Amar a Muerte, 1/25/19, Episode 58: Revelations, Explanations, Consternation

  • Jacobo, aka León Carvajal, has given Luscious Lucia an ultimatum:  --You have forty-eight hours and either you accept my proposal and we get married or it will be obvious to me that your answer is 'No, you're not Johny Corona.' "  --Initially, some five to ten minutes earlier, Jacobo's proposal of marriage had left Lucia speechless.  Her mind was whirring.  She was apparently dumbfounded.  Jake was almost, dare I say, frantic in his appeal.  "--Look at me!  Am I not the most important thing in your life?"  "--Yes!  You are my reality!"  She told him she simply could not.  "--Is it money then? You have money.  So just pick up and go!" "--Of course not!  It's more complex than that! There's too much at stake right now.  I cannot just leave my life as if it were nothing!"
  • At the manse de los Carvajal that morning, on Mt. Olympus, Matteo and Eva are at the breakfast table. He is explaining to Eva that he's got an informant who has told him there's a wealthy woman at the top who is in charge of laundering cartel cash.  Eva tries poo-pooing this at first, saying enemies of Grupo Carvejal are plenty and are ready to cast aspersions at them.  Door-Matt confirms its a guy on the inside of Cartel de La Sierra who told him this.   Matt tries thinking for himself for once, but falls far short of the mark.  He tells his wife he believes it must be Lucia Borges--and to think he always defended her in the past!  Eva latches onto this line of reasoning and agrees wholeheartedly it has to be her [that snake of a gold-digging social climber]!  They have to have some kind of proof of course as it's only his supposition.

  • Silvina arrives in the dining room to tell Eva the workman is ready at the door to the BatCave.

  • Back in their secret forest, Lucia argues that 48 hours is too little time for such a big decision.  He yells back how much time then does she need?  A week?  A month?  A year?  "--I am not Johny Corona who you can leave on hold!" He says he doesn't have much time.  She looks at him bewildered and says he's talking as if he were going to die! "--Don't do that to me.  I had a bad enough experience with León's death."  "--You look rather too surprised."  "--Of course 'surprised'; León had an iron constitution!"  "--Also plenty of enemies!"  "--Mostly competitors!  Competitors, over all!  Tell me you're going to be fine."  "--You go to Johny Corona and then tell him the truth about us and that you're going to marry me!--What!  It would seem you don't dare." "--You know already what people are capable of.  Johny is very aggressive.--"  "--Are you afraid he'll kill me?"  "--NO!  I won't allow it!"  She caresses his face. "--So then?"  (And that wonderfully haunting and seductive music begins playing again in the background.  Gotta give them elves a raise.  They got a real knack....)  Lucia gives in and agrees to confess all to JC.  (Remains to be seen, methinks!)

  • Renata comes in with a determined demeanor today.  (Good girl!  There are enough door mats associated with Eva and Grupo Carvajal already.)  The boss is already on her case for not having some report finished yesterday when it was apparently needed.  She tells him she isn't finishing that report and hands him her resignation then looks the obnoxious male chauvinist boss straight in the eye.  She owns that moment!  Lovely!

  • Beltrán pays another visit to Barbara who is only half awake that time of the morning.  Belchin'  comes demanding explanations about the woman spirit she's been chatting with and wants to know where to find the dude who has been wearing his body.  Barb tells him to learn to live without it.  The spirit talks to her only when she wants to and Barb says she doesn't even know her name!  He asks her to be truthful and if she really doesn't want to help him now then just tell him; don't make excuses.  She falls unconscious and he gets disgusted and storms out of her house.

  • Barb begins dreaming of an old Indian shaman--looks like an American Indian, an Apache perhaps, a hundred or two years ago--who apparently is practicing black magic.  He looks at himself in the mirror and suddenly Barb sees herself reflected in the mirror!  Ruh-roh!!!  Barb now knows she is also a part of the transmigration nation.  She sees La Muerte in the mirror and wakes with a fright.   La Muerte tells her that they're going to open the doors for her now and this time she hopes she does good/gets it right!

  • Silvina, Matt, Fabricio, and Eva are watching the workman do something at the door of the bat cave downstairs.  Silvina says she must tell Sra. Lucia.  Eva yells at her that Lucia's not there, she is and she will take the heat for it.  Forget it!  However, Eva takes a detour and privately calls El Alacrán to give him the heads up on the problem person in his posse.  Fab comes up to tell her things are ready down there now.  She tells Al she's going to have to call him back.  She should discuss it in person.
  • The workman and Fab find a safe.  Eva races over to open it.  She fails. (Goody!)  They have the workman take it apart.
  • Meanwhile, at the offices of Grupo Carvajal, the company attorneys are meeting about surprise emails demanding that they sell all their shares to Lucia Borges.  Somebody with intimate knowledge of the company's IT and procedures must be behind this.  (Scuzi, but didn't Lucia already ask that the lawyers anti up those shares or is Viewerville forgetting something?  Maybe the writers have forgotten something instead.)

  • Once again we must take a trip to the Isle of Lesbos as Val and Juls-now Jules-are being driven to a surprise location.  Lucho is following them, natch, to see where an when the dude Val has left him for--and more than likely it's Jacobo--will appear.  (FF>>FF>>)

  • At the house where Lupita and Juliana are hiding out, Panchito offers to spend time with Lupi today as Jules and Valentin@ are spending their day together.  Lupi mentions she's been trying to start a life without El Chino, but life has a way of putting him right in front of her anyway.  She tells Panchito the truth of having met the man who is in El Chino's body but is not him and the man at the hospital who seems to be him.  Panchito admits he's having a real hard time getting his head around it all.  No less than she, admits Lupi.  However, it is a real boon having gotten it off her chest and having been able to tell somebody else about this.

  • Hector/Maru, aka Hecmu is on her way to school when a starving old woman begs her for help and tells her she's not eaten in days.  Hecmu takes her on her back and carries her ten blocks to the nearest hospital (y iQué coinkydink!) where she screams at the attendants to please rush to see what's wrong with the sick woman she just brought in.

  • Back to the assault on the bat cave. Lucia arrives to find Fab and Silvi alone with the workman who is tearing apart the safe still.  She gives Silvi and Fab what for and how to because she wasn't advised of this.  Silvi tries explaining that Eva made them.  She asks Fabricio if he now works for Eva or what.  Fab makes the excuse that Eva is Don Leo's daughter.  (Bad move on his part.)  "--And so what?  I was his wife!  It should be clear as crystal that I am the one who gives orders in this house, not Eva!  Got it?????!!!!!"  Yup..... and it seems that Jake has followed her in down there.  He looks on innocently as Lucia takes command of the miserable situation and asks what it's all about.  Fab explains that Don Leo used to watch the family and all their activities on that screen from there apparently.  Suddenly everyone there, minus Jake, feels a bit violated.

  • After a while she comes in to tell the old woman that she only has anemia and will soon be fine.  As Hector leaves, the old woman grabs her arm to tell her she's still got goodness somewhere in her heart, but it will be up to Hecmu to find it.  And who is that sickly old beggar woman off the street?  Why none other than La Muerte of course.

  • While Lucia tells the others she will be the one to go into the now broken open safe, Jake remembers the scenes he saw with Lucia and Johny making whoopee in the study back when, and how he then learned that Johny, his once bestest of buds and right hand man, his protege of proteges, had had him killed and that Lucia was apparently in on it.  Lucia sees the safe's empty and orders Silvi to see the workman out.  As Silvi passes Jake she remembers she needs him to do something and casually touches him.  At that same moment Don Leo is now standing there instead of Jake! (Viewerville certainly didn't see that one coming!  It joins Silvi in that moment of shock and awe.) She nearly faints from fright and she seems somewhat confused and dazed.  Jake and Lucia call over to her.  Eventually she gathers her wits about her and crosses herself  as she leaves.

  • At Grupo Carvajal, Matt delivers his good news about his cartel research to Susana.  He tells her he's certain it must be Lucia Borges.  Susana tells him not to jump to conclusions as it could very well be his wife also.  Door-Matt snickers yeah, right. And of course he must get to the bottom of this asap.  Susana insists that something doesn't square if Lucia were to be the guilty party.  She's aligned with Los Armenta who is giving her gifts like that red car.  La Sierra is its sworn enemy.  Door-Matt suggests it could be that El Alacran asked her to get close to Armenta for inside dirt.

  • Eva arrives at El Alacran's headquarters and tells him point blank that the hubby has gotten an informant inside Al's gran clan there and now has made the connection to Grupo Carvajal as being part of their operation.  Al says kill him or quiet him--your choice.  Eva reminds Al she's told him not to touch a hair on Door-Matt's head.  He suggests she plan evidence to convince Hubby that Lucia is the connection.

  • Back to Lupi and Panchito's Rite of the Living Dead plight, she had promised not to say a word to anybody, especially to Jules since this Jacobo works as a driver at Valentin@'s house.  Well, reasons Panchito, there are just way too many coincidences throughout all of this.  (Ya don't say!)

  • Barb is talking to Belchin' again who has apparently called her from the hospital.  She relates the dream and says the woman spirit gave her back her abilities again.  Belchin' says she's been playing the part so long she actually now believes it!  Barb suggests he come to her place that evening and they'll do what he's asked her to.  He begs off and says he's got something else he needs to do instead.  She hangs up and smiles that she's going to use her new found abilities for good this time.  She puts her hands around the magic crystal ball and this time it begins to shine quite brightly as it were.  She smiles like a kid with a big basket full of giant lollipops.

  • Once at school, Hecmu overhears some bully boys hassling the super-smart nerd of the class.  She gives them heck (pardon the pun) and they actually back off.  Hec has done another good deed that day.  Go figure.....

  • Renata arrives home a bit down in the mouth. (Is that not one but TWO half gallons of ice cream to devour tonight alone in front of the television?  Oh noes!!!!  Renata, say it ain't sooooo!) She is rescued when she suddenly gets an unexpected call from Liquor Store Owner's wife who asks her to come to the hospital.  Something has happened to her husband.  He's had an event.

  • Meanwhile, Eva and Mayela are have a snark fest over Renata's quitting her job as planned.  What wasn't planned was Guillermo's quitting over it.  May suddenly thinks that yes, this does mean that he's more than just infatuated with his lowly ex-sexratary.  He must be serious about the gal.  (Too bad.  So sad.  I hope it drives you both mad.  You two are just so bad--a couple o' bitches I gotta add!  Wow!  How you got had!)

  • So Jake has gone back to Camilo's house.  He gets his bleeding butterfly medicated and tells the questioning Cam that he's marrying Lucia. She is supposed to tell Johny Corona their plan today as well. His plan is to make her and Johny suffer so much that they both wish they were dead.  He has no intention of doing what Cam suggests-- going to Montilla and giving him the name of Camargo as the hired assassin.  He's going to make them suffer even though it costs him his life--his second life.

  • Johny, meanwhile,  has a company IT guy figuring out where those threatening emails came from.  Lucia shows up and gets a look at the emails.  "--It's signed by León."  "--Everything points to León but it is someone who is using that account. It's obvious that person is who is trying to drive us crazy and who is using that name to make us think he's alive.  But, that's impossible."  Lucia replies that he's doing a good job of it.  She's frightened.  "--That somebody knows something.   And what comes after?  Especially after last night?" JC says it's time they high-tail it out of Mexico for parts unknown. They both have money out the wazoo.  "--Let's just get out of here! We start a new life --together and that's that.....What?  Should we just hang around till they come to kill us?"  She tells him heck no! "--That's all Eva would need to think she was right all along and Montilla would stay up nights (I believe) looking for us as the true killers!"  No! She refuses to flee all her life!  She is staying to look for the person who is threatening them this way and finish him off.  JC says okay, fine.  (And so much for telling Johny about her and Jake and their plans to marry....)

  • At the hospital, Ren is talking to Mrs. Liquor Store Owner when Guille shows up.  They were apparently both called.  The Missus excuses herself to see about her husband.  Guille and Ren tell each other how they quit their job at Grupo Carvajal.  "--It's a job like any other.  I'll just find another."  Guille says Eva did this as a means of punishing him and he refuses to be treated that way.  That's why he quit.  He'll look for work soon again.  (Viewerville wonders what he needs a job for; he's rich as sin already.  He and generations of his kin to follow won't ever have to lift a finger to survive in the lap of luxury.  What a wasted line.)  He says well then, they should look together.  Maybe they should hang together.  Maybe they should plan things together...for ever and always.  "--What do you think, Renata?  Let's plan a future together."  (We'll have to wait for an answer till the next capítulo.)  She smiles wide.

  • Hecmu is waiting for his son at the park.  She's got to talk to him and it has to be NOW.

  • At Al's grand hide-away, he's playing musical tattletales with his gang of ghouls.  He wants to know who the new informant is.  Round and round he goes and where he stops only Al knows. He stops behind Gancho who turns around and faces him.  Al is pointing his gun straight between Gancho's eyes.  And a sorrier sack o' sapos I have never seen.

  • Lupi answers a knock at the gate.  It's Belchin'.

  • On the grounds of the manse Silvi and Tiberio discuss how odd it is that Max, who never plays with anybody, plays like mad with Jacobo.  Silvi then mentions her shocking experience down by the entrance to the bat cave as she touched Jake by accident, how she saw Don León instead of him.  "--Just look how that dog is playing with him and how he obeys!"

  • Lucia enters her bedroom and is shocked to see origami birds like Leo used to make spread out all over the floor, the beatable the breakfast table, the pictures and TV set.  They're just...everywhere!  Lucia is scared skittlesless.

  • Well, the house Valentin@ and Jules are staying for the weekend is the house Val plans for them to live in as lesbian lovers.  It was another of the houses that belonged to her mother.  (Gotta wonder if Mama's turning over in her grave about now or if she'd be as shocked and awed much as Val's papi was.)  Val and her friends--apparently Lucho among them--used to play there when she was young, she tells Jules.  And while these two are playing out their close desires, Lucho is desperately trying to find a way into the house to catch his ex with another guy.  All the doors there are large sliding glass.  One of them looks right into the hallway next to the kitchen.  The two girls have now walked into view as he is looking in and they begin necking.  Lucho sees the unexpected goings on and looks like he's about to lose his lunch.  (Can't say as this part of Viewerville much blames him, either.)

Jardinera: Looking forward to seeing the recap you're cooking up.

Crazy Johnny, sadistic Armenta, and vindictive LCJ. Not so bright future for Luci.

Anon 11:51. Nope, no bright future for Luci. As the saying goes "you reap what you sow" and that I know of, Luci hasn't planted any good seeds. She's been nice to Guille and Vale, but that's about it...nowhere near redemption or salvation.

RGVchick: I was thinking much the same. We really haven't seen anything of a redemptive nature about her. Maybe it's hidden deep and still to appear. Loved the intense marriage proposition. I began wondering also if you were right about LCJ going for the company shares or if it might be JC doing this on his own and separately from Jake/Leo. Wasn't it his idea that Lucia should ask for the lawyer's shares in the company?

Don't feel sorry for Lucia. She should get what she deserves. She's been playing around with fire for far too long. It would be satisfying to see Armenta torment her too.

I agree one hundred percent about Lucia. It seems the more we get to know her, the less we are inclined to see her as deserving forgiveness. Some horrible things happened to her in her past, but having a good excuse does not give you a global "Get out of jail Free' card. Nor does it give you license to get even for past transgressions against you with people completely unconnected with those past crimes.

IE: If Lucia were going after her Mom and her cohorts, we would be setting up a "Go Fund Me' page for her. But that is not the case.

Hi all. I believe the typos are now removed. I am eager to see what becomes of Lucia and Jake. He's being a bad boy and she's thinking of numero uno about now. I wonder if they'll both go to Hell and meet again as mental retards or physically mutilated people in the next life.

Goodness, a lot of "right turns" in this one. Earlier neither Barbara nor Hec/Maru seemed very promising as good guys, but now they are both suddenly showing stellar qualities. In the meantime, LCJ is definitely turning towards the dark and vengeful.

But while I ponder all this, let me say I thoroughly enjoyed the recap and especially this:

Matt tries thinking for himself for once, but falls far short of the mark. He tells his wife he believes it must be Lucia Borges--and to think he always defended her in the past!

And DoorMatt is a great moniker.

Delighted that Guille and Renata have re-connected. Since money isn't a problem for him, perhaps they can go on providing help, both physical and emotional, to people injured by felons, robbers and narcs. Their efforts brought about much good with the liquor shop owner, and there are a multitude of people needing medical help in Mexico, so go for it.

I still feel a certain amount of sympathy for Lucia, and wish that her life with Jacobo would work out, but clearly it won't. And that room full of Origami birds was quite an illustration of "chickens coming home to roost".

No sympathy though for Johny. Nor for Eva and Alacrán. Those three can meet their Karmageddon anytime now.

Mayela actually look chagrined I thought. As if she were sorry for misjudging the seriousness of Guille and Renata's relationship. But maybe only because he is lost to her forever. Either way, hopefully she has learned her lesson in this life (if she is another transmigrada)

Great recap Jardinera. Thanks. Thinking of you Florida folks as the snow flies here. Cold but beautiful.

Marriage Proposal: Somebody please tell me that Leon is not as nauseatingly stupid as Mateo.
He must have an ulterior motive after what he saw the other night in his (former) BatCave.

JudyB: Believe it or not, I am in the semi-tropical region of SW FL and it was 45 degrees last night. Today is cold and windy and rainy and it won't get above the low 60's. My blood has thinned. Except for the ice I might as well be right up there with y'all. Je-je!

Kirby, go fund me pages aside (LOL), Leo's got it bad still. He's thinking with his subterranean brain. If he thinks he's going to make Lucia suffer alongside Johny, he's got another think coming. He talks a good game but always melts around her and goes green if not wobbley around JC. You just cannot think straight when the green-eyed monster takes hold of you.

Yes, Jardinera, you do not live that far South of me, and to say the weather has been miserable is actually complimentary.

I don't know, the 'True Confessions' LCJ witnessed from the (formerly known as ) BatCave sure had an effect on him at the time. I am still not convinced that low head lust thinking is operating in his case. He seems like the Terminator now, with one purpose and one only to live for and that is to extract revenge for what those two did to him. I hopeo I am right as it would be a blight on all of Wooferdom if he were that weak and stupid. None of us do our business near our food bowl.

So do we think he believes his reason to have a 2nd chance at life I'd revenge now? Thought it was what he told Hecmu.

Is revenge, not I'd

I think it is. Regardless of whether he thinks it is his purpose or not, he seems to be hell bent on getting even now after the colossal betrayal he watched recently. He gets it together when he has to, to be around the Carvajals but we see a different side of him with Camillo or when he is alone having some thinkin an drinkin time.

He is sending Johny the Traitor emails right after seeing Johny and Lucia discussing their plight--two peas in a pod-- and turns around and insists she marry him. I smell a rat. But it could just be wishful thinking too.

Thank you, Jardinera. I am shocked to hear how low your temperatures have dropped. It was a sunny day today but only in the high 30s. Brrr but I went to lunch and shopping with my younger daughter, so I did not mind the cold. I have a nice lightweight puffy coat with a big hood.

So..is this supposed to make us examine our own personal philosophies of the meaning of life and death? I have been doing a lot of that lately. There is so much despair and frustration in this show.So few people who seem happy with their lives. So many downright awful, evil people. Oh well, I am settling in on this cold, dark night with a hopeful Hallmark channel movie.

I think Jacobo means exactly what he says when he tells Camilo he's going to make their (Loose-y and Johnny) lives a living hell and they will wish they were dead. How better to do that than to marry her, love with her and start doing all kinds of "Leon" things (word-for-word phrases, unique gestures, off-the-wall observations, discuss things he would like to do in the future that only she had been privy to, etc) - all with a totally innocent facade that will have her climbing the walls. As for Johnny? Meh, just step on him like the cockroach he is and point Montilla in his direction more and more, until he feels the noose so tight around his neck that he quits wearing those played-out preacher shirts!

I'm not crazy about the Val/Jul story line, either, but maybe now Mucho will get the message and move on. On the other hand, from what we've seen of him, he'll probably take this as an insult and/or challenge to his "manhood." Oy, vey.

Lucho, not mucho!

:-) Mucho, Lucho, Lunk Clunk, all the same.
Can't he just be so hurt he shoots himself?

I sometimes think that When Jacobo sees Lucia and especially when he gets physically close to her, the top part of his body (!) and the bottom part 😂 temporarily get reversed— if you catch my drift!!! That’s why Camilo kept asking him “ Do you love or hate her? His physical attraction and his desire for revenge are in constant competition.......Just a thought.

I sometimes ( but not often) feel a drop MIXED about Lucia because she is typically so nice to Silvana and Val and...I think Guille.

My favorite feel good parts in this TN are Beltran with his chamaco and Guille with Renata.

IF ONLY DoorMatt would wake the heck up!!! He drives me nuts.

AMOT

I am 99 procent sure, that in the end Lucia will save Leon's life, and she will be forgiven. Unlike 99 procent of patio people, I feel sympathy and empathy for Lucia. IMO she suffered enough, went through hell several times. Yes, she had bad choices, kept quiet, but she isn't bad person.

Just catching up on the last few recaps... Guess I'm the only one in this group who's enjoying the Valentina and Juliana storyline. Sad to see the homophobia in this day and age.

Glad that Guille and Renata are possibly back together. Renata letting herself get bullied and talked down to was annoying.

Mateo, Mateo, Mateo... Hopefully Susana can keep him on track of doing a proper investigation and not letting his bias influence him. Eva is gonna get this boy killed.

Like Jacobo, I have a love/hate relationship with Lucia. I want to root for her (and for her and Leon being together), but she makes it so hard with going along with all of Johnny's plans and wanting to eliminate the person sending them those threats. What happened to "yo no soy una asesina". Maybe Lucia will sacrifice herself for Leon and become one of the transmigrated. Then her and Leon could live happily ever after in their new bodies.

Why hasn't Silvinas gift ever given her flashes of Johnny's true feelings/intentions? That would come in handy though would probably just lead to her untimely demise.

I am Star Wars fan. Lucia is Anakin Skywalker who became Darth Vader, but there was still good in him/her… Johny is Emperor - the evil Darth Sidious.

Lucia isn't a bad person? She's a manipulative liar, swindled Leon, sleeps with two men at the same time and she's an accomplice in her husband's murder, among other things. And she's willing to be an accomplice to murder again, to end with Jacobo's psychological warfare. Does Lucia's niceness to Silvina (when she isnt moody) or to Guillermo and Valentina (both of whom she doesn't really interact much with) really place her as a nice person? We might as well redeem alacran then, for his love of bunnies. Let's forget that he's a murderer altogether.

The valentina and juliana storyline is so unneccesary. Juliana is boring as heck to watch. She's a worthless character, like Lupita. Don't know if it's so much about homophobia, but to each their own.

Lucia's mother is worst character in this novela. Second place - Armenta, Alacran and Johny. Eva is next.

Oh how sweet, you wanna get married? Well, I told you at the get go this would be difficult. You must know that actually means I will continue with Johny Corona and you will be my side squeeze Dummy.

Yes I just said that the first time I laid eyes on you, looked into those blue eyes, and kissed those lips I was falling. Notice I didn't mention anything about you as another human being? Because I could care less about your thoughts or view of life, or how you treat others. It is purely physical, TOY.

What did you think? That I would give up everything Johny and I have worked and killed for to be with a blue-eyed Choffer? If you are not content to continue sharing my bed with Johny Corona, you lose Chump, #sorrynotsorry.

But, if Johny finds out about us, he will kill me. No, Chofer, only if I tell him to. DOH

Yes Eva, my luuurve, my informant came through. It turns out someone at OUR Carvajal, of all places, is laundering money for Cartel de Sierra.
Where did you get a silly notion like that (door)Mat-eo?

Yes, my delicate little (not putting out for ME) flower, I saw my informant kill the go-between in front of my very eyes. This is the real deal.
(Thought Bubbles) “Crap, this douche bag is onto something. Keep cool, and find out what he knows.”

So, (door)Mat-eo, did he say who it is? (Tries to control her breathing and wills herself not to perspire.)

Well, Honey Sugar Buns, he said it is a very powerful woman in Carvajal.
(Damnation with whipped cream on it, I'm gonna have to have him killed).

So (door)Mat-eo, any idea who it could possibly be.?
(Are my eyes bugging out or does it just feel that way?)

Oh, Sugar Plums, it has to be that Lucia, she is fooling with the Armenta goon too, you know.
(Whew, did I pee myself? I can't get up from the table until (door)Mat-eo leaves, as I can't tell for sure.)

I've told you before (door)Mat-eo, the spider is going to ruin our lives if we don't get rid of her.

Hoppy Sunday

Val takes her new GF to the Carvajal Country Conjugal Cottage, unbeknownst that in town, the liquor store shooting victim Castillo has thrust Guille and Renata back together and they are reconciled.
What do you want to bet that they forget to check the sign out sheet before heading for the country?
BTW, it would be a great place for Eva to take Alacran also, to get him away for a planning session after what she found out at breakfast. ! ! !

But get in line, Lucho and The Stalker's Apprentice have found the Country place just in time to witness Truth's Mean Streak through the sliding glass door.
Dim-wit. It wasn't the Chofer ! Now go home.

If Juliana and Valentinas storyline is boring to you, that's fair, but I don't think the dislike for their story is purely people thinking it's boring. I mean, in a previous recap, a comment referred to their relationship as being "force fed" and said that most people watching have most likely already made up their minds about "these issues". How is it force fed? By just existing. It's no different than Guille and Renata's relationship.

Another comment in a different recap says that "This is NOT what I came to telenovelas to indulge in. I am thoroughly put out by having to watch this as something titilating and if the regular story weren't so good, I would have dropped it long ago". Seems pretty extreme for 1 boring side story to drop the whole show over.

Another comment asks what Valentinas and Juliana's storyline has to do with the theme of the novela, and asks if this was supposed to be some sort of PSA. And that the storyline has nothing to do with transmigration.

Those comments don't really sound like the characters and their stories are just boring to the watcher. I mean, Guilles story doesn't have to do with transmigration either, but that storyline isn't criticized for not fitting with the theme. And why does Juliana's and Valentinas storyline have to be a "PSA" instead of just another relationship being shown?

So yeah, while some may find the characters and their story boring, I don't think you can say there isn't some homophobia at play with comments like that.

OT: This is a first for me after living in the Sunshine State for so long: A Road Rage storm !
A storm blows in from the NorthWest bringing plunging temperatures and a cold rain. Then it passes over us in SW Florida and on down to Miami.

Then just like a bad case of Road Rage, it looks in the rearview mirror, sees that we are still moving, throws it into reverse and BACKS over us again.

And then for good measure, slams it into Park, and just sits there revving the engine.

#hatebadweather

Thank you, Jardinera, you're spot on, as always.
Lol at Door-Mat - this is the BEST nick-name for him.
Question! I haven't watched for a while due to the Holidays, but there was a comment the other day about Mateo's neck tattoo bleeding. Did I get it wrong or is he one of "them", too??

I agree with Kirby that Leon wants revenge ... for now. He could very well put everything in motion, eventually destroy Johnny and when the time comes to pull the plug on Lucia to chicken out because of luurve.
Or maybe he's just fooling himself into thinking that he's not totally crazy about her like she was fooling herself that she only cared about Leon's money.

For now his gaslighting seems to be working just fine. He's playing tricks with her mind, making her think she's loosing her marbles and at the same time he gets to enjoy being her hidden lover.

Jardinera--I waited until today to revel in the recap. Thank you for a powerful, yet witty delivery.

I think LCJ's haste in giving Lucia 48 hours to give him an answer has two reasons, or maybe three. 1) From all he's learned from Camilo, his time in this body is limited; it could come more quickly than expected--especially when NOT trying to rectify wrongs in his former life--as he recently told Hec-Maru; 2) He's still bent on vengeance and is expecting Lucia to turn him down, which would prove to him her insincerity and justify his behavior toward her--damn the death sentence and full speed ahead with the torpedoes; 3) He really wants Johny to be the one to suffer the most by having Luci marry him since it puts a big set of horns on Johny's head, undoubtedly be made public, and will henceforth set a new fashion statement.

I signed up for a good story and this is it. We are all aware of "filler" side plots to round out the 100 or so episodes. We don't always like them, boring, PSA's or giving some starving actors a paycheck. Some are super snark worthy.

I haven't minded the writers taking Vale and Juls' deepening friendship slowly to the next level in a very tasteful way. They ARE connected to two transmigrated souls. 'Nough said there. I think the writers have been pretty brave to treat this subject the way they have, naturally, given their target audience--which more than likely is very traditional in its approach to human sexuality. I tried to enjoy watching the two become close friends--but the notion was always present, that, because of someone's early comment that there was going to be sexual relationship between them, I labeled them from the git go. It was a spoiler.

That said, I probably would rather have done without it in this tn, tastefully done or not. It's a reality we are living with every day and in every way. We are all human beings who need and desire compatible human companionship.

Kirby--So, besides being a good storyteller, photographer par excellence, reliable advice-giver on motorized vehicles, you have now earned a position of Caray poet (sort of)in residence. We haven't had a poetry contest in a long time.

If Caray and Football is causing withdrawl symptoms, try these:

This one is from the archives--Susanlynn was one of our featured poets, by the way. [Click on La Tempestad, wait for the index to roll out] and go to LA TEMPESTAD EXTRA–CONFIDENCIAL, Issue #1 (appears between Oct 4 & 7, 2013). The poetry slam is at the very bottom.

This one is fun, too:

Gracias,. My favorite:

Too bad. So sad. I hope it drives you both mad. You two are just so bad--a couple o' bitches I gotta add! Wow! How you got had!

Lucho isn't going to take this one lying down. He is really going to lose it. He's an immature spoiled brat whom Leon wouldn't have liked Valentina to be with. I hope Guille is available to come to the rescue when that shit hits the fan.

With another 30 episodes to go a lot more is going to happen. Armenta is due to make a move and Lucia will get into hot water she doesn't deserve (vs whatever she does deserve).

More later.

Adriana--Please clarify who you think Matteo is. Eva's husband, Matteo, is NOT one of "them." He has no tattoo. Unless I've lost count, here are the only "Thems" I know.

Beltran (who wants his old body back, but wants to keep his new family)
El Chino Valdes (settling into his new body and what it can "do")
Santos, QEPD (the sagest of the bunch, who Barbara outed)
Karla, QEPD (incinerated)
Hec-Maru (struggling)

Lucho isn't going to like the idea that he lost Vale to a girl. That would crush his machismo image. He will probably go back to his bud and say nothing, for now. He'll find a way to get revenge without destroying his self-image. I bet he continues to spread the story that it's the chofer.

Noooo Anita that was Jardinera. I only wish I could come up with something that clever.
But thanks.

And Lunko trying to get a sliding glass door open could have and should have gotten him shot.
To follow someone out of town into the remote country and attempt to break in is above the bar. Though it would not make it right still, she is not his wife, simply a FORMER Girlfriend who had ended it with him as gracefully as he would allow her to.

Given the increasing numbers of women of all ages, shapes and sizes I see at the gun range, stunts like Lunko pulled can now increasingly get you a nice warm bullet. It is about time. You do not need one of these big handheld canons, just about anything will at least slow him/her/it down.

Kirby--Please refer to 9:00 am comment. Poetry in motion.

Is Mace legal? Pocket-sized stun guns? How about just plain talcum powder in a lipstick tube that ejects when clicked--aim for the eyes.

Stopping by to read the comments. This story is moving along nicely . I don't think that Jake will be able to go through with his plan of revenge on Lucia ,he seems to besotted with her, but I think that John is in trouble.

OT..Cold and gray here now, but we did have blue skies for awhile this afternoon. Just finished facetiming with my daughter from up north and her long tale of the storm that hit them Thursday causing many including her to have water in the basement and loss of power. They were on around the clock water watch and had to borrow a sump pump, wet dry vac, and generator. Followed by having to break up a sheet of ice on their steel horseshoe driveway.

#wintercanbescary I am currently keeping my eye on the Tuessdy forecast for snow.

Not steel...steep. Sorry

Does Barb have a butterfly tattoo on her neck since she believes she is part of the transmigration group?

VDG-W..Not that we have seen. I'm pretty sure she does not. Just an opportunist.

JudyB

"chickens coming home to roost".

That's so funny, I love it!!

Thank you, Jardinera, for such a stellar recap!

What wonderful comments my eyes do see!

Kirby, that Storm road rage thing must have triggered your snarky poetic brain cells. Truly enjoyed your take on Friday's episode.

Victoria, Barb doesn't have a butterfly, but she does think she was reincarnated and that in her previous life she was a shaman who practiced black magic.

For those of you with better translating skills than mine, could you please clarify whether or not Lucía did in fact state emphatically that she was a conspirator along with Johny to kill Leon?

This conversation between her and Johny seems to be the reason why Jacobo lost it in the "batcave". I didn't think their conversation was very clear about her role, if any, in Leon's death, but rather she only found out about Johny's plan after the fact.

I know this has been talked about previously but I'm not sure if it was settled.

So if this issue is cleared up and she didn't know about it or participate in Johny's plan, can she be redeemed?

Anon 12:01

I don't think we are being homophobic, rather the Jules and Valentina storyline is relevant to the plot.

For myself, I'm of the opinion that it is a diversion and meant only to show Jacobo what's going on with his daughter, to show tolerance, and to accept the fact that she is gay.

I have to say that I'm super impressed with Jacobo/León's IT skills. For example, untraceable emails, untraceable phones, untraceable gift delivery, breakingering, super-duper computer skills, origami figures!!!!

Victoria, I agree that Lucia’s role is not super clear. I could swear I remember way back, she was pissed at Johnny for going ahead with the KILL plan without telling her......but then more recently, it seemed she did know in advance. I have been wondering about this myself.
AMOT

Well, every storyline with Leon/Jacobos kids is to show him something he got wrong and must learn. Him learning to accept his kids how they are is a lesson he needs to learn. Maybe if he hadn't crushed Eva's dreams and made her give up what she wanted to do with her life to be happy, she wouldn't be the bitter woman she is right now.

Also, is Guilles story also a diversion? His relationship with Renata is similar to Valentinas with Juliana. Many people in society, like Eva, would look down on Guilles relationship with his secretary. Both because he was her boss and also cause of their economic differences. Like many would look down on Valentinas relationship because it's with a woman and again the economic differences. Yet, when reading comments, Guilles relationship is talked about normally and seen as having value within the story, while Valentinas is seen as something only added as a PSA. That language, along with phrases like "force fed" and "put out", as mentioned in my previous comment, comes off homophobic.

Hi, peeps. If I absentmindedly misnomered one of the characters with a black butteryfly tattoo, then have my apologies. I do try proofing my stuff, but things obviously fall through the cracks.
=======================================

Anon. Sat. Jan. 27 11:38PM: There are no "thought police" here on my page--if I can help it. What you may want to label homophobia others will just as quickly consider a healthy, socially-accepted-over-the-milennia, and thus legitimate opposition to aberrent physical behaviors like, say, sadism which abounds in these and which also receive equally disapproving comments at times from bloggeres here, or pedophelia (which, thankfully, hasn't shown up yet that I know of. And although certain social strata have their prejudices to other social strata, those are not considered physically or psychologically sick, but rather unpleasant social behaviors. And since you take issue with my comments from last week, I have taken the time to answer you.

Victoria/Anon: It probably is a valid storyline to show LCJ's disapproval of the Val/Jules pair up. You can do that tastefully maybe once or twice max, i.e., Lucho seeing his ex in media res, to get the point across. I personally don't care or want to see it in a gratuitous or constant manner. And for sure, if LCJ's butterfly starts bleeding because he complains to Cam about it, then I'll consider it a crap PDA.

Jardinera654

As far as ANON saying some of us are homophobic,she/he must be talking about themself because that absolutely does not pertain to me.

Jardinera, I don't know if I read this in one of your recaps or someone elses's. Or maybe I mis-read a character's name. It would have been a great twist, I think.
This little confusion does make me wonder if there is no other lost soul somewhere in the cast, one that will reveal itself close to the end.
Do we know why Johnny is wearing those priestly collars? Have we actually seen his neck so far ?

Thank you, Jardinera, for this excellent recap.

I don't usually comment on this TN, but Adriana's question re Johny 'wearing those priestly collars' prompts me to ask about something that has been bothering me for a long time now. How could León have not known that Johny was a creep? I don't care how much sucking up he did, in fact the more he did the more suspicious I would be.
And then León believes that young, hot Lucía really really falls for him. Maybe I'm answering my own questions now, perhaps León is just stupid.

Re the Val & Juliana story line: personally, I do like them as a couple, I think they are very sweet and sexy together. A bit of synergism there since I never thought either one individually was especially cute or interesting. And I think even LCJ would advise Valentina to go with Juliana rather than with Lucho.

andy

Adriana and Andy, re the priestly collars...the only explanation I can come up with is--
STUFFED SHIRT! the tight collars keep the bull "stuff" in :-)

In regards to the question regarding Lucia's involvement in the murder--I went back and found this in the recap of the second episode:

Later, Johnny goes to Lucia who cries that he sent Leon to be killed. She can’t believe it. They go inside and she grabs and shakes Johnny…killing Leon was not something they had agreed on. Johnny tries to tell her that she needs to try to understand...

So Johny and Lucia hadn't agreed on killing Leon (I would add "just yet"). Lucia must have been very naive to think that Johny was not planning on killing Leon or maybe they had discussed it, but hadn't agreed on how and when. Whatever the case may be, Lucia has always denied being a part of planning the murder, but Johny insists that she is just as guilty as he is; and if he goes down so will she.

Victoria, when LCJ overheard Lucia and Johny in the study, this is the key thing that he heard:

LCJ listens in disbelief as Johny continues that the evidence Montilla is gathering is going to bring them to the forefront; and Montilla will find out the she and he sent someone to kill León.

Since Lucia never denied being a part of the murder after Johny said that, LCJ believes that she was definitely in on the planning of his murder.

You make good points, Andy. I wish you had been with us since the beginning.

Adriana—Hmmm. Great speculation on the “priestly” collar. However, Luci has seen him naked. She’s seen Jake’s tattoo. If Johny had one, I think she would have mentioned the coinkydink to Jake before this. Well, maybe not, since she still hasn’t admitted to Jake that she’s actually bedding Johny. He can’t dispute her non-claim because he can’t admit he can watch her from the Bat Cave. I guess the Bat Cave is out of commission for the foreseeable future. IMHO, Johny is just trying to set a fashion statement because he doesn’t like to wear ties..

In my earlier list of Butterfly people, I forgot Guzman. No one ever got to talk to him alive. Cam only spoke to his widow about his claim that he was a different person inside.

NOTEZ BIEN: If you record AAM, check your “scheduled recordings” in the morning. Mine still shows the SOTU address for tomorrow, even though it has now been scheduled for Feb. 5. If it doesn’t say AAM, it won’t record it.

I’ll try to have the whole recap up before anyone gets up tomorrow morning.

WOW, the episode that won't die, !

"Since Lucia never denied being a part of the murder after Johny said that, LCJ believes that she was definitely in on the planning of his murder."

Then how on God's Green Earth can we believe he wants to marry her and run off somewhere to live happily ever after? Except that happily ever after for him is until Death Chick unplugs his power cord.

Adriana,

I don't think we've even seen Johny without his clerical collar on.

If this guy (Johny)/Alejandro Nones wins a premio for his acting in this role (as bad as he acted in Teresa), I'll probably never believe that the premios aren't rigged somehow, look how they consistently pass over Silvia Navarro.

Victoria and Adriana—I had the unfortunate opportunity to be reviewing some early episodes and we did see Johny without his collar. He was in Lucia’s bed and suggestively naked, but we didn’t see the back of his neck.

If premios are given for obnoxious, unctuous, ingratiating (and GRATING) characters, he just has to win it.

I agree about Silvia Navarro. I think there are some big guns behind the curtains that have some big long-lasting thing against her. She continues to deliver top performances every time.

Kirby-Jake has no illusions about love involved in his decision to ask Luci to marry him. It’s a test. It’s also part of his plan for revenge. HIS feelings for her ARE going to get in the way. Again, we have a tussle between the head and the heart.

Silvia was superb in "Montecristo, the Mexican version.

UA: Lucho will escalate things to deadly level.

Anita, thanks. Lets not forget Silvia Navarro in Mi Corazon es Tu Yo with Jorge Salinas. She was muy excellente in that one too.

Kirby

Wow her pole dancing was fantastic, she was pregnant during the later part of MCET.

In Tres Veces Ana, AB's Cirque du Soleil routine was just unbelievable. And she didn't use any doubles.

Victoria, and the other girl in the silks with AB in Tres Veces Ana, Sachi Tamashiro was just on Retro 4 Elementos and was one of the best who lasted until the end doing all that running, jumping and climbing.

I wondered about SN's upside down pole dancing stunts. I kept watching to see if they would show her face and they didn't, but that does not for sure prove it was a double.
