Amar a Muerte, 12/26/2018, Episode 37: Catch me if you can....We Did

In San Antonio, Beltino continues his Oscar-winning performance and asks Fabián who Alacrán is. Fabián replies that Alacrán is a drug trafficker and that those men are his sicarios. They are probably after the same thing he is…they want El Chino. When Barbara asks what they are going to do, Beltino suggests that they invite them in for coffee! (Haha!) …and tell them in a civilized manner that there is no “El Chino” there. Barbara goes with the flow and agrees.
At the scorpion’s nest in Mexico, Gancho urges Alacrán to eat before he hands him one of Lupita’s flyers. Alacrán shouts with glee and is glad that the good news just continue to pile up. When Gancho asks what they should do, Alacrán tells him they will go grab Lupita and have a big party with her.

In San Antonio, Alacrán’s goons get off the truck with guns blazing and saying that no one is going to make fools of them. As they search through some trailers and find nothing, Beltino, Barb, and Fabián are escaping and running and crossing under a train. Fabián doesn’t understand why they are running if they have nothing to hide (is there anything that Fabián does understand?). When he suggests that they just wait until the goons are gone, Beltino tells him to go ahead and stay, he and Barb are leaving.
At Armenta’s place, Armenta rushes down the stairs and tells his goons to take care of the soccer player’s widows. He wants a house for each one and lots of money…enough that they won’t ever have to worry about it. They also need to locate Alacrán so he can make mincemeat out of him. And the most important thing…the bouquet of flowers for Lucía…which Hernan assures him was delivered.
I don’t know, Lucy, this one has potential, and he has more money than Johny !
In Lucía’s office, Johny points out that going to dinner with Armenta is pure stupidity, but Lucía feels that she has no option. When Johny wonders when Lucía was going to tell him about it, Lucía explains that Armenta urged her not to say anything. Johny doesn’t want her to go and suggests that they call Montilla. Squirm worm. Lucía warns him not to even think about calling Montilla, she wants to do things her way as much as possible. Johny is bewildered and wonders what Lucía is thinking since she is dealing with a Mafioso who kills people. As opposed to Johny who...wait, I am not following the logic about killing people. Lucía assures him that she in not agreeing to anything. she is just accepting a dinner invitation. Johny advises that if she goes to dinner with that man, Armenta will assume that she is interested in him. Lucía doesn’t think so because that type of man doesn’t ask permission to do things. Just then, Rosalva, the secretary, comes in to announce that Jaramillo and the other men have arrived. Lucía tells her to bring them in before telling Johny that they will talk later. After Johny leaves, Lucía talks shop and asks about the numbers for ratings on social media.
At cemetery, Camilo and León/Chino/Jacobo (LCJ) stand in front of León’s grave. LCJ assures Cami that the burial site was covered with flower petals before. As he rants that he actually did see them, Cami doesn’t know what to think and tells LCJ not to yell. LCJ recalls the night he was there crying and seeing the flower petals. As he turns to look at Cami, he sees a smiling Death Chick at a distance. He then recalls seeing her when he was still alive…she was down in the garden looking up at him. LCJ stands beside Cami and tells him not to look right now, but when he tells him to do so, Cami should tell him if he sees a lady in black standing behind them. When Cami looks, there is no one. LCJ wonders if Cami thinks he is going crazy.
Juls arrives home only to be chided by Me-la-Gross who tells her that this is a decent home. What? You think she slept with a boy? If you only knew. :-) As she continues, Lupita comes to the rescue and asks Juls how things went. Lupita and Juls then go to the next room to talk away from the Chismosa (gossiper). Once alone, Juls tells Lupita that the party was incredible…lots of waiters, food, wine…and best of all is how the people were dressed with such elegant and impressionable clothes. Lupita notes the look on Juls’s face and wonders if she met a young man, but Juls denies it. She admits meeting a guy, but the one she had a good time with was Vale. Juls is very happy that they came to live in Mexico.
At the Carvajal home, Vale goes looking for Silvina who is at the poolside. After she asks Silvina to bring her some juice and a pill, Vale thinks about how Juls looked when she arrived to the party, touching Juls’s face…almost kissing her, and waking up beside Juls. Vale feels frustrated with herself and wonders what is going on with her feelings. Viewerville might know.
At Cami’s house, Cami offers to give LCJ a ride, but LCJ refuses and tells Cami that he found out that Johny had Fabricio follow him…that is how Johny found out where he was living. Cami doesn’t understand why LCJ living with him would be wrong, everyone knows they are friends and the house is more than big enough. LCJ agrees, but has been thinking about moving out. When Cami wonders where LCJ is going to move to since his salary is nothing to speak of, LCJ tells him not to underestimate him, but Cami just can’t see him living in a small room when he is used to living in extravagance. Cami then reminds LCJ that he wants to talk to Santos. LCJ has called him, but Santos doesn’t answer. He will keep trying.
At the scorpion’s nest, Gancho thinks Lupita will recognize his voice, so he tells Mugres to make the call. Lupita is at work when she receives that call. Mugres tells her that he has spotted the man she is looking for, but wants to be compensated. Lupita agrees to give him 1,000 pesos, so Mugres gives her an address. Once she hangs up, Lupita asks Perlita for an advance on her pay. When Perlita asks if something is wrong, Lupita tells her about the call she got. Lupita wants to arrive earlier at the address to make sure the man wasn’t lying, so Perlita advises her to not go alone…she should take Panchito with her. Lupita doesn’t want to involve Pancho and insists that she will go alone. She won’t take long.
Renata arrives at work dragging her feet and dreading having to see Guille. As she moves sloooowly toward the elevator, she watches as a young man surprises his girlfriend with flowers. Once she gets to her desk, she stares into Guille’s office as Mayela approaches and gets her attention. Mayela has 3 things for her: to give her thanks for organizing the party, to give her a gift of appreciation…and Mayela wants Renata to let her know when Guille arrives. After Renata agrees, Mayela walks away and greets a man who congratulates her on the news all over social media. Meanwhile, Kayla arrives with coffee to cheer up Renata who feels like she is in hell and hopes that the coffee will at least bring her up to purgatory. Renata then tells Kayla that someone brought her a gift (Mayela’s gift to Renata)…but Renata won’t tell her who brought it for her. Kayla is super excited. (Instant regifting)
Outside, Guille arrives and is hounded by reporters who want to know about his new girlfriend. Guille avoids them and tells them to respect his privacy.
In San Antonio, Beltino, Barb, and Fabián make it out of the woods. Fabián wonders how they were able to make it out of the woods so easily, so Beltino explains that he and his wife went out for a walk yesterday and they learned the path out. Fabián then questions why they were running away from the goons. so Beltino explains that Lupita had told them about some goons that were after her husband...and by the way, they were heavily armed. Fabián insists that they should have stayed behind so the goons could help him find El Chino, Beltino sarcastically points out the Fabián could have stayed behind and told the goons that he was the son of a judge who sent several drug traffickers to prison. Beltino thinks Fabián should be grateful that they took him out of there. Fabián finally agrees and offers to help out Beltino and Barb next time they come to San Antonio, but Beltino and Barb didn’t really care for the area and don’t plan to come back.
Guille arrives at his office and asks Renata to come in to talk to him. Renata goes in but refuses to sit down, but Guille insists. so Renata obliges. Guille doesn’t know how to tell her or how it happened, but he remembers everything that happened at the party in her apartment. He has images that he is still trying to piece together, but he remembers that they were very drunk, laughing, they fell to the floor, her cat was there, a glass fell…that is why he cut his hand, and that they were kissing. Renata sheepishly smiles as Guille tells her it is very clear to him and now understands why she wanted to talk to him. Renata fibs that she doesn’t remember the kissing. she knows because Kayla told her. When Renata assures him that Kayla saw them, Guille asks for reassurance that it really did happen and it’s not just his imagination. Renata only knows that it was a tremendous inebriation and suggests that Guille forget about it so as not to affect their working relationship. Furthermore, he now is in a relationship and she doesn’t want to get involved in that. Guille clarifies that Mayela is not his girlfriend. They are just friends. When Renata brings up the picture on social media and tells Guille that he will have to explain the picture to the whole world and to Mayela who is on Cloud 9, Guille is about to respond when Eva walks in demanding to talk to him. Guille tells Eva that he is busy, but Eva doesn’t think that talking to his secretary constitutes “being busy.” After Renata offers to leave, Guille chides Eva for being so rude. You need Mace pepper spray for that woman.
Pancho is at his home and in a hurry trying to make breakfast because it is late and the kids still need to get to school. He wonders why his wife is just now taking a bath but the wife wonders why he doesn’t make the breakfast himself. After Pancho points out that the kids prefer her cooking, the wife pushes him aside and tells him he is doing everything wrong. Just then, Perlita calls Pancho because she is very worried about Lupita. After she tells him about the call Lupita got and that she thinks it may be dangerous, Pancho tells his wife that she will have to take the kids to school and rushes out. Meanwhile, Lupita arrives at the address given to her. When no one answers the door she peeks in through the window and sees a pistol and a man lying on the floor. After she calls out to Chino, Gancho sits up and grabs the pistol. Lupita tries to run away, but is quickly surrounded by goons. Mugres points out that she is early, but this is the place she is looking for. As he tries to pin her to the wall, Lupita knees him in the groin and runs away. Gancho runs out of the building and tells the goons to get the truck and go after her. Lupita runs like a flash down a sidewalk. As Mugres follows behind, Lupita sees a taxi and gets in yelling at the driver to take off. The goon truck comes by, picks up Mugres and follows the taxi. Lupita manages to get away when a car blocks the truck, but as she gives thanks, Gancho and another goon are on a motorbike and give pursuit. Car vs motorbike?
In San Antonio, Beltino and Barb are now at the airport. Barb wants to rest a while, but Beltino tells her they need to get the first flight out to Mexico. Barb insists because she is not used to all the running around. so they sit for a while. What Barb doesn’t understand is why Beltino was protecting Fabián who only lives to kill him. When Beltino tells Barb that Fabián has a son, Barb is surprised that Beltino has a heart after all, especially since she just saw him kill two men in cold blood. Beltino retorts that he is El Chino and will always be El Chino, but having spent time with Javair makes him think that there are still people who are good...he gets frustrated at his thinking so he stands up and tells Barb to hurry up.
At Guille’s office, Eva chides Guille for having blown off their own cameramen. He needs to remember that he is also an owner of the company and he cannot treat the reporters that way…they are their own people. Eva demands that he send out a communication or talk to one of the reporters. He can choose which one he wants to talk to. When Guille asks what he should say, Eva rants that everyone is talking about his relationship with Mayela who now is a star in their company…they are both public figures. Guille tells her to forget it. He isn’t going to add to any of the lies and gossip out there…he won’t play that game. Eva counters that he should have thought of that before having his picture taken while kissing her. Guille points out that he didn’t send out that picture, but Eva yells that Mayela did so it’s his problem to solve. When she tells him that she is the older sister and that he and Vale have to do as she says, Guille retorts that he will do what he thinks is best. Eva tells him to then consider meeting with the press. If he doesn’t want to talk publicly about his relationship with Mayela, then in the very least, she deserves an explanation…why did he have that party when their father had just passed away. As she storms out, Guille wonders when she became so bitter. Renata and I both hate Mayela.
Meanwhile, at the production room, Mayela sits down for a taping of an interview that will be aired later that night. She tells the world how she and Guille have been friends since childhood and have always liked each other. She had to leave for New York for a while, but she is now back and they have decided to take the next step in their relationship. Delusional #1 Crap. She will be in those Hotel…...Trivago ads before we know it.
At the Carvajal home, LCJ is in the kitchen talking to Silvina and trying to get more info on Guille and Vale. He mentions the party and how he saw Vale quite drunk. When he asks if Vale uses drugs, Silvina assures him that she knows nothing about that. She has never seen Vale smoke or smelled anything odd. LCJ wonders about the pills, but Silvina reiterates that she doesn’t know anything about that either. When she adds that Vale has been acting strange and that she knows Vale likes alcohol…just like her father, LCJ is surprised to hear it. SIlvina tells LCJ that León really liked alcohol. LCJ comments that León was at a mature age and would only drink at appropriate times. Silvina then tells him that she does worry about Vale…and the kids seem so alone without Don León. When Silvina brings up how Lucía is there and cares for the kids, but is always busy at the company, LCJ asks if Silvina felt that Lucía loved León. Silvina remarks that people think Lucía married León for his money. LCJ totally agrees. Silvina thinks that Lucía is a mystery, but she has seen her cry when alone. When LCJ mentions that it is out of guilt, SIlvina wonders why LCJ questions his boss. LCJ avoids the question and leaves.
At the company, Lucía gives orders that all their media reports should focus on drugs and violence. She wants the public to know that the company is getting involved in the problems so that they can be part of the solution. She wants interviews with the politicians who don’t want to talk about the issues…since they are partly to blame. As Jaramillo is about to present one of his ideas, Rosalba interrupts and tells Lucía that she has a call…a matter of life and death. Lucía answers the phone to hear Armenta ask if she received the flowers. After clearing the office, Lucía replies that the flowers caused quite a commotion at the office. When Armenta tells her it was just a whim, Lucía points out that sometimes spontaneity is not convenient. Armenta wonders if she already has someone she has to answer to since she just became a widow. Lucía responds that that is the issue…she just became a widow and the country expects her to account for everything she does. Armenta tells her not to worry about the country, he will take care of that…and he is glad she has no one to answer to or else he would have to kill him…but he’s just kidding! #kiddingnotkidding Before hanging up, Armenta tells her that he is counting the hours till their meeting tonight. Delusional #2
Lupita rushes into Perlita’s restaurant and cries to Pancho and Perlita that she has gotten herself into a big problem because of her search for El Chino. She tells them of the trap Alacrán’s goons set up for her. Pancho thinks Lupita should just stop looking for her husband. one of these days, he is going to do something to her. As they argue, Gancho and gang storm in. When Gancho asks her to go with him, Pancho steps up and tells him that Lupita is not going anywhere with him. Perlita also insists that they leave Lupita alone, but Gancho pulls out his weapon and forces Lupita out. Lupita doesn’t make it easy for Gancho and his goons so Gancho tells her that she either gets into the truck herself or he will beat her a few times and put her in himself. After Lupita climbs into the truck and they take off, Pancho calls the cops and reports the license plate number of the truck that abducted his friend. When you get out of this pickle, marry Pancho Loopie, he is the first person in CDMX to get a license plate number.
At the Carvajal home, LCJ finally reaches Santos and tells him that wants him to come to Mexico for a few days. LCJ will pay for everything. LCJ explains that he has a friend who is a doctor. and the doctor is trying to help him understand this thing about life after death. Santos tells LCJ that he does have to go to Mexico anyway and might be able to take a couple of days off, but he isn’t sure. After some urging, Santos agree and will see LCJ in a couple of days. After LCJ ends the call, Vale approaches and tells LCJ that she needs a ride to Juls’s house. LCJ wonders about Juls so Vale tells him that Juls is her new friend who is really cool. After LCJ tells Vale that he has a medical appointment, Vale agrees to have Alirio take her.
At the scorpion’s nest, Gancho shoves a hooded Lupita toward Alacrán. When she stands before him unhooded, Alacrán asks if she isn’t glad to see her countrymen. He has been looking for her and has spent lots of money and lost men. When Lupita tells him that she doesn’t know where El Chino is, Alacrán responds that he has a plan to bring out El Chino. and she is just the pawn to set his plan in motion.
At Perlita’s restaurant, Pancho gives his statement to a cop who isn’t Montilla. He reports that there were five men with accents like those that come from the North. When the cop asks him if there is some reason why Lupita would be taken, Pancho has no idea, but adds that the guys seemed to be narcos. The cop assumes that Pancho’s wife is connected to the narcos. so Pancho clarifies that Lupita is not his wife, but that her husband is involved with the narcos. Just then, Pancho’s wife arrives ragging (as usual) on him for not taking the kids to school. Pancho, sounding embarrassed, tells the cop that she is his wife. The cop has to be thinking ‘Better you than me Buddy.’

In her office, Lucía calls in Rosalba and tells her she can take the flowers for herself. She can do whatever she wants with them as long as she gets rid of them. After Rosalba thanks her, Lucía tells her to contact LCJ and to tell him that it is urgent.
In his office, Johny tells Susana that Sanchez-Bueno will kick-off his campaign today. It sets his mind at ease to know that she will be there to cover it and look for information. In fact, he shouldn’t even have to tell her because she knows how to do her job. Susana agrees, she knows exactly how to do her job. Johny then BSes about having the Carvajal Group maintain objectivity and not demonstrate any political preferences or points of view regarding a certain individual. After he continues on…and on…and on, Susana giggles and tells him that what he proposes will be a great feat for her. Johny is about to question her when Rosalba comes in and interrupts. After Susana leaves, Rosalba reports that Lucía has told her to find LCJ, but she doesn’t know why since Lucía had said she was not going anywhere. Oooo all the little spies have to report back to the Smelly One. I thought it was just those glasses that made you look stupid Rosy. It is not the glasses.
At the scorpion’s nest, Lupita is taken to the laundry room where Alacrán tells her to make herself comfortable because she will be there a while. He adds that she will be the only woman among many men. so they will treat her like a queen…but she’d better not give him any problems or else he will bring her daughter to keep her company. After Lupita pleads with him to not involve her daughter in this, Alacrán tells her that she’d better cooperate and do everything she is told to do.

I love your detailed recaps. I hope you will recap some upcoming novelas. The only one I find interesting for now is 'Ringo' with Jose Ron. We'll just have to hope that Televisa stops giving us trash to watch.

Juliana and Valentina -- please go away!!

Thanks Victoria. This episode seemed to be a lot about nothing. There were a few tidbits, like Renata instantly giving her gift from the witch Mayela to Kayla. Of course I like anything with those two cuties.

And MAN, can Lupita run ! They should have had her rather than Paulina Goto in Vuelo de la Victoria. I feel bad for her captured by those goons, but Armenta hates that crowd, so maybe he will raid the place and free her. So Armenta is buying the soccer widows houses and giving them money? Has he been watching that Pablo Escobar documentary?

But Lupita seems to be operating at the limit of her cerebral horsepower.

1 She has been on the job for days and needs a payday advance?
2 She ASKS for it.
3 WHAT is it that makes it so important for her to find her #husbandnothusband El Chino?
4 She goes there alone without a backup plan or anything.

But wow can the girl pick em up and put them down. I thought they speeded up the tape until I saw her shirt and ponytail like a windsock at the airport.

And another TV favorite: (I have a motorcycle, so this really spins my beanie.) The goons giving chase on a tiny motorbike. Just get up some speed and slam on the brakes, then calmly get out of the car and scrape the remains off your rear bumper and trunk. And the anemic little bike had two fellows on it to boot.

Is Camillo going for the Einstein look?

And Johny just turns my stomach with his fake smiles and nosy into everybody's business snooping and little Fabric and Rosy spies. I wish Lucia had a BB pistol in her desk and could have shot his hand when he IMMEDIATELY went for her card on the flowers to see who they were from. But snakes never bite each other do they?

Actually non poisonous ones like black racers will attack poisonous ones, but not vice versa. A couple of friendly black racers around the house and grounds generally guarantees no poisonous snakes will be found.

Mayela is one of those who capitalize on the kindness of others. She knows full well that she and Guille are not actually novios, but believes he is too nice to make her look like an abject fool in the media if she gets there first. And she is right. I am certain that she staged the photograph and Of Course, leaked it to the media. Guille should fight fire with fire and have a frank talk with the reporters. Mayela would hate him then for making her look like the gold digger she is, but she started it.

:-) kj

Thank you, Kirby, impressive recap with so many details!

Lupita was amazing to have gotten away, but to no avail. So how do five goons walk into a restaurant and just grab someone? Were there no cops around to see the chase and pursue the bad guys? Beanie time?

LCJ is treading on thin ice by not answering the boss's request for a service he is hired to provide. If he doesn't contain his anger and jealousy, he could get fired. How will he expect to be close to his kids then?

More laters....gotta run...but not as fast as Lupita! hehehe

Great work, Kirby.

Eva will have a lot of explaining to do when everyone finds out she is sleeping with Alacran, which can ultimately lead to her sleeping with the fishes. Has it never occurred to her that such a revelation could also destroy the company, leaving all the Carvajals out in the cold?

Lucia is playing with fire; Armenta is an Escobar wannabe and that is the fastest route to oblivion. He may know more about her past than she realizes and that public revelation is also an atomic bomb.

I will be very happy to see Johny sleeping with the fishes. What a slime.

And I agree with Victoria about Valentina and Juliana. This plotline is way out of line in this tale.

Urban, maybe Eva will get busted trying to sneak in incognito to Alacran's funeral if Armenta has his way.

Right now Eva believes she is untouchable, which is not unusual for narcissists with money and position. However, I strongly doubt she would risk that. She might end up looking over her shoulder for the rest of her life. Alacran won't keep this secret if he can benefit from the revelation and she needs to realize this.

"Fabián doesn’t understand why they are running if they have nothing to hide (is there anything that Fabián does understand?)."

Love your quips, Kirby. Lots of tension in this one, as usual, but my favorite scenes as always, were with Beltino and Barbara. They do play a fusty old married couple well, and I like how the telenovela is showing that events and experience radically change people. Beltino has had his edges softened by his relationship with his pseudo-son. And Leon, mellow and hail-fellow-well-met is bitter and vengeful, now that he knows about his betrayal. Plus he's finding out that he was a poor father and his beautiful kids are involved in malfeasance, drugs and alcohol. The shine is off.

So, is Beltino learning this lessons that Santa Muerte wants him to? We see him praying to the Spirit of Death, and affirming that Death is a protector as well as God. Does that meant that there is hope for this character?--unlike Karla who seemed completely stuck in her obsessions and addictions.

Time will tell.I'd like at least one character to come out of this stew redeemed.

Enjoyed the episode and enjoyed the recap Kirby. You rock.

UA, hope that your cold is better. I still have my virus big-time, but hopefully, by 5th week will be well again.

Hey, and don't count out something cray cray from Alacran either. He was talking to one of his helpers the other day and he is falling in Luuuurve with Eva. Imagine that !
We all know the craaazy things a man will do when he falls for a beautiful woman.

I vote for Alacran showing up at Carvajal with flowers like Army sent Lucia, but delivering them in person with his armed entourage. Now that....would be fun. Offer Eva a ring right there at work .

JudyB did you get clearance from all parties to be sick? At this time of the year?

I hope you end this foolishness before long.

Get well soon.

Hah Kirby! You are like my younger brother (and that is high praise), you can always make me laugh.

No, dang it, didn't get clearance for this. Am am VERY MIFFED. The only trouble with "why me?" is "why not me?". Guess it was my turn. But hope it will soon be over.

I was my turn, too. However I am sufficiently recovered to crave seafood, so I will be heading over to Red Lobster to start using my $150 in gift cards. Today's Early Dining Special offers the smaller version of their Ultimate Feast for $20. I have two game meetups to attend this weekend so I will definitely feel better. Russell Stover is still half price so I will probably get another box of Sugar Free for a diabetic friend I will be seeing tomorrow evening. I'm invited to a New Year's party but I still have to make a decision about it due to its location.

If Alacran is actually in love with Eva he could live to regret it. She is incapable of loving anyone. Sadly, Mateo doesn't seem to realize that and it could cost him his life.

Can one really pray to the Devil and God at the same time???

Victoria: You're asking the WRONG person. :-) But I've heard that the two of them really don't have much in common past being open to prayers.

I suppose if it is a forgone conclusion where you are headed, you might say a few words to each about ice water or something.

Kirbillo

Victoria, I really don't know what to say about the praying. I'm sure praying to the Santa Muerte could be construed as praying to the devil, but IMHO there is a distinction between praying to the Saint of Death and praying to the devil.

I'm certainly no expert, though...
