person (e.g., Tiberio, Silvina, Alirio and I think Alacran's boss's name is Terecio, still trying to confirm that!)
I've been trying to figure out how Lady Death made her selection as to who would get whose body/soul. Maybe she chose EL Chino's body for Leon's soul so that it would be easier for Leon to attract Lucia's attention. And maybe she selected Beltran's tall, lanky, skinny body for El Chino since he was so obsessed with his own body..and she is teaching him a lesson about vanity?? This is just a far-fetched theory, but as Leonchi pointed out, there has to be a reason for the trnsmigrtion andthe subjects selected.

I don't think that Terencio (or whatever the cartel boss's name is) didn't know that the rabbit was Alacran's pet. I think he knew and did this deliberately to show Alacran that he means business. I also think he would not hesitate to do this again.
As for El Chino, he is now facing what he has done over however long he was working for this cartel but I have no sense yet of any true remorse for his actions. Regardless of whether he feels remorse or not, he has to pay for his actions.

Don't get me wrong, I am very fond of my dogs & I like to watch animal rescue videos on YouTube, & somebody taking care of a baby animal, etc.
But it seems to me that there is a type of person who does not care much for PEOPLE, but adores animals -- or plants! You may see a gangster movie, a mafia movie, where a ruthless thug who doesn't blink an eye on whacking people, yet gives meticulous care to his plants. Could be that Alacrán is one of this type of villain who cares nothing for people, but adores his rabbit. It is a casus belli for Alacrán to try to kill the patron eventually.
